THE STAGING RULING THIS SHEET BUILDS — THE L13 LION SHAPE, APPLIED, WITH THE ENVELOPES ON STONE AND OPEN GROUND

THE SHAPE OF THE PROBLEM, STATED BEFORE IT IS ANSWERED, AND IT IS THE SAME SHAPE THE DIRECTOR HAS

ALREADY RULED ONCE. CH_06 fixes its combat routes by name: "All combat routes against the counterfeit

deceiver-yaka ..., the malevolent Tovil disease-demons ..., and the ascent-trial guardians"

[CH_06.md:221]. The asset anchor names this animal and puts it in the ambient layer — "the leopard and

the wet-zone fauna as ambient presences" [CH_06.md:238] — and the region page repeats it with a

constraint attached: "The leopard, the sloth bear and the langur ride as ambient presences with the

same discipline the Ch-2/Ch-3 fauna pass established: real animals, real behaviour, never

Hollywood-monstered, and no encounter that requires a kill" [sri_lanka.md:286-288]. Against that,

RULING_7 rules the row IN with a fight-and-tame grammar. THE LANDED SHAPE FOR EXACTLY THIS COLLISION IS

THE LION FORK [DIRECTOR_RULING_L13.json RULING_3], and this sheet APPLIES it rather than

distinguishing it, because the two situations are the same situation: a spine's own "ambient" vocabulary

against a ruled fight-and-tame grammar on a big cat. AND THE APPLICATION IS BY RATIFIED CLASS EXTENSION

RATHER THAN BY A SILENT ONE, WHICH IS STATED HERE BECAUSE THE L13 TEXT IS CHAPTER-SCOPED BY ITS OWN

WORDS — "ENGAGEMENT IS PLAYER-OPENED at CH_10" [DIRECTOR_RULING_L13.json RULING_3]. The director has

since RATIFIED that grammar AS A CLASS (ratified DIRECTOR_RULING_L15): apex ambush predators on

protected chapters never initiate on an unengaged player, engagement opens only by the player's own act

— an attack, or entry into a seeable contest envelope — and once opened the full grammar arms

unsoftened. This sheet's CH_06 application rests on that ratification.

THE RULING, BUILT:

• THE LEOPARD NEVER INITIATES ON AN UNENGAGED PLAYER. Outside engagement it holds exactly the

ambient state the spine declares: it is present, it is seen, it is walked past. tank_cascade_dry_zone

carries ambient_threat low [CH_06.md:92], and nothing below contradicts it.

• ENGAGEMENT OPENS ONLY BY THE PLAYER'S OWN ACT, and there are exactly three openers, all of them

seeable before they are crossed. (1) AN ATTACK. (2) THE ROCK'S OWN FOOTPRINT — the outcrop the animal

is lying on and the shaded ground at its base, out to a body-length from the stone. The envelope

announces itself with this sheet's primary axis: a whole cat lying complete on a skyline is the most

visible envelope marker in the arc's felid set, and that visibility is the fairness argument.

(3) THE OPEN LARDER — the carcass and the ground within sight of it. THE ISLAND APEX DOES NOT HOIST,

so its food lies uncovered on the floor and the player sees the food from further away than they see

the cat.

• **AT NIGHT THE ENVELOPE MOVES TO THE USED PATH, AND THE PATH IS AN ATTESTED THING RATHER THAN AN

INVENTED ONE.** The region's own seventeenth-century record carries the sentence the whole night layer

stands on: "a charged crossbow set on the path a leopard used after it had killed a cow"

[sri_lanka.md:271-272, SRC_00237 p. 27]. A LEOPARD USES A PATH, AND THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE THERE KNOW

WHICH ONE — that is documented, it is the trigger geometry, and it is also the community's own answer.

The night envelope is that path where it crosses the tank-country grazing margin, and it is entered

only by a player who chooses to stand it. **ITS STAGING IS THE SAME GROUND AS EVERYTHING ELSE ON THIS

SHEET AND IS STATED SO IT CANNOT DRIFT ONTO THE WARD:** the margin is tank_cascade_dry_zone's own

stock-and-paddy margin — terrain agricultural, protected FALSE [CH_06.md:92; sri_lanka.md:58] —

and it is NEVER village_edura_ward, which is protected true [CH_06.md:98-99] and is the zone the

list below refuses in full. THE HONEST RESIDUE, NAMED HERE AND BOARDED IN § 9 RATHER THAN PAPERED

OVER: the settlement-edge zone a stock-line envelope actually wants has no row in this chapter's EG

set, which is the ask DIRECTOR_RULING_L14.json RULING_7 already carries — "EG row ask: the

settlement-edge/plantation-margin zone the leopard's stock-line envelope needs" — raised there from

the CH_07 sheet and reproducing here. Until it lands, the margin is staged on the dry-zone side of

the line and the village is a fact the record attests rather than a place this sheet enters.

• THE PROTECTED GROUND CARRIES NO ENVELOPE, AND THE LIST IS EXHAUSTIVE RATHER THAN IMPLIED. No

envelope, tell, state or sign on this sheet is placed at anuradhapura_sacred_city (protected true

[CH_06.md:90]), at vedda_forest (protected true, "a protected living community, never a combat zone"

[CH_06.md:94-95]), at village_edura_ward (protected true, where HL_0004 routes the one real fight

through the tradition's own condemned yaka and nothing else [CH_06.md:98-99]), or at adams_peak

(protected true, "the ascent-trial is environmental, never routed at the pilgrims" [CH_06.md:102-103]).

AND BOTH OF THE CHAPTER'S REMAINING UNPROTECTED SITES ARE ALSO REFUSED, EACH ON A GROUND THAT IS THIS

CHAPTER'S OWN. naga_water_shrine is protected FALSE [CH_06.md:96] and is refused anyway: it is the

discernment venue, and putting a real animal into the one place whose entire job is telling a true

thing from a false thing wearing a coat would degrade the boss puzzle with noise. AND

sigiriya_rock_fortress IS REFUSED ON THE SAME PRINCIPLE PLUS A HARDER ONE, WHICH THIS LANE VERIFIED

ON THE ROWS RATHER THAN ASSUMED FROM THE protected CELL. It is protected FALSE [CH_06.md:100], but

it is not free ground: it HOSTS A SUB-BOSS — BE_0006_S2, the Sigiriya Mirror-Wall Trial, a

self-recognition perception guardian at CH06_B07 [CH_06.md:101, :111, :146-148] — and every one of the

five environment-grammar rows the Zone Catalog seats there carries enemy_usable FALSE under

protected_care_ref HL_0007: EG_0068 the granite ascent face, EG_0069 the sheltered fresco

gallery pocket, EG_0070 the plastered mirror wall and graffiti gallery, EG_0071 the lion-gate

threshold and summit terrace, and EG_0072 the boulder-and-water garden approach

[sri_lanka.md:62; T0_Environment_Grammar_Registry @ EG_0068-EG_0072]. A rock the registry has

closed to every enemy is a rock this animal cannot be seated on, and staging a real predator across a

perception trial's ground is the shrine objection a second time. THE GROUND THIS SHEET STAGES ON IS

THEREFORE tank_cascade_dry_zone ALONE (protected FALSE [CH_06.md:92]), WHICH IS THE CHAPTER'S ONE

UNPROTECTED NON-BOSS ZONE — and § 9 boards the consequence rather than papering it: the wild dry-zone

rock this sheet's primary mark stands on has no environment-grammar row of its own yet, and the

chapter's only granite row is the protected monument.

• ONCE OPENED, EVERYTHING IN § 6 ARMS AT FULL WEIGHT AND NOTHING IN IT IS SOFTENED — the flat run,

the anchored grab, the descent, the four-channel escalation and the kill. RULING_7's fight-and-tame

grammar gets everything it ruled in. What it does not get is a schedule.

THE STRONGEST OBJECTION TO THIS RULING — THAT AN ISLAND APEX WITH NOTHING ABOVE IT SHOULD NOT NEED

PERMISSION TO INITIATE — IS ANSWERED IN FULL AT § 7's SECOND DEVIL'S-ADVOCATE PASS AND IS NOT ARGUED

TWICE. The one-line answer, so the ruling reads complete where it is made: the apex cell is spent by

WIDENING the envelopes rather than by removing initiative — a whole rock, a whole open kill and a path

the record attests is reused, three envelopes seeable from the far side of a dry-zone bund — and the

escalation hands the initiative back inside engagement by taking the player's daylight (§ 6). The

attested cattle-killing is BUILT rather than cut, as the night envelope at the grazing margin. What the

ruling refuses is an unearned pounce in a low-threat traversal zone [CH_06.md:92] in a chapter whose

combat-routing sentence names three other things [CH_06.md:221] and whose region page says no encounter

with this animal requires a kill [sri_lanka.md:288].

2. base_species

• binomial *Panthera pardus kotiya* [@ CR_0029 :: scientific_name] · archetype QUADRUPED · sub-plan

carnivoran_digitigrade

• DERIVED FROM THE ANATOMY REFERENCE TABLE, not declared inline, per the doctrine's amended § 2.1:

build/3d/schema/anatomy_reference/QUADRUPED.json § sub_plans.carnivoran_digitigrade. BUCKET

COVERAGE IS MACHINE-RECORDED RATHER THAN ASSERTED: creature_archetype_map.json maps CR_0029 to

QUADRUPED, matched_on "species_class='mammal' + scientific_name~'panthera'" — a taxon match and not

a substring accident, which this chapter's fauna block cannot take for granted (§ 9). The sub-plan's

declared census rows are "CR_0057 Cheetah (see census_defects), generic canid/felid"

[ANATOMY_REFERENCE.md:42], so this row is covered as a felid rather than by census id.

• THE SUBSTITUTION IS DECLARED ON THE FACE, TWICE, BECAUSE BOTH HALVES OF IT ARE BOARDED CAVEATS. The

reference taxon is *Canis lupus familiaris*, "the only quadruped with a full published goniometric

set; felids are morphologically close and the ranges transfer as BOUNDS, not as values"

[ANATOMY_REFERENCE.md:40], and the table's own not-known list carries the reason: "QUADRUPED /

felid-specific goniometric ranges: no published felid equivalent of Jaeger et al. 2002. The canine

ranges are carried as BOUNDS with the substitution declared, not as felid values"

[ANATOMY_REFERENCE.md:960]. THE SHARPEST INSTANCE, NAMED BECAUSE THIS SHEET LEANS ON THE FORELIMB:

the elbow's pronation-supination range of ±25 carries the note "a dog can pronate/supinate a little;

a horse cannot at all" [ANATOMY_REFERENCE.md:81-82] — that is a CANID-DERIVED BOUND on a felid

forearm and it is the boarded caveat this lane was handed. EVERY DEGREE BELOW IS A BOUND ON A

LEOPARD, NEVER A MEASUREMENT OF ONE, and the anchored grab in § 6 is built well inside it for exactly

that reason.

• posture grade: erect / parasagittal — the limbs are carried UNDER the body and swung in the sagittal

plane [§ posture_grade, § one_line]

• segments: 4 limbs; 5 digits per forefoot and 4 per hindfoot; 27 presacral vertebrae; 20-23 caudal

vertebrae, taxon-variable; THE CLAVICLE IS VESTIGIAL OR ABSENT and the forelimb hangs in a MUSCULAR

SLING (synsarcosis), so the scapula translates on the ribcage and there is no bony shoulder joint to

the trunk at all [§ segments]. On THIS animal the sling is what lets a body that lives on hot stone

come down a rock face repeatedly without a shoulder joint taking the shock, which is the one thing

the mainland cat spends on a trunk and this one spends on granite.

• skeleton chain: root → pelvis → spine_lumbar → spine_thoracic → spine_cervical → head → jaw; the

mirrored scapula → humerus → radioulna → carpus → metacarpus → digits and femur → tibia → tarsus →

metatarsus → toes chains; tail_00 off the pelvis. Every _L bone carries an identical _R sibling

[§ skeleton, § mirror_rule]

• declared ROM, every range the table's: scapulothoracic synsarcosis protraction-retraction ±25 and

rotation ±15 as excursion about neutral, with the table's own warning that a rig parenting the

humerus straight to the spine loses the whole first third of the stride [DYCE2010, SISSON1975];

glenohumeral flexion-extension 57-165, abduction-adduction ±20, axial rotation ±15 [JAEGER2002,

MILLERS2013]; elbow 36-165 with pronation-supination ±25 and never a free axis; carpus 32-196,

hyperextending past straight as the shock absorber — WHICH IS THE JOINT THE ROCK DESCENT IS SPENT

THROUGH; hip 50-162, abduction-adduction ±30, axial rotation ±20; stifle 42-162 with ±10 of rotation

only near flexion; hock 39-165 AND IT NEVER HYPEREXTENDS; intervertebral thoracolumbar per joint at

sagittal ±8, lateral ±6, axial ±4 — and the table's governing rule, THE MAMMALIAN SPINE BENDS

SAGITTALLY AND NOT LATERALLY.

• THE FLAT RUN IS BUILT INSIDE THOSE BOUNDS AND CLAIMS NOTHING OUTSIDE THEM, stated because a critic

will check it. The commit is the ROTARY gallop the table names as the felid gallop, LH-RH-RF-LF, with

the back's sagittal flexion-extension driving the second suspension phase inside the per-joint ±8, so

two airborne moments per cycle rather than one [§ gait.asymmetrical]. No axis is exceeded and no

joint is invented: this animal runs on the same envelope the mainland one climbs on, spent along the

ground instead of up it.

• gait, all four published modes: the WALK is a LATERAL-sequence footfall LH-LF-RH-RF at duty factor

0.55-0.8 with fore-lag 10-30 percent; the TROT is diagonal couplets at 0.35-0.5 and fore-lag 45-55;

the PACE is lateral couplets at fore-lag 0-10; the run is the ROTARY gallop [§ gait]. The solver

takes duty factor plus per-foot phase offsets with the spine driven FK off the gait clock and the

feet IK to ground [§ gait.solver_note].

• rig conformance: minimum 34 deform bones; spine chain 5 to 24; two forelimb and two hindlimb chains

of at least 4 bones each; bilateral symmetry required [§ rig_conformance]

• WHERE THE TABLE IS SILENT, SAID AFFIRMATIVELY — inline and labelled AUTHORIAL_ANATOMY, because the

bucket publishes bone and joint only, AND ADOPTED FROM THE LANDED FELID SHEETS AT THEIR OWN FIGURES

RATHER THAN RE-MINTED, so the arc's cats carry one number each. THE CARVE-OUT THIS DECLARATION RIDES

IS NOT YET RATIFIED AND THE OPEN ASK IS NAMED HERE RATHER THAN LEANED ON SILENTLY:

DIRECTOR_RULING_L14.json RULING_7 boards "the inline-AUTHORIAL_ANATOMY-on-a-bucket-covered-row

carve-out (bucket silent on the feature) needs ratifying into doctrine 2.1 — a sheet may not amend

doctrine from below", and the two figures below are an instance of exactly that ask.

The jaw gape at about 65 degrees on

the table's jaw deform bone, which carries no range [CR_0024_sumatran_tiger.md:73-75, adopted at

CR_0038_indian_leopard.md:200-206]. CLAW PROTRACTION as a joint state rather than a texture swap, at

ABOUT 40 DEGREES of rotation at the distal phalanx from fully sheathed to fully protracted

[CR_0038_indian_leopard.md:203-206] — and on THIS animal that excursion is spent on two jobs the

mainland cat does not have: traction on dry granite, and the anchor in § 6's grab. The table's

standing caveat carries: "goniometry measures the passive envelope. What a live animal reaches under

its own power is smaller, by an amount the sources do not separate"

[ANATOMY_REFERENCE.md:964].

• mass, proportion and stance (AUTHORIAL_ANATOMY, and honest about its ground — height_m and

length_axis are EMPTY on this row and § 9 boards them): a long low body on comparatively short

limbs, a head large for the frame, a heavy forequarter and neck, and A TAIL RUNNING ROUGHLY

TWO-THIRDS TO THREE-QUARTERS OF THE HEAD-BODY LENGTH. THAT FIGURE IS ADOPTED FROM THE LANDED CH_07

PAIR AND IS NOT THIS SHEET'S TO RE-OPEN [CR_0038_indian_leopard.md:213-215, :302-314], AND THE

SUPERSEDED READ IS NAMED SO IT IS NOT RE-INHERITED BY ACCIDENT: CR_0056_african_lion.md:219-220's

"a leopard's tail is as long as its body" is a known overstatement carrying a landed boarded debt

[DIRECTOR_RULING_L14.json RULING_7], the correction is already boarded upstream at

CR_0038_indian_leopard.md:876-882, and this sheet neither inherits the overstatement nor boards it a

third time. NO BODY-SIZE CLAIM SEPARATES THIS ANIMAL FROM THE CH_07 LEOPARD, and § 4 says why: canon

puts the difference between them in the trophic cell, not in the appearance.

• resting silhouette, AND IT IS THE ONE THE WHOLE SHEET IS BUILT ON: ON STONE, lying full-length along

the top of an outcrop with the forelimbs extended forward on the rock, the head carried AT the

shoulder line [the landed leopard carriage, CR_0038_indian_leopard.md:218-221], and THE TAIL LYING

ALONG THE STONE as a horizontal continuation of the body line with its last third clear of the

surface [the landed felid carriage rule, CR_0024_sumatran_tiger.md:84-85]. The result is ONE LONG

UNBROKEN BAR. On the ground it is the ordinary long low horizontal of its species.

3. lore_source

• NO LIVING-TRADITION CLAIM ATTACHES TO THIS ROW, AFFIRMATIVELY DECLARED AND SEARCHED.

folklore_behavior_substrate, folklore_attribution_source, thread_anchor and

cultural_depiction_required are ALL EMPTY. cultural_significance is populated and is an ECOLOGICAL

value rather than a cultural one — "endemic; island apex (no tiger in Sri Lanka)" — which is the

single most load-bearing cell on the row and is the design core of this sheet.

• THE CANON THAT SETS THIS ANIMAL'S WHOLE DESIGN, QUOTED FROM ITS HOME AND VERIFIED RATHER THAN

ASSUMED. T3_Creatures_Tameable § 5 Ch 06 lists it under the heading "Apex and DANGEROUS —" at :343

and the entry at :345 reads: "Sri Lankan leopard (*Panthera pardus kotiya*) — endemic subspecies.

Apex predator (no tiger population in Sri Lanka per regional biogeography)." The roster row agrees in

two cells (trophic_role apex; the cultural_significance line above) and the row's own source_ref

"§5 Ch 06" resolves to exactly that block. THREE CANON SURFACES, ONE READING, AND THE READING IS THE

SHEET: this is the only large cat on the island, and every design consequence below is that fact

spent.

• THE REGION'S OWN ATTESTED LEOPARD MATERIAL IS ONE SENTENCE LONG AND IT IS WORTH MORE THAN A PAGE OF

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE. Among the hunting technology the seventeenth-century record carries — "hunting-arrow

blades at least a foot to a foot and a half long ...; sharp poles set against the gaps where deer break

over the hedges into the corn grounds so the animal impales itself in the leap" — sits this:

"a charged crossbow set on the path a leopard used after it had killed a cow"

[sri_lanka.md:270-272, SRC_00237 p. 27]. THREE FACTS IN ONE CLAUSE, and this sheet builds all three:

the animal takes cattle; it USES A PATH and reuses it; and the people who live beside it read that

path and answer it themselves. Nothing in § 1's night envelope, § 4's sign ladder or § 6's part

economy is invented — they are that sentence built out.

• THE PREY BASE IS ROWED AND ATTESTED. The Vedda hunting record names the tracked game — "Sambar and

spotted deer are the tracked game" [sri_lanka.md:265-266] — and both are live roster rows in this

chapter (@ CR_0033 Sri Lankan spotted deer, @ CR_0034 Sri Lankan sambar), as is the purple-faced

langur (@ CR_0032). The cat's food in this chapter is canon's own list and this sheet adds nothing

to it.

• THE PLACE'S OWN GEOMETRY GIVES THE PRIMARY AXIS ITS GROUND, AND IT IS CITED RATHER THAN IMAGINED.

Entering the Vedda country, "a sudden rise in the ground gives the first view of it through a V-shaped

frame of hills, and ... the Mahaweliganga is soon hidden in a great sea of forest-clad lowland with

hills standing out of it like ROCKY ISLANDS" [sri_lanka.md:150-152, SRC_00510 p. 28], and the

chapter's own headline landform is "a granite inselberg standing about 180 m out of that plain"

[sri_lanka.md:143-144]. An island whose lowland is punctuated by bare rock is an island that hands

its apex predator a skyline, and § 4's mark is that landform read as a body's habit.

• THE ZONE SPLIT IS THE REGION'S OWN FIRST PRINCIPLE AND IT IS WHERE THE STATE LADDER COMES FROM: "its

whole design logic is the split between a wet zone and a dry zone. The dry zone makes up the majority

of the island's landmass, takes a mean annual rainfall between about 1,001 and 1,700 mm, and carries

large expanses of shrub and grassland with monsoon scrub jungle and arid-zone forest ...; the wet-zone

and intermediate rainforests hold the south-west and the central highland" [sri_lanka.md:125-131,

SRC_00281 p. 2].

• CITED AS A GAP AND NOT FILLED, AND IT GOVERNS EVERY BEHAVIOURAL SENTENCE ON THIS SHEET. The region

page's fauna section carries a capture record, a hunting record, a crocodile distribution and the one

leopard clause above, and it carries NO ethology for this species — no territory size, no activity

budget, no hunting method, no population claim. The page's own positive-controlled absence discipline

is the model this sheet works to [sri_lanka.md:1322-1338], and the acquisition is boarded in § 9.

Every ethological line in § 4 and § 6 that is not tied to sri_lanka.md:271-272 or to

T3_Creatures_Tameable is marked AUTHORIAL_ANATOMY: general zoological knowledge carried as DESIGN,

never presented as a claim of any source this region holds.

• THE POSITIVE CONTROL FOR THE CITATION TEST, NAMED, AND IT IS THE REGION PAGE'S OWN. The page proves

its search can match by naming the terms that DO return under the same normalized whitespace-stripped

scan — "Kande Yaka, kirikoraha, dugganawa, aude, waruge, Wanniyalaeto and Deshiya all return"

[sri_lanka.md:1322-1325] — beside the zeros it records for bisokotuwa, ellanga, sandakada pahana,

kattadiya, tovil, kastane, Nittaewo and tendi-as-a-Vedda-term [sri_lanka.md:1340-1355]. The

machinery matches on this region; it simply reaches no leopard beyond the one crossbow clause.

• THE ONE PLACE A LEOPARD CLAIM COULD HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED, AND IT IS AFFIRMATIVELY REFUSED. The

page records that the only animal charms the ethnographers found were "obviously of Sinhalese origin

... charms addressing a godling of fighting believed to inspire the buffalo to attack men, and one

against a dangerous animal named in the charm's own words" [sri_lanka.md:606-611, SRC_00510 pp. 269,

272]. THE PAGE DELIBERATELY DOES NOT NAME THAT ANIMAL. Reading "leopard" into it would be exactly the

invention the corpus's standing naming rule forbids — "where a term is unattested in the tradition's

own record, the page carries the thing descriptively until a source attests the term, and it never

mints a local word to fill a gap" [sri_lanka.md:331-333] — so this sheet attaches no charm, no omen

and no local name to this animal, and records the gap as a finding rather than filling it.

• NOT ASSERTED, AND THE REFUSAL IS THIS CHAPTER'S MOST IMPORTANT ONE: no yaka register, no spirit

register, no ancestral register and no Naga association attaches to this animal anywhere on this

sheet. § 7 states why in care terms; the short version is that a chapter whose entire lesson is

keeping the malevolent Tovil yakku, the revered Vedda Nae Yaku and the genuine Naga strictly apart

[sri_lanka.md:651-655] cannot afford a real animal with a spirit's coat on it.

4. elevation

• register: REAL_FAUNA (TRUE_TO_LIFE), doctrine § 3D. ELEVATION IS REFUSED IN ONE LINE, READ OFF

THIS ROW'S OWN FOLKLORE COLUMNS: folklore_behavior_substrate and folklore_attribution_source are

EMPTY, the row stages no supernatural claim, and CH_06 reserves stylization by name —

"realistic-ethnographic for the Sinhalese, Vedda, and Tamil communities, monuments, and tank-country;

mythologically-stylized only for the deceiver-yaka and the Tovil demons and their masks"

[CH_06.md:240] — a reservation this row's own mesh_tags.style cell obeys.

• AND THE REFUSAL IS STRONGER HERE THAN ON ANY LANDED FAUNA ROW IN THE ARC, WHICH IS WHY IT IS ARGUED

RATHER THAN ASSERTED. The Komodo defect inverted is the standing form of the argument: a stylized

animal standing beside the one thing a chapter reserved styling for. THIS CHAPTER RAISES IT TO A

DESIGN CONTRADICTION. Ch 6's whole subject is a true thing wearing a false coat and the cost of

reading it wrong — "to strike the counterfeit without certainty is to wound the real" [CH_06.md:29] —

and its boss win condition is perceive-then-break [CH_06.md:249]. AN ANIMAL THAT IS NOT WHAT IT

APPEARS IS, IN THIS CHAPTER SPECIFICALLY, AN ATTACK ON THE CHAPTER'S OWN LESSON: it teaches the player

that ordinary bodies can also be lying, at the exact moment the design needs the ordinary world to be

reliable so that the one false thing stands out. The mundane leopard is not a concession here. It is

load-bearing.

• THE REPLICA TEST DISCHARGES BY CONTRACT PLUS LADDER, per § 3D, and both are stated below.
• THE BOLDNESS IS SPENT ON THE FIGHT, THE MARGIN AND THE APEX'S OWN NERVE, NOT ON THE ANATOMY. § 7

records that pass in both directions.

THE LEGIBILITY CONTRACT — CH_06's SILHOUETTE DISCRIMINATION, AUTHORED ONCE AND CARRIED ALONE, AND THE

SHARING LAW'S NON-FIRING IS DECLARED RATHER THAN LEFT AS A SILENCE. Doctrine § 3D asks that the contract

be "stated identically on every sheet in the set". THE SET HERE HAS ONE MEMBER. CH_06's ruled demand

table carries seven rows: five folklore beings (CR_0172-CR_0176) and two fauna rows (CR_0029 and CR_0030

the Indian cobra) [CREATURE_DEMAND_RULED_STATE_L11.json @ CH_06]. A limbless body and a quadruped

share no confusable silhouette at any distance, so no byte-identical block is owed between this sheet

and CR_0030's, and this contract is authored once here. It still covers every confusable body in the

chapter, including the rowed fauna the demand table does not reach, because a player does not know which

rows are in a demand table.

THE GOVERNING LAW OF THIS CONTRACT, CARRIED FORWARD FROM THE LANDED FELID SET RATHER THAN RE-DERIVED:

THE FINDER IS SCALE-FREE AND THE CONFIRM IS NOT. A player cannot judge an animal's size without judging

its distance first, so every finder below is a RATIO or a TOPOLOGY measured against the animal's own

body, and every colour or pattern read is a CONFIRM that arrives second. The stockings rule binds — a

confirming mark confirms, it never finds [CR_0143_gaur.md:118-131, adopted at

CR_0056_african_lion.md:234-235].

• THE TAIL LINE, the class finder against everything in this chapter that is not a cat, and the only

read that survives black fill, night, rain and a melanistic coat. A LEOPARD'S TAIL IS ROUGHLY

TWO-THIRDS TO THREE-QUARTERS OF ITS HEAD-BODY LENGTH, thin along its whole run, with the last third

held clear of the ground [CR_0038_indian_leopard.md:302-314; the carriage from

CR_0024_sumatran_tiger.md:84-85]. IT DOES NOT END IN A BLOB — the terminal tuft is the lion's alone

and no lion is on this island [CR_0056_african_lion.md:218-223]. In black fill the cat is the only

body in this chapter that trails a long thin line at or below its own back line.

• THE BELLY-TO-LEG BAND, the carnivore-against-everything-else read, taken before any finder inside the

cat set, and adopted whole as the landed class fact [CR_0056_african_lion.md:253-258]. The chapter's

other large bodies — @ CR_0036 the Sri Lankan elephant above all, and @ CR_0033 and @ CR_0034

the two deer — stand TALL on column-straight legs and read as MASS ABOVE DAYLIGHT, a deep band of open

ground running the animal's whole length. This body is the inverse: a LOW HORIZONTAL on flexed

digitigrade limbs with almost no daylight under the belly.

• **THE OTHER SPOTTED ANIMAL, WHICH IS THIS CHAPTER'S OWN DISCRIMINATION AND EXISTS IN NO OTHER FELID

CHAPTER IN THE ARC.** @ CR_0033 the Sri Lankan spotted deer (*Axis axis ceylonensis*) puts a second

spotted body in the same dry-zone scrub, and at colour-only range a spotted flank is a spotted flank.

THREE READS SEPARATE THEM AND EACH SURVIVES BLACK FILL. (1) THE BELLY-TO-LEG BAND above: the deer is

mass above daylight, the cat is a low horizontal. (2) THE HEAD CARRIAGE AGAINST THE BACK LINE: the

deer's neck rises OUT of its topline to carry the head above the shoulder, and the cat's head is

carried AT the shoulder line so its topline runs unbroken from ears to tail root. (3) THE TAIL LINE:

the deer's is short and carried up or flicking, the cat's is a long thin trailing line. THE CONFIRM,

IN LIGHT AND ONLY IN LIGHT: the deer's spots are pale on a rufous ground and run in longitudinal rows

along the flank; the cat's are dark closed rosettes on a tawny ground with no row structure. THE

RULE: pattern never finds this pair. Shape does, and the shape is a leg question before it is a coat

question.

• @ CR_0031 THE SRI LANKAN SLOTH BEAR, the nearest quadruped confusable and a genuine one at dusk in

scrub. TWO READS. (1) THE TAIL LINE IS PRESENT OR IT IS NOT — the bear's is effectively absent, and a

long low dark quadruped with no trailing line is not this animal. (2) THE TOPLINE: the bear's back is

HIGHEST AT THE SHOULDER, a shaggy hump falling away toward the hip, over a plantigrade stance that

puts the whole hind foot on the ground; the cat's back is level from shoulder to hip over flexed

digitigrade limbs. In profile the bear is a hump with a long pale muzzle hanging off the front of it,

and the cat is a bar.

• @ CR_0032 THE PURPLE-FACED LANGUR, discriminated on the landed primate read rather than a new one:

a langur's tail is thin and carried in a HOOK ABOVE the line of its back, which no cat does

[CR_0038_indian_leopard.md:352-354]. Add the class facts: the langur is a GROUP that is MOVING through

a crown, and the cat is ONE body that is STILL. NOTE WHAT THIS CHAPTER DOES NOT HAVE, said

affirmatively so a critic does not read a gap: CH_06 rows NO macaque, so the CH_07 bough case's

hardest branch — a *Macaca radiata* whose tail also hangs down — has no instance here, and the

langur's hooked tail closes the primate case on its own.

• @ CR_0030 THE INDIAN COBRA is limbless and shares no read with a quadruped at any distance; the

discrimination is a class fact and CR_0030's own sheet owns its side of it.

• **THE STRIPE FRAME, WHICH IS THIS CHAPTER'S BEST JOKE AND ITS MOST IMPORTANT SAFETY READ: THE ONLY

TIGER IN SRI LANKA IS YOURS.** Canon supplies both halves. The island has no tiger population

[T3_Creatures_Tameable:345], and Khan the Sumatran Tiger (G1) walks into this chapter bonded and

carried [CH_06.md:21, :256]. SO THE RULE IS FREE AND ABSOLUTE HERE IN A WAY IT IS NOWHERE ELSE IN THE

ARC: ON THIS ISLAND, BARS MEAN FRIEND AND ROSETTES MEAN WILD. Nothing else in the chapter can make a

striped silhouette. The motion confirm rides along and is the landed one: the tiger that has to square

its whole forequarter to look at you is Khan, because the nape shelf removes roughly a third of his

available lateral neck excursion [CR_0024_sumatran_tiger.md:163-169], and Khan travels on the player's

line while nothing wild does. **AND THE TEACHING ORDER IS THE POINT, WHICH IS WHY THIS CLAUSE IS IN

THE CONTRACT AND NOT IN A FOOTNOTE:** the player learns "stripes are safe" on an island where it is

true, and one chapter later CR_0037 the wild Bengal tiger takes it away

[CR_0038_indian_leopard.md:328-340]. Ch 6 gives the rule; Ch 7 charges for it.

• THE STYLE REGISTER, AND IN THIS CHAPTER IT IS LOAD-BEARING FAR BEYOND LEGIBILITY. CH_06.md:240

reserves mythologically-stylized to the deceiver-yaka and the Tovil demons and their masks, and the

registry backs the read with a machine-checkable pair of columns: every folklore row in this chapter

carries species_class folklore AND mesh_tags.style mythologically-stylized — CR_0172 the False

Naga, CR_0173 the Tovil yakku, CR_0174 the Naga of Sri Lanka, CR_0175 the Vedda Nae Yaku, CR_0176

Kande Yaka and Bilindi Yaka [Sheet1.csv:173-177] — while every fauna row including this one carries

a real species_class and realistic-ethnographic. THE RULE: IF THE THING IN THE DARK READS STYLIZED,

IT IS NOT AN ANIMAL, AND IF IT READS LIKE AN ANIMAL, IT IS ONE. This is the same rule the landed CH_07

pair carries [CR_0038_indian_leopard.md:374-382], and here it is doing the chapter's actual work: the

protagonist's whole arc in Ch 6 is learning to tell true from false at a glance, and a silhouette

grammar in which the real fauna and the spirit register are separable at distance is that lesson

built into the art direction rather than said out loud. A leopard a player cannot distinguish from a

yaka at sixty pixels would break BE_0006 before the boss opened. § 9 boards the one residue: the

spine's reservation sentence enumerates the MALEVOLENT register only, while the registry also styles

the three SACRED rows, and those rows are other lanes' subjects.

• @ CR_0035 THE NITTAEWO IS THE ONE BODY IN THIS CHAPTER THIS CONTRACT CANNOT COVER, AND THE REFUSAL

IS THE CORRECT OUTPUT RATHER THAN A HOLE. The region page asserts NO detail about them — "no

description, no habitat, no encounter, no ending" — because the only corpus material is a Western

cryptozoological work outside the region's substrate, and "a construct assembled by outsiders must

never be credited back to an Indigenous tradition as though it came from there"

[sri_lanka.md:290-300]; DIRECTOR_RULING_L11 RULING_6 exempts the row on exactly that ground. A

silhouette discrimination requires a silhouette, and inventing one in order to discriminate against it

would fabricate the very description canon is holding open for the Vedda's own voice. THIS CONTRACT

THEREFORE DOES NOT DISCRIMINATE AGAINST CR_0035, AND SAYS SO. The discrimination is owed the moment

the acquisition lands.

• THE ONE POSE THAT COLLAPSES THE SET, named so the animation lane can protect it: this cat lying flat

in dry scrub with the head down and the tail still has no finder in frame at all. THE DESIGN RULE is

the landed one and is carried rather than re-invented — the tail tip is ALWAYS the last thing to go

still, on a slow irregular beat, so one ratio read stays alive in every idle the animal has

[CR_0056_african_lion.md:241-244; CR_0038_indian_leopard.md:383-387].

THE CROSS-CHAPTER FELID DISCRIMINATION — THIS SHEET'S OWN SECTION, BECAUSE CONTRACTS ARE PER-CHAPTER

SETS AND THIS ANIMAL'S HARDEST CONFUSABLE IS NOT IN ITS CHAPTER AT ALL. Three cats stand in three

chapters and a player meets them in this order: CR_0028 the Sunda clouded leopard at Ch 5, CR_0029 here

at Ch 6, CR_0038 the Indian leopard at Ch 7.

• **CR_0029 AGAINST CR_0038, THE SAME SPECIES ONE CHAPTER APART, AND THE DISCRIMINATION IS RULED BY THE

LANDED SHEET RATHER THAN PROPOSED BY THIS ONE.** First-landed-governs, and the landed text is adopted

in full: "the discrimination is a HABIT rather than a body, because canon puts the difference in the

trophic cell rather than in the appearance. CR_0029 is trophic_role apex ... CR_0038 is

trophic_role mid-level and shares its range with CR_0037. So on the island the big spotted cat is

the only big cat and it keeps its kill where it fell; on this shore the same spotted cat is the SECOND

cat and it takes its kill UP a tree, away from the first one. THE RULE ...: in Ch 6 you found the

spotted cat's kill on the ground, and in Ch 7 you find it over your head"

[CR_0038_indian_leopard.md:341-349]. THIS SHEET AUTHORS NO BODY FINDER BETWEEN THE TWO ANIMALS, and

the refusal is deliberate: no size claim, no coat claim, no proportion claim separates them, because

canon carries none and height_m and length_axis are empty on both rows (§ 9).

• THE CLAIM WAS VERIFIED BEFORE IT WAS BUILT ON, AND THE VERIFICATION IS STATED BECAUSE THE LANE WAS

TOLD NOT TO ASSUME IT. The no-tiger premise resolves on three canon surfaces (§ 3). THE HOIST

CONSEQUENCE IS DESIGN RATHER THAN ZOOLOGY AND IS LABELLED AS SUCH: the region's corpus carries no

ethology for this species at all, so "does not need to hoist" is AUTHORIAL_ANATOMY reasoning from the

cited absence of a competitor, landed first at CR_0038 and adopted here — not a claim that any source

in this corpus records the behaviour. The honest statement is the one this sheet builds: the island

animal has NO REASON to take its food up, so as a design rule it does not, and its larder is

therefore on the player's level. Where the mainland cat's advantage is that its food is unreachable,

this one's advantage is that it never needed the tree — and § 6 turns that into the only felid part

economy in the arc the player can walk up to.

• **THE CROSS-CREATURE LESSON THIS PAIR TEACHES, NAMED EXPLICITLY PER DOCTRINE PART FOUR: ONE SHAPE,

ONE ANSWER, AND THE INFORMATION INVERTED.** A carcass means the same thing on both sheets — the line

is closed, take another one — but it tells the player opposite things about the world. FOOD ON THE

GROUND MEANS THE ONLY CAT IS HERE. FOOD IN A FORK MEANS THERE IS A BIGGER CAT SOMEWHERE. The ANSWER

does not change between the two creatures, which is deliberate: this sheet does not hand a landed

shape a contradicting answer, because an inverted cross-creature answer is the defect a director has

already ruled BLOCKING once [DIRECTOR_RULING_L13.json RULING_2, the CR_0065 finding]. What changes

is the ALTITUDE the player must search and the fact the search teaches, and a player who learns to

scan rock tops at Ch 6 and keeps scanning rock tops at Ch 7 walks under the second cat.

• CR_0029 AGAINST CR_0028, and the three cats resolve into a single memorable rule. The clouded

leopard's defining pose is INVERTED UNDER a bough, hanging on rotated hind feet with the tail as a

second longer line [CR_0028_sunda_clouded_leopard.md:86-87, :124-127]; the Indian leopard lies ALONG

a bough with the tail hanging into open air below it [CR_0038_indian_leopard.md:222-225]; this animal

lies ON TOP OF STONE with the tail along the rock. **UNDER THE BRANCH, ON THE BRANCH, ON THE ROCK —

three cats, three altitudes, and the altitude is the finder before the coat is.**

• CR_0029 AGAINST CR_0024 AND CR_0037, the arc's two tigers: bars against rosettes, and on this island

the bar read is settled by the stripe frame above.

THE STATE LADDER — A5 age and state, and these are the states a species-typical photograph does not

contain (AUTHORIAL_ANATOMY throughout, per § 3's declared sourcing gap, except where a cite is given):

• THE ZONE LADDER, WHICH IS THIS ISLAND'S OWN AND IS THE ROW'S STRONGEST NON-PHOTOGRAPHIC STATE.

The region's first principle is the wet-zone / dry-zone split [sri_lanka.md:125-131], and the SAME

SPECIES exists in this chapter in two forms that are legible without a word of text. THE DRY-ZONE

TANK-COUNTRY ANIMAL: a pale, sun-bleached ground colour with the rosettes at their highest contrast,

dust worked into the guard hairs, ticks at the ear margin and in the axilla, a body that carries less

weight and drinks at a fixed hour, and a coat that reads hot. THE WET-ZONE HIGHLAND ANIMAL: a denser,

darker, wetter coat with the rosettes sunk toward the ground colour, moss-green and leaf-stain on the

belly and the forelimbs, and a body that reads heavier because it is never dry. ONE SPECIES, TWO

ENCOUNTERS, and the player reads which one they are in from the coat before they read the map.

• THE UNDISPLACED-LARDER LADDER, WHICH IS THE ROW'S OWN AND EXISTS BECAUSE OF THE APEX CELL. A

mainland leopard's kill is a hoisted object that changes over two days out of reach. This animal's

kill is a GROUND STATE the player can stand in, and it ages in front of them: hour one, an intact

carcass with the grass flattened around it in a working ring and the cat lying in the open within

sight; day one, the carcass opened at the flank with the ribcage presented and a drag furrow of a few

metres where it was pulled into what shade there was; day two, a scatter with the crows and the

monitor lizards on it and the cat gone. The whole ladder is on the floor, in the open, and it is the

difference between ground you may cross and ground you may not.

• THE STOCK-TAKER RUNG, THE ONE RUNG ON THIS LADDER WITH A CITATION UNDER IT. An individual that has

taken cattle wears the consequence, because the record says the people answer: "a charged crossbow set

on the path a leopard used after it had killed a cow" [sri_lanka.md:271-272]. So there is a state in

which the animal carries a healed line across the shoulder at bolt height, has changed the path it

uses, and is bolder at close range than any deep-country animal will ever be — and there is a state

in which the crossbow is still standing on the old path and the cat is not using it any more. THIS IS

A TWO-SIDED STATE: it is written on the animal AND on the ground, and the player who finds a sprung

trap on an unused path has learned that somebody else has been reading this cat longer than they have.

• THE MELANISTIC RUNG, designed under canon's own variant taxonomy and never asserted onto the row.

T3_Creatures_Tameable § 2.1:181 rules the class: "Melanism — excess melanin production;

cross-species. Appearance: dark or all-black morph. Common in certain felids — black panthers in

leopard and jaguar populations — and canids." Occurrence rides the framework's own sigma-bounded rate

of roughly one variant per 4,000 wild-spawn encounters and grants documentation reward rather than

combat power [:171, :189]. THE APPEARANCE IS THE LANDED ONE AND IS NOT RE-DESIGNED: a dark-to-black

coat in which the rosettes remain PRESENT and readable in raking light as a difference of sheen,

because melanism is excess pigment rather than a lost pattern [CR_0038_indian_leopard.md:406-412].

THE DESIGN CONSEQUENCE IS THIS ISLAND'S AND IS THE OPPOSITE OF THE MAINLAND'S. On CH_07 the morph

kills every colour confirm and the animal keeps its concealment. Here it does two contradictory things

at once, and both are the zone ladder speaking: on pale dry-zone granite a black cat is the most

VISIBLE animal on the island and the skyline mark reads at twice the distance; in wet-zone cloud

forest under EG_0014's mist layer it is the least visible thing in the chapter. One morph, two zones,

opposite readings — which is why the contract was built on ratio and topology rather than on pattern.

The row's rare_variant cell is EMPTY and § 9 boards it; this sheet designs and does not write.

• THE AGE LADDER: a cub moved between lie-ups on the rock's shaded side; a dispersing subadult that has

not yet learned which outcrop is held and is therefore in the wrong place more often than any other

animal in the chapter; a prime resident with a preferred stone it returns to daily; and an old animal

with worn teeth that has moved permanently to the grazing margin, because tethered stock does not run.

THE ISLAND'S OWN VARIATION ON THAT LAST RUNG: with no larger cat to be displaced by, an old animal is

not driven out of good ground — it simply takes the easiest food, which is what puts it on the

attested path.

• THE MONSOON BAND: in the wet the coat is sodden and the rosettes lift against a darkened ground; in

the dry the belly and lower limbs carry the tank country's own dust and the pugmark record improves,

because a drying tank margin holds a print the way nothing else in the chapter does.

• **THE SIGN LADDER, THE OFF-BODY RUNG AND THE REGISTER'S REAL REWARD, AND IT IS HORIZONTAL WHERE THE

CH_07 ANIMAL'S IS VERTICAL** [CR_0038_indian_leopard.md:421-426, the vocabulary carried forward and

turned back through ninety degrees]. THE USED PATH — the single most valuable readable object on this

sheet, and the one with an attestation under it: a line of trodden ground between a rock, a water

line and a larder, marked by pugmarks in tank-margin mud and dry-zone laterite, by scrapes at the

path's edge, and by the fact that it is the same line tomorrow. CLAW-SCORED BARK at standing height on

the few trees on that line, HORIZONTAL rather than the rising spiral a hoisting cat leaves — the

single most diagnostic sign in this chapter, because its ORIENTATION says which of the two leopards a

player is dealing with. The DRINKING LINE at the tank margin at a fixed hour. And the flattened

working ring around a kill on open ground, which no hoisting cat leaves at all.

PRIMARY — A9 THE MARK, spent as THE COMPLETE OUTLINE ON THE SKYLINE: one whole cat lying full-length

along the top of a bare rock, against open sky, in daylight, with nothing above it and nothing it has to

be under. MECHANISM, and it is ecology made geometric rather than decoration: a leopard that shares

ground with a larger cat pays for every silhouette it presents — it lies inside cover, it keeps its

outline broken, it carries its food upward and it moves at the hours the bigger animal does not. THIS

ONE PAYS NOTHING, because canon says there is no bigger animal [T3_Creatures_Tameable:345], so its

resting geometry is the highest, hottest, furthest-seeing stone it can find and its outline is

COMPLETE — head at the shoulder line, forelimbs extended, tail lying along the rock, one long unbroken

bar. The island supplies the stone by its own topography, with hills "standing out of it like rocky

islands" [sri_lanka.md:152] and a 180 m granite inselberg as the chapter's headline landform

[sri_lanka.md:143-144]. ONE MARK, ONE MEANING, and it is high-contrast at any distance because a

skyline is the only place in an environment where a shape is guaranteed a clean background — dark bar on

bright sky from below, pale bar on lichen-blotched granite from above. A creature carrying three marks

carries none; this one carries one, and the one it carries is its own confidence.

**THE NEGATIVE-SPACE READ IS INVERTED HERE, AND THE INVERSION IS NAMED AS THE INTENDED CROSS-CREATURE

LESSON.** The arc's other two big cats are found by finding the thing that does NOT move in a moving

field — CR_0056's "patch of the grass line that does not move with the wind"

[CR_0056_african_lion.md:367] and CR_0038's rosettes that stay still while the leaf dapple travels

[CR_0038_indian_leopard.md:544]. THIS ANIMAL IS FOUND THE OTHER WAY ROUND: on lichen-blotched granite

its rosette field is the single best camouflage in the chapter and stillness hides nothing, because the

rock is not moving either. The finder is COMPLETENESS OF OUTLINE against a field of broken shapes — the

one thing on that stone that is a whole animal. Same purpose, opposite instrument, and it is stated as

the lesson rather than left to collide.

ONE-LINE READ: a single long unbroken bar of spotted cat lying on top of a stone against open sky —

the only complete animal outline on the island, because nothing on the island makes it break its line.

THE JOB, and it is why the row is worth a sheet. THE CH_07 LEOPARD'S PROPOSITION IS RETROACTIVE FEAR:

you walked under it. THIS ONE'S IS THE OPPOSITE AND IT ARRIVES FIRST: YOU SAW IT AND IT DID NOT CARE.

The player crosses a tank bund at noon, looks up at a rock, and there is a whole leopard on it looking

back, and nothing happens. That is a feeling the arc has not produced yet and it costs no encounter to

produce — one silhouette rule and a chapter's worth of rocks. It is also the honest reading of what an

island apex IS: not the animal that hides best, but the only animal that never had to learn how.

EMISSION: none. The animal reads by being lit — a body against bright sky, a coat carrying dry-zone

dust or wet-zone rain, the rosette field breaking against lichen, and the flat retinal sheen of an eye

catching a torch already in the scene.

5. articulation_delta

• Nothing is added to the skeleton derived in § 2. This is a REAL_FAUNA sheet and its budget forbids

additions to the body. Stated affirmatively because a landed felid in this arc carries them: this

animal has NO NAPE SHELF and NO OVER-BUILT THROAT — those are CR_0024's declared A4 ELEVATION

[CR_0024_sumatran_tiger.md:119-130] and importing them would elevate against canon and would also

destroy the stripe frame's motion confirm, since the whole-forequarter turn is Khan's tell and not

this animal's.

• THE TAIL IS THE SAME INSTRUMENT THE CH_07 SHEET DECLARED, IN A DIFFERENT PLANE, AND THE INHERITANCE

IS CITED RATHER THAN RE-INVENTED. It is the table's 20-23-bone chain run out to roughly two-thirds to

three-quarters of head-body length, and it carries TWO driven states on this animal

[the two-state instrument at CR_0038_indian_leopard.md:461-468, adopted; the geometries below are

this sheet's]. LYING: on stone the chain is near-passive along the rock surface with the landed

irregular tip twitch as the only motion, which is what makes the resting bar unbroken. DRIVEN FLAT:

before a commit the chain straightens along the ground line behind the body and is actively driven

against the mass, pre-loaded for the turns the run will need. The transition between those two states

is the flat run's only wind-up, which is why § 6 puts it in the tell table.

• THE CLAW IS THE LOAD PATH, AND ON THIS ANIMAL IT IS SPENT ON TWO JOBS THE MAINLAND CAT DOES NOT HAVE.

Protraction is a joint state at the adopted excursion of about 40 degrees at the distal phalanx

[CR_0038_indian_leopard.md:203-206, AUTHORIAL_ANATOMY where the bucket is silent]. JOB ONE is TRACTION

ON DRY GRANITE, which is a friction problem rather than a penetration one and reads in the animation

as a foot that sets and rolls rather than one that grips; JOB TWO is THE ANCHOR in § 6's grab, where

the digits take hold and the body does NOT travel. This is the cross-creature articulation lesson

stated at the joint: same 40 degrees, and on CH_07 it is what a carcass hangs from while on CH_06 it

is what a player is held by.

• THE DESCENT OFF THE ROCK IS BUILT INSIDE THE DECLARED ENVELOPE AND CLAIMS NO NEW STRUCTURE. The

forelimbs reach first with the scapula protracting inside its ±25 excursion, the glenohumeral flexing

inside 57-165, and the load arriving through a carpus hyperextending toward the table's 196, which is

the shock absorber the table already names. The hindquarters follow with hip and stifle inside their

bounds and the hock never hyperextending. Weight passes into the forequarter's MUSCLE SLING, because

the table rules the clavicle vestigial or absent, and that is why a body can do this several times a

day for years without a shoulder joint to shock.

• THE ANCHORED GRAB IS DELIBERATELY BUILT BELOW THE BOARDED FOREARM BOUND. The contact is scapulothoracic

protraction plus glenohumeral flexion plus the digits' protraction, and it uses NONE of the elbow's

±25 pronation-supination, because that figure is the canid-derived bound named in § 2 and a design

that leaned on it would be spending a number the table does not have for this animal. The grab holds

by geometry and claw, not by a turned forearm.

• Nothing else is added. The rosette field, the jaw gape, the sagittal spine arc and the lateral-sequence

walk are the real animal's and are governed by the anatomy law and the table unchanged.

6. fight_grammar

NO BOSS ROW EXISTS AND NONE IS ASKED FOR. CH_06's combat routes are fixed to the counterfeit

deceiver-yaka, the malevolent Tovil disease-demons and the ascent-trial guardians [CH_06.md:221], and

the chapter's boss index carries BE_0006 and its three sub-bosses and nothing else

[sri_lanka.md:103-107]. THIS ROW'S ENCOUNTER VERBS ARE THEREFORE TAKEN FROM ITS GRADE, BECAUSE ITS

VERB CELLS ARE EMPTY AND THE SHEET SAYS SO RATHER THAN INVENTING THEM. collect_verb,

dex_completion_class, combat_permission and rng_drop_anchor are all EMPTY on this row (§ 9). What

IS on the row is trade_8_tameable DANGEROUS, and the grade's own definition is the licence: "cannot be

tamed by standard protocol; the entry fills FIRST through combat (the species is fought, and a fought

apex predator yields its hide, claw or tusk at the drop table's rarity grades), and alternatively

through evasion documentation or a specific trade-mastery non-combat approach"

[T3_Creatures_Tameable:100]. THE SPECIES IS FOUGHT. That sentence plus RULING_7 is the whole authority

for this block, and neither of them is a permission cell.

EVERYTHING BELOW IS INSIDE ENGAGEMENT, AND ENGAGEMENT IS PLAYER-OPENED PER § 1. The animal never

initiates on an unengaged player; the player opens by attacking, by crossing into the rock's footprint,

by entering the sight-ground of an open kill, or at night by standing the used path at the grazing

margin. THE MOMENT ONE IS CROSSED, EVERYTHING IN THIS BLOCK IS LIVE AT FULL WEIGHT AND NOTHING IN IT IS

SOFTENED.

PART ECONOMY HOME: SURFACES, on the ARENA rather than on the body — the places the animal may occupy,

removed one at a time [doctrine § 2.4]. THE ARC'S THIRD FELID INSTANCE OF THE EXTENSION AND THE FIRST

ONE THE PLAYER CAN REACH ON FOOT, WHICH IS THE WHOLE DESIGN POINT. CR_0024 closes approach lanes into a

warded ring [CR_0024_sumatran_tiger.md:192-198]; CR_0038 closes boughs, ledges and trunk lines over a

path [CR_0038_indian_leopard.md:500-514]; this animal's surfaces are ON THE GROUND, because an apex that

never had to lift anything keeps everything where it can be walked to. THE SURFACES: the rock top and

the shaded ground at its base, the open larder, the drinking line at the tank margin, and the used path

that joins them. THE THREE CURRENCIES HOLD. A closed surface is a PERMANENT SUBTRACTION from the

animal's live openers that night, because the escalation's new opener literally cannot run without the

path. Each closure is a LEGIBILITY GAIN, because the remaining occupancy narrows to fewer stones and

one skyline bar is easier to find on three rocks than on ten. And the MATERIAL the economy wants is the

player's own fuel, thorn and hours.

THE CLOSURES ARE THE PERIOD'S OWN AND ARE CITED RATHER THAN INVENTED, WHICH IS THIS ECONOMY'S BEST

PROPERTY. THE SET CROSSBOW ON THE PATH and THE SHARP POLES AT THE GAP IN A THORN HEDGE are both in the

record's own hunting-technology paragraph [sri_lanka.md:270-272, SRC_00237 p. 27]. FIRE and THORN come

off THE STAGED GROUND'S OWN GRAMMAR ROW AND OFF NO OTHER: EG_0058 Dry-Zone Monsoon Scrub and Thorn

Belt carries ambient_state_gift fuel:flammable, physical_properties_array

flammability:high-when-dry, elemental_affinity fire:enhance and tactical_affordance_class

TRAVERSAL_SURFACE, and the Zone Catalog seats it at tank_cascade_dry_zone — the one zone this sheet

stages on [sri_lanka.md:58]. **EG_0067 IS REFUSED HERE AND THE REFUSAL IS A STAGING FACT RATHER THAN

A TASTE**: Unlit Village-Edge Ground Beyond the Rite's Light carries the same fuel:flammable gift, but

the Catalog seats it at village_edura_ward ALONE [sri_lanka.md:61] — protected true

[CH_06.md:98-99], and the zone § 1 swears carries no envelope, tell, state or sign of this sheet. A

closure sourced from a row seated only on protected ground would have put this animal's fight on that

ground through the back door, and the fuel this economy actually wants is on the dry-zone thorn belt

where the fight is. AND THE CLOSURE NO OTHER FELID SHEET IN THE ARC HAS: MOVING THE FOOD. Because

the kill is on the floor and not thirty feet up a fork, the player can drag it, burn it, or give it to

the village whose cow it was. The mainland leopard's larder is unreachable and is therefore a wall; this

one's is an ASSET LYING IN THE OPEN, and the apex's single advantage is also its single exposed thing.

THE SILHOUETTE FRACTIONS, ONE PER SURFACE, BECAUSE DOCTRINE § 4 FAILS A fight_grammar BLOCK CARRYING A

PART WITH NO SILHOUETTE FRACTION. THE AFFIRMATIVE STATEMENT COMES FIRST SO NO GATE READS A SILENCE: a

SURFACES home extended to a BODIED creature cannot carry a body fraction — none of these parts is on the

animal, its own silhouette is unchanged by every closure, and the fraction that moves is the ARENA's,

which is the convention doctrine § 2.4 already uses for VEHICLE ("measured in silhouette fractions of

the ARENA rather than of the creature"). The fractions below are of the ARENA FRAME at the shipped

combat camera. The doctrine ask this extension needs is already boarded twice and is named rather than

re-argued [CR_0024_sumatran_tiger.md:372-378; CR_0038_indian_leopard.md:868-875].

• THE ROCK AND ITS SHADE BASE: the largest fraction in the set — an outcrop standing out of open scrub

occupies roughly the UPPER THIRD of the frame at the bund-walking camera and its shaded base another

tenth beneath it, which is why an occupied stone is legible before it is reached and why the closure

that pays most is simply choosing the far side of the tank.

• THE OPEN LARDER: a single object at roughly a TENTH of the frame with a flattened working ring around

it that reads as a lighter patch across a further fifth of the ground plane. The loudest read in the

set, because a carcass lying uncovered in short scrub is unlike anything else the dry zone holds.

• THE DRINKING LINE: a thin band along the tank margin at about a SIXTH of the frame width where the

water meets the shallows, and its closure is the only one that is not the player's to make — the

monsoon closes it, and the dry season opens it wider every week.

• THE USED PATH: a linear member running roughly a QUARTER of the frame's depth. A set crossbow or a

thorn-and-pole gap closes one path at a time, and the fraction subtracted is not the path itself but

the rock and the larder it was the only quiet route between, which is the largest indirect

subtraction the economy has.

NO SHAPE CARRIES TWO ANSWERS, and the animal's whole lesson is one sentence: **THIS CAT SHOWS YOU

EVERYTHING AND CHARGES YOU FOR CROSSING ANYWAY.** Every tell above is visible from further off than the

equivalent tell on either landed leopard, because the animal has no reason to conceal any of them — and

the difficulty is not detection but DISCIPLINE, because the envelopes are wide and the ground between

them is where the player wants to walk.

THE CROSS-CREATURE LESSONS, ALL THREE NAMED, BECAUSE ALL THREE ARE DELIBERATE.

• AGAINST CR_0038, THE SAME SPECIES: THE GRAB. The mainland cat's grab is a VECTOR — "the forelimbs

taking hold at contact and the whole body immediately reversing toward cover", answered by "making its

destination unusable" [CR_0038_indian_leopard.md:547]. THIS ONE'S GRAB IS AN ANCHOR, because it has

nowhere it needs to take anything and nothing it needs to take it from. THE ANSWER MOVES FROM THE

PLACE TO THE LIMB. In play order this sheet teaches the anchor first and CH_07 takes it away: a player

who meets the second cat and answers it the island way — meeting the forearm — is still standing there

meeting a forearm while the animal reverses into cover with them. That is the intended lesson and it

is stated in the direction the player will actually receive it.

• AGAINST CR_0056, THE ARC'S OTHER OPEN-GROUND CAT: THE CHARGE. The lion carries two charges and

teaches that "THE SILENT ONE IS THE REAL ONE", with the discriminating channel being the VOICE

[CR_0056_african_lion.md:369-374]. THIS ANIMAL HAS ONE CHARGE AND IT IS ALWAYS SILENT, so the voice

channel carries no information at all and the discriminator moves to the GROUND: this cat commits only

where the ground between it and the player is open, and it will not spend the run through scrub.

Play order makes this an escalation of one vocabulary rather than a collision — Ch 6 teaches "a cat

that comes at you without a sound is coming", and Ch 10 adds "and one that comes at you loudly is

not".

• AGAINST CR_0028, THE ARC'S OTHER ISLAND CAT: THE OTHER ANIMALS' VOICES. The clouded leopard is

read through a SILENCE that travels — "a hole moving through a continuous bed, and its direction of

travel is the information" [CR_0028_sunda_clouded_leopard.md:213-215]. This chapter runs the same

instrument at the opposite polarity: the leopard is announced by NOISE, the alarm chorus of the rowed

fauna it hunts, and the escalation is in the block below. ONE INSTRUMENT — the ecosystem answering a

predator — AND THE DISCRIMINATOR IS WHETHER THE WORLD GOES QUIET OR GOES LOUD. A player who has

learned to listen for a hole will not hear this one, and that is the intended cost of the lesson.

THE ESCALATION, ON THE FOUR CHANNELS, and it is ASSERTIVENESS INSIDE ENGAGEMENT rather than a phase.

• **POSTURE — THE APEX STARTS BEHAVING LIKE A SECOND CAT, WHICH IS THE MOST UNSETTLING ESCALATION

AVAILABLE TO IT.** Everything above says this animal owns the open and does not have to hide. At

escalation IT GOES INTO COVER — off the stone, into EG_0058's dry-zone thorn belt and the unlit

ground off the bund [sri_lanka.md:58], breaking its

own outline for the first time. THE READ THE PLAYER MAKES IS EXACT AND NEEDS NO TEXT: the thing with

nothing to fear only conceals itself when it has stopped warning you and started hunting you. (This is

deliberately the INVERSE of the CH_07 animal's escalation, which comes DOWN out of the trees and stays

down [CR_0038_indian_leopard.md:566-569]; one cat gives up its height, the other gives up its

visibility, and each is surrendering the thing it has been leaning on.)

• BREATH — ON THIS ANIMAL BREATH IS SEEN AND NOT HEARD, which suits open bright ground and a body on hot

stone: at rest the flanks work in a long slow bellows that is readable across still air at the far

side of a tank bund. At escalation the rhythm shortens and then the flank stops being a rhythm at all,

and the player who has been using the breathing to judge distance loses their instrument.

• VOCALIZATION — THE ANIMAL IS SILENT AND THE ISLAND SPEAKS FOR IT. The channel is carried by the

chapter's own rowed fauna: the alarm calling of @ CR_0033 the spotted deer and @ CR_0034 the sambar

— the two species the Vedda record names as the tracked game [sri_lanka.md:265-266] — and of

@ CR_0032 the purple-faced langur. The escalation is the chorus arriving CLOSER, and then STOPPING,

which means the callers have lost sight of it. A player can name the state change before any meter

confirms it, and the naming is "they can't see it any more."

• NEW OPENER — THE PATH IN DAYLIGHT. The animal that has been meeting the player at dusk on the used

path starts holding that path at noon. It is the one thing a cat with a competitor above it could never

afford, and its cost to the player is their safe hours: the subtraction is not a move, it is a time of

day.

THE OPENER AND ITS VARIANTS: the root is THE SKYLINE BODY — the most legible and least punishing thing

in the set, because obeying it costs nothing and it teaches the whole encounter. Its variants share the

origin and lengthen from it: THE TAIL GOES FLAT is the same resting body spent; THE DESCENT is the same

body arriving; THE FLAT RUN is the descent completed across ground; THE GRAB THAT STAYS is the run

landed; THE KILL IN THE OPEN is the same occupancy with a reason attached and a longer commitment behind

it. Teaching order is find it on the stone, watch it, watch the tail go flat, and then find out what the

open ground between the rocks was for.

THE TAME HALF OF RULING_7, BUILT, AND ITS THREE ROUTES ARE THE GRADE'S OWN

[T3_Creatures_Tameable:100, :118, :120]:

• **THE OBSERVATION CHAIN, AND ON THIS ANIMAL IT IS THE EASIEST IN THE ARC TO START AND THE HARDEST TO

FINISH.** Seven non-combat observations is the canonical completionist benchmark

[T3_Creatures_Tameable:114] and progress lives in the ANIMAL rather than in a HUD, on the landed

ladder [CR_0024_sumatran_tiger.md:262-267]. THE SHAPE HERE IS THE INVERSE OF THE CH_07 CHAIN, where

the early observations are of the tree and only the later ones of the body

[CR_0038_indian_leopard.md:591-594]: here the FIRST observation is free, because the animal is lying

on a rock in daylight in plain sight, and the LAST ones are the hard ones, because documenting a kill

ring, a drinking hour and a used path means being on the animal's ground on its schedule. The chain

ends where every felid chain in the arc ends — the animal lets you be there — and on this species that

is less a change in the animal than a change in how close the player is willing to stand.

• THE TRADE-MASTERY NON-COMBAT APPROACHES: Herbalism plant-based pacification at Trade 4 mastery,

Trickery misdirection at Trade 8 mastery, and Animal Communication species-level request behaviour at

Trade 1 canonical mastery [T3_Creatures_Tameable:120]. **THE GATE IS NAMED HONESTLY RATHER THAN

ASSERTED, AND IT IS THINNER HERE THAN AT CH_07.** § 1.5 gates a mid-tier mammal's Animal Communication

response at "Theoricus through Practicus" [T3_Creatures_Tameable:149] and this row's

intelligence_tier cell is EMPTY, so the gate has NO machine-readable home on the row — the same

honest form both landed leopard-family sheets use, and § 9 boards it. Two further facts bind and are

stated rather than assumed away: CH_06 roots NO trade home base and seeds Herbalism and Engineering as

substrate only, with Trade 4's home one chapter ahead at Ch 7 [CH_06.md:255], and the chapter records

a per-capability NEOPHYTE FLOOR across every capability [CH_06.md:250]. The routes are therefore

DESIGNED AND SEEDED at Ch 6 and are unlikely to be reached here, which is a fact about the chapter's

position rather than a reduction of the row.

• **THE FULL HUNT LOOP IS AUTHORED IN FULL AND ITS LICENCE IS NOT ON THIS ROW, AND THE SHEET SAYS SO

RATHER THAN EITHER CUTTING IT OR INVENTING A PERMISSION.** § 1.3 grants the loop by name to

"QUARRY-status species and PERMITTED DANGEROUS-status species" [T3_Creatures_Tameable:118]. THIS ROW

IS DANGEROUS AND ITS combat_permission CELL IS EMPTY, where the two landed felids that built the

loop both carry PERMITTED explicitly [CR_0024_sumatran_tiger.md:21; CR_0038_indian_leopard.md:22], and

its rng_drop_anchor is empty where both of theirs read DROP_BIGGAME_HIDE_MEAT. Reading PERMITTED

onto an empty cell would be inventing the exact class of permission a director has already recorded

himself getting wrong by ruling from calibration without opening the row

[DIRECTOR_RULING_L11.json RULING_17, "the pattern the fixes share"]. SO THE LOOP IS WRITTEN AND

WAITING, on the CR_0028 precedent of authoring the encounter a permission would arm

[CR_0028_sunda_clouded_leopard.md:231-236]: TRACKING runs on the horizontal sign ladder in § 4 and is

a genuinely different skill from either landed cat's — the player follows a USED PATH between three

known objects rather than reading pugmarks at random or scanning crowns; APPROACH is on open ground

against an animal that can see the whole plain from its stone, so the loop's real problem is COVER

rather than wind, and the dry-zone scrub and the tank bund are the only two things that supply any;

THE KILL with the weapon and element the animal's hide and mass answer to; FIELD-DRESSING into hide,

claw, meat and sinew at the drop table's rarity grades, which is the grade's own language

[T3_Creatures_Tameable:100]; and THE CONSEQUENCE in the doc's own words — "the range thins, the

predator that fed on it moves, and the community that shares the range remembers who took what"

predator to move into the hole and the range does not refill from anywhere. THE REVERSAL CONDITION IS

ON THE FACE: the moment combat_permission PERMITTED and a drop anchor land on this row, the loop

arms BY MEASUREMENT and needs no further ruling. THE HUNT IS NEVER REQUIRED IN ANY CASE — the

seven-observation chain is the completionist path [:118], which is also what the region page's "no

encounter that requires a kill" [sri_lanka.md:288] means in mechanical terms.

RELOCATION AND TURF. The animal holds a set of STONES and the ground between them, and it rotates them:

a preferred outcrop, two or three alternates, a drinking line that moves as the tank falls, and a larder

wherever the last kill dropped. Under the ruling that rotation IS the trigger geometry, and it makes the

chapter's most useful player knowledge PERISHABLE in a way the CH_07 animal's is not: the tree that was

occupied yesterday is a different tree today, but a ROCK does not move — so what changes here is which

of a fixed set is taken, and the player's map of the dry zone slowly becomes a list of stones with

dates against them. It BREAKS CONTACT ALONG THE GROUND rather than upward, which is why a fight with it

can end without either party dying, and it does not follow onto the protected worked water of the tank

bund and sluice pockets [@ EG_0055, @ EG_0056, both enemy_usable FALSE]. What it does to the arena

is put a MOVING SUBSET of a FIXED SET of rocks off limits, which is a resident's behaviour and not a set

• **COLLECTIVE READ, PREMISED ON THIS ROW'S OWN CELL RATHER THAN ON A CLASS THIS SHEET WOULD HAVE TO

ASSIGN IT.** ontology_class is EMPTY on CR_0029 and this sheet writes nothing into it and derives

nothing from it — the correction the director applied at L13 to two sheets that pre-empted the same

column [DIRECTOR_RULING_L13.json RULING_2, "collective reads re-premised on the CELL (empty) rather

than the ORDINARY_FAUNA class"]. THE COLLECTIVE READ THEREFORE STANDS ON TWO FACTS AND NOT ON A LABEL:

no living-tradition claim attaches to this row (§ 3, folklore columns empty, searched and

positive-controlled), and doctrine part five rules that § 17.1 protection is collective and protects

communities rather than animals. CH_06's § 17.1 protection is about the Sinhalese, the Vedda, the

Tamil community, the Buddhist sangha and their sacred practice, the edura healers, the monks, the

physicians and the villagers [CH_06.md:221] — every one of them a teaching or protected presence, and

• **THE CHAPTER'S SHARPEST CARE RULE IS THIS SHEET'S OWN AND IT IS A REFUSAL OF ELEVATION RATHER THAN A

SORTING PROBLEM, and it would be the worst of the three, because it would teach the player that the

categories leak. So no yaka, no nae-yaku, no naga and no omen attaches to this animal anywhere on this

sheet, and the one place the record could have been stretched to supply one — the unnamed "dangerous

animal" in the Sinhalese charm [sri_lanka.md:610-611] — is affirmatively left unnamed in § 3.

• THE MARGIN IS THE ONE PLACE THIS SHEET COMES NEAR PEOPLE, AND ITS TERMS ARE STATED EXPLICITLY. The

night envelope is a grazing margin and an attested cattle-killing, which means a community's animals

and therefore a community's loss. THE RULES: no person is ever in the target position; the player is

never rewarded for harm to anyone at the margin; the loss is the WORLD's consequence rather than a

scene staged for effect; the encounter opens only because the player chose to stand there; and nothing

MOVE ON THIS SHEET IS THAT THE COMMUNITY IS NOT PASSIVE IN IT** — the record's own sentence is that

the people set a charged crossbow on the path the animal used [sri_lanka.md:271-272], so the village

is an ACTOR with its own documented method, and the player who arrives to help is arriving somewhere

that was already handling it. The precedent for building rather than cutting this content is landed

and is cited rather than re-argued: CR_0024 examined and REFUSED cutting livestock predation, on the

ground that "a predator with nothing to prey on is a stat block rather than a resident"

[CR_0024_sumatran_tiger.md:311-314].

• NO ENVELOPE, TELL, STATE OR SIGN ON THIS SHEET TOUCHES THE PROTECTED GROUND, and the list is

restated here as a care fact rather than only a staging one: the sacred city, the Vedda forest, the

Baka-honeyguide, Ch 12 Vodun-python, Ch 29 Sámi-reindeer, Ch 42 Haiti, Ch 57 Australia. Ch 06 is

absent, and its absence is the ruling. The chapter's one community-and-species relationship is the

MAHOUT AND THE ELEPHANT, and the region page rules it explicitly as a reading protocol rather than a

capture [sri_lanka.md:257-263] — which is a different species, a different row, and a different

lane.

SHEET PLACES MUTHU OR ANY NAMED FAMILIAR IN THE PREY POSITION. The animal's prey base is the chapter's

own rowed and attested list — the spotted deer, the sambar and the langur (§ 3) — and staging a

player's bonded companion as a carcass in a working ring would be a cheap beat bought at the cost of

the chapter's exit bond.

• ROUTE: concept plate, then the ordinary build. The subject is real charismatic megafauna and the style

cell reads realistic-ethnographic, which is one careless prompt away from the anatomically-accurate

photographic-wildlife brief that produced a documentary lizard. THE PLATE'S JUDGING QUESTION: does the

animal in it read as a DESIGNED INDIVIDUAL carrying a named zone band, a named larder state and a

• ANTI-TIMID PASS, RECORDED, AND IT RUNS IN BOTH DIRECTIONS, FIVE TIMES.

(1) IS THE REAL_FAUNA REGISTER A DEFANG? EXAMINED AND RULED NO. The register governs ELEVATION and

nothing else — § 3D states every other test binds unchanged. This row's folklore columns are empty,

CH_06.md:240 reserves stylization by name, and § 4 shows that an elevated leopard would actively

damage the chapter's own perceive-then-break lesson. An elevation here would be elevation AGAINST

canon, which § 3D was ratified to stop.

(2) IS THE PLAYER-OPENED RULING A DEFANG ON AN APEX PREDATOR? THIS IS THE PASS THIS SHEET MOST NEEDS

RECORDED, AND THE DEVIL'S-ADVOCATE READING IS THE STRONGEST ONE IN THE FELID SET: an apex is by

(3) SHOULD THE HUNT LOOP HAVE BEEN BUILT AS LIVE RATHER THAN AS WAITING? EXAMINED HARDEST OF ALL,

BECAUSE THE BOLD DIRECTION IS THE ARC'S OWN PRECEDENT. Both landed felids build the loop live and both

record refusing to cut it. THE DIFFERENCE IS MEASURED AND IT IS ON THE CELL: § 1.3's grant names

PERMITTED by name and this row's permission cell is empty, where theirs are filled. Nothing is
