CANON SUBORDINATION — this document is PROPOSAL-TIER: it serves canon and never outranks it.
The canon: the CVD · the T1 foundation docs · the T0 registries (registries/) · the spine
(docs/spine/CH_*.md) · the region pages (_source/02_Tier_2_Region_Pages/). Authority order:docs/DOC_MAP.md§ 0.
Canon served (structural — the registries this kit's canon rows live in, plus its chapter's spine node):
T0_Creature_Roster·docs/spine/CH_02.md
READ THAT CANON FIRST — open it and derive from it before you build anything from this document.
If this document disagrees with canon, CANON WINS and this document is the defect — fix the
document, never the canon. Nothing here is applied until it is ratified into canon.
PROPOSAL-TIER. This kit serves canon and never outranks it. It writes no registry row.
The law it obeys: docs/proposals/combat/KIT_SCALING_TABLE.md. The intelligence scale:
docs/proposals/combat/INTELLIGENCE_TIERS.md. The body it fights with is the bestiary
lane's: docs/proposals/bestiary/BESTIARY_ELEVATION_DOCTRINE.md and its sheets. This file
describes the FIGHT; it never restates the BODY. Authors no magnitude -- no damage, no
health, no timing, no coefficient. Those are Phase-5M's behind the tuning firewall.

Silhouette read. Four of them where you were looking, and one of them behind you.
Opener (MHM-G10, the cheap lesson first). OPEN APPROACH -- a single bold animal walks straight up and sits down within arm's reach. Nothing happens. It is the cheapest possible lesson and it is a lie by omission: the encounter has already started and it started behind you.
| phase | name | what it PUSHES (nothing pops) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | assessment | the troop is measuring what you carry and how you hold it. Losing here costs an item, never health. |
| 2 | committed theft | one animal has something of yours. Nothing stops -- the assessment continues on whatever is still on your belt -- and the relay, the mobbing screen and the height break are pushed on top. |
| # | ability | phase | body origin | tell shape | counter | note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Open Approach | 1 | bipedal walk, hands visibly empty, eye contact avoided | it sits down inside your reach and does nothing | any | MHM-G10's cheap lesson used as misdirection, which is legitimate because the animal genuinely does this and it genuinely works. |
| 2 | Loose-Item Read | 1 | head and eyes only, tracking your hands and your belt line | the head tracks an object rather than your face | any | The tell that tells the player what is about to be taken. Reading it back is the entire defensive skill of this encounter. |
| 3 | Flank Drift | 1 | two or three animals moving wide on the ground while one holds your eye | the animal in front of you stops moving | cover | AGG-G29's role set at its smallest scale: a holder and a pair of flankers, not three copies of one body. Cover means put your back somewhere. |
| 4 | Threat Display | 1 | open-mouth gape, eyebrow flash, a short forward rush that stops | the mouth opens wide with the teeth covered | any | A bluff, and the game says so: a covered-teeth gape is display. It costs nothing and it moves the player, which is all the troop wants. |
| 5 | Snatch | 1 | one hand, from a standing start at contact range | the holding animal breaks eye contact a beat early | trigger_interrupt | The theft itself. The interrupt is a grip-hold on the item, generous, and it is the only input in the encounter with a real fail cost. |
| 6 | Relay Hand-Off | 2 | the thief to a second animal, at speed, mid-flight | the thief runs TOWARD another macaque instead of away from you | trigger_interrupt | Why chasing the thief is the wrong answer. The relay makes pursuit a losing plan and turns the encounter into a negotiation, which is what the row's gift-exchange note is for. |
| 7 | Mobbing Screen | 2 | the whole troop, close, loud, and never quite touching | the troop closes distance while making noise | cover | Pressure without damage. It exists to make the player swing, and swinging is how this encounter goes wrong. |
| 8 | Height Break | 2 | a vertical exit up a trunk or a wall face | the animal's weight shifts onto its hind legs at the base of something climbable | dodge_only | The escape. Once it is above head height the item is gone until the troop is bargained with, and that is a state change rather than a failure. |
CLASS PURITY (tooth T5). Every move above is physical. No element family, no vril
mechanism, no non-ordinary affordance appears in this kit, because this being's own canon
row carries no hollow row, no lore home and nothing that elevates it. It is dangerous the
way the real animal or the real person is dangerous, engineered up until it reads at the
shipped combat camera. TIMID here would mean BORING-PHYSICAL, never insufficiently magical.
| part | moveset subtraction on break | legibility gain | material the economy wants |
|---|---|---|---|
| the carried item itself (the part economy, inverted) | recovering it removes Relay Hand-Off (6) and Height Break (8) from the encounter, because there is nothing left to move | the troop's attention visibly disperses -- the animals stop coordinating and go back to being animals, which is the clearest possible read that the encounter is over | nothing is harvested. This kit's part economy pays in RECOVERY rather than in material, which is the honest shape for an encounter whose subject is theft |
EG_0012 Forest Canopy Bough Network -- ENEMY: the destination of Height Break (8) and the reason the troop cannot be cornered. PLAYER: it is armed with D1_COLLAPSE and D2_IGNITE, and using either of them on a troop of monkeys to recover a knife is available, effective, and exactly the choice the chapter is watching the player make.EG_0020 Montane Forest Understory -- ENEMY: cover for the Flank Drift (3). PLAYER: the ground where the relay can actually be cut, because the hand-off needs a sightline.EG_0005 Cave Pillar and Karst Column -- PLAYER: the back-to-something answer to the Mobbing Screen (7), and the only geometry that makes Flank Drift fail outright.| channel | what the player sees or hears |
|---|---|
| posture | the troop stops sitting; every animal that was resting is now standing on all fours and facing one way |
| breath | not readable on this body, and the kit says so rather than inventing one -- the channel is carried by the vocal and posture rows instead |
| vocal | the ambient chatter drops to nothing for one full beat before the mobbing noise starts, and that silence is the tell |
| opener | Open Approach is retired; Threat Display becomes the opener |
IT ENTERS from above and from behind, always both. IT RELOCATES vertically, which is the one axis the player does not own in this chapter. IT LEAVES when it has what it came for, or when the gift-exchange protocol the row names is offered -- and that protocol is the non-kill path, the taming hook, and the correct answer all at once. WHAT IT DOES TO THE ARENA: it makes the vertical layer legible for the first time, which is the setup the Ch-4 cliff-vertical agility course pays off.
ORDINARY FAUNA. The row's own notes carry this animal forward into Bali as the uluwatu_seacliff_temple cliff troop, and the Angkor temple-precinct cohort is the SEPARATE row CR_0140 at combat_permission = PROTECTED inside a sacred precinct. This kit is the Flores population and the Bali cliff troop; it is NOT licensed for the Angkor precinct, where the correct interaction is observation and the row says so. A kit that travels further than its rows do is how a care boundary gets crossed by accident.
This kit is authored ONCE, at Fading. The five modulators of KIT_SCALING_TABLE section 4
express it across the ladder: active_ability_set grows upward through reserved follow-ups
on roots the player already learned, window_class tightens, answer_tree_depth prunes
toward the single true answer, hazard_concurrency rises with the arena rows above, and
phase_overlap interleaves the phase cycles. No second kit exists and no number here changes
with the tier.
