CANON SUBORDINATION — this document is PROPOSAL-TIER: it serves canon and never outranks it.
The canon: the CVD · the T1 foundation docs · the T0 registries (registries/) · the spine
(docs/spine/CH_*.md) · the region pages (_source/02_Tier_2_Region_Pages/). Authority order:docs/DOC_MAP.md§ 0.
Canon served (structural — the registries this kit's canon rows live in, plus its chapter's spine node):

READ THAT CANON FIRST — open it and derive from it before you build anything from this document.
If this document disagrees with canon, CANON WINS and this document is the defect — fix the
document, never the canon. Nothing here is applied until it is ratified into canon.
PROPOSAL-TIER. This kit serves canon and never outranks it. It writes no registry row.
The law it obeys: docs/proposals/combat/KIT_SCALING_TABLE.md. The intelligence scale:
docs/proposals/combat/INTELLIGENCE_TIERS.md. The body it fights with is the bestiary
lane's: docs/proposals/bestiary/BESTIARY_ELEVATION_DOCTRINE.md and its sheets. This file
describes the FIGHT; it never restates the BODY. Authors no magnitude -- no damage, no
health, no timing, no coefficient. Those are Phase-5M's behind the tuning firewall.

Silhouette read. A lion that is not looking at you, and will not, and that is the problem.
Opener (MHM-G10, the cheap lesson first). THE FIXATION LINE -- it passes close enough to touch and its attention goes THROUGH you. Free, unharmed, and it is the whole encounter: you are not what it came for, and until that changes nothing you do lands.
| phase | name | what it PUSHES (nothing pops) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | the hunt | it wants one man. The player is scenery to it, weapons do not land, and the job is geometry. |
| 2 | the turn | BE_0013_S4's evolve-not-swap clause: THE SAME NIGHT-LUNGE GRAMMAR, NOW AIMED AT WHOEVER IS IN FRONT OF IT RATHER THAN THROUGH THEM. Nothing new; the same moves, finally addressed to you. |
| # | ability | phase | kind | body origin | tell shape | counter | element | lore ground + mechanism | note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | The Fixation Line | 1 | non-ordinary | the whole body, aimed past the player | its attention goes THROUGH you and never at you | any | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0013_S4's own counters cell, verbatim -- 'read the fixation line -- it goes through the player and never at them, which is the tell AND THE PROOF THAT DAMAGE IS NOT THE ANSWER YET'. MECHANISM: the /Xam account of the sorcerer-lion is of a hunt with ONE object; the fixation is what makes it unkillable, so the fixation is the mechanic. ontology_class = CONDEMNED. Element none -- the tradition names no element. | The opener, and it is the fight's thesis delivered by being ignored. |
| 2 | The Night-Lunge | 1 | physical | hindquarters and shoulders, from outside the firelight | the grass line goes quiet on one side | dodge_only | -- | -- | PHYSICAL. It is a lion and it moves like one; that is half of what makes it frightening. |
| 3 | The Low Circle | 1 | physical | a wide prowl at the edge of the light | it crosses the same ground in the same direction twice | cover | -- | -- | |
| 4 | The Weapons That Do Not Land | 1 | non-ordinary | the fixation, holding | a clean strike arrives and does nothing | neutralize | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0013_S4 -- 'the fixation holds AND WEAPONS DO NOT LAND'. MECHANISM: this is the row's own statement and the kit does not soften it; the answer in phase 1 is not damage. Element none. | The most important refusal in the slice: the game takes the sword away for a whole phase. |
| 5 | The Ground Between | 1 | physical | the player's own body, put in the line | the fixation bends around you rather than through you | trigger_interrupt | -- | -- | The row's counter -- 'put ground, water and the shelter mouth between it and the man it wants'. This is the first of the three. |
| 6 | The Water | 1 | physical | the pan's standing water, crossed | it takes the long way | cover | -- | -- | The second of the three. EG_0224 and the sand-country pan both carry it. |
| 7 | The Shelter Mouth | 1 | physical | the overhang, and a man inside it | it stops at the drip line | any | -- | -- | The third. The row names all three and the kit authors all three. |
| 8 | The Thing That Makes It Unkillable | 1 | non-ordinary | the object of the hunt, still in reach | everything about it is answerable except the part that matters | weak_point | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0013_S4 -- 'the turn, once ITS OBJECT IS OUT OF REACH and the thing that made it unkillable is gone'. MECHANISM: the invulnerability is CONDITIONAL and the condition is a person's location. Element none. | The named weak point of phase 1, and it is somebody else's safety. |
| 9 | The Aimed Night-Lunge | 2 | physical | the same lunge, at you | the grass line goes quiet and the attention comes WITH it | dodge_only | -- | -- | The row's evolve-not-swap clause: the same grammar, addressed. And the row's own phase-2 counter -- 'the night-lunge -> a side-break on the commit'. |
| 10 | The Aimed Low Circle | 2 | physical | the same prowl, closing | it crosses the same ground twice and the second pass is nearer | cover | -- | -- | The row's second phase-2 counter -- 'the low circle -> hold the high ground it will not take'. |
| 11 | The High Ground Refused | 2 | physical | its own unwillingness to climb | it stops at the base of the rock | any | -- | -- | PHYSICAL, and it is a real cat behaviour used exactly as the row names it. |
| 12 | The Ordinary Death | 2 | non-ordinary | the thing, now killable | a strike lands | any | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0013_S4 win_condition = FREE;REDUCE, has_nonkill_path = TRUE. MECHANISM: with its object safe it is a dangerous animal and nothing more, and FREE is the row's own first verb -- getting the man out is the win, and the kill is optional. Element none. |
ELEVATED, AND NOT ELEMENTAL BY DEFAULT (KIT_SCALING_TABLE 3.1b). 4 of the 12 moves
above are non-ordinary and each names its element family, its lore ground and its
mechanism. The rest are a body doing physical things, and they are marked physical rather
than dressed up. An elevated kit is one that CONTAINS the non-ordinary; it is not one in
which everything glows.

|---|---|---|---|
| the fixation itself | The Fixation Line (1), The Weapons That Do Not Land (4) and The Thing That Makes It Unkillable (8) all leave the encounter the moment its object is out of reach | it looks at you, which after a whole phase of being looked through is the single most legible transition in the batch | nothing harvested. FREE is the win |
| its night advantage | The Night-Lunge (2) and The Low Circle (3) lose their cover once fire or high ground is held | it has to approach on ground it can be seen on | nothing harvested -- and see the care read |

| posture | it stops carrying its head level with its shoulders and drops it, which is the ordinary lion posture and therefore the reassuring one |
| breath | audible for the first time in phase 2 -- in phase 1 it makes no sound at all |
| vocal | the night's own -- every other animal in the pan stops calling when it is close, and starts again the moment its object is safe |

IT ENTERS from outside the firelight, on its own schedule. IT RELOCATES around whatever it wants, never around the player. IT LEAVES when its object does. WHAT IT DOES TO THE ARENA: it makes the player's own position irrelevant, which is a terrifying thing for a combat system to do and the reason this encounter is the chapter's best.
care_tier = elevated, ontology_class = CONDEMNED, target_type = folklore_malevolent_being, has_nonkill_path = TRUE, win_condition = FREE;REDUCE. THE /XAM FOLKLORE-COMBAT CLASS, STAGED AT LAST -- the sorcerer-lion is the tradition's own condemned being and it is rendered as the tradition condemns it: a hunt with one object, unkillable while it holds it. The rated-M bar rules this toward the fight and the kit obeys, but the WIN IS FREE: getting the man out is the victory and the kill is optional afterwards. Nothing in this encounter accuses a living person, and no /Xam or San person is ever a target -- the being is the being. The hunting-people's own working grounds (EG_0209, EG_0211) are care-bound and are never burned, poisoned or destroyed.
This kit is authored ONCE, at Fading. The five modulators of KIT_SCALING_TABLE section 4
express it across the ladder: active_ability_set grows upward through reserved follow-ups
on roots the player already learned, window_class tightens, answer_tree_depth prunes
toward the single true answer, hazard_concurrency rises with the arena rows above, and
phase_overlap interleaves the phase cycles. No second kit exists and no number here changes
with the tier.
