KIT_BE_0010 -- The Rock-Art Echo and the shadow on it -- four steps held, and no damage anywhere

CANON SUBORDINATION — this document is PROPOSAL-TIER: it serves canon and never outranks it.
The canon: the CVD · the T1 foundation docs · the T0 registries (registries/) · the spine
(docs/spine/CH_*.md) · the region pages (_source/02_Tier_2_Region_Pages/). Authority order: docs/DOC_MAP.md § 0.
Canon served (structural — the registries this kit's canon rows live in, plus its chapter's spine node):
T0_Boss_Encounter_Registry · docs/spine/CH_10.md
READ THAT CANON FIRST — open it and derive from it before you build anything from this document.
If this document disagrees with canon, CANON WINS and this document is the defect — fix the
document, never the canon. Nothing here is applied until it is ratified into canon.
PROPOSAL-TIER. This kit serves canon and never outranks it. It writes no registry row.
The law it obeys: docs/proposals/combat/KIT_SCALING_TABLE.md. The intelligence scale:
docs/proposals/combat/INTELLIGENCE_TIERS.md. The body it fights with is the bestiary
lane's: docs/proposals/bestiary/BESTIARY_ELEVATION_DOCTRINE.md and its sheets. This file
describes the FIGHT; it never restates the BODY. Authors no magnitude -- no damage, no
health, no timing, no coefficient. Those are Phase-5M's behind the tuning firewall.

Silhouette read. A panel that is dimmer than it was, and something standing between it and the light that is not standing anywhere.

Opener (MHM-G10, the cheap lesson first). THE FIRST MISREAD -- the player reads the panel, gets it wrong, and is given a free re-perceive. The row itself guarantees this: 'a misread echo grants a free re-perceive'. It is the cheapest lesson in the game and it is a promise -- this encounter will not punish you for looking.

phases -- evolve, never swap

phasenamewhat it PUSHES (nothing pops)
1perceptiontelling the genuine echo from the grief aping it. Nothing else is possible yet and nothing can be damaged.
2vril-managementLAYERED ON TOP of a perception that must keep being held. The inner heat rises and holding it steady is a second simultaneous job.
3restraintlayered again. The violent impulse arrives and refusing it is the ability. Phases 1 and 2 are still running.
4purgationthe last layer. Driving the //gauwasi's shadow back off the panel, with all three prior holds still live. Nothing has popped at any transition.

#abilityphasekindbody origintell shapecounterelementlore ground + mechanismnote
1The First Misread1non-ordinarythe panel, read wronglythe reading comes back and does not settleanynoneLORE GROUND: BE_0010's own counters cell, verbatim -- 'a misread echo grants a free re-perceive'. MECHANISM: the encounter is a protocol, so a wrong step is a step to retake rather than a hit taken. Element none; nothing elemental is claimed and the tradition names none.MHM-G10's cheap lesson, and it is a guarantee rather than a move.
2The Entoptic Register1non-ordinarythe panel's own geometric formsa pattern that belongs to the panel and one that does notweak_pointnoneLORE GROUND: BE_0010's counter -- 'genuine-vs-//gauwasi-shadow cross-readable two ways (entoptic-pattern read or vril-state sense)'. MECHANISM: the entoptic forms are the panel's own vocabulary; the shadow cannot produce them correctly. Element none.CROSS-READABLE: this and ability 3 are two independent answers to the same question, which is the no-dead-end guarantee written into the row.
3The Vril-State Sense1non-ordinarythe reader's own state, applied to the panelthe trace comes back cold where it should come back stillneutralizenoneLORE GROUND: same counters cell on BE_0010. MECHANISM: the second of the two independent reads. Element none. Neophyte-tier: a state, never a signature.
4The Grief Aping It1non-ordinarysomething that is not the echo, wearing its shapea form that is correct and arrives a beat after the panel changesneutralizenoneLORE GROUND: BE_0010 phase_breakdown_object -- 'Perception (genuine echo vs the grief aping it)'. MECHANISM: the imitation is downstream of the real thing and lags it. Element none.
5The Feeding-Tell1non-ordinarythe shadow, drawing off the panelthe panel dims, twice, before anything else happensanynoneLORE GROUND: BE_0010's counter -- 'the feeding-tell telegraphs TWICE before consequence'. MECHANISM: the encounter announces every cost two beats early, by design and by row. Element none. The row guarantees the double telegraph. This kit does not tighten it.
6The Dimming1non-ordinarythe main panel, losing registera figure that was legible is no longer legiblecovernoneLORE GROUND: EG_0147's own name -- The Dimming Main Panel and its Sickness-Shadow Encroachment. MECHANISM: the loss is the stake; cover means putting the reader's own body and light between the shadow and the surface. Element none.THE ONLY THING AT RISK IN THIS ENCOUNTER IS THE PANEL, and it is never damaged by the player -- see the care read.
7The Role-Title1non-ordinarythe revered echo, answering to what it is rather than to whothe echo responds to a title and not to a nameanynoneLORE GROUND: BE_0010's own row text -- 'the revered echo takes a ROLE-TITLE, NEVER A PERSONAL NAME'. MECHANISM: naming is how everything else in this game binds, and here it is forbidden, so the protocol proceeds by role. Element none.A care constraint authored as a mechanic rather than as an omission.
8The Inner Heat2non-ordinarythe reader's own body, under a held perceptionthe heat rises and the perception is still requiredtrigger_interruptnoneLORE GROUND: BE_0010 composure_nodes = vril_management=inner_heat_boil, and the protocol's second step. MECHANISM: the vril-management layer arrives WHILE the perception hold continues, which is what 'stack-hold' means. Element none.PHASE-SPECIFIC (B5). The first true simultaneity in the encounter.
9The Rising Boil2non-ordinarythe same heat, unmanagedthe heat stops rising in steps and starts rising continuouslyneutralizenoneLORE GROUND: same composure node on BE_0010. MECHANISM: mismanagement compounds rather than damages. Element none.PHASE-SPECIFIC.
10The Slipping Read2non-ordinaryphase 1's perception, decaying under the new loada reading you had settled starts driftingweak_pointnoneLORE GROUND: BE_0010's 'each layered onto the HELD previous step'. MECHANISM: the earlier step is not banked -- it is HELD, and this is the ability that makes that literal. Element none.PHASE-SPECIFIC, and the clearest expression of the stack-hold in the whole kit.
11The Shadow's Second Position2non-ordinarythe //gauwasi-shadow, moved along the panelthe encroachment is on a part of the surface it has not touchedcovernoneLORE GROUND: BE_0010 display_name -- 'the //gauwasi, the dead who shoot sickness' -- the tradition's own sickness-arrow dead. MECHANISM: it works the panel positionally. Element none.PHASE-SPECIFIC.
12The Cold Draw2non-ordinarythe shadow, taking from the reader instead of the panelyour own reserve drops while the panel holds steadyneutralizenoneLORE GROUND: the //gauwasi account carried on BE_0010 target_type. MECHANISM: it can take from a person, and this is the moment the encounter stops being purely about the wall. Element none.PHASE-SPECIFIC.
13The Doubled Feeding-Tell2non-ordinarytwo dimmings at once, on different panelstwo surfaces dim twice, out of phase with each otheranynoneLORE GROUND: BE_0010's double-telegraph guarantee, applied to two targets. MECHANISM: the guarantee is per-tell, so two tells means two double-telegraphs and the problem is attention, not reaction. Element none.PHASE-SPECIFIC, and PATTERN COUNTER: the read is the phase relationship between two sequences.
14The Violent Impulse3non-ordinarythe reader's own handsthe correct move, offered, and it is to strike the paneltrigger_interruptnoneLORE GROUND: BE_0010 composure_nodes = environmental=violent_impulse_restraint, the protocol's third step. MECHANISM: the encounter's hardest input is NOT acting, and the interrupt is the refusal held through a window. Element none.PHASE-SPECIFIC. The restraint layer, and the reason care_tier = high.
15The Reasonable Reason3non-ordinarythe impulse, supplying a justificationa good argument for damaging the surfaceneutralizenoneLORE GROUND: the same restraint node on BE_0010. MECHANISM: the impulse is not blind -- it reasons, which is what makes it a tier-5 opponent rather than a status effect. Element none.PHASE-SPECIFIC.
16The Companion's Hand3non-ordinarysomeone else, reaching for the panelan ally moves toward the surfacetrigger_interruptnoneLORE GROUND: BE_0010 character_engagement_node = phase=P3;verb=weigh;integrity_routed=true. MECHANISM: the restraint step is not only the player's, and stopping someone else is a different and harder input. Element none.PHASE-SPECIFIC.
17The Third Layer's Cost3non-ordinaryall three holds at oncethe heat, the read and the refusal all demand at the same beatweak_pointnoneLORE GROUND: BE_0010's stack-hold structure. MECHANISM: the weak point is scheduling -- the three demands are not simultaneous every cycle, and finding the beat where two are slack is the skill. Element none.PHASE-SPECIFIC.
18The Shadow Presses the Register3non-ordinarythe encroachment reaching the oldest marksthe serpent-mark register starts losing legibilitycovernoneLORE GROUND: EG_0149 The Oldest Serpent-Mark Register, hard_blocked, and BE_0010's threads = T13;T01;T12. MECHANISM: the encounter escalates by threatening MORE of the site, never by threatening the player harder. Element none.PHASE-SPECIFIC.
19The Held Stack3non-ordinarythe three steps, held together for a full cyclenothing slips for one complete rotationanynoneLORE GROUND: BE_0010's 'escalating stack of held steps'. MECHANISM: the transition to purgation is EARNED by a clean cycle rather than triggered by a meter. Element none.PHASE-SPECIFIC. The phase gate, and it is a performance.
20The Drive-Back4non-ordinarythe reader, pushing the shadow off the surfacethe shadow gives ground on the panelanynoneLORE GROUND: BE_0010 composure_nodes = environmental=gauwasi_driveback, the protocol's fourth step. MECHANISM: purgation is a push, not a strike; the panel is never touched. Element none.PHASE-SPECIFIC.
21The Shadow's Return4non-ordinarythe encroachment, retaking groundthe surface you cleared dims again behind youcovernoneLORE GROUND: BE_0010's same driveback node. MECHANISM: purgation is not monotonic and holding the cleared ground is part of it. Element none.PHASE-SPECIFIC.
22The Sickness-Arrow4non-ordinarythe //gauwasi, shootingthe cold arrives at a point rather than across a surfacedodge_onlynoneLORE GROUND: BE_0010 display_name -- 'the dead who shoot sickness', the tradition's own account of the //gauwasi. MECHANISM: it is an arrow of illness, so it is dodged rather than blocked, and it is the only ability in the kit that is aimed. Element none -- the tradition names sickness, not an element, and supplying one would be invention.PHASE-SPECIFIC. DAMAGE IS STILL IMPOSSIBLE: a hit costs a held step, not health.
23The Four Demands4non-ordinaryall four layers at oncethe read, the heat, the refusal and the push all move on the same beatweak_pointnoneLORE GROUND: BE_0010's full stack. MECHANISM: the apex of the encounter, and the weak point is still scheduling rather than a target. Element none.PHASE-SPECIFIC.
24The Withdrawal Clock4non-ordinarythe shadow, spending itself to hold groundits returns get shorter and its reach gets shorter with themanynoneLORE GROUND: BE_0010 -- 'damage impossible by design'. MECHANISM: the ENRAGE obligation expressed as MHM-G6's Withdrawal clock and INVERTED: the longer the protocol is held correctly, the less the shadow has. There is no enrage that threatens the player because there is nothing it could threaten them with. Element none.PHASE-SPECIFIC. B5's enrage obligation, honestly re-expressed for a damage-impossible fight.
25The Panel Answers4non-ordinarythe surface itself, returning legibilitya figure that was lost comes backanynoneLORE GROUND: BE_0010 win_condition = PERCEIVE;PURGE. MECHANISM: the win readout is the site recovering. Element none.PHASE-SPECIFIC. The only progress bar the encounter has, and it is diegetic.
26The Role-Title Held4non-ordinarythe echo, addressed correctly through the whole purgationthe echo stays present and stays unnamedneutralizenoneLORE GROUND: BE_0010's own constraint -- role-title, never a personal name. MECHANISM: the constraint holds through the hardest phase, and slipping into a name is a failure of the protocol rather than of the fight. Element none.PHASE-SPECIFIC.
27The Last Encroachment4non-ordinarythe shadow's final position, at the panel's edgeit holds one corner and stops movingcovernoneLORE GROUND: the driveback node on BE_0010. MECHANISM: the end is a hold rather than a kill. Element none.PHASE-SPECIFIC.
28The Clean Wall4non-ordinarythe panel, wholethe dimming stopsanynoneLORE GROUND: BE_0010 win_condition = PERCEIVE;PURGE, care_tier = high. MECHANISM: nothing died, nothing broke, and a wall that was being lost is not being lost. Element none.PHASE-SPECIFIC. The end.

ELEVATED, AND NOT ELEMENTAL BY DEFAULT (KIT_SCALING_TABLE 3.1b). 28 of the 28 moves

above are non-ordinary and each names its element family, its lore ground and its

mechanism. The rest are a body doing physical things, and they are marked physical rather

than dressed up. An elevated kit is one that CONTAINS the non-ordinary; it is not one in

which everything glows.

turf and relocation (MHM-G8, MHM-G9)

IT ENTERS as an encroachment already in progress. IT RELOCATES along the panel and never away from it. IT LEAVES driven back. WHAT IT DOES TO THE ARENA: it is TAKING the arena, slowly, and that is the entire stake -- the only thing this encounter can lose is a wall.

the care read

care_tier = high, and the row's own text carries the constraints this kit implements. THE REVERED ECHO TAKES A ROLE-TITLE AND NEVER A PERSONAL NAME -- abilities 7 and 26 make that a mechanic rather than an omission, and slipping into a name is a protocol failure. THE SHADOW IS THE TRADITION'S OWN SICKNESS-ARROW DEAD, the //gauwasi, rendered as the tradition describes them and not as a monster. DAMAGE IS IMPOSSIBLE BY DESIGN and the kit holds it: there is no attack, no health bar, no kill, and the one aimed ability (22) costs a held step rather than health. THE PANEL IS NEVER TOUCHED -- ability 14 offers the player the strike precisely so the game can make refusing it the skill. The entoptic material is REFERENCED AND NEVER REPRODUCED per EG_0146's own note. HL_0121 and the full stack on EG_0147 bind.

difficulty-mode expression

This kit is authored ONCE, at Fading. The five modulators of KIT_SCALING_TABLE section 4

express it across the ladder: active_ability_set grows upward through reserved follow-ups

on roots the player already learned, window_class tightens, answer_tree_depth prunes

toward the single true answer, hazard_concurrency rises with the arena rows above, and

phase_overlap interleaves the phase cycles. No second kit exists and no number here changes

with the tier.
