CANON SUBORDINATION — this document is PROPOSAL-TIER: it serves canon and never outranks it.
The canon: the CVD · the T1 foundation docs · the T0 registries (registries/) · the spine
(docs/spine/CH_*.md) · the region pages (_source/02_Tier_2_Region_Pages/). Authority order:docs/DOC_MAP.md§ 0.
Canon served (structural — the registries this kit's canon rows live in, plus its chapter's spine node):

READ THAT CANON FIRST — open it and derive from it before you build anything from this document.
If this document disagrees with canon, CANON WINS and this document is the defect — fix the
document, never the canon. Nothing here is applied until it is ratified into canon.
PROPOSAL-TIER. This kit serves canon and never outranks it. It writes no registry row.
The law it obeys: docs/proposals/combat/KIT_SCALING_TABLE.md. The intelligence scale:
docs/proposals/combat/INTELLIGENCE_TIERS.md. The body it fights with is the bestiary
lane's: docs/proposals/bestiary/BESTIARY_ELEVATION_DOCTRINE.md and its sheets. This file
describes the FIGHT; it never restates the BODY. Authors no magnitude -- no damage, no
health, no timing, no coefficient. Those are Phase-5M's behind the tuning firewall.

Silhouette read. Nothing visible. A pressure on a doorway, and a scroll that is not finished.
Opener (MHM-G10, the cheap lesson first). THE FIRST PRESSURE -- the household's lamp leans, once, toward the inner room, with no draught. Free, and it starts the only clock that matters: the scroll is unfinished and the night is long.
| phase | name | what it PUSHES (nothing pops) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | the night-pressure | the ward is incomplete and the debtera is working. The player decodes and holds; there is nothing to strike. |
| 2 | the binding-off | BE_0009_S3's evolve-not-swap clause: it DEEPENS THE PRESSURE AND THE CIPHER rather than adding attacks. Same two problems, harder, while the scroll completes. |
| # | ability | phase | kind | body origin | tell shape | counter | element | lore ground + mechanism | note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | The First Pressure | 1 | non-ordinary | the doorway of the inner room | the lamp leans with no draught | any | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0009_S3 target_type = folklore_malevolent_being -- Werzelya, the child-slaying demon the Ethiopian protective scroll (ketab) is written against, INSCRIPTION-DEFEATED per the row's own engagement_modes_object. MECHANISM: the demon acts through pressure on a threshold and is answered by writing; element none because the tradition's account is of names and wards, not of elements. | The opener, and it never touches anyone. |
| 2 | The Unfinished Scroll | 1 | physical | the debtera's own work in progress | the parchment has blank space where names should be | any | -- | -- | PHYSICAL. It is a person writing, and the fight's real health bar is how much of it is done. |
| 3 | The Wrong Name | 1 | non-ordinary | the ward answering to an incorrect divine name | the pressure eases slightly and then returns stronger | neutralize | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0009_S3's own counter -- 'read the tradition's own iconography to inscribe the correct divine names'. MECHANISM: an incorrect name buys a moment and costs the scroll a line; element none. | The failure that looks like progress, and it is the same shape as BE_0006_S1's -- the chapter pair is deliberate. |
| 4 | The Iconographic Tell | 1 | non-ordinary | the scroll's own painted register | one figure in the border is drawn facing the wrong way | weak_point | none | LORE GROUND: same counter on BE_0009_S3 -- the tradition's OWN iconography is the key. MECHANISM: the scroll's images encode which names apply; the named weak point is a reading, not a target. Element none. | |
| 5 | The Cold at the Threshold | 1 | non-ordinary | the doorway itself | the air at the door is colder than the air in either room | cover | Ice | LORE GROUND: BE_0009_S3 -- 'the demon's night-pressure on the cradle'. MECHANISM: the pressure has a temperature and it is the only physical readout the encounter gives; Ice because the carrier is cold and nothing else -- the smallest honest family rather than an inflated one. | |
| 6 | The Household's Watch | 1 | physical | the mourning household, awake | someone in the house stops being able to keep their eyes open | trigger_interrupt | -- | -- | PHYSICAL. The interrupt is spelling them, and it costs the player their own decoding time. |
| 7 | The Deepening Cipher | 1 | non-ordinary | the scroll's text, resisting | a passage that decoded cleanly stops making sense | neutralize | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0009_S3's evolve-not-swap clause -- 'deepens the pressure AND THE CIPHER'. MECHANISM: the demon works against the writing as much as against the room. Element none. | |
| 8 | The Sustained Pressure | 2 | non-ordinary | the threshold, held under weight | the lamp stops righting itself between leans | cover | none | LORE GROUND: same evolve-not-swap clause on BE_0009_S3. MECHANISM: continuous rather than pulsed. Element none. | |
| 9 | The Debtera's Hand | 2 | physical | the writer, working faster than is safe | the letters get worse | any | -- | -- | PHYSICAL, and a real cost: a rushed name is a wrong name, and ability 3 is waiting. |
| 10 | The Named Approach | 2 | non-ordinary | the demon, being addressed correctly for the first time | the pressure stops moving around the door and holds one point | weak_point | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0009_S3 win_condition = PURGE;PERCEIVE, and the inscription-defeat framing. MECHANISM: naming localises it, which is what makes the last line of the scroll possible. Element none. | |
| 11 | The Held Threshold | 2 | physical | the debtera and the player at the door | the door frame takes load that nothing is touching | trigger_interrupt | -- | -- | The row's second counter -- 'hold the warded threshold with the debtera until the scroll is finished'. composure_nodes = environmental=debtera_ward_hold. |
| 12 | The Ward Completes | 2 | non-ordinary | the finished scroll, hung | the lamp stands straight and stays straight | any | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0009_S3 win_condition = PURGE;PERCEIVE, has_nonkill_path = TRUE, and the row's character_engagement_node = phase=P2;verb=declare. MECHANISM: the demon is warded OFF, not killed -- the tradition's own outcome. Element none. | threads = T06;T17. |
ELEVATED, AND NOT ELEMENTAL BY DEFAULT (KIT_SCALING_TABLE 3.1b). 8 of the 12 moves
above are non-ordinary and each names its element family, its lore ground and its
mechanism. The rest are a body doing physical things, and they are marked physical rather
than dressed up. An elevated kit is one that CONTAINS the non-ordinary; it is not one in
which everything glows.

|---|---|---|---|
| the unfinished scroll (the fight's real bar) | every completed section permanently removes one of the demon's pressures: The First Pressure (1), The Cold at the Threshold (5) and The Sustained Pressure (8) go out in that order | the lamp's lean gets smaller with each name written, which is the clearest possible progress readout and it is diegetic | nothing harvested. The scroll stays with the household -- it is theirs, it was made for them, and the player never carries it away |
| the demon's mobility around the threshold | The Named Approach (10) fixes it in one place, which removes its ability to test the door's other sides | the pressure stops moving | nothing extracted |

IT ENTERS at the threshold and NEVER CROSSES IT. IT RELOCATES around the door's outside. IT LEAVES warded off. WHAT IT DOES TO THE ARENA: it makes one doorway the entire map.
THE CVD 17 HARD LINE GOVERNS THIS ENCOUNTER AND IT IS ABSOLUTE: NO CHILD HARM. Werzelya is the demon the Ethiopian protective scroll is WRITTEN AGAINST, and this encounter stages the writing of that scroll. THE CHILD IS NEVER HARMED, NEVER THREATENED ON SCREEN, NEVER SHOWN IN DISTRESS, AND NEVER A FAILURE-STATE CASUALTY. There is no ability in this kit that reaches past the threshold, no difficulty setting that changes that, and the fail state is that the night is longer and the scroll takes more out of the debtera -- never that anything happens to the cradle. The demon is never depicted, never given a body, and never described; it is a pressure on a door. The debtera is a respected practitioner and an ALLY, the scroll is a real and effective object of the tradition, and it stays with the household. HL_0121, HL_0002, HL_0003, HL_0004 and HL_0005 all bind through EG_0124, which carries the heaviest care stack in the slice for exactly this reason.
This kit is authored ONCE, at Fading. The five modulators of KIT_SCALING_TABLE section 4
express it across the ladder: active_ability_set grows upward through reserved follow-ups
on roots the player already learned, window_class tightens, answer_tree_depth prunes
toward the single true answer, hazard_concurrency rises with the arena rows above, and
phase_overlap interleaves the phase cycles. No second kit exists and no number here changes
with the tier.
