CANON SUBORDINATION — this document is PROPOSAL-TIER: it serves canon and never outranks it.
The canon: the CVD · the T1 foundation docs · the T0 registries (registries/) · the spine
(docs/spine/CH_*.md) · the region pages (_source/02_Tier_2_Region_Pages/). Authority order:docs/DOC_MAP.md§ 0.
Canon served (structural — the registries this kit's canon rows live in, plus its chapter's spine node):
T0_Boss_Encounter_Registry·docs/spine/CH_08.md
READ THAT CANON FIRST — open it and derive from it before you build anything from this document.
If this document disagrees with canon, CANON WINS and this document is the defect — fix the
document, never the canon. Nothing here is applied until it is ratified into canon.
PROPOSAL-TIER. This kit serves canon and never outranks it. It writes no registry row.
The law it obeys: docs/proposals/combat/KIT_SCALING_TABLE.md. The intelligence scale:
docs/proposals/combat/INTELLIGENCE_TIERS.md. The body it fights with is the bestiary
lane's: docs/proposals/bestiary/BESTIARY_ELEVATION_DOCTRINE.md and its sheets. This file
describes the FIGHT; it never restates the BODY. Authors no magnitude -- no damage, no
health, no timing, no coefficient. Those are Phase-5M's behind the tuning firewall.

Silhouette read. Men with tools at a treeline they have been told not to cross.
Opener (MHM-G10, the cheap lesson first). THE MARKED APPROACH -- one intruder sets a marker at the grove's edge and steps back. Nothing happens. Free, and it names the fight: they are surveying, and the encounter is about the EDGE.
| phase | name | what it PUSHES (nothing pops) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | the incursion | they push the margin. The player fights at the boundary, never inside. |
| 2 | the rout | BE_0008_S2's evolve-not-swap clause: TIGHTER INCURSION ON THE SAME GRAMMAR, once the grove's own paths are turned against them. |
| # | ability | phase | body origin | tell shape | counter | note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | The Marked Approach | 1 | one man and a surveyor's stake | a marker is set and nobody advances | any | |
| 2 | The Cutting Line | 1 | axes at the margin's outer trees | they begin at the edge rather than the centre | cover | |
| 3 | Machete Rush | 1 | shoulder and both hands on a heavy blade | the blade goes above the shoulder instead of across the body | dodge_only | |
| 4 | The Overseer's Call | 1 | a foreman's voice, redirecting the crew | two men change task at once | neutralize | The coordination is the boss. Neutralize is reaching the foreman or breaking his sightline. |
| 5 | Rifle Rest | 1 | one man with a firearm, braced on a stump | he stops moving entirely | cover | AGG-G19: the ranged member does not close, which is what makes the treeline geometry matter. |
| 6 | The Threat to the Elders | 1 | the crew turning toward the people who warned them | they stop looking at the trees | trigger_interrupt | The row's second counter -- 'route a warned elder's people to safety to collapse the intruders' leverage'. The interrupt is the routing, and it is secondary_verb = protect. |
| 7 | The Boundary Push | 1 | the whole crew, one pace past the margin | a man's foot crosses the edge | any | PATTERN COUNTER: they advance in increments and no single step is the violation. The read is the accumulation. |
| 8 | The Tightened Line | 2 | the same cutting line, closer together | the crew works within arm's reach of each other | cover | MHM-G10's variant law at crew scale: the same formation, denser. |
| 9 | The Grove's Paths | 2 | the kaya's own approach ways, used against them | the crew takes a path that does not go where they think | any | The row's first counter -- 'use the kaya's cover to break the incursion line'. The paths are the elders' knowledge, lent to the player. |
| 10 | The Cornered Crew | 2 | men who have realised where they are | they stop working and start facing outward | parry_only | |
| 11 | The Foreman's Retreat | 2 | the coordinating body, leaving first | the calls stop before the crew does | any | |
| 12 | The Rout | 2 | the incursion collapsing outward | the markers come up | any | win_condition = REDUCE. The grove is not entered, and the win is that nobody did. |
CLASS PURITY (tooth T5). Every move above is physical. No element family, no vril
mechanism, no non-ordinary affordance appears in this kit, because this being's own canon
row carries no hollow row, no lore home and nothing that elevates it. It is dangerous the
way the real animal or the real person is dangerous, engineered up until it reads at the
shipped combat camera. TIMID here would mean BORING-PHYSICAL, never insufficiently magical.
| part | moveset subtraction on break | legibility gain | material the economy wants |
|---|---|---|---|
| the survey markers | The Marked Approach (1) and The Boundary Push (7) lose their reference -- the crew no longer knows where it was told to cut | the incursion stops being a line and becomes a group of men in a forest | the survey record, which names who sent them -- the chapter's Thread-5 evidence |
| the foreman's coordination | The Overseer's Call (4), The Tightened Line (8) and The Cornered Crew (10)'s discipline all degrade | the crew's tasks stop changing together | nothing harvested |

The margin is the arena and it is never cut, burned or damaged -- by either side, on any difficulty. Its COVER is consumed; its substance is not. This is the single most protected row any fight in the slice is staged on.EG_0109 Interdicted Mijikenda Kaya Interior -- CARE-BOUND, REFERENCED AND NEVER ENTERED: hard_blocked, enemy_usable = FALSE, attack_verbs = none. The interior is not a place the encounter can reach. There is no ability, no rout path and no failure state that puts anyone inside it.EG_0106 Island Shore Path and Coral-Sand Landing Strand -- BOTH: transient_combat. | posture | the crew stops working with their backs to the trees and starts working facing them |

THEY ENTER from the shore path with tools. THEY RELOCATE along the margin, testing for a soft edge. THEY LEAVE routed. WHAT THEY DO TO THE ARENA: they try to change it, and the encounter's win condition is that they do not.
care_tier = elevated, target_type = intruder. THE KAYA INTERIOR IS NEVER ENTERED BY ANYONE, INCLUDING THE PLAYER. The Mijikenda kaya are living sacred forests under active custodianship; EG_0109 is interdicted and this kit contains no path into it. The elders are not victims to be rescued -- they warned the intruders first, they hold the knowledge of the paths, and ability 9 is them lending it. The fight happens at the margin because that is where a fight may happen. MUNDANE: these are men with axes and a rifle.
This kit is authored ONCE, at Fading. The five modulators of KIT_SCALING_TABLE section 4
express it across the ladder: active_ability_set grows upward through reserved follow-ups
on roots the player already learned, window_class tightens, answer_tree_depth prunes
toward the single true answer, hazard_concurrency rises with the arena rows above, and
phase_overlap interleaves the phase cycles. No second kit exists and no number here changes
with the tier.
