CANON SUBORDINATION — this document is PROPOSAL-TIER: it serves canon and never outranks it.
The canon: the CVD · the T1 foundation docs · the T0 registries (registries/) · the spine
(docs/spine/CH_*.md) · the region pages (_source/02_Tier_2_Region_Pages/). Authority order:docs/DOC_MAP.md§ 0.
Canon served (structural — the registries this kit's canon rows live in, plus its chapter's spine node):

READ THAT CANON FIRST — open it and derive from it before you build anything from this document.
If this document disagrees with canon, CANON WINS and this document is the defect — fix the
document, never the canon. Nothing here is applied until it is ratified into canon.
PROPOSAL-TIER. This kit serves canon and never outranks it. It writes no registry row.
The law it obeys: docs/proposals/combat/KIT_SCALING_TABLE.md. The intelligence scale:
docs/proposals/combat/INTELLIGENCE_TIERS.md. The body it fights with is the bestiary
lane's: docs/proposals/bestiary/BESTIARY_ELEVATION_DOCTRINE.md and its sheets. This file
describes the FIGHT; it never restates the BODY. Authors no magnitude -- no damage, no
health, no timing, no coefficient. Those are Phase-5M's behind the tuning firewall.

Silhouette read. The gate tower's guardian, and it is the size the carving says it is.
Opener (MHM-G10, the cheap lesson first). THE WEIGHT -- standing in the gopuram's passage becomes physically heavier, and nothing else happens. Free. The fight is a pressure, not an exchange.
| phase | name | what it PUSHES (nothing pops) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | barred | the threshold refuses. Bearing, steadiness and endurance. |
| 2 | narrowing | BE_0007_S2's evolve-not-swap clause: it NARROWS THE THRESHOLD WINDOW. The same pressure, less room. |
| # | ability | phase | kind | body origin | tell shape | counter | element | lore ground + mechanism | note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | The Weight | 1 | non-ordinary | the gopuram passage itself | the air in the passage is heavier than the air outside it | any | Earth | LORE GROUND: BE_0007_S2 target_type = guardian_trial at EG_0076, the Gopuram Gate Tower and Dvarapala Threshold. MECHANISM: a dvarapala is a threshold guardian and the threshold is what it guards WITH; Earth because the carrier is the tower's own mass. | composure_nodes = environmental=threshold_weight_endure. |
| 2 | The Mace Set | 1 | physical | the guardian's weapon, planted across the passage | the mace butt strikes the floor once | cover | -- | -- | |
| 3 | Bearing Read | 1 | non-ordinary | the threshold, sensing the entry | the weight changes with your own state rather than your position | neutralize | Earth | LORE GROUND: BE_0007_S2's counter -- 'attune the protagonist's own bearing/steadiness to the precinct (a Neophyte read)'. MECHANISM: the guardian reads state; the read is Neophyte tier and never resolves to a signature. Element Earth. | composure_nodes = vril_management=bearing_attune. |
| 4 | The Passage Length | 1 | physical | the gopuram's own depth | the far end of the passage is further than it was | any | -- | -- | |
| 5 | Guardian Turn | 1 | physical | the figure rotating to face the entrant | the stone's shadow moves against the light | dodge_only | -- | -- | |
| 6 | The Refused Entry | 1 | non-ordinary | the threshold, closing on an unsteady bearing | the weight increases as you advance rather than as you delay | neutralize | Earth | LORE GROUND: BE_0007_S2 phase_breakdown_object -- 'the threshold bars an unworthy entry'. MECHANISM: the resistance is proportional to the mismatch, which makes forcing it the wrong answer by construction. Element Earth. | |
| 7 | The Companion Guardian | 1 | physical | the second dvarapala, on the opposite jamb | the pressure comes from both sides at once | cover | -- | -- | They are always a pair, and the encounter uses it. |
| 8 | The Stone Sweep | 1 | physical | the mace, across the passage's width | the mace head drops below the door line | dodge_only | -- | -- | |
| 9 | The Narrowed Threshold | 2 | non-ordinary | the passage's tolerance, shrinking | the band of the passage where the weight is bearable is one pace wide | neutralize | Earth | LORE GROUND: BE_0007_S2's evolve-not-swap clause -- 'narrows the threshold window'. MECHANISM: same read, less margin. Element Earth. | |
| 10 | Double Sweep | 2 | physical | both guardians' maces, alternating | the mace head drops below the door line TWICE, from opposite sides | dodge_only | -- | -- | |
| 11 | The Held Weight | 2 | physical | the passage's pressure, sustained rather than pulsed | the heaviness stops coming in waves | trigger_interrupt | -- | -- | |
| 12 | The Court Opens | 2 | non-ordinary | the threshold, admitting the entry | the passage's far end is where it should be | any | Earth | LORE GROUND: BE_0007_S2 win_condition = PURGE, has_nonkill_path = TRUE. MECHANISM: nothing is destroyed; an entry is granted. Element Earth. | threads = T10. |
ELEVATED, AND NOT ELEMENTAL BY DEFAULT (KIT_SCALING_TABLE 3.1b). 5 of the 12 moves
above are non-ordinary and each names its element family, its lore ground and its
mechanism. The rest are a body doing physical things, and they are marked physical rather
than dressed up. An elevated kit is one that CONTAINS the non-ordinary; it is not one in
which everything glows.
| part | moveset subtraction on break | legibility gain | material the economy wants |
|---|---|---|---|
| the near guardian's mace | The Mace Set (2), The Stone Sweep (8) and half of Double Sweep (10) leave the moveset | one side of the passage stops being swept, which halves the geometry problem | NOTHING HARVESTED -- a temple guardian figure, and see the care read |
| the passage's held weight | The Held Weight (11) and The Weight (1) resolve once the bearing is steady through a full pulse cycle | the passage stops being heavier than the courtyard | nothing extracted |

The gate tower IS the encounter and is never damaged, never climbed, never breached. The street the player approaches along, and the reason the passage has a queue behind it.| channel | what the player sees or hears |
|---|---|
| posture | both guardian figures stop facing outward and face each other across the passage |
| breath | none for stone. The channel is the PASSAGE: the draught through the gopuram stops |
| vocal | the temple's own bell, heard from inside the passage, arrives late |
| opener | The Weight is retired; The Narrowed Threshold becomes the opener |
IT DOES NOT ENTER OR LEAVE. It is the gate. WHAT IT DOES TO THE ARENA: it is the arena, and there is nothing else in it -- no cover, no height, no object. A pressure and a width.
care_tier = standard, target_type = guardian_trial, has_nonkill_path = TRUE, win_condition = PURGE. Meenakshi and Brihadeeswarar are living temples; the dvarapala are their guardians and not monsters placed on them. Nothing is destroyed, defaced or taken -- the mace 'break' is a state the encounter reverses. The player who fails does not enter, and may return. HL_0001, HL_0005 and HL_0007 bind.
This kit is authored ONCE, at Fading. The five modulators of KIT_SCALING_TABLE section 4
express it across the ladder: active_ability_set grows upward through reserved follow-ups
on roots the player already learned, window_class tightens, answer_tree_depth prunes
toward the single true answer, hazard_concurrency rises with the arena rows above, and
phase_overlap interleaves the phase cycles. No second kit exists and no number here changes
with the tier.
