CANON SUBORDINATION — this document is PROPOSAL-TIER: it serves canon and never outranks it.
The canon: the CVD · the T1 foundation docs · the T0 registries (registries/) · the spine
(docs/spine/CH_*.md) · the region pages (_source/02_Tier_2_Region_Pages/). Authority order:docs/DOC_MAP.md§ 0.
Canon served (structural — the registries this kit's canon rows live in, plus its chapter's spine node):

READ THAT CANON FIRST — open it and derive from it before you build anything from this document.
If this document disagrees with canon, CANON WINS and this document is the defect — fix the
document, never the canon. Nothing here is applied until it is ratified into canon.
PROPOSAL-TIER. This kit serves canon and never outranks it. It writes no registry row.
The law it obeys: docs/proposals/combat/KIT_SCALING_TABLE.md. The intelligence scale:
docs/proposals/combat/INTELLIGENCE_TIERS.md. The body it fights with is the bestiary
lane's: docs/proposals/bestiary/BESTIARY_ELEVATION_DOCTRINE.md and its sheets. This file
describes the FIGHT; it never restates the BODY. Authors no magnitude -- no damage, no
health, no timing, no coefficient. Those are Phase-5M's behind the tuning firewall.

Silhouette read. A polished wall, and you in it, wrong.
Opener (MHM-G10, the cheap lesson first). THE FIRST REFLECTION -- the wall returns the player accurately. Nothing happens. It is free, and it is the baseline every distortion below is measured against.
| phase | name | what it PUSHES (nothing pops) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | the distortions | flattering and fearful returns, alternating. Reading which is which is the fight. |
| 2 | the multiplication | BE_0006_S2's evolve-not-swap clause: it MULTIPLIES THE DISTORTIONS rather than adding attacks. Same two kinds, more of them, simultaneously. |
| # | ability | phase | kind | body origin | tell shape | counter | element | lore ground + mechanism | note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | The First Reflection | 1 | non-ordinary | the polished wall face | the wall returns you accurately | any | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0006_S2 target_type = perception_trial at EG_0070, the plastered mirror wall whose own cell reads ambient_state_gift = medium:reflective. MECHANISM: the surface returns state rather than light; element none because a reflection of the self is not an elemental effect and inventing one would be padding. | The control. Without it, no distortion is readable. |
| 2 | The Flattering Return | 1 | non-ordinary | the wall, returning a better version | the reflection is subtly more than you are | neutralize | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0006_S2 phase_breakdown_object -- 'flattering and fearful distortions'. MECHANISM: the flattering distortion is the dangerous one because accepting it costs nothing in the moment. Element none. | The row's counter -- 'match the reflection against the steady truth of the self'. |
| 3 | The Fearful Return | 1 | non-ordinary | the wall, returning a worse version | the reflection is subtly less than you are | neutralize | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0006_S2's same phase_breakdown_object. MECHANISM: the mirrored failure of ability 2, and the two are answered by the same steadiness. Element none. | |
| 4 | The Pull | 1 | physical | the player's own footing on the gallery ledge | your weight shifts toward the wall without you moving it | trigger_interrupt | -- | -- | PHYSICAL: it is a narrow ledge and leaning is a real problem. The row's second counter -- 'steady against the distortion's pull'. |
| 5 | The Graffiti Voice | 1 | non-ordinary | the wall's own inscribed record, read back | a verse appears in the reflection that is not on the wall | weak_point | none | LORE GROUND: EG_0070's own name -- the Plastered Mirror Wall AND Graffiti Gallery -- and BE_0006_S2 threads = T13. MECHANISM: the wall carries a thousand years of visitors' verses, and the trial borrows their voices; a verse that is not physically there is the named weak point. Element none. | CARE: the historical graffiti is REFERENCED, never reproduced -- see the care read. |
| 6 | The Narrow Gallery | 1 | physical | the ledge's width | the gallery is narrower ahead than behind | cover | -- | -- | |
| 7 | The Held Truth | 1 | non-ordinary | the player's own steady state, matched against the return | the reflection and the self agree for one full beat | any | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0006_S2 win_condition = PERCEIVE, character_engagement_node = phase=P2;verb=witness. MECHANISM: the trial resolves on a held match, not on damage. Element none. | |
| 8 | The Multiplied Distortions | 2 | non-ordinary | the whole wall, returning several versions at once | there are more reflections than there are people on the ledge | neutralize | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0006_S2's evolve-not-swap clause -- 'multiplies the distortions rather than adding attacks'. MECHANISM: the same two kinds, in a crowd. Element none. | PATTERN COUNTER: the answer is which reflection has been consistent across the whole sequence. |
| 9 | The Composite | 2 | non-ordinary | one reflection assembled from several distortions | a single return that is flattering in one part and fearful in another | weak_point | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0006_S2's same evolve-not-swap clause. MECHANISM: the composite is internally inconsistent and that inconsistency is the weak point. Element none. | |
| 10 | The Deepening Pull | 2 | physical | the ledge and the height together | the drop below the gallery becomes the thing you are aware of | trigger_interrupt | -- | -- | |
| 11 | The Borrowed Face | 2 | non-ordinary | the wall returning someone else | the reflection is a person from the player's own record | neutralize | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0006_S2 threads = T13, and the trial's own self-directed framing. MECHANISM: the trial reaches for what the protagonist actually carries, which is why two players get different faces out of one authored ability. Element none. | The kit's one personal beat. |
| 12 | The Wall Clears | 2 | non-ordinary | the polished surface, returning nothing but what is there | the wall shows the gallery and the people on it and nothing else | any | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0006_S2 win_condition = PERCEIVE, has_nonkill_path = TRUE. MECHANISM: the trial ends by stopping. Element none. | Nothing is defeated. Nothing was ever there to defeat. |
ELEVATED, AND NOT ELEMENTAL BY DEFAULT (KIT_SCALING_TABLE 3.1b). 9 of the 12 moves
above are non-ordinary and each names its element family, its lore ground and its
mechanism. The rest are a body doing physical things, and they are marked physical rather
than dressed up. An elevated kit is one that CONTAINS the non-ordinary; it is not one in
which everything glows.
| part | moveset subtraction on break | legibility gain | material the economy wants |
|---|---|---|---|
| the composite reflection | The Composite (9) and The Multiplied Distortions (8) resolve once one inconsistency is named -- the wall can no longer assemble | the number of reflections drops and stays dropped | nothing harvested |
| the player's own footing | The Pull (4) and The Deepening Pull (10) stop mattering once the ledge is braced | the gallery stops being a height problem and becomes only a perception problem | nothing extracted |
EG_0070 Plastered Mirror Wall and Graffiti Gallery -- CARE-BOUND, GEOMETRY ONLY: hard_blocked, HL_0007, enemy_usable = FALSE, attack_verbs = none, ambient_state_gift = medium:reflective. The wall IS the encounter and it is never scratched, cut, written on or damaged. The trial consumes its reflectivity, which is an affordance rather than a resource.EG_0069 Sheltered Fresco Gallery Pocket -- CARE-BOUND, GEOMETRY ONLY: hard_blocked, HL_0007. The frescoes are referenced and never reproduced or touched; the pocket is the gallery's width.EG_0068 Granite Inselberg Ascent Face -- CARE-BOUND, GEOMETRY ONLY: hard_blocked, loaded_potential = gravitational. The height under the ledge is why ability 10 has weight.| channel | what the player sees or hears |
|---|---|
| posture | the reflections stop matching the player's posture and start holding one of their own |
| breath | none for the wall. The channel is the PLAYER's, returned: the reflection's breathing goes out of phase with theirs, which is the clearest tell in the kit |
| vocal | the gallery's echo returns a syllable later than it should |
| opener | The First Reflection is retired; The Multiplied Distortions becomes the opener |
IT DOES NOT ENTER, RELOCATE OR LEAVE. It is a wall. WHAT IT DOES TO THE ARENA: nothing -- and that absence is the design. This is the slice's purest perception encounter and it has no body, no damage and no terrain effect.
care_tier = standard, target_type = perception_trial, has_nonkill_path = TRUE. HL_0007 binds: Sigiriya's mirror wall carries roughly a millennium of visitors' verses and they are REFERENCED, NEVER REPRODUCED -- ability 5 returns a verse that is not physically on the wall precisely so no real inscription is quoted. Nothing is defaced, and the trial is against the self.
This kit is authored ONCE, at Fading. The five modulators of KIT_SCALING_TABLE section 4
express it across the ladder: active_ability_set grows upward through reserved follow-ups
on roots the player already learned, window_class tightens, answer_tree_depth prunes
toward the single true answer, hazard_concurrency rises with the arena rows above, and
phase_overlap interleaves the phase cycles. No second kit exists and no number here changes
with the tier.
