CANON SUBORDINATION — this document is PROPOSAL-TIER: it serves canon and never outranks it.
The canon: the CVD · the T1 foundation docs · the T0 registries (registries/) · the spine
(docs/spine/CH_*.md) · the region pages (_source/02_Tier_2_Region_Pages/). Authority order:docs/DOC_MAP.md§ 0.
Canon served (structural — the registries this kit's canon rows live in, plus its chapter's spine node):

READ THAT CANON FIRST — open it and derive from it before you build anything from this document.
If this document disagrees with canon, CANON WINS and this document is the defect — fix the
document, never the canon. Nothing here is applied until it is ratified into canon.
PROPOSAL-TIER. This kit serves canon and never outranks it. It writes no registry row.
The law it obeys: docs/proposals/combat/KIT_SCALING_TABLE.md. The intelligence scale:
docs/proposals/combat/INTELLIGENCE_TIERS.md. The body it fights with is the bestiary
lane's: docs/proposals/bestiary/BESTIARY_ELEVATION_DOCTRINE.md and its sheets. This file
describes the FIGHT; it never restates the BODY. Authors no magnitude -- no damage, no
health, no timing, no coefficient. Those are Phase-5M's behind the tuning firewall.

Silhouette read. A court official with a sanction, and behind him a sanctuary that has stopped agreeing with him.
Opener (MHM-G10, the cheap lesson first). THE ROUSED WARD -- one dvarapala on the causeway shifts its weight and stops you. No strike. It teaches that the temple's own guardians are awake, and that they are not awake for HIM either.
| phase | name | what it PUSHES (nothing pops) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | the ascent-and-baray trial | dvarapala, naga-balustrade and yaksha wards roused by the perverted sanctuary, plus the water problem underneath them. |
| 2 | the confrontation | BE_0005_S4's evolve-not-swap clause: it CALLS IN MORE TEMPLE WARDS AND COURT LEVERAGE ON THE SAME GRAMMAR. No new ward type, no new argument -- more of both. |
| # | ability | phase | kind | body origin | tell shape | counter | element | lore ground + mechanism | note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | The Roused Ward | 1 | non-ordinary | a dvarapala on the causeway | a guardian figure shifts weight and the causeway narrows | any | Earth | LORE GROUND: BE_0005_S4 phase_breakdown_object -- 'dvarapala/naga-balustrade/yaksha wards ROUSED BY THE PERVERTED SANCTUARY'. MECHANISM: the wards answer the sanctuary's condition, not the player's; Earth because the carriers are the worked stone of the causeway and its figures. | They are not his. That is the whole encounter. |
| 2 | Causeway Press | 1 | physical | the ward's mass across the narrow crossing | it sets both feet on the causeway's centre line | cover | -- | -- | |
| 3 | The Naga Balustrade | 1 | non-ordinary | the balustrade's length, along the approach | the carved rail's coil unwinds toward the water | dodge_only | Earth | LORE GROUND: BE_0005_S4's own list of roused ward types. MECHANISM: the balustrade IS a guardian in this architecture; Earth, the same worked-stone carrier. | |
| 4 | The Yaksha's Refusal | 1 | non-ordinary | a yaksha ward at the sanctuary door | the door's guardian faces INWARD instead of outward | neutralize | Earth | LORE GROUND: same roused-ward list on BE_0005_S4. MECHANISM: a ward that turns inward is guarding against what is already inside, and reading that is the encounter's first real information. Element Earth. | The most important tell in the fight and it is a statue's facing. |
| 5 | The Baray Level | 1 | physical | the reservoir's own water, held where it should not be | the fields below the barrage are dry and the reservoir is full | any | -- | -- | PHYSICAL, and the actual grievance. |
| 6 | Sluice Contest | 1 | physical | his men, at the barrage's gates | workers move to the sluices when you do | trigger_interrupt | -- | -- | The row's first counter -- 'restore the correct baray flow (solving the puzzle and serving the people at once)'. |
| 7 | The Sanctioned Cover | 1 | physical | his own authority, stated with a seal behind it | he produces a document rather than a weapon | neutralize | -- | -- | The row's second counter -- 'read the sanctuary inscriptions and the Bayon war-galleries to strip his sanctioned cover'. |
| 8 | Court Retainers | 1 | physical | his escort, on the terrace | they hold the stair rather than the ground | cover | -- | -- | |
| 9 | More Wards | 2 | non-ordinary | additional guardians along the whole approach | figures that were still on the way in are not still on the way out | cover | Earth | LORE GROUND: BE_0005_S4's evolve-not-swap clause -- 'calls in more temple wards and court leverage on the same grammar'. MECHANISM: the sanctuary's condition worsens as he presses, so the wards rouse further -- against both of you. Element Earth. | PATTERN COUNTER: the read is WHICH figures have moved since the approach, which is a memory problem across the level. |
| 10 | Court Leverage | 2 | physical | his standing, applied to the people in the room | someone who was helping you stops | neutralize | -- | -- | |
| 11 | The Inscription Answers | 2 | non-ordinary | the sanctuary's own record, read aloud | the carved text says something other than what he said it says | weak_point | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0005_S4's own counter -- 'read the sanctuary inscriptions and the Bayon war-galleries to strip his sanctioned cover' -- and threads = T13;T03. MECHANISM: the record is the weak point of a man whose whole armour is a claim about it. Element none: a text is not elemental. | The named weak point, and win_condition = EXPOSE;PURGE;REDUCE runs through it. |
| 12 | The Water Returns | 2 | physical | the barrage, opened to the fields | the reservoir level drops and the channels below run | any | -- | -- | PHYSICAL, and the win. has_nonkill_path = TRUE; character_engagement_node = phase=P2;verb=spare-or-kill;integrity_routed=true. |
ELEVATED, AND NOT ELEMENTAL BY DEFAULT (KIT_SCALING_TABLE 3.1b). 5 of the 12 moves
above are non-ordinary and each names its element family, its lore ground and its
mechanism. The rest are a body doing physical things, and they are marked physical rather
than dressed up. An elevated kit is one that CONTAINS the non-ordinary; it is not one in
which everything glows.
| part | moveset subtraction on break | legibility gain | material the economy wants |
|---|---|---|---|
| the sluice gear at the barrage | Sluice Contest (6) and The Baray Level (5) resolve -- the water problem ends and phase 2 opens | the fields below visibly wet, from the barrage outward, which is the clearest good thing the player does in the chapter | nothing harvested -- the works are the community's and are repaired, not taken |
| his sanction | The Sanctioned Cover (7) and Court Leverage (10) both leave the moveset | the retainers stop taking his instructions mid-fight | the stripped-cover evidence, a Thread-3 item |

HE ENTERS on the terrace with a sanction. HE RELOCATES upward, toward the sanctuary, because that is where his claim is strongest. HE LEAVES exposed. WHAT HE DOES TO THE ARENA: he has already done it -- the baray is held and the fields are dry, and the wards have been roused by it since before the player arrived.
care_tier = standard, target_type = corrupted_authority, has_nonkill_path = TRUE. THE TEMPLE IS NOT THE ANTAGONIST AND NEITHER IS THE DEVARAJA INSTITUTION AS SUCH -- the wards are roused AGAINST the perversion, which puts the sanctuary on the player's side. The antagonist is one official holding water back from fields, routed through the court structure that let him per CVD 17.1. Nothing in this fight damages a temple, a balustrade, an inscription or the hydraulic works; the win REPAIRS infrastructure. HL_0001 and HL_0007 hold through every environment row.
This kit is authored ONCE, at Fading. The five modulators of KIT_SCALING_TABLE section 4
express it across the ladder: active_ability_set grows upward through reserved follow-ups
on roots the player already learned, window_class tightens, answer_tree_depth prunes
toward the single true answer, hazard_concurrency rises with the arena rows above, and
phase_overlap interleaves the phase cycles. No second kit exists and no number here changes
with the tier.
