KIT_BE_0004_S3 -- The Barong-Rangda Balance-Trial -- holding the centre while the performance pulls

CANON SUBORDINATION — this document is PROPOSAL-TIER: it serves canon and never outranks it.
The canon: the CVD · the T1 foundation docs · the T0 registries (registries/) · the spine
(docs/spine/CH_*.md) · the region pages (_source/02_Tier_2_Region_Pages/). Authority order: docs/DOC_MAP.md § 0.
Canon served (structural — the registries this kit's canon rows live in, plus its chapter's spine node):
T0_Boss_Encounter_Registry · docs/spine/CH_04.md
READ THAT CANON FIRST — open it and derive from it before you build anything from this document.
If this document disagrees with canon, CANON WINS and this document is the defect — fix the
document, never the canon. Nothing here is applied until it is ratified into canon.
PROPOSAL-TIER. This kit serves canon and never outranks it. It writes no registry row.
The law it obeys: docs/proposals/combat/KIT_SCALING_TABLE.md. The intelligence scale:
docs/proposals/combat/INTELLIGENCE_TIERS.md. The body it fights with is the bestiary
lane's: docs/proposals/bestiary/BESTIARY_ELEVATION_DOCTRINE.md and its sheets. This file
describes the FIGHT; it never restates the BODY. Authors no magnitude -- no damage, no
health, no timing, no coefficient. Those are Phase-5M's behind the tuning firewall.

Silhouette read. Two masks, and the ground between them getting narrower.

Opener (MHM-G10, the cheap lesson first). THE FIRST PULL -- a single gentle draw toward one pole, announced a full bar ahead by the gamelan. It costs nothing to fail. It is the trial's whole grammar, delivered slow.

phases -- evolve, never swap

phasenamewhat it PUSHES (nothing pops)
1the first poleone direction, clearly announced, repeatedly. The player learns that the answer to a pull is its opposite and that the cue is musical.
2the swingBE_0004_S3's evolve-not-swap clause: it TIGHTENS THE SWING. Nothing new -- the same two poles, alternating faster, with the cue arriving closer to the pull.

1The First Pull1non-ordinarythe performance itself, drawing toward one polethe gamelan changes mode a full bar before anything movesneutralizenoneLORE GROUND: BE_0004_S3 target_type = ritual_trial, threads = T15;T06, and its own counter -- 'counter each pull with its opposite on the ritual's beat'. MECHANISM: the trial acts on the participant's STATE rather than their body; element none because a moral polarity has no elemental family and giving it one would be invention with no ground. The opener, and it is a music cue.
2The Gamelan Cue1physicalthe ensemble, not the masksone instrument enters earlyneutralize----PHYSICAL -- it is musicians playing. The row's second counter names it: 'read the gamelan cue that signals the turn'.
3The Deepening Pull1non-ordinarythe same draw, sustained rather than repeatedthe mode change does not resolve backtrigger_interruptnoneLORE GROUND: BE_0004_S3's composure_nodes -- puzzle_routed=gamelan_cue_read__pole_counter_balance. MECHANISM: sustained pressure needs a sustained answer; the interrupt is holding the counter through the whole phrase. Element none.
4The Crowd's Weight1physicalthe assembled participants, moving with the performancethe people around you lean before you docover----PHYSICAL. Standing against a room that is moving is a physical problem.
5The Overcorrection Trap1non-ordinarythe trial, rewarding the answer too farthe counter that worked last time works BETTER than it shouldanynoneLORE GROUND: BE_0004_S3 win_condition = PURGE;PERCEIVE, and the balance framing carried on threads = T15. MECHANISM: the failure mode is not weakness, it is excess -- the trial is symmetrical and so is losing it. Element none. The fight's real difficulty and the reason it is a TRIAL rather than a duel.
6The Held Step1physicalthe player's own footing on the ceremonial groundthe ground beneath you is where the pull is measuredany----
7The Second Pole1non-ordinarythe draw reversing without a restthe mode changes to the OTHER mode with no return to centreneutralizenoneLORE GROUND: BE_0004_S3 phase_breakdown_object -- 'the performance pulls toward one pole, THEN THE OTHER'. MECHANISM: the same grammar mirrored, which is the whole reason the trial is about a centre and not about a side. Element none.
8The Tightened Swing2non-ordinaryboth poles, alternating inside a single phrasethe cue arrives a beat before the pull instead of a bartrigger_interruptnoneLORE GROUND: BE_0004_S3's evolve-not-swap clause -- 'tightens the swing'. MECHANISM: the same two pulls, less warning. Element none.Phase 2's entire push, and it adds no new pole.
9The Broken Cue2physicalone musician dropping outan instrument that has cued every turn does not cue this oneany----PATTERN read: the absence is the tell, and only a player who has been listening has anything to notice.
10The Sympathetic Pull2non-ordinarythe trial drawing on what the player already carriesthe pull is toward the pole the player's own record leans toneutralizenoneLORE GROUND: BE_0004_S3 integrity-adjacent framing via threads = T06, and the standing integrity system. MECHANISM: the trial reads the participant and pulls where they already lean, which is why two players get different fights out of one authored kit. Element none. The kit's one genuinely personal ability.
11The Silence Between2physicalthe ensemble stopping entirelyeverything stops and nothing pullsany----PHYSICAL, and the hardest beat: there is nothing to counter, and countering anyway is a failure.
12The Centre Held2non-ordinarythe trial resolving, with both masks still standingthe two poles come to rest at the same distanceanynoneLORE GROUND: BE_0004_S3 win_condition = PURGE;PERCEIVE, has_nonkill_path = TRUE, and the row's own display name -- 'the lion and the widow, held apart'. MECHANISM: neither pole is defeated, because defeating one would be the failure. Element none. The win. NOTHING IS BEATEN, and that is the whole design.

ELEVATED, AND NOT ELEMENTAL BY DEFAULT (KIT_SCALING_TABLE 3.1b). 7 of the 12 moves

above are non-ordinary and each names its element family, its lore ground and its

mechanism. The rest are a body doing physical things, and they are marked physical rather

than dressed up. An elevated kit is one that CONTAINS the non-ordinary; it is not one in

which everything glows.

turf and relocation (MHM-G8, MHM-G9)

IT DOES NOT ENTER, RELOCATE OR LEAVE -- the trial is a place and a duration. WHAT IT DOES TO THE ARENA: it makes the centre of a courtyard the only safe coordinate in it, which is the most literal possible reading of the balance the performance is about.

the care read

care_tier = standard, target_type = ritual_trial, has_nonkill_path = TRUE. THE BARONG AND RANGDA ARE NEVER FOUGHT AND NEVER DEFEATED. HL_0001, HL_0005 and HL_0007 bind through the environment rows. The Calonarang tradition holds the two in balance rather than in victory, and the row's own display name says it -- 'the lion and the widow, held apart'. Winning by destroying either pole is not available on any difficulty. The player is a participant in a living rite, not a combatant in it, and the part economy takes nothing from anyone.

difficulty-mode expression

This kit is authored ONCE, at Fading. The five modulators of KIT_SCALING_TABLE section 4

express it across the ladder: active_ability_set grows upward through reserved follow-ups

on roots the player already learned, window_class tightens, answer_tree_depth prunes

toward the single true answer, hazard_concurrency rises with the arena rows above, and

phase_overlap interleaves the phase cycles. No second kit exists and no number here changes

with the tier.
