CANON SUBORDINATION — this document is PROPOSAL-TIER: it serves canon and never outranks it.
The canon: the CVD · the T1 foundation docs · the T0 registries (registries/) · the spine
(docs/spine/CH_*.md) · the region pages (_source/02_Tier_2_Region_Pages/). Authority order:docs/DOC_MAP.md§ 0.
Canon served (structural — the registries this kit's canon rows live in, plus its chapter's spine node):

READ THAT CANON FIRST — open it and derive from it before you build anything from this document.
If this document disagrees with canon, CANON WINS and this document is the defect — fix the
document, never the canon. Nothing here is applied until it is ratified into canon.
PROPOSAL-TIER. This kit serves canon and never outranks it. It writes no registry row.
The law it obeys: docs/proposals/combat/KIT_SCALING_TABLE.md. The intelligence scale:
docs/proposals/combat/INTELLIGENCE_TIERS.md. The body it fights with is the bestiary
lane's: docs/proposals/bestiary/BESTIARY_ELEVATION_DOCTRINE.md and its sheets. This file
describes the FIGHT; it never restates the BODY. Authors no magnitude -- no damage, no
health, no timing, no coefficient. Those are Phase-5M's behind the tuning firewall.

Silhouette read. Two masks, and the ground between them getting narrower.
Opener (MHM-G10, the cheap lesson first). THE FIRST PULL -- a single gentle draw toward one pole, announced a full bar ahead by the gamelan. It costs nothing to fail. It is the trial's whole grammar, delivered slow.
| phase | name | what it PUSHES (nothing pops) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | the first pole | one direction, clearly announced, repeatedly. The player learns that the answer to a pull is its opposite and that the cue is musical. |
| 2 | the swing | BE_0004_S3's evolve-not-swap clause: it TIGHTENS THE SWING. Nothing new -- the same two poles, alternating faster, with the cue arriving closer to the pull. |
| # | ability | phase | kind | body origin | tell shape | counter | element | lore ground + mechanism | note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | The First Pull | 1 | non-ordinary | the performance itself, drawing toward one pole | the gamelan changes mode a full bar before anything moves | neutralize | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0004_S3 target_type = ritual_trial, threads = T15;T06, and its own counter -- 'counter each pull with its opposite on the ritual's beat'. MECHANISM: the trial acts on the participant's STATE rather than their body; element none because a moral polarity has no elemental family and giving it one would be invention with no ground. | The opener, and it is a music cue. |
| 2 | The Gamelan Cue | 1 | physical | the ensemble, not the masks | one instrument enters early | neutralize | -- | -- | PHYSICAL -- it is musicians playing. The row's second counter names it: 'read the gamelan cue that signals the turn'. |
| 3 | The Deepening Pull | 1 | non-ordinary | the same draw, sustained rather than repeated | the mode change does not resolve back | trigger_interrupt | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0004_S3's composure_nodes -- puzzle_routed=gamelan_cue_read__pole_counter_balance. MECHANISM: sustained pressure needs a sustained answer; the interrupt is holding the counter through the whole phrase. Element none. | |
| 4 | The Crowd's Weight | 1 | physical | the assembled participants, moving with the performance | the people around you lean before you do | cover | -- | -- | PHYSICAL. Standing against a room that is moving is a physical problem. |
| 5 | The Overcorrection Trap | 1 | non-ordinary | the trial, rewarding the answer too far | the counter that worked last time works BETTER than it should | any | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0004_S3 win_condition = PURGE;PERCEIVE, and the balance framing carried on threads = T15. MECHANISM: the failure mode is not weakness, it is excess -- the trial is symmetrical and so is losing it. Element none. | The fight's real difficulty and the reason it is a TRIAL rather than a duel. |
| 6 | The Held Step | 1 | physical | the player's own footing on the ceremonial ground | the ground beneath you is where the pull is measured | any | -- | -- | |
| 7 | The Second Pole | 1 | non-ordinary | the draw reversing without a rest | the mode changes to the OTHER mode with no return to centre | neutralize | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0004_S3 phase_breakdown_object -- 'the performance pulls toward one pole, THEN THE OTHER'. MECHANISM: the same grammar mirrored, which is the whole reason the trial is about a centre and not about a side. Element none. | |
| 8 | The Tightened Swing | 2 | non-ordinary | both poles, alternating inside a single phrase | the cue arrives a beat before the pull instead of a bar | trigger_interrupt | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0004_S3's evolve-not-swap clause -- 'tightens the swing'. MECHANISM: the same two pulls, less warning. Element none. | Phase 2's entire push, and it adds no new pole. |
| 9 | The Broken Cue | 2 | physical | one musician dropping out | an instrument that has cued every turn does not cue this one | any | -- | -- | PATTERN read: the absence is the tell, and only a player who has been listening has anything to notice. |
| 10 | The Sympathetic Pull | 2 | non-ordinary | the trial drawing on what the player already carries | the pull is toward the pole the player's own record leans to | neutralize | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0004_S3 integrity-adjacent framing via threads = T06, and the standing integrity system. MECHANISM: the trial reads the participant and pulls where they already lean, which is why two players get different fights out of one authored kit. Element none. | The kit's one genuinely personal ability. |
| 11 | The Silence Between | 2 | physical | the ensemble stopping entirely | everything stops and nothing pulls | any | -- | -- | PHYSICAL, and the hardest beat: there is nothing to counter, and countering anyway is a failure. |
| 12 | The Centre Held | 2 | non-ordinary | the trial resolving, with both masks still standing | the two poles come to rest at the same distance | any | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0004_S3 win_condition = PURGE;PERCEIVE, has_nonkill_path = TRUE, and the row's own display name -- 'the lion and the widow, held apart'. MECHANISM: neither pole is defeated, because defeating one would be the failure. Element none. | The win. NOTHING IS BEATEN, and that is the whole design. |
ELEVATED, AND NOT ELEMENTAL BY DEFAULT (KIT_SCALING_TABLE 3.1b). 7 of the 12 moves
above are non-ordinary and each names its element family, its lore ground and its
mechanism. The rest are a body doing physical things, and they are marked physical rather
than dressed up. An elevated kit is one that CONTAINS the non-ordinary; it is not one in
which everything glows.
| part | moveset subtraction on break | legibility gain | material the economy wants |
|---|---|---|---|
| the player's own footing on the ceremonial ground | The Held Step (6) is the part, inverted: losing it costs the counter to whichever pull is live, and regaining it restores the full answer set | the ground is marked, so the player can see exactly how far they have drifted | nothing harvested |
| the cue instrument | The Gamelan Cue (2) and The Broken Cue (9) both change: without it the turns must be read off the masks instead of the music | the fight becomes visual instead of aural, which is harder and readable in a different channel | nothing extracted -- and see the care read; nothing here is damaged by the player |
EG_0022 Walled Temple Court Enclosure -- CARE-BOUND, GEOMETRY ONLY: hard_blocked, CONSTRICTION, enemy_usable = TRUE, attack_verbs = none. The court is the trial's volume and the reason drifting has a boundary.EG_0026 Consecrated Shrine Platform -- CARE-BOUND, GEOMETRY ONLY: hard_blocked, enemy_usable = FALSE, attack_verbs = none. The shrine is the centre the trial is measured from -- a sacred object functioning as a coordinate and nothing else.EG_0031 Wayang Shadow-Screen and Lamp Stage -- CARE-BOUND: the performance apparatus, enemy_usable = TRUE for concealment only, attack_verbs = none, never damaged.| channel | what the player sees or hears |
|---|---|
| posture | the two masks stop facing each other and both face the player |
| breath | the ensemble's collective breath -- the players' intake before a phrase -- stops being audible, which is how the shortened cue reads in the body before it reads in the music |
| vocal | the gamelan drops the interlocking figuration and plays in unison |
| opener | The First Pull is retired; The Second Pole becomes the opener and the swing is live |
IT DOES NOT ENTER, RELOCATE OR LEAVE -- the trial is a place and a duration. WHAT IT DOES TO THE ARENA: it makes the centre of a courtyard the only safe coordinate in it, which is the most literal possible reading of the balance the performance is about.
care_tier = standard, target_type = ritual_trial, has_nonkill_path = TRUE. THE BARONG AND RANGDA ARE NEVER FOUGHT AND NEVER DEFEATED. HL_0001, HL_0005 and HL_0007 bind through the environment rows. The Calonarang tradition holds the two in balance rather than in victory, and the row's own display name says it -- 'the lion and the widow, held apart'. Winning by destroying either pole is not available on any difficulty. The player is a participant in a living rite, not a combatant in it, and the part economy takes nothing from anyone.
This kit is authored ONCE, at Fading. The five modulators of KIT_SCALING_TABLE section 4
express it across the ladder: active_ability_set grows upward through reserved follow-ups
on roots the player already learned, window_class tightens, answer_tree_depth prunes
toward the single true answer, hazard_concurrency rises with the arena rows above, and
phase_overlap interleaves the phase cycles. No second kit exists and no number here changes
with the tier.
