CANON SUBORDINATION — this document is PROPOSAL-TIER: it serves canon and never outranks it.
The canon: the CVD · the T1 foundation docs · the T0 registries (registries/) · the spine
(docs/spine/CH_*.md) · the region pages (_source/02_Tier_2_Region_Pages/). Authority order:docs/DOC_MAP.md§ 0.
Canon served (structural — the registries this kit's canon rows live in, plus its chapter's spine node):

READ THAT CANON FIRST — open it and derive from it before you build anything from this document.
If this document disagrees with canon, CANON WINS and this document is the defect — fix the
document, never the canon. Nothing here is applied until it is ratified into canon.
PROPOSAL-TIER. This kit serves canon and never outranks it. It writes no registry row.
The law it obeys: docs/proposals/combat/KIT_SCALING_TABLE.md. The intelligence scale:
docs/proposals/combat/INTELLIGENCE_TIERS.md. The body it fights with is the bestiary
lane's: docs/proposals/bestiary/BESTIARY_ELEVATION_DOCTRINE.md and its sheets. This file
describes the FIGHT; it never restates the BODY. Authors no magnitude -- no damage, no
health, no timing, no coefficient. Those are Phase-5M's behind the tuning firewall.

Silhouette read. Words the elders have said a thousand times, standing up wrong.
Opener (MHM-G10, the cheap lesson first). THE FIRST INVERSION -- a proverb everyone in the village knows, returned with one word moved. It does nothing. It costs nothing. And it teaches the fight's only rule: the damage is in the MOVE, not in the word.
| phase | name | what it PUSHES (nothing pops) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | the twists manifest | riddle-constructs to un-invert, one at a time, in front of people who know the originals. |
| 2 | the compounding | the row's evolve-not-swap clause: it COMPOUNDS THE TWISTS ON THE SAME PROVERB-FORMS. Nothing new is introduced -- the same proverbs, inverted twice, so an untwisting that was correct in phase 1 now produces a second wrong sentence. |
| # | ability | phase | kind | body origin | tell shape | counter | element | lore ground + mechanism | note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | The First Inversion | 1 | non-ordinary | no body -- the materialized argument | a known proverb returns with one word moved | any | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0003_S3 target_type = materialized_superstition, and Thread 11's trickster line. MECHANISM: a materialized argument is a real object class in this world -- the same class as BE_0012_S3 Anansi and BE_0006's counterfeit -- and it takes damage from being CORRECTED rather than struck. Element none: there is nothing elemental about a sentence, and giving it a family to fill a cell would be exactly the inflation the class split forbids. | The opener, free, and the root of every escalation. |
| 2 | The Plausible Twist | 1 | non-ordinary | the argument, wearing the elder's own cadence | the inverted proverb SCANS correctly -- the rhythm is right and the sense is not | neutralize | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0003_S3's own counter -- 'pair the twist against Elder Bernardus's untwisted register to cancel it'. MECHANISM: the construct borrows the register, so the answer is a register the player has to have actually learned. Element none. | This is the ability that makes listening to the elder in the village a mechanical investment. |
| 3 | The Semantic Tell | 1 | non-ordinary | the inscription-trace under the spoken form | one character in the traced form is carrying weight it should not have | weak_point | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0003_S3's second counter -- 'read the semantic tell in the inscription trace'. MECHANISM: the twist has to be WRITTEN somewhere to hold, and the written form is the weak point. Element none. Neophyte-tier reading: it is a shape, never a signature. | The literal weak_point of a thing with no body, and it is honest -- there is a named place to hit. |
| 4 | The Crowd Turns | 1 | physical | the assembled community, not the construct | the villagers stop nodding | any | -- | -- | PHYSICAL, and it is the fight's health bar: the construct is only as strong as the room's belief in it. |
| 5 | The Riddle-Construct | 1 | non-ordinary | a manifested form that has to be walked through | the twist takes a shape with an inside | dodge_only | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0003_S3's phase_breakdown_object -- 'materialized riddle-constructs to un-invert'. MECHANISM: a held false premise occupies space in this world; the construct's geometry is its argument's structure, so a wrong turn inside it is a wrong step in the reasoning. Element none. | Puzzle-dominant is the row's own engagement_modes_object, and this is where the axis_split 20/50/30 actually lives. |
| 6 | The Reversal Trap | 1 | non-ordinary | the construct offering an untwisting that is also wrong | the correction it suggests is easier than the one you were assembling | trigger_interrupt | none | LORE GROUND: Thread 11's trickster grammar, carried on BE_0003_S3 (threads = T11). MECHANISM: it argues in bad faith and the bad faith is the mechanic; the interrupt is refusing the easy correction. Element none. | The fail state is being right about the wrong thing. |
| 7 | The Compound Twist | 2 | non-ordinary | the same proverb, inverted twice | a proverb you already fixed returns wrong in a different place | neutralize | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0003_S3's evolve-not-swap clause -- 'compounds the twists on the same proverb-forms'. MECHANISM: the second inversion is applied to your OWN correction, so the construct is now arguing with your work rather than with the elder's. Element none. | MHM-G10's variant law in a puzzle register: same root, one more step, and the player has already learned the root. |
| 8 | The Borrowed Authority | 2 | non-ordinary | the construct speaking in the elder's voice exactly | the register is not merely close -- it is his | weak_point | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0003_S3's character_engagement_node -- phase=P2;verb=declare -- and the counter that names Bernardus's untwisted register. MECHANISM: it can only borrow what has been SAID, so anything the elder has not said is a hole in it, and that is the weak point. Element none. | The player wins by knowing the man, which is the chapter's actual argument. |
| 9 | The Silence | 2 | physical | the room, when the untwisting is wrong | nobody says anything | any | -- | -- | PHYSICAL and brutal. Getting it wrong in public costs standing, and the fight has a social cost that is not a health bar. |
| 10 | The Third Form | 2 | non-ordinary | a proverb nobody in the room has heard | the construct offers an original instead of an inversion | any | none | LORE GROUND: INVENTED -- ours. No Manggarai account attests a proverb-construct inventing new material; this is our escalation of the materialized-argument class and it is declared as ours. MECHANISM: a twist with no original cannot be untwisted, so the answer is not correction but REFUSAL -- naming it as unattested, which is a different verb and the one the chapter is teaching. | INVENTED and named. The distinction the standing rule turns on. |
| 11 | The Collapse Window | 2 | non-ordinary | the construct's own structure, when the room hears it | the villagers repeat the correct form back, unprompted | trigger_interrupt | none | LORE GROUND: BE_0003_S3's phase_breakdown_object -- 'the manifested twist collapses when the COMMUNITY hears the untwisting'. MECHANISM: the collapse is not the player's; it is the room's. The interrupt is holding the correction long enough for it to be repeated. Element none. | win_condition = PERCEIVE;REFUTE;EXPOSE -- all three verbs live in this one ability. |
| 12 | The Elder Speaks | 2 | physical | Bernardus, finally, without prompting | he says the original himself | any | -- | -- | PHYSICAL, and the actual win. The player's job was never to argue the construct down; it was to make the room able to. |
ELEVATED, AND NOT ELEMENTAL BY DEFAULT (KIT_SCALING_TABLE 3.1b). 9 of the 12 moves
above are non-ordinary and each names its element family, its lore ground and its
mechanism. The rest are a body doing physical things, and they are marked physical rather
than dressed up. An elevated kit is one that CONTAINS the non-ordinary; it is not one in
which everything glows.
| part | moveset subtraction on break | legibility gain | material the economy wants |
|---|---|---|---|
| the inscription trace | The Semantic Tell (3) resolves permanently and The Plausible Twist (2) can no longer scan -- the written anchor is gone | the spoken twists stop landing, visibly, because nothing is holding them | an inscription rubbing -- the chapter's first written-evidence item and a Thread-13 seed |
| the borrowed register | The Borrowed Authority (8) and The Plausible Twist (2) both leave the moveset | the construct starts sounding like nobody, which is when the room stops listening | nothing harvested |
EG_0015 Compang Communal Stone Platform-Centre -- CARE-BOUND, GEOMETRY ONLY: hard_blocked, HL_0001;HL_0007, enemy_usable = FALSE, attack_verbs = none. The communal centre IS the arena -- this argument has to happen where the community stands, which is what makes The Crowd Turns (4) and The Collapse Window (11) possible -- and it is never damaged, never fought across, never armed. A sacred centre shaping an encounter entirely through who can hear it.EG_0021 Caci Ritual Ground -- CARE-BOUND, GEOMETRY ONLY: the ring's boundary is the assembly's standing shape, and it constrains where the constructs can manifest.EG_0014 Montane Cloud-Forest Mist Layer -- BOTH: D11_OBSCURE. If the mist comes in, the room cannot see who is speaking, and the Borrowed Authority (8) gets much stronger.| channel | what the player sees or hears |
|---|---|
| posture | the constructs stop standing apart from the assembly and start standing among them |
| breath | not applicable to a body that has none -- and the kit says so rather than inventing one. The channel is carried by the room's breathing instead: the villagers hold theirs |
| vocal | the register stops being close to the elder's and becomes exactly his |
| opener | The First Inversion is retired; The Compound Twist becomes the opener |
IT ENTERS when a proverb is spoken wrong and nobody corrects it. IT RELOCATES to wherever the most people are listening. IT LEAVES when the room says the original back. WHAT IT DOES TO THE ARENA: it makes an audience into terrain. Every other fight in the chapter cares where the walls are; this one cares where the people are.
care_tier = standard, target_type = materialized_superstition. THE TARGET IS A TWIST, NEVER A TRADITION. Manggarai proverb-craft (go'et) is depicted as the living, sophisticated register it is -- the elder's untwisted form is the WEAPON, and the player wins by learning it properly. Nothing here frames the tradition as superstition; the row's own type name refers to the manifested twist, and the encounter's whole shape is a community defending its own words. The one invention (ability 10) is declared.
This kit is authored ONCE, at Fading. The five modulators of KIT_SCALING_TABLE section 4
express it across the ladder: active_ability_set grows upward through reserved follow-ups
on roots the player already learned, window_class tightens, answer_tree_depth prunes
toward the single true answer, hazard_concurrency rises with the arena rows above, and
phase_overlap interleaves the phase cycles. No second kit exists and no number here changes
with the tier.
