KIT_BE_0003_S1 -- The Naga Tana of the Wae -- the guardian that is owed something

CANON SUBORDINATION — this document is PROPOSAL-TIER: it serves canon and never outranks it.
The canon: the CVD · the T1 foundation docs · the T0 registries (registries/) · the spine
(docs/spine/CH_*.md) · the region pages (_source/02_Tier_2_Region_Pages/). Authority order: docs/DOC_MAP.md § 0.
Canon served (structural — the registries this kit's canon rows live in, plus its chapter's spine node):
T0_Boss_Encounter_Registry · docs/spine/CH_03.md
READ THAT CANON FIRST — open it and derive from it before you build anything from this document.
If this document disagrees with canon, CANON WINS and this document is the defect — fix the
document, never the canon. Nothing here is applied until it is ratified into canon.
PROPOSAL-TIER. This kit serves canon and never outranks it. It writes no registry row.
The law it obeys: docs/proposals/combat/KIT_SCALING_TABLE.md. The intelligence scale:
docs/proposals/combat/INTELLIGENCE_TIERS.md. The body it fights with is the bestiary
lane's: docs/proposals/bestiary/BESTIARY_ELEVATION_DOCTRINE.md and its sheets. This file
describes the FIGHT; it never restates the BODY. Authors no magnitude -- no damage, no
health, no timing, no coefficient. Those are Phase-5M's behind the tuning firewall.

Silhouette read. The same animal as Chapter 2, and the ground under it is behaving differently.

Opener (MHM-G10, the cheap lesson first). THE ROUSED COIL -- it sets over the spring and the earth around the anchor point stays wet where it should have drained. Free, unpunishing, and it tells the player in one image that this is not the encounter they had in the last chapter.

phases -- evolve, never swap

phasenamewhat it PUSHES (nothing pops)
1the roused coil-and-strike over the springit is defending, not hunting. Every strike is a refusal of an approach and the approach is the thing being judged.
2the withdrawal, as the contract is restoredthe row's evolve-not-swap clause -- it SHORTENS STRIKE WINDOWS rather than adding attacks. Everything stays; the windows close. And the phase resolves by the offering, not by damage.

1The Roused Coil1physicaltail anchored on the spring's lip, forebody loaded over itthe anchor tightens one turn and the head drops leveldodge_only----The constrictor root, and the player already knows it from KIT_MF_CONSTRICTOR. That prior knowledge is the setup for everything this kit changes.
2Guardian Strike1physicalthe neck, thrown from the set coilthe head levels and the throat inflates onceparry_only----
3Lane Across the Spring1physicalthe trunk laid across the approachthe body occupies the water rather than the bankcover----
4Tail Anchor Shift1physicalthe tail walking to a new purchase point on the stoneworkthe tail leaves its hold before the head movesany----
5The Wet Ground1non-ordinarynot the animal -- the soil around the anchorground that should have drained stays saturated, and it spreads toward youneutralizeEarthLORE GROUND: SRC_00469, the attested Manggarai tradition carried verbatim on CR_0002 -- the naga are GOOD guardians named for their charge (naga golo and naga beo for a village, naga tana for the soil), every village is held to keep at least one, and the wae guardian holds its own ngoeng-de-tana contract. MECHANISM: the guardian and the soil are one charge, so the land answers with it. defender_element = Earth is the row's own cell. Neutralize is reading which violation caused it -- the row's second counter. This is the ability that separates this encounter from the Chapter-2 animal in one move.
6The Contract Reads You1non-ordinarythe spring itself, responding to the approach's bearingthe water's surface goes flat and stays flat while you moveanyWaterLORE GROUND: the same SRC_00469 account of the ngoeng-de-tana contract, plus EG_0017's status as protected veneration water. MECHANISM: the contract is a real obligation with a real direction, and the vril substrate carries it as a standing condition on the site rather than as a power the animal casts. Element Water because the carrier IS the spring.Free and unpunishing. It is information, and the player who reads it early solves the encounter without a strike.
7Bank Sweep1physicalthe trunk, clearing the approach in one passthe coil unwinds along the ground instead of upwarddodge_only----
8The Pause1physicalthe animal going entirely still mid-defenceeverything stops and the water stays flattrigger_interrupt----The row's first counter -- 'attune the breath to open a pause'. The interrupt is the player matching the pause rather than filling it, which is the non-kill route's mechanism.
9Saturated Footing2non-ordinarythe soil under the player, not under the snakeyour own footprints fill with water behind youcoverMudLORE GROUND: EG_0018, the Roused-Guardian Encounter Pocket, whose own cells read ambient_state_gift = material:saturated_earth, exposure_hazard = drag, elemental_affinity = earth:enhance;water:enhance. MECHANISM: the guardian's charge is the SOIL, so its escalation is expressed in the ground rather than in its body -- Mud is the grid family where earth and water meet, and it is the honest read of that cell pair. The escalation that the player feels before they see.
10Shortened Strike2physicalthe same neck, from a coil that never fully resetsthe throat inflates and the head is ALREADY levelparry_only----The row's evolve-not-swap clause, stated as a shorter window on a known shape.
11The Closing Lane2physicalthe body re-anchoring nearer the spring each cyclethe safe gap is smaller than it wasany----
12The Violation Named2non-ordinarythe site, showing what was actually done to itthe wet ground traces a shape -- a cut line, a diverted channel, a broken offeringneutralizeEarthLORE GROUND: BE_0003_S1's own counter -- 'perceive the specific violation to know the contract to offer' -- against SRC_00469's ngoeng-de-tana. MECHANISM: the land carries the record of its own breach, and the vril-trace reads it as a shape rather than as a signature. Element Earth, the row's own defender_element.win_condition = PURGE;PERCEIVE. This ability IS the win condition, made playable.
13The Withdrawal2physicalthe coil opening fully, the animal going back into the waterthe anchor releases and the ground begins to drainany----The non-kill resolution. It is an ability because the player has to hold the offering through it; interrupting it re-rouses the guardian, and the row's has_nonkill_path = TRUE is not a menu option.

ELEVATED, AND NOT ELEMENTAL BY DEFAULT (KIT_SCALING_TABLE 3.1b). 4 of the 13 moves

above are non-ordinary and each names its element family, its lore ground and its

mechanism. The rest are a body doing physical things, and they are marked physical rather

than dressed up. An elevated kit is one that CONTAINS the non-ordinary; it is not one in

which everything glows.

the tail anchor on the spring lipThe Roused Coil (1), Lane Across the Spring (3) and The Closing Lane (11) lose their fixed pointthe coil sags and the wet ground stops spreading from a centreNOTHING IS HARVESTED. SRC_00469 records that the guardian is APPEASED AND NEVER SLAIN; the part economy here pays in legibility and in the site's own state, and a player who kills it takes a Thread-2 penalty rather than a hide
the diverted channel (the site's part, not the body's)The Wet Ground (5), Saturated Footing (9) and The Violation Named (12) all resolve once the channel is restored -- this is the part-break that ENDS the encounterthe spring runs clean and the ground drains visibly, from the anchor outwardnothing extracted; the repair is the reward

turf and relocation (MHM-G8, MHM-G9)

IT ENTERS by being roused -- the encounter begins because something was done, not because the player arrived. IT RELOCATES only around the spring. IT LEAVES into the water when the contract is restored. WHAT IT DOES TO THE ARENA: it saturates it, progressively, from the anchor outward, so the fight's difficulty and the site's grievance are the same variable.

the care read

SRC_00469 GOVERNS AND IS QUOTED ON THE ROW: the naga are GOOD guardians named for their charge, every village is held to keep at least one, and the wae guardian is APPEASED AND NEVER SLAIN. So the encounter's designed outcome is the withdrawal (13), the kill is available and penalised, and the part economy deliberately pays no material. HL_0005, HL_0002 and HL_0003 bind through CR_0002. The guardian is not a monster and is never styled as one; it is owed something, and the fight is the player finding out what.

difficulty-mode expression

This kit is authored ONCE, at Fading. The five modulators of KIT_SCALING_TABLE section 4

express it across the ladder: active_ability_set grows upward through reserved follow-ups

on roots the player already learned, window_class tightens, answer_tree_depth prunes

toward the single true answer, hazard_concurrency rises with the arena rows above, and

phase_overlap interleaves the phase cycles. No second kit exists and no number here changes

with the tier.
