Book Availability — Online-First Sweep of the MUST-ACQUIRE Set

Working doc. Per-title legitimate-access check of the ~158 MUST-ACQUIRE anchors in

docs/BOOK_ACQUISITION.md, under Josh's ruling (2026-07-03): before any purchase,

verify whether the full text/data/images are legitimately obtainable online.

Only legal routes count — publisher/platform digital editions, archive.org controlled

digital lending (CDL), HathiTrust, institutional/open-access repositories, author

self-deposits, official library e-lending (Libby/OverDrive), legitimate free downloads

(public-domain, publisher OA). Piracy / shadow-library links (Anna's Archive, Sci-Hub,

Scribd full copies, dokumen.pub, academia.edu login-gated, activist reposts) are never

an acceptable answer — if the only full copy is pirated, the title is NOT obtainable-online

and falls to a buy bin.

Method + date stamp: per-title web-search + page-fetch verification of legitimate access

routes (publisher pages, archive.org metadata/CDL flags, OA repositories, retailer digital

editions), one title at a time across 153 resolved anchors; shadow-library copies excluded

by rule. Completed 2026-07-03.

30 print-only titles. Average book ~350 pp/volume. Four titles are multi-volume, so the

scannable unit count runs higher than the title count:

• ~34 physical volumes → ~11,900 pages at 350 pp/vol.
• Multi-volume: Brohier *Ancient Irrigation Works in Ceylon* (3 vol), Coningham *Anuradhapura* (2 vol), Eiseman *Bali: Sekala and Niskala* (2 vol). Manker *Die lappische Zaubertrommel* is a 2-vol set but only Vol I (1938) is the required drum anchor — counted as 1.
• Two items run well above the 350-pp average: Foster *Before the Muses* (~1,044 pp); Verger and Soleilhavoup are plate-heavy volumes where scan quality (not page count) is the labor.

Most §17.1 anchors turned out obtainable online (Davis ×2, Desmangles, Dubois-Avengers, Hætta,

Pentikäinen, Pascoe, Gammage, Watson, Norris/Hamacher, Clarkson, HCPO). The §17.1 titles that
