Whole-Arc Through-Line — Type 2: DEITY_PATRON

CANON SUBORDINATION — this document is PROPOSAL-TIER: it serves canon and never outranks it.
The canon: the CVD · the T1 foundation docs · the T0 registries (registries/) · the spine
(docs/spine/CH_*.md) · the region pages (_source/02_Tier_2_Region_Pages/). Authority order: docs/DOC_MAP.md § 0.
Canon served (scanned from this document's own citations — widen it by hand where it is thin):
T1_Research_Corpus_Master · T1_World_Geography · T0_Cross_Cultural_Link_Graph
READ THAT CANON FIRST — open it and derive from it before you build anything from this document.
If this document disagrees with canon, CANON WINS and this document is the defect — fix the
document, never the canon. Nothing here is applied until it is ratified into canon.

Phase-2 cross-arc stitch of the whole-arc pass. Where the per-node passes (WS1 matrix Ch 2-65; Phase-1 A1-A4 + B1-B3) each spotted a deity/patron in isolation, this file threads the ones worth RE-APPEARING into named through-lines: introduced-where → returns-where as quest-giver / rescuer / ally / opposition, with escalation logic and the specific beat each node needs.

Docs-only, proposal-first. Node count LOCKED (79); every finding is a beat INSIDE an existing node. No chapter re-assigned, no numerology/naming invented. Verdict on every entity: PORTRAYABLE_DEITY (usable as a character; firewall — never a deity-name on a mortal NPC, never a revered/real figure cast as villain) or REPRESENT_WITH_CARE (a living sacred tradition's deity, collective-care). Reveal discipline: the pre-Ch-38 instances (Ch 7/12/18/19/23/25/26/31) are regional myth unconnected to the family — none leaks the House/pattern/Grand-Sage; the deity beats carry ZERO forward valence on the family surface.

The governing firewall for this type (the "deities are real & portrayable" nuance, memory + RULINGS §content-bar): supernatural gods are REAL in this RPG and MAY be portrayed and USED — a good deity is a quest-giver / rescuer / ally (Baal-Hadad ratified as an embodied good-deity who gives a quest disguised as a human OR rescues the player, D-DRAGON-18); an evil/adversarial deity opposes. The ONLY deity-limits are (a) a deity-name on a mortal NPC and (b) a revered/real figure cast as villain. Every chain below honors both.

Bottom line up front. Six deity-patron through-lines are worth wiring. One is already substantially built and just needs its two endgame landings (the Simurgh). Two are the arc's strongest un-made patron spines (the chaoskampf storm-god as the deity-mirror of the dragon lineage; the crossroads-opener Eshu→Legba across the diaspora — the latter is grounded in three live link-graph rows). One is the modern arc's ally-patron device that also FIXES the Ch-65 over-fence (good deities stand with the player against the family's forced supernatural). Two are lighter but clean (the negotiated sea-mother; Arawn the one realm-side ally who legitimately crosses into the homecoming war). The single genuine boundary to hold: Earth-tradition deities CANNOT enter the fairy realm (Ch 66+) — the Earth-deity ally spine therefore culminates in the MODERN peak (Ch 65), never the Realm War; only Realm-Road otherworld sovereigns (Arawn) cross.

---

Chain D1 — The Simurgh: the wisdom-bird patron who becomes the revelation's own image

Ordered nodes: Ch 19 (bond) → Ch 31 (Sufi home) → [carried Ch 32-77] → Ch 75 (war-host muster) → Ch 77 (the parable made flesh).

Verdict: PORTRAYABLE_DEITY (a benevolent supernatural patron/counselor; the F4 Flight familiar — NEVER a combat target, per CH_19 L155).

Why it is the flagship of this type: it is the one deity-patron already wired end-to-end in the built spine, and its payoff is load-bearing for the whole ending. Grounding: CH_19 L131/L172 (bonds at Mount Damavand — "not a pet but a counselor, the first thing in a long time that simply sees her and stays"); CH_31 L153/L172/L184 (comes into its Sufi home — the Conference-of-the-Birds resonance, ambient L3); phase1_A4 L54 (the F4 Simurgh IS Attar's sī-morgh — the thirty birds who ARE the Simorgh — one of the five philosophical parallels cresting at Ch 77). RCM/Threads confirm the Simurgh-of-the-poets initiatory tradition (T1_World_Geography §Persia; Ch 19→31 wisdom-bird line).

Escalation / payoff logic: counselor (Ch 19, gives pre-combat tactical reads on enemy weak points) → companion who "comes into its home" (Ch 31, the Sufi wisdom-register) → the collected menagerie's endgame deployment (Ch 75) → the living embodiment of the reveal's central parable (Ch 77 — the thirty birds who discover they ARE the Simorgh rhymes the "I was consulting myself" self-recognition, without ever captioning the two as identical).

Beat each node needs:

Reveal/firewall guard: the Sufi self-realization stays ambient L3 through the whole arc; the Ch-77 staging is a felt presence, never a spoken thesis (HL_0046 — the Grand Sage never speaks the parallel aloud).

---

Chain D2 — The chaoskampf storm-god: the DEITY mirror of the recurring dragon lineage

Ordered nodes (the patron register, tracking the RECURRING_ANTAGONIST serpent lineage): Ch 7 (Murugan) · Ch 17 (Marduk, audit-only) · Ch 18 (Baal-Hadad — the ratified embodied rescuer) · Ch 25 (Teshub/Tarhunt) · Ch 26 (Perun) · Ch 60 (Susanoo — proposed) · Ch 72 (Indra — the built bookend) · [felt echo at the dragon-lineage culmination Ch 69/72/75].

Verdict: PORTRAYABLE_DEITY across the register (each is a good storm/war-god who fights the tradition's own chaos-serpent). REPRESENT_WITH_CARE where the deity belongs to a living major religion (Murugan = living Tamil Shaivism, CH_07 L91-208 handles him correctly-honored, never fought; Indra echoed-not-supplanted, phase1_A3 Ch 72).

The core idea: the RECURRING_ANTAGONIST pass (§R1 across A2/A3/B1) established that the seven-headed / chaos-serpent is a literally-recurring marquee boss (Litan reversed by D-DRAGON-18: "retreats → re-encounters"). Its DEITY MIRROR is the good storm-god who slays/binds it — the same chaoskampf, honored across cultures. The link graph already carries the substrate: LINK_0154 ("Chaoskampf: the withholding/adversary dragon," Litan Ch 18 ↔ Vrtra/Azi Dahaka Ch 19) plus the chaoskampf set LINK_0153/0155. Right now the dragon recurs but the god who answers it does not — a one-sided lineage.

Escalation / payoff logic — the design pattern this chain generalizes (the "domain-deity quest-frames the fair-game fight" pattern): in each dragon-lineage node, the region's benevolent storm/domain-deity FRAMES or quest-gives the fair-game monster fight, and Baal-Hadad is the ratified embodiment of that pattern (Ch 18: disguised-human quest-giver, revealed after; OR he rescues the player and Litan retreats → re-encounters later). The storm-god's aid ESCALATES with the serpent: an ancient rescue (Ch 18) → a felt "the same storm stands against the same serpent" recognition each time the lineage recurs → the culmination where the dragon you could never finish is finally answered (the Ch-72 Indra/Vritra kill A3 recommends, and the Ch-75 final fought stand A4 seed #1 asks for), the storm-register present as the honored deity who first stood there.

Beat each node needs:

Reveal/firewall guard: felt L3 only — never a declared "one dragon" or "one god" (that is hyperdiffusion + reveal breach); never merge distinct traditions' storm-gods into one being — each stays its own culture's, honored on its own terms. Living-religion deities (Murugan, Indra) are echoed, never supplanted by the protagonist (she ECHOES the storm-god's role, does not replace him).

One light placement note (creative-within-vision, applied not asked): phase1_A4 seed #9 flags "confirm Baal-Hadad's rescue re-encounter lands." The cleanest, firewall-safe realization is the felt-echo + local-storm-god framing above (each node's OWN storm-god carries the register; Baal's literal re-encounter is a felt rescue-echo when Litan culminates), NOT transplanting the Levantine Baal into a non-Levantine node. If Josh later wants a staged embodied Baal-Hadad re-appearance, its node placement is his call — but nothing here requires it, so it is not surfaced as a blocking decision.

Chain D3 — The crossroads-opener: Eshu → Papa Legba, the threshold-patron carried in chains across the diaspora

Ordered nodes: Ch 12 (Eshu-Elegba, Yoruba origin) → Ch 23 (Hermes, felt convergence) → Ch 39 (Eshu, modern West Africa) → Ch 42 (Papa Legba, Haiti).

Verdict: PORTRAYABLE_DEITY (the opener-of-the-way / threshold-messenger; firewall: the deity as gate-patron, NEVER a mortal NPC's name).

Grounding (this chain is the most link-graph-grounded of the type): LINK_0162 (Eshu-Elegba Ch 12 → Hermes Ch 23, "boundary-crosser / crossroads-messenger," L1_player_facing_mechanic); LINK_0165 (Eshu convergence origin Ch 12 → the Anansi/Ti-Malice diaspora seam at Haiti Ch 42, L3); the Ch-12 Ifá/Eshu cluster (WS1 Ch 12); phase1_B2 (Ch 39 already plays the Eshu crossroads-offering; Ch 42 serves Damballa but does NOT surface Legba — the gap).

Escalation / payoff logic: the same threshold-god, honored and then carried in chains across the Middle Passage, re-surfacing under his diaspora name. The PATRON MECHANIC recurs and escalates: a small crossroads-offering the player learns to make (Ch 12/39) → the gate that MUST be greeted before a major threshold-quest will open (Ch 42 — Papa Legba propitiated before the Bois Caïman revolution-vril work unlocks). The rabbit-hole player who greeted Eshu in Yoruba-land earns the recognition when Legba stands at the Haitian crossroads. A reveal-safe, diaspora-literal payoff.

Beat each node needs:

Reveal/firewall guard: deity as gate-patron only; the Hermes/Anansi convergence stays L3-unnamed (LINK_0165 is explicitly L3_canonical_truth_unnamed). Non-gating: greeting Legba OPENS a path but never hard-blocks progression (multi-path).

---

Chain D4 — The good deities who STAND WITH the player: the modern-arc ally-patron spine (and the Ch-65 over-fence fix)

Ordered nodes: Ch 39 (deities as allies-not-enemies, debut) → Ch 55 (apu / condor-mallku, the ratified model) → Ch 63 (Pele / taniwha living-sacred; the aku-aku re-homed as self-willed allies) → Ch 65 (the action peak — allied deities + freed beings).

Verdict: PORTRAYABLE_DEITY (good deities as combat/quest allies) + REPRESENT_WITH_CARE (the living-sacred Andean/Hawaiian/Rapa Nui traditions — collective care, honored as agents, never harvested).

Grounding: phase1_B3 Ch 55 (the Inner-Council node — "the living-sacred counterweight [apu, condor-mallku] STANDS WITH the player against the Puppeteer's forced constructs — a model PORTRAYABLE_DEITY use," the ratified template); Ch 39 (Eshu/Mami Wata/Ifá "correctly allies, not enemies"); Ch 63 (Pele REPRESENT_WITH_CARE, taniwha "the model PORTRAYABLE cryptid-done-right," and the aku-aku Option-C ruling — the Rapa Nui dead re-homed as self-willed honored guardians who RESIST the forcer / ALLY with the protagonist, RULINGS.md); Ch 65 (the OVER_FENCE_RISK — the action peak fenced into a courtroom + re-freeing with no marquee combat).

Escalation / payoff logic: the family's crime is FORCING the supernatural; the deities' answer is to stand FREELY with the one who frees. Debut as allies-not-enemies (Ch 39) → literally fight beside the player against forced constructs (Ch 55, the model) → the wronged dead/patrons who CHOOSE resistance over being weaponized (Ch 63 aku-aku, agency not a bound weapon) → the coalition present at the modern action peak (Ch 65). This spine is ALSO the fix for the Ch-65 over-fence (phase1_B3 OVER_FENCE #1): route an embodied confrontation into the muster/threshold with the allied deities in it, so the re-freeing is the emotional coda AFTER a fight, not the whole peak.

Beat each node needs:

Reveal/firewall guard — the load-bearing boundary of this type: these are EARTH-tradition deities. They CANNOT enter the fairy realm (Ch 66+) — a fairy-realm re-appearance would breach the realm firewall (phase1_A4 seed #9). This spine therefore culminates in the MODERN peak (Ch 65), NOT the Realm War (Ch 75). The Realm War's patrons are the realm's OWN honored beings (the King's court, the twelve elven-native species) + the one Realm-Road otherworld ally (Arawn, Chain D6). Care: living-sacred deities are agents winning their own fight, never rescued-props; /Kaggen-class sacred names stay name-protected even while the being is portrayable.

---

Chain D5 — The sea-mother negotiated, never fought: Sedna and her sisters

Ordered nodes: Ch 39 (Mami Wata / Yemoja, sea-mother ally) → Ch 56 (Sedna / Sassuma Arnaa, the descent-negotiation anchor) → [audit-only echoes: Ch 17 / Ch 68 Tiamat-Apsu the primordial sea-mother].

Verdict: PORTRAYABLE_DEITY (a sea-sovereign quest-giver / negotiation-patron — you NEVER fight her). REPRESENT_WITH_CARE where living (Inuit Sedna tradition).

Grounding: phase1_B3 Ch 56 ("Sedna / Sassuma Arnaa is a portrayable deity... the angakkuq sea-floor descent to negotiate / comb-her-hair is a DEITY_PATRON set-piece [quest-giver / negotiation, never a fight] + a Realm-Road descent-seed"); Ch 39 (Mami Wata sea-mother ally); phase1_A2 Ch 68 (the Apsu sea-mother deities audit-only, un-bodied — correct).

Escalation / payoff logic: the sea-mother governs the hunt and the crossing; her MOOD is the mechanic. The patron register: propitiate/negotiate the sea-mother (comb her hair / right a wrong / make the offering) to release the game or open safe passage — a "negotiate, never conquer" patron that is the deliberate COUNTER-register to the fair-game sea-serpent lineage (Chain D2). Sedna (Ch 56) is the one staged, playable instance; Mami Wata (Ch 39) is the warm earlier rehearsal; the primordial sea-mothers (Tiamat/Apsu, Ch 17/68) stay audit-only (un-bodied — a deity, not a boss).

Beat each node needs:

Reveal/firewall guard: never fought; the primordial sea-mother deities stay un-bodied. Living Inuit tradition: Sedna honored as a real sovereign, the descent a negotiation the tradition itself frames.

---

Chain D6 — Arawn: the one Realm-Road patron who crosses into the homecoming war

Ordered nodes: Ch 73 (Annwn — Arawn made "a firm friend and lasting ally") → Ch 75 (the Realm at War — returns / sends aid).

Verdict: PORTRAYABLE_DEITY / honored Otherworld sovereign-ally (Welsh Arawn; firewall: the realm's own proper nouns, Earth-tradition names stay L2).

Grounding: phase1_A3 Ch 73 (the build ends with Arawn "a firm friend and lasting ally," the Cwn Annwn and the Cauldron of Rebirth his — "nothing in the built spine calls this ally back... a planted-never-paid setup one door from the Ch-74 crossing and the Ch-75 Realm War"); phase1_A4 seed #2 (the Realm-Road allies return → Ch 75).

Escalation / payoff logic: the guest-friendship EARNED on the road (Ch 73) returns as AID at the homecoming (Ch 75) — paying off the nine-otherworld door-ladder as a COALITION rather than a corridor. Arawn is the one deity-patron who legitimately crosses the Earth-deity firewall, because he is a Realm-Road OTHERWORLD sovereign (a native of the cosmography the elven traveler passes through), NOT an Earth-tradition deity bound to a place on Earth.

Beat each node needs:

Reveal/firewall guard: realm-canon proper nouns only; the antisemitism/völkisch guardrails of Ch 74-76 are untouched by an Otherworld-ally beat (the ally is honored fairy-side myth, not family-side content).

Cross-type wiring notes (for the synthesis)

Do-not-invent / reveal check

Every chain is a beat inside a locked node; no chapter re-assigned, no numerology/naming invented. All deity beats are firewall-clean (deity-as-character; never a deity-name on a mortal NPC; never a revered/real figure as villain). Pre-Ch-38 instances (7/12/18/19/23/25/26/31) carry zero family/pattern valence. The one placement question (a literal embodied Baal-Hadad re-appearance) is resolved creative-within-vision as a felt-echo (no transplant) and is NOT surfaced as a blocking decision; if Josh wants it staged, its node placement is his call. No [DECISION NEEDED - JOSH] flag is raised by this type.
