Axis deliverable for the Realm Design Program (Josh directive 2026-07-27). This is the architecture
rule-set that makes "physics blending perfectly and harmoniously with metaphysical lore" a buildable,
gate-testable property rather than an aspiration. Read-only research pass; nothing in the repo was
modified. Register per CVD §17.14.
The following are canon facts read this pass, not assumptions. Every design claim below rests on one
of them.
physics. Vril alters real physical law rather than suspending it... Vril effects and real physical
law compose emergently; a cast changes the physics in play, it does not exempt the scene from it."
The harmony doctrine is therefore an EXPANSION of a locked vision, not new canon.
human-world atmosphere as encountered Ch 2 onward, varied in the mythological threshold realms
Ch 66-69, and recovers across path-specific Ch 70-77 outcomes." And: "the fairy realm's vril and the
human world's vril are the same substrate; the density differential is what produces dimensional
separation." The realms are one physics at different densities. That is the thesis clause.
keyed to Vril Sight tier visibility. The spine site rows use a near-identical enum (baseline, low,
moderate, high, anchor). No new density vocabulary is needed and none should be minted; the mismatch
between the two spellings is a real, small reconciliation item flagged in §9.
NOT monotonic. Ch 66-69 sit at high/anchor; Ch 70 Hades and Ch 71 Xibalba drop to low across every
site; Ch 72 climbs (CH_72 asserts "ws.atmospheric_vril_density_modifier: low at entry (the
realms-of-the-dead trough carried from Xibalba, the climb-out beginning here)" and "rising" at exit);
Ch 73-74 return to moderate/high/anchor; Ch 75 is the first full ceiling since Ch 1. The intensity
architecture in §5 is derived from these ruled numbers, not invented over them.
physical_properties_array (mass, thermal_state, conductivity), elemental_affinity (fire:enhance;
water:weaken), tactical_affordance_class, attack_verbs, loaded_potential, exposure_hazard,
enemy_usable, alteration_permanence_default, integrity_valence_skin, protected_care_ref. The realm
ruleset is this registry's sibling one scale up: per-world instead of per-feature, and it should
reuse the same micro-grammar so one parser serves both.
(has, flag, at, read, ws.key comparisons, boolean and/or) and a reference evaluator at
harness/condition_expr.py. Every metaphysical law trigger should be written in this grammar and
nothing else, so the laws are executable rather than described.
make vril_density a live runtime float on [0,1] with four coupled effects. The realm ruleset feeds
this existing dial; it does not introduce a parallel one.
triages, full-strength critics open findings and are the only tier that may close a bug, and
critic_read is ADVISORY and never gating. Every QA proposal in §6 respects that ladder.
of them are realm-specific: "no-enemy mythological realms (66-68)" and "faceless realm war (70-73)."
The critic rubrics in §6.4 are keyed to those named failures rather than to generic quality words.
A realm is not a place where physics stops. A realm is a place where a small, DECLARED set of
physical couplings is changed, every undeclared coupling runs exactly as it does on Earth, and the
change is derived from that tradition's own cosmology rather than from a designer's taste for the
strange. The metaphysical law of a realm is not an overlay on the physics; it is a term IN the physics
— an oath that binds adds a real constraint, a name that has weight adds a real mass, a realm where
the dead walk changes a real collision channel. Harmony is the measurable property that the
metaphysical and the physical are the same event described twice. Weirdness that is not in the
declared contract is a defect, and the machine can see it.
The nine mythological realms are not nine unrelated weirdnesses. Each is one culture's partial view of
one physics, and the fairy realm is the source that all nine partially express. This is not a new idea
imported into the game; it is the game's own convergence thesis (the fifteen vril-parallels describing
one substrate from fifteen vantages, T1_Vril §1 and §8) applied to physical law instead of to
perception. Two consequences bind the build.
physics toward the fairy realm's native state is a road bend and belongs to the gradient; a bend
that moves away is a local peculiarity and needs a stronger provenance case. The road should read as
a climb toward one truth, and the flag makes that claim checkable rather than asserted.
the only scenes that show the fairy realm's physics as ORDINARY, felt from inside by a being who has
never known anything else. You cannot author "ordinary" until the nine partial views exist to be the
thing it is ordinary relative to. Building the Prologue last is not merely a scheduling preference;
it is the only order in which that scene can be written correctly.
A realm ruleset is a DIFF against a declared baseline, never a new engine. The baseline is the human
world as encountered from Ch 2 onward. Everything not named in the diff runs the shipped simulation
unchanged. This is what makes nine realms affordable in a solo build: nine data rows over one physics,
not nine physics.
Every delta and every metaphysical law carries a resolvable citation to the source tradition's own
primary corpus. A delta without a citation is not a delta; it is invention wearing a realm's name, and
the gate rejects it. This is the same cited-or-cut firewall the rest of the repo runs on, applied to
physics. It is also the anti-slop mechanism with the most teeth: generic fantasy weirdness cannot
produce a citation.
Every metaphysical law must name the physical quantity it writes, and that name must resolve to
something real in the build — a gameplay attribute, a worldstate key, an environment-grammar property,
or a named subsystem. Prose does not satisfy it. If the answer to "what does this law physically do"
is "it glows," the law is an overlay and the row fails. This single requirement is what converts
"blends harmoniously" from a taste judgement into an arithmetic one, and it is deliberately keyed on
fields that exist, per the repo's own lesson that a check keyed on prose reports zero forever.
A realm's rules bind every actor in it: the player, the bosses, the companions and familiars, the
fauna, and the props. This is Josh's vril-physics ruling point 4 carried into the realms. A rule that
only affects the player is a gimmick with a costume on. The schema therefore defaults every law's
scope to all_actors, and a law scoped narrower must declare why in data, so the exception is visible
rather than silent.
Every law is taught before it can cost you anything, in a low-threat zone of the same realm, without a
line of tutorial text. Each realm's threshold zone is its tutorial by construction. This is the natural
voice doctrine applied to physics: the player learns the local law by watching the world obey it. The
schema carries taught_at as a site reference, and the gate asserts that site exists in that chapter and
carries ambient_threat none or low.
Some invariants hold in all ten realms or the player loses the ability to reason, and reasoning is the
whole pleasure of an immersive sim. The floor is short and absolute.
regionally, or run at different rates per zone; it never reverses the player's own action order.
an attempt achieves; they never change what an attempt was.
threshold intact. A realm may close a usual answer; it never confiscates the build.
vocabulary (dodge-only, parry-only, elemental-neutralize) keeps its meaning. Realms restyle these;
they do not invert them.
Every affordance a realm grants carries a matching demand, and the demand is authored, not derived from
the affordance. Rising vril must never read as a power ramp. The existing difficulty doctrine already
proves the pattern: the density dial changes four world-demand levers and nothing on the enemy sheet.
The realm ruleset extends the same discipline to the road as a whole, which is why the intensity
architecture in §5 tracks power and demand as two independent axes.
Recommendation: a new T0 registry, T0_Realm_Ruleset_Registry, as the machine layer, with the doctrine
owned by a new section in T1_Vril_and_Magic_System_Master (the natural home, since §1 already owns
"vril alters real physical law" and §10 owns depletion physics). The registry is the data the teeth
read; the tier doc is the authority that binds it.
The alternative of extending T0_Environment_Grammar_Registry was considered and rejected: that registry
is per-feature (a lava vent, a waterfall) and this is per-world, and overloading it would make the
env_feature_id key mean two things. The alternative of prose-only in the tier doc was rejected because
no tooth can read prose, and an untestable doctrine is the exact failure this axis exists to prevent.
Engine versus canon declaration, per the reuse standing order: the SCHEMA, the gate, the conformance
tests and the critic rubrics are ENGINE and transfer whole to the next game. The ROWS are CANON and do
not.
One row per realm. Eleven rows at completion: RLM_0000 the human-world baseline, RLM_0001 through
RLM_0009 the nine road realms in chapter order, RLM_0010 the fairy realm. Field families follow.
Identity and provenance.

in exactly one of the two arrays. A term in neither is an unanswered question and fails; a term in
both is a contradiction and fails. This partition is the single most important property in the
schema, because it is what turns "which earthly rules hold and which bend" from an authoring
intention into a machine-checkable completeness claim.

Standard tail, matching every other registry: canonical_authority, hard_line_anchors, notes, extensions.
RLM_0000 is the human world with an empty bends array. It looks like a wasted row and it is the most
load-bearing one in the registry. Without it, the conformance test in §6.2 has nothing to diff against
and would pass on any input — the exact "a search that cannot match reports zero" failure the repo has
already been burned by four times. The baseline row is the positive control, and the gate's must-fire
fixture is a mutated copy of it.
The golden-standard mandate says represent each culture's real malevolent beings and lore across three
layers. Applied to realm rulesets, a taboo is the most efficient carrier the program has: it is
simultaneously an action-layer constraint, a cultural teaching, and a cross-realm thread.
Hades is a facing-cone check on a follower actor. Do not eat the otherworld's food in Annwn is a
consumable that binds a time cost. Do not sit when the Lords of Xibalba offer the bench is a
perception check against a false actor with no thermal or vril signature. The taboo never appears as
a status icon named for itself; the player meets it as a fact about the world, per the no-mode-taxonomy
ruling that internal routing vocabulary never reaches a player surface.
people who keep it, how it is honored. This is the cultural ingestion lane, and it is where the care
doctrine's "care means weight and authenticity, never omission" actually gets paid.
FELT, never declared. The backward glance recurs across Orpheus, Lot's wife and Izanagi; the
otherworld-food prohibition recurs across Annwn, Persephone and countless fairy traditions; the
offering-before-drawing recurs at wells from Mímir to a hundred springs. The player who notices gets
the L3 payoff. No narrator ever says "cultures converge here" — the same discipline that reserves the
word chakra to the traditions that own it applies exactly here.
harness/check_no_dead_end.py, and the alternate_route field is mandatory and non-empty so the new
registry chains into the existing check rather than inventing a second one. A broken taboo opens a
harder, different path; it never closes the road.
buys something concrete at a real price. A prohibition with only a downside is a wall, and players
route around walls rather than feeling them.
removal. Xibalba's Lords are the K'iche' tradition's own antagonists and are therefore legitimate
bosses under the don't-defang bar; Vritra is the Rigveda's own chaos-serpent and is a boss for the
same reason. What the care band governs is not whether they are fought but how the living community
around the tradition is portrayed, which is the collective-protection reading of §17.1.
risk that the repo has already fought once: Atlantis and hyperdiffusionism, the Apsu's drowned
continents and lost-race theory, and Norse material and völkisch appropriation, the last being the
exact generalization of the vril-versus-Vril-Society firewall. WGM §15.2 records a residual
Hyperborea-Thule reference that had to be resolved at v2.3, which makes this a demonstrated drift
class rather than a hypothetical one, and §6.1 arms a tooth for it.
Atlantis's own metaphysical law can be its firewall. The realm refuses a claimant — the being who
arrives asserting descent from it, inheritance of it, or the right to speak for it is not recognized
and the threshold does not open. This is dramatically strong, it is exactly the integrity-as-recognition
frame the spine already rules for Ch 66, and it converts the anti-hyperdiffusionist duty of care from a
list of forbidden phrases into a playable law the player experiences from the inside. Care discipline
that becomes a mechanic is care discipline that survives the build.
Reading the ruled vril_density values across CH_66 through CH_75 produces a shape, and it is a good
one. Ch 66 through 69 sit at high and anchor. Ch 70 Hades drops every site to low. Ch 71 Xibalba holds
the floor. Ch 72 enters low, crosses moderate at the weighing place, hits anchor at the world axis and
exits rising. Ch 73 Annwn runs moderate to high. Ch 74 Yggdrasil runs high to anchor. Ch 75 is the
first full ceiling since Ch 1. A naive "make each realm bigger than the last" architecture would
contradict ruled canon; the actual shape is a plateau, a trough at the realms of the dead, a climb-out,
and a ceiling.
Intensity is not power. The road works because power and demand move independently.
ceiling. It is already gated by the spine's ws.atmospheric_vril_density_modifier seams.
regresses.
The mid-road trough is therefore the intensity PEAK of the road, not a lull: the demand keeps
climbing while the power collapses, and the answer stops being force. Xibalba, where the myth's own
heroes win by wit rather than strength, is the correct floor for that trough, and canon already put
it there.
ceiling. Awe and difficulty are not the same instrument and should not be tuned as one.
the highest awe. It is the only point on the arc where nothing is withheld, which is precisely why
nothing before it may reach that state.
Each realm introduces exactly ONE signature law and at most two supporting deltas, and from Ch 68
onward each realm reprises at least two laws already learned. By Ch 74 the player is fluently juggling
eight learned laws. The fairy realm then lands as sovereign not because it adds a ninth novelty but
because it is the place where every law the road taught is simply the local weather. That is the
payoff structure Law 0 predicts, and it is measurable straight off the registry: count signature laws
per realm, count reprise_of references per realm.
The budget is as important as the compounding. Unlimited novelty per realm produces nine tech demos;
one signature law plus reprises produces a road.
These are compact worked examples proving the schema carries real content, drawn from each tradition's
own cosmology and from what the spine already rules. They are candidates for the authoring wave, not
ratified rows.

archive that Ch 67 already is. Taboo: singing what you do not know, where a false provenance backfires
as a wrongly-specified constraint.

wit beats power because power is gone.
climb is a real reorientation across concentric shells), time (the yuga rungs run at different rates,
which the existing clock tooth already measures as dilation), fluid (the seven rivers under Vritra's

well and it is enforced later, which is the myth's own norn-thread and also, precisely, the spine's
existing mark_write forward_track mechanism with its consumer-continuity gate. The tradition's law and
the repo's machinery are the same object.

Phase-5M/5H run build-space sweeps. The realm surface inherits it with one addition. Sweep every
canonical build archetype against every realm and assert each archetype clears the realm by at least two
distinct routes. The design rule the sweep encodes is the difference between a ruleset and a wall: a
realm may INVERT a build's usual answer — that is the entire point of a ruleset, and the trough realms
depend on it — but it may never close every answer a build owns. Your usual answer is shut and another
of your own answers opens. A realm that only one build clears is a balance defect exactly as a
never-picked bonus is.

Unchanged and binding: before any realm play-quality claim enters a commit message, a report, or a

A realm is a declared diff over one physics, derived from one tradition's own cosmology, whose
metaphysical laws are terms in the simulation rather than effects layered over it; the nine realms are
nine partial views of the fairy realm's native state, the road's intensity comes from demand rising
while power troughs and then climbs, and the whole thing is testable because the diff, the citations,
the physical expressions and the taught-before-lethal contract are all data the teeth can read.
