Foundation 3-layer enhancement roadmap (Ch-wide, all tiers)
Source: the corpus-wide foundation audit (wf_76cd7a9d-2c3), 6 lenses, run under Josh's 3-layer + guardrail directive (2026-07-08). Each item: target · layer · priority · weakness · proposed enhancement · real grounding · guardrail check. Guardrail = real science/history/lore, NO fringe/cult/racist drift; the enhancements actively COUNTER the erase-achievement skew.
current: Anti-coasting is enforced by HL_0048 (no-coasting), HL_0049 (no two consecutive same dominant mode; ≥3 distinct modes per 5-chapter window), and mode_variety_check's five booleans (combat/puzzle/learning/character/transformation). An environmental perception boss with 'damage impossible by design' still scores combat:true.
weakness: The rules guarantee VARIETY but not a kinetic MINIMUM. A chapter can pass every anti-staleness rule while every actual fight resolves through perceive/pacify/restraint — Ch 10 nearly does, carrying its whole kinetic load on a single optional fauna sub-boss. 'combat present' ≠ 'a satisfying kinetic fight present', so Josh's 'action-packed in every chapter' mandate is unfalsifiable at the data layer — the exact class of gap CANON_AUDIT named its #1 headline (pillar tests unfalsifiable because the anchor field doesn't record what matters).
enhancement: Add a per-chapter kinetic_floor invariant to mode_variety_check: every chapter (except the Pro/Ch1/Epi fairy-realm traversal bookends) must carry ≥1 genuinely kinetic encounter — win-condition HP or part-break, weapon-and-ability engagement — whether main or sub. Make it a machine-checked gate that runs alongside HL_0049 in the cascade, so 'action-packed every chapter' becomes a falsifiable test and perception/pacify chapters cannot silently go kinetically empty.
grounding: CVD §1 genre identity ('action-adventure fantasy RPG') + Pillar 12 'Layer 1 Surface — coherent action RPG' (CVD L244) + Josh's standing ruling (CANON_AUDIT 2026-07-03: 'L1 must be action-packed and playable in every chapter'). Design-craft grounded in the document's own genre commitment.
guardrail: Pure systems/pacing invariant — introduces no cultural content, no pseudo-archaeology, no villainization. Holds Pillar 8 (a floor of ≥1 kinetic encounter is not 'every boss is a DPS check'; blended-mode doctrine still binds) and Pillar 3/§17.1 (the floor is satisfiable by a permitted-fauna or oppressor-intrusion fight at protected chapters, never combat against protected people).
[P0] [L1] docs/proposals/boss_roster_rows.json + ROSTER_PROPOSALS.md §2.2 — the 75-row main-chapter-boss roster (still a proposal, not registry-populated)
lens: L1 Action / Playability — every chapter
current: Tallying the 75 proposed main-boss win conditions: ~27 resolve by pacify (social/exposure), ~19 by perceive/attune/restraint (environmental/perception), and only ~22 by HP/part-break (kinetic). So the CULMINATING main boss — the chapter's narrative peak — is won non-kinetically in roughly 60% of chapters.
weakness: In an action-RPG the chapter's peak should be its kinetic crescendo; here a majority of peaks are the LEAST-kinetic beat (an exposé 'drag the ledger into daylight', a negotiation/pacify, or a stand-still perception ritual), with kinetics relegated to the sub-boss foothills. This inverts the kinetic topography against the narrative topography and risks the L1 surface feeling anticlimactic chapter after chapter — the 'thin/passive on the action layer' and 'over-reliance where a grounded real antagonist would be more engaging' risk this lens exists to catch.
enhancement: Rebalance the roster so a clear majority of chapters CULMINATE in a kinetic main boss (HP/part-break primary blended with a non-kinetic secondary per Pillar 8), reserving a non-kinetic main-boss climax for chapters where it is thematically load-bearing (the §17.1 protected chapters, the 3 relief valleys, the ~9 environmental landmarks, the modern financial-thesis chapters). Where a chapter's thesis genuinely wants an exposé/perception climax, require a kinetic sub-boss to carry the chapter's peak INTENSITY so it still crescendos kinetically. The roster is unratified — now is the moment, before the cascade inherits the distribution 75 times.
grounding: CVD §16 mountain-range pacing (every chapter has a peak the narrative gravity points toward) + Pillar 12 L1 'coherent action RPG' + Josh's L1-action-packed ruling; standard action-RPG craft (the Sekiro/Elden Ring/God of War chapter-peak design the COMBAT_ENCOUNTER_SYSTEM doc itself benchmarks against in Part B §1).
guardrail: Rebalancing verbs is a systems/pacing change with no cultural-representation impact. Explicitly PRESERVES the §17.1 and relief/environmental non-kinetic climaxes where they are culturally load-bearing — it does not force combat into protected sanctuaries. Holds Pillar 8 (kinetic mains still blend a secondary verb; no pure DPS checks) and the do-not-invent rule (specific chapter/boss assignments stay Josh's; this proposes a distribution target, not named reassignments).
[P0] [cross] docs/ — a new ESOTERIC_GROUNDING.md (T99-operational), paralleling docs/SCIENCE_GROUNDING.md, wired to T1_Threads_22 + Vril §8 + CVD §2/§3
lens: L3 OCCULT / THREADS / RABBIT-HOLES — the
current: SCIENCE_GROUNDING.md gives the physical substrate (physics/chem/bio/earth) a rigorous real-science floor UNDER the metaphysical-as-real design. There is no parallel document for the esoteric/philosophical substrate. The real academic apparatus IS already in the RCM bibliography — Faivre 'Access to Western Esotericism', Hanegraaff 'Esotericism and the Academy: Rejected Knowledge', Scholem, Burkert 'Ancient Mystery Cults', Iamblichus, Plotinus 'Enneads' — but these live only as 'needed' book rows cross-listed to Ch 23/27; they are never wired into the thread definitions, the L3 grounding, or the built spine entries.
weakness: L3 is explicitly 'the 22 threads, the occult, the rabbit holes' yet has no rigorous grounding-discipline document. The corpus owns the sources; the L3 layer doesn't use them. Without a governing esoteric-grounding law paralleling the science one, per-chapter L3 authoring across 77 chapters has no non-credulous scholarly substrate to draw on and will drift toward either genericness or fringe credulity — exactly what §19.1 fought.
enhancement: Author ESOTERIC_GROUNDING.md stating the governing rule ('the metaphysical-as-real sits ON TOP OF the rigorously-studied real esoteric tradition, treated as historical/phenomenological fact, never as fringe truth-claim') and mapping each occult thread to its academic-field anchor: Western Esotericism studies (Faivre's four characteristics; Hanegraaff's 'rejected knowledge' framework) as the meta-discipline and the primary guardrail; the real transmission histories; and the phenomenological-vs-truth-claim distinction. It becomes the L3 analogue the /spine-chapter skill consults, and it operationalizes books the corpus already lists.
grounding: Antoine Faivre, 'Access to Western Esotericism' (SUNY 1994); Wouter Hanegraaff, 'Esotericism and the Academy: Rejected Knowledge in Western Culture' (Cambridge 2012) — both already in the RCM. The ESSWE / journal Aries academic field studies exactly this material rigorously and non-credulously.
guardrail: Strengthens the CVD pillars and §17: Western Esotericism studies is a mainstream, peer-reviewed academic discipline whose entire methodology is to study occult traditions historically/phenomenologically without endorsing their truth-claims — the ideal guardrail. Introduces zero pseudo-archaeology/cult/racist content; Hanegraaff's book is specifically about how NOT to fall into that. Invents no canon (proposes how real scholarship grounds existing threads, per the SCIENCE_GROUNDING method).
[P0] [L3] T1_Threads_22_Master_References §3 (THE 16 MINOR THREADS) — Threads 7-22, especially 8/9/10/12/15/16/19
lens: L3 OCCULT / THREADS / RABBIT-HOLES — the
current: The 6 Major Threads each get 50-80 lines: full per-chapter arcs, philosophical-depth sub-sections, convergence and framework-level resolution. The 16 Minor Threads — which are the actual esoteric/occult veins — get a fraction. Thread 10 (Mother Goddess) is one paragraph of names; Thread 15 (Twin/Duality) is a bare list of pairs (Inanna/Ereshkigal, Horus/Set...); Thread 16 (Dream/Astral) is ~8 lines; Thread 19 (Eschaton) is a name-list. No arc, no cross-cultural mechanism, no resolution framework.
weakness: The threads a depth-player chases hardest are the thinnest. A name-list is not a rabbit-hole. The disparity means the cascade builder has rich structured guidance for serpent/vril/antagonist but almost nothing for the occult minor threads, so those will be authored generically or skipped — the L3 layer's own promise ('the deep dive, the rabbit holes') is structurally under-provisioned.
enhancement: Bring the top minor/occult threads (8 Mystery Schools, 9 Alchemy, 12 Divination, 15 Twin/Duality, 16 Dream/Astral, 19 Eschaton) up to Major-Thread structural parity: a cross-cultural MECHANISM statement, an ordered per-chapter arc, a philosophical-depth sub-section grounded in named scholarship, and a framework-level resolution note. Each thread should read as a developed vein, not an index.
grounding: Per-thread real scholarship already in or addable to the RCM (see the thread-specific entries below): Burkert for mystery cults, Principe/Newman for alchemy, Scholem for Kabbalah, Corbin for the imaginal. This is structural build-out of existing canon, not new canon.
guardrail: Deepening real cross-cultural traditions with named academic sources is the CVD's authenticity contract (§4.1). No fringe introduced; each expansion is anchored to peer-reviewed scholarship. Holds §17.1 (respectful, primary-source-grounded) and Pillar 12 (L3 depth).
current: Four live canon locations encode the Nazca geoglyphs as 'Nazca lines read as landing diagram at astral-projection scope' (T4 antagonist canon + the structured Antagonist_Network registry row NW_0048), and WGM Ch 51 pairs 'read as landing diagram via astral' with 'read as coordinate system... Anthony Aveni research.' The real archaeoastronomy anchor (Aveni) is present but sits directly beside the 'landing diagram' phrase.
weakness: 'Landing diagram' is the textbook von Daniken ancient-aliens reading of Nazca — the single clearest instance of the exact racist pseudo-archaeology trope the CVD §19 Frame-A reframe exists to purge, and it is sitting LIVE in the antagonist canon and a structured registry (i.e. it will propagate into every downstream build that reads those rows). It erases the achievement of the Nazca/Paracas peoples by implying the lines were made for external (alien) craft, directly violating §6/§17.1 (no exoticization, credit the culture's own achievement) and undercutting the constitutional reframe. SCIENCE_GROUNDING flags it as 'von-Daniken DNA' on the physics axis but only for Vril §7; the T4 + registry instances are unaddressed.
enhancement: Strike 'landing diagram' everywhere. Reframe the in-world fiction so the geoglyphs are a Nazca/Paracas-authored astronomical-sightline and ritual-pathway system that the protagonist perceives (via vril-sight) as encoding a real-in-world coordinate pointing toward the Atacama Vimana site — the metaphysical-as-real routing is preserved, but the lines are the Nazca people's own achievement, never an external landing strip. Keep and lead with the Aveni anchor; the Velheim 'read as coordinate system' operation routes through the real archaeoastronomy, with the alien-runway reading explicitly barred (and, if desired, depicted as a fringe misreading the Velheim exploit — never the game's own voice).
grounding: Anthony Aveni, Between the Lines (2000) — astronomical/calendrical line studies; Maria Reiche's astronomical-alignment work; Helaine Silverman & Donald Proulx, The Nasca (2002) — ritual-procession pathways + water/fertility cult + the subterranean puquios; the Inca ceque system of Cuzco sight-lines (Cobo; R.T. Zuidema) as the real 'lines-as-coordinate-encoding' substrate. All consensus archaeology attributing the geoglyphs to the Nazca/Paracas and the ceque to the Inca.
guardrail: Grounded entirely in real Andean archaeoastronomy and consensus attribution to indigenous makers; REMOVES the ancient-aliens/racist-erasure reading rather than introducing one; preserves Layer-3 metaphysical-as-real (the lines encode a real in-world coordinate) while crediting indigenous achievement per §6/§17.1 and Component 10's 'ancient peoples were as intelligent as we are.' No fringe/cult content added; holds Pillars 5/12 and §19 Frame-A.
[P0] [cross] T1_CVD §2 (Core Thesis) + §3 Components 1 & 3 (Origin / Cultural convergence); a new §19-style thesis-discipline note
lens: CVD Pillars + Fringe/Cult/Racist Reframe
current: Component 1 posits 'an advanced civilization existed before the great floods'; Component 3 ('Cultural convergence') describes the mechanism as survivors who 'carried knowledge globally, mating with local populations and embedding pre-deluvian frameworks within emerging cultural traditions.' §2's consciousness-substrate thesis separately explains convergence as all minds accessing the same substrate.
weakness: Component 3 is NAMED 'convergence' (Frame A: independent traditions converge because they access a shared substrate) but DESCRIBED as diffusion (Frame-B-adjacent: a single advanced source-civilization physically carried and 'embedded' frameworks into 'local populations'). That is latent hyperdiffusionism — structurally the G. Elliot Smith / W.J. Perry 'heliolithic' model in which one superior civilization taught the world, the discredited trope most directly tied to the racist erasure of independent indigenous invention. The game's own §2 consciousness-substrate thesis makes the physical-diffusion mechanism unnecessary; if a build agent leans on the transmission reading, every cross-cultural convergence gets explained as 'inherited from the pre-deluvian source' rather than 'independently achieved,' which is exactly the guardrail's named failure mode. Nothing at the thesis layer explicitly privileges convergence-via-shared-substrate over inheritance-from-a-superior-source.
enhancement: Add an explicit thesis-level discipline note (in §2 or as a short §19.x reframe entry) stating: the convergence is canonically read as shared-substrate-access PLUS independent local development (Frame A) — NEVER as hyperdiffusion/inheritance from a superior source; every chapter credits the depicted culture's own agency and invention (Component 10 principle extended thesis-wide). Reframe Component 3's mechanism so physical dispersal carries MEMORY (flood-myth, story, the Thread-4 record) rather than 'embedding frameworks' into 'local populations,' and foreground the substrate-convergence reading as the primary explanation of the parallels.
grounding: The real, documented anthropological critique of hyperdiffusionism: G. Elliot Smith & W.J. Perry's Egyptocentric 'heliolithic' diffusionism and its rejection by 20th-c. anthropology in favor of independent invention / multilineal cultural evolution (Franz Boas' historical-particularism critique of unilineal/diffusionist schemes; the mainstream consensus on convergent independent development). The specific documented harm — hyperdiffusion erasing indigenous achievement — is the task's own named guardrail.
guardrail: This finding IS the master guardrail applied to the thesis core; it strengthens the reframe (privileging substrate-convergence over transmission) and cites real discredited-diffusionism scholarship. It does not invent canon — it disambiguates an existing internal tension toward the Frame-A reading the CVD already commits to (Component 9 was reframed for exactly this reason). Holds §2/§4.1/Component 10 and Pillar 12's anti-erasure test.
current: T0_Weapon_Registry is a title-only stub with 0 rows. The 72-weapon roster (36 Brute + 36 Trickery) is a generic ARPG type taxonomy — Axe 1H/2H, Long Sword, Rapier, Scimitar, Katana, Shotgun, Rifle, Whip, Nunchuks, Boomerang — with only a handful of region-authentic names (Xiphos, Katana, Chakram, Madu, Kastane, Kris implied via thread). A corpus-wide grep shows urumi, katar, keris(spelled), khopesh, iklwa/assegai, kpinga, atlatl, taiaha, patu, shamshir, talwar, kilij, kukri, kusarigama, guandao, macana ALL absent from the entire _source tree.
weakness: Arms are the single most player-visible L2 material-culture layer, and here they are both unpopulated (registry = 0 rows) and generically abstracted (roster). Pillar 10's executable test ('region without combat modifier table = pillar violation') is data-unfalsifiable, and the game's marquee destination weapons don't exist in canon. The gap bites even the best-built chapter: CH_07.md — the wootz-steel Blacksmithing home AND the kalaripayattu home — explicitly records 'chapter_anchored_weapon_add none', so South India contributes zero weapons despite owning the two most iconic South Indian arms (the urumi flexible whip-sword and the katar push-dagger).
enhancement: Populate T0_Weapon_Registry and use the sanctioned swap-in + '2-to-add' levers (Brute/Trickery counts stay immutably 36/36 per the spec) to seat region-authentic weapons at their home chapters: urumi + katar at Ch 7 South India; keris/kris as the Ch 2-4 Indonesian blade; macuahuitl (obsidian sword-club) + atlatl at Ch 47 Mesoamerica (one Brute add-slot is already earmarked Ch 47-48); khopesh at Ch 15 Egypt; iklwa/assegai short stabbing spear for southern Africa (Ch 13); kpinga multi-blade throwing knife for Nubia/Central Africa (Ch 14/40); shamshir or talwar at Ch 19 Persia; taiaha/mere for Pacific nodes. Attach the already-defined schema fields materials_construction and length_weight (present in T0_Schema_Dictionary) so the metallurgy substrate binds to the blade (wootz ~1.5%C crucible, tatara tamahagane, tumbaga).
grounding: George Cameron Stone, A Glossary of the Construction, Decoration and Use of Arms and Armor; Robert Elgood, Hindu Arms and Ritual (urumi, katar, South Indian temple arms); Ross Hassig, Aztec Warfare (macuahuitl, atlatl); Donn F. Draeger, Weapons and Fighting Arts of Indonesia (keris); Sharada Srinivasan & S. Ranganathan, India's Legendary Wootz Steel.
guardrail: All real, documented arms-and-armour and archaeometallurgy scholarship. Centering the actual weapons non-Western cultures engineered (wootz predating European crucible steel; obsidian macuahuitl edges sharper than steel) IS the CVD's anti-pseudo-archaeology reframe made concrete — not fringe. No AIATSIS-restricted or ceremonial-protected object is reproduced; weapons route to combat against oppressors/antagonists/fauna, never protected communities (§17.1). Holds Pillars 8, 10.
[P0] [cross] T1_Research_Corpus_Master verified-canon paragraphs (per chapter) + Trade 4 Herbalism / Trade 5 Alchemy substrate + a new structured toxica field
lens: L2 Material Culture + Praxis — trade (10
current: Poison/toxicology is a near-total null across the corpus. Grep of all _source: curare, aconite, hemlock, calabar, visha, agada, tetrodotoxin/fugu, Locusta, Diamphidia, strychnos, aqua tofana, belladonna, visha kanya = 0 hits each. The word 'poison' appears twice, both the novel The Poisonwood Bible; 'venom', 'toxin', 'antidote' = 0.
weakness: Poisons are one of the five praxis domains Josh explicitly named, and the corpus represents essentially none — a sanitized void. Poison is a richly documented material culture (pharmacology, hunting, warfare, jurisprudence, statecraft) at nearly every destination, and it is the natural dark-twin of the Herbalism home base — same plant knowledge heals and kills. CH_07 already gestures at this with the marma-assassin ('the same knowledge heals and kills') but never extends it to an actual materia toxica.
enhancement: Seed a per-region poison/materia-toxica line into the RCM verified-canon paragraphs and the Herbalism/Alchemy substrate, plus a structured toxica field reusable with the materia medica of Finding 5: Amazon Ch 50 curare (Chondrodendron/Strychnos blow-dart poison) + timbó fish poison; Ch 7 South India Ayurvedic agada tantra (visha — one of Ayurveda's eight branches; Sushruta's Kalpasthana) + the visha kanya statecraft legend; Ch 23 Greece hemlock (death of Socrates); Ch 28 Rome the poisoner Locusta; Ch 10/11 San arrow-poison from Diamphidia beetle larvae; Ch 12/39 West Africa the Calabar-bean ordeal poison; Renaissance-Europe aqua tofana. Lethal use routes to antagonists/oppressors/hunting-fauna; the pharmacology routes to Herbalism/Alchemy mastery.
grounding: Wade Davis, One River (already a Ch 50 Tier-1 source — documents curare preparation); the isolation of d-tubocurarine (Harold King 1935; Griffith & Johnson 1942 surgical use); Sushruta Samhita Kalpasthana (agada tantra) and Kautilya's Arthashastra (visha kanya); Plato, Phaedo (hemlock/Conium); Tacitus & Suetonius (Locusta); Caroline S. Chaboo et al. on San Diamphidia arrow-poison ethnoentomology; Robert Christison (1855) on the Calabar bean (Physostigma venenosum).
guardrail: Real toxicology/ethnobotany/history; centering indigenous pharmacological sophistication (curare → modern anesthesia; San arrow-poison chemistry) is guardrail-POSITIVE, the opposite of primitivizing. HARD CAUTION: do NOT route Haiti/Vodou tetrodotoxin material through the 'zombie powder' trope — that is a §17.1 hard line ('no Vodou-as-zombie-horror'); any Haiti poison stays documented pharmacology/foodway and is never sensationalized. No poison villainizes a protected community; benevolent healing traditions remain healing.
current: The 22-thread cross-cultural spine — the flagship L2/P5 discovery mechanic — is composed entirely of mythological, occult, and ritual motifs: Serpent, Flood Memory, Dying-Rising God, Tree/World-Axis, Sacred Geometry, Oracle/Divination, Mystery Schools, Mother Goddess, Blood & Sacrifice, Sacred Scripts, Sacred Mountains, End-of-World, Sacred Objects, Music, Sacred Stones, Trickster, Numerology (enumerated for Egypt at Threads_22 lines 1054-1071). Sacred Geometry (13) glances architecture and Sacred Scripts (17) glances writing, but nothing carries science, mathematics, law, political institutions, technology, or statecraft.
weakness: There is no structural lane for the civilizational-achievement dimension of culture that Josh's L2 directive explicitly names ('history, ... trade, ... medicines, ... weapons, war, politics, ... and the significant marks it left on the world'). Because the cross-cultural engine only rewards myth/ritual pattern-matching, the 'hard marks' — algebra, the decimal system, movable type, Roman law, the printing press, empires and their bureaucracies, the Timbuktu manuscript tradition — are systematically thin or absent across the corpus (confirmed by full-tree greps below), and the shortfall lands disproportionately on non-Western civilizations. The net representational effect — India as yogis, China as Taoist sages/Shaolin, the Islamic world as fire-temples and Sufis, sub-Saharan Africa as forest-shamans and slavery-victims — is exactly the 'erase indigenous/non-Western achievement' skew the CVD guardrail exists to prevent, produced not by any single chapter but by the shape of the substrate.
enhancement: Do NOT add a 23rd thread (thread count = 22 is locked numerical canon, Josh's call). Instead instrument the achievement register two ways: (1) add a mandatory L2 spine-schema field 'civilizational_marks' (documented science / mathematics / law / political institution / technology / monument the culture gave the world) so every chapter must surface its people as builders-of-knowledge, not only as bearers-of-myth; (2) open a Cross_Cultural_Link_Graph link-class for knowledge-transmission chains (e.g., Indian numerals -> House of Wisdom -> Córdoba/Toledo -> European Renaissance; Chinese paper -> Talas 751 -> Samarkand -> Baghdad -> Europe) that reward the same way mythological links do. Existing threads 13 (Sacred Geometry) and 17 (Sacred Scripts) can carry the overflow where a mark is architectural or scriptural. Surface Josh a note that the myth-only thread taxonomy is the root cause of the per-region gaps below.
grounding: Josh's 2026-07-08 three-layer directive (L2 = 'fully ingesting the culture — its history, ... trade, ... medicines, poisons, weapons, war, politics, geography, and the significant marks it left on the world'); CVD §6.1 'documented sources are the substrate' and §19 anti-Frame-B reframe onto real capability; CVD §17.11 fixes thread count at 22.
guardrail: Purely additive of real, documented achievement (science/law/tech/statecraft); introduces no fringe/cult/pseudo-archaeology and actively counters the erase-achievement racism the CVD warns of; respects the locked 22-thread number by using a schema field + link-class rather than a new thread; villainizes no one; upholds Pillars 5/7/9 and §17.1/§17.11.
[P0] [L3] T0_School_Registry (0 rows) + no owning tier doc
lens: ALL-TIER POPULATION HEALTH
current:
weakness: P4 flagship with empty registry and no owning doc; pillar test unfalsifiable
enhancement: Create T1_Mystery_Schools_Master and populate the ~13 schools at CVD line 189
grounding: Walter Burkert Ancient Mystery Cults; Gershom Scholem; Israel Regardie The Golden Dawn
guardrail: Real initiatory institutions; Ch66-69 use reframed substrate not Theosophy; holds sec17
[P1] [L1] Ch 39-50 boss rows (boss_roster_rows.json) + the modern-arc exemplars docs/proposals/exemplars/CH42_exemplar.md, CH43_exemplar.md
lens: L1 Action / Playability — every chapter
current: The modern arc's main bosses are institutional/financial abstractions — 'The Biopiracy Concern', 'The Conflict-Minerals Ledger', 'The Debt Engine', 'The Distribution Chain' (opioid), 'The Founding Ledger' (Fed), 'The False Documentary', 'The Pipeline Concession', 'The Recorded Coup' — resolved by expose/decode/infiltrate/pacify with puzzle-forward (45-55% Puzzles) axis splits. The Ch 42 exemplar mitigates with a kinetic oppressor SUB-boss (Foudre-Sèche, 1791 slaver) and intrusion waves, but the present-day MAIN climax is 'switch off the Debt Engine by exposure.'
weakness: Chapter after chapter of 'investigate the corporate/financial villain → gather documents → expose in daylight' gives the modern world a thin, homogeneous action identity; the L1 surface of the whole modern arc risks reading as a run of investigation-and-exposé missions. The antagonists are literally named as concepts, not embodied kinetic foes — the peak is a switch, not a fight.
enhancement: For the modern arc, promote an embodied kinetic MORTAL antagonist to the main-peak role more often — the institution's enforcement arm made flesh: the extraction-site security chief, the private-military-contractor commander, the cartel/sicario enforcer, the poaching-syndicate boss, the coup's field officer. Keep the exposé as the RESOLUTION/denouement, but let the kinetic boss be the PEAK. Preserves the anti-extraction thesis (the system is the real villain) while giving the modern arc a real fight identity.
grounding: Real documented modern realities — the private-military/security-contractor industry (academic and journalistic literature on PMCs), cartel enforcement structures, extractive-industry security forces, poaching syndicates, and the documented 1954 Guatemala PBSUCCESS coup already cited at the Ch 49 row. All real and non-conspiratorial.
guardrail: Grounds embodied antagonists in the documented historical/contemporary record, NOT in ancient-aliens/lost-race/conspiracy framing. Reinforces (never undoes) the CVD discipline of overlaying the fictional Velheim metaphysical layer onto REAL documented extraction: real events (colonial indemnity, biopiracy, the coup) stay factual; the fantasy family stays a clearly-fictional overlay — never a claim that real history was secretly run by a hidden cabal in a way that reads as real-world conspiracy theory. No benevolent/protected figure villainized; protected communities remain those the player defends.
[P1] [cross] Cross-corpus: boss_roster_rows.json (main/sub) + T0_Creature_Roster (folklore_behavior_substrate columns) + the per-chapter §8 fauna/folklore layer in docs/COMBAT_ENCOUNTER_SYSTEM.md
lens: L1 Action / Playability — every chapter
current: Embodied genuinely-malevolent-folklore-being bosses appear in only a couple of places — Ch 6 'The False Naga' (perceive→part-break) and Ch 26 'The Possessed Clan-Leader / Strigoi Containment' (purge/dodge). The overwhelming majority of antagonists are human institutional figures or nameless environmental manifestations. CVD Pillar 12 L3 promises 'mythological creature as real fauna', and the 3-layer design explicitly authorizes 'a genuinely evil/harmful supernatural being may be a real antagonist' — but this is barely tapped.
weakness: A huge L1 variety resource (kinetic monster-hunting) AND the L3 'metaphysical-is-real' payoff go underused, while the verb mix over-concentrates on expose/pacify/perceive. The Creature_Roster carries folklore_behavior_substrate/attribution columns but no malevolent-being boss vein is systematized — the game defensively routes around embodied supernatural antagonists rather than delivering its own promise.
enhancement: Systematically mine each region's DOCUMENTED, tradition-native malevolent folklore for embodied kinetic monster-boss encounters (main or sub), treated as literally-real per L3, to diversify the verb mix and deliver the 'mythological creature as real fauna' promise with zero exposition. Ch 6's 'false/corrupted' framing is the model where a normally-benevolent being is nearby. Candidate veins (all real, tradition-named malefic beings): Orcadian/Scottish each-uisge & nuckelavee; Mesopotamian Lamashtu / Utukkū-Lemnūtu demon class; Japanese yokai (jorogumo, gashadokuro); Greek Empusa/Lamia/Mormo; Slavic rusalka/vodyanoy alongside the strigoi already used.
grounding: Named ethnographic/primary sources: Bleek & Lloyd (San); Katharine Briggs 'A Dictionary of Fairies' (1976) and Walter Traill Dennison's Orkney folklore (each-uisge, nuckelavee); the Lamashtu incantation tablets / Utukkū Lemnūtu series and F.A.M. Wiggermann's Assyriology; Lafcadio Hearn 'Kwaidan' (1904) and Toriyama Sekien's yokai encyclopedias; the classical sources for Empusa/Lamia (Aristophanes; Philostratus, 'Life of Apollonius'); W.F. Ryan 'The Bathhouse at Midnight' (Slavic).
guardrail: STRICT scope discipline: only a tradition's OWN named malefic beings (the culture itself frames them as harmful), each anchored to a real named source; NEVER a benevolent deity, culture-hero, ancestor-spirit, or protected/sacred figure recast as villain (Ch 6's real naga stays benevolent; the antagonist is the FALSE one). For living-belief traditions (SE-Asian aswang/pontianak, any Indigenous being) apply the §17.1 high-care gate and the Vodou-is-not-zombie-horror discipline — represent as the community understands it, never as horror-othering. STRENGTHENS the CVD's real-mythology grounding (no invented cryptids-as-fact, no pseudo-archaeology) rather than drifting into fringe.
[P1] [L1] T1_Combat_System_Spec (mode #6 familiar-leveraged combat) + T0_Familiar_Registry / T0_Creature_Roster (DRAFT stubs) + CVD §12.2; Gap 3.9 in docs/COMBAT_ENCOUNTER_SYSTEM.md
lens: L1 Action / Playability — every chapter
current: Familiar-leveraged combat is one of the seven canonical modes (CVD L661) and the spine entries lovingly track the bonded roster (Shell, Kira, Khan, Bodhi, Kasa, Msafiri, Desta…), but Gap 3.9 confirms NO mechanics exist for how a bonded familiar fights, commands, or contributes to an encounter. The only concrete instance is the Ch 73 TGP-exclusive paired-operation. 33 legendary species + 22 familiar slots are numerical canon with zero combat-behavior spec.
weakness: A whole promised L1 combat mode — and a whole beloved-companion spectacle layer the narrative leans on heavily — has no playable definition, so 'familiar-leveraged combat' is a checkbox, not an action. This under-powers L1 both in mechanical variety and in the emotional-companion register that modern action-RPGs (God of War's Atreus; bond/creature systems) invest in most.
enhancement: Spec the familiar-combat layer: INT-tiered autonomous behaviours (mark / flush / screen / retrieve, performed on the familiar's own read of the fight and never issued by the player -- the player-to-ally order channel is RULED DEAD, Josh RULED 2026-07-30 (twenty-eighth sitting, item J4), and the player's lever is DIRECT CONTROL by switching to the ally instead), a paired-operation synergy mechanic generalized from the canon Ch 73 beat (a bonded familiar opens a Composure sub-node no solo verb can reach), and per-species combat roles tied to the Ground/Flight/Water taxonomy (Ground = flanking/pursuit, Flight = recon/aerial-harass, Water = submerged control). Make 'familiar' a real Composure-breaking mode in the boss engine, not a named-only mode.
grounding: Real documented human-animal working partnerships — Central Asian and Arab falconry, war-dogs, Chinese/Japanese cormorant fishing, and the actual ethology of pack-hunting canids and raptors — plus the game's own 33-species Ground/Flight/Water canon (CVD §17.12).
guardrail: Grounds in real working-animal traditions and real ethology; no fringe content, no cultural misrepresentation. Legendary/folkloric species behavior stays anchored to the Creature_Roster folklore_behavior_substrate columns (real attribution), honoring the real-fauna/real-folklore discipline; introduces no villainization.
[P1] [L1] Ch 36 / 37 / 38 boss rows (boss_roster_rows.json) — the Atlantic midpoint approach
lens: L1 Action / Playability — every chapter
current: Ch 36 (env-st, perceive/attune), Ch 37 (env-st, attune/restraint) and Ch 38 (cap-env, restraint→purgation) are three consecutive environmental/perception main bosses — the 'staircase' teaching the Ch 38 Azores exam. The biome is naval (galleon combat Ch 32-37 per T1_Combat L328). CANON_AUDIT already flagged Ch 35-37 as a topography hotspot.
weakness: The MIDPOINT — which §16 pacing marks as one of the arc's biggest peaks — is delivered as three stand-still perception/restraint main beats in a row. At the L1 layer the game's structural centre is its least-kinetic stretch; sub-bosses supply variety but the three main peaks coast on one non-kinetic mode.
enhancement: Make at least one of Ch 36/37 a genuinely kinetic naval/Velheim-fleet main peak (a galleon boarding action or an interception of the Velheim Atlantic surveillance fleet — the biome is already naval), seeding the perception mechanic only as its secondary verb. Then the Ch 38 Azores environmental capstone lands as the perception CLIMAX of a kinetically-varied approach, not the third perception beat running.
grounding: CVD §16 midpoint pacing + the canon naval-combat encounter type (T1_Combat L328, 'galleon combat Ch 32-37') + the canon Ch 33 'Atlantic Surveillance Network' antagonist already in the roster (an embodiable Velheim fleet).
guardrail: Pure pacing/encounter-type change within existing canon biomes and antagonist canon; no cultural content, no fringe drift, no villainization. Ch 38's canon environmental-capstone status (Tier-A anchor, HL_0080/0077) is PRESERVED — the fix is upstream at Ch 36/37, never a change to Ch 38.
current: T0_Thread_Registry has only 22 bare thread IDs (T01-T22) and no names, classes, anchor counts, or resolution chapters populated. T0_Thread_Grid is ~37% populated and its content_summary column carries verbatim prose fragments and mis-anchored rows (a Thread-1 cell at CH_01 holds the Ch-70 fairy-realm blurb) rather than clean per-chapter anchors — the CANON_AUDIT's cross-bleed finding, still live.
weakness: The structured query layer for L3 is non-functional precisely where the minor/occult threads need it. A builder cannot machine-derive 'what does Thread 8 anchor at Ch N' because the registry is empty and the grid is fragmentary — so per-chapter occult content can't be verified for coverage or homogeneity, and the L3 anchors stay prose-only.
enhancement: Populate T0_Thread_Registry from the T1_Threads_22 per-thread headers (name, class Major/Minor, first/final anchor chapter, weaving count, resolution chapter). Re-derive T0_Thread_Grid content_summary per (thread, chapter) from the doc's clean per-thread anchors, remove the mis-anchored/copy-paste cells, and extend coverage toward the full 22x79 where a thread genuinely advances. Refresh docs/fidelity_baseline.json in the same commit.
grounding: Mechanical population from existing T1_Threads_22 v2.2 prose — no external source needed; the doc is the authority the registry mirrors (per the T1-owns / T0-mirrors architecture).
guardrail: Pure structured-form population of already-authored canon; invents nothing. Aligns the registry to its owning T1 doc per the living-source discipline. No cultural/metaphysical content decisions.
[P1] [cross] CVD §2 core thesis + Vril §1 + T1_Threads_22 Thread 1 — the consciousness-as-substrate claim and the vril-practice concept
lens: L3 OCCULT / THREADS / RABBIT-HOLES — the
current: The thesis 'consciousness is the substrate of reality, not its product' is asserted and grounded as 'documented esoteric traditions converge on it.' The actual philosophers who argued consciousness-as-substrate are never named. Plotinus's 'Enneads' (owned, USB) and Iamblichus's 'De Mysteriis / On the Mysteries of the Egyptians' (owned) sit in the RCM bibliography entirely unused by the thesis.
weakness: The game's own metaphysics has no named philosophical lineage — it reads as a bespoke game-thesis rather than a position with 2,000 years of rigorous argument behind it. The single most apt real grounding for 'vril-practice = operating on the divine substrate through disciplined ritual' is Iamblichean theurgy, and it is catalogued but unwired. Layer-2 depth-players who know philosophy find no handhold.
enhancement: Wire the Neoplatonic lineage in as the thesis's Layer-2 substrate: Plotinus (the One / Nous / emanation as consciousness-first cosmology), Iamblichus (theurgy — ritual operation on the divine substrate, the exact real analogue of vril-practice), Proclus (the ochema/astral-vehicle), through Ficino's Renaissance revival; and note the modern echo (panpsychism — Strawson, Goff; analytic idealism — Kastrup; Hoffman's interface theory) as the contemporary tail of the same rabbit-hole. Anchor primarily at Ch 23 Greece / Ch 28 Rome where Neoplatonism is historically native, surfacing as documented tradition, never as declared thesis.
grounding: Plotinus, 'Enneads' (MacKenna tr., owned USB); Iamblichus, 'De Mysteriis' (owned); E.R. Dodds' scholarship on the astral ochema; Frances Yates on the Ficino revival. Contemporary tail: Galen Strawson / Philip Goff (panpsychism), Bernardo Kastrup (analytic idealism), Donald Hoffman (interface theory) — all real, published, mainstream-debated.
guardrail: Neoplatonism and theurgy are mainstream subjects of classics/philosophy scholarship, not fringe; panpsychism/idealism are live positions in academic philosophy of mind. Zero pseudo-archaeology. Preserves §18 show-don't-tell (surfaces as documented substrate, thesis never declared). Strengthens Component 7/9 by giving them a real intellectual pedigree.
[P1] [L3] T1_Threads_22 Thread 5 (Tree of Life / World Axis) + Vril §10 (depletion cosmology) — the Kabbalah grounding
lens: L3 OCCULT / THREADS / RABBIT-HOLES — the
current: Kabbalah appears as the one-word 'Sephirot' in the cross-cultural World Tree list (Yggdrasil + Sephirot + Ashvattha + ceiba) and as 'Levantine Kabbalistic' school-name at Ch 18. Scholem's 'Major Trends in Jewish Mysticism' and 'Kabbalah' are in the RCM (needed, cross-listed Ch 18/27) but unused.
weakness: The game's ENTIRE thread architecture is explicitly built on Kabbalistic numerology (22 threads = 22 Hebrew letters = 22 Tree-of-Life paths, per Thread Typology), yet actual Kabbalah is a name-drop. More strikingly: the game's central cosmological premise — the fairy realm CONTRACTED/WITHDREW rather than collapsed (Vril §10) — is a near-exact structural parallel to the Lurianic doctrine of tzimtzum (divine self-contraction/withdrawal to make room for creation), the single most resonant real grounding available, and it is completely unexploited.
enhancement: Develop the Kabbalah vein: ground Thread 5's Sephirot on Scholem's actual scholarship (the Tree of Life as emanation map, the 22 paths, the difference between Jewish Kabbalah / Christian Cabala / Hermetic Qabalah); and add a Layer-2 grounding note connecting the vril-withdrawal cosmology to Lurianic tzimtzum as documented tradition the world's traditions preserve — surfaced as investigatable substrate at Ch 18 Levant and the Ch 69 Maatherion World-Tree realm, never declared.
grounding: Gershom Scholem, 'Major Trends in Jewish Mysticism' (Schocken 1941) and 'Kabbalah' (1974), both in RCM; Moshe Idel's later revisionist scholarship for balance; the Lurianic tzimtzum doctrine (Isaac Luria, 16th-c Safed) as documented in Scholem.
guardrail: Scholem is the foundational academic authority on Kabbalah; this is rigorous religious-studies scholarship, not fringe numerology. The tzimtzum parallel is drawn as 'a real tradition the game's cosmology echoes,' not as occult truth-claim. Respects Jewish tradition (§17.1) by grounding in the tradition's own foremost scholar. No pseudo-archaeology.
[P1] [L3] T1_Threads_22 Thread 16 (Dream Traditions / Astral) + Vril §7 (Astral Projection) — the thinnest thread vs a core mechanic
lens: L3 OCCULT / THREADS / RABBIT-HOLES — the
current: Thread 16 is ~8 lines of name-drops (Tibetan dream yoga, Steppe shamanism, Vodou, ayahuasca, Australian Dreaming). Yet astral projection is Trade 7, a Crown-seat device-gated ability, and the structural spine of Ch 38 (first deliberate Atlantis astral), Ch 46 (Area 51 astral), Ch 58, and the whole fairy-realm-is-a-real-perceivable-place premise.
weakness: The esoteric grounding for a central game mechanic is the corpus's thinnest thread. The real traditions of subtle-body/imaginal travel — which would give astral projection a rigorous, non-fringe substrate — are name-dropped, not developed. This is the clearest case of a core L3 mechanic being under-served by its own thread.
enhancement: Build Thread 16 to Major-Thread depth around one grounded organizing idea: the 'imaginal realm' as a real cross-cultural phenomenological category. Anchor on Henry Corbin's mundus imaginalis (Sufi Ibn Arabi's 'alam al-mithal, the imaginal world between sense and intellect) — which is the precise real philosophy that grounds 'the fairy realm is a genuine place perceivable through altered consciousness' without any fringe. Add the Tibetan dream-yoga corpus (Six Yogas of Naropa, the Bardo Thodol), the Neoplatonic ochema/astral-vehicle, and treat OBE phenomenology as documented experience, not proven travel.
grounding: Henry Corbin, 'Mundus Imaginalis, or the Imaginary and the Imaginal' and 'Alone with the Alone: Creative Imagination in the Sufism of Ibn Arabi'; the Six Yogas of Naropa / 'Bardo Thodol' (Tibetan primary corpus); E.R. Dodds on the Neoplatonic ochema. All real, published scholarship.
guardrail: Corbin is mainstream Islamic-studies/philosophy scholarship; the imaginal is a rigorous phenomenological category (explicitly distinguished from 'the imaginary/unreal'). Grounds a game mechanic in real tradition without claiming OBEs literally transport a body — stays phenomenological. Respects Sufi and Tibetan traditions per §17.1. No pseudo-science.
current: Thread 8 is a list of schools (Eleusinian, Orphic, Mithraic, Egyptian temple, Sufi, Kabbalistic, Tantric, Pythagorean, medicine societies) with good per-chapter anchors. The T0_School_Registry is empty. Burkert's 'Ancient Mystery Cults' and 'Greek Religion' are in the RCM.
weakness: Thread 8 catalogs schools but never states the cross-cultural INITIATORY GRAMMAR that makes them one thread — the actual structure of initiation (separation → liminal ordeal → symbolic death-rebirth → illumination → reincorporation). Without that spine, the mystery-school layer is a set of regional flavors, not the unified esoteric-transmission mechanism the thread claims to be, and the empty School_Registry has no theoretical basis to populate against.
enhancement: Add the initiatory-grammar mechanism to Thread 8 and use it as the schema basis for T0_School_Registry: ground the death-rebirth initiation structure on van Gennep's rites-of-passage tripartite scheme and Victor Turner's liminality/communitas, and the specific mystery-cult content on Burkert. This gives Weaving 9 (Mystery + Initiation + Dying-Rising) its real mechanism and lets the school registry carry a real 'initiatory-structure' field per school.
grounding: Arnold van Gennep, 'The Rites of Passage' (1909); Victor Turner, 'The Ritual Process' (liminality/communitas); Walter Burkert, 'Ancient Mystery Cults' (Harvard 1987) — Burkert already in RCM. Mircea Eliade, 'Rites and Symbols of Initiation' for the typology (used carefully; see the Frazer/Eliade guardrail item).
guardrail: Van Gennep, Turner, and Burkert are foundational, mainstream anthropology/classics. Grounds initiation as documented ritual structure, not occult claim. Protected living traditions (Native American medicine societies, Sufi tariqas) referenced per §17.1 — structure discussed, protected ceremonial detail not reproduced. No fringe.
[P1] [L3] T1_Threads_22 Thread 9 (The Great Work / Alchemy)
lens: L3 OCCULT / THREADS / RABBIT-HOLES — the
current: Thread 9 anchors Tamil Siddha rasayana, Chinese neidan/waidan, European medieval (Flamel), Islamic, and Egyptian Hermetic alchemy — a good geographic spread. SCIENCE_GROUNDING §B.4 grounds the real bench-chemistry (distillation, aqua regia, calcination) well.
weakness: Alchemy is the single richest occult rabbit-hole and Thread 9's ESOTERIC/PSYCHOLOGICAL dimension is under-grounded (the chemistry floor is covered; the interior 'Great Work' is not). It leans on Nicolas Flamel — a figure whose alchemical legend is largely a 17th-century fabrication — as a primary European anchor, which is a soft spot. The real solve-et-coagula operational spine (nigredo/albedo/rubedo) and the two towering modern readings (Principe/Newman's rehabilitation of alchemy as real 'chymistry'; Jung's alchemy-as-individuation) are absent.
enhancement: Deepen Thread 9's interior layer and firm its European anchor: ground the operational stages (nigredo-albedo-citrinitas-rubedo, solve et coagula) and reframe the European anchor from the legendary Flamel onto documented chymists (Jabir/Geber, and Newton's and Boyle's real alchemical practice per Newman/Principe). Add the two Layer-2/L3 reading-frames explicitly: alchemy as real proto-chemistry (Principe/Newman) AND alchemy as psychological transformation (Jung) — the neidan-vs-waidan seam the game already notes is the perfect carrier.
grounding: Lawrence Principe, 'The Secrets of Alchemy' and William Newman, 'Atoms and Alchemy' / their Newton-alchemy scholarship (the modern academic rehabilitation of 'chymistry'); Carl Jung, 'Psychology and Alchemy' / 'Mysterium Coniunctionis' (alchemy-as-individuation); Jabir ibn Hayyan corpus for the Islamic anchor.
guardrail: Principe/Newman are the leading academic historians of alchemy; Jung is a documented (if debated) interpretive tradition, framed as one reading not fact. Dropping the fabricated-Flamel legend for documented chymists strengthens Frame-A discipline (§19.1) exactly as Component 11 dropped Gunung Padang. No fringe.
[P1] [L3] T1_Threads_22 Thread 12 (The Oracle / Divination)
lens: L3 OCCULT / THREADS / RABBIT-HOLES — the
current: Thread 12 is a good geographic list (Ifa 256 Odu, I Ching, geomancy, runes, haruspicy, Delphi, Vuorbi, Vedda yakku). Ch 12 correctly flags Ifa as 'first binary-mathematical divination.'
weakness: The thread notices Ifa is binary but never develops the genuinely stunning cross-cultural mathematical rabbit-hole hiding in plain sight: Ifa's 256 = 2^8, the I Ching's 64 = 2^6, and Western/Arabic geomancy's 16 figures = 2^4 are all base-2 divination systems — an independent-convergence result of real intellectual weight. Leibniz himself connected the I Ching to binary arithmetic (the Bouvet correspondence). This is a spectacular L2/L3 vein left as a one-line aside.
enhancement: Develop Thread 12's cross-cultural mechanism as 'binary/combinatorial divination as convergent mathematics': explicitly link Ifa (2^8), I Ching (2^6), and geomancy (2^4) as base-2 systems; surface the documented Leibniz-Bouvet I Ching/binary correspondence as a Layer-2 discovery; and ground the African recursion/fractal dimension via Eglash. This turns cross-cultural linking (Pillar 5) into a real mathematical payoff rather than a thematic one.
grounding: Ron Eglash, 'African Fractals: Modern Computing and Indigenous Design' (Bamana sand-divination recursion); the documented Leibniz-Bouvet correspondence on the I Ching and binary arithmetic (1701-1703); William Bascom, 'Ifa Divination' (the 256-Odu system) — Bascom already referenced in the Ch 12 anchor.
guardrail: This is real mathematics and real ethnomathematics — Eglash's work specifically COUNTERS the racist erasure of indigenous mathematical sophistication, directly serving the CVD guardrail against tropes that 'erase indigenous achievement.' No fringe; celebrates documented African/Chinese intellectual achievement. Strengthens Pillar 5.
current: The thesis asserts practitioners across cultures 'operate as the serving and harming branches of a continuous esoteric tradition,' listing curandero/brujo, mambo/bokor, druid/malefica, Vedic seer/dark tantric. This is a strong L3 duality concept but it is asserted, not grounded.
weakness: Two problems. (1) Under-grounded: the serving/harming duality has no ethnographic anchor, so it risks becoming a lazy 'good magic vs evil magic' binary. (2) Guardrail-critical tension: 'mambo/bokor' names Vodou, which §17.1 protects at maximum care and which the CVD explicitly bans depicting as horror ('No Vodou-as-zombie-horror'); an ungrounded 'harming branch = bokor' framing risks reproducing the exact banned trope. 'Dark tantric' similarly risks Orientalist left-hand-path caricature.
enhancement: Ground the serving/harming duality in real ethnography so it reads as an internal, culturally-specific moral distinction the traditions themselves draw — not an external good/evil overlay — and add an explicit guardrail note that the harming branch is never rendered via the banned Hollywood tropes. Anchor tantra's vamachara (left-hand path) on real scholarship (it is a documented internal category, not a horror device); anchor curanderismo/brujería on Mesoamerican ethnography; keep the Vodou serving/harming distinction sourced to practitioner-respecting scholarship.
grounding: David Gordon White, 'Kiss of the Yogini' and 'The Alchemical Body' (real vamachara/tantric scholarship); Karen McCarthy Brown, 'Mama Lola: A Vodou Priestess in Brooklyn' (practitioner-respecting Vodou ethnography); documented curanderismo scholarship (e.g., Robert Trotter & Juan Antonio Chavira). [DECISION NEEDED - JOSH] on the exact depiction line for the harming-branch, since it touches §17.1 high-care cultures.
guardrail: This proposal is itself a guardrail-PROTECTION move: it prevents the serving/harming duality from drifting into the banned Vodou-as-horror / Orientalist-tantra tropes by grounding it in the traditions' own internal categories via practitioner-respecting scholarship. Flags the §17.1-adjacent decision to Josh rather than resolving it. Never villainizes a benevolent tradition — the point is that 'harming' is a real internal category, handled with weight, never sensationalized.
current: Pillar 5 requires 'scholarly basis per link (Frazer, Eliade, Campbell comparative mythology tradition)' and Thread 6 is built on the dying-and-rising-god category. These are the game's named scholarly authorities for its flagship mechanic.
weakness: Frazer's 'Golden Bough,' the 'dying-and-rising god' category, and Campbell's monomyth are significantly critiqued in current scholarship — Jonathan Z. Smith's influential challenge to the dying-rising-god category, and broad critique of Frazerian/Campbellian universalism as flattening cultural specificity. A Layer-2 depth-player who knows this will find the game has naively swallowed a contested 19th/20th-century frame, undercutting the authenticity contract exactly where the game stakes its credibility.
enhancement: Keep Frazer/Eliade/Campbell as the PLAYER-FACING historical comparative frame (they are the real figures who built the discipline, and the Grimoire's cross-links are diegetically theirs), but add a scholarly-honesty layer: treat the 'universal pattern' as the game's THESIS that the player discovers and tests, not as uncritical fact, and ground specific links in current scholarship where the classic frame is contested. Add a one-line guardrail to the ESOTERIC_GROUNDING doc: cite the classic comparativists as reception-history and cross-check against modern critique (J.Z. Smith) so links aren't Frazerian just-so stories.
grounding: Jonathan Z. Smith, 'Dying and Rising Gods' (in the Encyclopedia of Religion) and 'Drudgery Divine'; the general modern-scholarship critique of Frazer and of Campbell's monomyth. Frazer/Eliade/Campbell remain real, citable historical sources for the player-facing layer.
guardrail: This is a rigor/credibility strengthening, not a fringe move — it makes the game MORE careful with comparative claims. Preserves §18 (thesis as discovered, not declared) and the authenticity contract. No pseudo-archaeology; the point is to avoid over-universalizing that would flatten cultural specificity (aligned with the anti-erasure guardrail).
current: The corpus contains several coordinate/geometry numerology hooks: 33.33°S as the Vimana-activation latitude, the 33rd-parallel 'cultural-memory coordinate,' Nazca as a vril-substrate, 'energy vortex alignments' and 'orgone-class mechanisms' for recharge sites, and the Velheim family's 'master-number-11 numerology across three Western systems.' SCIENCE_GROUNDING §D already flags orgone, energy-vortex, Nazca-landing, and 33rd-parallel as Frame-B-adjacent hand-waves.
weakness: These are the corpus's live fringe-drift risk points — coordinate-numerology and 'energy vortex' phrasing are exactly the Sedona-vortex / ancient-aliens register §19.1 purged elsewhere. If presented as authorial fact they undercut the Frame-A discipline. The Velheim master-11 numerology is currently well-placed (it is the antagonist's BELIEF), but the 33.33°S anchor and 'energy vortex alignments' read as authorial-endorsed sacred geography.
enhancement: Two moves. (1) Adopt SCIENCE_GROUNDING's fixes into canon wording (flag to Josh, since it touches CVD Component 6 and the §12.2 hard-line site): replace 'orgone-class mechanisms' / 'energy vortex alignments' with the real geophysics (piezoelectric quartz-granite + tectonic/hydrothermal siting) and keep 'orgone'/'33rd parallel' only as in-world reception-history / Layer-2 grace notes. (2) Explicitly BELIEF-code all coordinate-numerology (33.33°S, 33rd-parallel) as Velheim/esoteric-tradition belief the player encounters, never as narrator-endorsed fact — the same discipline the Lewis-Williams model already gets ('respected; the game does not endorse the contested model'). Ground the real sacred-geometry that IS solid (below).
grounding: docs/SCIENCE_GROUNDING.md §D (items 1, 2, 8, 9) — the real-geophysics substitutions; the piezoelectric-quartz grounding (§B.5 Driver C). For real, defensible sacred geometry to lean on instead: the Lu & Steinhardt 2007 Science paper on decagonal quasicrystalline girih tiling at Isfahan/Darb-i Imam (genuine, astonishing) and the Egyptian seked slope system. [DECISION NEEDED - JOSH] for the Component 6 / §12.2 wording.
guardrail: Directly serves the non-negotiable guardrail: removes the residual pseudo-science phrasing ('orgone', 'energy vortex') a physics-literate player bounces off, and quarantines coordinate-numerology as in-world belief rather than fact — exactly the §19.1 Frame-A method. The real-geometry substitutes (girih quasicrystals, seked) celebrate documented Islamic/Egyptian mathematical achievement, countering erasure. Flags CVD-wording/hard-line changes to Josh; invents no canon.
[P1] [L3] T1_Threads_22 §4 (THE 20 WEAVINGS) — the cross-thread synthesis layer
lens: L3 OCCULT / THREADS / RABBIT-HOLES — the
current: The 20 Weavings are defined, and several (4, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 20) have per-chapter sub-anchors. But roughly half (1 Flood+Serpent, 2 Tree+Dying-Rising, 3 Mother-Goddess+Vril, 5 Dream+Astral+Vril, 6 Trickster+Antagonist, 7 Numerology+Geometry, 8 Oracle+Script, 12 Shamanic-Healer+Mother-Goddess, 19 End-of-World+Dying-Rising) are one-line definitions with a note that 'content will migrate during the Ch 16-77 cascade.'
weakness: The Weavings are where the deepest L3 synthesis lives — the intersections that are 'more than the sum of the threads.' Half are unbuilt stubs. Weaving 5 (Dream+Astral+Vril) is a stub yet it is the conceptual core of the astral mechanic; Weaving 8 (Oracle+Script) is the binary-divination + sacred-writing synthesis; Weaving 7 (Numerology+Geometry) is the sacred-mathematics synthesis. Leaving them stubs means the highest-value cross-thread payoffs have no structured guidance.
enhancement: Build out the stubbed Weavings to the sub-anchor depth the populated ones already have, prioritizing the occult-synthesis ones (5, 7, 8) that carry the deepest L3 payloads. Each should get a mechanism statement and 3-5 per-chapter sub-anchors grounded in the same real scholarship the constituent threads use — e.g., Weaving 8 (Oracle+Script) anchored on the binary-divination-as-written-system link (Ifa opon + I Ching hexagram notation).
grounding: Reuses the constituent threads' existing real sources (Corbin for Weaving 5, the binary-divination scholarship + Bascom for Weaving 8, the real sacred-geometry sources for Weaving 7). Structural build-out of existing canon, not new canon.
guardrail: Deepening already-defined cross-thread structure with existing real scholarship; introduces no new claims or fringe content. Holds the authenticity contract and Pillar 5. No cultural-canon decisions.
[P1] [cross] docs/spine/CH_*.md template — the 'Three-layer surfacing' section vs the 'everything-woven' section (observed in CH_10)
lens: L3 OCCULT / THREADS / RABBIT-HOLES — the
current: In the built entries, the 'everything-woven layer (twelve facets)' section is L1/L2-dense (combat, exploration, trades, gathering, engineering...), while the explicit L3 'Three-layer surfacing (CVD §18.2)' section compresses L3 to a single 3-bullet block. In CH_10 the L3 bullet is one sentence: 'the echo is literally the same vril substrate under a San name.'
weakness: For a game whose entire thesis IS the L3 substrate, the spine template gives L3 the thinnest treatment of the three layers. L3 is handled correctly (never-declared, mechanically-routed) but MINIMALLY — one line per chapter. Across 77 chapters this systematically under-provisions the deep-dive layer relative to its centrality, and gives the rabbit-hole content no room to be specified.
enhancement: Expand the spine template's L3 treatment from a single surfacing bullet to a small structured block that names, per chapter: (a) the specific occult/esoteric thread(s) surfacing and their real grounding source, (b) the Layer-2-investigatable rabbit-hole the depth-player can chase (the actual scholarship/tradition), and (c) the never-declared Layer-3 mechanical routing. This mirrors how the 12-facet L1 layer is fully enumerated, giving L3 parity of specification without violating show-don't-tell.
grounding: Method mirrors the existing 'everything-woven' 12-facet enumeration and the ESOTERIC_GROUNDING doc (proposed above) as the per-chapter source pool; consistent with Pillar 12's requirement that all three layers be represented.
guardrail: Enriches L3 specification without declaring the thesis — the expanded block still routes L3 through mechanics/environment per §17.9/§18. Strengthens Pillar 12 (three-layer parity). No canon invented; it is a template/process refinement.
[P1] [cross] T1_Vril_and_Magic_System_Master (the 'vril' substrate name has no etymology note); T4_House_of_Velheim_Canonical L526 ('Vril Society and Thule Society... documented historical occult-research-organization references'); a new §19-style disciplined note in the CVD
lens: CVD Pillars + Fringe/Cult/Racist Reframe
current: The game's central substrate energy is named 'Vril.' §19.6 meticulously renamed Thule, Hyperborea, and Agartha for occult-society and Nazi-occult downstream uptake, but there is NO parallel §19-style disciplined note anywhere on the etymology of 'vril' itself. T4 L526 lists 'Vril Society and Thule Society' together as 'documented historical occult-research-organization references... per primary-source corpus.'
weakness: Two problems. (a) Reframe-coverage gap: 'vril' is Bulwer-Lytton's coinage (The Coming Race, 1871), whose Vril-ya are a subterranean SUPERIOR RACE destined to displace surface humanity; the term was taken up by Theosophy and by the (largely mythical) 'Vril Society' of postwar Nazi-occult conspiracy lore — the SAME occult-society/Nazi-occult lineage for which §19.6 scrubbed four realm names, yet the central term escapes the discipline entirely. (b) Factual mislabel: the Thule-Gesellschaft (1918) was a real organization, but the 'Vril Society' is not documented history — it is a post-1960 literary/conspiracy construction (Pauwels & Bergier, The Morning of the Magicians, 1960; the rumor traces to Willy Ley's 1947 'Pseudoscience in Naziland'). Calling both 'documented historical occult-research-organizations' launders a conspiracy myth into fact — itself a small fringe leak. There is also a latent risk that the returning-elf-from-a-higher-vril-realm lineage rhymes with the Vril-ya master-race narrative if not explicitly guardrailed.
enhancement: Add a §19-style disciplined note that (1) grounds 'vril' on its real literary origin — Bulwer-Lytton 1871 — as Frame A clean at the source layer (exactly as Atlantis is grounded on Plato and kept while its Donnelly/Cayce/Blavatsky uptake routes reference-only-with-discipline); (2) routes the Theosophical + Vril-Society Nazi-occult / master-race uptake to reference-only-with-discipline per §19.2; (3) corrects T4 L526 to distinguish the real Thule-Gesellschaft (1918, Frame A with Nazi-occult-uptake discipline) from the 'Vril Society' as a post-1960 literary/conspiracy construction (reference-only-with-discipline, not 'documented history'); and (4) adds an explicit guardrail that the elf / higher-vril-realm / pre-deluvian lineage is NEVER framed as a biologically superior race. (Renaming 'vril' is Josh's call and likely unnecessary — the term is heavily genericized in fantasy and is a legitimate 1871 literary source — so the recommendation is the disciplined note, not a rename.)
grounding: Edward Bulwer-Lytton, The Coming Race (1871) — the coinage and the Vril-ya superior-race narrative; the term's appearance in Theosophical literature; Pauwels & Bergier, The Morning of the Magicians (1960) and Willy Ley, 'Pseudoscience in Naziland' (Astounding, 1947) for the Vril-Society rumor; Nicholas Goodrick-Clarke, The Occult Roots of Nazism / Black Sun — the standard historical assessment that the Vril Society is essentially unsubstantiated myth.
guardrail: Grounded in real literary history and real historiography of Nazi occultism; it CLOSES a coverage gap in the game's own anti-Nazi-occult reframe discipline and explicitly bars a master-race framing rather than introducing one. Preserves the term as fiction while disciplining its downstream. Holds §19 and §6/§17.1.
current: §19.1 ran a documented Frame-A purge across Components 1, 2, 5, 8, 9, 10, and 11 — but NOT Component 6. Component 6 still asserts that real pyramids/obelisks sit 'on energy vortex alignments' and harness vril 'through orgone-class mechanisms,' with megaliths 'aligned on geomagnetic features'; T1_Vril §5 mirrors it, and the phrase is already propagating into new build artifacts (the school-roster proposal: 'Mesoamerican pyramids on vortex alignments as recharge class').
weakness: 'Energy vortex alignments' is Sedona/New-Age vortex pseudoscience and 'geomagnetic-feature alignment' is ley-line pseudoscience (Watkins) — both make a claim about the REAL Earth (Frame B: real sites really sit on real energy vortexes/ley grids), which is precisely the class of claim §19 exists to bar. 'Orgone' is Reich pseudoscience. The reframe's own coverage is therefore incomplete: the constitutional document still carries Frame-B pseudoscience about the real world in the one component it never audited, and it is leaking downstream.
enhancement: Run Component 6 through the same §19.1 Frame-A purge for coverage-completeness: ground the real-world site-clustering on real tectonic/volcanic lineaments (ridges, rifts, arcs) + piezoelectric quartz-granite/andesite/basalt substrate + resonant-cavity geometry (per SCIENCE_GROUNDING §D.1/§D.2/§C.6/§B.5), fold 'geomagnetic features' into real magnetite-bearing igneous substrate / aeromagnetic anomalies (never ley lines), and retain 'orgone' / 'vortex' only as IN-WORLD folk-terminology or reception history, never as the asserted real mechanism. The vril-harnessing itself stays real-in-world fiction sitting ON TOP of the real geology.
grounding: Real geophysics: piezoelectricity of quartz (undergraduate physics), granite ~20-30% quartz; tectonic/volcanic lineament mapping; aeromagnetic-anomaly surveys; acoustic/structural resonance of large stone chambers (measured King's-Chamber modes). Named pseudosciences to demote to reception-only: Wilhelm Reich's orgone; the Sedona-vortex New Age tradition; Alfred Watkins' ley lines (The Old Straight Track, 1921). SCIENCE_GROUNDING.md §D and §B.5 already scope the physics fix.
guardrail: Replaces Frame-B claims about the real Earth with mainstream consensus geophysics while keeping every canonical word ('functional not symbolic,' 'geometric ratios') true; keeps the metaphysical layer as an explicit overlay. Introduces no fringe content — it removes it. Touches constitutional Component 6 wording, so it is a Josh-flagged call, not an auto-edit; flag not fix. Holds §19 Frame-A and Component 10's method.
[P1] [cross] T1_CVD §5 Pillar 5 executable test (L196: 'Scholarly basis required per link (Frazer, Eliade, Campbell comparative mythology tradition)'); reconcile with T0_Schema_Dictionary L919 scholarly_basis_classification enum
lens: CVD Pillars + Fringe/Cult/Racist Reframe
current: Pillar 5 — the flagship cross-cultural-linking mechanic, called 'the highest-leverage innovation in the game' — names its required scholarly warrant as 'Frazer, Eliade, Campbell comparative mythology tradition.' Meanwhile the T0 schema has already quietly modernized: scholarly_basis_classification = {frazer, eliade, campbell, doniger, peer_reviewed, primary_anthropological_field, regional_specialist}. Campbell's monomyth is already load-bearing in the Thread Grid (THREAD_06 CH_75).
weakness: Frazer's Golden Bough armchair comparativism is methodologically discredited (decontextualized universal patterns), Campbell's monomyth is critiqued for flattening cultural specificity, and Eliade is critiqued for essentialism (and carries his own political baggage). Resting the flagship linking mechanic's constitutional warrant on this early-20th-century universalist trio risks exactly the universalist-flattening / erasure-of-cultural-specificity that §6 and Pillar 12's own executable test ('Layer 1 progression erasing Layer 2 cultural specificity = pillar violation') forbid — a soft cousin of the diffusionist problem, where distinct real cultures get collapsed into one universal pattern. The schema already moved past this; the constitution has not.
enhancement: Bring CVD Pillar 5 into line with the schema it governs: require that every link cite at least one source SPECIFIC to EACH culture being linked (regional_specialist / primary_anthropological_field / peer_reviewed), not a universalizing meta-source alone, and add an explicit anti-flattening discipline (a link must honor difference as much as convergence). Keep Frazer/Campbell/Eliade admissible as reception-history/inspiration but not as the sole scholarly warrant for a reward-bearing link.
grounding: Real methodological critique: Jonathan Z. Smith, Drudgery Divine (1990) and 'Map Is Not Territory' — the standard critique of Frazerian comparison for ignoring difference/context; Wendy Doniger, The Implied Spider (1998) — a difference-attentive comparative method; Bruce Lincoln, Theorizing Myth (1999) — critical/contextual approach to comparison. The schema's own doniger/peer_reviewed/regional_specialist classes already encode the fix.
guardrail: Strengthens cultural authenticity and anti-erasure (Pillar 12 test, §6) by requiring culture-specific grounding; introduces no fringe/cult content; does not villainize the named scholars (it modernizes a methodological requirement, standard scholarly practice, and keeps them as reception sources). Low-risk because the schema already implemented the modernized classification. Holds Pillars 5/12 and §6.
[P1] [cross] T1_CVD §6.2/§17.1 Ch 57 Australia hard-line constraints; the eventual Ch 57 spine/region build; CVD §6.2 L277 source list
lens: CVD Pillars + Fringe/Cult/Racist Reframe
current: §17.1/§6.2 correctly bind Ch 57 with the strictest protections — no antagonist presence, no combat against community, no reproduction of AIATSIS-registered artwork, songlines 'as living-inscription substrate, never reproduced,' combat only via environmental/astral mode. The curated sources are strong (Clarkson 2017, Stanner, Rose, Gammage, Pascoe, Norris & Hamacher). The RCM correctly attaches the Pascoe/Dark-Emu critical-reading discipline via Sutton & Walshe.
weakness: Direction-(b) risk (not yet a realized defect, since Ch 57 is unbuilt): a chapter defined almost entirely by prohibitions can build reverent-but-empty — richly protected, thinly represented — which is its own failure of the authentic-representation mandate. The constraints are all 'do not,' with no paired positive mandate to surface the sophisticated real content the sources already curate. Secondary consistency gap: the CVD §6.2 L277 source list (and T99_SSBL L949, Build_Pipeline_Contracts L2091) lists 'Pascoe' bare, without the Sutton-Walshe critical-reading companion the RCM correctly attaches — so the contestation discipline is uneven across the constitutional/operational layer.
enhancement: Pair every §17.1 'reference-not-reproduce' restriction with an explicit POSITIVE representation mandate for Ch 57: surface the real, sophisticated, publishable content the sources already provide — Aboriginal astronomy (emu-in-the-sky dark-constellation, seasonal star calendars) per Norris & Hamacher; landscape-scale fire/land management per Gammage; songlines as a real long-distance navigational/mnemonic memory-system per Kelly; Dreaming epistemology per Stanner and Rose. And carry the Pascoe Dark-Emu critical-reading flag consistently at the CVD §6.2 list (as the RCM already does), so a contested claim is never asserted as fact.
grounding: Ray Norris & Duane Hamacher, The Astronomy of Aboriginal Australia (2009, peer-reviewed) — real Aboriginal astronomy; Bill Gammage, The Biggest Estate on Earth (2011) — real fire/land management; Lynne Kelly, The Memory Code (2016) — songlines as real mnemonic/navigational systems; W.E.H. Stanner, The Dreaming; Deborah Bird Rose, Nourishing Terrains; Sutton & Walshe, Farmers or Hunter-Gatherers? The Dark Emu Debate (2021) — the required Pascoe critical companion.
guardrail: All grounded in real, mostly peer-reviewed Aboriginal-studies scholarship; the mandate deepens authentic representation without reproducing protected/sacred material (astronomy, fire-management, and navigational-memory content is documented and non-restricted, distinct from AIATSIS-registered artwork and songline reproduction). Keeps the §17.1 hard lines intact while preventing over-defensive thinning. Holds §6/§17.1 and Pillar 12.
current: All 10 trades are rowed, but the schema is only trade_id, name, ancient/modern home chapter+region, ONE pillar_9_substrate_concept phrase (e.g. 'material_transformation_consciousness'), and quest-gate placeholder IDs. Six of ten modern homes are the literal placeholder 'Ch_59_65_TBD_phase_6'. All actual praxis content is deferred to unbuilt 'Tier 5 Trade_Detailed' docs.
weakness: CVD §14.4's core claim — 'the same trade across home bases surfaces DIFFERENT worldview substrate' (Ayurveda at Ch 7 vs. Amazonian shamanic-medicinal at Ch 50) — has no structured home; the registry cannot express per-culture variation, so Pillar 9's executable test ('trade reduced to a gathering system = violation') is unverifiable at the data layer. A single substrate-concept noun collapses an entire material culture.
enhancement: Extend the Trade Registry, or add a Trade_Praxis child registry keyed per home base, carrying: signature materia/technique (wootz crucible cycle; tatara tamahagane; Charaka/Sushruta 600-plant pharmacopoeia; Amazonian ayahuasca + curare; Andean tumbaga assay), the named primary-source framework, and cross-trade combination anchors. This turns §14.4 per-culture variation into queryable canon the cascade can diff against.
grounding: The traditions CVD §14.3 already names (Charaka/Sushruta, Haya iron-smelting, Tamil Siddha rasayana, Manggarai ikat / Asante kente / Yoruba aso-oke, Antikythera, Chinese neidan/waidan) — this structures what the CVD already asserts, adding named primary texts such as Li Shizhen's Bencao Gangmu (Chinese Alchemy/Herbalism) and Ibn Sina's Canon (Persian Alchemy/Mining assay).
guardrail: Structures existing CVD-grounded traditions; no new tradition invented, each attributed to real ethnography/primary text. Do-not-invent respected — Josh owns home-base assignments; this only structures praxis beneath them. Holds Pillar 9, §17.6.
current: Culinary Arts is canonically single-home Ch 42 Haiti. The only developed foodway in the corpus is Haiti (Sokolov, Mintz). CVD §14.3 names nixtamalization, South Indian thali, Sichuan flavor-architecture, and Mediterranean diaspora as substrate — but grep shows nixtamal x1, fermentation x1, and garum, tempeh, chicha, pemmican, 'six tastes'/shad rasa, umami all absent.
weakness: Foodways are among the richest, most sensory L2 layers and one of Josh's five named domains, yet because the Trade is home-gated to Haiti, the cuisine of every other visited culture is L2-invisible. This under-delivers the '...fully ingesting the culture — its... culinary arts' directive at 76 of 77 chapters.
enhancement: Decouple culinary L2 TEXTURE (market, foodway, food-as-medicine) from the Trade 7 mastery GATE: keep Haiti as the trade home base and mastery site, but seed a light per-chapter foodway line in the RCM verified-canon paragraph and region page — nixtamalization (Mesoamerica Ch 47), garum (Rome Ch 28), tempeh/soy fermentation (Indonesia Ch 2-4), chicha maize-beer (Andes Ch 51-52), pemmican (N. America Ch 44-45), and the Ayurvedic six-tastes (shad rasa) explicitly bridging Culinary↔Herbalism at Ch 7 so food-as-medicine links Trade 7 to Trade 4.
grounding: Solomon H. Katz et al., Science 1974 (nixtamalization / niacin bioavailability); Robert I. Curtis, Garum and Salsamenta; Keith Steinkraus, Handbook of Indigenous Fermented Foods (tempeh); Justin Jennings, Drink, Power, and Society in the Andes (chicha); Charaka Samhita (shad rasa); Fuchsia Dunlop (Sichuan má-là).
guardrail: Real food-science and food-history; nixtamalization-as-sophisticated-chemistry is precisely the anti-primitivizing reframe. No sacred foodway appropriated; Haiti Vodou foodway stays within §17.1 living-religion respect (documented, not sensationalized). Holds Pillars 9, 12.
current: Medicine is present but uneven and exists only as bibliography + prose. Strong at Ayurveda (Ch 6/7, Charaka/Sushruta) and Baka ethnobotany (Ch 11/40, Bahuchet, 600+ practices); no structured materia medica anywhere. Under-anchored: Chinese medicine (Bencao / Huangdi Neijing / acupuncture, Ch 21), Islamic Golden Age (Ibn Sina, Al-Razi, Ch 19/31), Egyptian (Ebers & Edwin Smith papyri, Ch 15), Greek humoral (Hippocrates/Galen/Dioscorides, Ch 23/28), Aztec (Badianus herbal, Ch 47).
weakness: The medicine-philosophy substrate (the CVD Herbalism reframe) is realized only where a trade home base forces it; elsewhere the world's great documented medical systems are absent from the substrate the cascade builds from — a thin L2 layer for a game whose thesis is recovered human knowledge.
enhancement: Add each region's documented medical system to the RCM verified-canon paragraph + source list, and stand up a lightweight materia-medica structured field (plant/mineral → tradition → use) reusable across Herbalism, Alchemy, Culinary (food-as-medicine), and the Finding-2 poison field. Anchor: Chinese Bencao (Ch 21), Ibn Sina Canon + Al-Razi (Ch 19/31), Ebers/Edwin Smith (Ch 15), Dioscorides/Galen humoral theory (Ch 23/28), Badianus (Ch 47).
grounding: Li Shizhen, Bencao Gangmu; Huangdi Neijing; Ibn Sina, Canon of Medicine; Al-Razi (Rhazes); the Ebers Papyrus & Edwin Smith Surgical Papyrus; Dioscorides, De Materia Medica; Galen; the Badianus Manuscript (Libellus de Medicinalibus Indorum Herbis, 1552).
guardrail: All real, named primary texts/traditions; explicitly credits non-Western medical science (Islamic Golden Age, Chinese materia medica, Aztec herbal) — guardrail-positive anti-erasure. Metaphysical framing (Ayurvedic prana, qi) is kept as the tradition holds it per the 'supernatural is real in-world' directive, and never declared (§17.9). Holds Pillars 9, 12.
[P1] [cross] T1_Combat_System_Spec (the Regional Combat Modifier table — Pillar 10's named artifact) + the populated Weapon Registry
lens: L2 Material Culture + Praxis — trade (10
current: Regional martial arts appear in prose (kalaripayattu marma-points Ch 7, pencak silat Ch 4) but Pillar 10's executable artifact — a per-region Regional Combat Modifier table (stance/hazard/weapon-of-origin/movement) — has no registry. Broader war-craft is uneven; CANON_AUDIT already flags Ch 16 chariotry as 'seeded chariot only'.
weakness: Pillar 10 ('two consecutive chapters with identical combat feel = violation; region without combat modifier table = violation') is data-unfalsifiable, and the deep war-craft material culture (composite recurve bow + steppe horse-archery, phalanx + Greek fire, Roman testudo/siege, Zulu impi horns-of-the-buffalo, Aztec flower-war, wootz/Toledo/tatara weapon-steel) is not anchored as praxis.
enhancement: Stand up the Regional Combat Modifier table per Pillar 10 and cross-link it to the populated Weapon Registry (Finding 1) and to named historical martial systems per region; anchor at least the marquee war-craft set-pieces — chariotry (Ch 16), hoplite phalanx (Ch 23), Zulu tactics (Ch 13), steppe horse-archery — as documented tactical substrate rather than generic combat.
grounding: Ross Hassig, Aztec Warfare and Mexico and the Spanish Conquest; John Keegan, A History of Warfare; Ian Knight on the Anglo-Zulu impi (iklwa / horns-of-the-buffalo); Phillip Zarrilli, When the Body Becomes All Eyes (kalaripayattu ethnography); O'ong Maryono, Pencak Silat in the Indonesian Archipelago.
guardrail: Real military history + martial-arts ethnography; presents non-Western tactical sophistication (Zulu, steppe, Aztec) on equal footing with European systems — anti-stereotype. Combat routes to oppressors/antagonists/fauna, never protected communities (§17.1). Holds Pillars 8, 10.
[P1] [L2] Ch 12 West Africa (and trans-Saharan reach shared with Ch 32) — RCM + T1_World_Geography_Master + T0_Cross_Cultural_Link_Graph
lens: L2 Cultural Substrate — history, religio
current: Ch 12 is anchored on Yoruba Ile-Ife bronzes, Ouidah python temple, Dahomey/Agojie, Dogon/Bandiagara, Ifa divination. The Sahelian West African empires and the Timbuktu scholarly tradition appear in the entire corpus only as a single passing RCM acquisition line ('UNESCO Old Towns of Djenné documentation ... Mali heritage cross-reference'); full-tree grep for Timbuktu / Mansa Musa / Songhai / Sundiata / Sankore returns no anchored canonical content.
weakness: One of the largest 'marks on the world' in African history — the Ghana/Mali/Songhai empires, Mansa Musa's 1324 hajj, the Djenné and Timbuktu manuscript libraries and the Sankore/Djinguereber madrasas, a documented literate scholarly civilization on the Niger bend — is effectively absent. Its omission leaves West Africa represented by orisha religion, sacrifice, trickster tales, and the slave-trade wound, with none of its statecraft, gold-salt-book commerce, or manuscript scholarship. This is the textbook counter-evidence to the 'Africa had no written/scholarly civilization' trope the CVD is built to refute.
enhancement: Deepen Ch 12's L2 substrate (the Dogon/Bandiagara node is already Mali geography, and the Niger-bend cities lie within the chapter's stated multi-polity reach) with a Sahelian-empire + Timbuktu manuscript layer: the Mali imperial court and trans-Saharan gold-salt trade, the mud-brick Great Mosque of Djenné, the Sankore scholarly network and surviving private manuscript collections, and Songhai administration under Askia Muhammad. Open a Cross_Cultural_Link chain: trans-Saharan book/scholarship network -> Ch 31 Córdoba library -> Ch 8 Swahili Indian-Ocean book trade. Final chapter-assignment (Ch 12 deepening vs. a distinct Sahel node) is Josh's.
grounding: Epic of Sundiata (D.T. Niane); Ibn Battuta, Rihla (eyewitness account of Mali, 1352); al-Umari on Mansa Musa's hajj; Nehemia Levtzion, Ancient Ghana and Mali; John Hunwick, Timbuktu and the Songhay Empire; Elias Saad, Social History of Timbuktu; the Ahmed Baba Institute / Mamma Haidara manuscript corpus (UNESCO).
guardrail: All real, primary/peer-reviewed African and Arabic historical sources; foregrounds documented indigenous achievement and directly serves the CVD anti-fringe/anti-racist mission; no fringe, cult, or pseudo-archaeology; villainizes no revered figure; upholds §6/§17.1 and Pillar 5.
[P1] [L2] Great Zimbabwe / Mapungubwe — T1_Threads_22 (Thread 2 Ch 8 line) + Ch 8 Swahili and/or Ch 13 South Africa reach
lens: L2 Cultural Substrate — history, religio
current: Great Zimbabwe appears once, as 'Ch 8: Great Zimbabwe python cult referenced through Mutota trader — first African continental serpent' (Threads_22 line 121). Mapungubwe returns zero hits corpus-wide. The greatest medieval stone city in sub-Saharan Africa is reduced to a serpent-thread aside delivered by a passing NPC.
weakness: Great Zimbabwe (dry-stone city, ~11m conical tower, Indian-Ocean gold trade, ~1100-1450 CE) and its predecessor Mapungubwe (the ~1220-1290 CE Limpopo gold-working kingdom, the famous golden rhinoceros, the soapstone Zimbabwe Birds) are among the most important indigenous African 'marks on the world' — and Great Zimbabwe is the single most infamous case of colonial pseudo-archaeology racism: the Rhodesian state coerced archaeologists (forcing out Peter Garlake) to attribute it to Phoenicians, Sabaeans, or the Queen of Sheba specifically to deny Shona-ancestral authorship. Leaving it as a serpent aside forfeits the CVD's flagship opportunity to reframe fringe erasure back onto documented indigenous achievement (§19).
enhancement: Elevate to an anchored 'civilizational_marks' L2 site with explicit documented Shona-ancestral authorship and the Indian-Ocean gold-trade link back to Ch 8 Swahili (and forward to the extraction arc). Surface the dry-stone engineering (mortarless coursed masonry), the Zimbabwe Bird soapstone sculpture, and the Mapungubwe gold rhino, and — as pure Layer-2 investigable substrate, never narrator declaration — the contestation history itself as a live instance of Component 5 knowledge-suppression. Geographic home: Ch 8 (gold-trade terminus, already name-checks it) or Ch 13's stated Limpopo 'territorial reach' where Mapungubwe sits; Josh assigns.
grounding: Peter Garlake, Great Zimbabwe; Thomas Huffman, Snakes & Crocodiles: Power and Symbolism in Ancient Zimbabwe; Innocent Pikirayi, The Zimbabwe Culture; the Mapungubwe gold rhinoceros (University of Pretoria collection); Shona oral-historical attribution corpus.
guardrail: Explicitly REJECTS the Phoenician/Sabaean fringe attribution and anchors documented Shona authorship — this enhancement is the antidote to pseudo-archaeology, not a vector for it; all sources are real archaeology/history; delivers CVD §19's reframe discipline and §17.1's own-self-understanding standard; villainizes no one.
current: Ch 19 is framed as Zoroastrian tradition (Ahura Mazda/Angra Mainyu), Azhi Dahaka, Simurgh, Shahnameh, with Alchemy as the trade home base. Ch 20 Silk Road is 'information monopoly / surveillance.' Ch 31 Iberia has the Córdoba library ('~400,000 volumes burned in Reconquista'). Full-tree grep for al-Khwarizmi / House of Wisdom / Ibn al-Haytham / Avicenna / algebra / optics returns no anchored content; the only 'astrolabe' hits are 15th-c. Portuguese navigation.
weakness: The Islamic Golden Age — one of history's greatest scientific flowerings, and the pipeline that preserved and advanced Greek science and seeded the European Renaissance — is absent. The Islamic world is represented by fire-temples, epic poetry, and mystic/Sufi texture, with none of its algebra, algorithms, experimental optics, medicine, or astronomy. Notably the Córdoba library is present only as a book-burning wound, not as the science it held; and the Toledo translators (Burnett is already an acquired Ch 27 source) are the documented Renaissance bridge but the golden age they transmit is unbuilt.
enhancement: Anchor the achievement layer: at Ch 19 tie Jabir ibn Hayyan (the father of chemistry) directly to the Alchemy home base already located there; add al-Khwarizmi (algebra, 'algorithm'), the Baghdad House of Wisdom, Ibn al-Haytham's experimental Book of Optics, Ibn Sina's Canon of Medicine, and al-Biruni. At Ch 20 add the westward transmission (paper via Talas 751; Samarkand). At Ch 31 pair the Córdoba library-burning with the science it contained and the Toledo transmission into Latin Europe. Layer-2 investigable throughout; Josh confirms per-chapter placement.
grounding: George Saliba, Islamic Science and the Making of the European Renaissance; Jim Al-Khalili, The House of Wisdom; Ahmed Dallal, Islam, Science, and the Challenge of History; al-Khwarizmi's Kitab al-jabr; Ibn al-Haytham's Kitab al-Manazir; Ibn Sina's al-Qanun fi al-Tibb.
guardrail: All real primary/scholarly sources; represents Islamic civilization by its documented science rather than only by mysticism (§17.1 own-self-understanding); no fringe/cult content; villainizes no faith or figure; upholds Pillar 9 (trades as consciousness-technology, esp. Alchemy) and Component 5/9/10.
[P1] [L2] Ch 7 South India + Ch 16 Indus Valley — RCM + T1_World_Geography_Master
lens: L2 Cultural Substrate — history, religio
current: Ch 7 is martial/spiritual: Kalaripayattu, marma points, wootz steel, Tamil Siddha, Ayurveda (Herbalism home base). Ch 16 Indus carries urban planning, drainage, standardized weights, the 1:2:4 brick ratio. Full-tree grep for zero/decimal/place-value/Aryabhata/Brahmagupta/Panini/Kerala school returns nothing beyond the Harappan brick-numerology line.
weakness: India's single greatest gift to the world — the decimal place-value number system and zero, the numerals every human now uses — is unanchored, as is Panini's Ashtadhyayi (the 4th-c. BCE generative grammar, the first formal rule-system for a language and a foundation of modern linguistics) and the Kerala School's infinite series for pi and sine (Madhava, ~250 years before Newton-Leibniz) — the last of which is literally native to Ch 7's Kerala setting. India is represented by martial arts, medicine, and mysticism with its mathematics and formal linguistics missing.
enhancement: At Ch 16 extend the existing weights/brick numeracy into the numeral lineage (proto-decimal reasoning); at Ch 7 anchor Aryabhata and Brahmagupta's codification of zero, the Kerala School (Madhava of Sangamagrama) in its home region, and Panini's Ashtadhyayi. Panini is a marquee synergy with Pillar 7 (language-as-reality/Inscription) — a real formal grammar as a Layer-2 'inscription decodes structure' anchor. Wire a Cross_Cultural_Link: Indian numerals -> House of Wisdom (Ch 19/20) -> Córdoba/Toledo (Ch 31) -> Europe. Josh confirms placement.
grounding: Kim Plofker, Mathematics in India (Princeton); George Gheverghese Joseph, The Crest of the Peacock; George Cardona, Panini: A Survey of Research; Brahmagupta's Brahmasphutasiddhanta (628 CE); Aryabhata's Aryabhatiya (~499 CE).
guardrail: All real, peer-reviewed history-of-mathematics/linguistics sources; foregrounds documented Indian scientific achievement (counters the mystics-only reduction); no fringe/pseudo-science; villainizes no tradition; directly strengthens Pillar 7 and Components 9/10.
current: Ch 28 canonical content is Mithraic mysteries, the senatorial administrative network, Stoicism (Marcus Aurelius/Seneca/Epictetus), Rod of Asclepius, and gladiatorial/fencing weapon anchors. Grep finds no Roman law, Twelve Tables, Justinian, aqueduct, or concrete as anchored content. The WGM tags it a gap chapter.
weakness: A marquee civilization is reduced to a mystery cult plus Stoic philosophy, missing the apparatus that most shaped the modern world: Roman law (Twelve Tables ~450 BCE -> Justinian's Corpus Juris Civilis 529-534 CE, the root of the civil-law tradition used across most of the planet), Roman concrete/engineering (opus caementicium and pozzolana; the Pantheon dome), aqueducts and roads, and the census/administrative state. These are the definitive Roman 'marks on the world.'
enhancement: Add a law-and-engineering L2 layer: the Twelve Tables and the Justinianic codification as the durable legal 'mark,' Roman concrete and aqueduct/road engineering as the material 'mark,' and the administrative/census machinery — surfaced through inscription (Latin epigraphy), architecture (Pillar 13 sacred-geometry overflow), and a governance/statecraft link that pairs with Ch 17 Mesopotamian law (Code of Hammurabi) and forward to Ch 27 canon law. Josh confirms scope.
grounding: The Institutes of Gaius and Justinian's Corpus Juris Civilis; Mary Beard, SPQR; Vitruvius, De Architectura; the aqueduct/concrete engineering record (Frontinus, De Aquaeductu).
guardrail: All real primary/scholarly sources; additive documented achievement; no fringe content; villainizes no one; converts a flagged 'gap chapter' into a substantively grounded one and upholds §6/§17.1.
[P1] [L2] Ch 27 Central Europe — RCM + T1_World_Geography_Master (flagged 'gap chapter'; also a relief chapter)
lens: L2 Cultural Substrate — history, religio
current: Ch 27 is framed on architectural suppression (Gothic cathedrals over pre-Christian sites), Hermetic/Rosicrucian substrate (Yates, Copenhaver), Hildegard of Bingen's viriditas, and medieval weapon legendaries. Corpus grep for Gutenberg/movable type/printing press finds only 'Project Gutenberg' the ebook host — the printing press itself is absent everywhere.
weakness: The single most consequential information technology before the internet — Gutenberg's movable-type press (Mainz, ~1440s), squarely in Ch 27's stated 'German lands ... Rhine valley' geography — is entirely absent, despite being the perfect thematic mark for a game whose Component 5 is institutional knowledge-suppression versus preservation. The chapter's 'marks on the world' are limited to cathedral architecture and esoteric philosophy.
enhancement: Anchor the print revolution at Ch 27: Gutenberg's press as the information-liberation counterweight to Component 5 suppression, with the Layer-2 comparative depth that movable type is older elsewhere (Korean metal type, the Jikji 1377; Chinese woodblock and Bi Sheng's 11th-c. clay movable type) — a ready Cross_Cultural_Link to Ch 20/21. This gives a flagged gap/relief chapter a genuine world-historical mark that also reinforces the game's central knowledge-suppression thesis. Josh confirms.
grounding: Elizabeth Eisenstein, The Printing Press as an Agent of Change; the Jikji (1377, UNESCO Memory of the World); Bi Sheng movable type via Shen Kuo's Dream Pool Essays; Needham, Science and Civilisation in China (already an acquired Ch 21 source).
guardrail: Real, documented history of technology; the multi-origin framing (Korea/China predate Gutenberg) is itself an anti-Eurocentric correction; no fringe content; villainizes no one; directly serves Component 5 and §6.
current: Ch 21 canonical content is the book-burning moral choice, I Ching, Tao Te Ching, and Wushu/Shaolin tradition, with generic geography ('Great Wall, ancient capitals'). The RCM has Needham's 27-volume Science and Civilisation in China as an acquired Tier-1 source, explicitly flagged as 'the substrate of Components 9 and 10 routing for the Chinese arc' — but none of it surfaces in canon.
weakness: China is represented by Daoist/Buddhist spirituality and martial arts, while the achievements that literally enabled the modern world are un-ingested: the four great inventions (papermaking/Cai Lun, gunpowder, the magnetic compass, printing/Bi Sheng), Su Song's astronomical clock tower, Zhang Heng's seismoscope, cast iron, the civil-service examination (the first merit bureaucracy), and Zheng He's treasure fleets. The definitive source is in hand and pre-mapped to Components 9/10; this is an ingestion gap, not a research gap.
enhancement: Surface the Needham-documented achievement layer at Ch 21 as Layer-2 content and gameplay hooks (inscription/engineering/trade): movable type and paper (tie the compass to its Chinese origin, distinct from the Ch 33-37 Portuguese-navigation compass already in canon), gunpowder, Su Song's clock, and the examination-bureaucracy as statecraft. Route paper's westward transmission through Ch 20 (Talas 751). Josh confirms which marks headline vs. support.
grounding: Joseph Needham, Science and Civilisation in China (already acquired, RCM Ch 21 Tier 1); Shen Kuo, Dream Pool Essays (Bi Sheng, magnetic compass); the Song-dynasty technology record.
guardrail: Real, canonical history-of-science source already in the corpus; additive documented achievement; no fringe content; corrects the compass's provenance rather than distorting it; villainizes no one; fulfills the RCM's own stated Component 9/10 routing and Pillar 9.
current: WGM Type = 'Atmospheric horror / discovery'; key content is a folklore-creature list (Baba Yaga, strigoi, rusalki, domovoi, Koschei) plus Perun-Veles dualism and the Slavic World Tree. The RCM source list is strong (Vinogradova, Hubbs's Mother Russia, Afanasyev), but the canonical framing is the monster register.
weakness: A major civilization is reduced to a single Western-cinema trope — the 'atmospheric horror' / Dracula-and-vampires register — which is itself an othering of Eastern Europe rather than the culture's own self-understanding (a §17.1 'no Hollywood tropes / no stereotyped descriptors' concern). Missing marks and real substrate: Cyrillic script (Cyril and Methodius; Glagolitic->Cyrillic — a living writing system for ~250M people, ideal for Pillar 7); Novgorod birchbark-letter mass literacy and the veche-assembly merchant-republic; Kievan Rus statecraft; and the well-documented dvoeverie ('double faith') syncretism by which Slavic pagan practice persisted under Orthodox Christianity.
enhancement: Reframe from horror-trope to the culture's own religious/literary/political substrate while keeping the folklore as living superstition (not monster spectacle): anchor Cyrillic's invention and the Novgorod birchbark literacy record as inscription-pillar 'marks'; add Kievan Rus / Novgorod Republic statecraft; and make dvoeverie the chapter's superstition-and-religion spine (pagan survival under Christianity) — a richer, documented version of the same 'suppressed-tradition-persists' beat the folklore gestures at. Josh confirms.
grounding: W.F. Ryan, The Bathhouse at Midnight (Slavic magic/superstition); Simon Franklin, Writing, Society and Culture in Early Rus (Cyrillic, birchbark literacy); Eve Levin on dvoeverie; Joanna Hubbs, Mother Russia and Afanasyev (already acquired).
guardrail: All real ethnographic/historical sources; explicitly de-tropes the Western 'atmospheric horror' framing per §17.1 (culture in its own vocabulary); folklore depicted as living belief, not monster-movie shorthand; no fringe/cult content; villainizes no one; strengthens Pillar 7.
[P1] [L2] Modern-arc chapters (Ch 39 West Africa, Ch 40 Congo, Ch 43 Gullah, and the 39-58 sector-framed set) — RCM + T1_World_Geography_Master
lens: L2 Cultural Substrate — history, religio
current: The modern chapters are framed almost entirely through the antagonist operational sector: Ch 39 = 'Pharmaceutical biopiracy'; Ch 40 = 'conflict minerals'; Ch 43 = 'opioid supply chain'; Ch 44 = 'Federal Reserve founding.' Their RCM source stacks are dominated by extraction/harm literature (Shiva Biopiracy, Hochschild, Stearns, Quinones/Keefe/Macy, Meltzer). Living contemporary culture is thin (Ch 39/40 carry almost no biome or living-culture detail). Ch 42 Haiti and Ch 47/48 Mesoamerica are the rich exceptions.
weakness: Living peoples are represented predominantly as victims of an extraction sector rather than as vibrant present-day cultures with their own 'marks on the world' right now — a subtle perpetual-victim reduction that cuts against §6/§17.1 (honor cultures as they understand themselves; no stereotyped descriptors) and against Josh's L2 mandate to 'fully ingest the culture.' The wound is present; the living gift is thin.
enhancement: Require a living-positive-culture L2 field in every modern chapter alongside the extraction beat: e.g., Ch 39 Nigeria — Nollywood (world's 2nd-largest film industry by output), Afrobeats (Fela Kuti's Afrobeat -> Burna Boy/Wizkid global export), the literary tradition (Achebe, Soyinka's Nobel, Adichie — already acquired); Ch 40 Congo — Congolese rumba/soukous (UNESCO 2021; Franco, Papa Wemba) and the sapeur tradition and Lingala; Ch 43 Gullah — already the strongest of the set (rice, ring shout, language retention), hold as the model. The extraction narrative stays; it stops being the whole of the culture. Josh confirms per-chapter emphasis.
grounding: UNESCO 2021 inscription of Congolese rumba; Fela Kuti / Afrobeat historiography (e.g., Michael Veal, Fela); Nollywood scholarship (Jonathan Haynes, Nollywood); Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (already in RCM Ch 39); Lorenzo Dow Turner, Africanisms in the Gullah Dialect (already acquired).
guardrail: Real, documented living-culture sources; corrects a victim-only reduction per §6/§17.1 (own self-understanding, no stereotyped descriptors); keeps the documented harm record intact rather than erasing it; villainizes no community; fulfills Josh's L2 'fully ingest the culture' directive.
[P1] [cross] T0_Creature_Roster (0 rows) vs T3_Creatures_Tameable 72KB
lens: ALL-TIER POPULATION HEALTH
current:
weakness: scatter-lag: ACTIVE tier doc never scattered to its runtime registry
enhancement: Scatter T3_Creatures_Tameable into Creature_Roster
grounding: real ethology + folklore attribution the schema demands
guardrail: primary-source ethnography not cryptozoology; holds sec6
[P2] [L1] T1_Combat_System_Spec — vril-projection combat (the one-line stub at L330) + the Ch 66-77 endgame boss rows; Gap 3.10 in docs/COMBAT_ENCOUNTER_SYSTEM.md
lens: L1 Action / Playability — every chapter
current: 'At high vril mastery, combat proceeds through vril projection rather than weapons' (T1_Combat L330) is the ENTIRE spec for a whole high-mastery combat mode. The endgame (Ch 70-73 Realm War, full vril ceiling) is where this mode should headline, and RCM calls Ch 73 'the game's largest single combat encounter.'
weakness: The climactic combat identity — the spectacle the whole 12-tier mastery ladder builds toward — has no mechanical definition, risking the endgame's L1 feeling abstract/thin exactly where it should be the game's most spectacular kinetic payoff (compounding the endgame's already perception-heavy verb mix: Ch 66 attune/decode, 68 perceive, 76-77 perceive).
enhancement: Spec vril-projection combat as a distinct high-mastery kinetic mode — projected-force strikes, terrain-command (the 'command-terrain' verb the Ch 71-74 rows already use), its own Composure interactions and telegraphs — so the Realm-War endgame delivers a full kinetic crescendo rather than more perceive/attune. Tie it to the full-vril-ceiling canon so it reads diegetically as the payoff of the depleted-air 75-chapter journey.
grounding: T1_Combat L330 (the existing stub) + the RCM full-vril-ceiling endgame canon (Ch 70-73; RCM L6536/L6642/L6720) + the game's own 12-tier mastery ladder (CVD §12.1).
guardrail: Systems spec grounded entirely in existing canon; no cultural content, no fringe/pseudo-archaeology, no villainization. Holds the vril-density difficulty doctrine (projection scales by ambient density, never HP inflation) and Pillar 8 (projection bosses still blend a secondary verb).
[P2] [L1] T1_Combat_System_Spec §'Agility Course System' + the boss 'traverse' verb (boss_roster_rows.json, e.g. Ch 11/34/53/64)
lens: L1 Action / Playability — every chapter
current: The 77-course agility system (timed, hazard-rich, three variants, biome-rotated) is documented as a parallel silo tied to collectibles/Book-of-Trades; separately the roster uses a 'traverse' verb, and Ch 9's Simien Poacher is already 'traverse/strike'. The two systems are documented as owned by different tiers.
weakness: A rich L1 kinetic-traversal resource (parkour, chase, vertical arenas) is under-woven into the encounter layer — Ruling 7's 'everything woven' wants traversal INSIDE fights, but agility and boss design are documented apart, so chase / vertical-arena / course-under-fire boss variety is left implicit rather than systematized.
enhancement: Define traversal-combat as a first-class encounter type bridging the two systems — chase-bosses, vertical/parkour boss arenas, hazard-course-under-fire — so the agility system's kinesthetic identity feeds the boss layer and adds a distinctly kinetic non-melee variety axis (the Pillar 10 movement-modifier payoff).
grounding: The RuneScape-agility inspiration the spec already cites (T1_Combat L251) + Pillar 10 regional movement modifiers (jungle/desert/steppe/ice) + the existing 'traverse' verb in the roster; modern action-game chase / vertical-arena design craft.
guardrail: Systems/encounter-design bridge only; no cultural content, no fringe drift, no villainization. Protected-site agility courses keep their documented-site-respect discipline (T1_Combat 'Cultural Sensitivity at Protected Courses', e.g. Ch 12 Tellem, Ch 29 Sámi, Ch 57 AIATSIS) — no combat-gating introduced there.
[P2] [L2] CVD §12.1 (Twelve-tier Hermetic mastery) + Pillar 4 + Thread 8/9 — the Hermetic core's own transmission history
lens: L3 OCCULT / THREADS / RABBIT-HOLES — the
current: The universal mastery framework uses the real Golden Dawn grade ladder (Neophyte, Zelator, Theoricus, Practicus, Philosophus, Adeptus Minor/Major/Exemptus, Magister Templi, Magus) and names Crowley as Pillar 4 primary source; 'as above so below' and the Corpus Hermeticum are name-dropped at Ch 15. The RCM lists Mathers, Regardie, Westcott, Levi, Blavatsky in the occult_primary_source bucket.
weakness: The game's own progression spine is Hermetic/Golden-Dawn, but the REAL transmission history that would make it a Layer-2 rabbit-hole is never surfaced: the Corpus Hermeticum's actual dating and Ficino's 1471 Latin translation, Casaubon's 1614 re-dating that shattered the 'ancient Egyptian' claim, the Renaissance Hermetic revival (Yates), and the Golden Dawn's real 1888 founding on the Cipher Manuscripts (Mathers/Westcott) and Regardie's later publication. The player levels through a real esoteric grade-system and never gets to discover its true (more interesting) history.
enhancement: Add a Layer-2 grounding note (in the ESOTERIC_GROUNDING doc and Thread 8) surfacing the real Hermetic transmission history as discoverable substrate — including Casaubon's re-dating as a Frame-A honesty beat (the tradition's own 'ancient Egyptian' origin claim was debunked, and the tradition is richer for it). Ground the grade-ladder on the actual Golden Dawn sources rather than leaving it an unexplained naming convention.
grounding: Frances Yates, 'Giordano Bruno and the Hermetic Tradition'; the Casaubon 1614 re-dating of the Corpus Hermeticum; Israel Regardie, 'The Golden Dawn' (the published ritual corpus); the Cipher Manuscripts / Mathers-Westcott founding — Mathers/Regardie/Westcott already in the RCM occult bucket.
guardrail: Yates is canonical Renaissance-studies scholarship; the Golden Dawn history is documented fact. Surfacing the Casaubon debunking is a pure Frame-A strengthening move (real history including its self-corrections). No pseudo-archaeology; the 'ancient Egyptian Hermes' overclaim is presented as reception-history, not fact.
[P2] [L2] T1_Threads_22 Thread Typology (22 threads = 22 Tarot Major Arcana) — the Tarot grounding
lens: L3 OCCULT / THREADS / RABBIT-HOLES — the
current: The thread system is explicitly numerologically aligned to the 22 Tarot Major Arcana (alongside 22 Hebrew letters and 22 Tree-of-Life paths). Tarot is thus load-bearing structure, but appears nowhere as content — no thread grounds or surfaces it.
weakness: The game uses the 22-Arcana structure while leaving its real history — which is a perfect Frame-A rabbit-hole — completely unexcavated. Tarot began as a 15th-century Italian card GAME (tarocchi), was NOT originally esoteric, and was retro-fitted with a fake ancient-Egyptian/Hermetic origin by Antoine Court de Gébelin (1781) and Etteilla, then systematized by the Golden Dawn. The debunked-Egyptian-origin is exactly the kind of Frame-A honesty beat §19.1 favors.
enhancement: Add a Layer-2 Tarot grounding (ESOTERIC_GROUNDING + Thread 7/8) that surfaces the real history as discoverable substrate: the 15th-c Italian game origin, de Gébelin's 1781 invention of the Egyptian-Hermetic myth, and the Golden Dawn systematization — presenting the fake-Egyptian-origin as reception-history the player uncovers. This lets the game USE its 22-structure honestly and turns a hidden scaffolding into an actual rabbit-hole.
grounding: Michael Dummett & Ronald Decker, 'A History of the Occult Tarot' / 'The Game of Tarot' (the definitive real history); Antoine Court de Gébelin's 'Le Monde primitif' (1781, the origin of the Egyptian myth). Dummett is the canonical scholarly authority.
guardrail: Dummett's Tarot history is rigorous, debunking scholarship. Surfacing the fabricated-Egyptian-origin as reception-history is a pure Frame-A strengthening (the same discipline as dropping Lemuria/Gunung Padang). No pseudo-archaeology endorsed; the fringe claim is presented as a documented 18th-century invention, not fact.
current: Ch 10 rules Thread 3 (antagonist) NOT_PRESENT as 'an L3 truth the player is never shown as a pattern' — the pre-civilizational depth the suppression never reached — and Ch 57 rules the antagonist ABSENT-by-design. Both are handled elegantly as meaningful absence.
weakness: This is genuinely strong (not a weakness to fix) — but it is a technique that could become a crutch if reused to route AROUND thin L3 rather than to encode meaning. The CANON_AUDIT separately flags Ch 34/35/36 as 'L3 not seeded / vril not the primary anchor,' where L3 is defensively skipped rather than meaningfully absent. The distinction between 'meaningful absence' (Ch 10) and 'defensive skip' (Ch 34-36) must be held.
enhancement: Codify the distinction in the ESOTERIC_GROUNDING doc: absence of a thread is only an L3 anchor when the absence itself is grounded and meaningful (Ch 10's un-reached depth); otherwise HL_0047 requires a positive, grounded L3 surfacing. For the flagged open-ocean chapters (Ch 34-36), seed grounded L3 that genuinely exists there — celestial navigation as sacred cosmology (real Polynesian/Islamic/Norse star-lore is metaphysical within its own tradition), the maritime numinous (St. Elmo's fire as real plasma phenomenon + real sailors' tradition), and open-ocean sensory-deprivation vision phenomenology — rather than routing L3 to 'not the primary anchor.'
grounding: Real wayfinding cosmology (David Lewis, 'We, the Navigators'; the Polynesian star-compass already in the corpus via Trade 10); St. Elmo's fire (documented corona-discharge plasma + documented maritime folklore); the RCM's existing navigation/earth-science sources. All real.
guardrail: Grounds skipped-L3 chapters in real navigational science and real maritime tradition — no fringe. Preserves the elegant meaningful-absence technique where it is genuinely earned (Ch 10), while enforcing HL_0047's positive-L3 requirement elsewhere. Holds §17.1 (traditions referenced respectfully). No pseudo-archaeology.
current: The Dogon-Sirius material is routed as 'the Griaule-Sirius scholarship surfaces at academic-debate-respected framing — encoded-observation-tradition rather than extraterrestrial-contact framing,' and the companion Dr. Solange Diallo entry correctly states 'the game does not resolve the controversy by canonical authority.'
weakness: Minor internal-consistency drift within an otherwise exemplary handling: 'encoded-observation-tradition' leans toward endorsing that the Dogon genuinely held ancient astronomical knowledge of the invisible Sirius B, which is itself a contested/likely-false claim (van Beek's fieldwork indicates the Sirius-B knowledge was probably co-constructed or contaminated during Griaule's fieldwork, not ancient tradition). This sits in slight tension with the Diallo entry's correct agnosticism.
enhancement: Harmonize the Amadigne framing to the Diallo standard: present the Griaule-vs-van-Beek debate and keep it unresolved, rather than phrasing that hardens into 'the Dogon really did observe/encode Sirius B.' Foreground the rich, uncontested Dogon cosmology the entry already carries (Nommo, the toguna council, the 60-year Sigui cycle, the granary cosmogram) as the authentic representation, with the Sirius question explicitly held open as a scholarly controversy.
grounding: Walter van Beek, 'Dogon Restudied' (Current Anthropology, 1991) — the standard critique of Griaule's Sirius data; Marcel Griaule, Conversations with Ogotemmeli (1948) and Griaule & Dieterlen, The Pale Fox (1965) as the primary (contested) sources, both already in the corpus. The uncontested cosmology (Nommo, Sigui, toguna) is well-attested ethnography.
guardrail: Keeps the reframe agnostic (neither the alien-contact fringe NOR an over-claimed ancient-astronomy assertion), grounded in the real anthropological debate, and centers the culture's own well-attested cosmology. No fringe/racist content; a refinement of an already-strong handling. Holds §6/§17.1.
current: Metallurgy is well-grounded in the Old World (Haya iron-smelting x37, wootz x5, tatara x2, bloomery, lost-wax) but New World metallurgy is absent: tumbaga, depletion gilding, and arsenical bronze all return 0 hits corpus-wide — despite Ch 49 Colombia / 'The Gold of El Dorado' (Bray is already a listed source) and Ch 51-55 Andes.
weakness: The Andes and Colombia had a genuinely distinct, sophisticated metallurgy that optimized color, sound, and symbolism over edge-hardness (Lechtman's thesis), and the corpus omits it — leaving the New World Mining/Blacksmithing content thinner than the Old World's and forfeiting a prime anti-pseudo-archaeology anchor (real indigenous metallurgical science vs. the 'El Dorado / lost-race' mystique).
enhancement: Anchor tumbaga (gold-copper alloy) + depletion gilding + arsenical bronze into RCM Ch 49-52 and the Mining/Blacksmithing substrate, explicitly framing Andean metallurgy's distinct value system (color/sound/symbol over hardness) as documented materials science, and tie it to the Trade 2/Trade 3 home-base praxis of Finding 3.
grounding: Heather Lechtman, 'Andean Value Systems and the Development of Prehistoric Metallurgy' (Technology and Culture, 1984) and her MIT depletion-gilding studies; David A. Scott on pre-Columbian metallurgy; Warwick Bray, The Gold of El Dorado (already a Ch 50 source).
guardrail: Real archaeometallurgy; directly counters the 'El Dorado / lost-race' mystique with documented indigenous science — the CVD §2 reframe in action. No fringe, no invention. Holds Pillar 9 and the §2 thesis.
[P2] [L2] registries/T0_Quest_Definition_Registry (16 rows, all endgame) + T0_Questline_Index (0 rows) + T0_Quest_Seed_Registry (0 rows) + the Book of Trades mechanic (T1_Trades_Master §8)
lens: L2 Material Culture + Praxis — trade (10
current: The 120 canonical trade quest gates exist only as placeholder IDs (Q_TR{n}_{tier}) inside the Trade Registry column. T0_Quest_Definition_Registry holds 16 rows, all endgame/hard-line (CH55/58/74/76/77, Prologue, Epilogue). T0_Questline_Index and T0_Quest_Seed_Registry are 0-row stubs.
weakness: The mechanism by which praxis actually reaches the player — the tier-gated quests where you learn wootz smithing, agada-tantra toxicology, or nixtamalization step by step — is entirely unbuilt, so 'the trade master teaches worldview alongside skill' (Pillar 9 / §17.6) has no questline substrate. This is deferred to Phase-4/Tier-5 authoring, but flagging it here ensures the praxis enrichment above lands in gate CONTENT, not just chapter prose.
enhancement: When the trade gate quests are authored, bind each Inner-Order gate to the specific materia/technique from the enriched Trade Praxis registry (Finding 3) so mastery surfaces real technique — e.g. Blacksmithing Practicus = the wootz crucible cycle; Herbalism Adeptus Minor = agada-tantra visha classification; Culinary Theoricus = nixtamalization — instead of a generic 'gather N herbs' loop. Populate T0_Questline_Index and seed the trade gates in the Quest registries.
grounding: The named traditions in CVD §14.3 plus Findings 2/3/5; no new canon — this is a wiring note so Tier-5 gate authoring consumes the grounded praxis rather than re-abstracting it.
guardrail: No invention; ties the existing 120-gate framework to already-grounded, already-attributed praxis. Holds Pillar 9, §17.5, §17.6.
[P2] [L2] Ch 11 Central Africa (Congo Basin) — docs/spine/CH_11.md + RCM + T3 characters
lens: L2 Cultural Substrate — history, religio
current: The (genuinely rich) built spine entry represents Central Africa entirely through Baka/Mbuti forest hunter-gatherer knowledge, the Bwiti death-rebirth ceremony, and the Belgian Congo Free State extraction wound. Its twelve-facet 'everything-woven' layer is strong on ecology/ceremony/colonial-history but carries no Central African statecraft, urbanism, or courtly art.
weakness: The great Central African kingdoms and their 'marks on the world' are absent: the Kingdom of Kongo (a centralized Christian-diplomatic state, the manikongo, mbanza-Kongo, Afonso I's literate Portuguese correspondence from the 1500s), the Kuba Kingdom (ndop royal portrait sculpture, elaborate raffia cut-pile 'Kasai velvet' textiles, a constitutional monarchy with councils), and the Luba (the lukasa memory board — a genuine African information/mnemonic technology, especially apt for a game about inscription and memory). Representing the Congo only as forest wisdom + colonial victim reinforces the erase-statecraft skew.
enhancement: Add a Layer-2 civilizational reach to Ch 11 (the chapter already spans a five-country reach; Kuba is Kasai, Kongo is the lower Congo, both within it — a link/reach rather than a re-scoping): surface the Kuba art/textile tradition, Kongo statecraft and literate diplomacy, and the Luba lukasa as an inscription-pillar 'mark.' Alternatively route it through the Ch 40/59 modern-and-revisit nodes. Preserve the deep-rainforest Baka/Mbuti core; add the kingdoms as the region's statecraft-and-art dimension. Josh confirms placement.
grounding: Jan Vansina, Paths in the Rainforests, The Children of Woot: A History of the Kuba Peoples, and Kingdoms of the Savanna; the Kongo-Portuguese correspondence of Afonso I (Mvemba a Nzinga); Mary Nooter Roberts on the Luba lukasa (Memory: Luba Art and the Making of History).
guardrail: All real, canonical Africanist history/art-history sources; foregrounds documented African statecraft and art against the erase-achievement trope; no fringe content; the Kongo Christian-diplomatic and Kuba/Luba courtly material villainizes no one; a reach/link that respects the chapter's existing geographic scoping; upholds §6.2 elevated-care and Pillar 5.
