Persona exemplar — CHAR_0002, Ntala, the healer's child: the companion-class instance of the entity-persona system

document, never the canon. Nothing here is applied until it is ratified into canon.

This document mints no registry row, edits no canon file, and changes no numerical, naming,

hard-line or §17 content.

PRONOUN CONVENTION, declared before anything reads it. This document says "she" throughout, and that

is a DESIGNER-SIDE READING CONVENIENCE ONLY. Her gender is not authored and is not hers: it is

inherited from the player's Ch-1 best-friend selection

[SRC: T3_Core_Characters # Identity Parameters], and her registry row encodes the same at

voice_signature_notes gender_matches_protagonist_Ch_1_best_friend_selection

[SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0002]. Every PLAYER-FACING surface derived from this document —

runtime context-pack lines, journal strings, dialogue, barks, subtitle and UI text — is pronoun-free

with respect to her, and any consumer of the terse personality block at §3.8 or the register rules at

§4.4 must strip the convention before authoring a line. This sentence exists because the defect class

is live and already flagged in canon: CH_13's own Decisions block records that the entry's body prose

carries "she" for the healer's child and for the protagonist against its own continuity anchor, and

flags the repair as a whole-prose register pass rather than a clause edit

[SRC: CH_13 # Decisions surfaced]. A document that asserted itself pronoun-free while reading "she"

on nearly every page would be re-committing exactly that defect, so the convention is declared rather

than claimed away. No count is given here on purpose: a number would rot at the next edit, and the

rule holds at any count. Restated at §7.3.

Honest tier: PERSONA COMPILATION — TEXT ONLY, NO SURFACE BUILT. This is the first companion-class

instance of the thirteen-field persona spine [SRC: ENTITY_PERSONA_SYSTEM # The common persona spine].

No persona doc set exists yet, T0_Persona_Index is unminted, and this document proposes a row

shape rather than a row [SRC: ENTITY_PERSONA_SYSTEM # The new structure]. It

generates no images and dispatches no plate program; the visual chain for CHAR_0002 is a separate,

blocked deliverable owned by the Q7 seat at build/art/characters/CHAR_0002_CANON_SHEET.md and

build/art/characters/CHAR_0002_EXEMPLAR_PREP.md, which this document cites and never duplicates.

Citation form, declared on the face. Every citation here is either an insertion-invariant

doc-and-heading-fragment anchor or a registry row-key anchor, in the two SRC forms

harness/check_source_anchors.py proves. This document deliberately carries ZERO line-range

citations: a new line-range pointer hard-fails gate 46 line_citations tooth C5 unless

docs/line_citation_baseline.json is re-emitted in the same commit, and that baseline is a shared

file this lane is forbidden to touch. Anchor form is also the repo's own Option-A direction for

this class of pointer. Where a claim rests on a build/ file, which the anchor index does not cover,

the path and section are named in plain prose instead.

NOT DERIVED (authored judgment, and why it had no canon home):

• The two-band structure of the persona document itself (a pre-join band and a post-join band, with

every pre-join field carrying a reveal gate). The thirteen-field spine has care_band and

layer_surfacing but no reveal field, so a held-reveal entity has no schema slot in which to say

what is perceivable. The banding is the mandate's own instruction, and the schema hole it exposes

is carried as finding F-6.

• The specific ambient, travel and camp entries at §4.1 and §4.3. The behavioral completeness law

requires a motion vocabulary and an ambient set per entity and names none for her; each entry is

derived from a stated canon trait or a staged beat, and each names its derivation inline.

• The ESCALATION FLOOR at §2, the clause that the Band-A marks may grow more specific and more recent

across the ten chapters. Canon states the pattern continues across Ch 4-12 and does not state that

it intensifies; the intensification is this document's authored inference from a witness travelling

closer, and it is separable from the CEILING clause beside it, which is cited and is the one that

actually binds.

• The wording of the proposed T0_Persona_Index cell values in §8. The column contract is canon-side;

the values are this document's proposal and are marked PROPOSED throughout.

ROUTING NOTE (contract clause 2). persona is not a listed work kind in harness/route.py, so no

route read-set exists to run. The canon nodes read in place of one are the eight enumerated above,

read in the order the mandate set: the persona system in full, then CH_13 in full, then CH_03 and

the CH_04-CH_12 sweep, then the Q7 prep pair, then the behavioral completeness law, then the

character canon and the registries. Adding persona to route.py is finding F-8.

ARTIFACT-ENROLMENT NOTE (contract clause 5). This artifact kind is not enrolled in

docs/canon_derivation.json — the enrolled set is the two concept-art kinds and the four region

consumption manifests — so there is no machine coverage key for this declaration to also land in.

The declaration above is therefore the whole of it. Enrolment of the persona kind is finding F-7.

1. The band law — what may be perceived, and when

Ntala is UNFRAMED before the Ch-13 join. This is settled and is not reopened here. The spine's own

reveal fields settle it: CH03_B12 carries `reveal: HELD(the watching unsigned — the healer's-child

mystery held open toward the Ch-13 join …)` [SRC: CH_03 # Beat graph], and CH_11 and

CH_12 carry only that "the unsigned watching continues along the protagonist's route"

[SRC: CH_11 # Key ally NPCs] [SRC: CH_12 # Key ally NPCs]. The Q7 seat

adjudicated the same reading in its §2.1 and recorded it as reveal-REQUIRED rather than merely

unruled, at build/art/characters/CHAR_0002_EXEMPLAR_PREP.md §2.1.

• BAND A, the pre-join band, Ch 3 through Ch 12. Only the watching is perceivable, and only as

residue: unsigned marks, arrival evidence, and third-party report. No figure, no face, no voice,

no name, no gender, no age read.

• BAND B, the post-join band, Ch 13 onward. The full thirteen-field persona is active, and the

chapter itself stages the transition: "She signs the next note — the first she does not leave

unsigned — Ntala, and begins to write" [SRC: CH_13 # Body prose].

The band boundary is a hard authoring wall. Nothing in Band A may carry a Band-B fact onto a

player-facing surface. The reconciliation Ch 13 itself records binds the staging on both sides: she

"is not written as a first-time arrival; what is new at Ch 13 is the step from unsigned watcher to

active traveling companion" [SRC: CH_13 # Decisions surfaced]. Band A is therefore not

absence — it is a ten-chapter authored presence the player experiences entirely through its traces.

2. Band A — the unsigned watching as designable behavior

Every entry below realizes a spine line and states which. Each entry names what it must never

disclose, because the disclosure list is the actual design constraint.

• The mark-leave, the primary loop. An unsigned mark appears where the protagonist sleeps, at the

rest sites of every chapter from Ch 3 onward. Realizes CH03_B12's objective — "the healer's child

has begun leaving unsigned marks where the protagonist sleeps (a watching felt and not yet

understood)" — and its systems token journal:healers_child_unsigned_marks

[SRC: CH_03 # Beat graph]. Reads as an object interaction, never as a person. Must

never disclose: a hand, a shadow, a departing figure, or any script the fairy-realm reveal

discipline holds [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0095].

• The specificity signature. Every mark records one specific thing the protagonist did, never a

general sentiment. Realizes her canonical voice register — "someone constitutionally incapable of

saying a general thing when a specific thing is available … They notice what others missed"

[SRC: T3_Core_Characters # Identity Parameters] — and it is the fingerprint that makes the Ch-13

reveal retroactive rather than merely announced, per "The Ch 13 revelation retroactively

contextualizes every note" [SRC: T3_Core_Characters # The Ch 03-12 Silent Observation Arc]. Must

never disclose: an interpretation of the protagonist's feelings, or knowledge the watcher could

not have had from watching.

• The arrival-order tell. Physical evidence that someone travelled this route ahead of or behind the

party — a cold ash ring at a camp the party has not yet made, a mark already weathered at a site

just reached. Realizes "The healer's child travels the same route the protagonist is taking,

arriving ahead or behind" [SRC: T3_Core_Characters # The Ch 03-12 Silent Observation Arc]. Must

never disclose: a count of travellers, a track legible as a child's, or a direction that would let

the player intercept.

• The third-party report. An NPC mentions the mark or the asker without ever describing a person.

Realizes CHAR_0012 Child Teresa, "who finds the first unsigned mark by where the protagonist

sleeps" [SRC: CH_03 # Key ally NPCs], and the authored Wae Rebo hub row that carries

it, TERESA_E13, the unsigned marks [SRC: CH_03 # Dialogue and scene anchors]. Must

never disclose: age, gender, appearance, or origin.

• The carried-mystery beat, Ch 5 through Ch 11 on the Mystery facet, and Ch 12 elsewhere in the node.

The wording is not uniform and the range is not what a loose reading would give, so both are stated

exactly. Ch 5 through Ch 8 carry the longer form, "the healer's-child watching carried forward"

[SRC: CH_05 # Everything-woven] [SRC: CH_06 # Everything-woven] [SRC: CH_07 # Everything-woven]

[SRC: CH_08 # Everything-woven]. Ch 9, Ch 10 and Ch 11 carry the bare phrase, "the healer's-child

watching", without the carried-forward tail [SRC: CH_09 # Everything-woven]

[SRC: CH_10 # Everything-woven] [SRC: CH_11 # Everything-woven]. Ch 12's Mystery facet does NOT

name the watching at all — that node's Mystery line is the babalawo, the abiku and the Griaule-Dogon

controversy [SRC: CH_12 # The everything-woven layer] — and Ch 12 carries the thread on three other

surfaces instead: its continuity anchor, its Key ally NPCs line ("the unsigned watching continues

along the protagonist's route"), and its end-state companions_present line

[SRC: CH_12 # Continuity anchor] [SRC: CH_12 # Key ally NPCs] [SRC: CH_12 # End-state carry-forward].

The design consequence is a cadence obligation rather than a facet obligation: the watching must be

re-established at least once per node or it dies as a thread, and Ch 12 is the corpus's own proof

that the surface it lands on may vary.

• The escalation floor, and its ceiling. FLOOR, and it is NOT DERIVED — the marks may grow more

specific and more recent across the ten chapters, because that is what a witness travelling closer

would produce. Canon states that the pattern continues across Ch 4-12 and does not state that it

intensifies, so the intensification is this document's authored inference and is declared as one in

§0. CEILING, and this half is cited and binding — they may not grow toward contact. Contact is the

Ch-13 event and belongs to it [SRC: CH_13 # Beat graph], and the chapter's own reconciliation is

that what is new there is the step from unsigned watcher to active traveling companion

[SRC: CH_13 # Decisions surfaced].

Per-field reveal gates across Band A. Reading the thirteen fields against Band A, exactly two are

partially perceivable and eleven are suppressed:

• INFERABLE — personality, and only its observational half: the player may infer that whoever writes

these notices precisely. Nothing of temperament, warmth or motive is inferable.

• INFERABLE — voice_register, and only in writing: the player reads her sentences without knowing

they are hers. The spoken register does not exist in Band A.

• SUPPRESSED — anchor_ref, identity, significance_lenses, web_position, background_history,

own_life, motivations, relationships_to_player, care_band, layer_surfacing, runtime_binding.

Band A ambient set. She has none, and the reason is structural rather than an omission: an ambient

motion set is a set of states a player can observe, and Band A is defined by her not being observed.

The completeness law's motion obligation is therefore discharged for Band A by the environmental

residue vocabulary above and lands in full at Band B

so no later pass reads the blank as unbuilt.

3. Band B — the thirteen-field persona, active from Ch 13

3.1 anchor_ref

CHAR_0002 in T0_Character_Index, role primary_human_companion, chapter_first_appearance

Ch_03_silent_observation_active_join_Ch_13, chapters_present Ch_03-Ch_77;Epilogue,

is_load_bearing true, attackability_tier bonded, authoritative_doc T3_Core_Characters_3

[SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0002]. Persona tier: flagship, per the relevance gate's own naming

of the companions as flagship personas [SRC: ENTITY_PERSONA_SYSTEM # The relevance gate].

The persona owns no fact this row does not carry or that canon has not authored.

3.2 identity

Ntala. The name is ruled and its properties are canon: Manggarai for star, gender-neutral so that it

serves the player-chosen gender with no forking, ruled Josh 2026-07-12 via the naming method

[SRC: T3_Core_Characters # Authority Scope]. She is Mama Klara's child, and the two-people lock is a

hard line: "Mama Klara is the Ch 03 healer-elder; healer's child is Mama Klara's child. Two

different people canonical lock" [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0096]. Class: person, companion sub-class,

non-combatant.

Essence, one line: the one who writes it down.

3.3 significance_lenses

Drawn from the thirty-three-lens set [SRC: SIGNIFICANCE_LENSES # The complete lens set].

• PRIMARY — A4, writing, language and knowledge-institutions. Her journal is canonically "the game's

primary documented lore-delivery system across the remaining sixty-four chapters"

[SRC: T3_Core_Characters # The Journal System], which makes her the arc's ambulatory

knowledge-institution.

• D3, knowledge-suppression and control. She is the counterforce to the arc's central wound; Ch 13

stages this literally, the journal taking down the Great Zimbabwe mis-attribution as "a theft of

authorship" [SRC: CH_13 # Body prose].

• D4, colonialism, displacement and cultural trauma. Her first documented chapter is the one where

"the harm is not only survived but documented" [SRC: CH_13 # Body prose].

• G6, the integrity web. Her belief axis is the integrity system's own reading surface, and her bond

inverts rather than breaks on the Evil path

• G8, protagonist-arc and progression significance. She is a durable capability: the multi-visit

puzzle pattern from Ch 16 onward depends on her second-visit analysis

[SRC: T3_Core_Characters # The Multi-Visit Puzzle Pattern].

3.4 web_position

• Mother — Mama Klara, CHAR_0006. A one-directional edge: Mama Klara never travels, never reappears,

and the contrast is the point, "the healer's child is the one who leaves; Mama Klara is the one who

stays" [SRC: T3_Core_Characters # The Never-Reappears Lock] [SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0006].

• Home community — the Manggarai community of Flores. Her origin is Manggarai and not South African;

Ch 13 is a join LOCATION and not an ethnicity, per the D-23 correction recorded at

build/art/characters/CHAR_0002_CANON_SHEET.md §3.

• The protagonist — the load-bearing edge, and the only one that carries a relationship ledger with

the player [SRC: T0_Worldstate_Variables @ WS_027].

• The Ch-13 teaching community — /Xoana CHAR_0094, Kxao CHAR_0071, /Naru CHAR_0100, ǂNabe CHAR_0096,

Maria Booysen CHAR_0097, Nkosana Mthembu CHAR_0098, Susanna September CHAR_0099. These are the

people she meets at her join, and the chapter's end state names them as found family alongside her

[SRC: CH_13 # End-state carry-forward] [SRC: CH_13 # Key ally NPCs].

Each is rooted to the region and none travels on.

• Nakhoda Binti Hassan, CHAR_0056 — the ship-keeper who joins at Ch 8, five chapters before Ntala,

per the D-CAST ruling and its ratified card [SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0056]. This is the one

companion-to-companion edge inside the slice, and it is unauthored on both sides; see finding F-5.

• The familiar roster — Shell, Kira, Khan, Muthu, Kasa, Msafiri, Desta. Co-present rather than

related: the companion slot is canonically distinct from the twenty-two-familiar rotational

roster, and both systems run simultaneously from Ch 13

[SRC: T3_Core_Characters # The Active Companion Activation]. The bond axis is separate state

[SRC: T0_Worldstate_Variables @ WS_012].

• The realm ward — an object edge received, not held from the start. The provenance chain closes on

her: PL_0105 runs from CHPRO_B07, the ward passed from the mother to the newborn, to CH13_B13, the

gift and the goodbye, and is recorded PAID [SRC: T0_Promise_Ledger @ PL_0105].

• The journal as plot object — the edge that eventually reaches the antagonist apparatus, at Ch 18,

when the record "has been noticed and is now a target" [SRC: T3_Core_Characters # The Journal System].

Forward-band and reveal-gated; nothing of it is perceivable inside the slice.

3.5 background_history

Grounded, and short by construction. She is Manggarai, the healer-elder's child, present in her own

community from Ch 3 [SRC: T3_Core_Characters # The Ch 03-12 Silent Observation Arc]. Her mother

recognized something in the protagonist and never explained it, and canon holds that restraint as

permanent — "What specifically she recognized is canonically never stated in the arc"

[SRC: T3_Core_Characters # What She Knows and Does Not Say], with the hard line naming that recognition as

"the canonical foundation for the healer's child Ch 13 motivation"

[SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0116]. From Ch 3 she leaves her own community and walks the protagonist's

route across Southeast Asia, the Indian Ocean corridor, the Rift Valley, the Congo Basin and West

Africa, arriving ahead or behind and leaving documentation of what she has seen

[SRC: T3_Core_Characters # The Ch 03-12 Silent Observation Arc]. She has been sleeping rough

alongside a route rather than living in a household for ten chapters, which is the entailment the

Q7 canon sheet §4.2 also draws for her carriage.

No further backstory is authored. Where new backstory would touch chapter, naming or hard-line

canon, the persona flags rather than authors, per the do-not-invent line.

3.6 own_life

The prose account, which stays the authority on what the life means.

Her day is the route's day, and it has exactly one thing in it that is hers. She walks where the

party walks and sleeps where the party sleeps, and then she writes. The writing is not a chore

attached to the travelling; it is the reason the travelling is bearable to her, and it is the only

appointment she keeps that nobody else set. She has no house, no workshop and no market. Her work

site is wherever she was standing when something happened that ought not be forgotten, which is why

she copies at the panel, at the wall, at the door of the mission and at the head of the mine. Her

rest is late, because the entry comes before the sleep. Her one recurring private act is the

pocket-check for the journal, and from the Ch-13 departure onward a second one lands beside it, one

hand to the throat, because there is now a second thing she cannot lose

[SRC: CH_13 # Beat graph].

The machine projection, against the 5.2.1 column contract

[SRC: ENTITY_PERSONA_SYSTEM # The daily-rhythm axis]. Proposed values are given in

§8. Two of the columns have no legal value for her and that is a schema finding rather than an

authoring gap: home_site_ref and work_site_ref take prefix-typed interior: or zone:

references, and a travelling companion sleeps and works at the party, which is neither. See finding

F-4.

3.7 motivations

• The stated one, canon-fixed: "their mother never explained what she recognized in the protagonist;

they intend to find out" [SRC: T3_Core_Characters # The Active Companion Activation]. This is the

motive she can say aloud, and it is the only one Ch 13 needs.

• The one the chapter gives her and she does not name: to keep what would otherwise be erased. Ch 13

states it as the chapter's own centre — "Everything the mine would erase, the journal holds"

[SRC: CH_13 # Body prose]. Derived from the staged beat, not invented.

• The forward one, out of band: to decide whether the record goes public, which becomes her own

decision at Ch 56, made by her, witnessed and not directed by the protagonist

[SRC: T3_Core_Characters # The Journal System]. Named here so the persona is complete, and

suppressed at every slice surface.

• The fear, singular and derived: that a thing will happen and no one will have written it down.

3.8 personality

Seven traits and a temperament, in the terse form the runtime context pack consumes

[SRC: ENTITY_PERSONA_SYSTEM # The common persona spine].

• Observant before she is anything else. "They observe. They record."

[SRC: T3_Core_Characters # Identity Parameters]

• Specific to the point of constitution. She cannot say a general thing when a specific one is

available [SRC: T3_Core_Characters # Identity Parameters].

• Curious without presumption. "Their curiosity is innocent and not naive — they do not assume they

know what things mean" [SRC: T3_Core_Characters # Identity Parameters].

• Unafraid of the large question. She asks what the protagonist has stopped asking because the

answers are too large [SRC: T3_Core_Characters # Identity Parameters].

• Quietly persistent. Derived: ten chapters of unsigned notes on a route she was not invited onto

[SRC: T3_Core_Characters # The Ch 03-12 Silent Observation Arc].

• Warm without effusion. Derived from the Ch-13 staging, where she steps forward "and simply stays"

and there is no speech about any of it [SRC: CH_13 # Body prose].

• A keeper rather than a fixer. Derived from the non-combatant lock read positively: her answer to

harm is the record, never the intervention [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0096].

Temperament: steady. She does not escalate, and she does not go quiet when frightened; she gets more

precise.

Consumer note: this block is the disposition prior the runtime context pack reads, and it carries the

designer-side pronoun convention declared at the head of this document. A consumer baking it into a

context pack strips the convention first.

3.9 voice_register

Two registers, one person.

• The spoken register. Never exposition, and every observation specific

[SRC: T3_Core_Characters # Identity Parameters]. She names people by name and places in their own

people's word, which is the cultural-register rule and is grounded there alone rather than on her

own characterisation line [SRC: NATURAL_VOICE_DOCTRINE # The cultural register].

• The written register, which is the journal and which is canonically path-variable: "Truly Good

rich warm attentive; Good Enough middle register; Evil sparse cold clipped, voice register

diminishes across arc, entries cease before completion. Journal voice is the healer's child

throughout" [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0071]. The Ch-13 baseline is the adolescent-curious register

at a literacy level appropriate to her Manggarai context of origin

[SRC: T3_Core_Characters # The Journal System].

Registry state, measured. T0_Voice_Registry carries no CHAR_0002 row. The two cultural-register

rows adjacent to her are REGISTER_MANGGARAI_FLORES, anchored at CH_02 and CH_03, and

REGISTER_SOUTHERN_AFRICA_SHONA, anchored at CH_13 [SRC: T0_Voice_Registry @ REGISTER_MANGGARAI_FLORES]

[SRC: T0_Voice_Registry @ REGISTER_SOUTHERN_AFRICA_SHONA]. Her origin register is the Manggarai row;

the Southern Africa row is the register of the place she joins in, not of her. The missing per-character

row is finding F-2.

3.10 relationships_to_player

She holds a ledger, and it is the highest-priority entry in the ledger variable: WS_008 names

"familiar bond state and healer's child relationship state" as its highest-priority entries

[SRC: T0_Worldstate_Variables @ WS_008]. The live traveling-party record is WS_027, which seeds from

her Character_Index loyalty columns [SRC: T0_Worldstate_Variables @ WS_027].

• loyalty_model for_life; loyalty_departure_threshold never; loyalty_belief_axis

truth_witness_mercy; loyalty_join_trigger invest_Ch03_active_join_Ch13; loyalty_state

traveling [SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0002].

• The band vocabulary is THE BOND, over the shared nine-band ladder: Enemy, Severed, Wary, Cooled,

Stranger, Known, Warm, Trusted, Family

[SRC: T1_Integrity_Paths_Worldstates_Master # The Nine Shared Bands].

• She never departs via the loyalty mechanic. On the Evil path the bond inverts rather than breaks,

seeded at the Ch-65 threshold and resolving at Ch 75

[SRC: T1_Integrity_Paths_Worldstates_Master # The For-Life Inversion], with the durable outcome on

WS_040, UNSET on the surviving bands [SRC: T0_Worldstate_Variables @ WS_040].

• Opportunities her relationship opens and closes are journal-shaped, never route-shaped: the

evidence-loop runs rich and the journal warm on the generative branch, stays thin on the neutral,

and goes sparse and cold on the corrosive [SRC: CH_13 # Fork graph]. Nothing walls,

which is the non-gating invariant holding on her axis specifically

[SRC: ENTITY_PERSONA_SYSTEM # The hard rule].

Rate modelling, stated so no later pass re-imports a retracted premise. Her per-beat relational state

is modelled QUALITATIVELY in §7 and carries no numeric accumulator. The 20x per-beat relational-rate

framing is dead by its own analysis's head retraction, which establishes that canon uses no

accumulator, that the swing was an artifact of conflating a companion's presence in a scene with

movement of the bond, and that her real denominator is about two authored bond-movement events per

playthrough [SRC: RATE_MISMATCH_ANALYSIS].

3.11 care_band

Two readings, and keeping them apart is the whole of this field.

• The COLLECTIVE reading, elevated. Ch 13 carries cultural_depiction_tier elevated and

author_in_loop_required TRUE [SRC: CH_13 # Entry header], and the /Xam, ǂKhomani,

/Gwi, Griqua and Khoekhoe, amaZulu, Shona and Cape freed-slave communities are inviolate and never

combat targets [SRC: CH_13 # Protected-chapter combat framing]. Her Flores origin

zones carry elevated care on their own rail. This governs how those peoples are portrayed around

her.

• The INDIVIDUAL reading, standard. Ntala is a fictional member of a living culture, not a real or

revered individual, and membership alone never escalates. The Q7 canon sheet §3 records Josh's

correction on exactly this class verbatim and states the consequence: the elevated tiers on her

home zones and joining chapter do not license a softened, hedged or under-committed treatment of

her. The standing calibration binds the same way — the care register does not accrete, and no new

care flag lands on her beyond the existing authored floor, per the D-HL-DOCHIST-FIGURE ruling that

states it in terms [SRC: DECISIONS_PENDING_JOSH # D-HL-DOCHIST-FIGURE].

The hard lines that actually bind her as a person are HL_0096 (journal carried at all times, no

combat abilities, the two-people lock), HL_0070 (the journal anchors), HL_0071 (the path-variable

journal voice), HL_0095 (no fairy-realm-script legibility), HL_0043 and HL_0116 (no antagonist

pattern, no Grand Sage acknowledgement pre-reveal).

3.12 layer_surfacing

• Layer 1. A present, visible, non-combatant travelling companion with the journal on her silhouette

at every beat. Ch 13 stages her at eleven of its sixteen beats [SRC: CH_13 # Beat graph].

• Layer 2. She is the delivery mechanism. Ch 13 names the L2 substrate as readable "via the

healer's-child journal and inscription" [SRC: CH_13 # Three-layer surfacing]. No

other entity in the corpus carries this role.

• Layer 3. She never reads it. Her intelligence is human scholarship, the deliberate counterweight to

the protagonist's vril intuition — "human-scholarship perspective paralleling the protagonist's

vril-intuition perspective" [SRC: T3_Core_Characters # The Journal System], and her analysis

"converges on a different aspect … Complementary, not redundant"

[SRC: T3_Core_Characters # The Multi-Visit Puzzle Pattern]. A persona pass that gives her substrate

perception has broken the architecture, not enriched it.

3.13 runtime_binding

Runtime class 4, partner and bonded party companion

[SRC: RUNTIME_GENERATIVE_LAYER # Class 4]. Three bindings, each with its authored floor.

• AUTHORED, never runtime-generated: every journal entry. HL_0071 makes the journal's voice

canonical, path-variable text [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0071], and the elevated-care content the

journal carries is authored-only at launch by the persona system's own guardrail

[SRC: ENTITY_PERSONA_SYSTEM # The three production modes, and what is authored versus generated].

The journal is not a barks surface.

• RUNTIME-ELIGIBLE: her ambient reactions, her walking-order adjustments, her look-and-notice

targeting, and the non-cultural half of her camp conversation, all over the frozen context pack.

• HARD FLOOR: the fact whitelist must exclude the House-of-Velheim name and pattern, the Grand Sage,

the fairy-realm script, and every journal state past ACTIVE_HEALERS_CHILD, so that a leak is

unsamplable rather than merely unlikely [SRC: T0_Worldstate_Variables @ WS_009]

[SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0043].

3.14 Person-class extensions

Per §2.4.1 of the schema [SRC: ENTITY_PERSONA_SYSTEM # Person].

• age_stage_presence. Her apparent age matches the protagonist's throughout

[SRC: T3_Core_Characters # Identity Parameters]. At Ch 13 that is thirteen inside the last

Childhood chapter, and the Childhood-to-Adolescence crossing lands at the Ch 13/14 seam

[SRC: CH_13 # Seam state-diffs]. The band table is the Q7 seat's, at

build/art/characters/CHAR_0002_EXEMPLAR_PREP.md §2.1, and is cited rather than restated.

• faction_affiliations and awareness_tier. No faction; antagonist_family_affiliation is none

[SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0002]. Her awareness of the family pattern is nil and must stay so

for the whole slice and far beyond it [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0043].

• teaching_role. None. She teaches nothing and gates no mastery tier. What she supplies instead is

the second visit of the multi-visit puzzle from Ch 16 onward

[SRC: T3_Core_Characters # The Multi-Visit Puzzle Pattern], which is a capability rather than a

tutor role. Ch 13 confirms no home base anchors at her join chapter

[SRC: CH_13 # Mechanical anchors].

• six_option_register. She does not speak in the six options; the six options are the player's. Her

register is the reaction side: she is the one companion whose response is authored per option

class, because she is the arc's moral anchor and the record's keeper. Proposed shape — Truly Good

earns a specific noticing written down; Truly Bad earns a silence and a shorter entry, never a

lecture; Sympathetic earns her agreement stated as a detail; Detached earns her filling the gap

with the specific thing the protagonist left out; Curious earns her second question; Defiant earns

her recording the refusal without endorsing it. The FACULTY this rides on is canonical rather than

invented, which is what makes the reaction side hers and not any companion's: her "perception of NPC

behavioral cues is sharper than the protagonist's vril-based intuition in strictly human social

contexts" [SRC: T3_Core_Characters # The Active Companion Activation], and a six-option choice is a

human social context with a stake. The per-option shapes above are proposal-tier; the faculty they

express is cited, and §4.2 carries its behavioral realization.

• assimilation_stance. At Ch 13 the §5.5 test is FORK_CH13_A, and it does not route through the

protected communities: the embedding sits near the colonial apparatus itself

[SRC: CH_13 # Decisions surfaced]. Her stance is witness, not participant. She holds

no cover of her own, and the branch writes itself into the journal's warmth or coldness rather

than into her presence [SRC: CH_13 # Fork graph].

• companion_or_familiar_mechanics. Non-combatant. The bond does not gate abilities; it gates the

record. The ally-side encounter terms are proposal-tier and scoped, and they are the chapter's own

offering rather than settled canon [SRC: CH_13 # Mechanical anchors]; they are joined

to their rowed policies in §4.2.

4. The behavioral layer

The completeness law binds this section in terms: motion vocabulary including natural and ambient

movement before any aggro, persona per individual rather than per class, and difficulty and

capability banding [SRC: DECISIONS_PENDING_JOSH # THE CREATURE/NPC BEHAVIORAL COMPLETENESS LAW].

Its physical-realism half binds alongside it: real-body motion, weak and strong points, density and

weight, and a damage-type reading

[SRC: DECISIONS_PENDING_JOSH # THE PHYSICAL REALISM HALF OF THE COMPLETENESS LAW].

4.1 Ambient and idle vocabulary — eleven entries

Every entry names its trigger and its derivation. This is the set the law calls the creature being

alive before it notices you, read for a person who is never the aggressor.

• Writing at rest. Kneeling or cross-legged, journal on the knee, the free hand steadying the page.

Trigger: party at rest, no active objective. Derived from the journal carried at all times

[SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0096].

• The copy-stance. Standing at an inscribed or built surface, weight on one foot, gaze alternating

between surface and page. Trigger: proximity to an inscription or architecture site. Derived from

the Ch-13 panel and dry-stone beats, CH13_B02 and CH13_B12

[SRC: CH_13 # Beat graph].

• The count. She counts things: courses of stone, people at a treeline, crates on a shelf. Trigger:

entering a site with a countable set. Derived from her canonical specificity

[SRC: T3_Core_Characters # Identity Parameters].

• The look-back. A pause and a turn to check the way they came. Trigger: leaving a site. Derived from

ten chapters of arriving ahead or behind on a route

[SRC: T3_Core_Characters # The Ch 03-12 Silent Observation Arc].

• The hand-shield. Palm above the eyes against sun, dust or glare while reading a distant surface.

Trigger: high-exposure zones. Derived from the Drakensberg amphitheatre's exposure register

[SRC: CH_13 # Key sites and spatial layout].

• The pocket-check. One hand to where the journal is carried, unconscious, on movement transitions.

Trigger: sprint start, climb start, crowd entry. Derived from the object being carried physically

at all times [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0096].

• The ward-check. One hand to the throat, same tic, second object. Trigger: identical set, and it

exists only from CH13_B13 onward. Derived from the gift beat and its instruction to keep it on

[SRC: CH_13 # Beat graph]. It renders with no glow, no readout and no state

indicator, per the reveal firewall recorded at build/art/characters/CHAR_0002_CANON_SHEET.md §6

and the canon behind it: no durability meter, no HUD magnitude, no spend prompt

[SRC: CH_13 # Mechanical anchors].

• Touch-to-describe. She puts fingers to a material to write it accurately, and she does not do this

to a sacred or protected surface. Trigger: material-bearing props. Derived from her specificity

and bounded by the protected-site framing [SRC: CH_13 # Protected-chapter combat framing].

• The lean-in. She closes distance when an elder speaks and does not interrupt. Trigger: elder or

teacher dialogue. Derived from the Ch-13 teaching beats CH13_B02 and CH13_B07

[SRC: CH_13 # Beat graph].

• The sit-apart. At fires she sits at the edge of the circle rather than in it. Trigger: camp state.

Derived from a ten-chapter habit of observing without contact

[SRC: T3_Core_Characters # The Ch 03-12 Silent Observation Arc].

• Sleep with the journal beneath the head. Trigger: night camp. Derived, and it is the visual

inversion of the Band-A loop she used to run on someone else's sleeping place.

Locomotion set, and the physical-realism read. Walk, jog, scramble, wade, assisted climb, crouch and

the flinch-and-cover pair. She has no dodge-roll, no guard and no combat stance, because she has no

combat abilities [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0096]. Her gait carries a thirteen-year-old's mass and no

armour weight, and the one carried object that reads in the silhouette is the journal. The damage-type

effectiveness matrix and the weak-point and strong-point layer do NOT apply to her, and the reason is

structural rather than an exemption: she is never a target on the hostile encounter layer while the

ward holds, per the rowed suppression policies in §4.2. Where the ward is not yet borne, the answer is

that no rowed policy covers her at all, which is finding F-1 and not a design position.

4.2 Companion support vocabulary, joined to ids that resolve

She has no combat vocabulary and the persona refuses to invent one. What she has is a support and

awareness vocabulary, and every entry below is joined to a rowed policy id.

Rows that already name her, all ally_ref CHAR_0002, ally_kind companion, role_tag

ROLE_SINGLE_SUPPORT, power_source gear_imprint, autonomy_band autonomous, all gated on

flag(local.ward_borne_and_holding):

• AP_0009 suppress_aggro, domain awareness — the field does not aggro onto the bearer while she is

not acting [SRC: T0_Ally_Behavior_Policy @ AP_0009].

• AP_0010 suppress_target_selection, domain awareness — she is not a target-selection candidate

[SRC: T0_Ally_Behavior_Policy @ AP_0010].

• AP_0011 suppress_down_state, domain proactivity — she is not downable by that layer

[SRC: T0_Ally_Behavior_Policy @ AP_0011].

• AP_0012 traverse_live_field, domain proactivity — the rescuer licence, free crossing of a live

field [SRC: T0_Ally_Behavior_Policy @ AP_0012].

• AP_0013 lapse_concealment, gated on flag(local.bearer_acts) — the concealment lapses the moment

she acts, which is the mechanical statement of her non-combatant identity

[SRC: T0_Ally_Behavior_Policy @ AP_0013].

• AP_0014 yield_to_nonperceptual_harm, gated on flag(local.harm_is_nonperceptual) — area effects,

collapsing terrain and ground-striking foes still reach her, so bosses keep their teeth

[SRC: T0_Ally_Behavior_Policy @ AP_0014].

Rows she may legally hold that are not ward-derived, both ally_kind any:

• AP_0006 read_counter_class, domain pattern_detection, role_tag ROLE_SINGLE_SUPPORT, gated on

flag(local.enemy_attack_telegraph_visible) [SRC: T0_Ally_Behavior_Policy @ AP_0006]. This is the

correct home for her contribution: reading is what she does, and the intelligence axis buys exactly

pattern detection and awareness [SRC: T1_Integrity_Paths_Worldstates_Master # The Intelligence Axis and Ally Behavior Quality].

Its role_tag matches every CHAR_0002 row, so the join is clean.

• AP_0008 track_arena_state, domain awareness, gated on flag(local.arena_state_changed)

[SRC: T0_Ally_Behavior_Policy @ AP_0008]. ROLE-TAG MISMATCH, stated rather than smoothed: this row

carries role_tag ROLE_GROUP_SUPPORT, while every CHAR_0002 row and AP_0006 carry

ROLE_SINGLE_SUPPORT [SRC: T0_Role_Axis_Registry @ ROLE_GROUP_SUPPORT]. It is listed here as legally

holdable because its verb is pure awareness and requires no act, so nothing in it collides with

HL_0096 or lapses the ward by AP_0013. Whether a ROLE_GROUP_SUPPORT row binds to a single-support

companion at all is a registry question about the role axis and not this document's to answer; it is

finding F-12.

The one canonical capability that has no rowed policy at all, realized here because it is hers and

nothing else in the corpus uses it. Canon gives her a perception her companion sheet has never spent:

"Their perception of NPC behavioral cues is sharper than the protagonist's vril-based intuition in

strictly human social contexts" [SRC: T3_Core_Characters # The Active Companion Activation].

• The social read, proposed. Trigger: a human social encounter with a stake — a negotiation, an

interrogation, a bought official, a host whose welcome is not what it says. Effect: she registers

the tell before the protagonist's vril reading would, and she surfaces it as an observation rather

than as a mechanic, in the aftermath line or the entry. It is legible to the player as her being

right about a person, which is the only kind of being-right she has. This has no policy id today

because the awareness domain rows are all combat-arena-gated; a non-combat social-awareness policy

class is what it would need. Proposal-tier, and part of finding F-12's registry question rather

than an applied claim.

The same capability is what grounds the six_option_register at §3.14: her per-option reaction is not

authorial decoration, it is this documented social read pointed at the protagonist's own choice, and

canon confirms the same faculty is what the Ch-75 inversion encounter runs on — the opposition derives

from "social and behavioural tells (habitual cruelty, tempo, the discounted-verb profile), never

vril-signature or combat frame-data" [SRC: T3_Core_Characters # The Active Companion Activation]. A

faculty that reads the player accurately at Ch 75 is the same faculty reading them at Ch 13; only the

verdict changes.

Rows she must NOT hold, stated as exclusions because an exclusion is the load-bearing half of a

non-combatant's policy set:

• AP_0007 peel, ROLE_GROUP_SUPPORT [SRC: T0_Ally_Behavior_Policy @ AP_0007]. Peeling is an act, and

an act lapses her concealment by AP_0013 while gaining her nothing she is canonically capable of.

• AP_0001 through AP_0005, which are ally_kind familiar and include interpose and

attack_directed [SRC: T0_Ally_Behavior_Policy @ AP_0001] [SRC: T0_Ally_Behavior_Policy @ AP_0003].

Neither verb is hers at any integrity band.

The ward terms above are proposal-tier and offered, not applied, on the chapter's own face, and they

are scoped to the hostile encounter layer's own target selection with no purchase on scripted story

events or player-directed action [SRC: CH_13 # Mechanical anchors]. This document does

not widen that scope by a word.

4.3 Travel and camp behaviors

• Walking order. She trails by a pace or two on open ground, comes level in a market or a village

street, and stops short at a threshold she has not been invited across. Derived from the Ch-13

entry protocol register and from the protected-site framing

[SRC: CH_13 # Protected-chapter combat framing].

• Arrival naming. At a new site she says the place's name in its own people's word before she writes

it. Derived from the §17.1 self-naming requirement carried on the chapter

[SRC: CH_13 # Protected-chapter combat framing] and from the cultural-register half

of the voice doctrine [SRC: NATURAL_VOICE_DOCTRINE # The cultural register].

• Departure copying. She copies one thing before they leave a site, and the choice of thing is

authored per site rather than random. Derived from CH13_B12, where the reading of the dry-stone

construction logic is what the journal takes north [SRC: CH_13 # Beat graph].

• The fire is not hers. She does not build it, gather for it or cook on it; those are the

protagonist's verbs and the party's. Derived from the absence of any trade home, gathering role or

crafting anchor on her in the chapter's mechanical anchors

[SRC: CH_13 # Mechanical anchors].

• The one question at the fire. Once per camp she asks the question the protagonist has stopped

asking, and it is authored per chapter. This is the beat-level hook that keeps her canonical

characterisation live rather than stated once

[SRC: T3_Core_Characters # Identity Parameters].

• The entry before the sleep. The camp does not end until the entry is written, which is the visible

form of the journal being the chapter's quiet centre of gravity

[SRC: CH_13 # Body prose].

4.4 Dialogue register — the natural-voice test applied

The test is the doctrine's own: does a person say this

[SRC: NATURAL_VOICE_DOCTRINE # The voice rule]. Six rules, each checkable against a line.

• The specificity law. If a line could be said about any place, it is not hers. Replace the general

noun with the observed one.

• No exposition, ever. The journal carries lore; her speech carries noticing. A line that explains

the world to the player has been given to the wrong surface

[SRC: T3_Core_Characters # Identity Parameters].

• She does not narrate the protagonist's feelings. She reports what she saw the protagonist do. This

is the same discipline the Band-A marks run on, carried into speech.

• She asks rather than concludes. Her questions are the second question, not the first: the first is

obvious and someone has already asked it.

• Names are people's own. Persons by name, places in their people's word, per the cultural register

rule [SRC: NATURAL_VOICE_DOCTRINE # The cultural register].

• No combat barks. She has no tactical call-outs because she has no tactics

[SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0096]. Her encounter lines are three kinds only: a location line before,

a warning line about something seen, and an aftermath line that is usually a question.

The register at Ch 13 specifically is adolescent-curious, at a literacy appropriate to her Manggarai

context of origin [SRC: T3_Core_Characters # The Journal System]. She is not yet the voice of Ch 57;

the slice must not borrow that voice forward.

4.5 Persona banding across the age progression

Her clock is defined by reference to the protagonist's and never independently

[SRC: T3_Core_Characters # Identity Parameters]. What follows is what changes and what does not.

• Band 13, the join. Adolescent-curious. Short sentences, high specificity, low abstraction. She

states what she saw and asks what it was. Slice-terminal

[SRC: T3_Core_Characters # The Journal System].

• Band 14 to 17. Deepening; the parallel-analytical capability emerges and is revealed at Ch 16, when

she decodes a constrained portion of the Indus script by documented scholarship and not by vril

7.3 The pronoun convention, restated where an author will hit it

The head of this document declares it and this section repeats it, because a register section is

where a person authoring lines from this persona will look. This document says "she" as a

DESIGNER-SIDE READING CONVENIENCE ONLY. Her gender is inherited from the player's Ch-1 best-friend

selection and is not authored [SRC: T3_Core_Characters # Identity Parameters], which her registry row

encodes at voice_signature_notes [SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0002]. Every player-facing surface

derived from this document — runtime context-pack lines, journal strings, dialogue, barks, subtitle

and UI text — is pronoun-free with respect to her. Any consumer of the terse personality block at

§3.8, the register rules at §4.4, or the per-option shapes at §3.14 strips the convention before

authoring a line. The defect class this exists to block is live in canon and already flagged: CH_13's

Decisions block records that the entry's own body prose carries "she" for the healer's child against

its own continuity anchor, and boards the repair as a whole-prose register pass

numeric relational value, authors no journal entry text, and produces no image, plate or geometry.

It does not reopen the pre-join reveal adjudication, the D-23 Manggarai correction, the for-life

model, the Ch-65 non-gating decision or the Evil-band inversion, all of which are ruled. It does not

widen the ward's ally-side terms, which stand exactly as the chapter scopes them.
