Promotion study for the light-ally candidate: modern West Africa, Ch 39. Read-only pass over the corpus;
everything here is a labelled RECOMMENDATION grounded in the spine's staged cast + the real cultural
substrate. Casting and per-companion loyalty assignment are Josh's characterization canon — every cardinal
item is marked [CARDINAL — JOSH]. Citations are [SRC: path # anchor]; CH_39 is in the concurrently-mutating
set, so it is cited by beat-name/section, never by line number (the stable CARDINALS doc quotes its lines).

Tunde is the single strongest body in all 162 Character_Index rows for the one ratified loyalty model that has
zero exemplars — drawn_conditional. His authored Ch-39 turn already *is* the drawn-by-integrity idea made
flesh, and — the finding that changes the cost calculus — a guest arc for him needs no new chapters: it reads
the already-staged Ch 39-42 "carried lightly" window and the already-staged Ch-75 community-reputation payoff AS a
bounded guest arc, adding only a 3-node re-flesh + the loyalty wiring already rowed. That clears the mandate's
"rich meaning / adds value" bar.
But the promotion is genuinely Josh's fork, not mine to force:
This is the recommendation, and it is the only way drawn_conditional gets its exemplar without inventing a
new character.

NOT_A_COMPANION is wrong (he is rowed bonded, community-adjacent, carried across four nodes with a downstream
payoff — more than a texture NPC). FULL_COMPANION is wrong (a permanent Lagos traveller becomes an outsider to
every later culture — the §1.1 dilution PARTY_STRUCTURE warns of; and canon proves only birthright/soul-bonded
bodies cross the Ch-65 endgame lock). GUEST is the load-bearing middle, and it is where drawn_conditional
was always meant to live [SRC: PARTY_STRUCTURE.md # §4, §3 Tier-2].
[CARDINAL — JOSH] The verdict itself (promote to guest vs. hold at light-ally) is a casting call. This document
gives Josh the designed guest arc so he rules on a real design, not a bare fork — per the decision protocol.

Thread-1 modern vril-parallel, the Ouidah python-temple continuity from Ch 12, and the documented biopiracy

is protected: no community combat — the babalawo/Ifa community is never a target (CVD §17.1)

What is THIN (do NOT fake — §17.1: care = weight + authenticity): Tunde's *persona-level interior* has almost
no on-page substrate. In the spine he is one cast line and one fork; he has no authored voice beyond the tag
"caught_between_lagos_register" [SRC: T0_Character_Index # CHAR_0127]. The lived texture a guest companion needs —
a working-class/broker Lagosian's inner life, contemporary Lagos idiom, the specific social world of an NDA'd
knowledge-broker, the class and generational pressures that make a man take that job — is NOT in the corpus. The
RCM sources that would ground it are all "needed," not processed: Falola & Heaton *A History of Nigeria*,
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's essays/fiction, Soyinka's *Myth, Literature and the African World*

is *blocked* on processing those modern-Nigeria sources for his persona interior. His CULTURE frame can be honored
today; his DEPTH cannot be invented — flag it, author it after processing. This is the honest §17.1 gate.

He is a fixer: access, networks, and the read of who-owns-whom. In a megacity biopiracy economy this is the
real skill — the man who knows which certificate is forged, which elder was leaned on, which coalition lawyer will
answer. This is *not* one of the 10 canonical trades (he is not a maker); it is the entity-persona opportunity
mechanism made flesh — a contact who opens routes (the paper trail, the community trust-brokers, the legal wing)

He roots no trade home (Ch 39 roots none [SRC: CH_39 # end-state homes_established]). Where he touches a trade he
is a peer on Trade 9 Inscription, modernized — reading corporate comms, the paper-trail literacy, the legal-
exposure decode that the Ch-39 boss fight already runs (BE_0039 primary verb DECODE, the "inscription-sight on a
corporate surface") [SRC: BOSS_PERSONAS.md # BE_0039 Combat] [SRC: registries/T0_Trade_Registry # TRADE_09]. He
does not gate the trade; he shares its modern lane.
He is an ordinary modern human: no elven birthright, no vril tier. He contributes the *real-physics / social-
engineering* half of the blended-mode system, never vril — and that is a designed complementarity, not a lack. His
Composure-node contribution is stealth + puzzle_routed: access (keycard routes, the guy-in-every-port entry),
comms decode, the paper corner — the exact nodes raw DPS and vril-sight cannot break, composing with Ana's melee
blade and the protagonist's inscription/vril-sight [SRC: COMBAT_ENCOUNTER_SYSTEM.md # Part B §5 Composure sub-nodes]
[SRC: memory vril-altered-physics-real-physics-and-magic]. Vril asymmetry honored: he perceives the theft
through documents and community knowledge — the human register — where the protagonist reads vril-signatures; he

Teaches: the modern extraction grammar (above) — the investigative literacy the whole modern arc runs on. Learns:
from the protagonist's integrity, that a man who was bought can *choose* a side — his growth from instrument to
agent. The teaching is mutual and non-gating.
Not helm/gunner. His station is the fixer/quartermaster — the one who works the ports, the shore contacts, the
landfall networks when the mothership makes harbor. "The man who knows a guy in every port" is a real crew role and

The cost-saving finding: promoting Tunde needs no new chapters. His guest window is the already-staged
"carried lightly Ch 39-42" span, and his recurrence is the already-staged Ch-75 payoff. Promotion = a 3-node
re-flesh (make him a present actor in Ch 40-42, where he is currently only fold-named) + the loyalty wiring already
rowed. This directly challenges the CARDINALS Option-B cost objection ("he'd need beats the coverage map hasn't
budgeted" [SRC: CARDINALS_RATE_AND_ROSTER.md # CARDINAL 2 Option B]): the beats live inside nodes that already
exist and already carry him — a re-flesh, not net-new structure.
FORK_CH39_B (show him what he was part of, give him the way out) [SRC: CH_39 # FORK_CH39_B generative row], with
the player's integrity band aligned to his pole at magnitude ≥60, sustained across two nodes (the ratified DRAWN
rule) [SRC: COMPANION_MECHANICS_CONTRACT.md # §5]. This is *already implemented in the fork*: generative → "Tunde
bought → ally (turned) … +carried modern-WA ally"; corrosive → "Tunde not carried; a local contact spent"

/ community_state axis), i.e. *a contact's payoff channel*, not a traveling companion's BOND return. A guest
Tunde and a light-ally Tunde pay off *the same way* here — which is exactly why the promotion is optional and the
fallback is honest.

1. He is the modern arc's thesis, made a person. The Ch-39 turn's whole point: *the modern enemy runs on
people it has convinced to help it, and every one of them can be un-convinced* [SRC: CARDINALS # CARDINAL 2
context L131-134]. Tunde drawn-in is the living counter-proof to the House's method — **integrity RECRUITS where
the House COERCES.** They buy people; she frees them. Without an embodied Tunde, that thesis has no face.
2. The assimilation-witness resonance is the richest in the cast. He lived concealment-under-duress (the NDA).
He is the one companion who recognizes the protagonist's hide-what-you-are from the *inside* and does not judge
it — until it curdles into extraction, at which point he is the first to leave, because breaking free of exactly
that is who he is. That is a precise cost/buy the mandate asked for: he buys her the least-judgmental witness and
costs her the sharpest conscience [SRC: COMPANION_MECHANICS_CONTRACT.md # §1.1 assimilation_stance].
3. He gives drawn_conditional its only exemplar. The model is ratified and has *zero* live instances; retiring
it quietly discards a model Josh explicitly ruled ("others are DRAWN by your integrity/actions")
[SRC: CARDINALS # CARDINAL 2 strongest objection; PARTY_STRUCTURE.md # §4, §6 flag 3]. Tunde is the right body,
and the whole system has been pointing at him.
4. He fills the modern-arc West-Africa companion-witness gap without violating the region-per-chapter dilution
rule — because a GUEST is bounded, not a permanent globe-spanning traveller [SRC: CAST_INVENTORY.md # GAPS 2;
PARTY_STRUCTURE.md # §1.1].
5. House entanglement: he is the human residue of the House's modern method — the bought local whose existence
indicts the PHARMACEUTICAL vessel. He carries no reveal risk (knows only the firm/concession, never Cassius) —
the reveal discipline is *native* to his awareness_tier, not a constraint fought against.
6. Growth arc: bought-and-NDA'd (bondage) → freed → drawn (chooses her cause) → knowledge-sovereignty advocate
(his own_life pull home). Instrument to agent — the name "the father returns" made literal.
The honest ceiling: all six of these are real, and they still resolve to a *guest*, not a permanent core member
— because his fight is at home and his Ch-75 payoff runs on the reputation axis a contact already uses. That is the
design landing: **GUEST_COMPANION if Josh wants the drawn-by-integrity exemplar authored; LIGHT_ALLY, honestly, if
he does not.** Either is defensible; neither inflates him past what the corpus can bear.
