If this document disagrees with canon, CANON WINS and this document is the defect — fix the
document, never the canon. Nothing here is applied until it is ratified into canon.
Proposal, systems layer, DRAFT. Expands the WS7 §2 minigame/contest framework (docs/proposals/AAA_REARCHITECTURE_PROPOSAL.md) into a shippable AAA system, grounded in the WS1 opportunity matrix (docs/proposals/aaa_ws1_opportunity_matrix.md), the Layer-model-v2 fun mandate (docs/proposals/AAA_REARCHITECTURE_BRIEF.md), and the significance-relevance filter (docs/proposals/SIGNIFICANCE_LENSES.md). Invents no locked canon: chapter/numerical/naming/hard-line/§17 stay Josh's. Every game named below is a real documented tradition of its culture (Frame-A) unless it is an explicitly original arcade pastiche; every placement is a beat inside the locked 79 nodes.

1. Vision
Humanity already crosses 69+ of the most game-playing cultures the world ever produced — cultures that invented Go, Senet, the Mesoamerican ballgame, Naadam, the Olympics, mancala, polo, the labyrinth. The built spine reads those games as lore. This system turns them into a second progression that runs parallel to the whole arc: a galaxy of playable games, from a whip-duel in a Manggarai ring to a ballgame against the Lords of Death, unified by one scoring spine and one anti-litter quality bar, culminating in the completionist's flex — *Gold on every game the world ever built, and a god beaten at their own.*
Three promises, one system:
"If it looks like you can play it, you probably can." (Josh) The world is dense with playable objects — and every one that clears the bar is a real, scored, rewarding game, not set dressing.
You learn a culture by playing its game — the L1.5 immersion mandate delivered as *doing*, not reading. You know how the Manggarai settle honour because you took a whip across the shoulder; you know Persian court life because you played chovgan from the saddle.
The world's real games become the endgame's real bosses. The Xibalba ballgame is not flavour before the fight — it *is* the fight. The Sampo is won by contest. Death plays you for passage at a Duat gate. Boss-as-game is the system's novel, addictive core.
The galaxy is deliberately not littered. A hard five-gate quality bar (§6) means every game earns its slot via significance + fun + a reward hook. Fewer, better, each one worth a Gold run.

2. The design & the loop
2.1 The four-tier taxonomy
Every game in the galaxy is exactly one tier. Tier sets ambition, authoring cost, and how it wires.
Tier M — Marquee contest. The culture-defining game, staged as a story set-piece on first play, often fused to a boss or a situation mini-arc. One (rarely two) per contest-defining culture. Examples: Olympia pankration (Ch 23), the Colosseum (Ch 28), Naadam's three games (Ch 22/32), the Xibalba ballgame *as a boss* (Ch 71), the Sampo contest *as a boss* (Ch 67→Realm Road), the Rapa Nui Birdman climb-and-swim (Ch 63), the caci duel debut (Ch 3), the Kalaripayattu school-ladder (Ch 7). Wires to Boss_Encounter and/or the situation/era-rhyme registry.
Tier S — Structured game. A real bounded ruleset with genuine depth and a repeatable free-play high-score mode. The completionist backbone. Examples: Go/weiqi (Ch 21), Senet (Ch 15), mancala/bao (Ch 8/12), nard/backgammon (Ch 19), patolli (Ch 47), Harappan dice (Ch 16), xiangqi, shagai (Ch 22), star-path wayfinding (Ch 8), the Hurrian Hymn reconstruction (Ch 25).
Tier A — Ambient parlor / dexterity. Light, quick, low-stakes texture; the "if it looks playable, it is" density layer; pure L1.5 immersion. Examples: tavern knucklebones, cup-and-ball, coin-pitch, drinking-song call-and-response, a throat-singing echo round, a market-haggle rhythm beat, a fishing-catch timing tap. Low authoring cost, high density, small rewards.
Tier E — Easter-egg arcade. The hidden retro-cabinet room (§2.6) and scattered "surprise, it's playable" micro-finds for explorers. Original pastiche games starring the game's own bestiary and threads — high-score board + achievements. The explorer's reward layer.
Rule of thumb on mix across the arc: a handful of M, a backbone of S, a generous scatter of A, and one arcade E aggregator plus a few hidden E finds. The bar (§6), not a quota, sets the count — but a target shape keeps the galaxy legible: think dozens, not hundreds, and each defensible.
One scoring model across all four tiers, so "top score on every minigame" has a single testable definition (the Layer-2 completion condition, brief §L2).
Every game defines a score and three thresholds: Bronze (completed / competent), Silver (skilled), Gold (mastered). Gold is demanding but human-achievable by design.
A hidden Platinum "ghost" sits above Gold on every Tier-M and Tier-S game: beat a pre-recorded developer/AI ghost run (or a perfect-clear). Platinum is the streaming-worthy ceiling; it is *not* required for L2 completion — Gold is the floor, Platinum is the flex.
Medals persist and drive a global meta-progression (§2.4). Bronze on a game is worth a durable reward; Silver and Gold escalate it (§2.3).
Tier-A parlor games use a compressed model (single "win / clean-win" plus a small streak achievement) so they stay light.
2.3 The reward hook (why any of this pays)
No game enters the galaxy without a durable reward on the medal ladder (Gate 3, §6). Reward classes, drawn from existing canon so nothing new is minted:
Kit — a weapon flourish, an ability-synergy unlock, a familiar toy, a trade-recipe (never a numerical-canon ability/weapon; a flavour/synergy layer over the locked roster).
Trade XP / mastery-tier progress — sparring ladders feed the martial school (SCH); a dye/forge craft-minigame feeds the trade's mastery clock.
Familiar / breeding hooks — Naadam horse-race feeds the bred-mount line; the golden-eagle hunt feeds the taming line; a game may drop a bond-token.
Lore / Grimoire deposits (L2/L3) — a win unlocks a cross-cultural link fragment ("this board is Senet's cousin"), feeding the Pillar-5 lattice.
Cosmetic / base-building trophies — medals become displayable trophies in the Personal Dimension base (the streaming-worthy shelf; §2.6).
Integrity-neutral by default — wagers stake *coin or standing*, never a person, never a sacred object as prize; the game's reward respects §17.1 (§6 Gate 5).
2.4 The completionist chase — "Games Master"
The L2 spine Josh named ("top score on every built-in minigame") becomes a real, named meta-progression:
Collect Gold on every Tier-M and Tier-S game → the Games Master completion state (the testable L2 floor).
Milestone rewards along the way: Bronze-count unlocks the arcade room; Silver-count unlocks a Grand Tournament gauntlet (a curated boss-rush of the marquee contests); Gold-count unlocks the trophy shelf and a title/cosmetic.
Platinum ghosts and a local leaderboard are the ceiling above completion — the Reddit/streaming flex ("beat the dev on every game"), aligned to the brief's "Reddit-and-streaming-worthy" L2 language.
Composes with base-building: the Personal Dimension aggregates medals as a physical arcade/trophy hall whose contents differ per player.
2.5 The boss-as-game fusion (the novel core)
The system's signature: a marquee contest whose ruleset IS the boss fight. You do not deplete an HP bar; you out-play the game, then (where the myth demands) out-trick it.
The fusion pattern (a formal rule so the cascade applies it consistently):
Trigger: the opponent is an antagonist or mythic being, the loss carries real consequence, and the culture's own myth stages the encounter *as a game*.
Wiring: the MG_ row cross-links a BE_ (Boss_Encounter) row; the boss's engagement_modes_objectis the game ruleset; the primary_verb is outplay (a distinct win-verb satisfying Pillar-11 mode-variety and Pillar-3 action mandate); phases escalate the ruleset (rigged rules, sudden-death rounds, a trick-turn).
Adaptive opponent: the ratified strategy-token generative layer (RUNTIME_GENERATIVE_LAYER) drives a Nemesis-grade opponent — the Xibalba court *remembers your plays across rounds and returns*; Louhi adapts her forge-counters to your Sampo strategy. Deterministic-first, canon-graph-guardrailed, authored fallback (100% correct model-off) — no new engine, an existing one pointed at the game state.
Canonical fusion set (proposal-grade; placement forks to Josh):
Xibalba ballgame (Ch 71 Realm Road) — Hun-Came & Vucub-Came; win the rigged ballgame as a skill-contest, then the sacrifice-and-revival trick (out-play → out-trick). The flagship.
The Sampo contest (Ch 67→Realm Road, Pohjola) — Louhi; the rift-crossing/forge contest fought as the Kalevala fights it.
Senet vs. Death (a Duat gate) — the Book of the Dead literally depicts the dead playing Senet against an unseen opponent for passage; a board-game boss at a judgment gate.
Candidate: a flyting duel (Ch 24 Norse) as a verbal-contest boss that era-rhymes to a modern battle.
2.6 The easter-egg arcade (Tier E)
Josh's hidden retro ARCADE ROOM, designed with teeth:
The room — a hidden, unlockable space (recommend: a nook inside the Personal Dimension / Crown Dimension Pocket base, so it is always-accessible and aggregates the whole galaxy's high scores; plus a diegetic in-world arcade find in the natural place — modern-arc, Ch 60 Japan / Tokyo being the obvious home). Explorers find it; it is not on the critical path.
The cabinets — original pastiche games, never clones of real arcade IP (copyright firewall, §7). Each cabinet is a lore-joke: an 8-bit familiar-runner starring the raven; a wave-defense where you are a vril-site holding off Velheim intrusions (reveal-safe — no pattern named); a "descent" platformer riffing the Realm Road. The cabinets *reward the player for knowing the game's own world*.
High scores + achievements — a persistent local leaderboard and an achievement set, feeding Games Master milestones.
The density promise — beyond the room, a scatter of surprise-playable micro-finds across the world (a child's game in an alley, a dice cup on a tavern table) delivers "if it looks playable, it is" — each still gated (§6), never zero-value litter.
2.7 Reusable engine families (how this ships at AAA quality — see Alt A, §3)
The galaxy is built from ~6 reusable game-engine archetypes, each reskinned per culture, plus a few bespoke marquees. This is how ~dozens of games ship without dozens of one-off systems, and it makes the L3 "same game, different face" lattice legible:
1. Board-of-fate engine — race/capture on a track (Senet ↔ Patolli ↔ Royal Game of Ur ↔ nard) → generates the "games of fate" Pillar-5 link family.
Divination micro-mechanics (Ifa 256-Odu, I Ching, rune-casting, extispicy) route through a shared oracle micro-engine as *non-blocking* branch-flavour rather than scored games (they are superstition-as-mechanic per WS1, not high-score contests) — flagged so they do not inflate the Games Master count.
2.8 The moment-to-moment loop
Discover (an object glints as playable) → learn-by-doing (first play is taught in-fiction, often a story beat) → score against Bronze/Silver/Gold → collect a reward + a lore fragment → optionally chase Silver/Gold/Platinum in free-play → medals feed Games Master → the marquee ones fuse into the boss you were being trained for the whole time. The parallel progression rides *alongside* the main quest and never gates it (non-blocking, per the entity-persona no-dead-end doctrine).
---
3. Alternatives considered (the genuine forks)
Alt A — Bespoke per-game systems vs. reusable engine families. *Bespoke* maximizes fidelity (every game hand-tuned) but cannot ship dozens at AAA polish and buries the L3 "same game across cultures" insight. *Engine families* (§2.7) reskin ~6 archetypes, ship affordably, and *surface* the lattice as a feature. REC: engine families + a few bespoke marquees. The marquees (Xibalba, Sampo, Olympia) earn bespoke depth; the backbone reuses engines. This is the single most important shipping decision.
Alt B — Completion definition: Gold-floor vs. leaderboard-relative vs. dev-ghost. *Gold-on-every-game* is testable, achievable, and a clean L2 floor. *Leaderboard-relative* ("top 10%") is unstable single-player. *Dev-ghost on every game* is the hardest and most streaming-worthy but too punishing as a completion *requirement*. REC: Gold = the L2 completion floor (Games Master); Platinum dev-ghost = the optional flex ceiling. Both, layered — not either/or.
Alt C — Arcade placement: Personal Dimension hub vs. diegetic modern find vs. both. *Personal-Dimension* makes it always-accessible and the natural medal-aggregator but is meta (astral pocket, not the world). *Diegetic* (Ch 60 Tokyo) is grounded but reachable only once. REC: both — the Personal-Dimension room is the aggregator/hub; a diegetic Tokyo arcade is the in-world discovery that unlocks/mirrors it. Grounds the meta-space in a real place.
Alt D — Are divination systems minigames? *As scored games* they inflate the count and mis-frame superstition-as-mechanic (WS1 treats Ifa/I-Ching as non-blocking branch-oracles, not contests). *As a separate oracle micro-engine* they stay true to their sources. REC: oracle micro-engine, excluded from the Games Master count (§2.7).
---
4. Canon composition & firewalls
Familiars / breeding — Naadam horse-race + the Kazakh golden-eagle hunt feed the taming/breeding L1 line; a game may drop a bond-token or breeding-prestige hook. Never awards a legendary or a 22-slot occupant (HL_0057/0058). Cross-links T0_Familiar_Registry / T0_Creature_Roster.
Trades / schools — sparring ladders (Kalaripayattu, pankration) feed T0_School_Registry (SCH) mastery; craft-minigames (Tyrian-purple murex dye Ch 18, wootz forge Ch 7) feed the trade's mastery clock. No 11th trade, no new home-base (HL_0033); games hang off the existing 10-trade ladder.
Vril / combat — boss-as-game satisfies Pillar 3 (action-packed, incl. protected chapters via the environmental/contest resolution) and Pillar 11 (mode variety) by introducing outplay as a distinct win-verb, honouring win-verb-variety (brief AAA move #6). Wires to T0_Boss_Encounter_Registry.
Integrity paths / the 3 endings — wagers stake coin or standing, never a person or a sacred object; the arena/gladiator marquee (Ch 28) is framed as coercion the player fights *out of*, never blood-sport glorification (per WS6). A game's outcome may feed the relationship ledger (win a village's respect) but never gates progression (multi-path, no-dead-end doctrine).
Generative-entity layer — the strategy-token runtime drives Nemesis-grade adaptive opponents for marquees (§2.5); deterministic-first, canon-graph-guardrailed, authored fallback. No new engine.
Significance lenses — the quality gate (§6) is a specialization of the SIGNIFICANCE_LENSES five-gate filter; every game registers under a lens (Games & contests sits across E1 performance, D-politics prove-standing, arc-lens G-progression) and clears the relevance filter.
Reveal ladder — no game or arcade cabinet leaks the Velheim pattern before Ch 38 / the thesis before Ch 76; modern-arc boss-as-game opponents stay the "unnamed organized hand"; arcade pastiche encodes no Grand-Sage/thesis spoiler.
Numerical canon untouched — the MG galaxy adds *no* ability/weapon/species/familiar/trade/mastery numbers (72/33/22/10/185/12 all intact); a minigame reward is a flavour/synergy layer over the locked rosters, never a new locked entry.

5. The MG_ registry (proposed shape)
New registry T0_Minigame_Registry, live layer registries/T0_Minigame_Registry/Sheet1.csv, matching the harness CSV conventions (one flat sheet, *_object for structured blobs, semicolon-joined multi-values, a sources column). Existence + any count/caps are Josh's (D-SYS); columns are proposed.

5.1 Seed roster (from the WS1 matrix — illustrative, not exhaustive; counts are Josh's)
6. The quality gate (the anti-litter bar) — five gates
A specialization of the SIGNIFICANCE_LENSES filter. A candidate game enters the galaxy (gets an MG_ row) only if it clears all five; otherwise it is cut or demoted to pure un-scored flavour.
Gate 1 — Significance. The game is documented to this culture (Frame-A) and registers under a significance lens with real substance — OR it is an arcade original that serves the game's own lore. No name-drop games.
Gate 2 — Fun-verb distinctness. It adds a play-verb the chapter/nearby arc does not already have (no duplicate ruleset within a variety-window; the engine-family reskin must feel different, per Pillar-11 mode variety). A second identical board game two chapters apart is cut or demoted to ambient.
Gate 3 — Reward hook. It carries a bronze/silver/gold ladder AND at least one durable reward (§2.3). A game with no reason to master it is cut.
Gate 4 — Layer/tier fit. It slots cleanly into one tier (M/S/A/E) and its primary layer (L1 fun / L1.5 immersion / L2 completion) without forcing the others.
Gate 5 — Care + reveal + copyright. Frame-A and §17.1: no sacred rite instrumentalized as a contest (Naadam is the *secular* games, not the boo/shaman rite; the Dreaming and the joik are hard-lined — no contest touches them); protected songs/art referenced never reproduced; wagers never stake a person or sacred object; no gambling economy in the Ch 33–35 slave-trade waters; arcade cabinets are original, never clones of real arcade IP; no reveal-ladder leak.
One-line procedure: *for each candidate game, require Gates 1, 3, 4, 5 to pass and Gate 2 to add a distinct verb; keep survivors, tier them, cut or demote the rest — fewer, better, each one worth a Gold run.*

7. Opus-now vs. Josh-ruling vs. Fable-5
Opus can spec + wire now
The four-tier taxonomy, the five-gate quality bar, the bronze/silver/gold + platinum-ghost scoring spine, the reward-class list, the Games Master completion meta, the ~6 reusable engine families, the boss-as-game fusion pattern + MG↔BE cross-link rule, the arcade design + copyright firewall, the proposed MG_ registry schema, the WS1-derived seed roster mapped to chapters, and the wiring spec into /spine-chapter (a build step that scores candidate games through the gate and emits MG_ rows) + the significance-lens filter + Boss_Encounter. Add the DOC_MAP entry.
Needs Josh's ruling (canon/numerical/§17 forks)
Registry existence + any count/caps — does the galaxy get a canonical count (like 72 weapons / 33 species), or is it open-ended and bar-gated? (REC: bar-gated, no fixed count; ~dozens.)
The L2 completion condition as canon — ratify "Gold on every Tier-M/Tier-S game = Games Master" as the official completionist definition (brief L2 names it; this makes it testable).
The arcade room as canon + its home — Personal Dimension hub + Ch 60 diegetic find (REC Alt C, both).
Boss-as-game vs. the boss roster/counts — do fused game-bosses count as bosses in any per-chapter/total boss numerics? (REC: yes, they are bosses with primary_verb: outplay.)
Senet-vs-Death placement — a Ch 15 Duat-gate taste vs. the Realm-Road Duat terminus (or both). (REC: a Ch 15 taste that pays off at the Realm-Road Duat.)
Wager/economy confirm — confirm coin/standing wagers are allowed and re-affirm the slave-trade-waters no-economy firewall (already flagged in WS7 D-SYS).
Fable-5 handoff (targeted)
Tune every score curve + bronze/silver/gold + platinum-ghost thresholds per game to a consistent difficulty philosophy (Gold demanding-but-human, Platinum a real ghost run).
Design the arcade-cabinet original games (rules + pixel-art + the lore-jokes) — reveal-safe, copyright-clean pastiche.
Author the marquee opponent strategy-token profiles (Nemesis behaviours: the Xibalba court's cross-round memory, Louhi's forge-counters) against RUNTIME_GENERATIVE_LAYER.
Write the first-play story integrations as final spine prose during the re-cascade (caci debut, the Senet-vs-Death scene, the Sampo/Xibalba fusions).
Produce the Hurrian Hymn / performance-minigame audio via the music pipeline — composer-in-loop for the hero reconstruction, local ACE-Step/YuE for supporting cues (original reconstruction, protected-content clean).
Populate the full MG_ registry across all 79 chapters via the re-cascade, each row gate-scored.
---
8. The AAA hook
The world's real games are a second game — and the last one is a god. You spend 77 chapters learning humanity's actual games by *playing* them, chasing Gold on a board the Egyptians buried with their dead and a whip-duel the Manggarai still fight — and every marquee you master was secretly training you, because at the road home the Lords of Death sit you down at the ballgame and the only way past is to out-play them, then out-trick them, on an adaptive court that remembers every move you have ever made. Plus a hidden arcade full of 8-bit versions of your own monsters, and a Gold-on-everything flex worth streaming.
