CANON SUBORDINATION — this document is PROPOSAL-TIER: it serves canon and never outranks it.
The canon: the CVD · the T1 foundation docs · the T0 registries (registries/) · the spine
(docs/spine/CH_*.md) · the region pages (_source/02_Tier_2_Region_Pages/). Authority order:docs/DOC_MAP.md§ 0.
Canon served (scanned from this document's own citations — widen it by hand where it is thin):
CVD §6·CVD §17·T1_Combat_System_Spec·T1_World_Geography_Master·T0_Chapter_Index·T0_Hard_Lines·T0_Weapon_Registry
READ THAT CANON FIRST — open it and derive from it before you build anything from this document.
If this document disagrees with canon, CANON WINS and this document is the defect — fix the
document, never the canon. Nothing here is applied until it is ratified into canon.
Status: PROPOSAL v0.1 (recommendations + reasoning + options; no canon applied). Read-only deep-dive.
Author pass: cultural-fit + progression review of the whole 72-weapon roster, not only the 4 undefined slots.
Method: canon + tier + vision deep-dive, grounded in documented material culture, filtered adversarially against the Care Doctrine (CVD §17.1) and Frame A (real history / material culture, respect the living, no fringe or racist framing).
Sources read: T1_Combat_System_Spec [ACTIVE v1.0] §5-6, §9, §11; T0_Weapon_Registry [DRAFT v0.1] (72 rows); T0_Chapter_Index [ACTIVE v1.2] (79 nodes, region/era per chapter); T1_World_Geography_Master [ACTIVE v2.3] (per-chapter material-culture keys, incl. the three legendary-weapon anchor notes at Ch 29/47/57); T0_Hard_Lines HL_0056 / HL_0074; the Tier 6 Weapons_Detailed docs (confirmed empty stubs — per-weapon cultural anchoring is genuinely unassigned, so this proposal is the foundational map).
Do-not-invent reminder: the immutable 72 total and the 36 Brute / 36 Trickery split are hard canon (HL_0074, CVD §17.12). Every recommendation below preserves 36 / 36 / 72. Chapter assignment, naming, numerical, and hard-line calls are Josh's — the items that touch those are flagged [DECISION NEEDED - JOSH]. Everything else is a grounded recommendation Josh can confirm.
---
---
These four are also the four regional legendary-weapon anchors named in T1_World_Geography (Ch 29 "reindeer-horn weapon Trickery-side legendary anchor," Ch 47 "Mesoamerica Brute-side legendary weapon anchor," Ch 57 "Trade 8 Engineering Australia Trickery-side legendary weapon anchor"), so each choice carries a legendary quest and a Proficiency-99 legendary form on top of being a normal acquirable weapon.
Registry already pins acquisition to CH_09; spine CH_09 places acquisition at Ch 9. Ch 9 is the combat-bearing chapter of the pair (scriptorium heist, 1937 stele-looting apparatus, poachers); Ch 10 Rift Valley is the environmental-boss / damage-impossible chapter, so Ch 9 is the correct acquisition beat.
Reasoning: the shotel is the rare choice that is simultaneously the most iconic, the most class-correct, and mechanically novel (shield-bypass). It is the clear pick.
Registry leaves acquisition blank ("Ch 47-48 range unpinned"); T1_World_Geography names the anchor at Ch 47 (the Quetzalcoatl-synthesis chapter, Aztec/Mexica heartland). Recommend pinning acquisition to CH_47.
Reasoning: the macuahuitl is to Mesoamerica what the katana is to Japan — the instantly-legible cultural weapon. It is the only defensible primary choice.
High-care (CVD §6 / §17.1). T1_World_Geography Ch 29 confirms the canon descriptor "Reindeer-horn weapon Trickery-side legendary anchor," and names the protected material that must NOT be reproduced or weaponized: the noaidi drum (goavddis), the joik (referenced as form, never composed), and the sieidi sacred sites. The weapon must therefore be secular reindeer-antler material culture — the everyday craft object, not the sacred.
[DECISION NEEDED - JOSH]: the canon descriptor "reindeer-horn precision" is satisfied by all three, but "precision" slightly favors a ranged/finesse read (Option B) while the most iconic, most clearly-secular, most mechanically-distinct object is the antler knife (Option A). Recommend A; confirm the intended form. This is a high-care naming/identity call.
Maximum care. Ch 57 is the most protected chapter in the game (HL_0050 relief chapter; HL_0106 no antagonist family, no combat against the community; AIATSIS-protocol compliance; no songline-imitating content). T1_World_Geography names the anchor precisely: "Trade 8 Engineering Australia Trickery-side legendary weapon anchor." Two hard constraints shape the pick: (1) the Boomerang is already a defined weapon (WPN_052), so the slot must be a distinct Aboriginal weapon, not a second boomerang; (2) the object must be everyday, broadly-documented, non-restricted material culture, never a sacred or clan-restricted item.
Care handling for whichever form Josh confirms: composite-by-nation framing per CVD §6 (no single-community pinning, per the Ch 57 coordinate note); AIATSIS-protocol governs any visual/mesh design; the weapon is presented as living, practical technology of the world's oldest continuous culture, with no Dreaming/songline content, no sacred designs, and no restricted knowledge attached. Primary-source corpus per the geography doc: Clarkson 2017, Stanner, Rose, Gammage, Pascoe.
[DECISION NEEDED - JOSH]: confirm the woomera as the Ch 57 weapon, and confirm the composite-framing / AIATSIS handling. This is the highest-care call in the roster.
---
The combat spec states "Canonical 36-Brute roster across 9 group categories" and "36-Trickery/Sorcery roster across 10 group categories," but the enumerations list only 8 Brute groups (FIST, SHORT BLADES, LONG BLADES, BLUNT, THROWN, RANGE, LONG RANGE, OFF-HAND = 34 documented) and 9 Trickery groups (FIST, BLADES, BLUNT, THROWN, RANGE, LONG RANGE, MAGIC, SOUND, OFF-HAND = 34 documented). Each stated count is exactly one higher than what is enumerated. The four to-add weapons bring 34 to 36 in each class but do not, on their own, form a coherent new group (the Brute pair Shotel + Macuahuitl share no natural form; the Trickery pair antler-knife + woomera share no natural form).
Two clean resolutions:
Reasoning: Resolution A is lowest-risk, doctrine-aligned, and fully preserves 72/36/36. Resolution B buys one philosophically-tidy extra Brute category at the cost of re-bucketing and an asymmetry with Trickery. Recommend A; offer B if Josh specifically wants the Curved Blades category.
[DECISION NEEDED - JOSH]: group count is taxonomy, not one of the immutable canonical numbers (72 total and 36/36 are the hard lines, and both resolutions preserve them), so this is a "confirm the recommendation" call rather than an open numerical lock. Flagging it only because it edits an ACTIVE T1 spec line.
---
Recommendation: standardize on WPN_ and correct the single spec line WP_NNN to WPN_NNN. Rationale: WPN_ is already the live-layer truth in 72 rows; WPN_ is more readable and consistent with the repo's other 3-4-letter IDs (CHAR_, BE_); and the FK target for the Chapter_Index weapons_available_in_chapter column (still all POPULATE placeholders, so no live FK to break) should be WPN_. Editing the _source T1 spec line is gate-safe per CLAUDE.md; renumbering 72 registry IDs is not. Low-risk, one-line fix.

The Tier 6 detail docs are empty, so none of the 68 has a cultural anchor or acquisition chapter yet. The tables below assign each a documented real-world cultural instance, its best-fit chapter/region, and a recommended acquisition chapter. Most of the 68 are universal weapon-forms; the value here is naming the specific documented instance per region and sequencing acquisition into a progression. Entries flagged (!) are genuine problems addressed in §6. Acquisition chapters are recommendations; final pacing is owned by Tier 2 ChapterDesign.
Reading the tables: "Cultural instance" = the real documented weapon this roster slot represents in its home region; "Anchor Ch" = best-fit region/chapter; "Acq" = recommended first-acquisition chapter (a weapon can recur as other cultural instances in later chapters).

Katana (WPN_010), Nunchuks (WPN_045), and Shuriken (WPN_050) are specifically Japanese/Okinawan, but the 79-node roster has no Japan or Okinawa chapter (verified: zero Japan/Okinawa/samurai references in the Chapter_Index; Ch 21 China and Ch 60 Asia Revisit are the only East-Asian homes). This is the roster's single largest cultural-coverage gap. Options, in increasing disruption:
Recommendation: A for Nunchuks and Shuriken (authentic, zero-disruption); B for Katana (keep it, anchor as a Ch 60 collector piece). Renaming Katana or swapping any of the three is a naming/identity call reserved for Josh.
Two elevated-care historical chapters carry period firearms in their fiction — Ch 9 Ethiopia (Italian-fascist 1936-41 layer) and Ch 11 Congo (Belgian Free State) — yet the combat spec unlocks player firearms only "Ch 39 onward." Recommended reconciliation: period firearms appear as antagonist/NPC arms in the colonial-layer chapters (part of the documented historical record), while the player's own firearm proficiency and acquisition unlock in the modern arc (Ch 39+). This preserves the spec's firearm-onset rule without erasing the historical setting. Owned by Tier 2, flagged here for consistency.
---
The four to-add weapons and the locked artifacts give fixed points; the rest sequence into a child-to-warrior progression. Final pacing is Tier 2's; this is the recommended spine.
---
Nothing in this proposal changes the immutable canonical numbers: 72 weapons, 36 Brute + 36 Trickery, remain exact under every recommendation. The only counts that move are the two group-summary labels in the spec, which are taxonomy and are recommended to be brought into line with the enumerations.
