Layer-2 Inter-Chapter Transition — the origin lead-in (Prologue to Ch 1)
Story Spine Layer-2 add-on: the origin lead-in seam. This realizes docs/TRANSITION_TREATMENT.md Layer 2 for the one boundary the traveled-through-line files do not cover — the within-realm, pre-fall passage from the Prologue (playable as the Elven King, the realm at its ceiling) into Ch 1 (playable as the Child), before the mortal-world journey begins. It is held separate from the Ch 2 to Ch 21 traveled through-line because it carries no mortal-world travel (the passage is generational and of viewpoint, inside the one realm) and because it is the strictest reveal hold in the whole arc. It precedes the Ch 1 to Ch 2 rift-fall seam (the arc's one dimensional passage, authored in docs/spine/transitions/TRANSITIONS_CH02_21.md).
What this document is and is not
It is the single origin-boundary seam: how the playable POV descends from the sovereign King to the newborn heir grown into a child, within the fairy realm at its ceiling. It realizes against the Prologue's End-state carry-forward (the departure) and Ch 1's Continuity anchor (the arrival).
It is not a chapter, not travel, and not a reveal. Nothing of the thesis, the Grand Sage, or any antagonist exists on any surface here (absolute pre-reveal); the seeds it carries reframe only in hindsight. It is indexed in docs/DOC_MAP.md.
Governing constraints
Within-realm and pre-fall: no travel medium and no mortal world — the fairy realm at full vril saturation, the King sovereign at the height of his reign, the first rift sealed and the further tears of the service arc closed and the membrane whole. The passage is not spatial [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_PROLOGUE].
The departure side now carries a LOSS, and the seam must hold both halves of it at once (the amended Prologue): the plenitude is REAL and undiminished — nothing here is scarce, nothing decays, no one ages, the realm is safe and the child is home — and one thing has been taken out of it that the fullness cannot give back, in a place where nothing is ever taken. Neither half may be allowed to swallow the other. A seam that reads as mourning would cost the realm its status as the thing worth returning to; a seam that reads as untouched would make the arc's engine a lie [SRC: AMULET_PROVENANCE_BRIEF # 4.3].
THE ACCIDENT-NOT-OMEN RULE (Josh's own term at the seventh sitting — "no author, no target"; the sharpest hazard this seam carries, written down here because this is the one document that spans both ruptures): the Prologue ends with a loss and Ch 1 ends with a fall, and NEITHER is the other's cause, consequence, punishment or foreshadow. The surviving core is that neither rupture has an AUTHOR — no targeting, no intent, no recurrence framing, and nothing on any surface that invites the question of who sent it. The catastrophe that takes the mother is unauthored; so is the rupture that takes the child, which opens in the woods at the end of the familiar's keep-away chase and swallows child, familiar and ward together. The two events are ALLOWED to rhyme: they are the realm's own physics doing what it does, and a rhyme between two events of one physics is lawful and means nothing beyond itself. What stays forbidden is the authored reading, because a hand read behind either rupture leaks an antagonist roughly thirty-eight chapters ahead of its sanctioned reveal. The child may come to feel responsible and some of the realm's people may come to believe it; the narration agrees with neither, ever, and no line of this seam may put its thumb on that scale. Absolute pre-reveal (the strictest hold in the arc): nothing of the ultimate thesis, the Grand Sage, or any antagonist may surface or be hinted; the Elven King is name-forbidden (HL_0099) and his ten-thousand-year knowledge stays serene silence (HL_0116); the best friend and the Child Familiar carry zero forward valence; the rift-fall to come has no author, no omen, no curve of dread [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0116].
Two-clock age (D-06): the Childhood age-stage spans the Prologue through Ch 13, but the playable-child POV and the human-cadence integrity clock begin at Ch 1; the Prologue's playable character is the King [SRC: T3_Core_Characters # 2.3].
Seam entries
Prologue to Ch 1 — the King's ceiling to the Child (within-realm, pre-fall; the POV descent)
Departure. The Prologue closes with the realm at its ceiling and whole — full vril saturation, the King sovereign at the height of his reign, the first rift sealed and the further tears of the service arc closed, the town kept, the plain flowering on as though nothing had ever threatened it — and with one thing gone out of it. The chapter's last image is the King carrying the heir back out into the sourceless light with no part of him that adds any of it up and sets it against the child, then or ever; the mother is dead, in an unauthored rupture a kingdom's width from where he was standing, and the small ward that was hers is at the child's throat. The playable character through all of it is the Elven King (Sovereign Projection, Rift Sealing, Temporal Sight, Familiar Communion), name-forbidden, his deepest counsel kept in silence [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_PROLOGUE] [SRC: DECISIONS_PENDING_JOSH # RULED 2026-07-27 (third sitting)].
Passage. No travel and no spatial move — the passage is generational and of viewpoint, inside the one realm: the deathless light holding its flowering without season while a fairy childhood grows up beneath the ceiling, and the crown's vast register giving way to a child's-eye scale, the sovereign POV descending to the small new life that will carry the whole road ahead. What the years do NOT do is mark the loss. There is no anniversary in a place with no seasons and no memorial architecture in a place that has never needed any; the household is simply one person smaller for as long as the child can remember, which is to say for the whole of the child's life. The ward crosses the passage the way anything worn since birth crosses it — simply always there, never remarked on, never explained [SRC: T3_Core_Characters # 2.1].
Arrival. Ch 1 opens on the same realm at its ceiling, now seen small: the child, the King's heir, an elf, grown into the abundance as the playable POV — no longer the King but the Child, who holds none of the ceiling yet — with the four choosings ahead (the Child Familiar drawn from the twelve royal-communion species, the best friend, appearance and gender presentation, the name) and the integrity clock initialized at zero. Two things arrive with the child and belong to Ch 1 to carry: the ward, worn and unremarked and unexplained; and an absence the child has never known the realm without, which is the only kind of absence a person can be born into. The childhood is still good and is still allowed to be only that — it has a grain running through it, and a grain is not a shadow [SRC: T3_Core_Characters # 2.2].
Transition sequence. A descent-of-viewpoint sequence: the same luminous kingdom the King held whole, now met at the height of a child — a paradise not of rest but of capacity, where everything can do the thing it was made to do, all the way — the ceiling become the air the child breathes rather than a power the child wields. The abundance the whole long road ahead will be spent trying to return to is here, entire and unironised, and it is not staged as fragile or as borrowed time: the realm is not waiting for something. The one thing the sequence must carry across is that the fullness and the missing person are both simply true at once, the way they are in any real life, with neither presented as the meaning of the other.
Continuity. Internal age enters the Childhood stage here (designer-only, D-06); integrity zero; the child an elf and the King's heir (species is canon, not a selection); the twelve familiar species the pool the Child Familiar is drawn from; the realm at its ceiling the birthright the child is born into and does not yet hold. Carried from the amended Prologue: the mother DEAD (by relation only, never named — the HL_0099 discipline inherited from the King) and the small concealment ward WORN by the child (a worn thing and not inventory; unnamed, uninscribed and unidentified, per HL_0095), with the King's never-resentment binding on every scene he appears in. Absolute pre-reveal — nothing of the thesis, the Grand Sage, or any antagonist; the best friend and the Child Familiar carry no forward valence; the King's ten-thousand-year knowledge stays serene silence; and both ruptures, the one behind and the one ahead, stay authorless and unpatterned — no targeting, no intent, no recurrence framing — per the accident-not-omen rule above [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0116] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0099].
Consistency note (Layer-2 landed)
The seam is state-consistent between the Prologue End-state carry-forward and the Ch 1 Continuity anchor (the realm at its ceiling, the POV shifting King-to-Child, integrity zero, the Childhood clock beginning, the twelve as the selection pool), reveal-disciplined at the strictest hold in the arc (absolute pre-reveal; the King name-forbidden; the seeds carry no forward valence), and it hands off to the Ch 1 to Ch 2 rift-fall seam in TRANSITIONS_CH02_21.md (the arc's one dimensional passage). With this landed, every one of the 78 spine seams (Prologue through Epilogue) is an authored five-part entry.
RE-AUTHORED 2026-07-27 for the amended Prologue. All five bullets previously described a seam departing from an UNTOUCHED plenitude; they now depart from a Prologue that ends with a loss, and the governing-constraints block carries the accident-not-omen rule in its post-seventh-sitting form, which keeps both ruptures unauthored while allowing the lawful rhyme between them. The two-clock (D-06) constraint and the absolute-pre-reveal constraint are unchanged. Three state facts are added to the handoff and are the Ch-1 entry's to carry: the mother's death (by relation only, no name), the ward worn by the child (unnamed, uninscribed, unidentified), and the King's never-resentment. The seam asserts no ws.* key that the Worldstate registry does not already declare, and it mints no name [SRC: AMULET_PROVENANCE_BRIEF # 10. Every file the integration touches].
