Layer-2 Inter-Chapter Transitions — the Ch 32 to Ch 41 traveled through-line
Story Spine Layer-2 add-on, authored at the RR-42 window as the whole-range arrival and departure pass over the Ch 32 to Ch 41 span. This realizes docs/TRANSITION_TREATMENT.md Layer 2: the connective bridges between chapters — how the protagonist arrives from the previous chapter and departs toward the next — held separate from the chapter bodies because in the 3D build these are their own arrival and departure sequences, not chapter-body prose. It is authored with the whole range in view, since the accumulated sense of travel, the geographic logic of the Atlantic crossing into the modern world, and the emotional carry-over of the midpoint reveal are tunable only at range scale. It continues directly from docs/spine/transitions/TRANSITIONS_CH22_31.md (whose final seam is the Ch 31 to Ch 32 Strait-of-Gibraltar hand-off).
What this document is and is not
It is the between-chapter movement layer. Each entry realizes against the departing chapter's End-state carry-forward block (the departure) and the arriving chapter's Continuity anchor block (the arrival), plus a per-boundary transition note, and stays consistent with the ratified travel geography.
It is not new chapters, not a travelogue, and not a scenery catalogue. Bridges are concise; leanness holds. The chapter bodies already carry the Layer-1 intra-chapter traversal; this layer only threads the seams between them.
Its consumer is the 3D build (each seam maps to a discrete arrival or departure sequence asset) and the spine's own continuity discipline (each seam is a state-consistency checkpoint between two carry-forward blocks). It is indexed in docs/DOC_MAP.md.
Governing constraints (bind every seam)
Travel geography is ground-and-water and, from Ch 39, modern conveyance — never Vimana flight. Ch 32 is the last great overland Saharan route; Ch 33 to Ch 38 are one continuous caravel crossing of the Atlantic (embarkation coast, the Canaries, Cape Verde, the mid-ocean, the western approach, the Azores midpoint); Ch 39 to Ch 41 are modern land-and-air conveyance within Africa. The numbered six-coordinate hunt opens at Ch 41 (Coordinate 1 of 6), but controlled Vimana flight arrives only at Ch 55, so no Vimana travel appears anywhere in this range [SRC: T1_World_Geography_Master # Travel Methods by Arc].
This window crosses from the composite-era past into the present day. The involuntary time-fluctuation that folded years into the crossing ends permanently at the Ch 38 Azores stabilization; the Ch 38 to Ch 39 seam is therefore the crossing into modernity as much as a geographic passage, and from Ch 39 the era-clock runs straight and forward [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_38].
Reveal discipline binds every seam, and this is the window where the reveal lands. Ch 32 to Ch 37 hold the five pattern-components dark (the enemy felt as a distributed apparatus and a structural trace-limit, never a single hand); Ch 38 is the sanctioned midpoint reveal (the Sealed Letter becomes readable, the pattern is named the House of Velheim, and the tie to her elven origin surfaces — the connection, not the whole story); Ch 39 to Ch 41 lift the name to the player-facing modern arc while the patriarch Cassius stays dark to Ch 76 (the chains run up into the nameless Velheim ledger) and the full thesis stays dark to Ch 77 [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_38] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0043].
The protagonist's internal age is designer-only and never surfaced, and this is the window where the D-06 climb completes. It holds at the young-adolescent value through Ch 32 to Ch 34, takes the first placed crossing jump at Ch 35 (to 17) and the second at Ch 37 (to 18, the young-adult threshold), crystallizes at the Ch 38 vril-stabilization, and holds thereafter; age_stage turns from Adolescence to Adulthood at the Ch 38 to Ch 39 boundary [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_35].
Through-line ledgers (the accumulated sense of travel, tracked at range scale)
Internal age (designer-only, never surfaced). The window carries the D-06 climb to its close: held young-adolescent Ch 32 to Ch 34, the first placed jump at Ch 35 and the second at Ch 37 (crossing the young-adult threshold), the plateau crystallized at the Ch 38 stabilization with no further placed jumps, age_stage Adulthood from Ch 39 [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_35].
Familiar accretion (the rotational roster, Shell always present). No new legendary-species bond roots in this window. The carried roster holds — Shell the Water familiar, the Nile Crocodile, the Simurgh, the Koi (its evolution continuing), Taki, Berkut, the Raven, the Reindeer, with Paravani ranging and the Sanur Octopus deferred-and-gated and the Child Familiar still lost. Two open-ocean adjustments track the crossing: Kasa the green sea-turtle (bonded at Ch 8) is foregrounded as the ocean-traveler for the Ch 36 and Ch 37 blue-water legs and concludes her Atlantic range at the Azores, while the Nile Crocodile, a river reptile, ranges off those same open-ocean legs and is present again at the Azores. Shell reaches one of her four canonical peak moments at Ch 38 [SRC: T3_Familiars_Named # Shell].
Devices. The Crown device is force-bound throughout (since Egypt). The Third-Eye device force-bonds at the Ch 38 stabilization (Probability Sight) and is carried and used across Ch 39 to Ch 41 (the inscription-sight modernized onto corporate and legal surfaces) [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_38].
Trade home bases and schools. No new home base roots and no new school debuts in this window; the earlier homes and SCH_001 through SCH_008 are carried cumulatively across every seam, with Trade 1 Ouidah seen in its modern form at Ch 39 and Trade 9 Inscription modernized onto a corporate surface [SRC: T0_School_Registry @ SCH_008].
The human companion arc. The healer's child travels as the continuous primary companion across every seam, and the evidence-journal transfers into the protagonist's own hand at the Ch 38 midpoint (the recorded becoming the recorder), the child continuing beside her as co-witness. Nakhoda Binti Hassan, the Swahili dhow captain, is accounted-for and, on the completionist ally-path, canonically able to reappear for the Ch 38 Azores crossing. Ana the Manggarai caci-fighter rejoins at Ch 41 for the triad climax (her next node since parting after Rome). Two modern contacts are added and carried lightly — the freed fixer Tunde at Ch 39 and the Mbuti guide-elder Amboko at Ch 40 [SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0002].
Identity concealment. It holds at Concealment-with-Hostile-Recognition across the window, the pressure curving with the crossing: low at Ch 32, spiking to high through Ch 33 to Ch 35 as the watching turns to an active hunt, dropping to low across the Ch 36 to Ch 38 surveillance-gap and antagonist-absent midpoint, then settling to moderate through the modern chapters (the vessels treat her as a journalist or activist to litigate, not as what she is) [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_33].
The Sealed Letter and the evidence-journal. The sealed fairy-realm-script letter is carried as an uncracked cross-world mystery through Ch 32 to Ch 37, becomes readable at the Ch 38 stabilization (the reveal), and keeps its deepest last third sealed toward its Ch 66 close. The journal accretes into an evidentiary record across the modern chapters — the biopiracy exposure at Ch 39, the conflict-minerals case at Ch 40, and the land-rights record and the first explicit personal-philosophical entry at Ch 41 [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_38].
The six-coordinate Vimana hunt. Ground-and-water clues only through Ch 40; at Ch 41 the Drakensberg rock-art reads to Vimana Coordinate 1 of 6 (adult inscription mastery completing the Ch 10 partial-read and Ch 13 companion-decode chain), converting the earlier unnumbered clues into the numbered hunt that runs toward the Ch 55 Vimana [SRC: T1_World_Geography_Master # Travel Methods by Arc].
The route at a glance
South across the last great overland Saharan route to the Atlantic embarkation coast; then one continuous caravel crossing of the ocean, island by island — the Canaries, Cape Verde, the open mid-Atlantic, the western approach, and the Azores at the exact centre of the sea; then, the time-fluctuation ended and the crossing over, the arrival into the present-day world on the far shore, and modern conveyance down through the Africa-Modern triad — West Africa, the Congo Basin, and South Africa. It is a crossing in two senses at once — a crossing of the ocean and a crossing from the ancient world into the modern one — and the passages below make each seam of it legible.
Seam entries
Ch 32 to Ch 33 — North Africa to the Atlantic embarkation coast (west to the edge of the ocean)
Departure. She leaves the desert with the Tifinagh literacy and the star-record, the green-Sahara flood-memory that closed the continental pair with the Rift, and the memory of a caravaneer who could not be solved with a blade, turning west toward where the land runs out into the Atlantic [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_32].
Passage. Overland-and-coastal west from the Maghreb to the Iberian-and-Moroccan Atlantic embarkation ports — ground-and-water [SRC: T1_World_Geography_Master # Travel Methods by Arc].
Arrival. Onto the fifteenth-century Portuguese Atlantic edge of the caravel and the portolan chart, where the watching first turns to an active hunt [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_33].
Transition sequence. A desert-to-ocean sequence that closes the land and opens the sea; the whole accreted roster carried to the water's edge as the crossing begins.
Continuity. Age_stage Adolescence (internal age held); the healer's child traveling; concealment rising from low toward the active-hunt high; the organized-power unease carried, never named.
Ch 33 to Ch 34 — the embarkation coast to the Canary Islands (out onto the ocean)
Departure. She sails from the watched port with the counter-surveillance craft learned and the knowledge that the hunt is now active, the trail dead-ended above a port-handler [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_33].
Passage. By caravel out onto the Atlantic to the first island landfall — ground-and-water [SRC: T1_World_Geography_Master # Travel Methods by Arc].
Arrival. Onto the Guanche islands at the moment of the Castilian conquest, a slaver's cove and a people she recognizes without ever having met [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_34].
Transition sequence. A first open-water sequence from the mainland to the volcanic archipelago; the active hunt riding out with her as a distributed net that needs ports and paid eyes.
Continuity. Age_stage Adolescence; concealment high (the active hunt); the trace-limit above the local node carried, never a who.
Ch 34 to Ch 35 — the Canary Islands to Cape Verde (south down the island chain)
Departure. She leaves the Canaries carrying the Guanche flood-story and their whistled words, and the harder knowledge that some of what she witnesses she is too late to prevent and can only refuse to let be forgotten [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_34].
Passage. By caravel south down the Atlantic island chain to the Cape Verde entrepôt — ground-and-water; the first placed internal-age jump falls on this mid-ocean leg [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_35].
Arrival. Into Ribeira Grande, the documented hub of the early Atlantic slave trade and the birthplace of Kriolu, and the coldest proof yet of a nameless institutional enemy [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_35].
Transition sequence. A southward island-hop sequence into the crossroads entrepôt; the active hunt reaching its terminal node, the trail dark above the clerk into an unsigned chain.
Continuity. Internal age stepped up (designer-only), age_stage Adolescence; concealment high; the journal taking in the ledger without a master's name.
Ch 35 to Ch 36 — Cape Verde to the mid-Atlantic (out into the open sea)
Departure. She leaves the entrepôt with the stolen ledger that names ports and prices and never a master, the Kriolu learned at its formation, and the name of a woman who walked out of a coffle [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_35].
Passage. By caravel out into the deep mid-Atlantic, beyond the reach of any port or paid eye — ground-and-water [SRC: T1_World_Geography_Master # Travel Methods by Arc].
Arrival. Into the open-ocean surveillance-gap, the sailor's knowledge and the volta do mar the only company, no eye measuring her [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_36].
Transition sequence. A blue-water sequence into the quiet at the centre of the crossing; Kasa the sea-turtle foregrounded as the ocean-traveler while the river-familiar ranges off the open leg.
Continuity. Age_stage Adolescence; concealment dropping to the surveillance-gap low; the enemy confirmed infrastructural and bounded, never named.
Ch 36 to Ch 37 — the mid-Atlantic to the western approach (the field thickening)
Departure. She sails on with the sailor's knowledge and the volta do mar, and the harder truth held beside the beauty of that knowledge, the deepening field in her chest [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_36].
Passage. By caravel west across the open ocean toward the centre of the sea — ground-and-water; the second placed internal-age jump falls on this final crossing leg, crossing the young-adult threshold [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_37].
Arrival. Into the western approach, the last surveillance-gap vigil, the drowned coasts felt under the swell and the false-landfall mirages of the empty quarter [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_37].
Transition sequence. A field-thickening sequence toward the midpoint, the restraint of the vigil held without discharge; Kasa carried through the final leg as the ocean-traveler.
Continuity. Internal age stepped up (designer-only, the young-adult threshold), age_stage Adolescence; concealment low; the five pattern-components held dark to the last.
Ch 37 to Ch 38 — the western approach to the Azores midpoint (into the centre of the sea)
Departure. She holds the vigil to the last, the drowned coasts felt under the swell and the certainty that the crossing was building to something at the middle of the sea [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_37].
Passage. By caravel into the exact centre of the ocean, the field a roar now, to the nine green islands rising from the deep mid-ocean — ground-and-water [SRC: T1_World_Geography_Master # Travel Methods by Arc].
Arrival. Onto the Azores at the triple-junction hot-spot, the one place clear enough to bear what the midpoint gives [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_38].
Transition sequence. A final approach sequence into the storming centre of the sea, the whole crossing narrowing to the seven-stage stabilization and the reveal that waits inside it; Shell at one of her four canonical peaks, the Nile Crocodile present again after the open legs, Kasa concluding her range.
Continuity. Internal age at the young-adult threshold (crystallizing here), age_stage Adolescence (last); concealment low at the antagonist-absent midpoint; the Sealed Letter about to open.
Ch 38 to Ch 39 — the Azores midpoint to modern West Africa (the crossing into the present day)
Departure. She leaves the centre of the sea a different person than the one who arrived — the time-fluctuation ended for good, the substrate cleared, the Third-Eye force-bonded, the Sealed Letter read and the enemy named the House of Velheim, the journal in her own hand, the hunt turned two-directional — and sets course for the far shore [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_38].
Passage. The crossing completes into the present day: the era-clock runs straight now, and the far shore she reaches is the modern world — ground-and-water into modern conveyance [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_38].
Arrival. Into modern Lagos and the Ch 12 Yoruba coast now standing in the present day, the enemy she has just learned to name already there in a lab coat [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_39].
Transition sequence. The single largest seam of the window — an ocean-crossing that lands in another century, the past folded shut behind her and the modern world opening ahead; the reveal now carried player-facing, the journal hers, Adulthood begun.
Continuity. Age_stage turns Adolescence to Adulthood; the reveal lifted (the House of Velheim nameable, Cassius and the thesis held); the Third-Eye carried; concealment settling to moderate.
Ch 39 to Ch 40 — modern West Africa to the Congo Basin (the modern triad continues)
Departure. She leaves the West-Africa coast with the biopiracy operation exposed and the patent broken, the stolen word given back, the fixer Tunde freed, and the certainty that the whole modern world is the same extraction in a thousand suits [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_39].
Passage. By modern conveyance from West Africa to the Congo Basin — the era-clock straight and forward [SRC: T1_World_Geography_Master # Travel Methods by Arc].
Arrival. Into the Ituri Forest of the same extraction industrialized into a supply chain, and the first moral choice with no clean edge [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_40].
Transition sequence. A modern-conveyance sequence from the megacity coast into the equatorial forest; the journal becoming an evidentiary record, the freed fixer carried lightly forward.
Continuity. Age_stage Adulthood; the reveal lifted (Cassius held); concealment moderate; the House of Velheim's method mapped in its first modern form.
Ch 40 to Ch 41 — the Congo Basin to South Africa (the triad climax)
Departure. She leaves the basin with the conflict-minerals case built and the moral choice made and carried, the militiaman down and the handler exposed, the Mbuti guide-elder Amboko's trust kept [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_40].
Passage. By modern conveyance from the Congo Basin to South Africa — the era-clock straight and forward [SRC: T1_World_Geography_Master # Travel Methods by Arc].
Arrival. Into modern South Africa, the Drakensberg rock-art country and a ≠Khomani community's land-fight, the enemy's method at its smallest and worst [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_41].
Transition sequence. A modern-conveyance sequence into the triad's personal-scale climax; Ana rejoining at cost for the found-family reunion, the guide-elder and the freed fixer carried as modern contacts.
Continuity. Age_stage Adulthood; the reveal lifted (Cassius and the thesis held); concealment moderate; the journal now a thick evidentiary record.
Ch 41 to Ch 42 — South Africa to the Caribbean (the window hand-off)
Departure. With the ≠Khomani land held, the concession stalled, Oupa Gert's knowing kept with his grandchildren, and the first of six Vimana coordinates read off the Drakensberg wall, she turns toward the Atlantic diaspora and the Caribbean [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_41].
Passage. By modern conveyance across the Atlantic to the Caribbean — the numbered six-coordinate hunt now open but controlled Vimana flight still held to Ch 55 [SRC: T1_World_Geography_Master # Travel Methods by Arc].
Arrival. Into Haiti, where the homeland ase she defended at Ch 39 travelled the Middle Passage to become the diaspora's aché, the vril-parallel at its Caribbean peak [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_42].
Transition sequence. A trans-Atlantic modern-conveyance sequence closing the Africa-Modern triad and opening the diaspora arc; the found-family (the healer's child, Ana returned) and the whole accreted roster carried across, the six-coordinate hunt's first bearing in hand.
Continuity. Age_stage Adulthood; every window bond, home, and school carried; the reveal lifted (Cassius and the thesis held); concealment moderate. The window closes here; the Ch 42 build feeds from this hand-off.
