decisions/spine/LAYER_MODEL_V2_REMAP_SPEC.md
Status: SPECCED, not yet applied (2026-07-12). The D-layer-model-v2 amendment (ratified Josh 2026-07-12) rewrote CVD §2 and Pillar 12 to the four-band Layer-model-v2, and its Pillar-12 Cross-ref bullet carries the authoritative supersession note. That note governs the remaining ~40 stale "Layer 1/2/3" references across the CVD (exactly as §17.7's deprecation clause governs stale realm names), so the CVD is self-consistent-with-supersession, not hard-contradictory. This remaining terminology remap is deliberately its own reviewable diff (per the amendment's apply-note #3) because it is a many-to-many semantic mapping that touches reveal-discipline sections — it must not be rushed.
Layer-model-v2 is NOT a rename; it is a re-partition:
| OLD model (three-layer) | NEW model (Layer-model-v2) |
|---|---|
| Layer 1 — surface / mechanical routing ("find pyramid → vril recharge") | L1 — systems-play (the AAA action-RPG; the substrate operates as real for every player). The old "mechanical routing / substrate-as-real" content lives here now. |
| Layer 2 — investigatable depth (journal, Grimoire links, inscription, cultural texture) | SPLITS: the ambient culture/history/geography half → L1.5; the cross-cultural connection / Grimoire-link / pattern-weaving half → L3. |
| Layer 3 — canonical truth ("the why", never spoken) | L3 — the rabbit-hole (the connections the player makes + "engage the why"). |
| (none) | L2 — the completionist (systems mastery: max skills, top-score minigames, max vehicles/bases, every side quest). BRAND NEW. |
The two traps that make this semantic, per-occurrence work:
L3 (canonical truth / the why) is NEVER declared — that invariant is unchanged and load-bearing. The reveal-sensitive sections (§17.5 per-chapter mandates lines ~1067-1071; §18 "Show, Never Tell" line ~1153; §18.2 "surfacing routes" lines ~1163-1207) must keep "the substrate is felt/surfaced, never spoken." Re-verify reveal discipline after the remap.
Non-exhaustive line pointers (verify live before editing — Stage-1/2 shifted lines):
/spine-chapter skill + the normalize-doc critic rubric (both currently say "three layers L1/L2/L3").A single focused pass (one careful editor or one adversarially-verified agent) working section-by-section top-to-bottom, applying the mapping table above, then: (1) grep the CVD for surviving bare "Layer 2"/"three-layer" and confirm each is intentional; (2) run python harness/run_gates.py (lint/anchors); (3) reveal-discipline re-verify on §17.5/§18/§18.2; (4) re-key the four downstream consumers in the same commit. Not a blocker for the endgame re-cascade (endgame nodes author against the now-canonical Pillar-12 + §2 v2 model).
