Batch-1 Rulings Log (Josh, walk-through 2026-07-04)

Running record of Josh's decisions as we walk docs/DECISION_DOSSIER.md one by

one. Each entry: the ruling + the follow-on action + its state. Rulings 5-7

(vision expansion) live in docs/CANON_AUDIT.md.

1. Boss roster — APPROVED (with amendments) + vision expansion

• Approved ("agreed with the reasoning"). Expanded via rulings 5-7: the 75-row

roster is the main-chapter-boss layer; each chapter adds sub-bosses across

threads + NPC personas + everything-woven per

docs/proposals/CHAPTER_BUILD_TARGET.md. Ch 57 fauna resolved by Ruling 5.

• ACTION: build target codified; registry population queued (post-approval

cascade step). The 3 same-mode main-boss pairs resolve in the cascade respec.

2. School roster — APPROVED (with two carve-outs)

• Approved. Carve-outs accepted: (a) the "no 14th school" governance rule is

flagged not defaulted; (b) the 120-gate figure resolves upward (canonical in

T1_Trades_Master §4) — settles decision #16.

• Poison boundary: ADOPT (no school teaches Poison; toxicology stays with

the Tamil Siddha trade questline).

• Freedom Form (Tier 8) + Collective Surge (Tier 7): REDESIGNED + APPLIED

to T1_Ability_Tree. Freedom Form: stat-pump -> phase intangibly through

solids/bodies/attacks (wind-substrate, sustained_drain; the one field change

passive->sustained_drain is flagged). Collective Surge: party-stat-surge ->

open a shared vril-conduit that pools vril + relays the party's casts (the

connection thesis as mechanic). Both grounded, grep-verified no verb

collision, scan-gate green.

• "No 14th school" governance rule: recommend ADOPT (protects endgame verb-

orthogonality); treating as adopted unless Josh says leave the door open.

• ACTION: T0_School_Registry population (13 rows) queued for the batched apply

pass. Ability redesign DONE (commit 8babad3).

3. Ch 70-77 deepest-layer hook — APPROVED (with amendments)

• Three-hook engine (Witnessing / place-as-text / convergence-choreography)

APPROVED with amendments.

• Witnessing = Pillar-5 extension (culture-to-referent, one Earth-side end

preserved per link): RATIFIED.

• Convergence-map show-don't-tell lock: CONFIRMED — shows the 22 threads

converging as PATTERN only; never names or counts down to the point before

the Ch 76-77 reveal (§17.9 / §15 hard lock).

• Two small flags kept default (Josh agreed): battle-myth references stay

comparative-tier (not upgraded to witnessable realm-war memory); fairy-realm

serpent tradition keeps a reserved-but-empty Witness slot (Phase-6 content).

• ACTION: hook plan is design-ratified; builds in the Ch 70-77 cascade range.

4. Difficulty & accessibility — RATIFIED (architecture + all held items)

• Architecture RATIFIED: one canonical difficulty; in-fiction relief valves;

the judgment-free assist layer; the answer-pruning hardest mode (never HP

inflation).

• Defeat model RATIFIED as canon: consciousness withdrawal to the last attuned

recharge source + defeat writes a path-variable journal observation.

• The six smaller items RATIFIED (Josh agreed all): Exemptus prunes mode-local

(canonical grants intact in default); Exemptus timing post-completion default

• from-start override buried; Tier-C assists client-local, Exemptus Tier-A/B

only; colorblind vril-polarity multi-channel readability as an L1 requirement.

• NAMING — **CLOSED (Josh, 2026-07-04: "I love these difficulty names; they are

perfect"). Final ladder: Wellspring (Story) · Veiled** (Easy) ·

Fading (Medium = the true tuning) · Sundered (Hard) · -> **The

Forgotten One** (prestige easter egg). One continuous taxonomy on the canon

realm's-fading-reach axis (= the vril-density difficulty dial): home floods

you -> a veil falls -> the reach fades -> the tie sunders -> you are the one it

forgot. Each name grounded in the withdrawal canon (VRIL §1 threshold-of-

perception, §10 contraction-not-collapse / depletion-as-process); Flow/Ebb/

Drought retired as too passive/environmental for player-facing names (they were

the correct four-states-of-the-flow VISION; the reader now vibes via the

state-of-the-bond names + the lore backgrounds). Full spec + lore backgrounds:

docs/proposals/DIFFICULTY_SYSTEM.md. Method recorded in

docs/NAMING_METHOD.md.

• Prestige/NG+ easter egg (SEPARATE, post-Drought unlock, Abyss-crossing

rite) = The Forgotten One (Josh's name — ties to the game's own title;

sole path to 100% / rarest loot / deepest substrate-truth lore; character

prestige = the Adeptus Exemptus threshold; new complexity via canon-native

seventh-vril-seat un-pruning, no 13th tier; depths Magister Templi -> Magus).

• Accessibility = Attunements (always-available, judgment-free; includes

the non-negotiable colorblind vril-polarity multi-channel readability).

• #4 CLOSED. Lands as the canon difficulty/accessibility doc downstream.

7. Pacing philosophy — APPROVED (all recommendations)

• R4 = ALL-FIVE beats per chapter binds (CVD §4.5/§16.2 verbatim x3; and it

is Ruling 7 applied — every chapter weaves everything). The spine authors any

missing beat per chapter; the 65 current R4 waivers are the burn-down list

and shrink to zero through Phase 6.

• Epilogue stays combat=Y (the reversal — HL_0045/RCM bar only path-variant

Epilogue content, never playability; HL_0051 + R6 make combat-absence a

hard-line violation). Already the applied value.

• Prologue & Epilogue stay IN the pacing windows (Gate A default).
• ACTION: no gate/table change needed — the applied state already matches all

three rulings; the 65 R4 waivers are the cascade's per-chapter beat-authoring

worklist.

6. WGM combat-layer wording (Ch 38/52/57) — APPROVED + applying

• Ruling-5 rewording APPROVED ("resolves Ch 57 and other issues"): the WGM

"No combat" labels at Ch 38/52/57 reframe to Ruling-5 combat scope (combat

via environmental/atmospheric hazards, dangerous fauna, and — where present —

the community's oppressors; NEVER the protected people; Ch 57 also keeps

no-Velheim-family per HL_0106). Ch 57 fauna RESOLVED (Combat L371 stands).

• VS_CH57_001 Vril-Site row: site_class = songline_path (new class — a

songline is a distributed living-inscription path, Josh agreed);

canonical_status = LOCKED (grounded in the §17.1 hard line).

• The two mis-citation residues (T1_Vril §11.1 L314 "No combat"; T1_Languages

L66/L233 §17.7 mis-citations) ride along.

• ACTION: applying the 4 WGM reframes + 2 residues + the VS_CH57_001 row.

8. Per-chapter canon conflicts — RESOLVED (3 by prior rulings) + Vimana RULED

• Ch 40-41 R1 collision and Ch 37 flanking-vs-encounter: dissolved by the #5

re-pacing (CH_40 -> stealth, CH_37 -> vril_management). Ch 57 fauna: settled

by Ruling 5. No decision needed on these three.

• VIMANA COORDINATE MODEL — RULED: RCM version (Josh: "I like the vimana

riddle to not show up until later"). Canon = the back-half hunt: **Ch 41 =

coordinate 1 of 6**, sequence 41 / 45 / 46 / 47 / 49 / 50 per RCM (Ch 50 = Coordinate 6 of 6), culminating in the Ch 55 Atacama activation (Ch 55 is the activation, not a coordinate). The WGM

early refs (Ch 10 "first clue", Ch 13 "Set 2 of 6") are the OLD model — they

reframe to pre-hunt foreshadowing/clues that precede the numbered sequence, so

nothing before Ch 41 carries a numbered coordinate. ACTION: grounded

alignment of WGM (+ any other doc) to the RCM model — proposal pass running,

applied gate-green after critic review.

8b. Thread 2 (the Serpent) in the Ch 70-77 finale — RULED (a) NOT_PRESENT

• Josh agreed with the recommendation. Thread 2 = NOT_PRESENT per-chapter for

Ch 70-75 (arc-complete, resolved-into-referent). The serpent is the human

PERCEPTION of vril-in-motion; the fairy realm is not a human culture, so no

NEW discrete cultural serpent anchor is scored per finale chapter — the thread

completed its discrete arc at Ch 69 (Maatherion / World Tree serpent) and

resolves into its referent, named ONCE at the Ch 76 waterfall ("one thing

wearing many forms", THREADS L996). The absence IS the payoff (the masks come

off) AND the show-don't-tell-safe reading (a scheduled serpent beat through

Ch 70-75 would read as counting down to the reveal — CVD §17.9 hard line).

Canon writes the absences affirmatively (§8: Ch 70/74 "No other Major or Minor

Thread direct anchors"; Ch 75 "No Major or Minor Thread direct anchors"); the

range-level line "Ch 70-77: fairy realm's own serpent tradition" (L180) stays

as background atmosphere. Josh declined the optional (b) single Ch 72 Witness

beat. Feeds the #10 apply: THREAD_02 CH_70-75 = NOT_PRESENT.

9. Cross-cultural link-graph rewards — APPROVED + DEEPENED + cleanup fan-out

• The four Pillar-5 reward classes APPROVED: **LORE / WEAPON_ABILITY /

SCHOOL_TECHNIQUE / INTUITION_TIER**, assigned to the 26 reward-less rows by a

link_type -> class rule (specific payoffs authored in the cascade).

• DEEPENED (Josh): (a) ADD PUZZLE_UNLOCK and DISCOVERY_UNLOCK classes

tied to the health / vril / stamina meters (surfacing a link can open a

puzzle or a discovery that grows a meter); (b) LORE is never empty — a

lore reward POINTS the player toward specific puzzle unlocks, discovery

unlocks, and mystery easter eggs (it is a thread to pull, not a dead-end

codex entry). Make the whole reward structure deeper along these lines.

• EVIDENCE-BASIS CLEANUP — fan-out, do NOT defer (Josh: "especially what may

cause hallucinations in future sessions"). The link rows cite the Threads doc

(secondary) where Pillar 5 wants primary-source documentation. Fan-out audits

all rows, honestly labels evidence tier (kills false primary-confidence =

the anti-hallucination win), and upgrades to real, well-established primaries

where one clearly applies — NEVER inventing a citation (flag, don't fabricate).

• ACTION: reward deepen + assignment proposal + evidence cleanup fan-out running;

applied after review.

10. Thread_Grid 35 anchor-gap cells — RULED (Option B) + APPLIED

• Option B (triage by family) RULED + all five sub-flags confirmed. APPLIED

2026-07-04 (commit 87a82b2), gate-green:

• 35 anchor_gap cells resolved: 27 flagged + 5 mislabeled CH_33-37 + Thread_11

CH_45/46 + Thread_3 CH_10 -> NOT_PRESENT (provenance in extensions);

5 canon-derivations (Thread5 Ch70 RCM transit, Thread5 Ch12 iroko, Thread1

Ch14/32/59) -> ANCHOR josh_authored. Zero anchor_gap flags remain.

• Thread-2 finale (8b) folded in: THREAD_02 CH_70-75 = NOT_PRESENT.
• L145 + FULL cross-ref sync: Chapter_Index thread_anchors_complete updated for

all 40 changed cells (CH_33-37 T02:A -> T02:NP + every NOT_PRESENT token ->

:NP) so grid and index agree cell-for-cell. NP convention verified vs CH_57.

• Invariant reframed: "every chapter advances Threads 1-6" = framework-

continuity (cumulative Pattern across 77 ch), NOT a per-cell fill mandate.

• FOLLOW-UP: Threads §8 Ch 70 line patch (Thread-5 anchor now present) batches

with the Vimana/Ch66-69 _source pass.

Ch 64 Atlantis-construct — RULED (b)

• Keep the pre-fall Atlantis first-manifestation at Ch 64, reframed: it

surfaces among the drowned sites at Ch 64; the realm proper is Ch 66 (CVD

§17.7). Applying the held Ch 64 edits (T4 L411, Antagonist NW_0059, Threads

Atlantis clause) per (b).

5. Topography re-pacing — APPROVED + APPLIED

• 3 mode edits APPLIED (CH_37 direct->vril_management, CH_40 puzzle_routed->

stealth, CH_72 direct->environmental) + the 4 R1/R2 hotspot waivers REMOVED

(69->65; the 65 R4 waivers remain). run_gates green. Proposal docs mirrored.

• Carried calls RULED (Josh agreed the 3 recommendations): Ch 73 intensity =

STANDARD (scale != grade; a peak breaks HL_0048 no-triple-peak); Ch 62

op-typing = POLITICAL ACCESS (keeps vril_management) — contingent on the

region-order resolution below; the 7 CVD §12.2 combat-mode slugs CONFIRMED.

• REGION ORDER (Ch 59-64) — RESOLVED: WGM governs (Josh's instinct

confirmed). Investigation verdict: CVD's one binding revisit anchor (Nan

Madol = Ch 63 Pacific, §3 C11) matches WGM not T4; WGM owns geography per the

hierarchy (T4 §12.5 concedes it); T4 §9.4 is unreconciled Drive-era legacy

while RCM v1.1.4 + Threads v2.2 + the live registries all follow WGM. Canon

order: 59 Africa · 60 Asia · 61 Europe · 62 Americas · 63 Pacific · 64

Underwater · 65 Antarctica. ALIGNMENT APPLIED (grounded, gates green):

T4 §9.4 re-keyed (5 lines, op-type overlay preserved), the T0_Antagonist_

Network registry fixed (5 rows had WGM chapter_ids stapled to T4 description

text — self-contradictory, now consistent), Threads §7 summary re-ordered.

Ch 62 op-typing = vril_management CONFIRMED (Ch 62 = Americas, vril-site-

recall content; POLITICAL_ACCESS sector overlay unchanged). No topography

ripple (table already on WGM order).

• HELD for Josh — Ch 64 Atlantis-construct. Aligning Ch 64's region label

to "Underwater Sites" is clean, but T4 L411 / §2.5 / T0_Hard_Lines also

anchor a "pre-fall Atlantis first-manifestation" construct to "Ch 64" — and

CVD §17.7 puts Atlantis at Ch 66. So the construct either (a) re-homes to

Ch 66 Atlantis, or (b) stays at Ch 64 as an Underwater-Sites-adjacent

consciousness anchor decoupled from the Atlantis label. Hard-line-flagged

construct placement = Josh's call. The Ch 64 edits (T4 L411, Antagonist

NW_0059, Threads Atlantis clause) are held pending this ruling.
