CANON SUBORDINATION — this document is PROPOSAL-TIER: it serves canon and never outranks it.
The canon: the CVD · the T1 foundation docs · the T0 registries (registries/) · the spine
(docs/spine/CH_*.md) · the region pages (_source/02_Tier_2_Region_Pages/). Authority order:docs/DOC_MAP.md§ 0.
Canon served (scanned from this document's own citations — widen it by hand where it is thin):

READ THAT CANON FIRST — open it and derive from it before you build anything from this document.
If this document disagrees with canon, CANON WINS and this document is the defect — fix the
document, never the canon. Nothing here is applied until it is ratified into canon.
STATUS: PROPOSAL-TIER design sheet, written to docs/proposals/bestiary/BESTIARY_ELEVATION_DOCTRINE.md

THE PERMISSION QUESTION, SETTLED ON THE LIVE ROW BEFORE ANYTHING IS DESIGNED. The landed CR_0003
sheet describes this row as "OBSERVE-only and combat_permission PROTECTED" at L30-31, repeats it in
its care_read at L102 and again in its boarded_debts at L118, and this row's own notes cell repeats
"combat_permission PROTECTED" inside a split-rationale paragraph. All four are STALE. The live cell reads PERMITTED, and the row's cultural_care_register cell
rules the reading in its own words: PERMITTED with a WORLD-RULE cost, not an engine flag — inside the
temple precinct this is a standing and integrity hit, the community reacts on sight, and the quest
lines that run through those people remember it; §17.1 is COLLECTIVE and is framing-level protection
of a community, never a claim about game animals; an animal cannot be harder-protected than a person
[T0_Creature_Roster @ CR_0140 :: cultural_care_register]. The "non-huntable" phrase elsewhere in
notes resolves as a DROP-TABLE posture — rng_drop_anchor withheld, no materials reward — and not
as a prohibition, exactly as CR_0133 carries the same pair. Permitted, costly, and unrewarded. That
reading governs this sheet, and the stale statements are reported as findings (the full inventory of
five sites is in § 9), not edited here.
DERIVED FROM THE ANATOMY REFERENCE TABLE, NOT DECLARED INLINE. The per-archetype table is on disk and
this row is one of its named exemplars, so the doctrine § 2.1 inline-licence no longer applies here:
the block below is re-derived from build/3d/schema/anatomy_reference/ARBOREAL_PRIMATE.json sub-plan
cercopithecoid. Where the bucket is silent, the line is labelled INLINE_DECLARED. THE BRACHIATOR
INHERITANCE IS DROPPED: an earlier draft of this sheet carried a 180-degree shoulder copied forward
from the CR_0003 sheet, and the bucket's own note rules it out — a monkey's overhead reach is real
but LIMITED, and it is the hominoid sub-plan that roughly doubles the abduction.
and the only mammal in the table that walks in diagonal sequence.
chains of at least 4 bones each, ten hand-digit chains of at least 3 and ten foot-digit chains of at
least 2, clavicle_L and clavicle_R REQUIRED, opposable hallux required, gait sequence diagonal.
because the foot grasps and a primate rigged with a human foot cannot hold a branch or a coping;
an opposable pollex, short relative to the fingers; a clavicle PRESENT and load-bearing, so this
shoulder is strutted rather than slung; a long tail used in balance; and the scapula LATERAL on the
ribcage, which is the reason the shoulder is built for fore-aft swing and not for overhead reach.
Cheek pouches are a visible loaded volume (INLINE_DECLARED).
axial rotation -60 to +60 [FLEAGLE2013, LARSON1998]; elbow flexion 0 to +145 with FULL
pronosupination -80 to +90, which is the defining primate forelimb capability and separates this
plan from every other quadruped in the table [FLEAGLE2013]; hip flexion/extension -30 to +120,
abduction 0 to +60, axial rotation -45 to +45; knee 0 to +140; first metatarsophalangeal (hallux)
abduction 0 to +60 and flexion/extension -40 to +30, which is the grasping axis and without it
there is no arboreal locomotion [SCHULTZ1963, FLEAGLE2013]. The jaw's open-mouth threat is a
display and not a bite (INLINE_DECLARED).
why a macaque built on a dog's lateral-sequence cycle reads subtly wrong; duty factor 0.5 to 0.75
[CARTMILL2002, HILDEBRAND2001]. The clip set is named against Hunt et al. 1996: quadrupedal walk
and run, vertical climb, leap, suspensory arm-swing, sit, squat, bipedal stand. The bucket's solver
note binds this row hardest of the five — genuine IK on four grasping end-effectors plus a balance
tail, onto arbitrary dressed-stone surfaces.
the troop moves as a distributed mass with no single centre to read.
below the stonework — which is how the player will first see thirty of them at once
ORDINARY_FAUNA and no folklore attribution is carried. What the row DOES carry is a place —
the temple macaques of Angkor's galleries and forest, habituated commensals of the sacred precinct
[T0_Creature_Roster @ CR_0140 :: cultural_significance].
non-targets — the temple servants and dancers, the priesthood, the farmers and market people
[CH_05.md:246] — and Ta Prohm's own foundation stele records tens of thousands of temple servants
[CH_05.md:101]. The animal is not protected; the room is populated, and that is the whole design of
the cost.
source_ref cites angkor_khmer § 3, andthat section (L173-191) names no macaque — it states that the page CONSUMES the roster rows the
spine already staged. The row's own notes cell records this dangle for the whole CR_0133-CR_0150
cohort and asks for a director ruling. This sheet therefore grounds its staging on the roster row
and on the spine's site rows for angkor_wat and bayon_taprohm [CH_05.md:99, L101], and claims no
region-page attestation it does not have.
register: REAL_FAUNA (TRUE_TO_LIFE) — doctrine § 3D, ratified 2026-08-12.
WHY ELEVATION IS REFUSED, IN ONE LINE: this row's folklore columns are empty, canon stages no
supernatural claim on it, and the chapter's whole care architecture rests on the naga being the only
mythologically-stylized water-serpent in the region [CH_05.md:267, L330] — a supernatural macaque in
that chapter is the mirror image of the Komodo defect.
THE LEGIBILITY CONTRACT, which is half of how the replica test discharges in this register. This row
is the STONE read of the chapter's two-read discrimination system, and it is stated identically on
every sheet that carries it: a troop leaving the high line of a gallery answers to the WARDS ROUSING
and never to water. Its confusable neighbour is not another primate — there is none in the chapter —
it is its own earlier self at CR_0003, and the discrimination there is silhouette-plus-state:
CR_0003's Bali form is a lean cliff animal on limestone, this cohort is a heavier, glossier animal on
dressed sandstone with polished pads and one banded individual. Same species, two readable places.
THE STATE LADDER, which is the other half. Forest-typical, provisioned-habituated, and
precinct-resident, and this cohort is the third rung: body condition heavier and coat glossier than a
forest troop's, palms and callosities stone-polished pale, old males' canines worn blunt and chipped
on stone rather than wood, and carried human debris accumulating on individuals with the bandolier as
its terminal state. A photograph of a species-typical Macaca fascicularis contains none of that
ladder, which is what the register requires of it.
ONE-LINE SILHOUETTE READ: a macaque sitting on a temple balustrade holding ground it should not hold,
with a strip of somebody's cloth worn under one arm that will never come off.
ELEVATION BUDGET: TWO AXES, A5 AND A9, WHICH ARE THIS REGISTER'S OWN NATURAL SPEND. This is AMBIENT
ordinary fauna, and inflating it is the mirror image of the defect the doctrine exists to fix. What it
gets instead is a STATE, a MARK and a JOB.
PRIMARY — A5 AGE AND STATE, spent as PRECINCT HABITUATION. MECHANISM: generations of commensal life on
human surplus, lived on dressed sandstone.
population is a fatter one — a real and visible consequence, and the first thing that separates this
cohort from CR_0003's Flores form at a glance.
where a forest animal's are matte and split. The precinct is written on the parts that touch it.
bead. That is the same reading CR_0003's Bali cliff troop carries in a different key, and it is
deliberately the same, because it is the same species doing the same thing in a richer place.
SUPPORTING — A9 THE MARK, and it sits on ONE INDIVIDUAL. The troop's escalating male wears a strip of
offering-cloth as a bandolier under one arm, snagged there long enough that the fur has grown around
it. One high-contrast band on one animal, readable across a gallery at any distance, and it is how a
player learns that the troop has a leader and which one it is. One mark, no second.
THE JOB, AND IT IS THE PART NO PHOTOGRAPH CONTAINS. This troop reads the temple's wards before any
person does. When the court official's faction perverts the wards and the stone guardians rouse
[CH_05.md:162], the macaques abandon that gallery first — they go up, they go quiet, and they go in a
direction.
THE RESIDENTS-LEAVE SHAPE, AND ITS DISCRIMINATOR, RULED. The shape is THE LANE'S, established on
CR_0005 at the Ch-2 fed spring and not the doctrine's: residents vacate in a direction and the
direction is a free early-warning system. The lesson is the same one that sheet taught — something
larger is coming — and it is repeated deliberately, three chapters later, inside a stone city. THE
DISCRIMINATOR, stated identically on all four CH_05 sheets that carry the shape: A WATER READ ANSWERS
TO WATER AND A STONE READ ANSWERS TO STONE. This troop's departure answers to the wards rousing and
NEVER to a crocodile; the monitor going in (CR_0146) and the otter troupe's alarm chorus (CR_0148)
answer to CR_0133 coming up and never to a ward. One shape, two answers, and the medium is the tell
that keeps them apart.
EMISSION: none.
physical properties, never painted texture, because the theft mechanic requires the taken thing to
be an object that can be dropped, chased and recovered.
the same place on every plate and every mesh and the player can learn it.
THE ENCOUNTER VERBS, WITH THEIR PROVENANCE SPLIT: CR_0140 carries no boss row and no attack-rail
rows. TAKE DERIVES from cells — temperament_prior is bold and collect_verb is DOCUMENT with
dex_completion_class OBSERVATION_CHAIN, which together describe an animal that approaches and takes
rather than one that is taken. MOB DERIVES FROM NO CELL and is THIS SHEET'S MINT, coined for the
escalation shape below; § 7's invention declaration already names the mob shape as invented and § 6
now agrees with it. The part-economy home is NONE on the body, affirmatively — nothing on this animal
breaks, and the encounter's real currency is the taken object, which has no schema home (§ 9).
| tell shape | body origin | the one answer | counter class |
|---|---|---|---|
| the angle (OPENER) | it comes at a diagonal and does not look at the player; the head is turned off-line | close the hand on the pouch before the freeze | dodge |
| the freeze | it stops fully, weight forward, one hand lifted | the commit is one beat away; move, do not wait | dodge |
| the snatch | precision grip, and the exit is vertical onto the balustrade coping | it is gone up, and the answer is the climb | dodge |
| the hold-and-bargain | it sits with the taken thing, in reach, watching | the trade is open, and this is the recovery route that is not a chase | dodge |
| the mob | the troop's spacing COLLAPSES, three or more come to the ground and spread laterally with the banded male at the middle, open-mouth threat on all of them | give ground and break line of sight; this is not a fight to win | dodge |
meetable contact surface, so all five map to the ruled DODGE class rather than to a fourth token
this sheet has no authority to mint. The timing nuance is real and it lives in prose: the first two
shapes are answered by a hand moving before the commit, the third and fourth by choosing between
the climb and the trade, and only the fifth is a whole-body withdrawal in the ordinary dodge sense.
CR_0003's and carry identical answers — the belt-target angle, the one-beat freeze, the vertical
exit answered by the climb, and the open trade answered by the offer. Same species, same grammar,
and the game does not teach a second dialect for the same animal. What is NEW here is the fifth
shape and the room it happens in.
claims no contact counter it cannot show.
announcement, and it is legible from anywhere in the gallery. BREATH: the open-mouth threat with the
brow raised and ears flattened, held. VOCALIZATION: the alarm-bark chorus, which spreads along the
troop faster than the troop moves. NEW OPENER: after escalation the opener is the mob, not the
angle — the taking is over and the holding has started.
more bodies: two angles converging, then the mob, which is the angle run by six.
and it uses the architecture's own routes rather than the player's. It leaves a gallery upward and
it returns within the beat, which makes the arena change character while the player watches.
player, and a player who learns to watch them gets the rouse before the constructs give it to them.
sheet does not re-apply collective protection to a game animal. The collective protection that IS
live in the room protects the Khmer community, the temple servants and the priesthood from being
cast as villains or targets [CH_05.md:246], and this design never puts them in the target position.
permitted; it is also seen. Standing drops, integrity moves, the community reacts on sight, and the
quest lines that run through those people remember it [`T0_Creature_Roster @ CR_0140 ::
cultural_care_register`]. Nothing is blocked, nothing is refused, and the world answers — which is
the project's own definition of mature violence: weight and consequence, never absence.
dex_completion_class OBSERVATION_CHAIN. The taming axis is OBSERVE, which is watched-never-taken and
is a statement about the TRADE, not about facing — this row is combat-facing on the ruled demand
table and the two cells do not conflict.
Nothing here is identity-bearing beyond the banded individual, which takes the plate.
making the precinct kill impossible by setting combat_permission PROTECTED, on the theory that a
sacred precinct should refuse it. REFUSED, on the row's own words — an animal cannot be
harder-protected than a person, and §17.1 is framing-level protection of a community and never a
claim about game animals. The cost is the correct tool and it is already authored.

pads, the mob shape and the four escalation channels are INVENTED BY THIS SHEET as the game's own

combat_permission on this row reads PERMITTED while FOUR OTHER SURFACES SAY PROTECTED, and the inventory is named in full so a repair lane can sweep it in one pass: (1) this row's own notes
cell, inside its split-rationale paragraph; (2) the landed CR_0003 sheet at L30-31; (3) the same
sheet at L102, in its care_read; (4) the same sheet at L118, in its boarded_debts. A fifth
repetition landed in this same wave on a sibling lane's CR_0145_asian_elephant_angkor.md
boarded_debts. One live cell, five stale statements, and the governing reading is the row's own
cultural_care_register. The notes prose wants a registry-lane repair; the four sheet sites want a
sheet-lane pass; neither is edited from here.
