passive companion occupying no combat slot [T3_Creatures_Tameable § 1.4]. Elevation is REFUSED
because every folklore column on this row is empty, the cultural_significance cell is two words of
taxonomy, no supernatural claim is staged on this animal anywhere in the corpus, and the chapter's
care architecture rests on the //gauwasi sickness-shadow being the only mythologically-stylized
presence in it [CH_10.md:223].

ONE ROW, TWO SPECIES, AND THE SHEET IS BUILT ON KEEPING THEM APART. scientific_name carries *Equus
quagga* and *Equus grevyi* separated by a semicolon, and T3_Creatures_Tameable:454 says the same in
prose — "Zebra (*Equus quagga*, *E. grevyi*) — multiple species." Two real animals with different
stripe grammars, different ears, different social structures and different ground share one canon id.
This sheet builds BOTH as declared regional forms on one row's state ladder, because that is what the
cell says, and § 9 boards the id question for the registry lane rather than deciding it here.

build/3d/schema/anatomy_reference/QUADRUPED.json § sub_plans.ungulate_unguligrade, whose
reference_taxon is *Equus caballus* and *Bos taurus* and whose exemplar line reads "generic
bovid/equid". This row is an equid and the bucket's reference taxon IS an equid, so the coverage here
is the closest in the whole CH_10 plains set. The doctrine's § 2.1 inline licence EXPIRED 2026-08-12
and a covered row derives from the bucket and cites the path.

ELEMENT at −60 to 45 excursion, dorsiflexing far under load at gallop midstance, and a gallop with a

[§ gait]. The walk is LATERAL-sequence, LH-LF-RH-RF, at duty factor 0.55 to 0.8; the trot runs
diagonal couplets at 0.35 to 0.5.
of at least 4 bones each; bilateral symmetry required [QUADRUPED.json § rig_conformance]
The table publishes no cervical ROM and no cervical/thoracic/lumbar split of the 25 presacral
vertebrae, so the high head-carriage this design's whole sentinel read rests on is inline: the neck
is carried steeply and the head sits well ABOVE the topline, which is the physical fact that lets one
animal in a herd become a pointer. The table covers bone and joint only, so the ERECT MANE and its
stiffness, the ear pinna and its independent rotation, the stripe field, the muzzle and the tail's
terminal switch of long hair are all inline. The DOUBLE-BARREL KICK in § 6 is built inside the
table's declared ranges and adds nothing: hip extension toward 162 with the stifle-hock coupling
driving both segments together, which is exactly the coupling that makes the kick fast and makes it
impossible to fake with independent joints. The table's standing caveat carries: goniometry measures
the PASSIVE envelope and what a live animal reaches under its own power is smaller by an amount the
sources do not separate [QUADRUPED.json § unmeasured].
height_m and length_axis are EMPTY on this row,§ 9): a mid-sized equid, mass carried evenly, standing square and awake. It walks and grazes with the
head low and the ears moving constantly, and the single most characteristic thing about its stance is
that at any moment in any herd at least one animal has its head UP.
topline from poll to withers, large mobile ears held high, a heavy head on a steep neck, and a tail
that is a bare rope for most of its length ending in a switch.
folklore_behavior_substrate and folklore_attribution_source are both EMPTY, cultural_care_register is EMPTY, and
cultural_significance reads "multiple species" — two words of taxonomy. There is no tradition to
cite because the row asserts none, and inventing a Rift zebra folklore in a chapter whose entire care
problem is that the corpus attests almost nothing would be the citation test's most tempting failure.
rather than mints — "the zebra (CR_0064)" in a list of twelve rows [rift_valley.md:232-237] — and
T3_Creatures_Tameable:449-454 files it under "Mid-level and TAME" as "Zebra (*Equus quagga*, *E.
grevyi*) — multiple species." That is the whole substrate. Two list entries.
region page records that this region has no zoological source at all: nothing on the page states how
a hyena clan holds ground, how a buffalo commits to a charge, or what a fish eagle's presence tells a
watcher about a shoreline, and the readable-behaviour layer is an acquisition target rather than an
invention [rift_valley.md:245-252]. Every ethological line in § 4 and § 6 is therefore marked
AUTHORIAL_ANATOMY: general zoological knowledge carried by this sheet as DESIGN, never presented as
a claim of any source this region holds.
SRC_00186 is the region's one genuinely Rift-scoped record,a compiled popular biography of a twentieth-century archaeologist, and it carries nothing about any
animal [rift_valley.md:944-951]. A search that matches it and returns nothing for Rift ecology is
reporting an absence rather than failing. This sheet makes no SRC_-bearing claim, because it makes
no claim about what any tradition holds.
serengeti_plain_margin is an approach plain and a three-kilometre transit band into the gorge head at 10 m/vertex, rift_lakes_system is a compressed
lake-chain corridor of five staged shore segments, and the plain-margin vegetation is thorn scrub and
open grass with density low and the palette dust-gold [rift_valley.md:74, :76, :225-228]. The lake
chain runs from Turkana at 3.55°N in the arid north to the southern basins [rift_valley.md:158-160].
lake_eyasi_shore, juhoansi_camp and san_rock_art_panels are protected true [rift_valley.md:71-73], and the Eyasi beat is ruled to
contain NO TRANSACTION — nothing unlocked, nothing traded [rift_valley.md:820-824]. A taming
interaction staged on the Hadza's own shore would break that beat's design as well as its protection.
system, the north-south regional-form read along the lake corridor, the six tells, the harem ladder,
and the bond-lite hand-raised route with its never-a-mount ruling.
ONE-LINE SILHOUETTE READ: a striped body that dissolves into the herd at distance with a hard brush of
mane standing up off its back and one head always higher than the others.
REGISTER: REAL_FAUNA (TRUE_TO_LIFE), doctrine § 3D, and the refusal is easy on this row and is stated
anyway. Every folklore column is empty, the cultural cell is taxonomy, and the chapter rules
realistic-ethnographic for the fauna with mythologically-stylized reserved for the //gauwasi alone
[CH_10.md:223]. A supernatural zebra on the plain the deep-time descent crosses would be the
mirror-image of the Komodo defect § 3D exists to stop. Budget: A9 and A5 only, exactly as the register
declares.
THE REPLICA TEST DISCHARGES BY CONTRACT PLUS LADDER, per § 3D, and both are stated below.
THE LEGIBILITY CONTRACT — stated byte-identically on all three CH_10 plains-herd sheets. FOUR
CONFUSABLE PLAINS BODIES SHARE THIS CHAPTER — the eland (CR_0066), the blue wildebeest (CR_0065), the
zebra (CR_0064) and the African buffalo (CR_0067, whose body is FIXED at
BE_0010_S2_olduvai_fauna_guardian.md:78-102 and is discriminated against here by citation, never
re-designed) — so silhouette-first discrimination is this set's first design obligation. THE FINDERS:
the ELAND is found by ITS LEVEL TOPLINE OVER A SWINGING KEEL — the only body in the set whose back is
a flat horizontal line and whose underline is broken by a heavy pendulous dewlap that swings out of
phase with the walk; the BLUE WILDEBEEST is found by THE FALLING BACK — a topline that drops
continuously from a high maned withers to a low croup, so the animal reads DOWNHILL while standing
still — a fall the African buffalo's topline shares, which is why the fourth ambiguity case below
exists; the ZEBRA is found by THE ERECT MANE — a short hard brush
standing up off the topline, which is the one finder in the set that survives dust, because the stripe
field DISSOLVES a herd at distance rather than resolving it; the AFRICAN BUFFALO is found by THE HEAD
CARRIED BELOW THE SHOULDER LINE under a back highest at the withers, with a fused boss squared across
the forehead [BE_0010_S2_olduvai_fauna_guardian.md:100-102]. THE AMBIGUITY CASE, named rather than
assumed away: at black fill and combat-camera distance a mature eland bull and a mature buffalo bull
are both ox-massed, both horned and both standing broadside, and they resolve to the same read. THE
RESOLVER is TOPLINE-AND-DAYLIGHT — the buffalo's line rises to the withers and his head hangs below
it, the eland's line is level and his head is carried at or above it over a longer leg with daylight
under the belly. THE DEWLAP CONFIRMS; IT NEVER FINDS, because a mature buffalo carries loose throat
skin too. THE SECOND AMBIGUITY CASE is the young grain: an eland calf and a wildebeest calf are both
tan, both budding-horned and both plains-sized, and the SAME RESOLVER settles it on one line — level
back against falling back, checkable in black fill with no colour at all. THE BEARD CONFIRMS; IT NEVER
FINDS. THE THIRD AMBIGUITY CASE is the mixed herd, which is the set's commonest frame: zebra and
wildebeest stand in the same dust at the same shoulder height. THE RESOLVER is the mane — erect brush
against long hanging fringe — with the falling back confirming whenever the topline is in frame.
COLOUR CONFIRMS; IT NEVER FINDS, because dust greys every body in this chapter's hard light. THE
FOURTH AMBIGUITY CASE is the one this contract's own wording creates, and it is stated rather than
smoothed away: the buffalo's back is ALSO highest at the withers and therefore also falls, so a
falling topline does not on its own separate him from the wildebeest. THE RESOLVER IS MASS AND CROWN,
checked in that order — the buffalo is an ox carrying roughly twice the wildebeest's mass and wears a
FUSED HORN BOSS squared right across the forehead, while the wildebeest is a mid-mass body whose horns
leave a BARE CROWN between them and whose throat carries a beard. HEAD HEIGHT CONFIRMS; IT NEVER FINDS
— the wildebeest carries its head about at the shoulder line and the buffalo carries his BELOW it, and
at range that difference is a judgement while the boss is a shape. THE TWO
NON-CONFUSABLE LARGE BODIES ARE DISCRIMINATED BY CLASS FACT AND NEED NO TEST: the GIRAFFE (CR_0063,
*Giraffa camelopardalis*) carries a neck that alone exceeds the whole standing height of every body in
this set, and the AFRICAN BUSH ELEPHANT (CR_0062, *Loxodonta africana*, trophic_role keystone) is
the only body in the chapter with a ground-reaching fifth appendage off the head and columnar
graviportal legs [T0_Creature_Roster @ CR_0063, @ CR_0062]. Neither is ever a resolver for the four
above, and neither needs one.
PRIMARY — A9 THE MARK, spent as HERD-GRAIN READ. Three features, ranked, and only the first FINDS:
poll to withers, unique in this chapter's plains set — every other body here carries either a hanging
fringe, a hump, or nothing. MECHANISM: real equid mane structure on a wild equid that has never been
bred for a falling one. At black fill it is a serrated edge on the top of the silhouette, and it is
the only finder in the set that dust does not take away.
the design's central and deliberately counter-intuitive claim. Close up, an individual's stripe field
is unique and permanent and reads as identity. At two hundred metres in dust, a group of striped
bodies stops resolving into animals at all and becomes one moving mass with no countable edges. THAT
IS THE MECHANIC, not a texture note: the herd is legible as a HERD and illegible as INDIVIDUALS, and
a hunter working the plain cannot tell how many bodies are between them and the wind. The stripe
field therefore never FINDS the species at range; the mane does.
inside against a dark back — at range they are two bright marks that TURN, and a player learns to
read the turn before they can read the animal.
SUPPORTING — A5 AGE AND STATE, spent as REGIONAL FORMS AND THE HAREM LADDER. These are the states a
photograph of the species-typical animal does not contain.
*EQUUS QUAGGA*, the southern grass form: broad stripes that WRAP THE BELLY and meet underneath,
faint brown SHADOW STRIPES between the black ones on southern individuals, a shorter deeper head, and
a social unit of stallion-and-mares standing inside a much larger mixed aggregation. *EQUUS GREVYI*,
the arid northern form: narrow close-set stripes, a PURE WHITE UNSTRIPED BELLY, very large rounded
ears, a long narrow head, and no permanent harem — a territorial stallion with fluid groups crossing
his ground. THE INTERNAL RESOLVER, because these two must also read apart: THE BELLY. Striped belly
is *quagga*, white belly is *grevyi*, and it is checkable in one glance at any angle that shows the
underline. THE EAR CONFIRMS; IT NEVER FINDS, because ear size is a comparison and the belly is not.
Turkana at 3.55°N in the arid north through the southern basins as one compressed traversable
corridor of five staged shore segments [rift_valley.md:74, :158-171]. Placing the arid-country form
toward the northern segments and the grass form toward the southern is this sheet's inference from
that geography, not a canon statement about either species. Its payoff is that the corridor's
compression becomes VISIBLE: the player walking the chain sees the stripes narrow and the bellies go
white, and the traversal reads as distance covered without a single line of dialogue.
long for it; a yearling's stripes darken; a mature stallion carries scarring on the neck and shoulder
where other stallions have bitten him, and the OLDEST STALLION IN A GROUP IS THE MOST BITTEN ANIMAL
IN IT. Group structure is therefore legible with no UI element at all.
lake crossing, and the mud line that says which of the five shore segments an animal came from.
EMISSION: NONE. The body reads by scattering off a dust-matt coat, by the wetting-darkening of a
crossed shoreline, by the pale ear interiors catching the plain's own hard light, and by occlusion. The
glow test passes deliberately and vacuously.
a small secondary solve — it bends with the neck and it does NOT flow, because a mane that flows
turns the sheet's one finder into a horse.
their drive is an ATTENTION channel rather than an animation flourish: they point at what the animal
is attending to, and § 6's whole sentinel mechanic reads off them. This is the cheapest piece of
agency in the chapter.
authored sets rather than a slider between them — a blend of the two would produce an animal that is
neither species and would fail the internal belly resolver.
strand, because an equid tail that behaves like a horse's full dock is the wrong animal again.
bound with the stifle-hock reciprocal coupling driving both segments as one unit, which is why it is
faster than it looks and why a rig that animates the two joints independently will produce a kick no
equid can throw.
THIS CREATURE IS NOT FOUGHT AT CH 10, AND THE SHEET SAYS SO AFFIRMATIVELY. combat_permission is
EMPTY where CR_0066's is PERMITTED, rng_drop_anchor is EMPTY, there is no boss row, and the L11 ruled
state carries combat_facing FALSE. What the row DOES stage is the thing this chapter needs more than
another fight: A PUBLISHED-WARNING SYSTEM.
THE PART ECONOMY'S HOME IS NONE, DECLARED AFFIRMATIVELY. There is no plate, no boss, no crust and no
breakable region on this body, and inventing one would be the elevation § 4 refused. The currency of
every encounter with this animal is INFORMATION — what the herd knows, and whether it has told the
plain about the player yet.
THE JOB, and it is why the row is worth a sheet. THE ZEBRA IS THE PLAIN'S ALARM. It stands in the same
grass as the eland and the wildebeest, its head is higher than theirs, its ears move constantly, and
when it publishes, EVERY body on the plain leaves — including the one the player was three hours into
stalking. This is the chapter's only ambient body that can lose the player a hunt without ever being
touched, and it is the real opponent in CR_0066_eland.md § 6's approach.

NO SHAPE CARRIES TWO ANSWERS. The alarm ladder is separated by which channel is spending — ears,
posture, voice — and the two stallion shapes are separated by whether the head is UP or DOWN, which is
readable in black fill. THE CROSS-CREATURE LESSON IS NAMED: on this plain, head-up-and-still means
assessment and head-down-and-flat means intent, and it is the same pair a player will meet again on the
buffalo at BE_0010_S2 with the polarity reversed — a buffalo's head DOWN and planted means meet it.
Teaching the same two body facts twice with different answers is the chapter's one deliberate
cross-creature contrast, and this sheet names it so the animation lane protects both.
ESCALATION, WHICH IS AN INFORMATION LADDER RATHER THAN A PHASE. POSTURE — grazing, to one head up, to
every head up. BREATH — the visible flank pump on a group that has already run once, which tells the
player this herd is spent and will publish sooner. VOCALIZATION — the bark, which is the channel this
animal exists to spend. NEW OPENER — the wheel, which never appears until the group has decided the
player is close enough to matter.
THE OPENER AND ITS VARIANTS: the root is THE EARS TURN, the most legible and least costly thing in the
encounter. The head-up is the same attention with the neck added; the bark is the same attention
published; the wheel is the same attention with the group's whole shape spent on it.
THE BOND-LITE ROUTE, AND ITS RULING. trade_8_tameable reads TAME, and TAME means Chao Garden passive
companion tier: bond-lite bonding through Animal Communication at low threshold, a Beastiary entry
fillable through bond-lite interaction, no combat slot, no twelve-tier Hermetic bond mastery and no
legendary evolution [T3_Creatures_Tameable § 1.2 L98, § 1.3 L116, § 1.4 L122-L136]. THIS SHEET RULES THAT
BOND-LITE HERE IS NEVER A MOUNT, and the ruling is design rather than restriction: a wild equid that
lets a child stand beside it is a real and hard-won thing, and a wild equid that carries a rider is a
horse with stripes painted on — which is the same replica failure the doctrine was written to stop,
arriving from the opposite direction. The route is the hand-raised orphan foal: a foal separated at a
lake crossing, taken to a trade compound's Chao-tier garden, and grown there. It follows, it comes when
called, it stands watch — and the payoff is exactly the job above, because a bonded zebra in a compound
garden publishes when something enters the compound. The animal's function does not change when it is
bonded; only who it publishes FOR does.
its ears track the player constantly; at the middle band it grazes with its back to them, which is
the whole trust statement; at the last band it puts itself between them and the gate and barks first.
is the familiar and bond-lite one and appeal is a SHIP requirement there rather than a nicety: the
appeal is ONE STRONG IDEA and it is already the animal's — a body drawn in hard graphic stripes that
survives icon size better than anything else in this chapter, with two big pale-lined ears that carry
the whole expression an equid face can hold. The Chao register's own comparator is a creature that
visibly CHANGES as the bond deepens, and this one changes by turning its back — a striped animal
grazing with its rump to the player is a silhouette a player will read as trust at sixty pixels. No
feature is softened, rounded or infantilised to get there, which is the clause's own limit: appeal
never means flattening the real animal.

corpus attests none.
RELOCATION AND TURF, AN INFERENCE AND LABELLED AS ONE. The grass form's group is resident on a home
range and can be found in the same country twice; the arid form's stallion holds ground while the

plains ungulate standing beside a QUARRY row, and a big-game hunt on a zebra is normal play in the
genre. REFUSED ON THE CELLS: combat_permission is EMPTY where CR_0066's is PERMITTED,
rng_drop_anchor is EMPTY where CR_0066's carries DROP_BIGGAME_HIDE_MEAT, collect_verb is EMPTY
where CR_0066's reads DOCUMENT;FIGHT, the grade is TAME rather than QUARRY, and the L11 ruled state
carries combat_facing FALSE. The refusal is scope discipline rather than squeamishness, and it is
reversible by measurement: if a later canon pass lands a permission on this row, the hunt is BUILT
and the alarm ladder above is already written as its opposition.
(2) BOLD: SHOULD THE ELEVATION HAVE GONE FURTHER — a scale band, a vril response, a striped
supernatural? REFUSED on canon: style_register rules mythologically-stylized to the //gauwasi alone
[CH_10.md:223], and § 3D's budget names A1-A4 and A6-A8 as the signal that a sheet is in the wrong
register. The boldness was spent on the herd-dissolve mechanic and the two built regional forms
instead, which is where a real animal can carry it.
(3) TIMID: NOTHING WAS REDUCED. The kick is genuinely dangerous, the alarm genuinely costs the player
a hunt, and the bond-lite route is not softened into a pet that does nothing — it keeps the animal's
real job and merely changes who it works for.
