THE STAGING FORK, RULED BY THE DIRECTOR — ENGAGEMENT IS PLAYER-OPENED. The spine's boss block
reads "ambient threats: none beyond BE_0010_S2 — general Rift-Valley wildlife (fish eagle,
wildebeest, buffalo cohort) stays background per the region's fauna roster" [CH_10.md:97-98], and
trade_8_tameable DANGEROUS reaches scope as a body that threatens under RULING_7. The director has
ruled the fork and this sheet BUILDS THE RULING rather than boarding it
[DIRECTOR_RULING_L13, the lion fork]:
background state — it is present, it is audible, it is walked past. The spine's "ambient"
vocabulary IS the unscheduled background layer, so an unscheduled charge on a player who has done
nothing would violate it.
ATTACK — any strike or cast the player directs at any animal in the group. (2) ENTRY INTO A NAMED
CONTEST ENVELOPE, and the envelope's terms are declared here rather than left to a designer: THE
KILL IT IS HOLDING — the carcass and the ground within the pride's own feeding ring, the ring being
the space the animals themselves have cleared and are lying in; and THE SHADE LINE — the single
stand of thorn or rock the pride is lying up under through the day heat, whose envelope is the
shade's own edge as it falls on the ground. Both envelopes are things the player can SEE before
they are inside one, which is the condition that makes a player-opened rule fair.
charges, the wing, and the escalation. RULING_7's fight-and-tame grammar gets everything it ruled
in; what it does not get is a schedule.
player. It makes THE ENVELOPES LARGER — the feeding ring widens because the animals are working
rather than lying up, and the shade line is replaced by the water line — and it makes the animal
more assertive INSIDE engagement, which is § 6's four-channel escalation. A player who opens
nothing walks the plain at night and is not attacked.
So Ch 10 stages no second threat ENCOUNTER and this sheet builds none: no beat, no boss row, no
scripted trigger, no place in the chapter's encounter list. What the row keeps is its grade's own
combat-first entry fill — DANGEROUS, "cannot be tamed by standard protocol; the entry fills FIRST
through combat ... and alternatively through evasion documentation or a specific trade-mastery
non-combat approach" [T3_Creatures_Tameable:100] — armed behind an envelope the player crosses on
purpose.

caveat that says so lives at QUADRUPED.json's TOP-LEVEL unmeasured list, not inside the

the tail's tip inside the tuft, which is a real skeletal-adjacent structure the bucket's flat

reaches under its own power is smaller by an amount the sources do not separate [§ unmeasured].

folklore_behavior_substrate and folklore_attribution_source are both EMPTY, cultural_care_register is EMPTY, and
cultural_significance reads "savanna apex" — an ecological description and nothing else. There is
no tradition to cite because the row asserts none, and this sheet manufactures none for a chapter
whose whole care problem is that the corpus attests almost nothing.
T3_Creatures_Tameable § 5 Ch 10:459 gives the ELAND — "n/um-carrier sacred in San tradition
(anticipates Ch 13 eland canon). Keystone species. CVD §6 application" — and § 4.1:228 routes eland
entries to Ch 13 South Africa against the /Xam primary-source corpus. The lion carries none of
that, and the discrimination is the point: the chapter's sacred fauna is a different animal in a
different chapter, and inventing a San lion register here would be the fabrication the region page
exists to refuse.

biology, which the same doc licenses by name: "Leucism — partial or total loss of pigmentation;
vertebrate cross-species. Appearance: white or pale morph retaining eye color (contrast to
albinism which also affects eye pigmentation). Most common variant in the Beastiary"
[T3_Creatures_Tameable:179]. Occurrence is the framework's own sigma-bounded rate, roughly one
variant per 4,000 wild-spawn encounters, and the variant grants a documentation reward rather
than combat power [§ 2 L171, § 2.2 L189]. So the pale morph goes on the state ladder in § 4 as a
leucistic individual with retained eye pigment, and nothing about it is deferred.
HOME IS EMPTY. T1_IPW § 8.9.4 rules that "Canonical authority for folklore_behavior_substrate
routes through T8 region page Section 3 per-region authoring against regional folklore corpus"
[:477]. rift_valley.md § 3 carries no white-lion content, no Timbavati content and no southern
African folklore of any kind, and the page declares its own condition: "the corpus holds no
zoological source tagged to it" [:245-252]. A literal repo-wide search for "Timbavati" returns
the roster cell and the T3 catalog line and nothing else — that is the citation test's negative
control, and it reports an absence rather than a failed query. The Timbavati is southern-African
ground, which is the Ch-13 south_africa page's country, and rift_valley.md § 16 already
declares the mechanism for exactly this class: the Southern-San material "sits under a different
slug, san_khoisan, which the query layer maps to the region_id south_africa and therefore to
Ch 13", reached "as a declared CROSS-REGION reach rather than by widening its own filter"
[:934-940]. THE RULING: the morph's sacred register is a Ch-13-side region-page § 3 authoring
job, it is named here and boarded in § 9, and this sheet asserts nothing about what any tradition
holds about a white lion.
SRC_00186 is this region's one genuinely Rift-scopedrecord and it is a compiled popular biography of a twentieth-century archaeologist, useful for the
gorge's location and the excavation history and carrying nothing about any animal
[rift_valley.md:944-951]. The SRC_ machinery matches on this page; it simply reaches no lion.
clan holds ground, how a buffalo commits to a charge ... the encounter therefore rests on the
spine's verbs and the combat system's own grammar, and the readable-behaviour layer is an
acquisition target rather than an invention" [rift_valley.md:245-252]. Every ethological line in
§ 4 and § 6 is therefore marked AUTHORIAL_ANATOMY: general zoological knowledge carried as DESIGN,
never presented as a claim of any source this region holds. The acquisition is boarded in § 9.
folklore columns are empty, it stages no supernatural claim, and the chapter's care architecture
depends on the mundane world reading as real: CH_10's own asset anchor rules
"realistic-ethnographic for the /Xam, //Gwi, Ju|'hoansi, and Maasai peoples and the deep-time
strata; mythologically-stylized only for the //gauwasi sickness-shadow" [CH_10.md:223], and the
row's own mesh_tags.style reads realistic-ethnographic. A supernatural lion in the one chapter
whose entire adversary is a folklore being would be the Komodo defect inverted — a stylized animal
standing next to the only thing the chapter reserved styling for.
what the body is; it governs nothing about what the animal does.
THE LEGIBILITY CONTRACT — silhouette-first discrimination against every confusable neighbour in
CH_10, black-filled at the shipped combat camera. **SIX LARGE CARNIVORE BODIES SHARE THIS VALLEY'S
ROSTER, ACROSS THREE FAMILIES**: three FELIDS — CR_0056 lion, CR_0057 cheetah, CR_0058 leopard; one
HYAENID — CR_0059 spotted hyena; and two CANIDS — CR_0061 African wild dog and CR_0051 Ethiopian
wolf, the second of which is the bonded familiar Desta. THIS SHEET OWNS THE FELID CASES AND THE
FELID-AGAINST-HYAENID CASE. The two canid cases and the canid-against-hyaenid case are the CR_0061
sheet's, whose three-way contract is written there and is cited rather than re-derived here
[CR_0061_african_wild_dog.md § 4]. THE FINDERS, ranked, and only the first two FIND:
thin line and terminates in a discrete dark blob. No other African cat carries one: a leopard's
tail is as long as its body, carried in a curl, and pale underneath to the tip; a cheetah's ends
flat, banded and spatulate. In black fill the lion is the only animal in the set whose line ends in
a full stop. MECHANISM: a horny terminal spur inside a hair tuft, real architecture on both sexes
(AUTHORIAL_ANATOMY — the bucket carries a flat caudal count and no terminal structure).
front third of the horizontal is a taller mass than the hindquarter — the only large predator in
this valley whose FRONT is higher than its back. The spotted hyena is the near-miss and it inverts:
its "wedge slop[es] down from shoulder to hip" with "forelimbs longer than the hind"
[BE_0010_S2_olduvai_fauna_guardian.md:111, :120-122], so at black fill the hyena is a wedge falling
BACKWARD from a bony shoulder and the maned lion is a wedge falling backward from a soft head-mass
that continues down the chest. THE RESOLVER when the two collapse: the tuft, and the topline behind
the mass — the hyena's back keeps falling, the lion's goes flat.
and no bands, which separates it from the leopard and the cheetah the moment there is light — but

flank and belly spotting for its first two years, so a young lion and a small leopard resolve to
the same read at colour-only range. THE RESOLVER is the tail: the young lion's already ends in a
tuft and is carried short and low, the leopard's is body-length, curled and white-tipped. The
topline check confirms.
in grass with the head down and the tail still has no finder in frame at all. THE DESIGN RULE is
that the tail tip is ALWAYS the last thing to go still — a resting lion's tuft twitches on a slow
irregular beat, which is real and which keeps one finder alive in every idle the animal has.
zebra CR_0064, the African buffalo CR_0067, the giraffe CR_0063 and the African bush elephant
CR_0062, all of them authored by another lane or by a landed sheet and discriminated here BY
CITATION rather than re-designed. Their own contracts name their finders and this sheet adopts them
rather than restating them: the ELAND by A LEVEL TOPLINE OVER A SWINGING KEEL, the BLUE WILDEBEEST
by THE FALLING BACK, the ZEBRA by THE ERECT MANE, the AFRICAN BUFFALO by THE HEAD CARRIED BELOW THE
SHOULDER LINE under a back highest at the withers, and the ELEPHANT by THE MASS ITSELF
[CR_0066_eland.md:202-211; BE_0010_S2_olduvai_fauna_guardian.md:100-102;
CR_0062_african_bush_elephant.md:204-206]. **BY CLASS FACT, which closes the whole cross-set line in
one sentence: every one of those bodies is an ungulate or a proboscidean standing TALL on
column-straight unguligrade or graviportal legs, so all of them read as MASS ABOVE DAYLIGHT — a deep
band of open ground under the belly, running the animal's whole length.** This body is the inverse:
a LOW HORIZONTAL carried on flexed digitigrade limbs, with the belly line close to the grass and
almost no daylight under it. Belly height against leg length separates the carnivore set from the
herbivore set before any finder inside either set is read, and the one case worth naming is the
down case — a lion lying flat and a buffalo lying down both read as a long low dark horizontal,
resolved by the tuft and by the buffalo's boss-and-horn head profile.
THE STATE LADDER — A5 age and state, and these are the states a species-typical photograph does not
contain (AUTHORIAL_ANATOMY throughout, per § 3's sourcing gap):
prime male carries a full dark mane that continues down the chest and behind the elbows; an old
male's mane thins and goes ragged at the crown. Mane extent and darkness track age and condition,
so the pride's ranking is legible at a glance with no UI element: the darkest, widest front in the
group is the one that will come.
with one or two attached males and it holds ground. A COALITION is two to four males travelling
together with no females, scarred and looking for ground to take. A NOMAD is one, thin, and it is
the most dangerous of the three because it is hungry and has nothing to lose. Same species, three
entirely different encounters, and the player reads which one they are in from count and mane
alone.
forelegs; a lion two days off one is flat-bellied and attentive. This is the difference between an
animal that will let a player walk past and one that will not, and it is entirely material.
canine, porcupine quills healed into the muzzle, and a tail tuft worn thin.
dark skin at the nose leather and the lip margins, with the eye pigment RETAINED — this is leucism
and not albinism, and the table's own taxonomy makes the distinction load-bearing
[T3_Creatures_Tameable:179]. A pale mane on a pale animal loses the topline inversion in bright
light, so the design keeps the tuft and the mane's SHAPE as the reads and lets the colour go.
PRIMARY — A9 THE MARK, spent as SILHOUETTE LAW: the mane, and the topline inversion it produces.
MECHANISM: a real pelage system with a real cost, and the cost is the design. The mane is a heat load
and a visibility cost on an animal that hunts in open ground, which is why the mane-bearer is not the
hunter in this species — the females drive and take, and the male's job is to hold the ground and to
be seen holding it. That single fact reorganises the whole encounter in § 6, and it reads at any
distance because it is a change in the animal's outline rather than a marking on its skin.
ONE-LINE READ: a tawny cat whose front is taller than its back, with a tail that ends in a black blob.
THE JOB, and it is why the row is worth a sheet. THE LION IS THIS CHAPTER'S LINE YOU CAN SEE. The
chapter's own premise is a rest — "after a run of chapters spent hiding among people, the valley
offers something the protagonist did not know they needed — a place with no one to hide from"
[CH_10.md:25]. That is true and it is about PEOPLE. The lion is the honest counterweight that keeps
the rest from becoming an empty map, and under the ruling it is a counterweight of a specific and
better kind: not a thing that comes for you, but a piece of ground you can watch and choose. There is
nobody to hide from in this valley and there is still one place in it you do not walk into. The plain
the player crosses to reach the gorge head carries ambient_threat moderate and `functions traversal,
combat [rift_valley.md:76], and its grammar row EG_0137` is a COVER class with
ambient_state_gift fuel:flammable, attack_verbs D2_IGNITE and enemy_usable TRUE, armed on
purpose as the anti-conservatism half of that row's own care check. That is the ground the envelopes
sit on and the fuel the answer is made from — and the reason the encounter is a DECISION rather than
an ambush is that the player can hear where the envelope is (the roar) and see its edge (the ring,
the shade) before they are anywhere near it.
EMISSION: none. The animal reads by being lit — a low sun through a mane's guard hairs, the flat
retinal sheen of an eye catching a fire already in the scene, and wetting-darkening after rain.
additions to the body.
layered hair with a declared wind and motion response, and its extent, colour and raggedness are
the driven parameters of the age ladder above. It changes ROM nowhere and it changes the READ at
every distance, which is exactly the trade the register is for.
tail carry the spur and the hair mass, and they are driven on an idle twitch clock independent of
the tail's own sway, so the finder survives every pose the animal has including full rest.
the sheathed state is why this animal is SILENT on the plain — a real fact with an audio
consequence, and the reason the encounter's first tell in § 6 arrives by ear from a kilometre away
and the second arrives with no sound at all.
mane system carrying the rest of the difference.
NO BOSS ROW EXISTS AND NONE IS ASKED FOR. combat_facing is FALSE on the ruled state, CH_10.md:98
stages no second threat encounter, and the chapter's combat routes are fixed: "combat routes only
against non-human presences — the //gauwasi death-spirit shadow the tradition itself battles,
permitted fauna, and the protagonist's own astral trial — never the /Xam, //Gwi, or Ju|'hoansi
peoples" [CH_10.md:59; :204; T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0003]. Permitted fauna is the lane this row sits
in. The encounter verbs are therefore taken from the row's own grade rather than from a boss row.
**EVERYTHING BELOW IS INSIDE ENGAGEMENT, AND ENGAGEMENT IS PLAYER-OPENED PER THE DIRECTOR'S RULING
(§ 1, DIRECTOR_RULING_L13, the lion fork).** The animal never initiates on an unengaged player;
the player opens by attacking, or by crossing into the feeding ring around a kill the pride is
holding or the shade line the pride is lying up under. Both envelopes are visible from outside. THE
MOMENT ONE IS CROSSED, EVERYTHING IN THIS BLOCK IS LIVE AT FULL WEIGHT AND NOTHING IN IT IS SOFTENED
— both lethal charges, the wing, and the four-channel escalation. The tells below are therefore not a
warning system bolted onto an ambush; they are the animal answering a decision the player made,
which is the same structural idea BE_0010_S2 already carries on the chapter's one staged encounter
[BE_0010_S2_olduvai_fauna_guardian.md:275-277].
PART ECONOMY HOME: SURFACES, held on the ARENA rather than on the body, declared by name per
doctrine § 2.4. There is nothing to break on a lion. What there is instead is a set of APPROACH LANES
between the player's own ground and the envelope, closed one at a time by the player BEFORE anything
is opened: a fire lit on EG_0137's own fuel:flammable gift, a thorn line cut from the same scrub
margin, high ground on the gorge rim bench, and the gorge's own narrows at EG_0136 (CONSTRICTION,
enemy_usable TRUE). The three currencies hold — a closed lane is a PERMANENT SUBTRACTION from the
animal's live openers that night; each closure is a LEGIBILITY GAIN because the approach narrows and
the tell reads earlier;
and the MATERIAL the economy wants is the player's own fuel, thorn and hours, which the night spends.
This is the CR_0024 precedent and § 9 carries that sheet's standing doctrine finding about it rather
than re-raising it.
| tell shape | body origin | the one answer | counter class worn on the body |
|---|---|---|---|
| THE ROAR AT DISTANCE (the free lesson, and THE ONLY ROW IN THIS TABLE THAT PLAYS OUTSIDE ENGAGEMENT) | the whole chest and the mane-bearer's throat, standing, head level, delivered as a series and answered by another one somewhere else | none is needed and none is possible — this is an occupancy announcement and it is a NAVIGATION INSTRUMENT: it tells the player where the ground is taken and, by its absence, where it is not. It is the background layer L98 names, and it is how a player learns where the envelopes are before crossing one | the free lesson |
| THE GRASS THAT IS WRONG | nothing visible — a patch of the grass line that does not move with the wind, because a body is lying in it with the head down | stop and face it; do not walk the line you were walking | negative-space read |
| THE WING | a SECOND animal moving wide and low on the flank while the first holds the eye — the females drive and the wings take | never turn to the one you can see. Put a fire, a thorn line or a rock wall where the wing has to arrive from, and the answer is positional rather than reactive | positional |
| THE LOUD CHARGE | head UP, mouth open, full voice, feet travelling and stopping short of contact | hold ground and face it. It is a demand that you leave and it is not going to touch you | stand |
| THE SILENT CHARGE | head DOWN at or below the shoulder line, no voice at all, hindquarters loaded and the whole mass committed | the fire or the thorn — nothing about a player's body meets this and nothing about their footwork outruns it | elemental-neutralize / cover, the fire gathered from EG_0137's own fuel and visibly in frame |
| THE HOLD ON A KILL | the pride down on a carcass, heads up, nobody moving | the kill is the line, and the line is closed. Take another one; nothing the player does from here opens this one | positional |
NO SHAPE CARRIES TWO ANSWERS, and the two charges are separated by ONE fact the player can hear:
THE SILENT ONE IS THE REAL ONE. That is the whole lesson and it is one sentence long.
THE CROSS-CREATURE LESSON, NAMED, because it deliberately inverts the one the chapter's own guardian
teaches. BE_0010_S2 rules that on the buffalo "head-down-and-planted means meet it,
head-up-and-travelling means take the ground away" [BE_0010_S2_olduvai_fauna_guardian.md:298-300].
The lion runs the opposite way on the same head axis, and the sheet does not pretend otherwise: on
the CAT, head-down is the commit and head-up is the bluff. The discriminating CHANNEL is therefore
species-specific and is stated as the lesson — on the bovid, read the FEET; on the cat, read the
VOICE. The chapter teaches the bovid first, at a staged beat with a forgiving ramp, and the cat is
where the player finds out that a tell's channel belongs to the animal and not to the pose.
THE ESCALATION, ON THE FOUR CHANNELS, and it is ASSERTIVENESS INSIDE ENGAGEMENT rather than a phase.
THE NIGHT SETS THE STARTING RUNG, IT DOES NOT PULL THE TRIGGER — per the ruling, dark widens the
envelopes (the feeding ring opens because the animals are working rather than lying up, and the shade
line is replaced by the water line) and it raises how hard the animal presses ONCE THE PLAYER HAS
OPENED. A player who opens nothing crosses the plain at night and is not attacked. POSTURE — the
animals stop lying and start sitting up, and the sitting shape is a different silhouette from the
lying one. BREATH — the panting that carries in the day heat stops, and a big cat that has stopped
panting has stopped resting. VOCALIZATION — the roaring series stops, which is the most legible
escalation in the chapter because the instrument the player has been navigating by goes quiet and
they now do not know where the envelope's edge is. NEW OPENER — THE WING appears, which is
a move that requires two animals and therefore cannot happen at all until the pride is up.
THE OPENER AND ITS VARIANTS: the root is THE GRASS THAT IS WRONG — the most legible and least
punishing thing in the set, because it costs nothing to obey and teaches the whole encounter. Its
variants share the origin and lengthen from it: THE WING is the same stillness with a second animal
added; THE LOUD CHARGE is the stillness spent upward and forward at voice; THE SILENT CHARGE is the
stillness spent with the voice withheld. Teaching order is see it, count it, hear it, and then hear
nothing.
THE TAME HALF OF RULING_7, BUILT, AND ITS TIER GATE NAMED HONESTLY. The DANGEROUS grade carries three
routes and the fight is only the first [T3_Creatures_Tameable:100, :120]:
seven-non-combat-observation chain is the canonical completionist benchmark [§ 1.3 L114, L120].
THIS IS THE ROUTE THAT IS IN TIER AT CH 10 and it is the chapter's honest primary: a child of
eleven documenting a pride from the gorge rim bench is exactly this chapter's register.
Trickery misdirection at Trade 8 mastery, and Animal Communication species-level request behaviour
at Trade 1 canonical mastery [§ 1.3 L120]. § 1.5 L149 gates a mid-tier mammal's Animal
Communication response at "Theoricus through Practicus". CH_10.md:233 records a per-capability
Neophyte FLOOR with the ability tree reaching Theoricus at A_E_007, and states no trade tier at
all. WHETHER TRADE 1 HAS REACHED THEORICUS BY CH 10 IS NOT SOMETHING CANON SAYS, so this sheet
designs the route and names its gate rather than asserting either way. § 9 boards it.
tracking, approach into the wind under the species' own alert behaviour, the kill with the weapon
and element the animal's hide and mass actually answer to, field-dressing into hide, meat, sinew
and trophy, and the consequence that "the range thins, the predator that fed on it moves, and the
community that shares the range remembers who took what" — to "QUARRY-status species and PERMITTED
DANGEROUS-status species". This row is DANGEROUS with combat_permission EMPTY. The loop's shape
is written above in the tracking and approach reads; its licence lands the moment that cell reads
PERMITTED, which is the exact configuration CR_0024 carries and builds on. Designing it and naming
the gate is the honest move; asserting it would be a fabrication and refusing to design it would be
the timid error the calibration names. § 9 boards the cell.
RELOCATION AND TURF. The pride holds a range and a water line rather than a room, and under the
ruling the turf IS the encounter's trigger geometry: the envelope moves with the animals through the
day — shade line by afternoon, feeding ring wherever the night's kill fell, water line before dawn —
so a player who learned where it was yesterday has to look again today. It does not ENTER the
player's night; the player enters its ring. It BREAKS OFF and returns to the carcass rather than
pursuing far, and it does not follow into the gorge, whose narrows beat a coursing animal exactly as
they beat the buffalo's turning arc [EG_0136, CONSTRICTION]. What it does to the arena is put one
moving piece of it off limits, which is a resident's behaviour and not a set piece's.
ORDINARY_FAUNA carries no collective claim at all, hunting a game animal touches nothing of the
collective protection, and a lane must not re-apply collective protection to game animals. The
chapter's § 17.1 protection is about the Hadza, the Sandawe, the Maasai, the /Xam, the //Gwi and the
Ju|'hoansi, all of whom are teaching presences and none of whom is anywhere near a target position
[CH_10.md:59, :204; rift_valley.md:367-372]. Nothing in this sheet puts a person in frame as a
target, and the lion's whole encounter happens on ground the Zone Catalog marks protected false
[rift_valley.md:70, :76].
RECORDED PRECISELY. @ CR_0056 :: cultural_care_register is EMPTY, so nothing on this row asserts
a care register at all. The most worked statement of WHY the CVD-§6-as-fauna-protection reading is
wrong lives on a neighbouring row and governs that row, not this one — it is cited here as a
READING OF CVD §6 rather than as a rule inherited across rows.
@ CR_0072 :: cultural_care_register, quoted rather than paraphrased: "the
CVD-§6-as-fauna-protection reading is VOID: CVD §6 read in full (L266-315) is the CULTURAL
DEPICTION STANDARD and it is about PEOPLE ... A full-document grep for hunt/fauna/animal/OBSERVE
returns no prohibition, and the only hits argue the other way ('encounter a mythological creature
as REAL FAUNA'). Where a real in-world prohibition exists it is expressed as a WORLD rule with a
consequence — a precinct where killing carries a standing and integrity hit and the community
reacts — never as an engine-level untargetable flag." The reading is persuasive on CVD §6's own
text and this sheet adopts the READING; it does not import the CELL.
ontology_class is EMPTY on this row. The sheet treats it as ordinary fauna, doesnot write the cell, and boards the blank. Derivation of the ontology cell is DERIVED_NOT_LANDED
behind FORK 7 by the L6 ruling and this sheet does not pre-empt it
[build/3d/characters/mesh_routing/MESH_ROUTING_DERIVATION_L6.json:14 — "VERDICT":
"DERIVED_NOT_LANDED -- FORK_7_BRIEF_PREPARED"].
T3_Creatures_Tameable § 4.1:230 namesthe chapters whose community-and-species relationship establishes the protected register — Ch 11

from cultural_depiction_compliance, consistency_risk_tier and the four boss rows together
[rift_valley.md:29-37], and it states in terms that the column value marks "a zone with no
living-community or sacred surface of its own ... it is never a relaxation of the chapter's
register" [:97-104]. The BE_0010_S2 sheet already refused the same inflation on the same ground and
this sheet holds the refusal.
the doctrine's founding defect, for the same reason BE_0010_S2 names on itself. The subject is real
African megafauna and the style cell reads realistic-ethnographic, which is one careless prompt
away from the anatomically-accurate-photographic-wildlife brief that produced a documentary lizard.
The plate's judging question is whether the animal in it reads as a DESIGNED INDIVIDUAL carrying a
named mane band, a named group state and a named history, or as wildlife reference.
(1) IS THE REAL_FAUNA REGISTER A DEFANG ON AN APEX PREDATOR? Examined and RULED NO. The register
governs ELEVATION and nothing else — doctrine § 3D states that every other test binds unchanged.
The chapter's own style cell reserves stylization for the //gauwasi alone [CH_10.md:223], the row's
folklore columns are empty, and a supernatural lion would be elevation AGAINST canon, which § 3D
was ratified to stop. The boldness went to the fight instead: two lethal charge shapes, a
cooperative second attacker, a night the map changes in, and a hunt loop designed to its licence
gate.
(2) IS THE PLAYER-OPENED RULING ITSELF A DEFANG? Examined and RULED NO, and this is the pass the
director's ruling most needs recorded. The devil's-advocate reading is that a predator that never
initiates is a predator on a leash. It fails on what the ruling actually does: it removes the
SCHEDULE and keeps the TEETH. Nothing inside engagement is softened — both charges, the wing, the
escalation and the kill are all live at full weight — and the encounter gains something an ambush
never has, which is a decision the player owns and can be wrong about. The alternative the ruling
refuses is the one that WOULD have been the defect: a scheduled night charge on an unengaged player
contradicts CH_10.md:97-98's own "ambient / stays background" vocabulary, and buying a thrill with a
canon contradiction is not boldness. Cutting the fight entirely was also examined and refused: it
would make a DANGEROUS apex predator into scenery, which fails the agency test on exactly the thing
Josh named.
(3) SHOULD THE PRIDE HAVE BEEN MADE TO FLEE THE PLAYER? REFUSED. A pride on a kill does not yield
to a child, the silent charge is real and it can kill the player, and an animal that always yields
is the defang tell the doctrine names as hiding in staging rather than in content.
(4) SHOULD THE HUNT LOOP HAVE BEEN OMITTED BECAUSE A LION IS CHARISMATIC MEGAFAUNA? REFUSED — that
is precisely the over-conservative reflex the calibration names, and CR_0024 already paid for this
lesson once. The loop is designed at full weight with the consequence attached rather than the
content removed; only its licence cell is missing, and that is a data gap reported as one.
four-channel night escalation, the opener-and-variants tree, the closed-lane surface economy, the
three group states, the mane-and-fed-band ladders, the tuft's idle-twitch rule and the leucistic
morph's silhouette handling are INVENTED BY THIS SHEET as the game's own. The DANGEROUS grade and
its three routes, the hunt loop's five stages and its consequence sentence, the seven-observation
benchmark, the leucism taxonomy, the sigma-bounded variant rate, the T1_IPW §8.9.4 routing, the
protected-register chapter list and the savanna-apex role are CITED. The skeleton, joint bounds,
gait formalism and rig conformance are DERIVED from QUADRUPED.json and are BOUNDS rather than felid
measurements. The tail spur, the jaw gape, the claw excursion, the mane as a pelage system and the
sexual size difference are inline AUTHORIAL_ANATOMY on the bucket's declared silences.
and the observation-chain entries, and they name a species, a place and a group state — no House of
Velheim name, family or pattern, no reveal figure, and the Grand Sage dark. None could appear:

Written affirmatively. Every line names what IS in frame.
light, the mane dark and continuing down the chest and behind the elbows, the topline flat behind
it, the tail hanging with the black tuft clear of the grass.
heavy square muzzle, level topline, the tuft the only dark point on the animal.
prime dark-maned male, an old male with a ragged thinning crown, and a scarred coalition male with
a broken upper canine.
the same ground; and a single flat-bellied nomad, all three at one scale in one sheet.
grass beyond it lit only by the fire, and two low tawny shapes at the edge of the light on
different sides of the camp.
and the top line of a head just breaking that patch.
nose leather and lip margins, eye pigment retained, the tuft still the darkest point on the animal.
the loud charge and the silent charge at one scale, judged in black fill alone against the
BE_0010_S2 hyena's sloping wedge placed beside them.
CH_10.md:97-98 rules "ambient threats: none beyond BE_0010_S2 — general Rift-Valley wildlife ...
stays background", while RULING_7 rules this row IN SCOPE partly as "a body that threatens". The
director ruled PLAYER-OPENED ENGAGEMENT (DIRECTOR_RULING_L13, the lion fork): no initiation on an
unengaged player, two named player-side openers, full unsoftened grammar once opened, the night
read re-aimed onto envelope size and in-engagement assertiveness. § 1 declares the envelope terms
and § 6 builds the grammar behind them. NO OPEN QUESTION REMAINS ON THIS ITEM.
envelopes need to be authored surfaces the player can perceive from outside — the feeding ring as
cleared ground and lying bodies, the shade line as the shade's own edge — because a player-opened
rule whose envelope is invisible is an ambush with extra steps. T0_Environment_Grammar_Registry
has no envelope class today; the nearest existing shape is EG_0136's CONSTRICTION affordance.
@ CR_0056 :: combat_permission IS EMPTY on a DANGEROUS apex whose own grade definition fills theBeastiary entry FIRST through combat. CR_0024, the arc's other DANGEROUS apex cat, carries
PERMITTED. This one cell is the licence gate on the entire hunt loop designed in § 6.
@ CR_0056 :: rng_drop_anchor IS EMPTY while the grade's definition states that "a fought apexpredator yields its hide, claw or tusk at the drop table's rarity grades"
[T3_Creatures_Tameable:100]. CR_0024 carries DROP_BIGGAME_HIDE_MEAT. A fought apex with no anchor
produces nothing.
@ CR_0056 :: collect_verb IS EMPTY where CR_0024 carries DOCUMENT;FIGHT — the two verbs thissheet's two live routes need, on the row that has neither.
@ CR_0056 :: temperament_prior AND intelligence_tier ARE EMPTY. § 1.5 L149 gates non-familiarAnimal Communication response by intelligence tier and the column that would carry it is blank, so
the trade route in § 6 has no machine-readable gate.
rare_variant names a "folklore substrate" and T3_Creatures_Tameable:443 routes it "per T1_IPW §8.9.4"; § 8.9.4 routes canonical authority to
T8 region page Section 3; rift_valley.md § 3 holds nothing, and the Timbavati is southern-African
ground belonging to the Ch-13 south_africa page. The unblocking action is a Ch-13-side § 3
authoring pass and a cross-region declaration of the kind rift_valley.md:934-940 already models,
OR a folklore_behavior_substrate population on this row. Until then the morph is appearance-only.
@ CR_0056 :: chapters_present IS CH_10 ALONE while two of the grade's three canon routes aretrade-mastery routes the chapter's own Neophyte floor may not reach [CH_10.md:233;
T3_Creatures_Tameable:120, :149]. A DANGEROUS row anchored at one early chapter has no later
chapter in which to reach its own non-combat routes. CR_0061 beside it carries CH_10;CH_13.
@ CR_0056 :: ontology_class, hard_line_anchors, cultural_depiction_required, extinction_threat, integrity_visible_aesthetic_shift, vril_substrate_response,
familiar_slot_eligible, dex_completion_class, husbandry_breedable, height_m, length_axis,
primary_region_ids, spawn_rate and kit_ref ARE ALL EMPTY. extinction_threat is the notable
one: CR_0061 beside it carries T4 and CR_0051 carries T4, and the roster fills the column for two
of this chapter's carnivores and leaves the apex blank.
@ CR_0056 :: mesh_tags.material CARRIES THE CHAPTER PALETTE VERBATIM — "ochre and iron-oxide,rock-panel patina, deep-cut tuff, soda-lake pink" — which is the /Xam PANEL's material set
[CH_10.md:223] pasted onto a savanna cat. Rock-panel patina and soda-lake pink are wrong nouns for
this animal and a generator reading the cell is being fed the rock art. The same contamination
class is already boarded on CR_0143 for CH_05.
T0_Boss_Attack_Rail CARRIES 0 ROWS. Six tell shapes wait here with nowhere to land.Period — Hassan's Holocene palaeoclimate work and a Rift lakes limnology anchor"**
[rift_valley.md:1048-1050]. That is the item as the brief ranks it, and it is the reason every
behavioural line above is AUTHORIAL_ANATOMY [:245-252]. **A SCOPE WIDENING IS REQUESTED AND IT IS
THIS LANE'S OWN, NOT THE PAGE'S:** East African large-mammal BEHAVIOUR — pride structure, charge
commitment, cooperative hunting — is not inside the titled item, which is palaeoclimate and
limnology. The page states the behaviour gap in prose [:245-252] without carrying a behaviour title
in its ranked list, so this sheet asks the region lane to add one rather than reading the existing
item wider than it is written.
rift_valley.md § 18's five enumerated strata [:1120-1132] scope themodern window to the gorge RIM as a research overlay. Any later extinction-window read on savanna
