CR_0027 — the sun bear, the animal that opens things (THE TAME REGISTER)

CANON SUBORDINATION — this document is PROPOSAL-TIER: it serves canon and never outranks it.
The canon: the CVD · the T1 foundation docs · the T0 registries (registries/) · the spine
(docs/spine/CH_*.md) · the region pages (_source/02_Tier_2_Region_Pages/). Authority order: docs/DOC_MAP.md § 0.
Canon served (scanned from this document's own citations — widen it by hand where it is thin):

READ THAT CANON FIRST — open it and derive from it before you build anything from this document.
If this document disagrees with canon, CANON WINS and this document is the defect — fix the
document, never the canon. Nothing here is applied until it is ratified into canon.

STATUS: PROPOSAL-TIER design sheet, written to the TAME and familiar register of

every folklore column on this row is empty, no supernatural claim is staged on it anywhere, and the

chapter's care architecture rests on the begu ganjang, Naga Padoha and the krasue being the only

mythologically-stylized beings in it [CH_05.md:267].

THE ROW IS A CONTRADICTION UNTIL IT IS DESIGNED. A PREDATOR that is TAME, in mesh demand, and not

combat-facing. The contradiction resolves the moment the animal's real job is named: this is not a hunter

of people. It is the animal that BREAKS INTO THINGS — and the region page has already put the things on

the map. Rice-granary doors carved with the lizard emblem, bone and horn craft in the village craft

quarter, and herds moved along the caldera-rim corridor are all attested [sumatra_java.md:305-312, 359-364,

239-241]. A bear with the strongest opening apparatus in the forest, standing at a granary door, is a

real encounter with a real stake and no fight in it.

RE-DERIVED AGAINST THE ANATOMY REFERENCE TABLE, AND THE COVERAGE IS PARTIAL — STATED AFFIRMATIVELY.

build/3d/schema/anatomy_reference/QUADRUPED.json § sub_plans.carnivoran_digitigrade is the only

carnivoran sub-plan in the table, and its declared scope is "CR_0057 Cheetah (see census_defects),

generic canid/felid" against a *Canis lupus familiaris* reference taxon. NO BUCKET COVERS A PLANTIGRADE

URSID. This row is a caniform carnivoran with a fundamentally different distal limb posture from the

sub-plan's, so the table's joint ranges are carried here as BOUNDS with the substitution declared —

which is the same discipline the table itself applies when it transfers canine ranges to felids — and

everything about the plantigrade foot, the vertebral formula and the soft tissue is inline and labelled.

that matters here as much as it does on the tiger — THE CLAVICLE IS VESTIGIAL OR ABSENT and the

forelimb hangs in a MUSCULAR SLING, so the scapula translates on the ribcage rather than articulating

to it. Deform chain and the 34-bone minimum per the bucket's rig conformance.

vestigial caudal chain against the table's canid-derived 20-23; FIVE digits on the HINDfoot where the

sub-plan declares four, which is the ursid difference; long, strongly recurved, NON-retractile claws; a

short broad skull on a heavy neck; a tongue at roughly a fifth of the animal's standing height; and the

neck-and-shoulder hide, which is LOOSE and slides over the body wall.

free axis. The paw's ability to work a surface rather than only push it therefore rests on the

SCAPULOTHORACIC excursion and the carpus's enormous 32-196 range, not on an invented forearm rotation.

living tradition's protective emblem. THE RAID STAYS AND THE PANEL SURVIVES. The bear breaks the door

FRAME and the lashings — the timber, the pegs, the cord, the things that hold a granary shut — and the

carved Boraspati ni Tano panel comes off whole and is RE-HUNG by the village, which is what a household

does with a house-emblem after a break-in. Mechanically the panel is a non-breakable member inside a

breakable assembly, and the re-hanging is a visible repair state on the rebuilt door. THE TOOL IS

REFRAME, NEVER REMOVAL: nothing is deleted from the encounter, the loss is still real, and the emblem

the record actually attests is not the thing an animal is shown destroying.

and is declared as ours in § 7.

4. elevation

ONE-LINE SILHOUETTE READ: a small black bear braced flat against a door it is opening, a pale crescent on

its chest, glossed along the forearms with the last thing it got into.

REGISTER: REAL_FAUNA (TRUE_TO_LIFE), doctrine § 3D, and the conversion is deliberate. This sheet's first

issue spent A4 HYPERTROPHY and built the forelimb "out past the real animal until the silhouette reads

forelimb-first." That was elevation against canon on a row canon holds mundane — the exact second failure

mode § 3D was ratified to stop — and the register's budget names A1-A4 as the signal that a sheet is in

the wrong register. The departure is WITHDRAWN. The real *Helarctos malayanus* is already the most

extreme opening apparatus in this forest and needs nothing added; the design's whole job is to make the

true-to-life animal READ. Budget: A5 and A9 only.

THE REPLICA TEST DISCHARGES BY CONTRACT AND LADDER, per § 3D.

LEGIBILITY CONTRACT — silhouette-first discrimination against every confusable neighbour in CH_05, at

sixty pixels, black-filled:

whose limbs read heavy and forward; the tiger is a LONG horizontal whose head hangs below its shoulder

line and whose tail is a third line. Length-to-height is the discriminator and it survives any lighting.

as long as its body and the bear has effectively none.

and an upright hominoid share an outline. The bipedal stand is therefore always played with the

forelimbs hanging loose and clear of the trunk, never raised, so the silhouette keeps four distinct

limb lines.

STATE LADDER — the states a photograph of the species-typical animal does not contain:

two wear states say which food this individual has been living on.

PRIMARY — A5 AGE AND STATE. The animal is unmodified and its HISTORY is the design. The loose

neck-and-shoulder hide is a recording surface: scarred where things have gripped it, glossed where it has

pushed through what it opened, and the claws carry their own wear ladder. What the first issue tried to

say with added mass, the true-to-life animal says with what it has been doing.

MECHANISM: deposition and wear on a body that already carries the tools. Nothing supernatural is claimed

and none is needed. THE TONGUE IS A DEPLOYED STRUCTURE, not a texture — it extends visibly into a gap and

holds there, and at true-to-life proportion it is still a tell no other creature in the game owns. The

hindquarter is genuinely small and the bite genuinely unimpressive for a bear, and the design states that

plainly rather than correcting it: this is not a killer of large things, which is exactly why the row is

not combat-facing and why that is not a softening.

SUPPORTING — A9 THE MARK: the chest crescent, and it carries the record. The crescent is a genuine

per-individual marking with no two alike (AUTHORIAL_ANATOMY), and it sits at the exact height a standing

bear presents to a person, which makes it the identifying feature at any distance in any light. Its

MECHANISM is that the loose hide beneath and around it is a recording surface: it is scarred where things

have gripped it, and it carries a dark gloss of wax and resin along the chest and forearms from what the

animal has last opened. THE BOND BAND IS READ ON THE MARK — a fed bear's crescent is clean and held

forward; a raiding bear's crescent is smeared with the last thing it took. One mark, two states, no HUD.

EMISSION: none. The coat is short, dense and near-black and reads by specular sheen under a torch or a

low sun, and by the wet darkening of rain.

5. articulation_delta

130-degree elbow restriction is WITHDRAWN with the A4 spend. The forelimb is the real animal's, working

inside the table's bounds: elbow 36-165, carpus 32-196, and the scapula translating on the ribcage

through ±25 of protraction-retraction. The bracing pose is built from those three and needs no

departure — the elbow locks toward its extension bound and the load passes through a hyperextending

carpus into a plantigrade foot flat on the ground.

skeleton turns inside it. Weight passes through the skeleton as normal; the hide lags, and the lag is

the animal's whole defensive read. The table is silent on soft-tissue slide, so the allowance is inline

and labelled AUTHORIAL_ANATOMY.

with no articulation of its own. It is the one part of this creature that moves without a joint.

are the real animal's and the anatomy law binds them unchanged.

6. fight_grammar

THIS CREATURE IS NOT FOUGHT AT CH 5, AND THE SHEET SAYS SO AFFIRMATIVELY. combat_permission is EMPTY

where CR_0024's is PERMITTED, there is no drop anchor, there is no boss row, and the ruled state carries

combat_facing FALSE. What the row DOES stage is a PREDATOR PRESENCE with a real stake: a raid.

THE PART ECONOMY'S HOME IS EQUIPMENT AND ARCHITECTURE, held on the ARENA rather than on the body, and IT

RUNS BACKWARDS. The parts are the things the bear opens — the granary door, the store chest, the horn

flask, the hive, the traveller's pack — each with a break threshold and a real failure mode. The three

currencies invert: instead of a permanent SUBTRACTION from the creature's moveset, each broken part is a

permanent ADDITION to it, because an animal that has opened a granary is now an animal that knows

granaries; the legibility gain runs to the player, who learns which of their own surfaces this body can

work; and the material the economy wants is whatever was inside, which is gone. § 9 boards this as a

doctrine finding: it is a second inverted case beside RESTORATIVE, and a lane reading the column literally

will build it the wrong way round.

ESCALATION, WHICH IS A ROUTE RATHER THAN A PHASE. POSTURE — it stops working the forest edge and starts

working the village line. BREATH — the huffing that carries at distance stops when it is inside the ring.

VOCALIZATION — the moaning contact call it makes in the trees is replaced by silence at the door.

NEW OPENER — it stops opening the easy things and starts opening the built things, which is the escalation

a player can name before any system confirms it.

THE COUNTER IS CONSTRUCTION AND DETERRENCE, NOT A BLADE. Better doors, raised stores, a fed decoy line,

and Herbalism's plant-based pacification of predators at Trade-4 mastery [T3_Creatures_Tameable § 1.3] are

the real answers, and the TAME grade is the other half of the same mechanic: the animal that comes for

stores can be fed on purpose, and once it is fed on purpose it is a compound companion.

7. care_read

plays that for comedy. The good-path answer is building the granary better and taking the bear off the

store, which is the same shape as the chapter's own main resolution — the water returned, the strait

reopened, the man answering for it.

never a trophy, and the bond is a compound-tier passive companion occupying no combat slot.

DEFANGED. The softening considered was DELETING THE GRANARY RAID and moving the encounter to a wild

bee tree, so that no animal is ever shown breaking a Batak household's carved door. REFUSED. The

granary is the only attested built object in the record that this animal's real anatomy is for, the

loss is what makes the encounter matter, and removing it would leave a predator with nothing to

predate — the exact stat-block failure the doctrine names. The care problem is real and the tool is

REFRAME: the frame and lashings break, the Boraspati panel survives and is re-hung, and the aim moves

off the emblem and onto the timber. NO LATER LANE MAY DELETE THE GRANARY ON CARE GROUNDS; the ruling

animal is genuinely dangerous at contact distance, and the hide roll is a warning the player must obey.

BOLD, which the standing calibration requires be checked explicitly: SHOULD THIS ANIMAL BE FOUGHT? The

row carries tier PREDATOR and the region page names it a threat to the herds, so a lane could reasonably

build a fight. REFUSED ON THE CELLS — combat_permission is EMPTY where the tiger's is PERMITTED, the

grade is TAME, there is no drop anchor and no boss row, and the L11 ruled state carries combat_facing

FALSE. The refusal is scope discipline rather than squeamishness, and it is reversible by measurement:

if a later canon pass lands a permission on this row, the fight is BUILT and the hide roll is already

written as its opener.

its re-hanging repair state, the crescent as identity with its raid-gloss state, the claw-wear ladder,

the grip scarring, the five tells, the forelimbs-hanging rule on the bipedal stand, and the inverted

arena part economy are INVENTED BY THIS SHEET as the game's own. The smallest-bear status, the mid-level

predator role, the TAME grade, the herd-corridor threat, the carved granary doors, the lizard world-rule

and the craft quarter are CITED. The skeleton and joint bounds are CARRIED FROM THE ANATOMY REFERENCE

TABLE as bounds with the ursid substitution declared, and the plantigrade foot, vertebral formula, hind

digit count, bipedal stand and hide slide are inline AUTHORIAL_ANATOMY because no bucket covers them.
