CR_0026 — the Sumatran orangutan, the mind you cannot read yet (THE TAME REGISTER)

CANON SUBORDINATION — this document is PROPOSAL-TIER: it serves canon and never outranks it.
The canon: the CVD · the T1 foundation docs · the T0 registries (registries/) · the spine
(docs/spine/CH_*.md) · the region pages (_source/02_Tier_2_Region_Pages/). Authority order: docs/DOC_MAP.md § 0.
Canon served (scanned from this document's own citations — widen it by hand where it is thin):
T0_Creature_Roster · T3_Creatures_Tameable · docs/spine/CH_05.md · _source/02_Tier_2_Region_Pages/sumatra_java.md
READ THAT CANON FIRST — open it and derive from it before you build anything from this document.
If this document disagrees with canon, CANON WINS and this document is the defect — fix the
document, never the canon. Nothing here is applied until it is ratified into canon.

STATUS: PROPOSAL-TIER design sheet, written to the TAME and familiar register of

docs/proposals/bestiary/BESTIARY_ELEVATION_DOCTRINE.md § 3. It cites canon rows and writes none.

1. identity

Chao-tier passive companion at bond-lite, which occupies no combat slot [T3_Creatures_Tameable § 1.4]

REFUSED because every folklore column on this row is empty, the row carries no staged supernatural

claim, and the chapter's care architecture rests on the begu ganjang, Naga Padoha and the krasue being

the ONLY mythologically-stylized beings in it [CH_05.md:267] — a supernatural great ape would be the

mirror of the Komodo defect. · primary_axis A5 age and state, spent as trace and states

THE ONE FACT THIS SHEET IS BUILT ON. The row's own intelligence gate is Philosophus through Adeptus

Minor [T3_Creatures_Tameable:329; the row's notes], and Ch 5 holds "the Neophyte floor across every

capability" [CH_05.md:278]. The bond this row is in demand FOR is therefore not reachable in the chapter

the row first appears in, and chapter_bonding_window is EMPTY. That is not a hole to paper over. It is

the design: at Ch 5 this is the chapter's one legible refusal — a mind that is plainly trying, on the far

side of a language the player has not learned. The chapter's whole movement is reading, from two

inscriptions clicking as cousins at CH05_B01 to a datu reading back at CH05_B11. This animal is the

place where the reading stops working, and the player can feel the door rather than being told about it.

2. base_species

RE-DERIVED FROM THE ANATOMY REFERENCE TABLE. The doctrine's § 2.1 inline licence is expired. BUCKET

COVERAGE IS DIRECT AND BY ID: build/3d/schema/anatomy_reference/ARBOREAL_PRIMATE.json §

sub_plans.hominoid lists "CR_0026 Sumatran orangutan" as its first census row, with reference taxa

*Pongo*, *Gorilla*, *Pan*. This is the only one of the four CH_05 rows in this lane's set that the table

covers by row id, and the block below is the table's, not this sheet's. THREE OF MY FIRST-ISSUE FIGURES

WERE WRONG AGAINST IT AND ARE CORRECTED HERE.

real IK on four grasping end-effectors

overhead and suspensory reach; CLAVICLE PRESENT AND LOAD-BEARING — unlike every row in the QUADRUPED

bucket this shoulder is STRUTTED, not slung, which is the single structural fact that separates this

animal from the tiger sharing its chapter; hand with long curved fingers and a short thumb, the HOOK

GRIP a distinct hand pose from the power and precision grips; 5 digits on hand and foot; the hallux

DIVERGENT AND OPPOSABLE, because a primate rigged with a human foot cannot hold a branch

glenohumeral abduction 0-180 and flexion -70 to 180, with Pongo at the top of that range; forearm

pronation-supination -80 to 90, which the table calls the defining primate forelimb capability and

which a dog manages at about 25 degrees and a horse at zero; elbow 0-145; HIP FLEXION-EXTENSION -30 TO

120, ABDUCTION 0-60, AXIAL ROTATION ±45; knee 0-140; first metatarsophalangeal (the grasping axis)

abduction 0-60 and flexion-extension -40 to 30

claimed the shoulder "circumducts through effectively a full parasagittal circle" and that "the hip

abducts past 90 degrees and rotates toward 180, so the hind limb is nearly as free as the fore." The

table refutes the hip claim outright — abduction tops at 60 and axial rotation at ±45 — and gives the

shoulder a bounded 0-180 abduction rather than a circle. The hind limb is FREER THAN A HUMAN'S and it

is NOT as free as the shoulder, and the design's grasping-foot reads stand on the hallux joint rather

than on an invented hip range.

short stiff lumbar; the flanged male's cheek flanges and throat sac as secondary facial and neck

structures. The table carries no vertebral formula or facial structures for this sub-plan.

knuckle-walk on the dorsal middle phalanges — plus vertical climb, orthograde clambering and

arm-swinging, with short bipedal bouts. The table's own note is the design's licence: "an orangutan

almost never runs and almost never lets go of everything at once — its locomotion is four-limbed,

deliberate and continuous-contact. Building it on a chimp cycle is wrong." The rig rules bind: no tail;

WEIGHT GOES THROUGH THE KNUCKLES OR THE FIST, NEVER THE PALM; the shoulder reaches overhead and is a

different joint from a monkey's.

the animal that does not fall because it never trusts one contact — which is the table's

continuous-contact note stated as behaviour.

edge is soft and its contacts are hard

THE REAL ANIMAL IS ALREADY THE CHARACTER. Four hands, a body that hangs, and a face built to be looked

at. The familiar register's narrow budget is easy to hold here: the work is READ and BOND, not addition.

3. lore_source

cell reads only "great ape", and the region page names the orangutan among the five species for which

about fauna and is not carried here.

repo and this sheet does not mint one. It is boarded as an acquisition target in § 9 rather than used.

4. elevation

ONE-LINE SILHOUETTE READ: a red arboreal mass hanging on four hands, motionless, watching you work — and

building something over your head that you only notice when it is finished.

REGISTER: REAL_FAUNA (TRUE_TO_LIFE), doctrine § 3D. Elevation is refused because canon holds this row

mundane — every folklore column is empty, no supernatural claim is staged anywhere on it, and the

chapter's care architecture depends on the mundane world reading as real so that its three

mythologically-stylized beings read as the exceptions they are [CH_05.md:267]. The budget is therefore

A5 and A9, the register's natural spend; nothing on A1-A4 or A6-A8 is claimed.

THE REPLICA TEST DISCHARGES BY CONTRACT AND LADDER, per § 3D.

LEGIBILITY CONTRACT — silhouette-first discrimination against every confusable neighbour in CH_05, at

sixty pixels, black-filled:

its contacts and the bear stands ABOVE them. Four points under a branch against four points on top of

one is the whole read, and it survives at any size.

long horizontal with a tail as long again; the orangutan has no tail at all [table rig rule] and reads

as a mass with four separate limb lines. Tail-or-no-tail is the discriminator.

forest hominoid in the same forest: the orangutan is QUADRUMANOUS AND CONTINUOUS-CONTACT and the Orang

Pendek's whole tradition-attested read is UPRIGHT AND BIPEDAL. An orangutan silhouette standing free

on two legs is the one pose this sheet forbids the animation set, because it is the pose that would

make the two rows unreadable apart and would put an invented body on a living people's testimony.

rides below its shoulder line while this animal's rides between its arms.

STATE LADDER — the states a photograph of the species-typical animal does not contain:

own sleeping place at bond-lite.

same species and different animals, and which one the player has met is a fact about the forest's

social field rather than about the individual.

PRIMARY — A5 AGE AND STATE, and it is spent on the animal AND on what the animal has worn into the world.

This individual is past the life stage the species usually reaches and it has held one patch of canopy

long enough that the forest carries its route:

handhold, a groove pressed into one bough where decades of weight have passed, epiphytes stripped from

exactly the branches it uses and thick on every branch beside them. A photograph of an orangutan does

not contain a road worn by one individual. The road is the tracking read, it is buildable level art,

and it says the thing the doctrine's age axis exists to say: this was here before the quest.

knuckles or the fist and NEVER THE PALM, and Pongo fist-walks on the closed fist rather than

knuckle-walking. So the hard bark-printed callus lies on the DORSAL SURFACE OF THE CLOSED FIST and on

the finger pads and the grasping sole, and the palm stays soft. This sheet's first issue put callus on

"the heel of the hand", which is the palm and which the table forbids; corrected here. The hook fingers

are permanently curled at rest and no longer straighten fully. The hands are the clock.

shoulder that habitually rests against one particular trunk.

MECHANISM: deposition and wear on a body and on a place, over a lifetime that the game states rather than

implies. Nothing supernatural is claimed and none is needed.

THE BOND-EXPRESSION BAND (doctrine § 3.3) rides the NEST, because a nest is a built object made with the

same four hands the creature is about. At distance the nests are the only sign the animal exists — old,

browning, in the canopy above the player's route. At proximity it builds one while the player watches,

and the construction is legible in four moves: bend, tuck, weave, line. At bond-lite, in the compound

garden, it builds one over where the player sleeps. A nest above a bedroll is the whole relationship

stated as an object, and it costs no light, no glow and no dialogue.

SUPPORTING — A10 NEGATIVE SPACE, and this is the sheet's argument. THE ANIMAL DOES NOT VOCALISE AT THE

PLAYER. Ch 5 is a chapter of voices — the datu's ritual-authority register, the healer's warding register,

the monk's mandala-reading voice, the port and pilgrimage crowds [CH_05.md:269]. This creature is the one

presence that is obviously a mind and gives the player nothing to read. The long call exists and is used

to the FOREST, at range, always from somewhere else. MECHANISM: the gate is canon, and the design states

it in the body instead of in a tooltip — an absence exactly where the player expects an answer, which is

what turns an unreachable tier into a locked door rather than an empty column.

EMISSION: none. It reads by being backlit through leaves, by the coat's translucency at its edges, and by

wet darkening after rain.

5. articulation_delta

scapula and the table's own hip bounds are the real animal's, and the anatomy law binds all four limbs

identically rather than treating two as feet.

silent on hominoid digit ranges, so the figure is inline and labelled AUTHORIAL_ANATOMY: full flexion is

available and terminal extension is restricted to about 20 degrees short of straight. The table's own

recognition of the HOOK GRIP as a distinct hand pose is what this rests on. Weight passes through the

flexor tendons, the phalanges and the closed fist and NEVER ACROSS THE PALM, per the table's rig rule,

which is exactly why the callus sits on the fist's dorsal surface and the finger pads.

from grasp sockets on real branch geometry. It is a place the player can climb into, because a nest that

cannot be entered is a decal and the bond's payoff is entering it.

the road has to read as ONE animal's route and a procedural scatter gives noise instead of a story.

6. fight_grammar

THIS CREATURE IS NOT FOUGHT, AND THE SHEET SAYS SO AFFIRMATIVELY. combat_permission is EMPTY, the tier

is AMBIENT, the ruled state carries combat_facing FALSE, and the spine stages no encounter. The part

economy is NONE, declared rather than left thin. What replaces the block is ALLY AND PRESENCE LEGIBILITY

[doctrine § 3.1]: the player must be able to read this animal from a follow camera at small size.

THE LEGIBILITY BUDGET AND ITS ANSWER. At sixty pixels of silhouette in a cluttered canopy, colour and

detail are gone. The read that survives is CONTACT COUNT — four points, then three. A hanging animal

releasing one hand is a silhouette change that works at any size, in any light, against any background.

7. care_read

names the absence rather than filling it. ORDINARY_FAUNA-class rows carry no collective claim and this

sheet does not manufacture one [doctrine part five].

AMBIENT. Never fought, never a prize, never caged. The bond is a passive companion at compound tier and

occupies no combat slot [T3_Creatures_Tameable § 1.4].

RULES HOW. T3_Creatures_Tameable § 4.1 L232: extinction-threatened species are presented at their

conservation status against primary-source conservation data; real-world extinction events during the

development and launch window update Beastiary entries to witness-record content; and a player who

encountered the species before extinction retains the entry as a canonical witness record at the

worldstate persistence layer. extinction_threat is T4 and the extraction-sector tie is modern stratum

[T3_Creatures_Tameable:337]. At Ch 5 the weight is carried as SCARCITY OF ENCOUNTER: very few

individuals, each of them an individual, each with its own road and its own hands.

CH_05 is not among them. Nothing here is being protected by a rule that does not reach it.

identity system, and identity-bearing subjects carry a plate as conditioning.

The BOLD direction, which the standing calibration requires be checked: is there content here the lane

is declining out of caution? Two candidates were tested. (1) Granting a Ch-5 bond anyway, because a TAME

row in mesh demand looks like a missing companion. REFUSED — the gate is canon and the locked door is

better content than an ungated pet; the sheet turns the gate into the design instead of arguing with it.

(2) Building a fight, because a great ape is powerful enough to be one. REFUSED — the row carries no

combat permission, the tier is AMBIENT and the spine stages no encounter, so a fight here would be

authoring canon rather than being bold. If a later canon pass gives the row a permission, the branch

drop is already the opener it would be built from.

intelligence tier and its Philosophus-to-Adeptus-Minor gate, the critically-endangered status, the T4
