STATUS: PROPOSAL-TIER design sheet. It is the HUMAN REGISTER's CREW SUB-CASE (doctrine §3A.2) and this

sheet RULES ITS HEADED/HEADLESS CLAUSE HEADLESS, with the argument recorded in §4 rather than assumed.

It is also the SECOND row in the arc where a crew is wrapped around a MACHINE — the shape BE_0009_S1

found and could only report once — which promotes that composite from an observation to a pattern, and

§9 files it. It cites canon rows and writes none.

4. elevation

ONE-LINE SILHOUETTE READ: a tripod standing on wet rock with a line going up a cliff, and a stack of

crates that is one course higher than it was the last time you looked.

THE CREW SUB-CASE, AND THE HEADED/HEADLESS CLAUSE IS RULED HEADLESS. The clause's own test is what the

player will remember the place FOR, and it is argued here rather than assumed.

display_name is a PLURAL, no CHAR_ id is carried, no persona is named in BOSS_PERSONAS, and the

kit's closest thing to an individual is a LAMP.

clause gives a crew a face when the protected subject CANNOT be displaced by one — animals, a

mountain, a monument — and BE_0009_S1 earned its foreman on exactly that ground: a 24-metre

monolith is visible from the horizon and no man standing at the bottom of it can compete. THE

BLOMBOS DEPOSIT IS THE OPPOSITE KIND OF SUBJECT. It is a stratum in a small cave that a player has

to be TAUGHT to see, one beat earlier, by the chapter's quietest discovery beat [CH_13 §10 CH13_B06].

A charismatic collector standing at that cave mouth becomes, in a player's memory, the thing Blombos

is FOR — and the chapter has spent its whole deep-time argument making sure that is the ochre.

anonymous mooks, and a memorable antagonist is how an encounter earns a place in a player's memory.

The answer is that this crew's memorability is carried by its DISCIPLINE and its EQUIPMENT rather

than by a personality — a drilled escort that will not leave its line, a lamp that does not move, a

rig that has no anchors, a manifest in a clean hand, and a tide. The sheet's own test: a player who

finishes this fight can describe every one of those five, and none of them is a man's face.

PRIMARY — A3 ARMORED AND BREAKABLE REGIONS, TRANSPOSED ONTO THE RIG. The row's own third counter names

it — the rig is answered by its own lifting frame, "which is what actually stops the taking" — and

win_condition = REDUCE;PART_BREAK runs through it. MECHANISM: mechanical load paths with no

redundancy, on a machine standing on a floor that the sea is taking back. The three currencies are met

part for part in §6. What makes the transposition better here than at Aksum is the second clock: the

Aksum rig could only be taken apart by the player, and this one is ALSO being taken apart by the

arena, which means the player's real resource is TIME and the encounter's real question is whether

they spend it on the men or on the frame.

SUPPORTING — A9 THE MARK, AND IT IS THE CRATES. One high-contrast, instantly-readable identifying

feature: a stack of sawn timber cases on wet rock — the only rectilinear, man-made, straight-edged

thing in a frame of eroded stone, kelp and water. MECHANISM: geometric contrast against a coastline

with no straight lines in it, exactly the logic §4 of the Ch-13 panel sheet uses on a wall. AND ITS

DIRECTION OF TRAVEL IS THE SCOREBOARD, which is BE_0009_S1's gap-under-the-stone applied to a

different geometry: the crate stack's COURSE HEIGHT only ever goes one way unless the player makes it

go the other, it is legible from the approach before any figure is, and it needs no HUD.

SUPPORTING — A5 AGE AND STATE, ON THE MEN, READ OFF EQUIPMENT: a work party on a schedule and a tide.

Sleeves rolled under oilskins, gloves, sea-boots, a canvas apron at the bench, and the escort standing

their line because nothing has happened all week. MECHANISM: occupational dress and posture under

weather. The read the design wants at a glance is A JOB IN PROGRESS, exactly as the Aksum detail's was,

and the horror is the same horror: nobody here thinks they are doing anything unusual, and the

paperwork on the crate says they are right.

MECHANISM ROLL-UP: A3 is mechanical load paths on an unanchored frame; A9 is straight edges on a coast

that has none, with a direction of travel; A5 is working dress in cold spray. EMISSION: NONE, with one

named and lawful exception — the sentry's LAMP is combustion with visible fuel, a flame that tracks its

own supply, and a light that goes out when it is knocked over. It is the encounter's only light source

at the shelf and the whole fight is a negotiation with where it is.

enemy_usable FALSE, attack_verbs = none, with six hard-line references, and the row's own sources

cell states the non-claim in terms: no phase, no verb and no stray blow reaches the deposit; it stays

never-a-combat-zone; the deposit is the STAKE of the fight and never a surface in it. This binds the

PLAYER as much as the party — no player ability, no physics prop, no area effect and no failure state

touches it, and the cave interior is not an arena volume at any point.

both change with it, and a cliff line the escort will not step onto. The row's own composure node is

environmental=tidal_shelf_window, which means the window is a first-class encounter object rather

than a mood.

6. fight_grammar

VERBS ARE STRIKE AND PART-BREAK, axis 40/25/35, Patterns-and-Preparation. The row's three counters,

verbatim: the tide as the clock and the ground both; the escort volley answered by the cliff line they

will not follow onto; the rig answered by its own lifting frame. Two phases, evolve-not-swap — the

row's clause is THE SAME ESCORT GRAMMAR, NOW FIGHTING WITH ITS BACK TO A RISING SEA. This sheet does

not restate the kit's twelve abilities; it supplies the bodies they originate in.

THE ENCOUNTER'S STRUCTURAL IDEA, AND IT IS THE AKSUM INVERSION WITH A SECOND HAND ON THE CLOCK. There,

the loss condition moved upward and only the player could bring it back down. Here the loss condition

still moves upward — crates go up a cliff — but the ARENA is working on the machine too, and it is

working on the player at the same rate. The fight is therefore not "beat the escort" and not "break the

rig"; it is "spend a closing window on the right one of the two," and the encounter is lost by spending

it on bodies.

PART ECONOMY HOME, DECLARED BY NAME per doctrine §2.4, AND THIS ROW USES TWO: MACHINERY (the rig) and

SURFACES (the escort's posts, taken one at a time). The doctrine asks a sheet to declare its home

singular; this row cannot honestly do that, and §9 files the two-home case as a finding rather than

picking one and hiding the other. Silhouette fractions are given as fractions of the ARENA per the

machinery rule.

ONE SHAPE, ONE ANSWER. The taut fall and the cut line share a member and are distinguished by

DIRECTION — a crate rising or a crate falling — which is the most legible single distinction available

on a vertical rig and is readable at any distance. The escort volley and the wet shelf both remove

ground and are distinguished by WHAT removes it, men or water, and they carry different answers on

purpose: one is answered by cover and one cannot be answered by cover at all. THE ESCORT VOLLEY IS THE

DELIBERATE CROSS-ENCOUNTER LESSON: it is the same drilled-soldier shape BE_0009_S1 taught at Aksum,

met a second time in a second chapter, and a player who learned that a drilled line cannot be traded

with a work-crew answer arrives here already knowing it.

BREAKABLE PARTS, each with the three currencies:

arena silhouette in width and unmissable at any distance because of its length): break threshold is a

cut under tension; break event is the fall going slack and the load settling; permanent subtraction is

the lifting rig and the cut line both leaving the encounter until it is re-rove, which is time they do

not have; legibility gain is total — the crate stack stops gaining courses and everyone on the shelf

can see it; nothing is harvested, and the row is explicit that the rig is what actually stops the

taking.

threshold is the pawl jammed, the handle taken, or the crew driven off it; break event is the drum

spinning free and paying out; permanent subtraction is the lifting rate, permanently; nothing is

harvested.

before they understand it): break threshold is a guy released or its anchor pulled; break event is the

head swinging to the limit of the remaining guy and the whole frame leaning; permanent subtraction is

that the rig can no longer take full load; legibility gain is the biggest in the encounter, because a

leaning tripod on wet rock tells the player they are winning from anywhere on the approach.

broken so much as UNFOOTED, and that is the arena's contribution; break event is the frame going down

onto the shelf and the line going slack and staying slack; permanent subtraction is everything;

nothing is harvested. win_condition = REDUCE;PART_BREAK closes here.

own — that is the finding in §9. Break threshold is the cliff line taken; break event is men coming

DOWN onto the shelf; permanent subtraction is the escort volley and the posted sentry losing their

posts; legibility gain is that the high ground is empty, which is visible from everywhere; and the

material the economy wants is the ground itself, because on the shelf the tide is their problem too.

ESCALATION on the four channels, per the crew sub-case's rule that the channels attach to the group's

collective behaviour:

become a line, and the change is legible in black fill.

called at the bench. Phase two the counting stops, and the sentry's calls stop being about the player

and start being about the water. THE CHANNEL CHANGE IS THE RELAY CHAIN BREAKING — men shouting past

each other over the surf — which is the register's own named escalation and the second time the arc

has used it.

the same grammar, with nowhere to give ground.

THE OPENER AND ITS VARIANTS: the root is THE TIDE MARK — free, harmless, attacks nothing, and starts

everything. The wet shelf is the tide mark arrived. The backed escort is the tide mark arrived

underneath somebody else. The last window is the tide mark's final beat.

RELOCATION AND TURF: they enter before the player, already working. They relocate UPWARD, toward the

rig and the cliff. They leave when the rig does. What they do to the arena is that they are removing

part of it, and the tide is removing the rest.

WIN: win_condition = REDUCE;PART_BREAK, has_nonkill_path TRUE. Nothing leaves the shelf. The record

stays where its makers left it, and the deep-time payoff the chapter measures the mine against is still

there to be read. LOSS: the crates already loaded go, and the loss is RECORDED rather than erased — the

party is named in the evidence-journal with what it took, which is the form this chapter gives to a

theft it could not stop, and the discovery beat still resolves. No fail-wall and no dead end.

7. care_read

antagonist is a period-true institutional collecting operation and the men it sent, and the target is

the TAKING PARTY and never a community. The Cape communities of this chapter are who the extraction is

worked ON [row sources; HL_0003 with HL_0123; CH_13 § Protected-chapter combat framing L226].

No member of any Cape community appears in this encounter as a subject of the party's action, and §8

keeps them out of the plate set for the same reason.

is collective and never individual, lethal violence against human antagonists is core to this game's

rating and genre, and nothing about this party is softened. The has_nonkill_path TRUE is not a moral

escape hatch and this sheet is explicit about what it is: the win is measured on the RIG and the

CRATES rather than on a body count, so a player who takes the frame down without killing the escort

has won on the encounter's own terms — and a player who kills every one of them has also won, and the

game does not comment.

hard-line references and attack_verbs = none; the cave interior and the excavated ochre stratum stay

never-a-combat-zone, verbless and firewalled; no phase, no verb and no stray blow reaches them; and

CH13_B06's discovery beat is untouched at every value of this encounter [CH_13 § Site-row scope

amendment L416-422]. The thing being defended is precisely the thing that must not be scratched, and

that is a build-time rule rather than an intention (§9).

page's build constraint binds absolutely: the protected sites are built as type-accurate referenced

composition and never as high-poly reproductions of actual protected cultural property

[south_africa.md § 17]. No plate in §8 is a survey of the real site and no trench, section or find is

drawn.

peoples' material record by colonial-era collecting is documented history and the chapter stages it

with period weight rather than routing around it. The framing is the region page's own: care means

weight and not omission, the hard material stays, and the colonial and apartheid history is presented

as the documented record holds it [south_africa.md § 4]. NO REAL EXPEDITION, MUSEUM, SOCIETY,

COLLECTOR OR NATION IS NAMED OR DEPICTED — not as protection for any of them, but because the corpus

carries no account of any specific removal here [south_africa.md § 16], and naming one would be

general knowledge dressed as citation. The class of act is real; the party is the game's own.

being, no condemned register and no sacred subject among the adversaries; the sacred subject is the

DEPOSIT, and it is protected by being firewalled rather than by softening anybody.

encounter, because no member of a living community stands in it — which is itself the care decision,

stated rather than left as an absence.

(1) THE HEADLESS RULING IS A REDUCTION AND IS RECORDED AS ONE. Removing a named antagonist removes a

design surface. The devil's-advocate case is in §4 and it is not weak. The pass rules the reduction

CORRECT on the clause's own criterion — the protected subject here is displaceable and at Aksum it was

not — and records the compensation explicitly: the memorability is moved onto the escort's discipline,

the lamp, the anchorless rig, the manifest and the tide, all five of which a player can describe

afterwards.

(2) STAGING A REAL CLASS OF COLONIAL TAKING AS A PLAYABLE FIGHT. The devil's-advocate reading is

recorded fairly: turning it into a boss beat risks trivialising it into content. The pass keeps it at

FULL WEIGHT on the standing law's own terms — true history is never hidden or scrubbed — and names the

safeguard the row already carries: the loss branch RECORDS the theft in the evidence-journal with what

was taken, so the beat's subject is loss and record rather than a set piece, and the chapter's whole

journal thesis is what pays for it.

(3) THE ENCOUNTER WAS NOT MADE A STEALTH OR EVACUATION BEAT, AND THE ESCORT WAS NOT DISARMED.

Considered and REFUSED. A "slip past them and warn someone" framing would be the timid option wearing

a design rationale, and HL_0004's discharge asks for a named boss phase with its verb — which is

strike and part-break, on the approach, against armed men, on a closing tide.

(4) THE NO-INSIGNIA RULE, EXAMINED AND RULED RATHER THAN ASSUMED — DIRECTOR'S RULING, and it is

recorded here because a blanket "no identifying marks" instruction is exactly where a care rule and a

timid rule look identical. THE DEVIL'S-ADVOCATE READING, TAKEN SERIOUSLY: stripping every institutional

identifier can read as scrubbing the historical actor out of a historical act, which is the omission

error the standing law names as the more costly one, and a party with no affiliation at all risks

reading as generic bandits rather than as an operation with a commission behind it. THE RULING, AND

IT SPLITS THE TWO THINGS THAT WERE BEING CONFLATED. What is WITHHELD is the OWNER: no national emblem,

flag, crest, institution name or letterhead, on any figure, crate, lamp or document. The ground for

that is not delicacy — it is the chapter's own reveal binding, which holds threads = T03 L3-dark and

rules that the player never perceives anything behind the institution [CH_13 § Boss structure L104;

south_africa.md § 11]. That binding is genuine and sufficient on its own, and it applies to this

party's commissioner exactly as it applies to the mine's. What is KEPT is the DRESS: period-generic

expedition and escort service dress stays, in full, and reads period-true — coats, cross-belts,

brimmed hats, oilskins, sea-boots, a ruled register in a clean hand. A player looking at PLATE E or

PLATE G knows precisely what era, what kind of operation and what kind of authority they are looking

at; what they cannot do is name whose. THE STATUS OF THE WITHHOLDING IS THEREFORE A DEFERRAL, NOT A

REMOVAL, and it is bound to the T03 reveal schedule rather than left open: the institutional

identification is a thing this chapter does not yet say, in a chapter whose whole discipline is that

the player does not yet see the pattern, and the surface where it becomes sayable is the reveal's

own, not this sheet's.

failure, the party's counts and roles, the manifest as the crew's head, the wet-rock gait, the crate

stack's course height as the scoreboard, the lamp as the sentry's whole identity, and the six tell

shapes are INVENTED BY THIS SHEET and are the game's own. The 100,000-year engraved-ochre record and

its credited authorship, the site's geometry, the scope split and its authority, the tide as clock and

ground, the escort-volley and cliff-line counters, the rig counter, the win and loss rewards, and the

as a register and carries no owner's name on any surface the player can read.

site as a survey, and none depicts the excavated stratum, a trench, a section, a find or the cave

interior at any depth of field; no plate carries a national emblem, flag, crest, institution name or

letterhead as an identifying feature; no plate depicts a member of any Cape community, and none

depicts violence against anybody; no plate gives any crewman or escort a villainous feature or

horror-styled lighting — they are men on a schedule; and PLATE H is briefed at the same fidelity as

PLATE A, because the encounter's whole argument is the comparison between the two frames.

promotes it. BE_0009_S1 reported a HUMAN crew wrapped around a MACHINE and could only say it once;

this row is the same construction in a different chapter, on a different geometry, with the same

consequence — the elevation budget goes to zero on every person and the whole read moves onto an

assembly. The doctrine should say so where a lane will find it: §3A.2 and §3B are frequently the SAME

encounter, and a sheet in that case declares both registers and both part-economy homes. The doctrine

lane owns the edit.

and the escort's posts are SURFACES — positions removed one at a time, meeting all three currencies

and carrying no silhouette fraction of their own. §2.4's SURFACES home is written for "a being with no

body"; this row shows it applies to embodied crews too, where the parts are POSITIONS rather than

objects. Two findings in one row, and neither is a design gap.

REUSE ASSET — a trained military moveset with formation behaviour, distinct in silhouette and gait

from every work crew, for every army, garrison and occupation encounter from there to Ch 77 — and this

row is the next one to need it, four chapters on, with one addition: a FIRING LINE that holds a

position and will not follow onto exposed ground, which is a behaviour rather than a moveset. Building

it once and amortising it is still the cheap path and it is now measurably cheaper.

drive belt (BE_0013_S1), a hide whip (BE_0013_S2) and a fall (this row) are one physics

requirement, and four authored encounters across two chapters now depend on it with nothing in the

wave list owning it. It should be scoped once, and this row adds the wet-and-loaded case.

anatomical elevation AND for a machine that is the actual subject. A morphology column that takes one

value per row cannot express a row whose readable body is an assembly and whose people are deliberately

ordinary. The registry lane owns the write and this is the shape of the problem.

row that no Tier-2 region-page bullet anchors BE_0013_S6, which is correct as a bullet-anchor read.

It is incomplete as a "the region page has no body canon for this row" read: the row's own sources

cell cites south_africa.md L91 directly, and that Zone Catalog line fixes the encounter's entire

geometry — cave interior 55 x 30, a sea-cliff approach of about 300 m, and a tidal shelf below. The

census's shape-token lexicon cannot see arena geometry, which is exactly the class of body canon the

region-page law says hides in paragraph prose and in table cells.

block lists BE_0013 and S1, S2 and S3 only; S4, S5 and S6 were rowed on 2026-08-05 and the page's last

update is 2026-07-28. The block's own header says it is generated from the spine at build time and must

be regenerated rather than hand-edited, so this is a re-emit rather than an edit, and it is named here

so nobody discovers it as a contradiction.

stray blow reaches the deposit" is exactly the class of rule a stray area effect, a physics prop or a

decal system will violate silently, and the row carries six hard-line references. This is the same

requirement BE_0009_S1 filed for a protected monument, now on a protected deposit, and it should be a

build-time rule with a check.

chain of part-breaks taken inside a closing tidal window — the ruled puzzle-boss template's natural

shape. Whether the rig's four members are the pips is a registry judgement and it is not this lane's

to make.

evolve-not-swap clause is unusually precise in prose — the same escort grammar with its back to a

rising sea, which is an ARENA-driven escalation rather than a telegraph-driven one and which no

existing value expresses.
