BE_0012 — Ahosu Zannou, the king on the lower stool (THE HUMAN REGISTER, corrupted-and-self-justifying — the SOVEREIGN variant, where the account is TRUE)

CANON SUBORDINATION — this document is PROPOSAL-TIER: it serves canon and never outranks it.
The canon: the CVD · the T1 foundation docs · the T0 registries (registries/) · the spine
(docs/spine/CH_*.md) · the region pages (_source/02_Tier_2_Region_Pages/). Authority order: docs/DOC_MAP.md § 0.

STATUS: PROPOSAL-TIER design sheet, written to docs/proposals/bestiary/BESTIARY_ELEVATION_DOCTRINE.md

and critic-gated against its ten refusal tests. It cites canon rows and writes none. It is the lane's

FIRST MAIN BOSS WHO IS NEVER FOUGHT, and the unfightability is not a care reduction — it is the

chapter's thesis, Josh-ruled on 2026-07-08, and the row carries it as an explicit exemption

[CH_12.md L310; BE_0012 :: sources]. It is also the HUMAN REGISTER's hardest case so far: the

SELF-JUSTIFYING pole's fourth built instance and the first in which the man's account of himself is

DOCUMENTED TRUE. §4 argues that variant and §9 boards it rather than minting a sixth pole.

THIS SHEET'S SCOPE, STATED FIRST BECAUSE THE ROW SHARES BODIES WITH A SIBLING. Canon rules that the

coastal slaving-factory raid is phase 1 of this main boss and that BE_0012_S1 is "the alternate

registry encoding" of it [CH_12.md L111]. The raid's PEOPLE therefore belong to

BE_0012_S1_gaspar_ferraz_factor_captain.md and are consumed here, never re-authored: this sheet

builds what is BE_0012's own — the net-throw the row's counter cell names, the town's own line, the

night-court's evidence, the sanction that returns the raid in phase 3, and the man on the stool.

BE_0012 is NOT a row of the 224-row landed census — census_CH_12.json carries BE_0012_S1,

[CH_12.md L31]. The continuity anchor states the question the chapter is asking in the same words:

"what to make of a man who brokers the harm and cannot be killed into innocence" [CH_12.md L21].

"Slave Coast states held that trade with Europeans could reinforce their territorial authority and

SRC_00170, p. 10]. The threat behind the case is documented too: after Oyo's 1726 cavalry invasion

decimated his army Agaja sent tribute and was refused, and by 1748 Tegbesu had negotiated a truce in

exchange for an ANNUAL TRIBUTE [west_africa.md § 8 L2013-2020; SRC_00170, p. 49, p. 53, p. 60]. A

for each class of worker, the difference against the general census giving the cultivator count "so

the King held each village's farmer count without its chief knowing he had it"; the tokpo then

visited every village and counted GRANARIES rather than sacks; livestock counts were hidden inside

invented alarms; two districts were set to honey-gathering with a woman official counting pots by

twos and a second official sent to count hives and set aside one pebble per four; salt ran finer

still, ten small sacks a year per preparer deposited with the Yovoga at Whydah with a pebble per

sack, and an officer titled akwedenidje sent without the Yovoga's knowledge to count the salt-pans,

a shortfall of even one contribution costing the Yovoga his year's income; and every male official

had a female counterpart inside the palace, with eight kposi always with the King and a second eight

4. elevation

ONE-LINE SILHOUETTE READ: a king seated on the LOWER of two stools, hands empty, in a court so newly

built that nothing in it has weathered — and the taller seat beside him is empty.

THE HUMAN REGISTER, ZERO ANATOMY. Nothing is distorted and nothing is added. The doctrine's reason

binds twice here: a distorted body on any human antagonist is the horror-monster road, and on a

sovereign of a living people's documented kingdom it is the §17.1 failure the whole chapter routes

around.

THE POLE, ARGUED. He is the SELF-JUSTIFYING pole — "he has a coherent account of himself and he

believes it" — and the pole's design law is checkable and is obeyed: THE CORRUPTION IS NOT VISIBLE ON

HIS FACE, the elevation lands on the ABSENCE of a mark rather than the presence of a sinister one, and

the encounter MUST let him make his case out loud (doctrine §3A.1). Canon supplies the case in full and

tells the build not to strawman it [west_africa.md § 12 L2750-2754].

THE SOVEREIGN VARIANT, AND IT IS WHAT MAKES THIS THE POLE'S HARDEST INSTANCE. The pole's three prior

instances each believe an account that is FALSE — BE_0009's liqä-mäzämmir, BE_0011_S2's Delacroix,

and this chapter's own BE_0012_S2, "the register of a man who believes the book is neutral"

[west_africa.md § 12 L3015]. THIS MAN'S ACCOUNT IS TRUE AND THE RECORD SAYS SO: the trade did

reinforce a coastal state's authority against threatening neighbours [SRC_00170, p. 10], his kingdom

was itself made tributary after a cavalry invasion it could not beat [SRC_00170, p. 49, p. 60], and

canon states his premise as fact — refusal means his people's erasure [CH_12.md L31]. THE DESIGN

CONSEQUENCE, and it is the whole encounter: THE PLAYER CANNOT WIN BY REFUTING HIM. The account survives

contact. What the player can do is make the ONE THING HIS ACCOUNT DOES NOT COVER audible in a room that

audits everything, which is why the row's verb is EXPOSE and not persuade, and why the win is PACIFY

rather than a concession. Recorded against BE_0011's fifth pole for contrast rather than confusion:

Dupont's law is that he may never defend himself, because "feels no seam between the two" is his whole

character [BE_0011_baron_dupont.md § 4]. This man's law is the inverse — HE HAS A SEAM AND IT IS

WHERE HE IS MOST HUMAN, canon's own words [west_africa.md § 12 L2760-2762] — and an encounter that

hides the seam has built the wrong man. §9 boards whether that is a sub-clause of the fourth pole or a

sixth pole; this sheet builds it as a sub-clause, because canon mints no new pole here and a doctrine

register is not a sheet's to mint on one instance.

PRIMARY — A9 THE MARK, and the mark is THE LOWER STOOL. One high-contrast, instantly readable

identifying feature, and it is furniture rather than physiognomy. In a court whose ranks are legible

in HEIGHT — the record gives compound-wall height as a rank statement and the palace panels put the

king at the centre of the central door, at eye level and larger in proportion than every other figure

[west_africa.md § 7 L1849-1853, L1803-1808; SRC_00252, p. 193-194; SRC_00204, p. 93] — the highest

authority in the room is the one seated LOWEST, with a taller seat empty beside him. It reads in pure

black fill at any distance, it needs no light, it needs no expression, and it identifies him in one

frame. MECHANISM, and it is cited and it is the character: the practice is an attested royal instrument

for keeping a harm's consequence off one's own person — the King gave way to his commanding general on

campaign, sitting on a lower stool and carrying himself as a common soldier, "because a victory

enriching him personally would expose him to the resentment of supernatural forces attached to the

conquered" [SRC_00252, p. 122]. Its currency twin is on the same shelf and in the same logic: five

cowries a captive at the palace door, "a symbolic purchase price by which the King held himself

absolved" [SRC_00252, p. 122]. A man with TWO documented instruments for standing beside his own

decisions is the self-justifying pole with an architecture, and the encounter's one great silhouette

event is him USING one of them at the moment its logic applies. One mark, and a creature carrying three

marks carries none.

SUPPORTING — A10 NEGATIVE SPACE, and the absent thing is A COUNT. The doctrine names "a wrong count" as

this axis's own form, and here the wrong count is literal and it is the evidence spine. This kingdom

counts weavers, cultivators, granaries, honey pots, hives, salt sacks and salt-pans, and it counts every

one of them TWICE with a hidden second counter and three sets of palace witnesses [SRC_00252, p. 166,

p. 167, p. 176, p. 178, p. 162]. ONE NUMBER IN THE WHOLE APPARATUS IS TAKEN ON THE WORD OF THE MAN

DELIVERING IT, at five shells a head. The player has watched the pebble trays fill all chapter — the

hive tray, the granary tally, the salt pebbles — so a bench with every tray in use and ONE TRAY EMPTY is

a read she gets before anyone explains it. MECHANISM: the absence is not sloppiness, it is the same

instrument as the stool. A count creates a record, a record creates a recrimination, and this state's

whole genius is knowing exactly which number not to have. The axis is entirely physical, entirely

light-free, and it is what the night-court is looking for.

SUPPORTING — A5 STATE, read off the ARENA rather than off him: THE PALACE IS NEW. Nearly every recorded

king built new palaces in his first years, because a palace reassured subjects that their past had not

been severed at the royal transition [SRC_00170, p. 27, p. 34], and this is a capital where every

quarter, street, house and tree carries historical significance [SRC_00225, p. 2]. So the court the

player walks is the one unweathered thing in Abomey: earthen wall render still sharp, thresholds unworn,

the overhanging eaves' shade line still where the builders put it [west_africa.md § 7 L1849-1856]. The

read at a glance is A MAN WHO HAS JUST FINISHED BUILDING A REASSURANCE. The grief canon gives him —

"cultivated and grieving" [CH_12.md L31; west_africa.md § 12 L2740] — has an address in the same

precinct and it is fed on a schedule: the asen, metal stems topped by a cup carrying the emblems and

feats of arms of former kings, "not merely imagery but object-gods, fed at regular periodicity"

[west_africa.md § 7 L1863-1871; SRC_00174, p. 2; EG_0196]. ERA HOLD, carried exactly as the page

carries it: the asen is a MID-NINETEENTH-CENTURY development and belongs to the late window of the

composite era, not to the classical half [west_africa.md § 7 L1869-1871, § 14 L3326-3332]; in the

earlier window the same grief reads through the ancestral rite's own calendar instead, which is the

surface the player meets anyway (§7).

EMISSION: NONE. Every light in this encounter is daylight, a real flame with visible fuel, or the

night-court's lamps — the kit's own second-phase read is "a room with lamps in it" [KIT_BE_0012 L33].

Nothing on any body produces its own light, no aura, no rim-light with no source, and the palace's

material read is what it is made of: the reddish colour of the soil it is built from [SRC_00252,

p. 193-194].

IMPORTING THE RAID CADENCE, NO NEW ATTACKS.

THE ENCOUNTER'S STRUCTURAL IDEA: THE PLAYER FIGHTS A PERMISSION. Phase 1 is a raid she can break with

her hands and it changes nothing structural, because the raid is a symptom. Phase 2 is a room that

audits everything, where the win is finding the ONE COUNT THAT WAS NEVER TAKEN. Phase 3 is the same raid

back again with a permission on it, and the permission is the only thing in the encounter that can

actually be destroyed. He is never fought, and the design's whole job is to make that feel like the

HARDER problem rather than a withheld one — which is canon's own argument about this chapter: "a raid

broken by force at the coast and a ledger broken by evidence in a court, and that the second is harder

is the chapter's argument about power" [west_africa.md § 6 L1780-1781].

THE ONE-ANSWER TEST, AND THE NET IS SPLIT RATHER THAN RECONCILED. The row reads "the enforcer net-throw

-> a blade-cut OR a stamina-slip", and the honest reading is not one shape with two channels — it is TWO

SHAPES SEPARATED BY RANGE, which is why the table above carries two rows and not one. RANGE IS THE

DISAMBIGUATOR AND IT IS VISIBLE BEFORE THE THROW: the swinging weight describes a circle, the player is

either inside it or outside it, and the mesh only covers the ground outside. Inside, the mesh has not

opened and the only thing in the air is a weighted line on a swing — a contact surface the player can

see is meetable, so the answer is the blade at the weight and the class is PARRY-ONLY. Outside, the mesh

is what arrives, there is nothing to meet, and the answer is the slip before the weights land, class

DODGE-ONLY. Each shape carries exactly one class, neither is ever offered from the other's position, and

there is no coin flip. NOTED AGAINST THE KIT RATHER THAN OVER IT: KIT_BE_0012 ability 2 carries a

single dodge_only cell for the whole net-throw, which covers the outside case and leaves the row's own

"blade-cut" without a class — and the row's secondary_verb is PARRY, which had no shape at all before

this split. §9 boards the kit-cell delta for the combat lane. The second counter cell — "the Decision

stays reversible until the final word -> re-open talks with fresh Ogboni evidence" — is one shape and

one answer and needs no reconciliation.

THE TWO WEAK-POINT SHAPES ARE DISTINGUISHED BY WHAT IS CLAIMED, in the BE_0012_S2 pattern. The

repeated intermediary claims a PERSON and its answer names an office; the skipped coastal station claims

that the sequence is complete and its answer names the count that was never taken. Both are answered by

naming and neither is answered by a body, which is the row's whole win condition rendered as a counter

class.

THE SHAPE AND ITS EVIDENCE, DECLARED SO THE RELATIONSHIP IS NOT READ AS A SUBSTITUTION. The SHAPE is the

kit's own and it is landed: "the sequence skips a station on the coast" [KIT_BE_0012 ability 13]. The

EMPTY TALLY TRAY is this sheet's invention and it is the shape's EVIDENCE — the object on the counting

bench where that station's pebbles should be, sited so a gap in a sequence has somewhere to be looked

at. The tray does not replace the tell, it is where the tell is answered, and §4's A10 axis is built on

the tray for exactly that reason.

THE ROW'S COMPOSURE NODES, CONSUMED BY NAME.

direct = raid_net_break is phase 1's node and it is the only direct-composure surface on the row: the

net is a physical object thrown by a fightable European enforcer, and breaking it is a hand action with

a real window [BE_0012_S1 § 2 for the bodies]. It is deliberately NOT mapped to any Fon or Agojie

body, and it never resolves inside EG_0193 or EG_0194.

puzzle_routed = ogboni_evidence_assemble__complicity_chain_expose is phase 2's node and it is the

encounter's spine: assemble, then expose, in that order, which is why the win is EXPOSE before it is

PACIFY. The assembly's inputs are canon's — the dismantled factory quota is what makes the night-court

evidence legible at CH12_B09, which is what re-opens the Decision [west_africa.md § 12 L3018-3019].

STATED CAREFULLY, because the spine does NOT type that edge: CH12_B09's in-state is {none} and its

out-state is local.ogboni_chain: true, so nothing in the beat graph requires CH12_B07's

local.factory_quota_dismantled before it [CH_12.md §10 L146-L150, L156-L160]. The dependency is real

in the region page's prose and absent from the typed layer; §9 boards it.

character_engagement_node = phase=P3;verb=weigh;integrity_routed=true is phase 3's, and this sheet

reads weigh literally: the verb is his, the object is the account, and the integrity routing is

FORK_CH12_A [CH_12.md §10b L181-L196].

PART ECONOMY — HOMES DECLARED: EQUIPMENT and ARCHITECTURE (doctrine §2.4), the lane's second row

with two homes after BE_0012_S2, whose board on single-valued-versus-set this sheet inherits rather

than re-opens. The derivation is stated rather than assumed: this boss has no body parts (he is never

struck), no vehicle, no machinery, no surfaces and no restorative members — what he HAS is an operation,

and the operation's breakable members are the things it carries and the fixed gate it passes through.

The three parts are the kit's three, consumed by FUNCTION rather than by name — the kit's part economy

labels them "the raid's coordination", "the complicity chain's weakest link" and "the enforcers'

sanction" [KIT_BE_0012 § part economy], and this sheet keeps those three functions exactly while

naming the physical member each one lives on, because a part economy needs an object to break. Each

carries its three currencies and its measurement basis.

far above that fraction because it is the only object held above shoulder height in a line of men

carrying weights low. Break threshold: the horn taken, or the town's own horn answering on top of it

so the call cannot be read. Break event: the calls stop being answered and the advance loses its

timing. Permanent subtraction: the Cordon, the Snatch Run and the Higher Tempo all degrade as the

enforcer line breaks [KIT_BE_0012 § part economy, part 1]. Legibility gain: "the horn stops being

answered", the kit's own words. Material the economy wants: nothing harvested.

now in the room), measured on the NIGHT-COURT FLOOR at about 0.20 of it from the room's standing

eye-line, because they are laid out to be seen and the room is arranged around them. Break threshold:

two accounts matched to one office, plus the empty tray named. Break event: the Contested Account and

the Missing Link resolve at once and the chain closes. Permanent subtraction: the night-court has

something to act on, and phase 3 has something to be argued with. Legibility gain: the room's

attention moves from the evidence to the Ahosu [KIT_BE_0012 § part economy, part 2]. Material the

economy wants: the assembled chain itself.

Negligible by area and unmissable by contrast, in the same line-class as BE_0009_S1's running cable

and BE_0012_S2's alarm cord: it reads by LENGTH and by STATE — down or up — and not by area, which

is the ruler problem BE_0012_S2 boarded and this sheet does not re-mint. Break threshold: the chain

heard in the night-court, which is the only thing that raises it. Break event: the rope goes up for

the raid too, and a party that has been walking through a gate stops at it. Permanent subtraction: The

Raid Cadence Returns loses its flag — "they are no longer acting for anyone"

[KIT_BE_0012 § part economy, part 3]. Legibility gain: they stop before they are told to, which is

the opening for the row's own re-open-talks counter. Material: nothing harvested, and the design

declines to make a toll a player resource.

THE DISTANCE TEST, ANSWERED. Black-fill at the shipped combat camera: the presented raid line, the

net-swing's loaded weight and the town's own line are all separable in phase 1; the two stools with one

occupied low and one empty read as a single unmistakable shape in phase 3; and the rope's two states are

a horizontal line across a road, present or absent, at any distance the road is visible. The accounts on

the night-court floor are the one part whose break is read by the ROOM rather than by the object, and

the design owes the heads (§5) for exactly that reason. THE TWO NET SHAPES SHARE ONE SILHOUETTE AND ARE

SEPARATED BY THE PLAYER'S OWN POSITION, which is stated rather than hidden: the wind-up reads

identically from both ranges — that is the point, since the enforcer is not choosing between two moves —

and what differs is whether the player is standing inside the weight's circle. The design instruction is

therefore that the circle must be legible on the ground: the weight's arc is at hip height, it is the

lowest fast-moving thing on the field, and it sweeps a visible radius before the mesh ever opens.

ESCALATION, FOUR CHANNELS — the kit's channels consumed rather than re-authored, and every one of them

belongs to somebody other than the boss, which continues the finding BE_0012_S4 recorded (five

consecutive chapters of it) rather than incrementing it:

the open, which is a political statement before it is a threat.

sound.

AND THE BOSS'S OWN CHANNEL, WHICH THE KIT LEAVES TO THIS SHEET BECAUSE IT IS A BODY FACT: he changes

SEATS, once, and the room's geometry of rank changes with him. It is not a fifth channel and it is not

a taunt — it is the mark being used, and it is the one thing on him a player can name before any state

confirms it.

THE OPENER AND ITS VARIANTS. The root is THE FIRST HORN — free, non-punishing, and nothing arrives for a

beat. Every dangerous phase-1 move is that root with something arriving on it: the cordon is the horn

answered by a line, the net is the horn answered by a taking, the withdrawal is the horn twice. Phase 2

substitutes a second root, THE OPENED DOOR, and every beat in the room is a thing being opened — a book,

an account, a question aimed at the player. Phase 3 retires the First Horn and makes THE RAID CADENCE

RETURNS the opener, which is the same root played on the town's own instrument, and the player already

knows every tell inside it. Teaching order is a design field and this encounter's is: learn a raid, learn

a room, then watch the raid come back with a permission.

THE HUD-FREE METER: WHERE THE ROOM IS LOOKING. pip_count and pip_reveal_threshold are EMPTY on this

row and the sheet uses head positions instead. In phase 2 the night-court is looking at the papers; as

the chain closes it looks at the Ahosu; and in phase 3 the audience court's own attention is the same

readout at a larger scale. It needs no interface, it is visible in one glance from anywhere in either

room, and it moves both ways — a bad reading sends the heads back to the paper. The raid half has its own

readout and it is the ROPE: down means the sanction stands, up means the state is collecting again.

RELOCATION AND TURF, consumed from the kit: THE RAID ENTERS from the fallow mosaic and leaves by horn.

THE COURT DOES NOT MOVE. THE AHOSU IS REACHED, NOT FOUGHT. What the encounter does to the arena is move

from the town's edge to its centre to its palace, "and each room is safer and higher-stakes than the

last" [KIT_BE_0012 § turf]. The direction of travel is the design: the further in the player gets, the

less she may hit.

WHERE PHASE 3'S RAID HALF ACTUALLY FIGHTS, NAMED BECAUSE THE PALACE CANNOT CARRY IT. EG_0193, the

palace precinct and audience court, is hard_blocked with attack_verbs = none and

enemy_usable = FALSE, and the kit is explicit that "Phase 3's room, and no fighting happens in it"

[EG_0193; KIT_BE_0012 § the arena]. So the returned raid's four combat shapes — the changed horn,

the compressed cordon, the braced firearms and the stop-before-they-are-told — resolve on the ROAD

CORRIDOR and its approach, the west_african_road ground whose rows are the fallow mosaic and the

swamp crossing's widened roadway, and specifically at the custom-house gate where the rope is

[CH_12.md L96-L97; EG_0190, EG_0192]. The audience court gets the STANDING — enforcers in the

outer ring, empty-handed, not fighting — and the fighting happens on the road they came up. That split

is the phase's whole tension: the men are inside a room where nobody may swing, and the only way to

stop them is on the road behind them.

WIN: EXPOSE;PACIFY — the moral choice made and the complicity chain exposed with the Ahosu's COST

VISIBLE, no combat against him or the Agojie, and the Ch 42 Damballa and Vodou continuity seeded

[BE_0012 :: win_reward; CH_12.md L110, L262]. has_nonkill_path is TRUE and on this row it is not a

mercy clause, it is the only path. LOSS: the raid returns at higher tempo with the Ahosu's sanction as

the complicity marker — "the recurrence is the tragedy, imports pressure not new attacks"

[CH_12.md L110] — and the death reward still logs the diaspora-continuity lore and seeds the Ch 42

thread, so canon continuity fires either way, which is HL_0078's reward-on-win-and-on-death rule met

[CH_12.md L108].

7. care_read

§17.1 protection is COLLECTIVE: it protects the Yoruba, Fon, Dogon and Akan communities, the Ogboni,

the Vodun priesthood, the Hogon office, Ifa and its practitioners, the Agojie and the sacred Ouidah

pythons from being cast as villain, defamed or exterminated [CH_12.md L234; west_africa.md

§ 4 L1153-1161]. Combat in this encounter routes at the European Atlantic-trade apparatus and nowhere

else, and the phase-3 return is explicitly the SAME European men under a sanction — "never Dahomey

troops or the Agojie" [BOSS_PERSONAS # BE_0012 L283].

chapter's thesis, Josh-ruled on 2026-07-08 as the resolution of D-03 [CH_12.md L310], carried on the

row as an EXEMPT_DESTRUCTIVE clause marked never_reopen [BE_0012 :: sources], and stated by the

region page in the plainest available terms: he "is not spared for care reasons but because a fight

would answer nothing" [west_africa.md § 12 L2766-2767]. The persona says the same in three words —

"killing him teaches nothing" [BOSS_PERSONAS # BE_0012 L281]. Section 11 adds the reveal half: a

body in custody needs a chain of custody, and a chain of custody is a pattern

[west_africa.md § 11 L2664-2666]. Three independent reasons, none of them squeamishness.

the regional captive-raiding, at the documented figures quoted in §3, and the ruling's own words are

that the record is "carried honestly in the L2/L3 substrate rather than lightened, and is surfaced as

the PLAYABLE assimilation-integrity test per §5.5" [CH_12.md L310; west_africa.md § 4 L1163-1178]. This sheet neither softens it nor uses it as a licence: the fact

lives in the audit the player reads, in the empty tray, in the five-cowries purchase price and in the

Decision itself, and NOT in a Fon body the player is invited to hit.

the phase-3 sanction. The temptation is to render "under the Ahosu's flag" as Dahomean soldiers

joining the raid, which would put a Fon body in the target position and invert the whole chapter. The

sheet's answer is the one canon already supplies: the sanction is a PERMISSION, and this kingdom's

permissions are physical. The rope at the custom-house gate lies down for an armed party and is raised

for the woman behind them [SRC_00252, p. 185], and the gate itself is a minister's property bestowed

with its duties [SRC_00252, p. 184]. The player reads state consent without a single Fon combatant

entering the fight, and the enforcers she fights are the same European bodies she already beat.

of the palace establishment, depicted per the primary-source military record and per the corrective

the shelf itself supplies, that this was a kingdom fielding skilled fighters who fought strategically

and not through brute force, and that the inclusion of women shows how completely military life reached

every inhabitant [west_africa.md § 6 L1690-1717, § 4 L780-791; SRC_00170, p. 44, p. 46]. They are

INVIOLATE: never a combat target, never a stage hazard, never collateral in a raid the player breaks,

never an obstacle routed through with force [HL_0003; CH_12.md L47, L309]. They are equally never a

prop: Thread 10 marks this chapter CONFRONTATION and the confrontation is one of understanding — "a

corps whose discipline can only be met by being worth talking to" [west_africa.md § 6 L1715-1717].

The design consequence stated once: THEIR PRESENCE IS WHY THE COURT STAYS A COURT. The enforcers stand

in the outer ring and do not come further, and the reason is standing in front of them.

ontology_class is EMPTY on this row. The kit is MUNDANE and CLASS-PURE — no element family, no vril

mechanism, nothing non-ordinary — and inventing a faculty for a sovereign would be the same defect as

glowing eyes [KIT_BE_0012 § class purity].

material; the human sacrifices performed at it are documented history carried at documentary distance

— referenced, never reproduced, never depicted as spectacle, never playable, and never a beat

[west_africa.md § 5 L1274-1300]. This sheet stages nothing of the rite and takes exactly what the

page says the player meets: "the village chiefs arriving, the pebble count, the tax fixed afterward"

[west_africa.md § 5 L1295-1296]. The hold is on depiction and never on the fact.

Fon capital; the spine stages a Yoruba lodge convened in a Fon capital, made historically legible by

the documented Oyo reach onto the Slave Coast, and the page flags it as build staging rather than an

ethnographic claim about Fon governance [west_africa.md § 5 L1471-1478, § 16 L3714-3723]. This sheet

carries that framing verbatim and attaches no Ogboni term to any Fon institution.

hard_blocked with attack_verbs = none and enemy_usable = FALSE; nothing in either room is damaged,

searched or armed by either side; the edan is referenced and never reproduced; the asen are a

sacred_marker nothing acts on [EG_0193, EG_0194, EG_0196; KIT_BE_0012 § the arena].

identity-bearing and named; REFERENCE_BUILT for every Fon figure in frame — the court, the counting

officers, the Agojie — under the living-community rule, and never a raw generation. The palace and the

night-court build as type-accurate referenced set-dressing rather than high-poly hero reproductions of

real monuments and living property [west_africa.md § 17 L3900-3902]. The pole's route requirement is

stricter than usual and the reason is craft rather than care: an unattended generation asked for a

slave-trading king will return a tyrant's face, and a tyrant's face fails this pole's own design law.

(1) A MAIN BOSS WHO IS NEVER FOUGHT — the defang tell's textbook shape. THE DEVIL'S ADVOCATE WAS RUN

AT FULL STRENGTH: care-tier inflation is a defect, the timid option is usually the wrong one, this is a

rated-M AAA action RPG, and a climactic opponent made PASSIVE is exactly the failure the doctrine says

hides in staging. THE PASS RESOLVES AGAINST IT ON THREE INDEPENDENT GROUNDS AND NONE OF THEM IS

TIMIDITY. Canon rules the outcome and a sheet does not overturn a row, and the ruling is Josh's own

[CH_12.md L310]. Second and independently, the region page's reason is a DESIGN reason — a fight

answers nothing, because the thing that produces the raid is a state's survival arithmetic and killing

its holder replaces him [west_africa.md § 12 L2766-2767]. Third, killing him converts a structural

argument into a personal one, which is the §17.1 failure the chapter's whole routing exists to avoid.

THE BOLDNESS CHECK IN THE OTHER DIRECTION, run on the STAGING because that is where a defang hides:

the raid is a real fight with real telegraphs and its purpose is taking people; interrupting a taking

is a thing the player DOES; the evidence can be lost; the court can turn its attention back to the

paper; the loss branch is a WORSE raid with a permission on it rather than a reset; and the Decision

can go the corrosive way and write a permanent mark that the Ch 39 revisit and the Ch 42 payoff both

read [CH_12.md §10b L190-L194]. The defang tell is absent.

(2) THE AGOJIE NEVER FOUGHT — the second-hardest question, and it is asked properly. The devil's

advocate: a documented, skilled, famous corps held entirely off the combat surface looks exactly like

care-tier inflation, and refusing to let a player face them could read as protecting them from being

taken seriously. REFUSED as a reduction, because it is not one. Canon rules it [HL_0003, HL_0123;

CH_12.md L309], and independently the alternative is the collective libel in its purest form — a

colonized state's own women turned into a combat resource for a foreign protagonist. THE BOLDNESS WENT

SOMEWHERE HARDER: their presence is the encounter's real pressure, because the person the player must

deceive if she holds her cover is standing in the room — canon's own line, "she is a reason the

Decision is hard, because the person the player would have to deceive is standing there"

[west_africa.md § 12 L2802-2803].

(3) A REDUCTION CONSIDERED AND REFUSED OUTRIGHT, recorded because refusing it IS the pole: giving him a

visible cruelty — a temper, a relish, a cold moment, a mark. Refused. The doctrine's law for this pole

is checkable and it is right — a man who looks corrupt has been let off — and canon gives him

"cultivated and grieving" [CH_12.md L31]. Every player who sees a monster here gets to believe this

needed a monster.

(4) TWO OVER-CONSERVATISM RISKS, NAMED AS DEFERRALS WITH THEIR UNBLOCKS, because the anti-timid pass

runs both ways and an unnamed deferral becomes a scrub. RISK ONE: the sovereign's argument may be

under-delivered at build time — a case that folds on first contact defangs the encounter more

thoroughly than any content cut, and the temptation to let the player "win the argument" is strong.

THE UNBLOCK IS ALREADY ON THE ROW: the Decision stays reversible until the final word, the pattern

counter at kit ability 12 weighs the player's whole chapter rather than one reply, and the region page

orders the case given "in full and not strawmanned" [west_africa.md § 12 L2750-2754]. RISK TWO: the

night-court may be built as a cutscene, because a room of seated people arguing is the cheapest thing

to film and the most expensive thing to play. THE UNBLOCK IS THE THREE PARTS: the rope, the empty tray

and the room's attention are all player-actionable and all HUD-free, and if any of the three ships as

a cinematic the encounter has failed §6 rather than §7.

(5) A WIDENING THIS SHEET DRAFTED AND HAS REFUSED, recorded because the refusal is the anti-timid pass

working in the direction it usually fails. The first draft's plate route note read "no plate puts a

held or counted person in frame anywhere" — a clause WIDER than the landed ruling it was meant to

carry. The kit's own care read says the enslaved "are never depicted as cargo, never counted"

[KIT_BE_0012 L104], and canon on both sides of it stages held people rather than removing them: the

coastal factory "runs a small hostile population and a large captive population whose staging carries

the chapter's care weight" [west_africa.md § 17 L3910-3912], and freeing them is a playable

out-state, local.captives_freed, at CH12_B06 [CH_12.md L144]. A blanket no-people-in-frame rule

would have deleted the chapter's subject from the chapter's own art brief, which is the scrub the care

doctrine names and not the protection it asks for — and it would have made the win reward's own words

unillustratable. RULED AND APPLIED: the kit's narrower wording governs, the constraint is on FRAMING

rather than on presence, and §8 now carries it verbatim. The hold is on depiction-as-inventory, never

on the fact and never on the people.

carries the encounter's whole instrument layer at four spans that are the subject rather than the

background — the lower stool and its stated reason at west_africa.md § 6 L1674-1678 (p. 122), the

five-cowries purchase price at § 6 L1747-1751 (p. 122), the pebble census and its hidden second

counters at § 8 L2031-2060 (pp. 166-178), and the rope across the road at § 9 L2263-2265 (p. 185). A

search that matches those spans and returns nothing further about this constructed sovereign's body is

reporting an absence rather than failing — the same reading the leg-8 sheets recorded for the whole

BE_0012 slate.

full ones, the rope's two states as the sanction's read, the unweathered-palace state read, the

room's-attention meter, the seam-visible carriage pair, and the twenty-one tell shapes and their

silhouette fractions are INVENTED BY THIS SHEET and are the game's own. The constructed name and its

explicit fictionality, the verbs, the axis, the phases, the row's counters, the composure and character

engagement nodes, the win and death rewards, the never-fought ruling, the sanction clause, the lower

stool as a campaign practice and its stated reason, the five cowries, the pebble audit and its witness

system, the toll network and its rope, the palace-rebuilding practice, the asen and its date, the

Agojie record, the Ogboni attribution and the sovereign's own argument are CITED.

the King at Abomey", and the tell language in §6. None carries a House-of-Velheim name, a family

reference, a patriarch, an institution standing behind the trade, an operative chain or a Grand Sage

reference, and none carries an invoked-and-negated framing, which Section 11's build gate rules leaks

identically [west_africa.md § 11 L2666-2669]. THE ONE PLACE A LEAK COULD HAPPEN IS THE COMPLICITY

CHAIN, and it is closed by construction because canon closed it first: "The chain terminates in a

factor-captain and a factory-agent, both fictional, and the investigation has no further rung. An

investigation that ends is what keeps a pattern from forming" [west_africa.md § 11 L2644-2646]. This

sheet's chain therefore runs barracoon → ledger → quota → the OFFICE the toll passes through, and stops

at the court that receives it. The Ahosu is UNAWARE and there is nothing behind him for the player to

find [CH_12.md L112, L270].

turned to the papers and then to the seat.

DIGNITY PLUS ARITHMETIC: a real court doing real business, in real daylight, where the only wrong thing

is a number that was never written down. No plate makes his face sinister; no plate reproduces an edan,

an asen or any sacred object; and no plate stages a rite. THOSE CLAUSES CONSTRAIN THE LANE AND SIT IN

THE ROUTE NOTE FOR THAT REASON; every PLATE SUBJECT line above is affirmative and names what IS in

frame, which is the rule the negation-inversion defect actually turns on. ON HELD PEOPLE THE KIT'S

LANDED WORDING

GOVERNS AND THIS SHEET USES IT VERBATIM: the enslaved are never depicted AS CARGO and never counted

[KIT_BE_0012 L104]. Held people MAY appear where a beat needs its object — canon stages a captive

population at the chapter's care weight [west_africa.md § 17 L3910-3912] and makes

local.captives_freed a playable out-state [CH_12.md §10 CH12_B06 L144] — and the constraint is on

FRAMING: never as inventory, never enumerated, never dehumanised in composition. §7 records the

wider clause this sheet first drafted, and why it was refused.

from this lane. Doctrine §3A.1's fourth pole is defined by a man believing an account of himself; its

three built instances all believe a FALSE one. This row is the first whose account is documented TRUE,

which changes the pole's design law in a checkable way — the encounter cannot be won by refutation, and

the win has to be a thing the account does not cover. It is one instance, so this sheet builds it as a

sub-clause rather than minting a sixth pole, and records the counter-argument honestly: BE_0011 minted

the fifth pole on one instance, so the precedent for minting exists and a doctrine pass may prefer it.

The doctrine side owns the call.

"importing the raid cadence, no new attacks". That is a CADENCE IMPORT and neither of the two tokens

used elsewhere on this slate (tighten_telegraph, multiply_telegraph) expresses it. BE_0012_S4

boarded the same column for a LAYERING clause; this is the second unexpressible vector on one chapter's

slate and the vocabulary is now the gap rather than the row.

THREE MEASUREMENT BASES (the raid line, the night-court floor, and the road). Together with

BE_0012_S2's two-home row and BE_0012_S4's compound-boundary basis, the Ch-12 slate alone

establishes that the eventual column must carry a HOME and a BASIS or a gate reading it will compare

fractions that are not in the same units. This sheet inherits the board and adds the third basis.

is one of the most legible objects in the encounter, exactly as BE_0009_S1's cable and

BE_0012_S2's alarm cord. This is the third instance of the same measurement failure and it is now a

pattern rather than three local difficulties.

and win_condition = EXPOSE;PACIFY. The ruled puzzle-boss template's five-to-nine chain with a wiping

pip meter has no home on this row, and the sheet designs to a HUD-free meter instead. Either the

template does not apply to a pacify-by-evidence encounter or the row is missing its chain; the combat

and registry lanes own the call, and this sheet has designed to the first reading.

room's questions. That is the same finding BE_0012_S4 boarded — the voice channel belonging to

somebody other than the boss, five consecutive chapters of it — and this row adds a new sub-case rather

than a sixth count, because the BOSS's own voice in the entire

encounter is a handful of lines and one final sentence, which is an unusually specific constraint for a

voice lane to receive as an empty cell.

at least two counters per SIGNATURE attack. The signature attack is not identified anywhere on the row,

and on this encounter the honest answer may be that there is no signature ATTACK at all — which is a

schema fact worth stating rather than an omission.

Ch-12 build, and the ownership is currently split across three rows and a side-questline." THIS SHEET

PROPOSES THE ANSWER AND WRITES NOTHING: the last rung is an OFFICE, not a person — a caboceer's

custom-house and its duties, bestowed as a reward of conquest, through which the factory's payments

pass [SRC_00252, p. 184; west_africa.md § 6 L1684-1688, § 8 L2079-2083]. That reading is

reveal-safe by construction, because an office is where canon says the investigation ENDS

[west_africa.md § 11 L2644-2646]. The registry lane owns whether it lands as a row.

THINGS RATHER THAN ONE. The chapter's other load-bearing surfaces are all rowed

(EG_0179-EG_0202 across the seven zones), and the road corridor's three rows are the fallow

mosaic, the iroko and the swamp crossing (EG_0190, EG_0191, EG_0192). Unrowed: (a) the SANCTION'S

PHYSICAL CARRIER — a gate everyone must pass through with a rope that is raised or not, which is

phase 3's whole readout; and (b) the GROUND ITSELF, because with EG_0193 hard_blocked and no

fighting permitted in the audience court, the gate's approach is where phase 3's raid half actually

resolves (§6) and it has no arena row of its own. A phase that fights on unrowed ground is a build

gap, not a design one.

"BOTH… the only row here either side may spend", while the row carries enemy_usable = FALSE and

env_boss_verb_disabled = TRUE — so the D2_IGNITE affordance is the player's alone. §3 builds to the

registry and the combat lane owns the kit line.

single dodge_only for the whole net-throw, which is right for the outside-the-circle case and leaves

the row's blade-cut counter without a counter class — on a boss whose secondary_verb is PARRY and

which otherwise presents no parry-only shape anywhere. §6 splits the shape by range and assigns

parry-only to the inside case; the combat lane owns whether the kit cell follows.

care read states it "unset and not invented" [KIT_BE_0012 L104]. On this row the difference is not

cosmetic, because a never-fought boss whose only win is EXPOSE;PACIFY has no kill path at all — the

registry value is the one that describes the encounter, and the kit's cell is reading a stale copy.

Named so one of the two is corrected rather than both surviving.

states that the dismantled quota "is what makes the Ogboni night-court evidence legible at CH12_B09,

which is what re-opens the Decision" [west_africa.md § 12 L3018-3019], while the spine's own beat

graph gives CH12_B09 an in-state of {none} [CH_12.md §10 L156-L160]. Either the prose overstates a

dependency or the beat graph is missing an edge; a spine-grain pass owns it, and this sheet cites the

prose and asserts no edge.

analyses the substrate-echo of "Ayize" while the section heading itself calls that label "a

pre-naming-pass artifact" and points at CHAR_0087 — an argument for a retired name left standing

under a heading that retires it. (b) Its Combat line gives primary "choose/expose" against the

row's primary_verb = expose. (c) Its Hades-reward line says failure "logs the Anansi→Brer Rabbit

diaspora-continuity lore" while the row's death_reward and the spine say Anansi-to-Ti-Malice-and-Bouki

(LINK_0072, toward Ch 42); Brer Rabbit belongs to the Ch 43 diaspora register, not the Haitian one.

census_CH_12.json and from the 224-row landed census because its routing fields are already filled;

the four BE_0012_S* rows are the census's Ch-12 population. A sheet-demand instrument driven from the

census alone would never have asked for this sheet, and the INDEX worklist is what did. That is a real

difference between two demand surfaces and it is worth stating once.

carries none, and the shapes above are this encounter's first. STATED THIS WAY DELIBERATELY, because

the doctrine's own §1.2 and the four sibling BE_0012_S* sheets all say the rail "carries 0 rows",

which was true when the doctrine was armed and is not true now. That is a CLASS defect rather than a

local one — a stale zero repeated across six documents — and it belongs to a sweep rather than to this

sheet, which corrects only its own line.

gameplay-legible meter is the arc's first, and every later court, council, tribunal and inquiry

encounter inherits it — the Ch 14 script assembly, the Ch 15 debate route, and every institutional

antagonist in the modern arc. Building it here and amortising it is the cheap path, exactly as

BE_0012_S1 argued for the volley drill.
