STATUS: PROPOSAL-TIER design sheet. It is the slice's first PERCEIVE-verb main boss, the first
encounter whose designed failure state is striking the WRONG target, and the first subject whose
elevation is carried by an absence rather than by an addition. It cites canon rows and writes none.

from THAT.

[sri_lanka.md § 5; SRC_00261, pp. 197, 282]. The region page draws the conclusion this sheet
builds on: "that is what the counterfeit steals the shape of, and it is why a careless blade at
the shrine cuts the wrong way."
scholarly conjecture that the category-word yaksa may once have been extended to a pre-Buddhist
island population is carried as a conjecture, in its own frame, and is never used to assert that
the island's folkloric beings "were really" an ancestral people [sri_lanka.md § 5; SRC_00263,
p. 85]. This sheet inherits that line intact and stages nothing against it.
it — the founder-king settles the yakkhas Kalavela and Cittaraja and a yakkhini in the city and
provides for them, and builds a house for the yaksa Maheja [SRC_00263, pp. 86, 89]. So a yaka

invention: what this one does wrong is take a place that is not its own, under a face that is not
its own.

surfaced only as the counterfeit's method [CH_06 § Decisions surfaced; HL_0043].
MATERIAL (accreted offering-matter), the four courtesy marks used as the read (§6), the tell-repair
escalation, and the pattern beneath the coat.
ONE-LINE READ: a naga king holding court whose coils do not push the water aside, and who never
once rises.
PRIMARY — A10 NEGATIVE SPACE. The counterfeit is a COAT, and this sheet takes the spine's own word
literally as the design. What identifies it is not a feature it has but a set of things that are
missing behind a surface that has them:
bow-wave when the forebody moves, no meniscus climbing the scale, no settle when it stills. A
4-metre body's worth of surface with none of a 4-metre body's worth of world response — which is
Axis A6 read in reverse, and it is legible at combat distance because the player has spent five
chapters watching water behave.
postures are missing: the coil is at rest, then the coil is raised, and no weight travelled from
one to the other. This is authored as an ANIMATION-LAYER fact rather than a VFX one, and it is the
single hardest requirement this sheet places on the creature-animation lane.
one offers the throne from where it already is. A courtesy the tradition attests, absent — the
cheapest read in the fight and the one the player is taught first.
SUPPORTING — A8 MATERIAL SUBSTITUTION. The coat is made of what it drinks. Its surface is accreted
OFFERING-MATTER: lamp-soot laid down in the grain of a scale, dried flower-matter packed where
scales overlap, cloth-fibre and thread felted into the hood's edge, wax run and set along the
underside. From a distance it reads as a magnificent patterned serpent. At contact distance it reads
as a thing built out of a shrine's leavings, which is exactly what it is. This makes the row's win
condition literal and physical: BREAK THE COAT WITHOUT TOUCHING WHAT IT STOLE means the player
strikes an accretion, not a body.
SUPPORTING — A9 THE MARK, DEFERRED. The mark exists and the player does not get it until P3, which
is a deliberate departure from the axis's usual use and is declared as one. A counterfeit that
carries a loud identifying feature during the read is not a counterfeit. So the ONE mark lives
UNDER the coat and the break is what exposes it: where the coat parts, the thing inside is a
FIGURE-SHAPED HOLLOW of packed offering-matter with nothing occupying it — the shape of a court's
worth of reverence, self-standing. One image, high-contrast, delivered once, at the moment the
chapter's lesson lands.
MECHANISM, because an elevation with no mechanism is decoration: the being is made OF the reverence
it takes. That is why it has surface without mass, why it is at the shrine at all, why it widens a
quarrel (distrust is another thing to drink), and why breaking the accretion ends it without a body
ever being killed. Vril alters real physics here rather than suspending it — the offering-matter is
genuinely holding a shape, and the shape is genuinely hollow.
EMISSION: NONE. defender_element is unset on the row and this sheet claims no emitting family. The
form reads bright because a shrine is full of lamps and it is LIT by them; the soot in its scale-grain
is the record of those lamps. The glow test passes by construction.
the raise distributed across the forward third, the hood carried on paired quadrate-analogue
spreaders with their own joint chain and a declared open/close ROM.
asset lane. The coat is a layer of separately-authored plates bound to the underlying chain with
their own break state. A painted-on offering-matter map would satisfy a screenshot and fail the
fight, because the plates are the part economy (§6).
through them: they are carried, not structural, which is why they can all come off without the
form collapsing until the last one does.
an empty shell that reads as a hole in the mesh. It has a shape and the shape is a person-scale
absence.
VERBS ARE PERCEIVE AND BREAK, axis 20/55/25, puzzle-dominant. The row's counters are the design:
"read the reverence-response and the Mahavamsa-documented marks a true conscious Naga answers and a
counterfeit cannot fake; withhold the strike until the counterfeit's own mimicry tips its forgery."
| tell shape | body origin | one answer | counter class |
|---|---|---|---|
| the still water at the coil | the base sits and the surface does not answer it | PERCEIVE — mark the absent displacement | the puzzle lane |
| the throne offered from the coil | the forebody gestures without the greeting-rise the chronicle attests | PERCEIVE — mark the absent courtesy | the puzzle lane |
| the arriving posture with no travel | the raise completes with no weight crossing the body | PERCEIVE — mark the absent mass | the puzzle lane |
| the bared flank, held open and inviting | the coil opens a clean line to the forebody | HOLD — this is the strike-bait; the blade stays sheathed | strike restraint |
| the seam, once three marks are held | a coat plate lifts at its overlap under its own weight | BREAK — one plate, on that plate only | part break |
THE ONE-ANSWER TEST IS THE FIGHT. Four shapes, four answers, and the fourth answer is DO NOTHING.
Striking the bared flank is the designed failure state: it desecrates the real, the encounter resets
with the true-from-false tell now marked, and a discernment lore fragment still drops — the row's own
death reward, thread advancing on win and death alike, no fail-wall.
ESCALATION — THE ROW'S OWN PHRASE IS "DEEPENS THE COUNTERFEIT'S MIMICRY", AND THAT IS THE MECHANIC
RATHER THAN A FLAVOUR NOTE. Each read the player lands is REPAIRED by the counterfeit in the next
phase, so the tell that worked is gone and a subtler one has to be found. This is evolve-not-swap in
its purest available form: no new attacks, no new content, the same body getting better at being the
thing it is pretending to be.
taught, and the bait is at its most tempting because certainty is at its lowest.
been added. What remains wrong is finer: the rise happens at the wrong POINT IN THE COURTESY,
after the throne is offered rather than before it, because the counterfeit copied the motion and
not the protocol. The read moves from physics to manners, which is the chapter's whole thesis
about perception moving inward.
cannot fake — it is still made of the shrine's leavings, and under sustained regard the material
reads. The break follows.
THE FOUR ESCALATION CHANNELS, given anatomical homes: POSTURE — the court bearing gets BETTER
between phases, more correct, more sovereign. BREATH — a breath appears where there was none in P1
and it is timed to the hood rather than to the body, one joint out. VOCALIZATION — the address gains
the chronicle's own courtesies, asked in the right words at the wrong moment. NEW OPENER — the bait
stops being a bared flank and becomes a bared COURTESY: it offers the player the honours due a guest,
and accepting is the new failure.
OPENER AND VARIANTS: the root move is the AUDIENCE — the being addresses the player from the coil.
Every dangerous move is a variant of it: the audience held longer, the audience with the throne
offered, the audience with the flank open, the audience with the guest-honours extended. There is
one gesture in this fight and it becomes progressively more dangerous, which is why a player can
learn it.
BREAKABLE PARTS, with silhouette fractions at the shipped combat camera: the HOOD-EDGE FELT (about
0.12 of silhouette; the largest and the first to come off), the SCALE-OVERLAP PLATES along the raised
forebody (about 0.08 each, three of them, and each break subtracts one of the coat's repaired tells
permanently), and the COIL-BASE WAX SHELF (about 0.10; breaking it is what stops the form holding
its seated posture). Each break is visible without a HUD because each removes a piece of the
silhouette's outline rather than a piece of its interior.
CHAIN-METER BODY STATE: the row carries has_nonkill_path TRUE and the whole encounter is the
non-kill path — nothing here is killed, a made thing is dismantled. Chain progress shows in the
coat: as reads land, more of the accretion lifts at its seams and stands proud of the body, so the
player can see the forgery coming apart without looking at a meter.
RELOCATION AND TURF: it does not leave and it does not chase. It owns the shrine and its whole
strategy is to make the player come to it and act. A boss that never pursues is unusual in the slice
and is correct here: the pressure is entirely on the player's own hand.
WIN: the coat breaks, the hollow shows, the accretion falls into the shrine water as soot and flower
and thread, and the passive quarrel it fed on is laid bare and cools. The genuine Naga and both
unaware monks are untouched. ws.antagonist_operational_state_per_region: +false_naga_dispelled_sri_lanka.
community, the Buddhist sangha, the Vedda, and the Tamil community are honoured and are never
combat-routed. The two monks are UNAWARE passive mechanisms inside a documented dispute and are
protected on every path [HL_0003; HL_0123].
revered form — and it is rendered exactly as the tradition condemns it, unsoftened. The genuine
Naga is SACRED and INVIOLATE and is not an encounter at any tier.
told not to strike the real one; the player is given four ways to tell them apart and made
responsible for using them. That is the chapter's stated gift — "to see clearly is to be
responsible for what you see" — expressed as a rule the hands obey rather than as a line of
dialogue.
and is the puzzle-dominant 20/55/25 the timid option? The pass says NO, and records why, because a
later lane will ask again. (1) The defang tell is a PASSIVE opponent, and this one is not passive —
it is actively baiting, actively repairing its own forgery against the player's reads, and actively
widening a quarrel while the fight runs. (2) The staging is harder than a swing-fight, not softer:
a wrong strike costs the encounter and desecrates something sacred, which is a real price, and the
row's 55 puzzle axis is canon rather than this sheet's choice. (3) The chapter is not short of
violence — BE_0006_S1 is a night-long fight against a disease-demon at a warded threshold, and the
arc has just come off Ch 5. The devil's-advocate direction was also run: could this be BOLDER? Yes,
and the sheet spends that on the FAILURE STATE rather than on damage — an encounter where the
wrong move desecrates a sacred being is bolder than one where the wrong move costs health.
escalation, the coat-plate part economy, and the hollow under the coat are INVENTED BY THIS SHEET
and are the game's own. The Naga's courtesy protocol and political agency, the yaksa-settled-at-a-
shrine grammar, the monastic rivalry's blameless origin, the self-arising no-summoner framing, and
the inviolate status of the genuine Naga are CITED.
pattern — the counterfeit is self-arising and pre-Velheim, and the family first appears at Ch 8.
The Mara-vijaya principle is never named on any surface. display_name is the row's own, "the
thing wearing the naga's face", and it names a FORGERY rather than a species — no invented sacred
personal name is minted here, per the title-only ruling.

defender_element EMPTY on BE_0006. This sheet claims no element and the emptiness may be correct— but the counterfeit's WORLD RESPONSE (the absent displacement) is the fight's primary tell, and
the roster's vril_substrate_response column is where a world response would normally live. Worth
a registry-lane read on whether an absence needs a column value or the absence of one.
hitzone_parts EMPTY. This sheet proposes five breakable regions with silhouette fractions(§6). They belong on the row and this lane does not write rows.
phase_trigger, escalation_vector, phase_voice_array EMPTY on all four Ch-6 rows, and BE_0006has three authored phases with a named per-phase escalation. The columns have content waiting.
T0_Boss_Attack_Rail 0 rows. This sheet's four tell shapes with their single answers are railrows in everything but their home.
not expressible in escalation_vector as the column is currently used across the roster. It is the
slice's first instance and the puzzle-boss chain will want it again.
COMBAT-ADJACENT ASSET. It needs a plate, a mesh and full presence, and it is not on any creature or
boss roster because it is correctly not a boss. A protected being that must be BUILT to AAA
standard with no combat row is a routing gap worth naming before the asset lane meets it.
