CANON SUBORDINATION — this document is PROPOSAL-TIER: it serves canon and never outranks it.

STATUS: PROPOSAL-TIER design sheet. It is the slice's largest terrain-footprint encounter (about five
kilometres of stepped ridge to a 60×40 summit court, zone-catalog P2) and the first ENVIRONMENTAL-BOSS
subject staged inside a PROTECTED LIVING SACRED SITE with real worshippers present throughout. That
combination is the whole design problem and §7 is where it is answered. It cites canon rows and writes
none.

the arena is ON it. The precedent and its honest adaptations come from BE_0005_S3, the slice's first
landmark subject.
south-western highland, approached along a stepped ridge of about five kilometres. The stair is
built — cut and laid stone, worn — and it is not a slope: it is a STAIRCASE up a ridge, with chain
handholds where the grade steepens, and it ends in a small summit court, sixty metres by forty, that
is much smaller than the walk that reaches it.
PROFILE. The ridge's pitch is the thing that changes across the encounter, it changes within
declared bounds, and every escalation below is a change to it. A grade that changed outside those
bounds would be the terrain lane's equivalent of an out-of-ROM pose.
gait, so the only body in it is the protagonist's, and the whole subject is what happens to a
ten-year-old's gait over five kilometres of stair at altitude in cold cloud. The animation
requirement is therefore on the player character rather than on a monster, and it is the encounter's
primary asset cost.
Hindu, Muslim and Christian traditions — the summit footprint read four ways [CH_06 § Threads,
Thread 18; § Anti-fringe]. The ascent is made station by station, in respect of every tradition that
shares the path [CH_06 body prose; §10 CH06_B08].
syncretic flattening and no hidden-unity super-claim. The one-thing-behind-many-names is a WORDLESS
L3 SEED and is never a declared thesis [T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0043; CH_06 § Anti-fringe].
THE DESIGN CONSEQUENCE, which this sheet treats as the row's hardest requirement: the four stations
must be built as FOUR, distinct in material, in practice and in what a pilgrim does at them, and the
encounter must never merge them into one generic sacred marker set. A lane that built one station
and re-skinned it four times would have violated a hard line with an asset-reuse decision.
the pilgrims [sri_lanka.md § Zone Catalog @ adams_peak; CH_06 § Key sites].
row's target_type is guardian_trial and the guardian is the ASCENT. Inventing a summit spirit
for this row would fabricate a folklore claim about four living traditions at once, on a site all
four revere — the citation test's worst available failure.
shapes, the depletion-and-pace loop, and the summit-court arrival state.
ONE-LINE READ: a lit stair going up into cloud with no top visible, and four small places along it
where the mountain briefly stops being difficult.
PRIMARY — A1 SCALE BAND at LANDMARK, with its physical consequence stated, which is the band's own
requirement. What carries the mass here is DISTANCE AND GRADE rather than tonnage:
difficulty. Nothing in it is individually hard; the composition of it is.
turns. The player climbs without a horizon to measure against, which is the honest experience of the
real ascent and is also the mechanic that makes pacing a decision rather than a display.
that this discrepancy is FELT rather than explained: the reward for the largest terrain footprint in
the slice is one small stone yard, and that is exactly right for a pilgrimage.
SUPPORTING — A5 AGE AND CORRUPTION STATES, at its most literal and least corrupt: the stair is worn.
Centuries of feet have dished the tread-centres, the chain links are polished bright on their upper
surfaces and dull underneath, the stone is smooth where hands have taken the same hold. THIS IS THE
CHEAPEST AND STRONGEST BEAT IN THE ENCOUNTER — every worn surface is a record of the people who came
before, on a mountain whose whole subject is that many people come by many names, and it costs the
asset lane a material variation rather than a system.
SUPPORTING — A6 VRIL MANIFESTATION as WORLD RESPONSE, strictly inside the light law. The row's
escalation is that "the ascent hardens against a disrespectful or depleted climb", and this axis is
how that reads without a single emitted photon: the cloud closes and the visible stair shortens ahead;
the stone wets and the tread's polish becomes a real hazard; the wind takes the ridge crosswise; the
cold sits deeper. The mountain does not attack and does not glow. It becomes MORE OF WHAT IT ALREADY
IS, which is the environmental-boss protocol working as intended.
MECHANISM: the mountain is not judging anyone. What hardens is the interaction between a depleted body
and a real grade in real weather — vril altering real physics rather than suspending it. The
"disrespect" reading is carried entirely in the STATIONS (a player who skips them arrives depleted,
because attuning is what recovers), so the moral read is a mechanical consequence rather than a
supernatural verdict on the player's manners. That distinction is what keeps this out of the
punishing-god register that HL_0043 would refuse.
EMISSION: NONE from the mountain. There IS light in this encounter and all of it is carried: the
pilgrims' lamps on the night stair, in the hands of people who are climbing beside the player. It is
the strongest image in the chapter and every photon in it has a source in frame.
same precision an articulation delta would carry:
and with the four station positions fixed on it rather than distributed evenly — a pilgrimage is
not a level with checkpoints;
tiling texture would delete it;
because the player will use them for a long time at close range;
the escalation channel;
and not an art preference.
declared fatigue state affecting gait, carriage, hand use on the chains, and breath, authored as a
continuous parameter rather than as a swap between a fresh and a tired animation set. This is the
same continuous-parameter discipline the aging law places on the character lane and it is the same
rig.
VERBS ARE ENDURE AND ATTUNE, axis 30/40/30. The row's counters: "attune to each tradition's marker at
its station; endure the altitude by pacing the recharge."
THE LOOP, stated once: the climb depletes. The stations restore. The stations are FOUR, they are far
apart, and attuning at one takes time the weather is spending. Every decision in the encounter is
whether to push to the next station or to spend longer at this one, and there is no meter that answers
it — the player reads their own character's carriage and breath. That is the whole encounter and it is
enough, because five kilometres is long.
| tell shape | body origin | one answer | counter class |
|---|---|---|---|
| the cloud closes ahead | the visible stair shortens; the next turn goes out of sight | ENDURE — hold the pace already set; do not sprint into the shortened frame | vril management |
| the tread darkens | the stone wets and the dished centres take a shine | traverse the OUTER edge where the wear is least — the surface is readable | the puzzle lane |
| the crosswind on the open ridge | the gust takes the ridge broadside at an exposed stretch | take the chain — a contact surface, offered and meetable | parry-class (the handhold) |
| the station | a marker of one of the four traditions stands at a widening of the stair | ATTUNE — in that tradition's own terms, at its own marker | the puzzle lane |
| the player's own carriage drops | the protagonist's gait shortens and the hands start seeking the chain unasked | STOP — this is the encounter telling the player, on the only body in frame | the passage window |
ONE SHAPE, ONE ANSWER throughout, and the fifth is the one that makes the encounter honest: THE
PRIMARY TELL IS ON THE PLAYER'S OWN CHARACTER. The distance test is answered the way BE_0006_S2
answers it — the readable silhouette is the protagonist's, at the size the follow camera gives it, and
a fatigue state that cannot be read there has failed exactly as an invisible monster tell would.
THE FOUR STATIONS ARE FOUR, and the attune verb is different at each because the practices are
different. The sheet does not specify the four practices, and that is a DELIBERATE REFUSAL rather than
an omission: which four traditions' markers stand where on the real mountain, and what a pilgrim
actually does at each, is a matter of documented fact that the processed corpus does not currently
carry at that granularity. Inventing four rites for a living multi-faith site would be precisely the
flattening HL_0043 forbids. §9 boards the acquisition; until it lands, the stations are built as four
distinct places with four distinct materials and four distinct player actions authored from the
documented general practice, and each is superseded in place when the specific record arrives.
ESCALATION — the row's phrase is "steepens the same path". P2 does not add anything. The grade
increases, the cloud tightens, the wind rises, and the distance between the remaining stations grows.
Evolve-not-swap, with nothing new introduced at all — the purest instance of it in the chapter.
THE FOUR CHANNELS, adapted honestly to a thing with no face, following the landmark-band precedent:
POSTURE — the mountain's own pitch, which is the grade curve. BREATH — the wind's period on the ridge,
which shortens. VOCALIZATION — the SOUND is the pilgrimage's own: the bells at the stations, the
voices of the people climbing, and these get QUIETER and further apart as the player climbs into the
cloud, so the escalation is a loss of company rather than a roar. NEW OPENER — the cloud stops lifting
between gusts.
OPENER AND VARIANTS: the root is THE NEXT FLIGHT OF STAIR. Every variant is that flight steeper, wetter,
colder, or further from the last station.
BREAKABLE PARTS: NONE. Nothing is broken here and hitzone_parts is correctly empty (§9).
CHAIN-METER BODY STATE: has_nonkill_path TRUE, trivially — nothing can be killed. Progress shows in
the player character's carriage, in the number of lamps still visible ahead, and in the station bells
behind.
RELOCATION AND TURF: the encounter IS relocation. win_shape is passage, and this is the row that
makes the passage shape mean something: the win is arrival, and the encounter's territory is the five
kilometres between the player and it.
WIN: the summit court at the top of the stair, the footprint that four traditions read four ways, and
a convergence-pattern discovery FELT ONLY AS SENSATION — "a pressure at the edge of the chest", filed
with the others, never spoken [CH_06 body prose; §10 CH06_B08]. LOSS: no death — the player turns back
or is stopped by the weather, the ascent's rhythm is logged for the retry, and the mountain is
climbed again, which is what pilgrims do.
and all four are honoured in their own terms. The pilgrims on the stair are PEOPLE CLIMBING BESIDE
THE PLAYER — they are company, they are the light source, they are the sound, and they are never
obstacles, never threats, and never targets. The design instruction is affirmative: the encounter's
hardest stretch should be the one where the lamps ahead have thinned out.
stations, four materials, four practices, four names for the footprint. No merged marker, no
composite rite, no "all paths are one" statement anywhere on any player surface. The one-thing-
behind-many-names stays a wordless L3 seed.
guardian_trial and the guardian is theascent, which is the environmental-boss protocol applied exactly as the standing ruling intends —
the playable layer for a protected chapter, rather than an excuse for a chapter without one.
summit footprint in particular is treated as the documented revered object it is — present, framed
with weight, and not embellished into a set piece.
enemy, no damage and no kill a defang — the timid option dressed as reverence? The pass says NO, and
records the reasoning because this is exactly the encounter a later lane will accuse. (1) NOTHING
WAS REDUCED: the row arrived as guardian_trial, endure/attune, win_shape: passage, and the spine
states the ascent-trial is environmental and never routed at the pilgrims. This sheet did not soften
a fight; it built the shape canon specified. (2) The standing ruling is explicit that the
environmental-boss protocol IS the playable layer for protected chapters and that L1 must be
action-packed in every chapter — so the obligation here is to make the climb genuinely hard, and
this sheet spends its boldness there: five kilometres, no visible summit, real wet stone, real
crosswind on an exposed ridge, a ten-year-old's body, and a failure state that is turning back.
(3) The devil's-advocate direction was run: could this be BOLDER? The options considered and
rejected, with reasons, were a summit guardian being (fabricates folklore for four living
traditions), a hostile weather-spirit (gives the mountain a face HL_0043 forbids), and bandits on
the pilgrim path (routes violence into a protected living site full of worshippers and is the exact
§17.1 failure the chapter framing forbids). The boldness available was spent on the CLIMB'S OWN
DIFFICULTY and on the loneliness of the upper stair, which is the one direction that costs no one
anything.
shapes, the wear-as-record material read and the thinning-lamps escalation are INVENTED BY THIS
SHEET and are the game's own. The mountain, its multi-faith reverence, the station-by-station
ascent, the summit footprint read four ways, the stair, the chains and the site's geography are
CITED. The four traditions' specific practices are NEITHER invented NOR asserted — see §6 and §9.
sheet states it. No House-of-Velheim name, family or pattern appears; the Grand Sage is dark. The
design layer may state that the four names reach for one thing; the player surfaces may not, and
this sheet's player-facing content is the mountain, the stair, the stations and the weather.

or carrying light. PLATE D is authored FOUR TIMES, once per tradition, and never once as a template.
blocking debt. Which markers stand where on the real ascent, and what each tradition's pilgrims
actually do at them, is documented fact the processed corpus does not carry at station granularity.
It belongs on the Section-16 acquisition list beside the Tovil specialist literature (BE_0006_S1's
debt), and the sheet's four authored stations are superseded in place on its arrival.
hitzone_parts EMPTY AND CORRECTLY SO. This is the THIRD instance in the slice of the "no rows bydesign versus no rows yet" gap (after BE_0005_S3 and BE_0006_S2), and three instances in one slice
makes it a schema finding rather than a curiosity: a gate cannot currently tell a completed
emptiness from an unbuilt one, and it will eventually read one as the other.
phase_trigger, escalation_vector, phase_voice_array EMPTY; the row has a two-phase steepeningand a four-channel escalation whose voice channel is a THINNING of the pilgrimage's own sound.
T0_Boss_Attack_Rail 0 rows, and this row may legitimately need none — the fourth instance of thesame schema gap, from the rail's side.
protagonist's own carriage and breath under load, authored as a continuous state rather than an
animation swap, and nothing in the character program currently owns it. It is the same
continuous-parameter discipline the aging law already places on that lane, applied to a different
axis, and Ch 10's Kia-trance threshold and Ch 13's mine descent will both want it.
protected TRUE, worshippers present throughout,a real sub-boss staged on it, routed entirely at the terrain) is used here and at
village_edura_ward in the same chapter, by two different mechanisms. Two instances one chapter
apart is worth a gate-lane positive control: the combination is legal and is easy to mis-read as a
violation.
