CANON SUBORDINATION — this document is PROPOSAL-TIER: it serves canon and never outranks it.
The canon: the CVD · the T1 foundation docs · the T0 registries (registries/) · the spine
(docs/spine/CH_*.md) · the region pages (_source/02_Tier_2_Region_Pages/). Authority order:docs/DOC_MAP.md§ 0.
Canon served (scanned from this document's own citations — widen it by hand where it is thin):
T0_Boss_Encounter_Registry·T0_Character_Index·docs/spine/CH_05.md
READ THAT CANON FIRST — open it and derive from it before you build anything from this document.
If this document disagrees with canon, CANON WINS and this document is the defect — fix the
document, never the canon. Nothing here is applied until it is ratified into canon.
STATUS: PROPOSAL-TIER design sheet, HUMAN REGISTER. It is the shortest sheet in the set and it says
why: an information-layer boss's design surface is a DOCUMENT SYSTEM, not a body. It cites canon rows
and writes none.

T0_Boss_Encounter_Registry @ BE_0005_S1 · T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0035 · docs/spine/CH_05.md § Boss structure
*Homo sapiens*, a Tamil-named broker in the Srivijaya strait economy. Ordinary skeleton, ordinary ROM,
human-register zero on anatomy. His body carries one design fact and it is a working one: he is a man
who is never in the room, so his DESIGN SUBJECT is his absence and the trail he leaves.
The Palembang strait-brokerage economic control is the zone's own modelled system, and the ledger he
keeps names the destruction pattern at its 1025 CE historical anchor. He is a fictional broker inside
a real trade geography, and no real historical person is portrayed.
ELEVATION BUDGET: ZERO, DECLARED, AND THE DESIGN SURFACE IS THE DOCUMENT.
An information-layer boss fails the same way a materialized argument does: it becomes a menu. The
answer is that his ledgers are PHYSICAL OBJECTS with a physical grammar the player learns to read:
and which stock a page is written on says who it was written FOR. A player learns the substrates
before they learn the cipher.
row's own counter, and the design makes that a look rather than a lookup: two entries that claim the
same cargo carry different ink, different rule-lines, and different edge-wear, because one of them
was written later to cover the other.
a skill the arc has been building since Liang Bua: the forger copied the letterforms and not the
hand, so the strokes are right and the pressure is wrong.
ONE-LINE READ: a stack of ledgers on three different papers, one of which nobody in this port should
be able to get.
EMISSION: none.
Nothing added. One requirement: the documents are real readable props with authored materials, edge
wear, ink variance and rule-lines, because every counter on this row is a material comparison. A
ledger rendered as a texture with a "READ" prompt has deleted the encounter.
There is no combat and the sheet does not invent any. axis_split is 20/55/25 — puzzle-dominant, with
a fifth of it physical, which is the pursuit.
| tell shape | body origin | one answer | counter class |
|---|---|---|---|
| the contradiction | two entries claim the same cargo, on different stock | cross-reference to break the false trail — the row's own counter | the puzzle lane |
| the wrong pressure | a forged manifest's strokes are right and its pressure is not | read the inscription-tell — the row's own second counter | the puzzle lane |
| the emptied room | the ledger-house has been cleared in a hurry and one thing was left | he is one move ahead; the left thing is the next lead | read |
| the run | he breaks and goes, through a port he knows better than the player | pursue — the row's own secondary verb, and the port's geography is the fight | traversal |
ESCALATION: the CIPHER compounds and the false trails multiply, which is the row's own evolve-not-swap
phrase. Each decoded entry narrows him spatially, so the puzzle and the pursuit are the same track:
solving the paper is how the player closes the distance.
WIN: the ledger naming the destruction pattern at its 1025 CE anchor. LOSS: the cipher method is
revealed, easing the retry — a graduated consequence with no dead end.
and no real historical person is portrayed.
a plate for the ledger materials because the material differences are gameplay-bearing.
giving him a bodyguard fight to make him feel like a boss. Refused: his axis split is 20/55/25 and
the row means it. A puzzle-dominant boss that gets a combat phase bolted on has stopped being the
thing the roster needed.
right-strokes-wrong-pressure forgery tell, and the emptied-room beat are INVENTED BY THIS SHEET.
The verbs, counters, the 1025 CE anchor and the cipher's compounding are CANON.
applies at full strength — the ledger names a DESTRUCTION PATTERN and never a family, a house, or a
chain of instruction. This is exactly the kind of surface where a leak would be easiest and worst.
substrates side by side under one oil lamp — palm-leaf, bark paper, and a pale foreign sheet.
pip_count and pip_reveal_threshold are EMPTY on this row, as they are on BE_0002_S2 — twopuzzle-dominant encounters with no pip data while every combat row in Ch 2-5 carries it. Whether
puzzle-dominant rows are meant to be pip-less is a registry-lane call and it is currently a silence
rather than a decision.
