CANON SUBORDINATION — this document is PROPOSAL-TIER: it serves canon and never outranks it.
The canon: the CVD · the T1 foundation docs · the T0 registries (registries/) · the spine
(docs/spine/CH_*.md) · the region pages (_source/02_Tier_2_Region_Pages/). Authority order:docs/DOC_MAP.md§ 0.
Canon served (scanned from this document's own citations — widen it by hand where it is thin):

READ THAT CANON FIRST — open it and derive from it before you build anything from this document.
If this document disagrees with canon, CANON WINS and this document is the defect — fix the
document, never the canon. Nothing here is applied until it is ratified into canon.
STATUS: PROPOSAL-TIER design sheet. It cites canon rows and writes none. This is the Ch-4
don't-defang case, and the region page has already done the hard part: the mechanism is in the
tradition's own record and it is better than anything a designer would invent.

The design subject is the night-form and the perceive verb's target is the TIE between them, which
section 6 handles without ever putting the player in front of a villager.

the doorway, plus the blood, the amniotic fluid and the vernix that vanish at birth. Honoured —
greeted goodnight, thanked at dawn, given the first spilled drop of every drink — they guard the
person through life and aid meditation, knowledge and protection; TURNED THE OTHER WAY BY A

healing, warding, the balian's work, and the branch Balian Made Sari (CHAR_0026) holds. The pengiwa
is the left-hand craft, the tradition's OWN CONDEMNED BRANCH, whose adept unbinds at night. Neither
is an outside evil imported into Bali; both are the island's own, which is exactly what makes the
chapter's monster load-bearing rather than borrowed [SRC_00157].

surfaced through the warding and the bond, never declared to the player." The design below SHOWS the
four. It never names them, and no player-facing string in this encounter explains what they are.
ONE-LINE SILHOUETTE READ: a person at the edge of the warded light with four things behind them that
move when they move, half a beat late.
PRIMARY — A2 SEGMENT AND LIMB MULTIPLICATION, AND THE NUMBER IS FOUR BECAUSE THE TRADITION SAYS FOUR.
This is the sheet's central claim and it is the reason this design is better than a flying head: the
leyak's POWER is four siblings turned, so the leyak's BODY is four.
station around the core body at the four quarters, at roughly knee height, each connected to the
body by nothing visible and each moving as though it were.
and dark and leaves a mark on the ground it crosses; one is thin and almost not there; one is pale
and clings closest. FOUR MATERIALS, FOUR MOTIONS, ONE COUNT. A player will never be told what they
are and will absolutely notice that there are four of them and that they are not alike.
and a spine of five, ROM ordinary for a quadrupedal form. They articulate. They are not a blob and
they are not an effect.
fraction late, the way a shadow that is not yours would.
SUPPORTING — A10 NEGATIVE SPACE, on the core body: it does not cast the shadow it should. The ward's
lamps are real fires at the threshold ring and everything else in the courtyard casts. The core body's
shadow is thin, wrong-angled, and sometimes has four small companions the body does not.
MECHANISM: the four birth-siblings are real in this cosmology, they attend a person for life, and a
pengiwa adept turns them. The night-form is that turning made visible — the same person, the same
four, aimed the other way. Vril alters real physics rather than suspending it, and this is the
tradition's own account of what the alteration IS.
EMISSION: NONE, and the refusal is load-bearing. Balinese leyak imagery in popular media is
relentlessly luminous, and glowing eyes are a banned class outright. This leyak is READ BY THE WARD'S
OWN FIRELIGHT: it is what the threshold lamps catch at the edge of their throw, and it is more
frightening for being lit by the village's own defence.
with a fixed lag offset. The lag is a number in the rig, not a hand-animated feel, so it is
consistent and therefore learnable.
leaving it to a build: there is no cord, no tether, no strand. The relationship is expressed
entirely by synchronised motion, which is why the lag has to be exact.
is a specific defect and not an absence.
VERBS ARE BANISH AND PERCEIVE. The win is driving it off and protecting the vulnerable, plus the true
pengiwa/penengen lore — NEVER a community killing.
| tell shape | body origin | one answer | counter class worn on the body |
|---|---|---|---|
| the four spread | the attendants leave their quarters and move wide | the ring is being tested at four points — hold the warded threshold with the balian, the row's own counter | the ward lane |
| the heavy one sets | the earthbound attendant plants and does not move | that quarter is where the press comes; everything else is a feint | read |
| the wet one crosses | the marking attendant runs a line across the ground | do not cross its line — the ground it marks is where the ward fails | positioning |
| the core steps in | the person-shaped body comes to the threshold itself | perceive the tell that ties the night-form to its daytime pengiwa self — the row's own second counter | the puzzle lane |
| the flight | the whole set breaks and re-forms elsewhere on the ring | multiplying flight-paths, not new attacks — the row's own phase-two shape | movement read |
THE PERCEIVE COUNTER IS THE ENCOUNTER'S CARE ARCHITECTURE, AND IT NEVER PUTS A VILLAGER IN FRONT OF
THE PLAYER. The tie between the night-form and its daytime self is read off the FOUR, not off a face:
the attendants carry the marks of a specific household — the earthbound one carries that doorway's
soil, the pale one that person's habits of movement. The player perceives WHOSE the four are. The
reveal is knowledge, and the resolution is that the balian's ward holds and the leyak is driven off.
ESCALATION, four channels: POSTURE — the core body stops keeping the tree line and stands in the open
at the ring's edge. BREATH — the wrong thing entirely: the core body's breathing is fine, and the
FOUR are what is breathing hard. VOCALIZATION — the leyak's own night register, and the design's
constraint is that it never becomes a scream; the tradition's terror is proximity, not volume. NEW
OPENER — the flight replaces the spread.
it. Rangda is DELIBERATELY NEVER VILLAINIZED and is not this encounter. The balians, pedanda,
villagers and the unaware Dalang are PROTECTED. The malevolent register is the tradition's OWN
condemned pengiwa evil, warded by the community's OWN balian. The enemy is the island's own named
wrong, opposed by the island's own named right, and no outsider's judgement enters at any point.
it. Not softened, and not Hollywood-monstered — the design's specific refusal of the luminous
flying-head cliché is the anti-Hollywood half, and the refusal to make it an abstraction is the
anti-softening half.
encounter is the night-form on the ward ring. The player never fights, accuses, or is asked to
identify a villager on screen, and the perceive read runs on the four rather than on a face. This is
the Flores method applied on a second island: the aim is moved, nothing is removed.
with a human-shaped core.
with something invented, to avoid using the kanda empat at all. REFUSED — the four ARE the leyak's
power in the tradition's own account, the region page states it as the section's single most
load-bearing substrate, and inventing a substitute would be exactly the "borrowed monster" the page
warns against. The authorial rule is that the four are never DECLARED to the player, and this design
obeys that rule precisely: shown, never named. (2) Making the leyak a pure chase with no confrontation.
REFUSED — banish is a real verb with a real ward and a real fail cost to the vulnerable people behind
the ring.

T0_Boss_Attack_Rail 0 rows. Creature_Roster.folklore_attribution, and the leyak's night-form is named there as a routing
target — but there is no CR_ id for it in the Ch-4 set the way CR_0151 exists for the polo. The
Ch-2 folklore being has a row and the Ch-4 one does not, so the attribution, care register and
ontology class that CR_0151 carries have nowhere to live here.
lands here. The two designs are deliberately DIFFERENT — subtraction on Flores, multiplication on
Bali — and that difference is the link's own "parallel-independent" claim expressed visually. Worth
recording so a later lane does not "harmonise" them.
