Prologue — The Birth: The Realm at Its Height, the Sovereign Ceiling, the Realm Served, and the First Taking

Story Spine entry, v3.1 beat→fork→state event graph (docs/SPINE_SCHEMA_v3.md), restructured in place from the v2.5 cascade build (authored to docs/proposals/CHAPTER_BUILD_TARGET.md and the v2.5 twenty-block anchor-hub schema), spine_status drafted. The v2.5 anchors, prose, source-anchor provenance, and reveal discipline are preserved; v3 re-shapes the site/boss/beat/side-quest/scene/state blocks into the typed machine layer (join-and-type — no new canon authored). Grounded on the canonical origin (T3_Core §2.1 — the protagonist is an elf born in the fairy realm as the child of the Elven King; the fairy-realm prologue is the vril CEILING reference for the whole seventy-seven-chapter arc, the protagonist beginning Ch 2 depleted and rebuilding toward this ceiling across the journey), T3_Core §6.4 (the Prologue gives the player full access to the King's sovereign faculties as a tutorial teaching the ceiling, then stripped at the rift fall), the FINALE enrichment framework (docs/proposals/FINALE_FAIRY_ENRICHMENT.md, the Prologue brief — playable as the Elven King at the ceiling, the pre-rift kingdom), and a build-time deep-research pass (the Celtic Otherworld abundance/eternal-youth register — Mag Mell, Tír na nÓg, Annwn's ever-abundant cauldron; the aos sí sovereign courtly folk; the sídhe-mound + féth-fíada veil as the dimensional-boundary apparatus; the vril-vs-Vril-Society firewall; two agents, adversarially cited — the origin-research workflow). This IS a hard-line node (canonical_hard_line_flag TRUE — the Prologue is in the eighteen-node set; the origin). THE PROLOGUE IS BUILT LAST AND READ FIRST, and SHOW-DON'T-TELL IS ABSOLUTE: NOTHING of the game's thesis or the Grand Sage is shown, hinted, or foreshadowed — the King consults his own deepest counsel (the Grand Sage, its nature known to him for ten thousand years) and says nothing, and his temporal sight reaches across time (§6.4, backward and forward, imprecise and conditional) but he gives no word of any of it, never voiced as prophecy (HL_0116/HL_0046/HL_0043). The origin plants seeds that pay off across the arc — the King's sovereign ceiling (the birthright the climb reclaims), the twelve royal-communion familiars (the pool Ch 1 selects from), the veil/rift physics — but reads as innocent childhood/kingship on first play, and only in HINDSIGHT reframes the whole arc. The Celtic Otherworld traditions are honored as Layer-2 reference, echoed never lifted (the realm keeps its own game-canon names; no deity-name on the King, HL_0099; the abundance register borrowed but the afterlife framing excluded — the realm is a LIVING civilization). The vril reads mathematical, physical, substrate — never the race-mystical Vril-Society/polar-energy reading (authorial firewall). AMENDED 2026-07-27 to the Josh-authored Prologue/Ch-1 emotional spine: the chapter grows from a ten-beat ceiling tutorial into a SERVED realm with a cost at its end — the mother present at the birth and her ward passed to the child in the same gesture that lifts the heir into the light; the realm-service arc as the chapter's playable body (the realm adventured, further rifts closed at the ceiling, the town helped and rebuilt and kept); the catastrophe that fires where the King is NOT; the playable, unfailable run back; and the mother's death. The first sealing keeps its content and becomes the chapter's PROOF rather than its climax, so the ceiling is never beaten and never lost — what the origin also shows is that sovereign mastery cannot be in two places [SRC: DECISIONS_PENDING_JOSH # RULED 2026-07-27 (third sitting)] [SRC: AMULET_PROVENANCE_BRIEF # 4.1]. The physics under it is the vibrational-gravity canon of the seventh sitting, and it is SHOWN in staging only — never narrated as law, never explained on any surface, the ward simply doing what a ward does [SRC: DECISIONS_PENDING_JOSH # RULED 2026-07-27 (seventh sitting)]. The mother's death has NO AUTHOR: no targeting, no intent, no recurrence framing, nothing that invites the question of who sent it — and the King is never shown foreseeing it and never shown failing to foresee it, because his Temporal Sight simply never enters the sequence (HL_0116). AMENDED AGAIN 2026-07-27 (eleventh sitting) with the catastrophe's staging RULED ARRIVE-TOO-LATE: the run back IS the beat, any fight is HEARD AND NEVER PLAYED (distant light and sound far ahead across the plain, never resolved into a foe and never approached), nothing is present in the hall to be fought when the King arrives, and there is no preventable moment anywhere in the sequence — the death has no author and no moment at which a faster or better King saves her, so the guilt the arc carries belongs to the amulet and never to failure [SRC: DECISIONS_PENDING_JOSH # RULED 2026-07-27 (eleventh sitting)]. Drafted is not canonical.

Body prose

The realm does not need to be described so much as remembered, because it is the thing the whole long road ahead will be spent trying to get back to.

It is a place at its height, and its height is not wealth but fullness — nothing in it is scarce and nothing in it decays. The plain around the King's seat holds its flowering the way other places hold their weather, endlessly and without season; the light does not fall from anywhere, it is simply in the air, the way the vril is in the air, saturating everything, so that to breathe here is to be full. Nobody ages. The court around the King is old past counting and undimmed by it — tall, luminous, unhurried people of a sovereign order, the fair folk of a living kingdom, who move through their hall and their long plain with the ease of those who have never once wanted for anything. It is not a paradise of rest. It is a paradise of capacity: everything here can do the thing it was made to do, all the way, without strain.

And the King can do more than any of them, and the player is the King. To move through the realm as him is to feel the ceiling of everything, at its full height, before anything has been taken away. His vril is not a weapon he aims; it is a field he is — within his reach the air brightens to the realm's own saturation and anything that should not be there simply thins and fails, not struck down but unable to hold against so much fullness. He looks and sees his kingdom whole, every corner of the long plain, serene and complete; and his sight does not stop at the present — it reaches, imprecise and conditional, into the faint shapes of before and of after — and of all of it he gives no word, least of all of any tomorrow, saying nothing the way the very old say nothing, from a long ease with knowing more than they ever tell. He walks among the great luminous animals that are not his pets but his peers, twelve kinds of them that answer his mind as easily as his own hands, and the communion between them is its own kind of speech. He keeps, too, the membrane of the realm itself — the fine dimming veil that holds the kingdom folded away whole and hidden, the sovereign faculty that is the same faculty as the sealing of any breach, the realm his to keep closed and bright.

Into this the child is born, and the realm is more itself for it. The mother does the oldest and least remarkable thing in the hall: she lifts the small ward from her own throat, the one she has worn so long that the court has stopped seeing it, and she puts it on the child. It is done the way a blanket is tucked or a name is spoken — a custom, and a love, and no more thought given to it than that. In the same moment the King holds his heir up into the sourceless light and the whole court is glad, and for a while the story is only that: a kingdom at its fullness and a new life in it, the ordinary miracle of a place where nothing is ever taken.

Then the air goes wrong in one place, far out on the plain, the way a still pool goes wrong when something drops into it from above. A rift — a thin tear in the folded membrane of the realm, a place where the depleted dark on the other side of everything presses through. The King goes to it, and the player learns the apex of what he is: he does not fight the rift, he SEALS it, pouring his sovereign vril into the exact resonant pitch of the tear until the membrane knits and the brightness closes back over the wound and the realm is whole again. It is the King's first and truest function — the keeper of the seam between the full world and the starved one — and here, at the height of his reign, at the ceiling of his power, he does it, and it holds, and the plain flowers on as though nothing had ever threatened it. That is not the end of the chapter. That is the chapter proving what it has been saying all along: he always closes it.

And then the realm opens out, because that is what a realm is for. There is a whole kingdom to be in and no hurry to be anywhere in it — the far reaches of the plain, the country past the bloom, the places the court speaks of and the King simply goes to see. There are other tears, in other weeks, and not one of them is a crisis: he finds them and closes them the way a person closes a door behind them, and the apex faculty stops being a set-piece and becomes a habit. And there is the town, and its people, and the ordinary sovereign work of them — a roof that wants raising, a season's stores that want counting, a young one who wants shown how the smallest of the faculties is held. This is the longest and best part of the chapter and it is not a lesson about anything. It is simply what it looks like when a place is whole and the person who keeps it is equal to it, all the way, without strain.

He is in the town when it happens, which is the whole of it. Far off, in the direction of his own seat, the light changes — not dims exactly; goes wrong, the way the air went wrong out on the plain, but wider than that, and lower, and it does not stop. Every head in the street turns at once. The King is a kingdom's width away from the modest castle where his household is, and he goes.

The run back is the player's, and it is long. The realm that was a pleasure to cross an hour ago is only distance now — the bloom, the long water, the rise, the bloom again, the seat still a thin shape on the horizon and staying thin. Sound crosses that distance to him before anything else can: the far small noise of something happening where he is not, and light with it, flaring and dimming and flaring again over the line of the plain. It is a kingdom's width away and it stays there. There is nothing in it he can turn toward, or reach, or take hold of, and it is over while the plain is still unrolling under him. He is not slow. He is the fastest thing in the world he made safe, at the full height of everything he can do, and he is on the wrong side of it. Nothing in this stretch is a test he can pass or fail. There is only the ground, and how much of it there is, and the light ahead, which has already gone wrong and stays wrong the whole way in.

He comes into the hall and there is nothing left in it to meet. Whatever went through the room is finished and gone — no shape to face, nothing to seal, nothing to put his hands on — and the quiet of it is its own kind of wrong. What is still happening in that room is not the rupture. The child is where the child was set down, and is unhurt, and is not even crying; the small ward at that small throat is catching the light the way it always has. The mother is a few feet away, and she is not unhurt. She is still awake when he reaches her. There is time for very little, and she spends it on the child, which is the last ordinary thing she does. And then the realm learns, for the first time in its long unbroken life, that it can lose something.

What the King does after is the thing to remember about him. He picks up his child. He does not hold the child at arm's length, then or ever — there is no part of him that adds this up and sets it against them, and there never will be. He carries the heir back out into the sourceless light, and the plain is still flowering, and the light is still in the air, and every word said about this place at the start of the chapter is still true: nothing here is scarce, nothing here decays, the realm is safe and whole and the child is home. That is the ache the whole long road runs on. It was all still here. All of it but one thing, in a place where nothing is ever taken.

Key sites and spatial layout

Typed v3.1 site rows (§3b) — beats reference these by site_id; the environmental detail rides each row as env texture; the realm is the game's own dimensional space, its register anchored to the World Geography Master [SRC: T1_World_Geography_Master # 9].

Boss structure (§9 thin join index — phases are beats; the narrative lives in the beat graph)

Pillar-8 at the origin runs environmental by design: the chapter's encounter is a dimensional rupture — NOT an antagonist and NOT a person — so there is no boss-adversary here and none is invented; the apex-faculty tutorial is the set-piece, the ceiling demonstrated and felt so the whole arc's climb back to it lands [SRC: T0_Boss_Encounter_Registry @ BE_PROLOGUE] [SRC: T3_Core_Characters # 6.4].

The former CONDITIONAL is CLOSED by the eleventh sitting: the catastrophe is ruled ARRIVE-TOO-LATE with any fight heard and never played, so no combat-mode beat enters between CHPRO_B15 and CHPRO_B16, no second encounter row is minted, and the combat letter stays N under the v3 projection — the fold above is final rather than provisional [SRC: DECISIONS_PENDING_JOSH # RULED 2026-07-27 (eleventh sitting)]. The Chapter_Index cell reads combat=Y;puzzle=N for the same content under the pre-v3 encounter-present letter semantics — a vocabulary seam, not a value drift (see Decisions), and the amendment moves the cell's beat count and mode fold in the registry lane, not here [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_PROLOGUE]. Protected-chapter / living-culture framing (§17.1, standard care, the show-don't-tell absolute)

The Prologue depicts no living Earth community — the realm is the game's own fairy-realm space — but it honors the real Celtic Otherworld traditions and carries the arc's absolute show-don't-tell discipline at the origin. Mag Mell (the delightful plain), Tír na nÓg (the land of the young), Annwn's ever-abundant feast, the aos sí / daoine sídhe sovereign fair folk, and the féth fíada concealing mist with the sídhe-mound are honored each on its own terms as Layer-2 reference and echoed never lifted — no proper noun of the source tradition enters the game's own body-prose fiction, the realm keeps its own game-canon names, and no deity-name of the source Otherworld (Manannán, Tethra, the Chief of Annwn) rests on the King (HL_0099). The abundance and timelessness registers are borrowed but the afterlife/underworld framing of the sources is left out — the realm is emphatically a LIVING civilization, the King alive and playable. SHOW-DON'T-TELL is ABSOLUTE: nothing of the game's thesis or the Grand Sage is shown, hinted, or foreshadowed; the King's ten-thousand-year knowledge of the Grand Sage's nature is present only as serene silence (HL_0116), and his Temporal Sight reaches across time (§6.4, imprecise and conditional) but he gives no word of any of it — never a prophecy, no word of any tomorrow. The seeds the origin plants (the sovereign ceiling as the reclaimable birthright, the twelve communions as the Ch-1 pool, the veil/rift physics) read as the realm's own life on first play and reframe the arc only in HINDSIGHT. No antagonist, no House of Velheim, no pattern exists on any surface — every rupture in the chapter is unexplained, unauthored and unnamed.

The amendment's care register, stated plainly so no later pass softens or inflates it: the §17 floor is not in play — a parent's death in a dimensional accident is nowhere near it — and the correct treatment is WEIGHT, not omission. The death is played on-screen and briefly, with restraint rather than avoidance: a realm that learns it can lose, a King who is neither resentful nor consoled, and a child who will carry an unearned guilt the story never once validates. Three disciplines hold it. First, the death has NO AUTHOR — no targeting, no intent, no recurrence, nothing that invites the question of who sent it; the moment it reads as aimed at the royal house the arc leaks an antagonist pattern roughly thirty-eight chapters early. Second, the physics is SHOWN and never declared: the ward is on the child and there is none on her, and that is the whole of what any surface says about it — no line of narration, dialogue, Grimoire or HUD in this chapter explains what a ward does or why it matters. Third, the chapter must not become a tragedy: its first nine-tenths are splendour, mastery and service, and if the whole tilts into dread the ceiling stops being a place the player wants back, which would cost the arc its engine [SRC: AMULET_PROVENANCE_BRIEF # 4.3] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0116] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0099].
