Chapter 67 — Pohjola / Sariola: The Defense of the Sampo and the Reckoning of the Crossing
Story Spine entry, v3.1 beat→fork→state event graph (docs/SPINE_SCHEMA_v3.md), restructured in place from the v2.5 cascade build (the Louhi-rule re-cascade), spine_status drafted. The v2.5 anchors, prose, source-anchor provenance, and reveal discipline are preserved; v3 re-shapes the site/boss/beat/side-quest/scene/state blocks into the typed machine layer (join-and-type — no new canon authored). Re-cascaded to the AAA nine-realm Realm Road (CVD §19.8) and the granted Louhi fight (CVD §17.1 "the honored adversary / Louhi rule", ratified Josh 2026-07-12), authored to docs/proposals/CHAPTER_BUILD_TARGET.md and the v2.5 twenty-block anchor-hub schema, grounded on the RCM Ch 67 substrate (Pohjola / Sariola — the Realm Road's second otherworld; the Kalevala Northland; a Defense-of-the-Sampo contest that certifies the protagonist can navigate BETWEEN vril densities), the CVD §17.1 Louhi rule, and a build-time deep-research pass (the Kalevala Defense of the Sampo, Runos 42-43; Louhi's sovereign-matriarch scholarship; Iku-Turso; the Sampo world-pillar scholarship; the Pythagorean/Antikythera substrate; the Hyperborea-Thule and Vril-Society firewalls; two agents, adversarially cited). This is a CANONICAL HARD-LINE node (in the eighteen-node set) with STANDARD care, carrying an ELEVATED §17.1 duty: the re-architecture REVERSES the built node's "Louhi audit-only, the boss an invented Sampo-Warden" — Louhi IS the Ch-67 Defense-of-the-Sampo ultimate boss, fought in her iron-clawed eagle transformation as the HONORED sovereign matriarch defending her Northland's made-treasure (a dignified contest of arms, never the "evil hag" caricature, never racialized into an "evil northern race," never Sámi-conflated). Väinämöinen, Ilmarinen, and Lemminkäinen remain the culture's own honored heroes, never enemies; Iku-Turso, a genuinely-malevolent Kalevala sea-being, is the mid-fight escalation; the Sampo breaks by design, so the prize is the rift-crossing physics — a passage, not a possession. It carries an ELEVATED anti-fringe duty (the realm-name is the Kalevala's own Pohjola / Sariola; the pseudo-historical "polar Aryan homeland" occult lineage is excluded). The Stage-2 canonical-question set is resolved in the Decisions block (folded per the hard-line pattern). The §17.9 reveal ceiling binds: the L3 seed (the sovereign's rightful KEEPING as the honest form of the guardianship the family perverts into a holding-back) is FELT via the mechanic and never declared; the Grand Sage and the ultimate thesis remain held to Ch 77 (NO Grand-Sage hint), Cassius held to the fairy-realm confrontation. Drafted is not canonical.

Body prose
The second door of the Realm Road opens onto cold, and onto a song she has heard the far north sing for as long as the song has been sung: a mill that grinds out plenty without end, a made-thing of knowledge and abundance forged by a great smith for the sovereign of the north, kept by her behind nine locks in a hill of stone and copper with roots grown deep into the ground. This is Pohjola, the cold country of the old epic, and the treasure at its heart was not stolen into being — it was commissioned, forged as a bride-price, locked away by the one who owns it, the Mistress of the Northland, who had it made and who keeps it and whose country it feeds. The protagonist has come, as the old song's raiders came, to take it. She does not pretend otherwise. She knows what she is here to do, and she knows, standing in the cold, that the one who will rise to stop her is not a monster to be cleansed but a queen defending what is hers.
She takes it the way the song's heroes took it — quietly first, the great hall of the north lulled to sleep, and she moving through it not as an army but as a thief with a purpose, working the nine locks the only way an archive of number will open, which is to hold her seven seats in true alignment and solve the harmonics the locks are cut in — the whole-number ratios the southern brotherhoods heard as the music of the turning heavens, the geared reckoning a real people once cut into ordinary bronze small enough to hold in two hands. She does not raise a hand against the sleeping people of the north; there is no killing in a hall full of the sleeping. She works the locks, and lifts the Sampo, and runs for the grey sea. And behind her the north wakes, and the queen finds her treasure gone, and the defense begins.
It comes first out of the deep. The Mistress of the Northland is a sovereign and a sorceress both, and when she wakes to a country robbed she does what a queen does in a war she did not start — she looses everything she has to defend it, and what she looses from the black water to sink the fleeing boat is a genuinely evil thing, a terrible weapon and not her nature: the thousand-horned ox of the death-country, an old sea-horror the songs have always named a terror, no dignity in it and none owed to it, the malevolence the weapon's and never the queen's. This one she fights the way the epic fights it: not butchered but seized and overpowered and bound back down under the water under an oath never to rise, the raw and monstrous middle of the contest, the thing it is right to master and put down. And when it is bound and the sea goes quiet, the true defense comes — not a monster now, but the queen herself.
She comes with a war-boat and a hundred swords and a thousand bows, and when a spoken reef breaks her ship out from under her she does not fall; she remakes her own body into a colossus, the supreme act of the whole epic — five scythes for talons and six worn hoes for claws, the broken planks of her own wrecked hull for wings, the rudder for a tail, her surviving host riding on her wings and her tail, and she comes down on the little boat out of the grey northern sky like the oldest painting of this exact moment, the great iron-taloned eagle and the crowded deck and the treasure between them. This is the hardest thing she has faced on the road, and it is hard the way nothing cruel is hard, because the one she is fighting is RIGHT — the treasure is the queen's, the country is the queen's, and the queen is defending both with everything a sovereign has, which is her whole self turned into a weapon. She wins the way the heroes won: not by killing the queen, who cannot be killed and is not meant to be, but by breaking the eagle's grip talon by talon until the great bird can hold neither the boat nor the Sampo, and the Sampo goes into the sea.
And that is the point of the whole thing, the reason it was never a fight to keep a prize: the Sampo breaks. It shatters against the water and goes down, and no one carries it home. The great fragments sink and become the riches of the sea, lost to everyone as a thing to own; the small fragments wash to the shore and are gathered and sown, and out of them grows a lasting plenty on the land forever. Neither side keeps the mill. The queen withdraws to her cold country with a single sliver of the many-coloured lid, undestroyed, still sovereign, already promising winters to come — and she is left holding not a possession but a passage, because what the Sampo really was, under every telling the scholars have argued over and never settled, was the reckoning of the crossing: the physics of moving between one density of the world's living force and another, the same stable configuration the drowned sites all encoded, the pillar the turning heavens hinge on. She did not steal a treasure. She won a way through, and won it honestly against someone who had every right to stop her, and the winning left the treasure dispersed into a blessing rather than clutched in anyone's hands.
The cold does not lift, but it stops being a wall. She feels the quiet turn the road keeps making in her, and here it is the shape of a keeping: that a sovereign guarding her people's made-plenty is the honest form of a thing she has fought all her life in its rotted form — the guarded keeping that somewhere, in the ones who have hunted her, curdled into a holding-back, a hoarding of what a keeping is meant to feed. The queen kept the Sampo to feed her country; the ones who have hunted her keep what a keeping is meant to feed, and let it feed no one. The difference is the whole difference she has been living inside, and the road lets her feel it, cold and exact, and says nothing. Two doors remain, and past them the realm she was born to. She carries the crossing the way she carries the open letter — lightly, and as a thing that is finally, honestly hers — and she goes on.
Threads advancing
Thread 2 (The Serpent), NOT_PRESENT — a canonical no-anchor cell (ruled batch-1 #10; the Ch 33 / Ch 34-37 precedent): the substrate carries no Ch-67 serpent anchor, and none is invented (the serpent thread deepens at the Ch-68 primordial-listening) [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 2] [SRC: T0_Thread_Grid @ THREAD_02].
Thread 3 (Antagonist Family Pattern), ANCHOR — the Realm-Road turn: the sovereign's rightful KEEPING (Louhi guarding her country's made-plenty) as the honest form of the guardianship the family perverts into a holding-back — the family a curdling of a keeping meant to FEED into a hoarding meant to STARVE; felt via the mechanic and the contrast, NEVER declared, the family never named by the realm; the family cannot reach the Realm Road (the patriarch held to the fairy-realm confrontation) [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 3] [SRC: T0_Thread_Grid @ THREAD_03].
Thread 8 (Mystery Schools / Initiation), ANCHOR (build-derived; the roster sub-encounter) — the Pythagorean brotherhood at Croton (the akousmatikoi and the mathematikoi; the secrecy, the rule, the sacred number) as the mystery-school substrate the Sampo's crossing-mathematics draws on, and the lock-harmonics echoing its numerology; the honest institutional lineage before capture [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 8] [SRC: ESOTERIC_GROUNDING].
Thread 13 (Sacred Geometry / Architecture), ANCHOR (build-derived) — the Pythagorean harmonic ratios (the octave 2:1, the fifth 3:2, the fourth 4:3), the tetractys, and the "music of the spheres" as the sacred-geometry substrate of the crossing-mathematics; number as the order of the heavens, grounded in the real geared reckoning (the Antikythera mechanism), and the Sampo read by scholars as the world-pillar the heavens turn on [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 13] [SRC: SCIENCE_GROUNDING].
Thread 17 (Sacred Languages / Scripts), ANCHOR (build-derived) — the vault-lock notation (stone-cut) read at Adeptus Exemptus (Tier 8), the nine locks and the Sampo's making resolving as the Inscription discipline deepens; the origin-script mastery from Ch 66 carried into the Northland's own notation [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 17] [SRC: T1_Languages_and_Script_Master].
Major-thread coverage note — Ch 67 advances Major Thread 3 (grid-rowed) plus build-derived Thread 8, 13, and 17 (the roster sub-encounters and the crossing-mathematics); Thread 2 is a canonical no-anchor cell; the remaining Major Threads carry no Ch-67 grid anchor, permitted per D-19, flagged for the range review [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 2].
Civilizational marks (the builders-of-knowledge layer, §9.5 mandatory)
The Kalevala and the Karelian runic-song tradition — Finland's national epic, compiled by Elias Lönnrot (the 1835 Old Kalevala; the 1849 New Kalevala, 50 poems / 22,795 verses) from authentic Finnish, Karelian, and Ingrian oral runic songs (the runo/runolaulu tradition in Kalevala-metre, carried by named master-singers such as Arhippa Perttunen) — NOT an ancient manuscript but a 19th-century literary compilation of a living oral art; a cornerstone of the Finnish national awakening, its mythos flowering in Sibelius (Kullervo, the Lemminkäinen Suite, Pohjola's Daughter, Tapiola) and Gallen-Kallela (whose 1896 The Defense of the Sampo is the canonical visual staging of this very contest) [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 67] [SRC: SIGNIFICANCE_LENSES].
Louhi, the Mistress of Pohjola — the ruling matriarch and sovereign of the Northland: a powerful sorceress (tietäjä-class), a political leader who commissions the Sampo from the smith Ilmarinen as a bride-price and keeps it behind nine locks, gives her daughters in bargained marriage, and defends her country and its prosperity against raiders; a shape-shifter who in the Defense of the Sampo (Runo 43) remakes herself into a colossal eagle. The scholarly reading is a formidable sovereign/border matriarch, a complex ruling figure comparable in the comparative literature to Norse Hel — NOT the reductive "evil hag/crone" of later reception (the runo corpus also calls her sturdy and even beautiful); the "Lapland witch" trope that conflates her and Pohjola with the real Sámi is a documented distortion, firewalled here [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 67] [SRC: CROSS_CULTURAL_WEAVE].
The Sampo as a contested cultural symbol — the multi-faceted made-thing forged by the smith Ilmarinen (a mill of endless grain, salt, and gold, with the many-coloured lid, the kirjokansi), guarded, stolen, defended, and broken, its fragments still blessing land and sea: its true nature deliberately AMBIGUOUS in the scholarship (mill / world-pillar / cosmic axis / mill-of-heaven — Setälä, Harva, Haavio; the *skambhá "pillar" etymology tying it to the world-tree/world-mountain), the ambiguity a genuine feature of the folklore, and the Sampo's name still a living Finnish symbol of prosperity and creativity [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 67] [SRC: CROSS_CULTURAL_WEAVE].
Iku-Turso, the sea-horror of the death-country — the genuinely-malevolent Kalevala sea-being Louhi summons in the chase (the "ox of Tuoni," thousand-horned and thousand-headed; in the disease-charms the father of the Nine Diseases), bound by Väinämöinen with words of power never to rise again: a real and truly evil figure of the tradition, the legitimate carrier of the chapter's malevolence, cleanly distinct from the honored sovereign Louhi [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 67] [SRC: ESOTERIC_GROUNDING].
Pythagorean mathematics and the reckoning of the heavens — the Pythagoreans' tying of musical consonance to whole-number ratios (the octave 2:1, the fifth 3:2, the fourth 4:3), the "harmony of the spheres," the sacred tetractys, and the real brotherhood at Croton (the akousmatikoi and mathematikoi; Burkert, Riedweg) — and its honest material counterpart the Antikythera mechanism, the genuine ~2nd-century-BCE Greek geared analog computer (Freeth et al.) that modeled the Sun, Moon, and planets in ordinary bronze: advanced but not anomalous, unique in survival not in impossibility — the honest ground for a "reckoning of the crossing," never an out-of-place artifact or lost technology [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 67] [SRC: SCIENCE_GROUNDING].
The classical Hyperborea tradition and Pytheas — the legitimate Greek classical material of a far-northern land beyond the North Wind (Pindar's Pythian 10 and Olympian 3, Herodotus, Diodorus) and Pytheas of Massalia's real 4th-century-BCE voyage to the far north (Thule) — the documented investigative tradition, held DISTINCT from and never conflated with its later occult "polar Aryan homeland" appropriation (which the realm's Kalevala-native name deliberately excludes) [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 67] [SRC: ESOTERIC_GROUNDING].
Everything-woven (the twelve facets, each a real presence, none name-checked)
Combat is the Defense of the Sampo — a three-phase mythic contest: the lulled-hall raid and the nine-lock solve (traverse and solve-under-fire, no killing in a sleeping hall), the Iku-Turso escalation (a kaiju-class sea-horror seized and bound, not butchered), and Louhi's iron-taloned eagle Defense (the honored-adversary peak, the queen defending her made-treasure with her whole self remade into an eagle, her war-host at her back); the win is to break the eagle's grip talon by talon until the Sampo falls and breaks, never to slay the queen [SRC: T0_Boss_Encounter_Registry @ BE_0067].
Exploration is the Northland — the stone-and-copper hill vault, the lulled hall, the nine locks, and the grey Northern sea of the flight [SRC: T1_World_Geography_Master # 8].
Discovery (the Sampo's true nature as the reckoning of the crossing; the rift-crossing physics won; the sovereign's keeping as the honest form of the family's holding-back); puzzles (the nine-lock harmonics under configuration-pressure; the crossing-mathematics; the vault-notation) [SRC: T4_House_of_Velheim_Canonical # 9.4].
Lore (the Kalevala and the Defense of the Sampo; Louhi as sovereign matriarch; the Sampo's contested meaning; Pythagorean harmonics and the Antikythera reckoning; the classical Hyperborea tradition); trades (the Inscription discipline at Adeptus Exemptus reading the vault-locks); gathering (the crossing won, the second Realm-Road node passed) [SRC: T1_Trades_Master # 9].
Side quests (the crossing-mathematics mastered; the Sampo's contested meaning honored; the keeping-vs-holding-back seed); engineering (the Antikythera reckoning and the Pythagorean ratios credited as real mathematical achievement); folklore (the Kalevala and the Defense of the Sampo honored as living Finnish/Karelian heritage, Louhi fought as the honored sovereign, the runic-song referenced never reproduced); superstition (precisely what the chapter refuses — the realm is NOT a lost polar super-civilization and the Sampo is NOT an out-of-place machine; the corrective is held authorially, never voiced in-world) [SRC: T1_CVD_Creative_Vision_Document # 19.1].
Key sites and spatial layout
Story-load-bearing sites, each having cleared a significance lens and the §4 relevance filter; geography anchors to the World Geography Master, never the RCM [SRC: T1_World_Geography_Master # 8].
Typed v3.1 site rows (§3b) — beats reference these by site_id; the environmental detail rides each row as env texture.
env: the stone-and-copper hill where Louhi keeps the Sampo behind nine locks, the great hall lulled to sleep; the lock-harmonics resolve only by holding the seven vril-seats in true alignment (the Pythagorean/geared-reckoning substrate); no combat against the sleeping people of the north; hosts CH67_B01/CH67_B02/CH67_B03/CH67_B04; L1/L2/L3.
env: the flight with the stolen Sampo, Iku-Turso's escalation out of the deep, and Louhi's eagle Defense staged over the water (echoing Gallen-Kallela's 1896 composition); Louhi's war-host present as spectacle on her wings and tail, never combat targets; hosts CH67_B05/CH67_B06/CH67_B07; L1/L2.
env: where the Sampo falls and shatters, its fragments blessing sea and land, and the rift-crossing certified toward the next realm; the vril_site VS_CH67_001 crossing won here; hosts CH67_B08/CH67_B09/CH67_B10; L1/L3.
Inter-chapter travel — arrival through the Realm Road's second door directly from the Ch-66 Atlantis threshold (a dimensional-space crossing, no Earth-geography transit); departure through the Realm Road's third door toward the Ch-68 Apsu on the crossing won here [SRC: T1_World_Geography_Master # 8].
Boss structure (§9 thin join index — phases are beats; the narrative lives in the beat graph)
Sub-bosses across different threads feed one main boss; every fight is blended, primary-and-secondary-verb, three-axis, with phase escalation that evolves the moveset (HL_0078), and a reward on win and on death per the T1_Combat failure-states rule [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0078] [SRC: T1_Combat_System_Spec].
BE_0067 "Louhi, the Mistress of Pohjola, in her iron-taloned eagle transformation" (Thread 3/8/13/17; the Ch-67 Defense-of-the-Sampo ULTIMATE BOSS per the CVD §17.1 Louhi rule) · primary STRIKE · secondary SOLVE-UNDER-FIRE · axis 55/25/20 · phases [P1→CH67_B03, P2→CH67_B05, P3→CH67_B07] · win {ws.nemesis_memory_per_boss: +louhi_honored_adversary_parted_sovereign_never_slain; the Sampo broken and the rift-crossing physics won as a passage} · death {no fail-wall — solved steps persist; each failure leaves the crossing-derivation one layer clearer} [SRC: T0_Boss_Encounter_Registry @ BE_0067] [SRC: BOSS_PERSONAS # Ch 67]
sub-encounters (folded within Phase 1, no separate registry row): the Thread-17 Inscription vault-lock read (stone-cut notation, Adeptus Exemptus onset) and the Thread-8 Mystery-Schools harmonic-lock puzzle (echoing the Pythagorean brotherhood's numerology, the tetractys and the consonance-ratios) → both CH67_B03; Iku-Turso's summoned lesser sea-horrors as the escalation's adds → CH67_B05; the named Kalevala heroes (Väinämöinen, Ilmarinen, Lemminkäinen) appear only as honored referenced substrate, never reproduced and never targets [SRC: BOSS_PERSONAS # Ch 67]
ambient sub-threat: none beyond the phase escalation itself — the sleeping people of the north at the vault (CH67_B02) are never a threat nor a target, a protected presence only [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0003]
antagonist network node — NONE: there is NO Velheim operative or network node at Ch 67; the Realm Road is beyond the family's reach, the patriarch held to the fairy-realm confrontation; the boss is the realm's own sovereign defending her treasure, not a Velheim agent [SRC: T4_House_of_Velheim_Canonical # 9.4] [SRC: BOSS_PERSONAS # Ch 67]

§10b · Fork graph (no fork this chapter — a capability-and-honor contest, path-invariant)
Ch 67 generates no new integrity divergence and carries no player-facing fork: the Defense of the Sampo is a CAPABILITY-and-honor contest (mastery-gated on the seven-vril-seat configuration ceiling), not a divergence-generating choice, and the ending path is already locked (Ch 65) [SRC: T1_Integrity_Paths_Worldstates_Master # 3.4]. Per the schema's micro-fork promotion rule (§3c), a fork_node is required only where a branch writes durable state; nothing here branches — every beat plays through identically regardless of the locked path_bucket (the v2.5 entry's own side-questline line states this plainly: "path_bucket all, none gating"), so path_bucket ALL is asserted directly at §18 and in the scene rows below rather than staged as a degenerate one-row path_dispatch table. The moral reckoning the locked band would otherwise differentiate belongs to the Ch-69 Duat, not here [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 3].
The one durable write this chapter makes — Louhi's honored-adversary parting, read at the Ch-75 coalition-return — is typed as a plain ws write at CH67_B08 (ws.nemesis_memory_per_boss) rather than a mark_write, since it is not a branch outcome but the single, invariant result of the fight; CH_75's own Boss-structure block confirms the read ("Louhi of Pohjola, the honored adversary who withdrew sovereign, is NOT among them") [SRC: WHOLE_ARC_CONNECTIVE_WEB_INVENTORY # ECV-07] [SRC: CH_75 # Boss structure].
The v2.5 entry's three combined bullets are typed here as six per-slug SQ rows (CVD §17.6 canonical 12); none gate the main spine, per the chapter's own "path_bucket all, none gating" [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0032].

Key ally NPCs
No new ally NPC is introduced at Ch 67 — the Realm-Road otherworld has no living community the protagonist allies with (the sleeping people of the north are never combat targets and never reproduced; Louhi is the honored adversary, not an ally, and never the "hag" caricature). The found-family is carried per the Ch-65 healer's-child decision: the healer's child (CHAR_0002, Ntala) present into the realm on the Continuation resolution (held in the world on Departure, both viable per D-23); Ana (CHAR_0017), the melee blade; the accreted found-family; the familiars, inviolate [SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0002].
Real persons and traditional figures audit-only — Elias Lönnrot (the Kalevala's compiler) and the master-singers (Arhippa Perttunen) referenced as the documented folklore-record; the named Kalevala heroes (Väinämöinen, Ilmarinen, Lemminkäinen) honored and referenced/echoed only, NEVER reproduced as characters or made the player's foes; Louhi fought as the honored sovereign of the Defense of the Sampo, never the "hag" caricature; Iku-Turso the genuinely-malevolent escalation; the classical and mathematical figures (Pindar, Herodotus, Pytheas; Pythagoras; the Antikythera scholars Freeth et al.; Burkert, Riedweg) referenced as the documented record; the occult-appropriation figures (Blavatsky, the Thule Society) named only in the design/anti-fringe layer as the EXCLUDED lineage, never surfaced approvingly [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 67].

Protected-chapter / living-culture framing (§17.1, standard care, elevated Kalevala + anti-fringe duties)
Ch 67 depicts no living community the protagonist allies with — Pohjola / Sariola is the game's own Realm-Road otherworld, the Kalevala's mythic Northland — but it ECHOES living Finnish and Karelian cultural heritage (the Kalevala) and must hold it with elevated care, now under the CVD §17.1 "honored adversary / Louhi rule." The re-architecture GRANTS the Louhi fight: Louhi IS the Ch-67 Defense-of-the-Sampo boss, and this is care-positive, not a care-breach, BECAUSE of how it is framed. In the epic's own Defense of the Sampo (Runos 42-43), the protagonist's party stands in the raiders' role and Louhi is the WRONGED SOVEREIGN defending her own commissioned treasure and her country — so the encounter is a dignified contest of arms in which she is RIGHT to fight, never "a hero cleanses a monster." The dignity is load-bearing and specific: (a) she is genuinely formidable, not diminished — a shape-shifting sorceress who commands weather and her war-host and remakes her own body into a colossal iron-taloned eagle (the supreme act of the epic, immortalized in Gallen-Kallela's 1896 painting); (b) she is NEVER slain, captured, or crushed — she is repelled and withdraws to Pohjola still sovereign, already promising the winters to come; (c) nobody KEEPS the Sampo — it breaks by design and disperses as a blessing on sea and land, so the contest was never zero-sum. Louhi is rendered on the scholarly reading — a formidable sovereign/border matriarch, a complex ruling figure comparable to Norse Hel — and NEVER the reductive "evil hag/crone" caricature (a reception distortion; the runo corpus also calls her sturdy and beautiful; her magic is sovereign tietäjä word-and-song power — command of weather and shape — never "wicked spellcraft" or age-mockery, and carrying NO Sámi-specific markers, no noaidi drum or joik or gákti, so the tietäjä frame cannot slide into noaidi-coding). Pohjola is mythic geography, NOT a people: it is NEVER racialized into an "evil northern race," her forces are a mythic host and not an ethnos, and the cold-north otherworld never reads as a racial or ethnic bloc. The sharpest care line: Louhi and Pohjola are NEVER conflated with the living Sámi and NEVER leaned on through "Lapland witch" tropes as literal history (a documented distortion, given the Kalevala's own nationalist history and its part in the marginalization of the Sámi minority — the living Finnish, Karelian, and Sámi peoples are not the epic's antagonists; the comparative-religion parallel between Louhi and the Sámi Jábmiidáhkká is a scholarly datum about shared Proto-Uralic cosmology, NOT a license to identify Louhi as Sámi). The named heroes — Väinämöinen, Ilmarinen, Lemminkäinen — stay the culture's OWN honored heroes: referenced and echoed only, NEVER reproduced as characters and NEVER made the player's foes, and the protagonist steps into the raiding-crew role as HERSELF (with her found-family), never impersonating them. Iku-Turso, a genuinely-malevolent Kalevala sea-being, is the legitimate carrier of the chapter's malevolence (bound, not butchered — the epic's own way), cleanly split from the honored sovereign Louhi. The Kalevala-metre runic-song tradition is referenced never reproduced (its cadence and role evoked, no fabricated "authentic" runo presented as genuine tradition). The Sampo's scholarly interpretations (world-pillar, mill-of-heaven, world-tree) are honored as legitimate contested folklore scholarship, NEVER routed as ancient-astronaut / lost-technology / out-of-place-artifact claims; the Antikythera mechanism is the real ancient computational device it is (advanced but consistent with known Hellenistic and Babylonian astronomy), never an anomaly. The Frame-A Hyperborea/Thule firewall binds: the realm carries the Kalevala's OWN name, Pohjola / Sariola, and the pseudo-historical "Hyperborea/Thule = lost polar Aryan homeland" occult lineage (Blavatsky's polar root-race; the Thule Society and Ariosophy; the documented pipeline into early Nazism — Goodrick-Clarke) is EXCLUDED and its racial substance NEVER surfaced approvingly (the corrective authorial-only, never an in-game debunk). The §17.9 reveal ceiling binds: the sovereign's-keeping L3 seed (a keeping meant to feed vs a holding-back meant to starve — the family's corrupted form) is felt via the mechanic and never declared, the family never named by the realm; the Grand Sage and the thesis held Ch 77 (NO Grand-Sage hint), Cassius held to the fairy-realm confrontation [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0003] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0043] [SRC: T1_CVD_Creative_Vision_Document # 17.1].
Anti-fringe / Frame-A flags
The Hyperborea/Thule firewall (its core is polar-Aryan-homeland racism) — at-risk failure: reintroducing the pseudo-historical "Hyperborea/Thule = lost polar Aryan homeland" occult framework (Blavatsky's polar root-race; the Thule Society and Ariosophy; the documented pipeline into early Nazism), or presenting the realm as a real lost northern super-civilization. Canonical framing: authorial-only; the realm carries the Kalevala's own Pohjola / Sariola precisely to exclude that lineage; the classical Hyperborea tradition (Pindar, Herodotus, Diodorus) and Pytheas's Thule are legitimate Greek material held DISTINCT from their occult appropriation, and the game's Pohjola is its OWN Realm-Road fiction echoing the Kalevala's mythic north-land, never a real place or a real "Aryan homeland" [SRC: ESOTERIC_GROUNDING] [SRC: SCIENCE_GROUNDING].
The Louhi grant without the "evil hag," the "evil northern race," or the "Lapland witch" — at-risk failure: letting the GRANTED Louhi fight slide into the reductive "cleanse the evil witch" frame; flattening Louhi into an "evil hag/crone"; racializing Pohjola into an "evil northern race"; or conflating Pohjola/Louhi with the real Sámi / "Lapland witch" tropes. Canonical framing: authorial-and-design; Louhi is the honored sovereign of the Defense of the Sampo (RIGHT to fight, never slain/captured, magic sovereign tietäjä word-and-song not race-mystical, no Sámi/noaidi markers); Pohjola is mythic geography and not a people; the living Finnish, Karelian, and Sámi peoples are not the epic's antagonists; the malevolence is displaced onto Iku-Turso; the named heroes stay honored and never foes [SRC: T1_CVD_Creative_Vision_Document # 17.1] [SRC: SCIENCE_GROUNDING].
The "Vril" of the Northland vs the Nazi-occult "Vril Society" firewall (a live conflation risk in a north-realm reframed from Thule) — at-risk failure: letting the game's canonical VRIL read as the 20th-century occult "Vril Society" conspiracy myth (Bulwer-Lytton's "The Coming Race," 1871 → the esoteric/Nazi "vril energy of a polar master-race" lore). Canonical framing: authorial-only; the game's Vril is a documented in-world life-force substrate, and the crossing-physics reads MATHEMATICAL-NAVIGATIONAL (the Antikythera-tier geared reckoning and the Pythagorean harmonic order) and SOVEREIGN tietäjä WORD-AND-SONG (Louhi's command of weather and shape) — never a race-mystical "polar energy," never the Vril-Society conspiracy; the Bulwer-Lytton/Vril-Society lineage is held authorially as an EXCLUDED association [SRC: ESOTERIC_GROUNDING].
The Sampo and the Antikythera without lost-tech/ancient-aliens — at-risk claim: presenting the Sampo as a lost machine / out-of-place technology, or the Antikythera mechanism as an anomalous / alien / impossible-for-its-era artifact. Canonical framing: authorial-only; the Sampo's true nature is deliberately AMBIGUOUS in the folklore scholarship (mill / world-pillar / mill-of-heaven — a contested reading, not a hidden machine), and the game's "reckoning of the crossing" is its OWN L3 vril fiction echoing the motif; the Antikythera mechanism is a real ~2nd-century-BCE Greek geared calculator of ordinary bronze, advanced but consistent with known Hellenistic/Babylonian astronomy, unique in survival not in impossibility [SRC: SCIENCE_GROUNDING] [SRC: ESOTERIC_GROUNDING].
Three-layer surfacing
L1 self-contained: a genuinely playable, awe-and-dread endgame boss chapter — raid the nine-lock vault under a lulled hall, break for the grey sea, master and bind the thousand-horned sea-horror from the deep, and stand the Defense of the Sampo against a colossal iron-taloned eagle over the water, breaking her grip talon by talon until the Sampo falls and breaks — a real embodied boss peak with a solve-under-fire channel beneath it, complete as action, no fail-wall [SRC: T0_Boss_Encounter_Registry @ BE_0067].
L1.5 ambient culture and history: the Kalevala Northland lived and walked — the runo-song world of Pohjola, the Sampo-forging and the nine-lock vault, the grey Northern sea of the flight, the Gallen-Kallela staging — absorbed as immersion, the runic-song cadence evoked never reproduced, never a lecture [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 67].
L2 investigatable: the readable substrate — the Kalevala (Lönnrot 1849; the Defense of the Sampo as the culture's OWN heroes' great deed, Väinämöinen, Ilmarinen, and Lemminkäinen the honored authors the protagonist's raid echoes and never replaces; Louhi as sovereign matriarch; the Sampo world-pillar scholarship — Setälä, Harva, Haavio), Pythagorean cosmology (the harmonic ratios, the tetractys, the brotherhood at Croton — Burkert, Riedweg), the Antikythera mechanism (Freeth et al.), and the classical Hyperborea tradition and Pytheas — surfaced through the vault-notation and the journal, the occult appropriation held authorially as the excluded lineage [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 67].
L3 metaphysical-as-real, never declared: the same rift-crossing stable-configuration physics that the human-world Component-11 sites encoded really is what the Sampo IS (the world-pillar the heavens turn on — felt through the solve-under-fire channel and won as a passage when the Sampo breaks, never declared); and a sovereign's keeping of her people's plenty really is the honest form of the guarded keeping the family perverts into a holding-back (a keeping meant to feed vs a hoarding meant to starve — the "institution downstream of consciousness" deepened, felt and never spoken); nothing of the ultimate thesis is declared, no Grand-Sage hint given (the reveal held Ch 77), the family never named by the realm and felt as an absence it cannot reach (HL_0043/HL_0046) [SRC: ESOTERIC_GROUNDING] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0043].

substrate_sources the Kalevala corpus (Lönnrot 1835/1849; the Defense of the Sampo Runos 42-43; the Sampo and its scholarship — Setälä, Harva, Haavio; Bosley and Magoun translations; the runo/runolaulu tradition; Sibelius and Gallen-Kallela's 1896 Defense of the Sampo), the Louhi and Iku-Turso corpus (the sovereign-matriarch scholarship; the Lapland-witch/Sámi-conflation firewall — the Kalevala-nationalism literature), the Pythagorean corpus (Burkert, Riedweg; Iamblichus held late/hagiographic), the Antikythera corpus (Freeth et al. 2006/2021), and the Hyperborea/Thule corpus (Pindar, Herodotus, Diodorus; Pytheas; the Nazi-occult appropriation held authorially as the excluded lineage — Goodrick-Clarke) — consolidated to the acquisition list and the Source registry (region_tags Pohjola-Sariola / the Defense-of-the-Sampo / the crossing-mathematics, care tier standard-with-elevated-Kalevala-and-anti-fringe) [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 67] [POPULATE→T0_Source_Material_Registry].
rewards per-quest reward map authored in-intent — the second Realm-Road node passed, the rift-crossing physics won, the crossing-mathematics mastered, the vault-locks read, and the hidden-inscription fragment; loot and seed anchors deferred [POPULATE→T0_RNG_Drop_Table] [POPULATE→T0_Quest_Seed_Registry].

Decisions surfaced (the Stage-2 canonical-question set, folded per the hard-line pattern)
Ch 67 is a canonical hard-line node; the SSBL Appendix-A Stage-2 canonical-question set is resolved here (folded into Decisions per the hard-line precedent). The grounded and canonically-defined resolutions are APPLIED with reasoning shown; the re-cascade applies the CVD §17.1 Louhi rule (ratified Josh 2026-07-12), which REVERSES the built node's audit-only resolution of Q2.
Q1 — the Defense-of-the-Sampo + mathematical-navigation structure — APPLIED (RCM Ch 67; BOSS_PERSONAS; the deep-research): Ch 67 is the Defense-of-the-Sampo contest (the raid, the Iku-Turso escalation, Louhi's eagle-defense) + a mathematical-navigation capability channel, certifying the protagonist can navigate BETWEEN vril densities; the boss is the realm's own sovereign (Louhi), NOT a Velheim operative (there is NO Velheim node at Ch 67); STRIKE primary / SOLVE-UNDER-FIRE secondary, axis 55/25/20, three phases, no fail-wall (solved steps persist) [SRC: BOSS_PERSONAS # Ch 67].
Q2 — Louhi as the honored Defense-of-the-Sampo boss (the care call, REVERSED) — RESOLVED per the CVD §17.1 "honored adversary / Louhi rule" (ratified Josh 2026-07-12): the boss is LOUHI, the Mistress of Pohjola, in her iron-taloned eagle transformation — the honored sovereign defending her commissioned made-treasure against a raid, a dignified contest of arms, RIGHT to fight, genuinely formidable, and NEVER slain/captured/crushed (she withdraws still sovereign). This REVERSES the built node's "Louhi audit-only, the boss an invented Sampo-Warden." The honoring is load-bearing: she is right, she is mighty, she is never killed, and nobody keeps the Sampo (it breaks by design into a blessing). NEVER the "evil hag/crone" caricature, never racialized into an "evil northern race," never Sámi-conflated / leaned on through "Lapland witch" tropes; the malevolence is displaced onto Iku-Turso (bound not butchered); Väinämöinen, Ilmarinen, and Lemminkäinen stay the culture's own honored heroes, never enemies; the runic-song referenced never reproduced [SRC: T1_CVD_Creative_Vision_Document # 17.1] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0003].
Q3 — the Frame-A Hyperborea/Thule firewall (the load-bearing anti-fringe call) — APPLIED (RCM Ch 67; CVD §19.8): the realm carries the Kalevala's own name, Pohjola / Sariola — the pseudo-historical "polar Aryan homeland" occult lineage (Blavatsky's polar root-race; the Thule Society and Ariosophy; the pipeline into early Nazism) is EXCLUDED, its racial substance never surfaced; the classical Hyperborea tradition and Pytheas are held distinct as legitimate material; the corrective authorial-only. The Vril-Archive/Vril-Society firewall holds: the crossing-physics reads mathematical-navigational and sovereign tietäjä word-and-song, never a race-mystical "polar energy" [SRC: T1_CVD_Creative_Vision_Document # 19.1].
Q4 — the L3 "sovereign's keeping" seed — APPLIED (RCM Ch 67; §17.9): a sovereign's keeping of her people's plenty (Louhi guarding her country's made-treasure) is the honest form of the guardianship the family perverts into a holding-back (a keeping meant to feed vs a hoarding meant to starve — deepening the Ch-64/66 "institution downstream of consciousness") — felt via the mechanic and the contrast, NEVER declared, the family never named; it is a fact about the substrate/lineage, NOT a Grand-Sage hint [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 3].
Q5 — the Sampo and Antikythera without lost-tech — RESOLVED (anti-fringe, per the deep-research): the Sampo's true nature is deliberately AMBIGUOUS in the folklore scholarship (a contested reading — mill / world-pillar / mill-of-heaven — not a hidden machine), and the game's "reckoning of the crossing" is its OWN L3 vril fiction echoing the motif; the Antikythera mechanism is the real geared calculator it is (advanced but not anomalous), the honest ground, never an out-of-place-artifact hook [SRC: SCIENCE_GROUNDING].
Q6 — the realm rename + the registry scatter (build-derived, living-source) — RESOLVED: the realm is renamed from the retired coinage "Pohljar" to the Kalevala's own Pohjola / Sariola per CVD §17.7/§19.8; the Chapter_Index/Region_Index realm name, the Boss_Encounter BE_0067 persona (the Sampo-Warden → Louhi the Defense-of-the-Sampo boss), the School_Registry SCH_011 name, and the Vril_Site VS_CH67_001 name are scattered to match, the fidelity baseline refreshed in the same commit [SRC: T0_Boss_Encounter_Registry @ BE_0067] [SRC: T0_Vril_Site_Registry @ VS_CH67_001].
The Louhi persona — ADOPTED per the CVD §17.1 Louhi rule and the deep-research (the Defense of the Sampo, Runos 42-43; the sovereign-matriarch scholarship; the Gallen-Kallela staging): the honored sovereign contesting the raid in her eagle form, the STRIKE-primary embodied boss with the solve-under-fire crossing-mathematics channel beneath, the win-as-passage (the Sampo breaks), never slain; Iku-Turso the genuinely-malevolent bound escalation [SRC: BOSS_PERSONAS # Ch 67].
The v3 typing of "no fork this chapter" — RESOLVED (v3 conversion, 2026-07-15; Josh-override-able at any RR): the Defense of the Sampo is capability-and-honor-gated, not divergence-generating (the v2.5 entry's own integrity_divergence line says so, and its side-questline line already reads "path_bucket all, none gating"); typing a path_dispatch fork with a single ALL row would have added a degenerate one-option table for no real branching, so v3 asserts path_bucket ALL directly at §18/scene-rows and carries the invariance note in §10b instead of staging a fork [SRC: T1_Integrity_Paths_Worldstates_Master # 3.4].
The Louhi-parting mark (WHOLE_ARC_CONNECTIVE_WEB_INVENTORY ECV-07 and L-ARAWN-CONTINGENT) — RESOLVED-APPLIED (creative-within-vision, connective-web wiring): the v2.5 body prose and Boss-structure block already assert "Louhi... withdraws still sovereign" — the exact fact ECV-07 and L-ARAWN-CONTINGENT key the Ch-75 coalition-return off ("Louhi of Pohjola, the honored adversary who withdrew sovereign, is NOT among them" — CH_75's own Boss-structure block). v3 makes this explicit as a ws.nemesis_memory_per_boss write at CH67_B08 rather than leaving it implicit in prose [SRC: WHOLE_ARC_CONNECTIVE_WEB_INVENTORY # ECV-07] [SRC: CH_75 # Boss structure].
BOSS_PERSONAS.md staleness (registry-drift, docs-only) — ✅ RESOLVED (verified at the D-1 audit, 2026-07-20): the queued follow-up landed 2026-07-16 (task #58) — the whole BOSS_PERSONAS Ch 66-77 section was re-derived from the live registry + re-cascaded spine, the pre-reversal "Sampo-Warden of Pohljar" persona RETIRED (it survives only in the retirement/supersession notes), and the live BE_0067 header is "Pohjola / Sariola — Louhi" matching this entry (axis 55/25/20, primary strike / secondary solve-under-fire, threads T03/T08/T13/T17).
The Sampo-forging Blacksmithing craft-echo (WHOLE_ARC_CONNECTIVE_WEB_INVENTORY KM-07) — NOT AUTHORED here: KM-07 proposes a non-gating Trade-3 Blacksmithing forge-echo bonus beat pairing with the Ch-66 orichalcum node; the current CH_67 entry carries no such content anywhere (no Blacksmithing/Trade-3 mention in the v2.5 source), so typing it now would author new canon rather than join-and-type existing text; left for a future authoring pass, not this conversion.
