Chapter 60 — Japan: The Far Edge, the Forge, and the Vow
Story Spine entry, v3.1 beat→fork→state event graph (docs/SPINE_SCHEMA_v3.md), restructured in place from the v2.5 cascade build, spine_status drafted. The v2.5 anchors, prose, source-anchor provenance, and reveal discipline are preserved; v3 re-shapes the site/boss/beat/side-quest/scene/state blocks into the typed machine layer (join-and-type — no new canon authored). Authored to docs/proposals/CHAPTER_BUILD_TARGET.md and grounded on the RCM Ch 60 substrate (the Asia revisit RESCOPED to Japan per the 2026-07-08 coverage re-architecture — the flagship rescope), the T1_World_Geography_Master §7 Ch-60 Japan entry, T4_House_of_Velheim_Canonical §9.4, and a build-time deep-research pass (Shinto/Zen, samurai/tatara, Jōmon/Ainu/Yonaguni, Hiroshima/Korea/the counter-campaign, and name screens; five agents, adversarially cited). Japan is the one Asian civilization the outbound arc never reached; a node discharges the Care Doctrine where a link cannot. STANDARD care-tier, but three sub-nodes carry ELEVATED care: the Ainu (Hokkaido, CULTURAL_PROTECTED, on the Ch 29 Sámi / Ch 57 Aboriginal model, given a standalone layer never subordinate to the Yamato-samurai frame), Hiroshima (witness-depth, maximum care, never a combat beat), and the Japan-Korea colonial history (honest and balanced). Reached by the Vimana on the controlled-time-travel first-visit mechanic (the Ch 47 Mexico precedent), NOT the five-world-state revisit. Reveal-lifted (the House of Velheim nameable), but Cassius held Ch 76, the thesis and Grand Sage held Ch 77 (§17.9). Continues the Ch 59-65 Political-Access counter-campaign and the final integrity-accumulation window before the Ch 65 lock-in. The Ch 59-65 WS4 re-flesh re-tops this node with THE FACTOR OF THE CONCESSION (design-layer name Emmerich Vellmark-Croft; rendered in prose only as the factor / the concession-agent) — the recurring Sector-2 extraction champion, FULLY_AWARE, standing above the demoted Asia-desk counter-campaign director (Marrowquill, off-stage signed-order signature) as the extraction principal the manufactured-silence lawfare shields; re-specifies the abstract Iron Step materialized-construct DOWN to a family-forced (unattributed) bound tool-spirit of confiscated cultural objects (Construct-Kit Class 1, the arc's primary Pillar-2 net-reduce); adds the living yōkai / tsukumogami / yūrei tradition at playable, perceivable depth; and lands the boss as a DELEGATED-VICTORY (win-shape #4, companion mapping) won by an ally standing the record (the swordsmith Sōma Kōhei) and freeing the bound retainer by honoring its hollowed oath, the un-shameable factor withdrawing intact toward the Ch 65 convergence. The reveal ceiling (Cassius Ch 76, thesis and Grand Sage Ch 77, the forcing-hand unattributed to Ch 63) and every care line (Ainu kamuy sovereign, Hiroshima witness-depth, the wartime "comfort women" history never a mechanic, the antisemitism guardrail on the lawfare office) hold unchanged. The v3 conversion types the boss's phase graph at three phases (BE_0060.P1/P2/P3): the v2.5 "four phases" label bracketed its own middle content as "(2-3)" without differentiating it, and BOSS_PERSONAS plus the registry both resolve the same content to three distinct phases — reconciled at the typing pass, not a canon change (see Decisions). Drafted is not canonical.
Entry header (schema per §9.5)
chapter_id CH_60; region Japan (Asia revisit, RESCOPED — Josh-approved 2026-07-08) reached at the far eastern edge of the Asian journey, plus a bounded modern-Korea reflection beat; Jōmon deep-time, the Sengoku-Edo-Meiji arc, and modern Japan spanned by the Vimana's controlled-time-travel first-visit (the Ch 47 precedent) [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_60] [SRC: T1_World_Geography_Master # Ch 60] [SRC: EXPANDED_COVERAGE_MAP].
region_chapter_set — a node of the Ch 59-65 Vimana-enabled continental-revisit arc; the world-state reflection on the whole Asian journey (Bali, Sumatra-Java, Sri Lanka, South India, the Indus, Mesopotamia, the Levant, Arabia-Persia, the Silk Road, China, the Steppe) read from Japan's far edge; the Middle East reflection re-homed to Ch 61 (Japan is too far east to carry it) [SRC: T1_World_Geography_Master # Ch 60].
biome_primary composite — the Japanese archipelago (Honshū's mountains and river-plains, the Chūgoku iron-sand hills, Hokkaidō's northern forests, the Ryūkyū seas off Yonaguni) and a bounded modern-Korea beat; climate temperate-monsoon composite; in-world the far-eastern edge from which the Asian road is finally visible whole [SRC: T1_World_Geography_Master # Ch 60].
era present day, spanning the deep record by controlled time-travel — Jōmon deep-time (the world's oldest pottery), the Sengoku-Edo-Meiji warrior-and-peace arc, and modern Japan (postwar, Hiroshima at witness-depth) [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 60].
operational type POLITICAL_ACCESS with an EXTRACTION principal — the WS4 re-flesh re-tops the node with THE FACTOR OF THE CONCESSION (Sector-2 extraction champion, FULLY_AWARE), whose Asian concession here is cultural-heritage EXTRACTION: confiscating and trafficking the region's objects (old blades, shrine-fittings, temple scrolls) by lawful-looking paper, routed to private vaults; the House's Sector-6 counter-campaign (NW_0055, family-briefed) is retained as his COVER — the discredit of the public journal shifted from manufactured doubt (Ch 59) to manufactured SILENCE (documented SLAPP and defamation lawfare against the Asian scholars who catalogue the loss, each suit lawful and ruinous), the desk-director Marrowquill DEMOTED to an off-stage signed-order signature; the corporate target (manufactured silence) KEPT, now understood as the shield over the extraction; the boss approach the factor's extraction-concession over a DIRECT martial restraint-duel, the PLAYABLE combat routing through a family-forced (unattributed) bound tool-spirit (the Iron Step) and the factor's operatives, NEVER a community; the factor is un-shameable, so the win is DELEGATED-VICTORY (an ally stands the record); the patriarch does NOT appear (held Ch 76) [SRC: T4_House_of_Velheim_Canonical # 9.4] [SRC: T0_Antagonist_Network_Registry @ NW_0055] [SRC: BOSS_PERSONAS # THE FACTOR OF THE CONCESSION].
canonical_hard_line_flag FALSE — a standard-care node with elevated-care sub-nodes; the binding disciplines are the §17.1 cultural hard lines (the Ainu, Japanese, and Korean self-naming; the living faithful never a combat target; protected property referenced not reproduced; kami as a Thread-1 vril-PARALLEL felt not extracted, and kamuy held categorically SEPARATE from the vril), Hiroshima witness-depth (never a combat beat), the anti-fringe / Frame-A authorial-only rule (the Yonaguni "lost continent" and the bushidō-as-ancient-code myth held to the flags block), and the §17.9 reveal discipline (Cassius held Ch 76, thesis and Grand Sage Ch 77) [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0001] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0003] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0043].
prev_chapter_link CH_59 (Africa Revisit — the record and the counter-campaign onset); next_chapter_link CH_61 (the European revisit — the counter-campaign's next front, plus the re-homed near-East reflection) [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_60].
Continuity anchor (SSBL §9.3 — Ch 60 start state = Ch 59 end state)
The protagonist comes to Japan at eighteen, the young-adult plateau holding (internal age designer-only, never surfaced) [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_60].
Companions: the healer's child (CHAR_0002), primary companion and journal-keeper (the record public since Ch 57); Ana (CHAR_0017), the melee blade; the accreted found-family carried (the Ch-42-through-59 ties, incl. the African allies Yehia Maïga CHAR_0152 and Rutendo Mhofu CHAR_0153, rooted to their regions) [SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0002].
Identity concealment CONCEALMENT_WITH_HOSTILE_RECOGNITION — the pressure HIGH-AND-INSTITUTIONAL and evolving: the counter-campaign moves from manufactured doubt (Africa) to manufactured silence (the Asian legal front); the patriarch still absent (held Ch 76), the thesis and Grand Sage held (Ch 77) [SRC: T4_House_of_Velheim_Canonical # 9.4].
Mastery, ability, and familiar state: the Astral Projection ability (A_C_001) carried; the Vimana carried (the first-visit reached by its controlled-time-travel mode); the three forced Ether vril-seat bindings complete (Crown Ch 15, Third Eye Ch 38, Throat Ch 57); the F7 Andean Condor (Mastery) carried (biome-displaced), the Amazon river-dolphin (Ch 50), the Jaguar (Ch 48), and the Bowhead whale (Ch 56) carried, plus the roster; on the Truly-Good path the Child Familiar (the 22nd slot, reunited Ch 58) carried; the displaced SE-Asian revisit-bonds (the Ora Komodo BOND FORMATION + the Khan/Muthu/Kira revisit-reappearances) flagged for re-homing, not forced into the Japan node (Paravani F2 is a CARRIED ranging familiar, present in the roster, NOT displaced) (see Decisions) [SRC: T3_Familiars_Named] [SRC: T0_Ability_Tree_Registry @ A_C_001].
Body prose
She comes to the far eastern edge of the world, to the one Asian country the long road never reached, and from its shore she can see the whole of Asia behind her — the islands and the river valleys, the Silk Road and the steppe, every place she crossed on the way out — laid at her back like a road finally visible from its end. The craft that carried her under the ice and over the desert folds the distance here, and on this coast it folds a little of the time too, so that she walks the country across its whole length of years, from the first potters to the last century, and reads her own way home in it. Across the strait to the west lies the peninsula that first carried the Buddha and the brush to these islands, and that later built an alphabet from the very shape of the speaking mouth — a maker in its own right, which she does not mistake for a footnote to the country she stands in.
She goes to a forge first. In a valley where black iron-sand is washed from the hills, an old master works a clay furnace three days and nights without sleep, feeding it charcoal and sand until it yields a bloom of steel — made the way it has been made for a thousand years — a patient, clever answer to poor local iron, and because the people who kept the method kept everything else along with it. He shows her the folding that cleans the metal, the clay he paints along the spine so the edge hardens bright and the back stays soft and forgiving, the pale line of temper that surfaces in the finished blade like a horizon. She forges a sword. It is the plainest, most honest thing she has ever made, edge and spine reconciled in a single bar of steel, and holding it she finally hears what the country keeps trying to say to her — that the cut and the restraint are one discipline, that the hardest part of any blade is knowing when not to draw it. The old smith tells her, without any ceremony, that a thing made well and kept and used a full hundred years — a blade, a tea-whisk, a paper umbrella — wakes at last to a small spirit of its own, and must be treated from the very first day as though it will; and she finds she believes him, because she has spent her whole life learning that nothing is ever only an object. The country is thick with such spirits once you know to look — the tools that have woken, the grudge that will not rest until a wrong is set right, the imp in the river and the long-nosed thing in the mountains, and the newer ghosts that travel now by rumor and by phone — a whole living world of them, held with affection and a little caution, going about its business alongside the ordinary one.
She needs the lesson, because the family has followed her here and changed its weapon again. In Africa it bought doubt; here it does something colder and quieter. The man who runs its business on the ground does it the way a factor once ran a trading company's — courteous, unhurried, entirely without heat, weighing a country's living heritage the way another man weighs ore. What he is carrying out of these islands is their things: old blades and shrine-fittings and temple scrolls, lifted by paper that looks lawful, routed to private vaults across the world, and the loss made unspeakable by a slow snowfall of lawsuits filed against every scholar in Tokyo or Seoul or Delhi or Tel Aviv who tries to write down what is missing. The suits are only the cover. The theft is the point, and the clerk who signs the corrections is the smallest man in the room.
And the stolen things are not silent. A blade kept and honored for four hundred years does not become inventory quietly. The family's own reach — a hand she can feel working underneath the theft but cannot yet put a name to — has taken the waking spirits of the confiscated objects, torn from the hands and houses and shrines they belonged to, and forced them together into a single hollow servant: a retainer bound to an empty oath, with no lord left to serve and no purpose but to stand guard over the crates that hold its own stolen body. It is not a monster. It is a wronged thing wearing armor, and the binding wound through it is signed — she can read the mark now, the same forcing-mark she has half-seen at a dozen sites across the whole long road and still cannot place. The duel is the one the sword taught her: she cannot cut the retainer down, because a killing blow only scatters the forced spirits to be gathered and bound again, so she fights it the harder way, to a standstill and not a death, and frees it the only way a false oath is ever freed — by making it true. The objects go home. The blade returns to its shrine, the scroll to its temple, and the empty vow to guard these things is kept at last by keeping them where they belong; the spirits, released, go quiet.
But the blow that actually breaks the man's whole operation is not hers to strike, and that is the hardest and best thing she learns here. He cannot be shamed — he has weighed being known and loathed against the grant and moved on; exposure is a cost he has already paid and priced. What he has no answer to is a keeper of the record who simply will not stop keeping it. The old swordsmith stands up in daylight and enters the theft into the record himself, returns the first blade with his own two hands, and refuses to be filed into silence; and one clerk inside the apparatus stops correcting the truth and starts telling it. It is that — an ally standing the record, not her drawing the apparatus into the light — that collapses the whole concession. The factor loses the ground and, unbroken and unhurried, moves toward the next one. She lets him go. The win was never going to be his humiliation. It was the record, kept, in a hand that was not her own.
There is a shape under the sea off the southern islands, terraced and strange and very old, a thing the sea and the stone shaped together across unhurried ages, and she reads it the way she reads all the deep past has left in the earth and the water — with patience, and with wonder.
In the north she is welcomed, carefully, by people a hundred years of state policy tried to call finished. They are not finished. They name themselves — human beings, of the Land of Humans — in a language of their own that the state once forbade, and they keep a world of spirits that is theirs, and not hers, and not the country's to the south, and she is careful never to reach for it or read it as though it were the same current she has followed her whole life. It is not. It is its own thing, whole and sovereign, and the only honest thing to do with it is to honour it and leave it be. What she can do is stand with them: when the family's instrument reaches even here, to a people who have already outlasted a longer erasure, she puts herself between the erasure and them and asks nothing of what they hold.
Then she goes to the city by the river where one morning in August the world ended and did not, quite, and she does not fight there. There is nothing there to fight. She walks the park in ordinary rain among ordinary people and the schoolchildren's folded cranes, past the low stone arch with its vow cut into it — a vow that names no enemy and blames no one and only promises, on behalf of everyone who has ever lived, that we will not repeat the wrong. She has carried a private grief the whole road, the fire that began her own story, and here it meets a grief the whole of humanity carries, and is made small and right-sized against it, and she understands that the account she has been keeping was never only her own. She stands a long time. Then she leaves the way the living leave a place like that — quietly, altered, carrying it with her.
She has a sword she forged with her own hands and a promise she did not make but means to keep.
Threads advancing
Thread 1 (Vril Parallels), ANCHOR — kami, the Shinto sense of sacred presence woven through mountains, rivers, stone, and living things (Motoori Norinaga's definition; musubi, the generative interconnecting power), taken as the Japanese member of the vril-parallel catalog — FELT as a resonance beneath the country, never declared, and always honoured on its own terms as living faith (the real Shinto is not the game's vril; the parallel is a parallel) [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 1] [SRC: T0_Thread_Grid @ THREAD_01].
Thread 2 (The Serpent), NOT_PRESENT — a canonical no-anchor cell (ruled batch-1 #10; the Ch 33 / Ch 34-37 precedent): the substrate carries no Ch-60 serpent anchor, and none is invented [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 2] [SRC: T0_Thread_Grid @ THREAD_02].
Thread 3 (Antagonist Family Pattern), ESCALATION — the family's Asian front given a recurring extraction FACE: the Factor of the Concession, the loathed Sector-2 extraction hand, trafficking the region's confiscated cultural objects behind a shield of manufactured silence (the lawful SLAPP and defamation lawfare succeeding Ch 59's manufactured doubt); its supernatural asset the forced tool-spirits of those confiscated objects bound into the Iron Step, deployed UNATTRIBUTED (the family's forcing-mark, the forcing-hand resolving only at Ch 63); the family nameable, the patriarch still absent (held Ch 76) [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 3] [SRC: T4_House_of_Velheim_Canonical # 9.4].
Thread 4 (Flood Memory), ANCHOR (build-derived, cross-referenced to Ch 64) — the Yonaguni submerged formation and the deep-time submergence read as a flood-memory datum, the Ryūkyū sea-floor and the Jōmon deep-time the substrate; held as documented natural science and wonder, the "lost continent" reading kept authorial-only [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 4] [SRC: SCIENCE_GROUNDING].
Thread 8 (Mystery Schools / Initiation), ANCHOR (build-derived) — the initiatory Japanese Buddhist lineages (Tendai on Mount Hiei, Shingon mikkyō on Mount Kōya, Rinzai and Sōtō Zen) and the Zen sword-as-integrity discipline (kenjutsu and iaijutsu as a restraint practice), set beside the Chinese Chan of Ch 21 and the Korean Seon as the same substrate under three names (a Class-1 convergence datum, never a diffusion claim) [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 8] [SRC: CROSS_CULTURAL_WEAVE].
Major-thread coverage note — Ch 60 advances Major Thread 1 and 3 (grid-rowed) plus build-derived Thread 4 and Thread 8; Thread 2 is a canonical no-anchor cell; the remaining Major Threads carry no Ch-60 grid anchor, permitted per D-19, flagged for RR-62 [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 2].
Civilizational marks (the builders-of-knowledge layer, §9.5 mandatory)
Japanese metallurgy and craft-as-institution — the tatara clay-furnace smelting of iron-sand into tamahagane, a genuine empirical materials-science achievement (high-carbon steel from low-grade ore); the differential clay-tempering that engineers one blade with a hard edge and a tough spine (the hamon a visible record of a controlled quench); the laminated kobuse construction; and the swordsmith's craft as a transmitted, licensed art with formal apprenticeship, national appraisal (the NBTHK), and heritage protection (the Nittōhō tatara operates today) — a living institution of knowledge, not a lost secret [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 60] [SRC: SCIENCE_GROUNDING].
Japanese statecraft, letters, and aesthetics — the Kamakura warrior government and its pragmatic Goseibai Shikimoku legal code (1232); the Tokugawa administrative state (roughly 250 years of internal peace, a sophisticated bureaucracy, the sankin-kōtai network, a monetized urban economy); Jōmon deep-time (the world's oldest-known pottery and a complex sedentary forager society, UNESCO-listed, ancestral to living peoples); and the Buddhist-and-Shinto aesthetic disciplines (Zen ink-painting and calligraphy, the tea ceremony codified by Sen no Rikyū, the karesansui dry-garden, Noh under Zeami) with their philosophy of mono no aware, yūgen, wabi-sabi, and ma [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 60] [SRC: SIGNIFICANCE_LENSES].
Korean and Ainu achievement, credited on their own terms — hangul, King Sejong's articulatory alphabet (1443), a documented original phonological design; Seon Buddhism and the Tripitaka Koreana / Jikji knowledge-preservation tradition (cross-referenced from Ch 21); and the Ainu as a living Indigenous people with their own language (an isolate), oral epic (yukar), and material craft — Jōmon-and-after builders-of-knowledge, never an "extinct" or "vanished" other [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 60] [SRC: T1_Languages_and_Script_Master].
Everything-woven (the twelve facets, each a real presence, none name-checked)
Combat is the restraint duel and the freeing of a forced spirit — a direct martial engagement fought with the forged blade against the Iron Step, a family-forced (unattributed) bound tool-spirit made from the waking spirits of confiscated cultural objects (not a materialized rhetoric-construct — the arc's primary net-reduce), the kenjutsu-and-iaijutsu restraint discipline the integrity core (the cut and the sheathe the same choice), the retainer fought to a standstill and FREED by honoring its hollowed oath (the objects restored), never cut to a death; no living community, no real warrior, no war-dead, and never the Ainu or the faithful a target [SRC: T0_Boss_Encounter_Registry @ BE_0060].
Exploration is the archipelago across time — the iron-sand valley and the forge, the shrine forests and the dry gardens, the northern Ainu homeland, the southern Ryūkyū sea, and the modern city of the vow, spanned by the Vimana's controlled time-travel [SRC: T1_World_Geography_Master # Ch 60].
Discovery (the family's method changed from doubt to silence; the forge-craft learned; the far-edge reflection on the whole Asian road); puzzles (the tatara smelt and the blade's geometry; the lawfare apparatus mapped and drawn into the open; the Yonaguni and Jōmon deep-time read via inscription); mystery (whom the family still will not send — the patriarch an absence, held Ch 76) [SRC: T4_House_of_Velheim_Canonical # 9.4].
Lore (Shinto and kami; Zen and the esoteric lineages; the Sengoku-Edo-Meiji arc; hangul and the Korean record; the Jōmon deep-time; the Ainu tradition on its own terms); trades (Blacksmithing rooted here, its modern home; Tailoring a candidate); gathering (the sword forged, the scholars kept standing, the vow carried) [SRC: T1_Trades_Master # 3].
Side quests (the factor's concession and its lawfare cover mapped, the confiscated objects traced and returned; the restraint-duel; the deep-time read); engineering (the tatara metallurgy, the differential temper, the laminated blade, and the Tokugawa administrative state as documented achievements); folklore (Japan's living yōkai and yūrei world held with weight and affection and made perceivable — the tsukumogami that wake at a century, the onryō whose grievance is a stolen thing not a war-dead, the kappa and tengu, the modern urban legends — the aesthetics shaping the chapter's silence and pacing rather than lectured); superstition (the family's faith that a lawsuit can un-say a true thing if it is expensive enough to say — undone by the one keeper who simply will not stop keeping the record) [SRC: T1_CVD_Creative_Vision_Document # 17.1].
Key sites and spatial layout
Story-load-bearing sites, each having cleared a significance lens and the §4 relevance filter; geography anchors to the World Geography Master, never the RCM [SRC: T1_World_Geography_Master # Ch 60].
Typed v3.1 site rows (§3b) — beats reference these by site_id; the environmental detail rides each row as env texture.
env: black iron-sand hills washed into a valley in the Chūgoku region, the clay tatara furnace worked three days and nights, the swordsmith's workshop; a Sengoku-castle-and-Edo-townscape composite reachable via the controlled time-fold (the agility course biome, HL_0079); the confiscation-and-lawfare conflict and the Iron Step's forcing-mark also read here; the Trade-3 Blacksmithing modern home, the Katana forged; hosts CH60_B02/CH60_B03/CH60_B05/CH60_B06/CH60_B07/CH60_B08; L1/L2/L3.
env: the torii thresholds and the sacred forest of Ise (the Naiku inner sanctum off-limits, the approach and the shikinen-sengu renewal shown), and a karesansui dry-garden in Kyoto; kami felt as a Thread-1 vril-parallel resonance, honoured on its own terms, never harvested; hosts CH60_B04; L2/L3.
env: Hokkaidō's northern forests and a living Ainu community; self-naming (Ainu / Utari / Ainu Mosir), kamuy held categorically separate from the vril, the colonization history held with gravity; the family's instrument reaches even here and is stood against, the player never enacting colonization; hosts CH60_B09; L1/L2.
env: the submerged Yonaguni formation off the Ryūkyū seas, terraced and strange, shaped by sea and stone across unhurried ages; read as deep-time wonder and inscription (the natural bedding-plane-fracture consensus held authorial, the "lost continent" reading never a player claim); hosts CH60_B10; L1/L2.
env: the Peace Memorial Park in ordinary rain, the Genbaku Dome, the Cenotaph's subjectless vow, the folded paper cranes; witness-depth only, never a combat encounter, boss, level, countdown, or spectacle; hosts CH60_B11; L1/L2.
Boss structure (§9 thin join index — phases are beats; the narrative lives in the beat graph)
Every fight is blended, primary-and-secondary-verb, three-axis, with phase escalation that evolves the moveset (HL_0078), and a reward on win and on death per the T1_Combat failure-states rule [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0078] [SRC: T1_Combat_System_Spec].
BE_0060 "The Factor's Concession" (THE FACTOR OF THE CONCESSION / Emmerich Vellmark-Croft — PERSONAL NAME DESIGN-LAYER ONLY, body prose "the factor" / "the concession-agent"; Sector-2 EXTRACTION champion, FULLY_AWARE, recurring) · primary STRIKE · secondary RESTRAIN (and FREE as the phase-3 resolution verb — honor the hollowed oath / restore the confiscated objects / win the ally who stands the record) · axis 40/30/30 · phases [P1→CH60_B06, P2→CH60_B07, P3→CH60_B08] · win {ws.antagonist_operational_state_per_region: +factors_asia_concession_collapsed_retainer_freed_ally_stood_record} · death {graduated — the concession-map and phase-states persist (the Hades loop), a dropped concession-instrument seeds the whole-arc case file, no fail-wall} — the factor is UN-EXPOSABLE (already known and un-shamed, exposure costs him nothing), so the win is DELEGATED-VICTORY (win-shape #4): a community ally, never the protagonist's own exposure, collapses the concession; he withdraws intact, unbroken and unrepentant, and recurs to Ch 65 [SRC: T0_Boss_Encounter_Registry @ BE_0060] [SRC: BOSS_PERSONAS # THE FACTOR OF THE CONCESSION] [SRC: T4_House_of_Velheim_Canonical # 9.4].
sub-boss (each of its beats): BE_0060_S1 the Iron Step (Thread 1 / Thread 3, RESTRAIN/PURGE, 35/35/30, a family-forced bound tool-spirit of confiscated cultural objects, Construct-Kit CLASS 1, NOT a person, NOT a real samurai, NOT a war-dead, deployed UNATTRIBUTED; a WRONGED VICTIM FREED by honoring its hollowed oath, never cut to a killing blow; the confiscated-object tsukumogami read as WITNESSES to the theft; this RE-SPECIFIES the pre-rescope "materialized construct in the Ch 18 materialized-argument / Ch 28 ledger-serpent lineage" DOWN to a bound regional spirit — the arc's PRIMARY Pillar-2 NET-REDUCE; the vril reads mathematical and physical, the Vril-Society firewall) → CH60_B06/CH60_B07/CH60_B08 [SRC: BOSS_PERSONAS # THE CONSTRUCT-KIT] [SRC: aaa_ws3_modern_reflesh # Ch 60]
ambient/sub-encounters (no separate registry row): the factor's private security and its lawfare/logistics agents at the confiscation-and-vault texture (lightly-named operatives, never a community) → CH60_B05/CH60_B06/CH60_B08; the confiscated objects' tsukumogami as perceivable WITNESSES rather than enemies → CH60_B07; the Yonaguni deep-time formation as an environmental navigation-and-inscription sub-beat, read as wonder never a combat target → CH60_B10; guardian-trials in the shrine-and-garden approach (skill trials, not community combat) → CH60_B04; no sacred, Ainu, war-dead, or community target anywhere [SRC: BOSS_PERSONAS # THE CONSTRUCT-KIT].
antagonist network node — NW_0055 (CH_60) IS the champion-topped node (RR-62 reconciliation, matching the CH_59/CH_61 model; the registry row's own structured fields — Sector-2 EXTRACTION, FULLY_AWARE — follow the champion): its row identity and foreground boss is THE FACTOR OF THE CONCESSION, a WS4 gallery CHAMPION, with the family-briefed Political-Access counter-campaign vessel (Marrowquill "The Erratum", the Asian front) the DEMOTED off-stage signed-order layer WITHIN the node — never a separate NW row; the counter-campaign continues at Ch 61 (Gainsayle, re-topped by the Blind-Spot) and Ch 62 (Wall, re-topped by the Ledger-Hand) and reconvenes at Ch 65 [SRC: T0_Antagonist_Network_Registry @ NW_0055] [SRC: BOSS_PERSONAS # THE FACTOR OF THE CONCESSION].
reveal binding: the Iron Step's forcing-mark is unattributed — the family's hand felt across a dozen sites on the long road and still unplaced, resolving only at Ch 63; the family is nameable (reveal-lifted post-38), but Cassius stays held to Ch 76 and the thesis/Grand-Sage to Ch 77 — no beat below surfaces either [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0043].
phase-count reconciliation (v3 typing note): the v2.5 entry above states "four phases" twice but its own content differentiates only three (its "(2-3)" bullet already merges what would be phases 2 and 3); BOSS_PERSONAS ("Three phases EVOLVE, never swap") and the registry's phase_breakdown_object (three numbered phases) both independently agree at three — the §9 index above and the beat graph below type BE_0060 at P1/P2/P3, matching BOSS_PERSONAS and the registry; recorded in Decisions, not a registry correction (the registry already agrees with BOSS_PERSONAS).

The v2.5 entry frames the restraint-duel's mercy/killing-blow choice and the counter-campaign's clean-hands/family's-own-instruments choice inside one "sovereign choice" register — but the boss's own win condition (BE_0060, §9) requires honoring the Iron Step's hollowed oath and never a killing blow; typing a kill-branch as a real fork option would invent an ending the entry never authors (the CH_02 polo's-bargain-refusal precedent). v3.1 keys the sovereign choice as this aftermath trichotomy — HOW fully the restraint and the clean-hands delegated win are embraced, never WHETHER the delegated victory lands; the five texture bands are the DERIVED axis (§18) [SRC: T1_Integrity_Paths_Worldstates_Master # 5.1] [SRC: T1_Integrity_Paths_Worldstates_Master # 5.5].

Key ally NPCs
Sōma Kōhei (CHAR_0154) — the master swordsmith of the iron-sand valley (the Trade-3 Blacksmithing modern-home master; the character beat), a fictional composite of the living licensed-smith tradition, NOT a portrait of any real Living National Treasure; he teaches the forge and the cut-and-restraint discipline, and he is the chapter's DELEGATED-VICTORY ally — the keeper who stands the record in daylight, names the confiscation, and returns the first confiscated blade with his own hands, collapsing the factor's concession by a conscience received rather than by the protagonist's exposure (an alternative delegated path opens through a defecting clerk inside the apparatus who stops correcting the truth and starts telling it — non-gating, either ally can carry the win) [SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0154] [SRC: BOSS_PERSONAS # THE FACTOR OF THE CONCESSION].
The Ainu knowledge-keeper (CHAR_0155) — the Hokkaidō Ainu elder who welcomes and is stood-with (the elevated-care character beat), a fictional composite; the personal name is DEFERRED and Ainu-consultation-gated at production (the Ch-57 protected-culture precedent — the deep-research name candidates were semantically-loaded common words, unsuitable as a personal name without consultation); self-naming register (Ainu / Utari / Ainu Mosir) [SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0155] [SRC: NAMING_METHOD].
Carried: the healer's child (CHAR_0002), co-witness and journal-keeper (the record public); Ana (CHAR_0017), the melee blade; the accreted found-family (the Ch-42-through-59 ties, incl. the African allies CHAR_0152/0153); and the Asian academic network honored as allies-in-parallel (the cited scholars in Tokyo, Seoul, Delhi, Tel Aviv, and beyond); the familiars carried, inviolate [SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0002].
Real persons audit-only and credited, never villainized — the Buddhist and aesthetic masters (Kūkai, Saichō, Dōgen, Eisai, Sen no Rikyū, Zeami, Motoori Norinaga); the Sengoku unifiers and Meiji figures (Nobunaga, Hideyoshi, Ieyasu, Saigō, Nitobe); King Sejong and the Joseon scholars; and the real Ainu figures (Shigeru Kayano) — the family's thread runs alongside the documented history, never recasting a real person as its agent [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 60].

Protected-chapter / living-culture framing (§17.1, standard tier with elevated-care sub-nodes)
Ch 60 depicts living Japanese, Ainu, and Korean cultures and carries the universal §17.1 hard lines; three sub-nodes carry ELEVATED care. Every culture self-names (Japanese; Ainu / Utari / Ainu Mosir; Korean), rendered in a register of craft, scholarship, and living tradition, never "primitive / tribal / mystical-other" [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0006]. The living faithful, the Ainu, and the scholars are NEVER combat targets and never the antagonist — the combat routes through a family-forced bound tool-spirit (the Iron Step, a wronged victim freed not slain) and the factor's operatives (HL_0003, HL_0004). Shinto is a living faith: kami is honoured on its own terms (L2, Norinaga's definition, musubi) and taken as a Thread-1 vril-PARALLEL only as a FELT resonance (L3), with NO extraction mechanic on the sacred (no harvesting or draining of kami or shrine energy), the Ise inner sanctum off-limits (the approach and the shikinen-sengu shown), and misogi/harae rendered as devotion, never a buff [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0007]. The Ainu are a CULTURAL_PROTECTED people on the Ch 29 / Ch 57 model, given a standalone layer never subordinate to the Yamato-samurai frame: self-naming; the colonization history (the 1869 Ezo-to-Hokkaidō annexation and Kaitakushi, the 1899 Former Aborigines Protection Act, the language and hunting-fishing bans) held with gravity; the player stands WITH them and never enacts colonization as a villain-agent; kamuy held categorically SEPARATE from the vril (a sovereign cosmology, reverenced, never reskinned as the game's energy); the iyomante and sacred craft (moreu/aiushi patterns, ikupasuy, the mouth-tattoo tradition) referenced, never a mechanic or loot. Hiroshima is held at WITNESS-DEPTH (maximum care): depicted decades later through the Peace Memorial Park, the Genbaku Dome, the Cenotaph's subjectless vow, the paper cranes, and hibakusha memory — NEVER a combat encounter, boss, level, countdown, or spectacle, and never a "was the bombing justified" adjudication; the register is witness and "never again," resonant with (never equating to) Ch 54's Trinity motif. The Japan-Korea colonial history (the 1910-1945 annexation, sōshi-kaimei, language suppression, forced labor, and the wartime sexual slavery of the "comfort women") is held with honesty and care, never gratuitously and never as titillation, and framed as the wrong of Imperial-era STATE institutions, not a charge against Japanese people or modern Japan; both Korea and Japan carry full civilizational credit. Real persons are audit-only. The §17.9 reveal discipline binds: the family is nameable, Cassius held Ch 76, the thesis and Grand Sage Ch 77 [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0043].
Anti-fringe / Frame-A flags
The Yonaguni "lost continent / Japan's Atlantis" claim — at-risk claim: that the submerged Yonaguni formation is a man-made ~10,000-year-old sunken city (the lost continent of Mu, with pyramids and roads; Masaaki Kimura). Canonical framing: the scientific consensus (Robert Schoch and most geologists) is a NATURAL sandstone formation of parallel bedding-plane fractures and tectonics; this is held to this authorial flags block only, never a player beat; player-facing, the formation is read as deep-time wonder and inscription, never a debunk-smackdown and never asserted as a lost city [SRC: SCIENCE_GROUNDING] [SRC: ESOTERIC_GROUNDING].
The bushidō-as-ancient-code myth — at-risk claim: that bushidō is an ancient, unbroken "way of the warrior" of absolute unto-death loyalty (per Nitobe's 1900 Bushido: The Soul of Japan and the Hagakure), and that the katana is a mystical super-sword folded thousands of times. Canonical framing: authorial-only; the codified bushidō is largely a late-Meiji construction (the word nearly absent before 1600; medieval loyalty was contingent and transactional; Nitobe wrote for Western readers; the 1930s-45 kamikaze use was modern nationalist instrumentalization); the katana is a real, bounded metallurgical achievement (folding ~8-16 times to homogenize bloomery steel), its "soul" genuine cultural-religious reverence, not literal supernatural power; player-facing, the craft is shown as living empirical metallurgy and the sword-as-integrity discipline, never mystified [SRC: SCIENCE_GROUNDING].
The Jōmon/Ainu "lost race" and "extinct people" claims — at-risk claim: that the Jōmon or Ainu were a "lost Caucasoid/white race," or that the Ainu are "extinct / vanished / a dying tribe." Canonical framing: authorial-only; these are outdated pseudoscientific race-typology and a false erasure — the Ainu are a LIVING Indigenous people of Northeast Asia (legally recognized 2019; Upopoy 2020; an active language and cultural revival), and the Jōmon are ancestral to living peoples; player-facing, the Ainu self-name and are present-tense, and Jōmon builders are credited [SRC: ESOTERIC_GROUNDING] [SRC: SCIENCE_GROUNDING].
The Japan-Korea and Hiroshima revisionisms — at-risk claim: the "comfort women were voluntary contractual prostitutes" thesis (Ramseyer 2021), colonial-apologist "Japan modernized Korea" framing, forced-labor and Nanjing denial, hangul pseudo-origins ("copies of window-lattices / wholly from Phags-pa"), and any "was the atomic bombing justified" adjudication or bombing-conspiracy fringe. Canonical framing: the documented historical record is the authorial baseline, corrected ONLY in this authorial layer, NEVER voiced as an in-world player debate; Hiroshima's register is witness and "never again," never adjudication; hangul is credited as original articulatory design [SRC: SCIENCE_GROUNDING].
The institutional-discredit antagonist without the antisemitic canard (the load-bearing guardrail, carried from Ch 59) — at-risk failure: rendering the family's Political-Access counter-campaign as an ethnically-coded secret cabal that covertly "controls" banks, media, and governments (the antisemitic conspiracy trope, HL_0109), or mapping it onto any real Asian political/business dynasty. Canonical framing: authorial discipline — the counter-campaign is built from documented, mundane, LAWFUL institutional levers (SLAPP and defamation lawfare, funded intermediaries, credential and patronage capture), a composite office run by a recruited fixer, never a hidden hereditary cabal and never an ethnic conspiracy (T4 §498/506; the explicit antisemitism guardrail) [SRC: T4_House_of_Velheim_Canonical # 11] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0109].
Three-layer surfacing
L1 self-contained: a forge, a duel, and a rescued record across Japan — smelt the tatara and forge the blade, fight the restraint-duel against the forced Iron Step and FREE it by honoring its hollowed oath, break the factor's confiscation-concession by winning the ally who stands the record (the delegated victory), stand with the Ainu, and read the deep time — a real martial-and-craft-and-investigation loop complete on its own, the combat routed through the forced tool-spirit and the factor's operatives, never a community [SRC: T0_Boss_Encounter_Registry @ BE_0060].
L2 investigatable: Japan's documented achievement — Shinto and kami on their own terms; the tatara metallurgy and the swordsmith's licensed craft; Zen and the esoteric lineages and the aesthetic disciplines; the Sengoku-Edo-Meiji arc and the Tokugawa state; Jōmon deep-time; and the Korean and Ainu record (hangul, Seon, the Ainu language and yukar) — read via the Inscription and Engineering disciplines, credited to its makers [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 60].
L3 metaphysical-as-real, never declared: kami really is felt as a resonance beneath the country (the Thread-1 vril-parallel, felt not stated, and never extracted from the sacred); the hidden-inscription fragment really is one more piece of the long spine (impressionistic, §17.9-held); the cut-and-restraint of the sword really is the integrity choice made mechanical (the mercy or the killing blow); and the counter-campaign really cannot un-say a true thing by making it expensive to say (the structurally-fails-against-living-testimony law, felt); the family's occult reach is real — the forcing-mark wound through the Iron Step is one more instance of the same unnamed hand felt across the whole modern road, present but unplaceable (unattributed, felt not declared — the forcing-hand resolves only at Ch 63, never here); the kamuy of the Ainu is NOT the vril and is never treated as such; nothing of the thesis is spoken, no Grand-Sage hint given, the patriarch felt as an absence (HL_0043/HL_0046) [SRC: ESOTERIC_GROUNDING] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0043].

Decisions surfaced
Ch 60 surfaced these decisions; the grounded and creative-within-vision ones are resolved inline with reasoning shown (Josh-override-able at RR-62). This is a standard-care node (with elevated-care sub-nodes); no Stage-2 canonical-question batch is required, but several coverage/canon flags are recorded, one of which (the displaced familiar bonds) is genuinely cardinal-adjacent and routed to Josh.
The RESCOPE (Asia revisit → Japan, the flagship rescope) — APPLIED per the Josh-approved 2026-07-08 coverage re-architecture (EXPANDED_COVERAGE_MAP C1/C4; COVERAGE_REARCHITECTURE D1/D8/D10 §4.2/§4.6; the WGM §7 Ch-60 entry already rewritten to Japan): Japan authored as the anchor with a bounded modern-Korea beat, on the controlled-time-travel first-visit mechanic (the Ch 47 precedent); the Middle East reflection re-homed to Ch 61; the Ainu and Korea carry genuine standalone weight, not subordinate to the Yamato-samurai frame (the §4.6 guardrail) [SRC: EXPANDED_COVERAGE_MAP].
The displaced SE-Asian familiar revisit-bonds — FLAGGED FOR JOSH (D-22, cardinal-adjacent, NOT invented around): the Japan rescope displaced several familiar beats that T3_Familiars_Named §6.3 homes at the pre-rescope "Ch 60 Asia composite revisit" — most significantly the Ora Komodo-dragon BOND FORMATION (a legendary-familiar bond, the modern-arc-first-bond, requiring Ch 02-03 Manggarai faction standing), plus the Khan (Sumatran tiger), Muthu (elephant), and Kira (Balinese bird) adult-revisit reappearances (Paravani F2, a RANGING familiar, travels and is present regardless, so it is not displaced). With Ch 60 now Japan and no dedicated SE-Asia revisit node in the Ch 59-65 arc, these need conscious re-homing (candidate: a Vimana-band excursion mechanic, since the band affords free simultaneous travel; alternatives: fold into an adjacent revisit node, or a Josh ruling). This touches numerical familiar canon (33 species / 22 slots) and the coverage schedule, so it is Josh's; the Japan node is built clean without forcing them, and the stale T3_Familiars "Ch 60 Asia Revisit (Sumatra/Bali/Flores/etc.)" references are LEFT for the re-home decision rather than corrected to a guessed target [SRC: T3_Familiars_Named].
The kami (and Korean mu/muism) Thread-1 vril-parallel terms — RESOLVED-APPLIED as RECORDED CANON (NOT a pending flag): T1_Threads_22 §Thread-1's 2026-07-08 coverage-re-architecture parallel-term catalog already lists kami (Ch 60 Japan, per Motoori Norinaga) and mu/muism (Korean musok, Ch 21 / Ch 60), and correctly EXCLUDES kamuy. kami is held FELT (L3) and honoured on its own terms (L2), with NO extraction mechanic on the sacred; mu/muism is likewise a living faith honoured on its own terms and NOT extracted, its player-facing rendering carried where Korean faith is rendered (not this bounded reflection beat); kamuy (Ainu) stays a sovereign cosmology, reverenced and never the vril [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 1].
Trade 3 Blacksmithing modern home = Ch 60 — RESOLVED-APPLIED (the registry already assigns TRADE_03 modern home to Ch_60; the tatara/tamahagane fill of the Continental_revisit_Asia placeholder is firm, ancient home Ch 7). Trade 6 Tailoring (kimono) modern home — SURFACED as a strong Ch-60 candidate, the hard pin then DEFERRED to the Ch 59-65 trade-home distribution (a multi-chapter allocation, per the Ch 59 Trade-1 convention); RESOLVED and ENACTED 2026-07-27 at the Phase 6 trade-pin batch — Trade 6 pins Ch 60 on the kimono/textile hook the node itself named, T1_Trades_Master §3.11 closed, with T0_Trade_Registry and the CH_60 Chapter_Index trade_content_chapters cell carrying the mirror [SRC: T1_Trades_Master # 3] [SRC: T1_Trades_Master # 3.11].
The Katana native home + the Nunchuks/Shuriken re-point — RESOLVED-APPLIED (Katana WPN_010 rooted natively at Ch 60 via the Trade-3 tatara, roster-availability not a fifth HL_0056 anchor) + FLAGGED (the Nunchuks WPN_045 / Shuriken WPN_050 re-point from the Ch 21 Chinese-cognate anchor to a Japan/Okinawa facet per WEAPON_SYSTEM_PROPOSAL §6.1 — a decision interaction, the 72-count unaffected either way) [SRC: T0_Weapon_Registry @ WPN_010].
The Ainu present-tense agency (RR-62 / production) — FLAGGED: at the spine level the Ainu are a genuine standalone protected layer (self-naming, sovereignty, the colonization history, the credited language/yukar/craft across the blocks), but in the BODY PROSE they appear chiefly in a sovereign-but-stood-with posture; the rendered scene at production should surface their OWN living vitality and agency (the keeper's craft, the language revival, a yukar shown) so the standalone layer is FELT in prose and not only asserted in the anchors — flagged for the RR-62 Layer-3 / production pass.
The counter-campaign operative — ADOPTED the canonical BOSS_PERSONAS Ch-60 persona Silas Marrowquill "The Erratum" (NW_0055), CORRECTING an earlier build-draft invention ("Konrad Halstrup"): the enrich boss_personas lookup returned NOT_FOUND for both Ch 59 and Ch 60, silently missing the designed, adversarially-reviewed five-front Sector-6 desk-director roster (Kannbrandt/Africa, Marrowquill/Asia, Gainsayle/Europe, Wall/Americas, Sunken-Deed/Pacific) — of which the FOUR CONTINENTAL directors (Kannbrandt/Marrowquill/Gainsayle/Wall) reconvene at the Ch-65 recombination-exam per BOSS_PERSONAS §1317 (Sunken-Deed/Pacific, Ch 63, is the fifth front, NOT in the Ch-65 exam) — an enrich-tooling gap FLAGGED. GOING FORWARD Ch 61 MUST use Gainsayle, Ch 62 Wall, Ch 63 Sunken-Deed; Ch 59's earlier-invented "Osterhagen" is reconciled to Kannbrandt in a separate living-source pass. The swordsmith Sōma Kōhei (CHAR_0154) was SET via NAMING_METHOD (LOW-risk, screened clear of the Living National Treasure smiths + Masamune/Muramasa). The Ainu knowledge-keeper (CHAR_0155) name is DEFERRED and Ainu-consultation-gated at production (the Ch-57 protected-culture precedent), finalized at the RR-62 Layer-3 pass [SRC: BOSS_PERSONAS # Ch 60] [SRC: NAMING_METHOD].
The WS4 re-flesh + the win-shape fork — RESOLVED and APPLIED: (a) the node re-topped by THE FACTOR OF THE CONCESSION (the recurring Sector-2 extraction champion, FULLY_AWARE, above the desk-director) with the win-shape LOCKED to DELEGATED-VICTORY — an ally stands the record (the swordsmith / a defecting clerk), the un-shameable factor withdrawing intact toward Ch 65; the 59/60/62 win-shape fork the scope flagged is CLOSED per BOSS_PERSONAS (the five-win-shapes RESOLVED block) + Open-Decisions dossier #4 (the companion mapping — 59 front-not-fully-break / 60 delegated / 61 personal-cost / 62 siege / 63 magic-duel), and the Verderer + Factor persona gap the scope flagged is CLOSED (both authored in BOSS_PERSONAS by task #57); the champion PERSONAL name (Emmerich Vellmark-Croft) is held DESIGN-LAYER only, body prose rendering "the factor" / "the concession-agent"; (b) the desk-director Marrowquill DEMOTED to the off-stage signed-order signature (his manufactured-silence lawfare retained as the factor's cover, reconvening at Ch 65); (c) the MATERIALIZED-ARGUMENT NET-REDUCE delivered — the Iron Step re-specified DOWN from an abstract "Ch 18 materialized-argument / Ch 28 ledger-serpent" construct to a family-forced (unattributed) bound tool-spirit of confiscated cultural objects (Construct-Kit CLASS 1), a WRONGED VICTIM FREED by honoring its hollowed oath (the objects restored), never fought to a killing blow; the forcing-mark deployed UNATTRIBUTED (the forcing-hand resolves only at Ch 63); (d) the living yōkai / tsukumogami / yūrei half restored at playable, perceivable depth (the tsukumogami as witnesses to the theft); (e) the elevated-care lines HELD unchanged and re-checked against the arming edit — the onryō/tsukumogami are tool-spirits of confiscated OBJECTS (never war-dead), the wartime "comfort women" history never a mechanic or a bound-ghost, Ainu kamuy sovereign and never bound, Hiroshima witness-depth and never a combat beat, the antisemitism guardrail (HL_0109) on the lawfare office held; mode DIRECT + intensity STANDARD preserved (Ch 59 env / Ch 60 direct / Ch 61 stealth clears HL_0049; Ch 58 peak / Ch 59 valley / Ch 60 standard clears HL_0048); the reveal-window "Cassius Ch 76 / thesis Ch 77" convention KEPT stale per REVEAL_WINDOW_REALIGNMENT (the modern-arc atomic pass, not a per-file fix) [SRC: BOSS_PERSONAS # THE FACTOR OF THE CONCESSION] [SRC: BOSS_PERSONAS # THE CONSTRUCT-KIT].
The v3.1 beat/fork/state conversion (this pass, 2026-07-15) — RESOLVED-APPLIED: the v2.5 twenty-block form re-shaped in place into 12 typed CH60_Bnn beats, one typed fork (FORK_CH60_A, the sovereign-choice aftermath trichotomy), a §9 thin boss index (BE_0060 at P1/P2/P3), 5 typed site rows, 7 typed SQ rows, a 6-row scene table, and new §18 derived-state axes + Seam state-diffs sections; every v2.5 fact traced to a beat, a site env line, or a kept block — none dropped [SRC: V3_CONVERSION_RUNBOOK].
The BE_0060 phase-count reconciliation (four → three) — RESOLVED (v3 typing, Josh-override-able at any RR): the v2.5 entry states "four phases" twice (Boss structure, Mechanical anchors) but its own "(2-3)" bracket admits the middle content is undifferentiated; BOSS_PERSONAS ("Three phases EVOLVE, never swap") and the registry's phase_breakdown_object (three numbered phases, matching BOSS_PERSONAS verbatim) both independently resolve to three. Adjudicated per the runbook's registry-drift protocol (adjudicate against BOSS_PERSONAS + the spine): BOSS_PERSONAS and the registry AGREE with each other; the v2.5 spine's "four phases" LABEL is the outlier against its own cited source and its own undifferentiated content. Typed BE_0060.P1/P2/P3 (CH60_B06/B07/B08). No registry cell needs correcting (the registry already matches BOSS_PERSONAS) — nothing queued to registry_corrections for this item [SRC: BOSS_PERSONAS # THE FACTOR OF THE CONCESSION] [SRC: T0_Boss_Encounter_Registry @ BE_0060].
The combat-zone site placement (forge_valley hosts the boss fight) — RESOLVED (placement judgment, not new canon): the v2.5 entry's Key Sites section never names a "vault" or "confiscation" site, and the original Mechanical-anchors encounter_mode/zone line left the restraint-duel's physical location unstated; since the delegated-victory ally (Sōma Kōhei) works at the forge and the objects are ultimately returned to their shrines/temples from somewhere he controls, the forge_valley site (already the swordsmith's ground) is the most textually-grounded location and was typed as the host for CH60_B05-CH60_B08; forge_valley's protected flag set true and its functions expanded to include investigation and combat to cover the beats now hosted there (per the runbook's site-functions-must-cover-hosted-beats rule) [SRC: T1_World_Geography_Master # Ch 60].
The shrine_forest_and_dry_garden beat (CH60_B04) — RESOLVED-APPLIED (load-bearing content must survive somewhere): the v2.5 entry's Key Sites, Threads (Thread 1 kami ANCHOR), and Protected-chapter framing all assert real content here (the torii thresholds, the Ise inner sanctum, the karesansui garden, kami felt not extracted) that the v2.5 Main-quest-beats/Body-prose never narrated as a discrete scene; a new typed beat was authored (join-and-type: no new facts, only a new beat-container for facts the v2.5 entry already asserts elsewhere) so this content and Thread 1's carrier requirement both survive in the beat graph rather than only in prose blocks [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 1].
Connective-web items found but NOT applied (transparency, per the grounding protocol) — L-OP-KILL-65 (an offered lethal path against the Factor, feeding a differential Ch-65 convergence), ECV-08 (freed spirits re-bound at Ch 65 and freed again at Ch 75), and FR-03 (a modern-arc community-reputation coalition wing at Ch 75) all reference this chapter's content (the Factor, the Iron Step, Sōma Kōhei, the Ainu keeper) but are each tagged NEW / CREATIVE_WITHIN_VISION in docs/proposals/WHOLE_ARC_CONNECTIVE_WEB_INVENTORY.md — proposals for chapters not yet built in v3, not content the v2.5 CH_60 entry itself carries (it cites no ECV-/IR-/LINK_/FR- id). None were retrofitted into the beat/fork graph; a kill-branch against the factor was NOT added (the v2.5 entry is explicit the win was never going to be his humiliation, and the boss's own win condition never offers one) [SRC: WHOLE_ARC_CONNECTIVE_WEB_INVENTORY].
BE_0060 primary/secondary verb naming (transparency, no change made) — NOTED, not corrected: BOSS_PERSONAS' own Ch-60 Combat prose names the verbs "infiltrate → witness-delegation" (primary) and "structural sabotage" (secondary), but the v2.5 CH_60.md entry (both before and after this conversion) and the T0_Boss_Encounter_Registry BE_0060 row independently agree on STRIKE (primary) / RESTRAIN (secondary, +FREE as the phase-3 resolution verb) — matching the chapter's own body prose, which is a physical forged-blade duel, not an infiltration. Since the spine and the registry AGREE with each other (the reverse of the phase-count case, where registry+personas agreed against the spine), and the agreeing pair reads truer to this chapter's actual narrative, STRIKE/RESTRAIN was typed as-is; no registry cell was touched. Axis 40/30/30 matches across all three sources (BOSS_PERSONAS, registry, spine) — only the verb LABELS differ [SRC: BOSS_PERSONAS # THE FACTOR OF THE CONCESSION] [SRC: T0_Boss_Encounter_Registry @ BE_0060].
