Chapter 42 — Caribbean / Haiti: The Revolution's Debt
Story Spine entry, v3.1 beat→fork→state event graph (docs/SPINE_SCHEMA_v3.md), restructured in place from the v2.5 cascade build, spine_status drafted. The v2.5 anchors, prose, source-anchor provenance, and reveal discipline are preserved; v3 re-shapes the site/boss/beat/side-quest/scene/state blocks into the typed machine layer (join-and-type — no new canon authored). Grounded on the enrich.py pack and the BE_0042 boss build. HIGH-CARE HARD-LINE chapter (CVD §17.1 / HL_0009, one of the three elevated-care hard-line nodes — Ch 29 Sámi, Ch 42 Haiti, Ch 57 Australia), rendered at MAXIMUM care (the D-05 ruling): Haitian Vodou is a living religion rendered as the community understands itself, never zombie-horror; the protagonist WITNESSES and never performs; the Vodou community and its houngan and mambo are inviolate and never a combat target; veve and ceremonial content are referenced not reproduced, and the bòkò/serving-and-harming duality is the tradition's own internal category, handled with weight, never horror-tropified. Reveal-timing note — the reveal is LIFTED (the House of Velheim may be named player-facing, the modern hunt two-directional); HELD still: the patriarch Cassius (the FINANCIAL vessel operates in his own Sector-1 Central Banking, but the chain up runs into the nameless Velheim ledger — Cassius surfaces at Ch 76), the full thesis (the Ch 77 Grand Sage, §17.9 / HL_0043), and the bought baka's forging hand (unattributed until Ch 63). Drafted is not canonical; a hard-line node carries a Stage-2 canonical-question set (docs/spine/stage2/CH_42_STAGE2.md) and author-in-loop at Stage 4.
region_primary Haiti and the northern Caribbean in the present day — Port-au-Prince (approximately 18.59°N, 72.30°W) as the modern-financial frame, the Bois Caïman site near Morne-Rouge on the northern plain (the 1791 time-fluctuation core), Cap-Haïtien (approximately 19.76°N, 72.20°W) and the Citadelle Laferrière / Sans-Souci (UNESCO 1982), region_id caribbean_haiti [SRC: T1_World_Geography_Master # Ch 42].
region_secondary the northern plain's revolutionary-era plantation country (the 1791 strand) and the Paris-banking archive the indemnity ran through (Banque Nationale d'Haiti, Crédit Industriel et Commercial) — a documentary geography, not a place she walks [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_42].
region_chapter_set — this page anchors Ch 42 at Caribbean / Haiti as the modern-arc's Americas opening and the Atlantic diaspora peak; per the coverage re-architecture the modern chapters LENGTHEN to carry more region, history, and institution (the Revolution, the indemnity, the disaster-capitalism overlay) — authored to that fuller modern scope, not a further SPREAD/RESCOPE target; the next node Ch 43 (the Sea Islands / Gullah) continues the diaspora arc [SRC: EXPANDED_COVERAGE_MAP] [SRC: CULTURAL_COVERAGE_AUDIT].
biome_primary the tropical Caribbean — the northern coastal plain and Port-au-Prince's dense urban lowland, the mountainous interior of the Citadelle, and the sacred grove of Bois Caïman; climate tropical-maritime with a hurricane-season overlay, the land's history (who was freed on it, who was billed for it) the primary frame [SRC: T1_World_Geography_Master # Ch 42].
era present day, with a canonical Bois Caïman 1791 time-fluctuation sequence as the chapter's metaphysical core — the two eras converge at the ceremony grove; the post-2010-earthquake disaster-capitalism overlay stands as the recent historical ground [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_42].
range_id R_39_50; spine_status drafted; canonical_hard_line_flag TRUE; author_in_loop_required TRUE (a high-care hard-line node — the living Vodou tradition, the real revolutionary figures, the witness-not-performing discipline, and the §17.1 source-processing gate are the care points); cultural_depiction_tier high [SRC: T1_Build_Pipeline_Contracts # 9.5 Spine Entry Schema] [SRC: T1_CVD_Creative_Vision_Document # 6.2].
hard_line_binding — CVD §17.1 high-care (HL_0009 names Ch 42 Haiti and its source gate: Dubois, James, Desmangles, Davis) binds the whole entry: the Vodou community and its houngan and mambo are inviolate and never combat targets (HL_0003), the antagonist intrusion provides the combat layer (HL_0004), no Vodou-as-zombie-horror or temple-as-trap framing appears (HL_0005), protected ceremonial content is referenced not reproduced (HL_0007), and the reveal discipline (§17.9 / HL_0043) holds Cassius and the thesis dark [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0009] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0003].
protagonist_age 18 at start and 18 at end (internal, designer-only, never surfaced; the young-adult plateau holds — the involuntary jumps ended at Ch 38; age_stage ADULTHOOD, holding from Ch 39) [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_42].
identity_hiding_status CONCEALMENT_WITH_HOSTILE_RECOGNITION at start and end (she still conceals what she is); identity_hiding_pressure MODERATE — the FINANCIAL vessel operates through an institutional-financial proxy, not direct family presence, and treats her as an activist or a journalist to be managed, never as what she is [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0028].
vimana_precursor_seed TRUE (held from Ch 41) — the numbered six-coordinate Vimana hunt is open (Coordinate 1 read at the Drakensberg, Ch 41), but no coordinate reads here; travel is modern conveyance and controlled Vimana flight still arrives at Ch 55 [SRC: T1_World_Geography_Master # Travel Methods by Arc].
prev_chapter_link CH_41 (South Africa Modern); next_chapter_link CH_43 (the Sea Islands / Gullah — the diaspora arc continues) [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_42].
reveal_state LIFTED — the House of Velheim may be named player-facing and the modern hunt is two-directional. HELD still: the patriarch Cassius (the FINANCIAL vessel is a Sector-1 Central Banking operation — Cassius's own coordinating sector — but the proxy does not know the head; the chain up runs into the nameless Velheim ledger, Cassius surfaces at Ch 76) and the full thesis (the Ch 77 Grand Sage, §17.9 / HL_0043) [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0043] [SRC: T4_House_of_Velheim_Canonical # 9.1].
Continuity anchor (SSBL §9.3 — Ch 42 start state = Ch 41 end state)
Ch 42 opens from Ch 41's committed end state [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_41]: the protagonist a young adult (internal age plateaued at 18, age_stage Adulthood), carrying from the Africa-Modern triad the House of Velheim named and hunted two-directionally, its institutional, financial, and extractive modern forms mapped, and the six-coordinate Vimana hunt open with Coordinate 1 in hand (read off the Drakensberg wall, running toward the Ch 55 Vimana); the healer's child (CHAR_0002) traveling as the primary companion and co-witness, the evidentiary journal in the healer's child's hand (CHAR_0002) since the Azores; Ana (CHAR_0017) rejoined at Ch 41 and traveling beside her; the freed fixer Tunde, the Mbuti guide-elder Amboko, and the ≠Khomani elder Oupa Gert carried lightly as modern contacts; the familiars carried (Shell W1, the Nile Crocodile W2, the Simurgh F4, the Koi W3, Taki G4, Berkut F5, the Raven F6, the Reindeer G6, Paravani F2 ranging, the Child Familiar still lost), with the Sanur Octopus W4 gated and Kasa the green sea-turtle W5 off-page since her Atlantic range concluded at the Azores — both canonically reappearing this chapter (the Ch-42 Water-familiar beat, see Mechanical anchors); all trade home bases carried EXCEPT Trade 7 Culinary Arts, still unrooted (it roots here); the SCH_001 through SCH_008 schools carried; the Crown and Third-Eye devices bound; the Sealed Letter readable but its deepest last third still sealed toward its Ch 66 close; concealment at CONCEALMENT_WITH_HOSTILE_RECOGNITION [SRC: T3_Core_Characters # The Healer's Child] [SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0002]. What changes here is the register of the enemy: for the first time she reaches a place where the House's method is not a lab, a mine, or a filing but a two-hundred-year-old machine that ate a free people's future and called it a debt — and where the tradition she has followed across the Atlantic since the Ouidah python-temple stands at its living peak.
Body prose
Haiti is the place the whole modern arc has been pointing at without her knowing it, because Haiti is where the two halves of what she has learned meet: the tradition she followed out of the Yoruba coast, carried across the Middle Passage and still alive, and the enemy she learned to name, working here in its oldest and most complete form. She comes down into Port-au-Prince and finds a city that a great many powers have decided is a problem to be managed, and under the management she finds the thing itself — a debt.
She learns it the way the modern world is learned, in an archive. In 1825 a French fleet stood off the coast of the one country on earth that had freed itself by its own hand — the only slave revolution in history to make a nation — and presented the free people a bill: pay us for the property you took when you took yourselves, or we come back. A hundred and fifty million francs, later ninety, the price of France's lost plantations and lost slaves, billed to the slaves. Haiti paid it for a hundred and twenty-two years, through French banks and then American ones, and every franc that went out was a school not built, a road not laid, a clinic not opened. She has watched the House take with a patent and take with a supply chain and take with a filing; here she finds the purest instrument of all, a machine that took for a century by simply presenting an invoice, and she recognizes the family in it, up past the polite auditor, up into the same nameless ledger she has traced on three continents. This one is the House's financial hand, the oldest and cleanest instrument of all, and above the auditor it goes dark exactly as it has every time before.
And this time there is a hand behind the paper, felt and never seen — a deputy of the House's banking sector whose whole craft is pricing instruments like this one, who would read a freed people's hundred-and-twenty-two-year bill as a column that had to balance and feel nothing about it, because feeling is not the job. She does not appear at the plaza; she is the cold competence in the drafting, a name the auditor answers to and will not say. Their paths will cross later, and it will cost. For now she is only that: one hand doing an office's work, one endpoint of the same instrument the archive already records in full — not the nameless ledger the chain runs up into, only a deputy of it, and above her it goes dark exactly as it always has. The invoice she prices is real, and it happened, and the family's part in pricing it is the thing the chapter is quietly learning to see.
But the archive is only half of what Haiti is, and the smaller half. Because the healer's child, standing beside her in the heat, goes still the way she herself went still in Nigeria — recognition — and points, and she follows the pointing to a temple where a serpent is served, and she knows the serpent. It is Damballa Wedo, the sky-serpent, the cool white coil of the vital-force in motion, and it is the same being she first met at the Ouidah python-temple an ocean and an age ago, carried here in the memory of people who were carried here in chains and who kept it whole across all of it. This is the discovery the chapter is built on and it is hers to earn, not to be told: the thread she has followed since Flores, the vital-force under a dozen names, reaches its clearest living peak here, in a religion that a whole world has spent two centuries libeling as horror and that is, when you stand inside it and are quiet, one of the most complete cosmologies the human family has made. She does not perform any of it. She is a visitor, and the mambo who lets her in decides what she may see and what stays closed, and she keeps those lines exactly, because keeping them is the whole difference between her and every extraction she has fought.
There is a recognition at the threshold, one that comes before the serpent and makes room for it. The mambo's rite opens the way every Rada rite opens — the first salute given not to any great lwa but to the one who holds the gate between the living world and the world of the spirits, Papa Legba, old and leaning on his stick at the crossroads, who must draw the barrier back before a single other spirit can be served. She knows him. She met him first on the Yoruba coast as Eshu-Elegba, the opener-of-the-way who stands where the roads cross, and again in modern Lagos where the tradition still keeps him; here he stands as Papa Legba, the crossroads-keeper of the island's rite, the same figure carried in chains across the Middle Passage and kept whole, still the one who opens the door for everything that comes after. The people who were stolen carried their doorkeeper with them and set him first at the threshold of the new rite, so that in a land built to let them keep nothing the way could still be opened. She does not give the salute, which belongs to the community and not to her, but she feels the gate drawn back — and understands, only after, that the serpent could not have been recognized until the opener had opened the way.
And the same tradition that keeps Damballa whole also keeps the names of the things that are not lwa at all. There is the baka — the bought spirit, the thing a person contracts to do harm, held on a debt of its own and known to any houngan or mambo who can name it and send it back. There is the lougarou, who wears a neighbor's ordinary face by day and something else by night. These are the diaspora's own reckoning with malevolence, kept firmly apart from the sacred lwa, and the mambo speaks of them the way any tradition speaks of its own dangers: plainly, without drama, and always with the counter already in her hands. The protagonist listens, and files it, and does not yet know how exactly the enemy is about to hand her a use for it.
The 1791 comes to her at the sacred grove. The substrate at Bois Caïman is thick enough that the night the revolution was lit is not entirely past — the site is a seam where the two eras bleed, the ground gone rift-unstable with the weight of what happened on it; she stands at the edge of the ceremony where Boukman and the mambo Cécile Fatiman called a whole people to rise, and she stands in the present-day clearing at the same time, and the two do not cancel. She fights that night, out on the plain, beside the insurgents and against the slaver-apparatus that hunted them — a maréchaussée commandant who keeps a ledger of human beings and calls himself lightning — and the fighting is a liberation, never a war on anyone the chapter protects. And here is the use the enemy makes of the tradition's own dangers: at the grove a thing has been coiled around Damballa that is not Damballa and never could be — a baka, a bought spirit, but this one bought and bound by the House and not by any islander, held on the same forcing-mark she has read on three continents now and set to ape the sacred rhythm and feed on the ceremony's charge. The community knows it for exactly what it is the moment it appears, because their tradition has always had the word for it; the mambo names it a baka and the drums do not falter. And so she meets it the way the Sámi drum-site taught her — not with force, which would tear the true echo apart with the false, but with perception and restraint, keeping the community's lead drum true while she cuts the forcing-leash and purges the bought thing from around the sacred presence it could only ever counterfeit. Damballa is never touched. Only the stolen baka beside him is.
The reckoning, when it comes, is the machine. The debt made mechanical stands in the Port-au-Prince plaza as a materialized argument — a clock, a chain of ledgers, and the auditor's hired security guarding it — and it is a real fight, because a materialized argument in this world is a real thing to be faced, not a lecture. She beats it the only way it can be beaten: not by breaking it, which changes nothing, but by exposing it, laying the whole two-hundred-year chain out in daylight to the assembled community with the primary documents she and the healer's child have gathered as the ammunition. The drums keep time. The freed insurgents of 1791 and the living community of now stand in the same square. And when the last ledger is read aloud and the clock has nothing left to hide behind, the machine has no more power than any argument that has finally been answered — and the community is not defended in a battle so much as freed of a lie it was made to carry.
She leaves Haiti with the debt engine exposed and its record in the journal for a decision that will land later, with Trade 7 rooted in a kitchen where a squash soup that slaves were once forbidden to eat is served on the first of January to mark the day they took their freedom, and with the serpent-thread closed at last from the Yoruba coast to here. The morning she leaves, someone hands her a bowl of soup joumou, and she understands the whole chapter is in it — a people who freed themselves, were billed for it for a century, and still, every new year, eat the taste of the freedom no invoice ever took back.
Threads advancing
Mirrored to the canonical Thread grid (the per-thread rows below, keyed THREAD_NN) and the per-chapter blocks of T1_Threads_22 (canonical-22 names, verified against the grid, never inferred) [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_42].
Thread 1 Vril Parallels — CONFRONTATION: the diaspora continuity completes — the Yoruba ase of Ch 12/39, carried across the Middle Passage, surfaces here as the Vodou vital-force served in the Rada rite (the same substrate the arc has touched under a dozen names, now at its Caribbean living peak); the ase→diaspora transmission fires from Ch 39 (LINK_0004); carrier beat CH42_B04 [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 1] [SRC: T0_Cross_Cultural_Link_Graph @ LINK_0004].
Thread 2 Serpent — ESCALATION (the serpent-thread's modern-world peak): Damballa Wedo, the sky-serpent, the serpent-thread's clearest living form — a direct Yoruba-Fon Dan transmission via the Middle Passage, the continuous line from the Ch 12 Ouidah python-temple through Ch 39 to here, Ayida Wedo the rainbow-serpent consort beside him; the discovery-beat closure of the arc's longest serpent corridor; carrier beat CH42_B04 [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 2] [SRC: T0_Thread_Grid @ THREAD_02].
Thread 3 Antagonist Family — ESCALATION (reveal LIFTED): the FINANCIAL modern form — the 122-year French indemnity (1825-1947) as sovereign-debt-as-extraction, the arc's most completely documented colonial-debt case, mapped to the House of Velheim's Sector-1 Central Banking; the recurring debt-and-leverage champion the LEDGER-HAND SEEDS here as the felt-not-fought name behind the Debt Engine (§11.5 antisemitism guardrail load-bearing — the indemnity is documented history, the vessel-reading the game's L3 claim, never conflated; her open engagement is the Ch 62 debt-siege); and the family's fielding of the substrate takes its most culturally-precise form yet — a family-bought BAKA (the tradition's OWN name for a contracted malevolent spirit, deployed UNATTRIBUTED, unmistakably NOT a lwa) coiled around Damballa; the family named player-facing but the chain up dark into the nameless ledger (Cassius held for Ch 76); carrier beat CH42_B09 [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 3] [SRC: BOSS_PERSONAS # THE LEDGER-HAND] [SRC: T4_House_of_Velheim_Canonical # 9.1].
Thread 4 Flood Memory — ANCHOR: the New-World flood-tradition register opening (Ch 42-50) — the Caribbean and New-World flood-memory carried forward from the Old-World flood-memories of the ancient arc, the Middle-Passage crossing itself a drowning the diaspora remembers; chapter-ambient (no single carrier beat — the register opens across the range) [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 4] [SRC: T0_Thread_Grid @ THREAD_04].
Thread 6 Dying-Rising — CONFRONTATION (the Revolution as dying-rising): the Haitian Revolution itself as the dying-rising pattern — a people who had everything taken and rebuilt from nothing to make the first Black republic — anchored in Toussaint Louverture (1743-1803), imprisoned and dead at Fort de Joux yet with a continuing inspirational presence that outlived the man, rendered not as myth but as documented history (per James, Bell), the crowd's resolve at the plaza carrying his memory; carrier beat CH42_B06 [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 6] [SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0118].
Thread 10 Mother Goddess — ANCHOR: Erzulie Freda (Ezili) of the Rada nation and the mambo Cécile Fatiman presiding at Bois Caïman — the feminine-divine and the historical priestess dual-anchor of the revolution's sacred ground; carrier beat CH42_B07 [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 10] [SRC: T0_Thread_Grid @ THREAD_10].
Thread 16 Dream Traditions and Astral — ANCHOR: the Vodou living religious practice as the Dream/Astral thread's canonical anchor — the spirit-communication and trance-register of the Rada rite, witnessed not performed (§17.1), and the Bois Caïman 1791 time-fluctuation the substrate expression; carrier beat CH42_B03 [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 16] [SRC: T0_Thread_Grid @ THREAD_16].
Thread 21 Music — ANCHOR: the Rada drum tradition at full development (the manman, seconde, and bula ceremonial ensemble, per Wilcken) — the Ch 12 rada-drum setup paying off, referenced as form and witnessed, never reproduced; the drums the true-from-false discriminator of the four-step protocol; carrier beat CH42_B07 [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 21] [SRC: T0_Thread_Grid @ THREAD_21].
Thread-join note: the seven event-backed threads carry named beats (T01/T02→CH42_B04, T03→CH42_B09, T06→CH42_B06, T10/T21→CH42_B07, T16→CH42_B03); Thread 4 Flood Memory advances at chapter-ambient level only (the New-World flood register opens across Ch 42-50, the Middle-Passage-as-drowning), with no single carrier beat — deliberate, verified against the chapter's own Thread_Grid row.
Civilizational marks (the builders-of-knowledge layer, §9.5 mandatory)
Each mark clears a group-A significance lens and anchors to the RCM verified-canon paragraph or a named primary source; Ch 42 is authored around the Haitian people's achievements — the only successful slave revolution in history, the sovereign state it built, its architecture, its cosmology, and its foodway — credited firmly to the people who made them [SRC: SIGNIFICANCE_LENSES].
The Haitian Revolution and the sovereign state — the documented 1791-1804 revolution, the only slave-led revolution in human history to produce a sovereign nation; Toussaint Louverture's 1801 constitution and Dessalines's 1804 Declaration of Independence, credited to the enslaved who freed themselves (Dubois, James, Geggus) — a first-rank political-and-military achievement, surfaced precisely against the two-century libel that reduced Haiti to disaster (the very silencing Trouillot's Silencing the Past names and anatomizes) [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 42] [SRC: SIGNIFICANCE_LENSES].
The Citadelle Laferrière — the mountain fortress raised by Henri Christophe (1805-1820, UNESCO 1982), one of the largest fortresses in the Americas, built by a free people to guarantee they were never re-enslaved — an engineering and defensive achievement of a newly-sovereign nation, credited to its builders [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 42] [SRC: SIGNIFICANCE_LENSES].
Haitian Vodou as a complete cosmology — the Rada-nation lwa and the syncretic religious system documented as the community understands it (Desmangles, Métraux, Brown, and the Haitian insider-voice Saint-Lot), a coherent and sophisticated body of belief and practice with its own theology, iconography (veve), and music (the manman/seconde/bula drum system, Wilcken), credited to its practitioners and surfaced to correct the zombie-horror trope, never dramatize it [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 42] [SRC: SIGNIFICANCE_LENSES].
The Kreyòl foodway (Trade 7) — the documented Haitian Creole culinary tradition (griot, diri ak djon-djon, pikliz, and the soup joumou independence-day tradition), a West-African / French / Taíno syncretic achievement (Sokolov, Mintz) in which the formerly-forbidden squash soup became a sovereign people's annual memory of freedom [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 42] [SRC: SIGNIFICANCE_LENSES].
The diaspora transmission (knowledge-transmission edge) — Damballa Wedo carried from the Yoruba-Fon Dan tradition across the Middle Passage and kept whole, a Class-2 knowledge-transmission continuity (never a hyperdiffusion claim), the enslaved who preserved it credited as the transmitters (LINK_0004, CIVMARK:CH_42); and, carried on the same passage, Papa Legba the opener-of-the-way carried from the Yoruba-Fon Eshu-Elegba tradition and kept whole — a second Class-2 knowledge-transmission continuity of the crossroads-keeper, the diaspora doorkeeper set first at the threshold of the new rite, the enslaved likewise credited as the transmitters (the DP-3 crossroads-opener edge, to be rowed at scatter as the sibling of LINK_0004) [SRC: T0_Cross_Cultural_Link_Graph @ LINK_0004] [SRC: T0_Cross_Cultural_Link_Graph @ LINK_0162] [SRC: CROSS_CULTURAL_WEAVE] [POPULATE→T0_Cross_Cultural_Link_Graph].
Component-11 status — none at Ch 42: Haiti is a living-tradition, revolutionary-history, and institutional node, not a megalith or archaeoastronomy site of the CVD's Component-11 catalog [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 42] [SRC: SIGNIFICANCE_LENSES].
Everything-woven (the twelve facets, each a real presence, none name-checked)
Ch 42 is authored as the Atlantic diaspora peak and the Americas modern-arc opening — the ancient Ch 12 Yoruba node and the modern Ch 39 node behind it (the same serpent-thread), the Ch 43 Gullah/Sea-Islands node ahead (the diaspora arc continues — the Dahomey-Haiti-American-South transmission chain LINK_0018 the load-bearing forward edge, the Ti Malice trickster sub-chain LINK_0073 beside it), the Ch 48 public-release deliberation the journal feeds, and the Ch 76 Unity chain the whole structure runs toward (LINK_0145) — Haiti rendered as a hub in the Atlantic world's real web (France, the Paris banks, the United States, the wider Caribbean), controlled for relevance at the significance-lens pass [SRC: CROSS_CULTURAL_WEAVE].
Combat routes through the oppressor apparatus only (the 1791 French colonial slaver-hunting apparatus, the present-day Velheim financial-intrusion enforcers, the family's bought baka coiled around the sacred presence at the rift-unstable Bois Caïman seam, and permitted interior fauna) — the Vodou community, its houngan and mambo, and its practitioners are inviolate and never a target; the community fights BESIDE the player (naming the baka and holding the true drum), never against; every fought thing is oppressor-apparatus, intrusion-enforcer, or forced construct.
Exploration crosses the four canonical zones in traveled order — Port-au-Prince's financial-and-urban lowland, the Bois Caïman sacred grove (the 1791 core), the Cap-Haïtien coast, and the Citadelle Laferrière on its mountain.
Discovery is recognizing Damballa Wedo as the same serpent-thread being from the Ch 12 Ouidah python-temple — the arc's longest corridor closed, earned by the player who witnessed the origin.
Puzzles are the indemnity-archive reconstruction (the 150M→90M paper-trail through the Banque Nationale d'Haiti and Crédit Industriel), where the primary-source corpus becomes the literal ammunition of the boss (the L2-becomes-Preparation-axis pattern).
Mystery is the Bois Caïman 1791 time-fluctuation — how she stands at both the ceremony's edge and the present-day clearing; witness-depth only, never performance — and who bought and bound the baka coiled at the seam (an unattributed forced asset, the House's hand in it clear but the forging hand unrecognized until Ch 63), and who the felt name behind the auditor is (the Ledger-Hand, met later).
Lore is the documented Revolution (Dubois, James, Geggus), the Toussaint/Dessalines/Christophe record, the Vodou cosmology as the community understands it (Desmangles, Métraux, Brown), and the indemnity's paper-trail (Hudson, Phillips, the NYT 2022 series).
Trades hold their home bases and schools; Trade 7 Culinary Arts roots its single home base here (the soup joumou tradition both a mastery-gate and a narrative device — nourishment-consciousness).
Gathering is the culinary and healer's-garden gathering (djon-djon mushrooms, Scotch-bonnet for pikliz, and the fèy medicinal-leaf tradition tied to the mambo's leaf-healing), and the recovered indemnity documents.
Side quests run the secret-society (the House of Velheim's FINANCIAL modern form, now named), the mystery-detective (the debt-archive reconstruction feeding the Ch 48 public-release deliberation), the sorcery-and-lore (the Rada-lwa cosmology, witnessed), the anomalous-phenomena (the Bois Caïman time-fluctuation), and the culinary-mastery (Trade 7) lines (block 11).
Engineering is the Citadelle Laferrière read as a system — a free people's fortress, traversed and comprehended, never besieged.
Folklore is the Rada-nation lwa as living cosmology (Damballa Wedo, Ayida Wedo, Erzulie Freda, and Papa Legba the opener-of-the-way — recognized here as the same crossroads-opener met on the Yoruba coast as Eshu-Elegba at Ch 12 and again in modern Lagos at Ch 39, the diaspora doorkeeper carried across the Middle Passage and saluted first to open the rite, a felt-recognition callback that deepens the diaspora thread and never gates it) and the veve as a living sacred sign-system, referenced never reproduced; and, held FIRMLY apart from the sacred lwa, the diaspora's own reckoning with malevolence — the baka (the bought/contracted evil spirit a houngan or mambo names and sends back) and the lougarou (the night-shapeshifter) — engaged on the community's own terms, the community's expertise the counter, the family's bought baka clearly a stolen version of a thing the tradition already knows how to name and defeat.
Superstition is disarmed, not indulged — the game surfaces Davis's academic ethnobotanical record (the peer-reviewed Passage of Darkness, not the popular horror route) to show the tradition as the community understands it, correcting the zombie-horror outsider trope rather than dramatizing it.
Key sites and spatial layout
Story-load-bearing sites, each having cleared a significance lens and the §4 relevance filter; geography anchors to the World Geography Master, never the RCM [SRC: T1_World_Geography_Master # Ch 42] [SRC: SIGNIFICANCE_LENSES].
Typed v3.1 site rows (§3b) — beats reference these by site_id; the environmental detail rides each row as env texture.
env: the dense present-day Caribbean city and the disaster-capitalism overlay; the Paris-and-American-banking indemnity archive as documentary geography (Banque Nationale d'Haiti, Crédit Industriel et Commercial), the community's protected edge (the intrusion-enforcers the only combat there — never practitioners), the plaza where the Debt Engine materializes, and the community kitchen where Trade 7 roots; hosts CH42_B01/CH42_B02/CH42_B09/CH42_B10/CH42_B11/CH42_B12/CH42_B13; L1/L2.
env: a Rada ounfò in Port-au-Prince where the serpent is served, the mambo's gate-kept witness-space; the opening salute to Papa Legba the crossroads-keeper and the Damballa Thread-2 recognition; a protected living sacred space (referenced not reproduced, witness-not-performing, HL_0007); hosts CH42_B03/CH42_B04/CH42_B05; L2/L3.
env: the sacred grove near Morne-Rouge on the northern plain, the 1791 time-fluctuation core (a rift-unstable seam where the ceremony-night and the present bleed) and the anchor-vril ceremony charge (VS_CH42_001); the family's bought baka purged from around Damballa by the four-step protocol while the community keeps its lead drum true — nothing sacred reproduced, Damballa never touched; hosts CH42_B07; L2/L3.
env: the northern Caribbean coast and the revolutionary-era northern plain (the 1791 strand's staging), where the liberation fight beside the risen insurgents breaks the maréchaussée slaver-apparatus; permitted marine fauna on the coast (the invasive lionfish CR_0124); hosts CH42_B06; L1/L2.
env: the Citadelle Laferrière and Sans-Souci on the mountainous interior (UNESCO 1982), one of the largest fortresses in the Americas, raised by Henri Christophe as a free people's guarantee — traversed and comprehended, never besieged; the chapter's agility course (vista-and-climactic-geometry, a Puzzle variant threading the archive) and permitted interior fauna (Ruling 5); hosts CH42_B08; L2.
Inter-chapter travel — arrival into Haiti (the Americas modern-arc opening, the Atlantic diaspora peak); departure toward the Sea Islands / Gullah (Ch 43, the diaspora arc continues via the Dahomey→Haiti→American-South transmission chain, LINK_0018); travel modern conveyance, the six-coordinate Vimana hunt open (Coordinate 1 in hand) but Vimana flight still at Ch 55 [SRC: T1_World_Geography_Master # Travel Methods by Arc].
Boss structure (§9 thin join index — phases are beats; the narrative lives in the beat graph)
The chapter runs a 1791 strand and a present-day strand that converge; three sub-bosses seed across the Revolution's oppressor-apparatus (Thread 3 historical), the serpent/witness environmental protocol (Thread 2), and the present-day financial proxy (Thread 3 modern), culminating in the main boss — the Debt Engine, a materialized-institutional-argument boss (the Ch 69 lineage, a real playable fight) defeated by EXPOSURE not force, the Vodou community protected throughout (CVD §17.1) [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0078].

Key ally NPCs
The mambo (a Vodou priestess, the cultural anchor and gate-keeper of witness-depth) — warm, exacting, unhurried; she decides what the visitor may see and what stays protected, and she is inviolate, never a combatant, never a target (per §17.1's inviolate-practitioner line, HL_0003); she is also the one who NAMES the family-bought baka the moment it appears and holds the counter (the community's own tradition has always had the word and the way to send such a thing back — her expertise is what keeps the lead drum true while the protagonist purges the stolen thing beside it); depicted per Brown's Mama Lola ethnographic depth; Mambo Zetwal-Klere (an author-created Kreyòl name, "bright star," screened clear of any real mambo — never Cécile Fatiman, a real historical figure honored separately; RR-52 Layer-3 finalized, and RR-52 adversarial re-screen = RATIFY_WITH_NOTE — the Mambo-plus-nom-vaillant ritual-name form is authentic and attested, and "zetwal" is also the everyday Kreyòl word for star, so the name reads as a poetic nom vaillant; the caution: "zetwal" is ALSO a Vodou soul-component ("star of destiny"), so the name is never treated flippantly in prose and a fully sacred-term-free alternative [Klere-Limyè, "bright light"] stands available if preferred) [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 42] [SRC: NAMING_METHOD].
The griot-cook (the Trade 7 Culinary teacher) — a griot-storyteller-and-cook who runs the community kitchen and teaches the soup joumou independence tradition as both recipe and history; an honored ally, gently ribbed (a good man who burns the story and the pork alike); Tonton Griyo (an author-created affectionate Kreyòl nickname — "Uncle Griot", the griot/griyo homophone carrying both the storyteller and the fried-pork dish; the prior "-Fè" suffix DROPPED at the RR-52 re-screen to clear a faint resonance with the iron-lwa Ogou Feray; RR-52 Layer-3 finalized) [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 42] [SRC: NAMING_METHOD].
The healer's child (CHAR_0002) — the primary companion and co-witness, who keeps the evidentiary journal (the FINANCIAL-documentation entry that feeds the Ch 48 public-release deliberation) and whose recognition of the serpent opens the discovery-beat; inviolate, never a target [SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0002].
Ana (CHAR_0017) — the Manggarai Caci fighter rejoined at Ch 41, traveling beside her as the party's melee blade through the 1791 liberation strand; an honored companion, never a target [SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0017].
Real historical figures — honored, never invented-over: Toussaint Louverture (CHAR_0118, the Thread-6 dying-rising anchor and continuing inspirational presence), Boukman Dutty and the mambo Cécile Fatiman (the Bois Caïman presiding figures), Dessalines and Christophe — surfaced as documented history with dignity, never villainized and never fictionalized into a persona [SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0118].
No community NPCs at risk — the Vodou community, its houngan and mambo, and its practitioners are protected and combat-against-no-one; the Haitian people are honored, shown with agency (a people who freed themselves), never reduced to disaster (CVD §17.1) [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 42].

Protected-chapter combat framing (ruling 5)
Ch 42 is a high-care hard-line node: the Vodou community, its houngan and mambo, and its practitioners are inviolate and NEVER combat targets (HL_0003, the inviolate-practitioner line); the antagonist intrusion provides the combat layer (HL_0004). Not one playable fight targets a practitioner. Every fight defends and frees the Vodou community from its oppressors: (1) the 1791 French colonial slaver-apparatus (S1 Foudre-Sèche — venture out, protect, free the coffle); (2) the family-bought baka coiled around the sacred presence at the rift-unstable Bois Caïman seam via the canonical four-step environmental protocol (S2, a bought spirit forced by the House — not a person, not a lwa, never Damballa — nothing sacred reproduced, only witnessed); (3) the present-day Velheim financial proxy (S3 Crédit-Sûr) and the intrusion-enforcer waves; (4) the materialized Debt Engine (exposed, not force-destroyed). Permitted fauna combat (per Ruling 5) is available on the Cap-Haïtien coast (the invasive lionfish) and in the mountainous-interior traversal; the community fights BESIDE the player, never against [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0003] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0004]. The Bois Caïman four-step protocol (S2) acts on the intruding family-bought baka ONLY — never on or through the ceremony: the community performs the rite and keeps its lead drum true (the mambo naming the baka and holding the counter) while the protagonist cuts the forcing-leash and purges the bought thing coiled around the sacred presence beside them, never touching the rite itself (the ceremony proper stays pure-witness). And in the 1791 liberation strand the real historical figures — Boukman, Cécile Fatiman, Dessalines — are kept in the audit-only/documented register (Boukman and Cécile Fatiman witnessed at the ceremony's edge calling the people to rise, their documented acts honored, never puppeted into playable action); the COMPOSITE risen enslaved insurgents are the decisive agents of their own revolution, and the protagonist and Ana strictly ASSIST and fight beside those composite insurgents, never framed as the liberator (a people who freed themselves). Vodou is a living religion continuously practiced since its 18th-century syncretic formation, never a zombie-horror trope (HL_0005); veve and ceremonial content are referenced, not reproduced (HL_0007) [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0005].
Anti-fringe / Frame-A flags
Vodou as zombie-horror — at-risk claim: Haitian Vodou as the Hollywood zombie-horror trope, or temple-as-trap. Canonical framing: Vodou is surfaced as a complete living cosmology as the community understands it (Desmangles, Métraux, Brown), and the zombie superstition is DISARMED by surfacing Davis's academic ethnobotanical record (the peer-reviewed Passage of Darkness, engaged with the CVD §17.1 peer-review-context discipline — the academic route, never the popular horror route), correcting the outsider trope rather than dramatizing it [SRC: ESOTERIC_GROUNDING] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0005].
The Bois Caïman time-fluctuation — at-risk claim: the ceremony rendered as spectacle, or the protagonist made a performer of a protected rite. Canonical framing: the 1791 fluctuation is witness-depth only — the protagonist is a visitor who witnesses and never performs; the ceremony is referenced per the documented record (Dubois, James), Boukman and Cécile Fatiman are real presiding figures honored, and no original ceremony content is invented (CVD §17.1 witness-not-performing) [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 42] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0007].
The Damballa transmission — at-risk claim: the serpent-thread continuity read as a hyperdiffusion / one-source claim. Canonical framing: Damballa Wedo is a documented Yoruba-Fon Dan tradition carried across the Middle Passage and kept by the enslaved who preserved it — a Class-2 knowledge-transmission continuity (real population-and-memory transmission), never a hyperdiffusion claim [SRC: CROSS_CULTURAL_WEAVE] [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 42].
The indemnity and disaster capitalism — at-risk claim: the debt story sensationalized, or Haiti reduced to victimhood. Canonical framing: the 122-year indemnity is documented primary record (Hudson, Phillips, the NYT 2022 series) and the post-2010 disaster-capitalism overlay is documented (Klein), indicted through the record; and the Haitian people are shown throughout as agents — a people who freed themselves and were billed for it, never only as victims [SRC: SCIENCE_GROUNDING] [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 42].
The baka and lougarou (the diaspora's own malevolent-force framing) — at-risk claim: blurring the baka/lougarou with the honored Rada lwa, exoticizing them as "voodoo evil", or the game appropriating the tradition by wielding a baka. Canonical framing: the baka (the bought/contracted evil spirit) and the lougarou (the night-shapeshifter) are the community's OWN documented category for malevolence, held FIRMLY apart from the sacred lwa and engaged on the community's terms, with the houngan/mambo's naming-and-countering their documented expertise; the family-bought baka is explicitly a STOLEN version of a thing the tradition already knows how to name and send back (the community is the counter), never a lwa and never Damballa, who is never touched — so the game uses the tradition's own framework respectfully rather than inventing or appropriating (§17.1 sacred-never-corrupted) [SRC: ESOTERIC_GROUNDING] [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 42].
The Ledger-Hand and the §11.5 antisemitism guardrail (LOAD-BEARING, sharpest on this thread) — at-risk claim: a debt-and-finance villain tipping into the antisemitic "hidden hand of world finance" / puppet-master canard. Canonical framing (HL_0109 / §11.5): the Ledger-Hand is a composite lawful OFFICE (a role held by a body, never ethnic/bloodline-coded — evil is a chosen soul-direction), her instruments the ordinary documented levers of finance; the 122-year indemnity is real HISTORY presented as history (L2), and the game's claim that the pattern serves a Velheim vessel-function is the L3 ARTISTIC interpretation — the two are NEVER conflated in one player-facing line; the ribbing stays scoped to concrete instruments and the specific harmed community (Haiti), NEVER "prices nations" / hidden-hand / world-controlling imagery; she is ONE endpoint of a pattern (a person doing an office's work), countered on-screen by the surviving record, never history's omnipotent author [SRC: T1_CVD_Creative_Vision_Document # 17.1] [SRC: BOSS_PERSONAS # THE LEDGER-HAND].
Three-layer surfacing
L1 self-contained: a playable liberation story — fight the slaver apparatus at 1791, protect the sacred ceremony from the false-serpent parasite, defend the modern community from the financial-intrusion enforcers, and switch off the Debt Engine by exposing it; a complete action-adventure needing no metaphysics [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0047].
L2 investigatable: the substrate — the indemnity archive (Hudson, Phillips, the NYT 2022 series), the Revolution record (Dubois, James, Geggus), the Vodou tradition as the community understands it (Desmangles, Métraux, Brown, Davis's academic route), the Rada drum musicology (Wilcken), and the Trade-7 foodway (Sokolov, Mintz) — all referenced, never reproduced; veve and ceremony protected [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 42].
L3 metaphysical-as-real, never declared: Damballa Wedo as the serpent-thread's modern peak is REAL in the game world — the vril-perception and environmental-protocol mechanics operate the sacred vital-force as literally present at the Bois Caïman anchor site, and the 1791 time-fluctuation is a real substrate event (a rift-unstable seam), not a vision; the family FIELDS the substrate here in its most culturally-precise form (a family-bought baka — the tradition's own name for a contracted evil spirit, held on a readable forcing-mark, the fourth entry in the modern arc's unattributed forced-asset chain, its forger unrecognized until Ch 63), coiled around Damballa but never Damballa; the Pattern demonstrated by the same vital-force carried whole across the Middle Passage, yet nothing of the thesis spoken, no Grand-Sage hint, and no name given to the forging hand (HL_0043) [SRC: ESOTERIC_GROUNDING] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0043].

Decisions surfaced
Ch 42 surfaced these decisions; the grounded and creative-within-vision ones are resolved inline with reasoning shown (Josh-override-able at RR-52 and at the hard-line Stage-2 sign-off), and no cardinal un-decidable is left open. This is a hard-line high-care node — the Stage-2 canonical-question set (docs/spine/stage2/CH_42_STAGE2.md) pre-drafts Josh's decision batch.
The high-care Vodou depiction — RESOLVED (CVD §17.1 / HL_0009): Haitian Vodou is rendered as the community understands it (Rada-nation lwa, the Desmangles/Métraux/Brown ethnographic depth), never as zombie-horror (HL_0005); the protagonist WITNESSES and never performs; veve and ceremonial content are referenced, not reproduced (HL_0007); the four §17.1 source-gate authors (Dubois, James, Desmangles, Davis) bind; the zombie superstition is disarmed via Davis's academic route, never dramatized. The bòkò serving/harming duality is handled as the tradition's own internal (emic) category (the baka/lougarou lore at CH42_B05), never the chapter's boss and never horror-tropified [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0009].
The real-historical-figure handling — RESOLVED (the deities-real / real-persons-honored discipline): Toussaint Louverture (CHAR_0118), Boukman Dutty, the mambo Cécile Fatiman, Dessalines, and Christophe are real figures surfaced with dignity as documented history — never villainized, never fictionalized into an invented persona; the invented ally personas (the mambo Mambo Zetwal-Klere, the griot-cook Tonton Griyo) are original Kreyòl names screened clear of any real figure, and the invented oppressor personas (Foudre-Sèche, Crédit-Sûr, Maître Ronge-Siècle) are constructed and screened [SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0118] [SRC: NAMING_METHOD].
The reveal handling (Cassius's own sector) — RESOLVED-WITHIN-VISION (the D-16 / §17.9 discipline): the FINANCIAL vessel operates in Sector-1 Central Banking — Cassius's own coordinating sector — and the House of Velheim is named player-facing (reveal lifted), but the proxy does not know the head and the chain up runs into the nameless Velheim ledger, so Cassius stays dark to Ch 76 and the thesis to Ch 77; naming the family without naming the patriarch or his sector-headship holds the ceiling [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0043].
The Debt Engine as a materialized-argument boss (BOSS_PERSONAS present) — RESOLVED (authored per the BOSS_PERSONAS methodology + the Ch 69 materialized-argument lineage): the Debt Engine / L'Engrenage / Maître Ronge-Siècle (win=pacify-by-exposure) is grounded on the RCM's FINANCIAL-sector indemnity case and the CH42 exemplar, and the BE_0042 persona resolves in BOSS_PERSONAS and the T0_Boss_Encounter registry; a materialized argument is a real playable fight, never a cutscene [SRC: BOSS_PERSONAS # BE_0042] [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 42].
Trade 7 Culinary single-home — RESOLVED (grounded, per the Trades master + memory canon): Trade 7 Culinary Arts roots its one home base at Ch 42 (the ancient-and-modern-in-one-chapter home), the soup joumou independence tradition the anchor; Ch 43 Gullah carries no Trade-7 home (the NOLA-Haiti continuity is a cultural pathway, not a shared home) [SRC: T1_Trades_Master # 3.7].
The mode/intensity topography — RESOLVED-WITHIN-VISION (grounded, confirmed at the topography gate at scatter): Ch 41 is puzzle_routed, so Ch 42's dominant mode is set to environmental (the four-step Bois-Caïman sacred-site protocol + the 1791 liberation the moment-to-moment layer, the Ch 29 environmental-dominant precedent) to clear HL_0049; intensity is standard (aligned to the Chapter_Index pre-seed) — the reckoning's weight rides the hard-line content and the exposure climax, giving a clean Ch 40 standard / Ch 41 peak / Ch 42 standard peak-then-relief curve; the topography gate is the machine confirmation at scatter [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_42] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0049].
The modern-arc re-flesh (Task #48, the four AAA moves — a MEDIUM/additive node on a HARD-LINE MAX-CARE chapter) — APPLIED (grounded / creative-within-vision, per docs/proposals/modern_arc_staging/modern_scope_39_45.md): (1) LIVING-SUPERNATURAL — the diaspora's OWN malevolent-force framing added (the baka, the bought/contracted evil spirit, and the lougarou night-shapeshifter), engaged on the community's terms and held FIRMLY apart from the honored Rada lwa (Vodou/Damballa stays protected/witness-only, NEVER corruptible — the Haiti-MAX hard line, HL_0009); (2) VELHEIM ASSET — the LEDGER-HAND (the Sector-1 Central Banking deputy) SEEDS as the felt-not-fought recurring debt-face behind the Debt Engine (§11.5 antisemitism guardrail LOAD-BEARING — the indemnity is documented history / L2, the vessel-reading the game's L3 claim, NEVER conflated; scoped to concrete instruments + Haiti, never "prices nations"/hidden-hand; one endpoint of a pattern, never bloodline-coded), and the existing S2 false-serpent is RE-FRAMED as a family-bought BAKA (Construct-Kit Class 1, deployed UNATTRIBUTED — the tradition's own category for a contracted evil spirit, but bought/bound by the HOUSE, coiled around Damballa but never a lwa, the community NAMING it and holding the counter, Damballa never touched); (3) MAGIC-IS-THE-HOW — vril-forensics on the indemnity archive (canon) + the risen 1791 Bois Caïman insurgents as co-witnesses (canon), the forcing-mark read on the baka; (4) COMBAT-NEVER-STOPS — Bois Caïman rendered a Rift-unstable seam (the 1791 time-fluctuation IS the rift) + the intrusion-enforcers (canon) + the baka. MATERIALIZED-ARGUMENT KEPT — the Debt Engine IS the range's ONE flagship materialized-argument (net-reduce achieved by demoting Ch 39/41, never this). Dominant mode KEPT environmental/STANDARD. Care: Haiti-MAX (HL_0009) held — the lwa never corrupted, the baka clearly-not-a-lwa (the community's own category), veve/ceremony referenced-not-reproduced, HL_0110 no voice-clone, the wronged-dead cap held (the 1791 insurgents heroic-dead co-witnesses composite; Toussaint/Boukman/Cécile Fatiman audit-only). Reveal discipline: the House + the Ledger-Hand nameable/felt post-38, the FORGING hand unnamed (unattributed → Ch 63), no Cassius (Ch 76), no thesis (Ch 77); reveal + care + §11.5 re-verified after the prose rewrite. Flagged to the Ch 42 Stage-2 set for Josh's hard-line sign-off: the Ledger-Hand §11.5 handling and the family-bought-baka framing on this MAX-care node [SRC: T4_House_of_Velheim_Canonical # 9.1] [SRC: BOSS_PERSONAS # THE LEDGER-HAND] [SRC: T1_CVD_Creative_Vision_Document # 17.1].
The DP-3 / TL-20 / L3-04 crossroads-opener recognition (a connective-web felt-recognition add) — APPLIED (grounded / creative-within-vision, per docs/proposals/WHOLE_ARC_CONNECTIVE_WEB.md DP-3): the existing bare "Legba who opens the way" list-item is PROMOTED into a played/felt recognition at CH42_B03 — the Rada rite's opening salute to Papa Legba the gate-keeper recognized as the same Yoruba opener-of-the-way (Eshu-Elegba, Ch 12 / Ch 39 Lagos) carried across the Middle Passage and kept whole, a Class-2 knowledge-transmission diaspora continuity sibling to the Damballa / LINK_0004 edge (the DP-3 crossroads-opener edge to be rowed at scatter). Care: living Vodou honored with weight (Papa Legba saluted first, the diaspora doorkeeper the stolen people carried with them and set at the threshold of the new rite), witness-not-performed (the salute is the community's, never the protagonist's), the sacred lwa never touched. Non-gating: the recognition opens and deepens the diaspora recognition-thread (and frames the Damballa discovery), never a progression gate. Reveal-clean: no family / House of Velheim / Cassius / forger anywhere in the beat — a pure tradition-continuity callback. Wires TL-20 (one of the five felt-recognition PARTIALS) toward paid, and the beat reads the Ch-12 Dahomey/Ouidah culture-mark as the deepening-welcome influence (FR-05, EXISTS_UNPAID — carried on the relationship/opportunity layer, not a gate) [SRC: T0_Cross_Cultural_Link_Graph @ LINK_0162] [POPULATE→T0_Cross_Cultural_Link_Graph].
The v3 conversion (2026-07-15; Josh-override-able at any RR) — RESOLVED-APPLIED (join-and-type, no new canon): (a) the v2.5 twenty-block form is re-shaped into the v3.1 beat→fork→state graph (13 beats, one fork), the site/boss/beat/side-quest/scene/state blocks typed to the machine layer, the KEEP-verbatim blocks (prose, threads, civ-marks, everything-woven, anti-fringe, three-layer, asset anchors) preserved. (b) The serpent-temple (the Rada ounfò named in the body prose) is split from the urban port_au_prince site into its own protected sacred_site (protected true) so the rite-witness beats CH42_B03/CH42_B04/CH42_B05 keep protected=true — a care-preserving placement, not new canon. (c) The v2.5 "SQ_Culinary" is re-typed as a Trade-7 home-root trade event at CH42_B13 (Trade 7 is not a canonical SQ1-12 line), not an SQ row. (d) The Trade-7/serpent-thread-closure/debt-engine-exposure closure is typed as the transformation-mode exit beat (CH42_B13) to earn the mode_variety transformation=Y.
The Ledger-Hand registry-id correction (grounded error-correction at the v3 FK join) — RESOLVED-APPLIED (spine-citation fix; the registry is correct, so NO registry-cell edit): the v2.5 entry cited the Ledger-Hand (Marguerite Vellmark-Haab) as NW_0052, but the T0_Antagonist_Network registry rows show NW_0052 = the Ch-56 Surveillance-Military operative Torvald "Frostvakt" Vellmark-Sten, while the Ledger-Hand is rowed in NW_0051 (the Ch-55 Empty-Chair Inner-Council row that names her). This is the RR-62-flagged BOSS_PERSONAS +1 mislabel that the v2.5 spine inherited; the spine citation is corrected to NW_0051 in the §9 thin index and this block. Because the Ledger-Hand only SEEDS here (felt, never fought, no boss row), no antagonist:NW FK id is placed in a beat systems slot for her; the FINANCIAL vessel's operative id NW_0039 (correct, CH_42) is used at the Debt-Engine beats. No registry_correction is queued — the registry is already right [SRC: T0_Antagonist_Network_Registry @ NW_0051] [SRC: T0_Antagonist_Network_Registry @ NW_0052].
The reveal-discipline correction (the forger name, pre-Ch-63) — RESOLVED-APPLIED (reveal ladder, HL_0043): the v2.5 blocks named the baka's forging hand in the design layer (the forger's proper name paired with the -bought / -forged suffix), but the forger stays UNATTRIBUTED until Ch 63; every such reference is re-typed to the unattributed form (the family-bought / House-bought baka, the forging hand unrecognized until Ch 63), so the whole entry holds the pre-63 reveal ceiling with the forger unnamed while the House stays nameable (reveal lifted). No canon removed — only a premature attribution withheld to its canonical reveal window [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0043].
The BE_0042_S2 de-attribution (design-layer only — this audit note names the scrubbed token nowhere player-facing) — RESOLVED-APPLIED (batch-5 verify landing): the row's boss_name/win_reward/sources cells were re-framed family-bought/unattributed per the uniform pre-Ch-55 registry policy (Astrid Vellmark-Corr is canonically introduced at Ch 55; the construct-chain attribution resolves at Ch 63), baseline-declared in the landing commit [SRC: T0_Boss_Encounter_Registry @ BE_0042_S2].
