Chapter 32 — North Africa (Amazigh): The Last Overland Route and the Trader Whose Terms Are the Desert
Story Spine entry, v3.1 beat→fork→state event graph (docs/SPINE_SCHEMA_v3.md), restructured in place from the v2.5 cascade build (authored fresh to docs/proposals/CHAPTER_BUILD_TARGET.md and the v2.5 twenty-block anchor-hub schema), spine_status drafted. The v2.5 anchors, prose, source-anchor provenance, and reveal discipline are preserved; v3 re-shapes the site/boss/beat/side-quest/scene/state blocks into the typed machine layer (join-and-type — no new canon authored). Grounded on the enrich.py pack. Standard-care chapter (CVD §6.2); the §17.1 universal cultural hard lines bind, and the tradition depicted — the Amazigh (Imazighen) of the Maghreb and the Sahara, the caravan peoples of the last great overland route, the painters of Tassili n'Ajjer and the keepers of Tifinagh — is represented with weight and as they name themselves, never as tribal, primitive, or exotic (HL_0006). One element carries elevated care in practice: the Trans-Saharan caravan economy included the documented gold-salt-and-slave trade, and that history is neither lightened nor pinned on the Amazigh as a people (the Ch 12 Dahomey precedent) — combat routes through the slaver-raider, and the caravaneer's complicity is authored as a moral test, never as an indictment of a culture. Reveal-timing note: this is the arc's first economic-complicity-without-ideological-capture node, and it is naturally reveal-safe — the trader is UNAWARE that his rational self-interest serves any distant interest (NW_0030, UNAWARE), the family configures the upstream terms and never appears, and the player perceives only harsh terms and, above them, an interest no one at the crossing can name (the licensed Ch 28 edge, held). No House-of-Velheim name, no family, no generational scope, no awareness-tier taxonomy, no tie to her origin is surfaced; the five pattern-components stay dark until Ch 38. Drafted is not canonical.

Continuity anchor (SSBL §9.3 — Ch 32 start state = Ch 31 end state)
Ch 32 opens from Ch 31's committed end state [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_31]: the protagonist an adolescent, her inscription at Adeptus Minor, carrying from Iberia the closed serpent-thread corridor (the oldest painted serpent read at its Paleolithic root in Altamira), the humility of the second Inscription Limit met in the living Basque tongue, and the cold lesson of the burned library — that a people is unmade not by killing but by taking what they knew, whether by torch or lock or ledger; the healer's child (CHAR_0002) traveling as the active primary human companion and journal-keeper, the journal holding the saved Córdoba pages and the recovered sea-charts; Ana (CHAR_0017) having parted after Rome, her next canonical node Ch 41. Shell (W1) the sustained-bond Water familiar always present, the Nile Crocodile (W2) carried, the Simurgh (F4) carried and come into its Sufi home at Iberia, the Koi (W3) carrying its Koi-to-Dragon evolution, Taki (G4, the wild horse) carried, Berkut (F5, the golden eagle) carried, the Raven (F6, the Huginn-Muninn pair) carried, and the Reindeer (G6, the Sámi-tradition bond) carried (the cross-chapter memory-bridge that will run forward to the Bowhead), with Paravani the peacock (F2) ranging the passage, the Sanur Octopus (W4) carried deferred and gated, and the Child Familiar still lost and believed dead; the Trade 1 (Ouidah), Trade 2 (Iranian plateau), Trade 3 and Trade 4 (South India), Trade 5 (Persia), Trade 6 Tailoring (China), Trade 8 Engineering (German lands), Trade 9 Inscription (Egypt and Sápmi), and Trade 10 (Swahili Coast) home bases carried; the SCH_001 through SCH_008 schools carried (the accumulated set); the Crown device force-bound; concealment at CONCEALMENT_WITH_HOSTILE_RECOGNITION with the pressure easing here; the Ch 8 Sealed Letter still an uncracked fairy-script mystery bound toward its Ch 66 close; the certainty carried from Rome that an organized power exists — unnamed — held as a fixed background unease; and the antagonist pattern still entirely unassembled by the player [SRC: T3_Core_Characters # The Healer's Child] [SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0002]. What changes here is the FORM of the thing she has been fighting: for the first time it wears no ideology and holds no torch. It is a man with a caravan and a set of terms — the last overland route across the desert, and the price of crossing it — and the price is not his idea, though he will never learn where it comes from.
Body prose
She takes ship across the Strait and lands where the green edge of the world gives out. Behind her is Iberia and its argument between the keepers of knowledge and its hoarders; ahead is the largest silence she has ever walked toward, the Sahara, and the last road across it. There is a man who owns that road — not the sand, but the crossing of it: the wells he knows and others do not, the raiders he can pay off and others cannot, the weeks of water and shade he can promise and no one else can. His name is his own and he gives it plainly, a master caravaneer of the last great overland route, and he sets his terms the way the desert sets its own. She has met tyrants and zealots and men who burned libraries out of certainty. She has not, until now, met a man who is simply right — right that the world has hardened, right that survival costs, right that the terms he offers are better than the death that is the only alternative. He is honorable. He keeps his people alive. And the terms are terrible, and she cannot tell, at first, why they are quite so terrible as they are.
She crosses with him, and the crossing is the chapter. The desert enforces his leverage without his lifting a hand: refuse a term and the sands answer, the wells recede, the heat presses; accept and the road opens a little. She learns to read his contract, which is written in Tifinagh, the oldest indigenous script of this whole coast, angular and beautiful and older than the alphabets she thought were old. And in the reading she finds the second thing the desert is keeping. On the walls of Tassili n'Ajjer, where the plateau holds ten thousand years of painting, there are hippopotami and cattle and swimmers — a green Sahara, a Sahara of rivers and lakes, a drowned world under the dune. The land itself remembers a flood that ran the other way: not water rising but water leaving, a whole living country desiccating into the erg over the centuries, and the people surviving it, carrying their cattle-songs into a country that could no longer feed cattle. It is the same catastrophe she walked in the Rift, the far side of one continent's long drying, and the two halves close together in her like a held breath. She does not name it a flood-memory. She only feels the size of what a people can outlive and still be themselves.
The star-keeper of the caravan is a woman, because here the script and the sky-lore are kept by women, and she shows the protagonist the marks that track the risings and settings across the year. And the protagonist goes very still, because she has seen these marks before — not these, but their echo — pricked into a drum on the roof of the north, among the reindeer people, thousands of miles and a different world away. Two peoples who never met, who could not have met, reading the same sky and writing down the same order in it. There is no road between them; there is no teacher who carried it from one to the other; there is only the sky, and two clear-eyed traditions arriving, alone, at the same true thing. She lets it sit in her as a wonder and refuses the easy lie that one must have taught the other. Some knowledge is simply there to be found, and more than one people has the wit to find it.
Then the raiders come. A slaving captain and his riders fall on the caravan at the thin edge of a crossing, and this — this she knows what to do with. The Amazigh of the caravan are not her enemy and never could be; the raider is, and she fights him, and the captives roped behind his horses become the first real weight on the chapter's scale. Because the caravaneer's terms, she understands now, are partly a shield against exactly this — his leverage buys the caravan's safety from the men who would take its people — and partly something else, something she can feel but not yet see: that the terms are harsher than his own survival requires, tuned from somewhere upstream of him, an interest that profits when the crossing stays expensive and the debtors stay bound, and that neither she nor he can follow to its source. In the deep heat she sees it once, for a moment, the whole shape of the account — who owes, who is owed, why the salt costs what it costs — a rigging that runs up out of the desert to somewhere she cannot follow, and then the shimmer closes and it is gone, and there is only the trader, who never saw it at all.
At the end there are the final terms, and what she is decides what she does with them. She can break him — open his hoarded wells and his charts to every caravan, cancel the debts his terms enforce, free the roped captives and the salt-bound alike, and spend her own cover to put the road back into the world's hands. She can deal — take what passage she needs and keep an edge. She can cross and move on, saving the easy and leaving the rest. Or she can look at a man made rich by controlling what others are allowed to need, and understand, coldly, that configuring the terms and receiving the flow is the most durable power there is — and file it away for her own use. Killing him is the one thing that teaches nothing; there is no rot in him to cut out and no cruelty to punish — he is a mirror. However she leaves him, she rides out of the desert to the Atlantic coast and finds a ship, because the road that was overland ends here, and the next reach of the world is water.

Thread 2 Serpent — ANCHOR: the Tassili n'Ajjer serpentine rock-art forms of the Saharan-interior epigraphic record, seeding the Trans-Saharan serpent tradition forward to the Ch 42 Haiti Damballa via the Atlantic-crossing lineage (LINK_0021, sets-up, never a diffusion claim) [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 2] [SRC: T0_Cross_Cultural_Link_Graph @ LINK_0021].
Thread 3 Antagonist Family — ANCHOR (player-facing as harsh terms and an unnamed configuring interest; the family/name/pattern held): the arc's first economic-complicity-without-ideological-capture operational form — the caravaneer whose rational self-interest advances a distant continuity he never sees, the canonical precursor to the Ch 39-65 modern economic vessels; the Ch 28 Augustus-ledger continuity felt as a fixed background dread and NOT advanced, the player seeing only an economic node and terms tuned from somewhere upstream, never the pattern [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 3] [SRC: T0_Thread_Grid @ THREAD_03].
Thread 4 Flood Memory — ANCHOR: the Green-Sahara desertification (the African Humid Period, circa 11,000-5,000 years ago, deMenocal and Larrasoaña), the Western-arc first-specific-event-dated flood-memory that completes the continental climate-catastrophe pair with the Ch 10 Rift-Valley Eastern-arc anchor (LINK_0039, pattern-parallel) and threads forward to the Ch 38 convergence discovery [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 4] [SRC: T0_Cross_Cultural_Link_Graph @ LINK_0039].
Thread 5 Tree of Life and World Axis — ANCHOR: the Argan-tree sacred-tree form endemic to the Maghreb and the Amazigh cosmological-tree tradition, the world-axis in its desert-and-Atlas form [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 5] [SRC: T0_Thread_Grid @ THREAD_05].
Thread 6 Dying-Rising — ESCALATION: the ecological-catastrophe-community-survival form-variant — the Amazigh continuous cultural survival across the Green-Sahara desertification, a whole living country dying into desert and its people rising through it unbroken, the dying-and-rising motif carried by a civilization rather than a god [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 6] [SRC: T0_Thread_Grid @ THREAD_06].
Thread 12 Oracle — ANCHOR: North African geomancy (ilm al-raml, the science of the sand), the divination-in-the-dust practice that recurs from the Ch 19 Persia anchor (LINK_0077 — a documented within-Islamic-world transmission of ʿilm al-raml, Frame-A, not a parallel-independent convergence), and the frame through which the Salt-Ledger materialized-argument reads the caravan's hidden account [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 12] [SRC: T0_Cross_Cultural_Link_Graph @ LINK_0077].
Thread 13 Sacred Geometry — ANCHOR: the Maghrebi tessellation and Almoravid-Almohad geometric art, the North-African side of the shared Ch 31-32 anchor whose Iberian face is the Córdoba girih and zellij, documented Islamic mathematical-geometric craft and never inflated into fringe number-mysticism [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 13] [SRC: T0_Thread_Grid @ THREAD_13].
Thread 17 Sacred Scripts — ANCHOR (primary establishment): Tifinagh, the Libyco-Berber script full-literacy-advancement, and through it the Cross-Tradition Astronomical Convergence — the Tifinagh astronomical-observation content matching the Ch 29 Sámi noaidi-drum astronomical content across thousands of kilometres with no transmission channel, the flagship Pillar-5 convergence example (LINK_0088, parallel-independent, received from Ch 29), with the Tifinagh-Guanche linguistic continuity seeded forward to Ch 34 (LINK_0078) [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 17] [SRC: T0_Cross_Cultural_Link_Graph @ LINK_0088] [SRC: T0_Cross_Cultural_Link_Graph @ LINK_0078].
Thread 22 Sacred Stones — ESCALATION: the Tassili n'Ajjer ochre-palette iron-oxide pigments, the continuation of the Ch 10 Blombos hundred-thousand-year ochre tradition in a Thread-22 backward-integration (LINK_0102, continuity), and the Amazigh ochre-and-henna-and-kohl-and-saffron body-ornament-and-ritual-substance continuity [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 22] [SRC: T0_Cross_Cultural_Link_Graph @ LINK_0102].
Civilizational marks (the builders-of-knowledge layer, §9.5 mandatory)
Each mark clears a group-A significance lens and anchors to the RCM verified-canon paragraph or a named primary source; the Amazigh are authored as builders of script, of trade-systems, of statecraft, and of historiography — never a myth-and-desert backdrop [SRC: SIGNIFICANCE_LENSES].
Tifinagh and the Libyco-Berber script — the oldest indigenous script tradition of North Africa, a continuous alphabet running from the pre-Punic Libyco-Berber inscriptions into the living Neo-Tifinagh of today, kept notably by Amazigh women, and the Trade-9 Inscription substrate of this chapter, encoded as a script-continuity forward to the Ch 34 Guanche of the Canaries (LINK_0078, CIVMARK:CH_32, Class-2 knowledge-transmission via population continuity, never a hyperdiffusion claim) [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 32] [SRC: T0_Cross_Cultural_Link_Graph @ LINK_0078] [SRC: SIGNIFICANCE_LENSES].
The Tassili n'Ajjer rock-art record — one of the world's greatest galleries of prehistoric art, a ten-thousand-year stratified record (Round-Head through Bovidian through Horse through Camel, Lhote and Hachid) that is at once a masterwork of the symbolic human mind and a documentary archive of the Green Sahara, credited wholly to the Saharan painters' own agency [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 32] [SRC: SIGNIFICANCE_LENSES].
The Trans-Saharan trade network — the gold-and-salt-and-caravan system that made the Sahara a sea and the Amazigh its navigators, one of the great commercial and logistical achievements of the medieval world, linking the West-African gold-fields to the Mediterranean and the Islamicate east [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 32] [SRC: SIGNIFICANCE_LENSES].
The Almoravid and Almohad dynasties — the Berber-Maghrebi empires that ruled from the Sahel to the Ebro, built Marrakesh and the Koutoubia and the Tinmel mosque, and carried a reforming intellectual and architectural program across two continents, credited as Amazigh statecraft and construction [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 32] [SRC: SIGNIFICANCE_LENSES].
Ibn Khaldun's Muqaddimah — the fourteenth-century Maghrebi historiographical masterwork, its theory of asabiyya (group cohesion) and cyclical dynastic rise-and-fall a foundational text of history, sociology, and economics, credited to the Maghreb's own scholarship [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 32] [SRC: SIGNIFICANCE_LENSES].
The Berber djemaa council — the indigenous community-assembly institution, a documented self-governance form (the amghar and the collective djemaa), an achievement of political organization credited to Amazigh society and never rendered as tribal disorder [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 32] [SRC: SIGNIFICANCE_LENSES].
Component-11 status — none at Ch 32: the Tassili rock-art and the Green-Sahara record are documented art and palaeoclimate, not a Component-11 engineering or archaeo-astronomy megalith, so this node anchors no site of the CVD's nine-site Component-11 catalog [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 32] [SRC: SIGNIFICANCE_LENSES].
Everything-woven (the twelve facets, each a real presence, none name-checked)
North Africa is authored as a hub in its documented web — the Iberia and Islamicate Mediterranean of the Ch 31 root across the Strait, the West-African gold-and-Sahel world at the caravan's inland far end (the Mali and Niger-bend goldfields), the Canary Islands and their Amazigh-descended Guanche across the water (the Ch 34 seed), and the Atlantic that the last overland route hands off to — never an isolated desert; the relational edges are woven through the facets and controlled for relevance at the significance-lens pass [SRC: CROSS_CULTURAL_WEAVE].
Combat routes through the Rezzou slaver-raider preying on the caravan, the Tassili rock-art watcher manifestation, and the Salt-Ledger materialized-argument — never the Amazigh of the caravan, the oasis communities, or the djemaa.
Exploration crosses the Atlas and the Argan groves, the erg and the oasis waystations of the desert crossing, the Tassili plateau and its painted shelters, and the Atlantic-coast embarkation.
Discovery is the drowned green Sahara under the dune, the Tifinagh contract and star-record, and the momentary shape of the rigged account.
Puzzles are the Tifinagh decode of the caravaneer's contract, the North-African geomancy figures, and the Maghrebi tessellation.
Mystery is the tuned-from-upstream harshness of the terms — an interest above the trader that no one at the crossing can name, felt and never assembled.
Lore is the Green-Sahara flood-memory, the Tassili record, the Tifinagh astronomical convergence with the Sámi drum, the Argan cosmological tree, Ibn Khaldun's cyclical history, and the geomancy.
Trades advance the Trade-9 Inscription capability through Tifinagh literacy (no new home base — Inscription's two ancient homes are Egypt and Sápmi, HL_0033); the earlier trade homes and the carried schools hold.
Gathering is the Argan and desert herbal substrate, the ochre and henna and kohl and saffron body-substances (referenced as heritage, never looted), and the recovered star-record.
Side quests run the archaeology-and-inscription, lost-landscape, secret-society (pattern-unease, held), the-bargain, and astronomy-and-psychology lines (block 11).
Engineering is the caravan logistics and well-craft of the crossing, the Almohad architecture, and the Maghrebi hydraulic and geometric craft.
Folklore is the Green-Sahara memory, the living jnun-belief of the wells and the salt-wastes (the caravan's protective invocations and the geomancer's sand-readings, honored as real Amazigh-Islamic belief), the serpent rock-art, and the star-lore.
Superstition is the geomancy and the djinn-lore, honored as living Amazigh-Islamic tradition and never rendered as horror-shorthand or an exotic mystical other (HL_0005).

Boss structure (§9 thin join index — phases are beats; the narrative lives in the beat graph)
Three sub-bosses across different threads feed one moral-choice main boss whose true win is not a kill but a recognition — that the structure, not the man, is the antagonist; the encounter blends a negotiation, a rescue, a perception, and a refutation, never a single mode (HL_0078) [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0078].

Vocabulary FIX vs v2.5: the live CH_32.md named truly_good / good_enough / neutral / evil as the four branch labels (the retired vocabulary). v3.1 keeps the fork options ACTION-keyed with a direction, following the CH_39 FORK_CH39_A precedent for a four-branch moral choice (a weaker-generative +small delta token carries the good_enough-equivalent branch alongside the standard +Substantial/~0/−Substantial trio); the five texture bands are the DERIVED axis (§18); no fifth terminal-band-texture option is authored here (unlike CH_39) since the v2.5 text grounds only one corrosive branch, not a further Pure-Evil escalation [SRC: T1_Integrity_Paths_Worldstates_Master # 5.1].

Key ally NPCs
The healer's child (CHAR_0002) — the primary human companion and journal-keeper; here the journal takes in the Tifinagh, the star-record, and the memory of the green Sahara, the counter-archive that keeps what the desert and the terms would let slip; inviolate, never a target [SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0002].
Tiziri, the caravan's star-keeper — an original Amazigh woman rendered as the Amazigh understand themselves, a keeper of the Tifinagh literacy and the astronomical star-record (the women's craft of this tradition), honored and never fought; she is the L2 anchor of the script and the sky-lore and the one who shows the protagonist the convergence with the northern drum, individuated with the attested Tamazight feminine name Tiziri (moonlight; the women's-custody register of Tifinagh literacy and sky-lore), SET at the RR-42 Layer-3 naming pass, screened clear of any real-person collision, Character_Index row added [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 32] [SRC: T1_Languages_and_Script_Master] [SRC: NAMING_METHOD].
The caravan and the djemaa — the Amazigh of the last overland route and the oasis community-council, an ambient living-community presence and the protagonist's fellow travellers and hosts, never targets, individuated with named leads at region-build where a scene requires, never a deferred name [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 32] [SRC: NAMING_METHOD].

protagonist, the Rezzou raid-captain (BE_0032_S1, unnamed individual)
HL_0004: combat routes through the raider, never the Amazigh; Trans-Saharan slavery held honestly (Principle 3, Ch 12 Dahomey precedent)
The Amazigh of North Africa — the caravan peoples, the oasis communities, the djemaa, and the star-keepers — are a living people, inviolate and never combat targets (HL_0003); they are the protagonist's fellow travellers and hosts, and the caravaneer himself is a moral mirror solved by pacify and never by the blade (he is not a vessel, and killing him teaches nothing) [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0003]. Combat routes only through the Rezzou slaver-raider (the oppressor apparatus, HL_0004), the Tassili rock-art watcher (a folklore-and-fauna manifestation), and the Salt-Ledger materialized-argument (a heat-shimmer construct). The Trans-Saharan caravan economy's documented gold-salt-and-slave history is held honestly and neither lightened nor pinned on the Amazigh as a people (the Ch 12 Dahomey / D-03 precedent, Principle 3 historical honesty): the acute slaving is embodied in the Rezzou raider who is fought and whose captives are freed, and the caravaneer's complicity — his terms operating within a system that includes bondage — is authored as the moral test, never as an indictment of a culture [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0004]. The Amazigh self-name and appear with their own registers, never as tribal, primitive, or exotic (HL_0006), and the djinn and geomancy traditions are living Amazigh-Islamic belief rendered with weight, never as horror-shorthand (HL_0005) [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0006].
Anti-fringe / Frame-A flags
The Green Sahara — at-risk claim: the African Humid Period as a lost super-civilization or an Atlantis-in-the-desert. Canonical framing: the Green Sahara is a documented palaeoclimate epoch (deMenocal and Larrasoaña; Kuper and Kröpelin), a real savanna-and-lake Sahara circa 11,000-5,000 years ago that desiccated into the modern desert, credited as environmental history and never as a lost race or hidden super-culture [SRC: SCIENCE_GROUNDING] [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 32].
The Tassili rock-art — at-risk claim: the Round-Head figures as ancient-astronaut or "Great Martian God" evidence (a documented mid-twentieth-century fringe misreading of exactly this site). Canonical framing: Tassili is documented prehistoric art of a stratified ten-thousand-year record (Lhote's primary record and Hachid), the work of Saharan painters credited to their own agency, with the ancient-astronaut reading explicitly rejected [SRC: SCIENCE_GROUNDING] [SRC: ESOTERIC_GROUNDING].
The Tifinagh-Sámi astronomical convergence — at-risk claim: reading the convergence as diffusion (one tradition taught the other) or as proof of a lost global mother-culture. Canonical framing: the convergence is parallel-independent (CROSS_CULTURAL_WEAVE Class-1) — two geographically isolated traditions arriving at convergent observational conclusions with no transmission channel, the shared-substrate Frame-A reading the game commits to, never a hyperdiffusion claim [SRC: CROSS_CULTURAL_WEAVE] [SRC: ESOTERIC_GROUNDING].
The economic-complicity form — at-risk claim: leaking the antagonist pattern early, or conspiracy-coding the Trans-Saharan credit economy. Canonical framing: the harsh terms are documented Trans-Saharan credit-and-debt economics (real caravan history), and the felt sense of an unnamed configuring interest above the trader is the carried Ch 28 background dread (the D-14 ceiling); the five pattern-components — the House-of-Velheim name, that it is a family, the generational scope, the awareness-tier taxonomy, and the tie to her origin — stay dark, and the player sees only an economic node and terms tuned from upstream [SRC: ESOTERIC_GROUNDING] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0043].
Three-layer surfacing
L1 self-contained: a desert-survival-and-hard-bargain story — cross the last great overland route on a caravaneer's terms, fight off a slaver's raid and free his captives, and decide at the end whether to break the terms or deal — a complete action-and-choice chapter needing no metaphysics [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0047].
L2 investigatable: the Amazigh trade-network and the Almoravid-Almohad history (Brett and Fentress, Camps), the Tifinagh and Libyco-Berber script (Galand, Aghali-Zakara), the Tassili rock-art record (Lhote, Hachid), the Green-Sahara palaeoclimate (deMenocal, Larrasoaña, Kuper and Kröpelin), Ibn Khaldun's Muqaddimah, the djemaa council-form, and the North-African geomancy (Savage-Smith) — the investigatable Maghreb substrate [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 32].
L3 metaphysical-as-real, never declared: the Green-Sahara desiccation is a flood-memory encoded in the landscape (the African Humid Period made mythic, Thread 4, completing the continental pair with the Ch 10 Rift), the Tifinagh astronomical content converges with the Sámi drum through the shared substrate (surfaced through the perception and inscription mechanics), and the economic-complicity form teaches the convergence-pattern the modern vessels will complete — configure the incentives, receive the flow, never appear — surfaced through the choice mechanic and the palaeoclimate substrate, with zero thesis, no Grand-Sage hint, and the five pattern-components dark [SRC: ESOTERIC_GROUNDING] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0043].

protagonist_age: 16 (internal, designer-only, never surfaced; held across Ch 32 per the D-06 model; the placed jumps toward young-adult fall on the Ch 33-38 Atlantic sea-crossing and crystallize at the Ch 38 stabilization).
age_stage: Adolescence.
companions_present: the healer's child (CHAR_0002), primary companion and journal-keeper (the journal now holding the Tifinagh, the star-record, and the green-Sahara memory); Ana (CHAR_0017) departed after Rome, her next canonical node Ch 41.
familiars_present: Shell (W1) sustained, the Nile Crocodile (W2), the Simurgh (F4), the Koi (W3, its Koi-to-Dragon evolution continuing), Taki (G4, the wild horse), Berkut (F5, the golden eagle), the Raven (F6, the Huginn-Muninn pair), and the Reindeer (G6, the Sámi-tradition bond and cross-chapter memory-bridge to the Bowhead); Paravani the peacock (F2) ranging the passage; the Sanur Octopus (W4) deferred and gated; the Child Familiar still lost and believed dead; the rotational roster carried — no new bond at Ch 32.
homes_established: Trade 1 (Ouidah), Trade 2 (Iranian plateau), Trade 3 and Trade 4 (South India), Trade 5 (Persia), Trade 6 Tailoring (China), Trade 8 Engineering (German lands), Trade 9 Inscription (Egypt and Sápmi), Trade 10 (Swahili Coast) — no new home rooted at Ch 32 (the Tifinagh advances Trade-9 Inscription without adding a third ancient home).
found_family: the arc's accreted found-family carried; Tiziri the star-keeper and the Amazigh caravan and djemaa held as honored figures rooted to their desert.
identity_hiding_status: CONCEALMENT_WITH_HOSTILE_RECOGNITION (carried), pressure LOW — the chapter's operative was UNAWARE, an economic node who never learned what she is, so the local hostile-recognition pressure eased even as the carried concealment state persists.
path_states: set at FORK_CH32_A and FORK_CH32_B (§10b), action-keyed, never option-labeled by band; the five texture bands are the DERIVED axis (§18, integrity_level L3 Drifting); the north_africa_amazigh community mark and the raid-captive mark carried forward (mark_write, §10b; no confirmed forward-read chapter identified, carried via ws.community_state_per_region); the Ch 28 certainty of an organized power held as a fixed background unease and NOT advanced (the economic-complicity form recognized as a new shape of the same kind of crime, never assembled into the family or the pattern); the Sealed Letter still bound toward its Ch 66 close; and the antagonist pattern still unnamed and unassembled by the player.
Seam state-diffs (machine-checkable exit→entry assertions over ws state keys; the prose bridge stays in the transitions file)
The CH_31 → CH_32 seam (asserting Ch 31's own committed end state as the Ch 32 entry pin):
assert ws.age_stage: Adolescence (internal 16, held; no D-06 crossing here) · ws.integrity_score: near the L3 Drifting band at entry (CH_31's direction plus magnitude carried) · companions: the healer's child (CHAR_0002) primary companion and journal-keeper at entry, journal holding the saved library pages and the recovered sea-charts · familiars: Shell (W1) sustained, the Nile Crocodile (W2), the Simurgh (F4, come into its Sufi home), the Koi (W3, evolution continuing), Taki (G4), Berkut (F5), the Raven (F6), the Reindeer (G6) at entry, Paravani (F2) ranging, the Sanur Octopus (W4) deferred, the Child Familiar still lost · homes: the eight home-base locations across nine trades carried (Trade 1/2/3/4/5/6/8/9/10; Trade 9 = Egypt+Sápmi) at entry, no new root · ws.identity_hiding_status: CONCEALMENT_WITH_HOSTILE_RECOGNITION at entry, pressure MODERATE at the CH_31 exit easing to LOW across CH_32 (the operative here, NW_0030, is UNAWARE, unlike CH_31's FAMILY_BRIEFED admiral) · the Ch 28 certainty of an organized power held as a fixed background unease at entry, NOT advanced at CH_31's own close · the Sealed Letter bound toward its Ch 66 close at entry · the antagonist pattern unnamed and unassembled by the player at entry.
The CH_32 → CH_33 seam:
assert ws.age_stage: Adolescence (internal 16, held; the D-06 placed jumps begin at Ch 35) · ws.integrity_score: per FORK_CH32_A/FORK_CH32_B (Substantial direction set on the treatment-of-the-caravaneer and the raid-captives; the carried arc stays near the L3 Drifting band) · companions: the healer's child (CHAR_0002), journal now holding the Tifinagh, the star-record, and the green-Sahara memory; Ana (CHAR_0017) still departed, next node Ch 41 · familiars: the full carried roster unchanged, no new bond at Ch 32 · homes: the eight home-base locations across nine trades carried (Trade 1/2/3/4/5/6/8/9/10; Trade 9 = Egypt+Sápmi), no new root (Tifinagh advances Trade-9 Inscription without a third ancient home) · mark_carried: {north_africa_amazigh per FORK_CH32_A/FORK_CH32_B} → no confirmed forward-read chapter identified, carried via ws.community_state_per_region only · ws.identity_hiding_status: CONCEALMENT_WITH_HOSTILE_RECOGNITION, pressure LOW at CH_32's close → CH_33 opens its own active-hunt escalation to HIGH (the reactive-to-active reversal is CH_33's own opening content, its operative NW_0031 FAMILY_BRIEFED, distinct from CH_32's UNAWARE NW_0030) · the Ch 28 certainty of an organized power held as a fixed background unease, NOT advanced · the Sealed Letter still bound toward its Ch 66 close · the antagonist pattern still unnamed and unassembled by the player.
Decisions surfaced
Ch 32 surfaced these decisions; the grounded and creative-within-vision ones are resolved inline with reasoning shown (Josh-override-able at RR-42), and no cardinal un-decidable is left open.
The economic-complicity-without-ideological-capture form and reveal discipline — RESOLVED (the D-14 Ch 28 ceiling, held): the caravaneer is UNAWARE (NW_0030), an economic node whose rational self-interest advances a distant continuity he never meets and cannot name, the family configuring the terms upstream and never appearing; the player perceives harsh terms and, above them, an unnamed configuring interest (the licensed Ch 28 edge, carried as fixed background dread and NOT advanced), never the House-of-Velheim name, the family, the generational scope, the awareness-tier taxonomy, or the origin-tie — the five pattern-components stay dark until Ch 38; win = pacify (killing the man teaches nothing, because the structure is the antagonist) [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0043] [SRC: T0_Antagonist_Network_Registry @ NW_0030].
The Trans-Saharan slavery content (Principle 3 historical honesty) — RESOLVED (the Ch 12 Dahomey / D-03 precedent): the documented gold-salt-and-slave caravan economy is not lightened; the acute slaving is embodied in the Rezzou raid-captain, who is fought (the oppressor apparatus, HL_0004) and whose roped captives are freed, and the caravaneer's complicity — terms operating within a system that includes bondage — is authored as the moral test, never as an indictment of the Amazigh as a people; combat never routes through the living community [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0004] [SRC: T1_Integrity_Paths_Worldstates_Master # 5.1].
The Sámi-Amazigh astronomical convergence as parallel-independent, never diffusion — RESOLVED (Frame-A, CROSS_CULTURAL_WEAVE Class-1): LINK_0088 is the flagship Pillar-5 convergence-without-transmission example — two geographically isolated traditions (the Sámi noaidi-drum and the Tifinagh star-record) arriving at convergent astronomical conclusions with no channel between them — read through the shared-substrate frame and never as one-taught-the-other; the protagonist explicitly refuses the diffusion lie in the body prose [SRC: T0_Cross_Cultural_Link_Graph @ LINK_0088] [SRC: CROSS_CULTURAL_WEAVE].
The Salt-Ledger sub-boss thread assignment (Thread 18 in the roster note to Thread 12) — RESOLVED-WITHIN-VISION (grounded thread-alignment call): the boss roster's "Thread 18 materialized-argument" is a content-mismatch (Thread 18 is Sacred Mountains, which does not fit a debt-and-salt ledger, and Thread 18 is not a rowed Ch 32 thread); the Salt-Ledger materialized-argument is reassigned to Thread 12 (Oracle — the North-African geomancy, ilm al-raml, rowed for Ch 32), the ledger's hidden order surfaced as a divinatory construct, so the three sub-bosses span three distinct rowed threads (3, 2/17, 12) per Pillar-8. The Toubkal sacred-mountain remains the chapter's Thread-18 sub-anchor at the Atlas learning beat, not a sub-boss. Flagged for Josh-override at RR-42 [SRC: T0_Thread_Grid @ THREAD_12] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0078].
The main-boss naming screen — Aksil to Amayas ag Wammen — RESOLVED-WITHIN-VISION with a real-person screen (NAMING_METHOD): the boss roster's working name "Aksil" is the Berber form of Kusaila (Aksil), the singular and revered seventh-century Amazigh king who led the great revolt against the Umayyad conquest — a specific real anti-imperial hero, and casting his exact name on a caravaneer complicit within a bondage-adjacent economy inverts and diminishes him (the §17.1 no-revered-figure-recast rule, the Ch 25 Sangara-to-Muwaziti and Ch 26 Anselm-to-Wigand rename precedent). The name is reset to Amayas ag Wammen — Amayas an ordinary attested Tamazight given name meaning cheetah/leopard (preserving the roster's intended predator-of-the-crossing resonance without invoking the king), ag Wammen the Tuareg patronymic retained — self-named and non-exotic (HL_0006). Applied here and propagated to BOSS_PERSONAS, the Boss_Encounter row, and the Antagonist_Network operative name (living-source), and re-confirmed at the RR-42 Layer-3 naming pass [SRC: NAMING_METHOD] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0006].
Tiziri the star-keeper naming — RESOLVED (RR-42, SET): the Amazigh star-and-script keeper is set to the attested Tamazight feminine given name Tiziri (moonlight), self-named and non-exotic, grounded in the documented Amazigh-women's custody of Tifinagh literacy and sky-lore; SET at the RR-42 naming pass — Tiziri is correctly a feminine name and the star-keeper is written as a woman (body prose: "The star-keeper of the caravan is a woman, because here the script and the sky-lore are kept by women"); screened clear of any real-person collision, Character_Index row added [SRC: NAMING_METHOD].
The LINK_0078 registry thread-key — RESOLVED (RR-42, reconciled to Thread 17): the Tifinagh-Guanche continuity is a script/language matter, so it is homed under Thread 17 (Sacred Scripts) across all carriers — the CH_32 spine (already correct), the CH_34 spine (re-homed from Thread 12 to Thread 17, its Thread 12 re-anchored to the documented Guanche guañameñe augury), the CCLG LINK_0078 endpoints (THREAD_12→THREAD_17), and T1_Threads_22 §8 Ch 34 (living-source); no Chapter_Index thread-set change (both chapters keep T12 and T17 active) [SRC: T0_Cross_Cultural_Link_Graph @ LINK_0078].
The Toubkal Thread-18 sub-anchor (RCM vs grid) — FLAGGED FOR RR-42: the RCM substrate names a Toubkal sacred-mountain Thread-18 sub-anchor for Ch 32, but the Thread_Grid rows only ten threads (1,2,3,4,5,6,12,13,17,22 — no Thread 18), so the entry does not invent an unrowed advancing thread and handles Toubkal as a site-level learning beat (block 8) and an Argan/Atlas character beat; RESOLVED at RR-42: no THREAD_18:CH_32 grid row is added (adding an advancing thread for a single site-level beat would over-claim the ten-thread set); Toubkal is handled as a site-level sacred-axis learning beat (the RCM's Thread-18 phrasing read as loose), consistent with the Chapter_Index thread-set [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 32] [SRC: T0_Thread_Grid @ THREAD_13].
The v3 fork typing (four-branch action-keying and care_band) — RESOLVED (v3 conversion, 2026-07-15; Josh-override-able at any RR): FORK_CH32_A types the v2.5 truly_good/good_enough/neutral/evil branches as four ACTION-keyed options (generative +Substantial / generative +small / neutral ~0 / corrosive −Substantial), following the CH_39 FORK_CH39_A precedent for a four-branch moral choice rather than forcing a strict one-per-band trichotomy; the raid-captive choice is promoted to its own micro-fork (FORK_CH32_B) per the durable-state-write rule, since it marks the north_africa_amazigh community independently of the caravaneer's-terms decision. Both forks are typed care_band elevated (not the chapter's default open), since the chapter's own preamble names the Trans-Saharan slavery content and the caravaneer's complicity as jointly carrying "elevated care in practice" [SRC: T1_Integrity_Paths_Worldstates_Master # 5.1].
The BE_0032_S2 registry verb re-ground — RESOLVED-APPLIED (grounded error-correction at the v3 conversion): the v3 FK join surfaced a drifted T0_Boss_Encounter cell pair — the registry row lists primary_verb strike / secondary_verb perceive for the Tassili Rock-Art Watcher, while both the CH_32.md Boss-structure prose ("primary perceive, secondary attune") and BOSS_PERSONAS ("perceive+attune") agree on perceive/attune; corrected to the value both agree on, baseline-declared, queued for the orchestrator's serialized landing [SRC: BOSS_PERSONAS # BE_0032] [SRC: T0_Thread_Grid @ THREAD_02].
The north_africa_amazigh community mark's forward-read consumer — FLAGGED, not resolved (join-and-type discipline): unlike the CH_02 Kelimutu-mark-to-Ch_63 precedent, no later chapter is confirmed to re-read a CH_32-specific Amazigh community mark (region_chapter_set confirms this ground is NOT a SPREAD/revisit target, and no WHOLE_ARC_CONNECTIVE_WEB_INVENTORY entry names CH_32); the mark persists via ws.community_state_per_region and ws.reputation_biography_propagation as systemic (non-narrative) carriers rather than a specific forward_track chapter; forward_track is left empty rather than inventing a consumer, flagged for a future connective-web pass [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_32].
The batch-4 verify fixes — RESOLVED-APPLIED: the SC_CH32_two_skies scene_type re-keyed dialogue_initiation → per_chapter_cutscene (the §5.5 closed set; anchor_type keeps dialogue_initiation); the corrosive option's ws.six_option_cumulative_record write dropped (WS_018 is the dialogue-six enum record; this fork is combat_resolution); the desert_crossing and oasis_waystation_djemaa puzzle-function completions are grounded in the v2.5 Everything-woven puzzle content (the Tifinagh decode and the salt-ledger/geomancy) [SRC: SPINE_SCHEMA_v3 # 4].
