Chapter 15 — Ancient Egypt: the Adeptus-Minor threshold, the Hall of Two Truths, and the priest who would erase a world
Story Spine entry, v3.1 beat→fork→state event graph (docs/SPINE_SCHEMA_v3.md), restructured in place from the v2.5 cascade build (authored fresh to the v2.5 twenty-block anchor-hub schema), spine_status drafted. The v2.5 anchors, prose, source-anchor provenance, and reveal discipline are preserved; v3 re-shapes the site/boss/beat/side-quest/scene/state blocks into the typed machine layer (join-and-type — no new canon authored). Grounded on the enrich.py pack. This is the philosophical climax of the ancient arc — twenty-one of the twenty-two threads run through it, the dominant combat mode is astral, and the intensity register is peak. It is a standard-care chapter by the registry tier, but Egypt is one of the arc's major depictions and the full §17.1 Care Doctrine binds at strength: Egyptian religion and people are rendered deeply from primary sources, and the gods — Osiris, Isis, Ra, Horus, Set, Anubis, Thoth, Ammit, Hathor, Sobek, and the forty-two Judges — appear as the tradition itself understands them, honored and real in the game world, never enemies and never trap-monsters. Reveal-timing note — this chapter is the antagonist family's single most important ancient-world operation, but that is a design-layer and Layer-3 truth only: the player is never given the House-of-Velheim name, the family pattern, or the awareness-tier taxonomy here, and the erasure-priest reads as a philosophically sincere theologian and the Sealed-Letter unease, never as a family the player can see. The dense attested-name and deity-name sweep this chapter requires is applied inline and surfaced as a resolved batch in the Decisions block for Josh to confirm at RR-22. Drafted is not canonical.
region_primary Lower and Upper Egypt along the Nile valley and Delta — the Giza plateau and the Serapeum of Saqqara in the north, Karnak and Luxor and the Valley of the Kings at Thebes, Amarna and Hermopolis in the middle Nile, Kom Ombo and the Faiyum in the south, and Alexandria at the Mediterranean edge; region_id egypt [SRC: T0_Region_Index @ egypt].
region_chapter_set — this page anchors Ch 15 at Egypt and is the second half of the deliberate Ch 14-to-Ch 15 architectural pairing: the Kushite 65-to-70-degree pyramid slope and sovereign script authored at Ch 14 arrive here so that Egypt is met as a geometric and civilizational peer, its 51-degree slope a peer identity-statement rather than the single source that taught the world; the incoming Nubia-peer links pay off here and the Hermetic, Osiris, and Isis transmissions originate outward from here [SRC: T1_World_Geography_Master # Ch 15] [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_15].
biome_primary hyper-arid desert flanking the green Nile river-corridor and the Delta wetland system, with the Faiyum oasis depression; climate desert-riverine, extreme diurnal range, the annual Nile inundation as the one life-giving controlled flood [SRC: T1_World_Geography_Master # Ch 15].
era composite — the Old Kingdom circa 2686-2181 BCE (the Giza complex), the New Kingdom circa 1550-1077 BCE (Karnak, Luxor, the Valley of the Kings, and the Amarna period), and the Ptolemaic-Roman period 332 BCE-395 CE (the Corpus Hermeticum compiled at Alexandria and Hermopolis), with a time-fluctuation reach across the three horizons [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_15].
range_id R_02_15; spine_status drafted; canonical_hard_line_flag FALSE; author_in_loop_required FALSE at the registry tier, elevated in practice for a major depiction; cultural_depiction_tier standard [SRC: T1_Build_Pipeline_Contracts # 9.5 Spine Entry Schema] [SRC: T1_CVD_Creative_Vision_Document # 6.2].
protagonist_age 14 at start and 14 at end (internal, designer-only, never surfaced; age_stage Adolescence; per the resolved D-06 "Reclaiming the Birthright" model the tier-6 Inscription crossing lands on an adolescent, not a child); protagonist_gender player-selected, carried from Ch 1 [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_15].
identity_hiding_status CONCEALMENT_WITH_HOSTILE_RECOGNITION at start and end; identity_hiding_pressure LOW at the arc level with a sharp localized recognition at the boss — the erasure-priest is FAMILY_BRIEFED and reads the protagonist as the anomaly the family warned of, the family behind him never surfacing to the player [SRC: T99_Story_Spine_Build_Logic # 9.6] [SRC: T0_Antagonist_Network_Registry @ NW_0013].
hard_line_binding none at chapter level (canonical_hard_line_flag FALSE); the binding constraint that shapes this chapter is HL_0028 / HL_0017 — substrate-perception unlocks at the Adeptus Minor tier, and this is the canonical Adeptus-Minor onset, so the tier-6 restriction that held every earlier chapter to inscription-and-reverence perception opens here [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0028] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0017].
Continuity anchor (SSBL §9.3 — Ch 15 start state = Ch 14 end state)
Ch 15 opens from Ch 14's committed end state [SRC: T0_Chapter_Index @ CH_14]: the protagonist an adolescent; the healer's child (CHAR_0002) traveling as the active primary human companion and journal-keeper, now carrying a book that has begun to fill with recovered Meroitic script-fragments; Shell (W1) the sustained-bond Water familiar always present, with Kira, Khan, Muthu, Kasa, Msafiri, and Desta in the accumulating bonded roster; the Child Familiar still lost and believed dead; the Trade 1 Animal Communication (Ouidah), Trade 3 Blacksmithing and Trade 4 Herbalism (South India), and Trade 10 Fishing and Navigation (Swahili Coast) home bases carried, with the Trade 2 Mining substrate seeded at Wadi Allaqi; concealment at CONCEALMENT_WITH_HOSTILE_RECOGNITION, LOW; the Ch 8 Sealed Letter still an uncracked cross-world-resonance mystery bound toward its Ch 66 close; the paths near the L3 Neutral band with the Ch 14 §5.5 embedding mark carried; the found-family accreted across the arc — the South African teaching community and the Kushite teachers and the Kandake held as honored figures rooted to their regions; the Crown device present and carried, still unbound; and the antagonist pattern still entirely unseen by the player [SRC: T3_Core_Characters # The Healer's Child] [SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0002]. What changes here is the largest single change of the ancient arc: the protagonist crosses the threshold of the inner order, and for the first time the substrate she has only inferred becomes something she can see.
Body prose
As an adolescent the protagonist comes down the Nile out of Kush and into the country every other country has been quietly measuring itself against, and she arrives already armed against the lie she expects to be told — that Egypt is the source, the first, the teacher of the world. Nubia taught her otherwise a chapter ago, on purpose, in stone: Egypt is a peer here, its fifty-one-degree slope one confident sentence in a longer human argument about how to build a mountain that means something. She walks out onto the Giza plateau to read that sentence for herself, standing in the shadow of the Great Pyramid where the slope stops being a number and becomes a made mountain over her head, and only then goes on into the temples. She comes expecting a wonder and a correction both, and Egypt gives her something she did not know to expect. It opens her eyes. Not as a figure of speech. In the sanctuaries at Karnak and in the granite dark of the Serapeum she crosses the tier the whole long apprenticeship has been climbing toward, and the world acquires a second surface she can read.
This is the threshold the long climb has been withholding. Since the painted shelters of the south she has perceived the sacred the only honest way a novice can — through inscription, through reverence, through the behavior of people who know more than she does, through the lore that accumulates in a companion's plain book. She has never once been permitted to simply look at a thing and see the current under it, because seeing the current is an Adeptus Minor's power and she has not been an Adeptus Minor. Here she becomes one. The inner order takes her in, and substrate-perception begins: Vril Sight opens, and with it the triple-layer reading of the hieroglyphs — the public text a scholar can sound out, the priestly text an initiate is trusted with, and beneath both a third register that only a tier-six eye can hold. The long restriction was not a limitation the story forgot to lift. It was a debt long kept, so that the payment would land here, at the peak of the ancient world, and feel earned. And it is not, quite, a stranger's gift she is being handed. She is an elf of the royal line, born attuned in a realm where the current ran through everything, fallen into a world too thin to hold what she was; the climb from the painted shelters to this threshold has been less a child learning a foreign art than a birthright remembering the shape of itself. What crosses over here is her inscription — the one capability the old bindings tie to the sight — reaching the inner order at last, while her blade and her trades and her bonds still climb their own slower ladders behind it. She meets it as an adolescent now, no longer the small creature who woke on Flores stone, and the crossing reads the way the whole journey reads: as a return.
Egypt hands her its instruments as fast as it hands her the sight to use them. In the Valley of the Kings a tomb-architect leads her to a sequence where she must choose, once and for all in this life, among three artifacts — an Orb, a Tomb, a Wand — the first sorcery she will ever carry in her off-hand, irrevocable, hers for the whole road ahead. A restoration priest of Amun takes her as a student of the inscription-craft and gives her the first ancient home of that trade, teaching not just the letters but the discipline of the three layers and the humility of the one she is not yet allowed to force. An embalming priestess of the house of purification teaches her, of all things, a list — forty-two denials, the words a heart says to forty-two judges to prove it did no harm — and though the protagonist cannot know it, she is memorizing the exact sentences she will one day have to speak, decades from now, in a room at the end of the world, to something she cannot yet imagine. And when she carries the sight south into the Faiyum and down to the double-temple at Kom Ombo, a priestess of Sobek who keeps the crocodile pools takes her measure and gates the bond with the Nile crocodile that will one day slip armored beneath the water at her side.
Against all of this stands the chapter's antagonist, and he is the most dangerous kind the ancient world can produce: a believer. He is the high priest of the Aten, and he means to erase fifteen hundred years of tradition — every other god, every older name, every accumulated way the people have of holding their dead and their sky — and replace it with one disc, one god, one voice. He is not a schemer wearing theology as a mask. The theology is real to him. He composes hymns to the sun at dawn and means every line. He is a man right about a great deal and catastrophically wrong about one thing, which is that erasing a world could ever be a service to anything worth serving. She can feel, at the edge of the new sight, that the erasure is colder than one man's zeal — that the drive to reduce a world to a single enforced voice is a wrongness the new sight registers before she can name it. What she has instead is the return of the hostile eye: he knows what she is, or knows she is the thing he was warned about, and the recognition is personal in a way the unaware institutions of earlier chapters never were.
He offers her three ways to end him, and all three are real and lead to the same end. She can fight him — a temple battle that descends into the Duat, where the sun-barque has fought the chaos-serpent Apep since the first night of the world and where she must now break and drive that same coiled shape back the tradition's own way to win her passage, and out again into the erasure itself. The serpent is unmade only for the night, never for good; and though she has never seen this coil before, it lands in her the way a familiar thing does — a cold coiling hunger she feels she has met in warmer water and will meet again in other seas, wearing other scales. She can disrupt him — pull apart the iconoclast apparatus, the crews prying the old names off the walls, until his revolution has no hands. Or she can out-argue him — meet him in a genuine theological debate, staged against the restoration priest who is everything he wants to delete, and win with nothing but accumulated literacy, the Hermetic tradition she has been learning to engage, and an integrity clean enough to be believed. All three play through. The debate is an opportunity the prepared player has earned, never a wall the unprepared player hits; the blade and the disruption reach the same end by other roads. And the strangest mercy of the fight is what losing teaches: each death drops her into the Hall of Two Truths and gives back one of the forty-two confessions and one more glimpse of the scale — so that even her failures are quietly writing the speech she will need at the end of the world.
She comes up out of the Duat with the Crown bound to her at last, an artifact chosen and a trade rooted and a god's own list copied into the plain book, and with the first clear sight of a truth she cannot yet phrase: that the surest way to kill a people is not to conquer them but to make them forget they were ever more than one thing, and that a wall of stone and a wall of a single enforced name are the same wall, said twice.
Threads advancing (T0_Thread_Grid, 21 cells)
Thread 1 Vril Parallels — ESCALATION: the Ka-Ba-Akh tripartite soul is named as the canonical Egyptian vril-parallel and, with the Adeptus-Minor onset, becomes the first substrate the protagonist can directly perceive rather than infer [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 1] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0028].

Civilizational marks (the culture as builders-of-knowledge, L2)
Each mark clears at least one group-A achievement lens and anchors to the RCM verified-canon paragraph or a named primary source; Frame-A binds every line — Egyptian agency and invention, never a hyperdiffusion or single-source-taught-the-world framing, never fringe. The gods and the funerary tradition are honored as the culture understands them; the knowledge-transmissions are encoded as knowledge-transmission cross-cultural links, not as Egypt teaching a passive world.
Hieroglyphic writing and the triple-layer textual tradition: a fully developed script sustaining an exoteric public register, an esoteric priestly register, and — in the game's Layer-3 reading — a vril register, the whole a cognitive and institutional achievement of the first order, read per Faulkner and Allen [SRC: SIGNIFICANCE_LENSES] [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 15].
The Giza pyramid geometry and the pi-adjacent proportion: the 51-degree slope and the perimeter-to-height ratio approximating two-pi, a monumental-engineering and geometric-identity mark held as a peer statement alongside Kush's steeper slope, credited to Egyptian surveying and design capability per Lehner, never a lost-race or external-source framing [SRC: SIGNIFICANCE_LENSES] [SRC: SCIENCE_GROUNDING].
The Serapeum granite stoneworking: the precision granite boxes of Saqqara, cut with copper saws and quartz-sand abrasive as demonstrated in Denys Stocks's peer-reviewed replication, a materials-and-technology achievement credited to documented Egyptian method [SRC: SIGNIFICANCE_LENSES] [SRC: SCIENCE_GROUNDING].
The funerary-literature corpus: the Pyramid Texts, the Coffin Texts, and the Book of the Dead, a continuous scriptural and philosophical tradition on death, judgment, and the soul, read per Faulkner, Allen, and Hornung [SRC: SIGNIFICANCE_LENSES] [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 15].
The Karnak Hypostyle Hall: the 134-column temple hall, an architectural and engineering achievement of monumental scale, and the Amduat's twelve-hour cosmological model, an astronomical-cosmological achievement [SRC: SIGNIFICANCE_LENSES] [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 15].
Egyptian medicine, mummification, and the Nile-flood calendar: the embalming craft of the house of purification, the medical papyri, and the inundation-based calendar and astronomy that timed a civilization, a scientific and institutional mark read per David and Wilkinson [SRC: SIGNIFICANCE_LENSES] [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 15].
The comparative parallels and the documented transmissions, kept distinct: the Osiris mystery-template stands in comparative parallel with the Eleusinian Mysteries (CIVMARK:CH_15, a comparative-parallel edge) and with the Adonis dying-rising cult, and Ra stands in comparative parallel with the Greek Apollo — read as parallels of the human religious imagination, never a diffusion of one source outward and never a superiority claim; documented-transmission framing is reserved for the two attested lineages — the Hellenistic Isis mystery-cult spreading across the Mediterranean and the Hermetic tradition setting up the Persian, medieval-European, and Moorish alchemies — with the Maat and Hermetic substrate carrying forward to the Ch 69 Maatherion synthesis, each credited to Egyptian origin and encoded under the CROSS_CULTURAL_WEAVE convention [SRC: SIGNIFICANCE_LENSES] [SRC: CROSS_CULTURAL_WEAVE] [SRC: T0_Cross_Cultural_Link_Graph @ LINK_0059] [SRC: T0_Cross_Cultural_Link_Graph @ LINK_0070].
The everything-woven layer (twelve facets, grounded)
Combat — the astral-and-temple assault on the erasure apparatus across Thread 3 and Thread 17, with the Aten-iconoclast enforcer, the Meroitic emissary's social-tier, and the Duat threshold-guardian as sub-bosses; combat routes only through the family-aligned erasure-priest and his crews, never the Egyptian priesthood, people, or gods, and never the sacred animals [SRC: BOSS_PERSONAS # BE_0015] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0003].
Exploration — the Giza plateau and Serapeum, the Karnak and Luxor complexes and the Valley of the Kings, Amarna's open-air Aten temple, and the Faiyum and Kom Ombo south form distinct traversable zones across the composite era [SRC: T1_World_Geography_Master # Ch 15].
Discovery — the Adeptus-Minor onset itself: Vril Sight opening the substrate layer, and the triple-layer hieroglyphic reading revealing exoteric, esoteric, and vril registers on the same wall [SRC: T0_Ability_Tree_Registry @ A_E3_002] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0028].
Puzzles — the Duat descent's forty-two-confessions preview puzzle, the pillar-shadow counter to the sun-disc sweep, the Book-of-the-Dead numbering, and the pyramid-slope and Serapeum geometry as standalone spatial problems [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 15].
Mystery — what aims the erasure-priest and why the Sealed Letter resonates here, surfaced as unease and never as the family pattern; and the Hermetic question of what the triple-layer text hides [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0043].
Lore — the Osiris and Isis theology, the Amduat and the Duat, the Ka-Ba-Akh soul, the Hermetic Corpus, Amarna theology, and the funerary corpus are readable per Faulkner, Allen, Hornung, Assmann, Aldred, and Copenhaver [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 15].
Trades — Trade 9 Inscription lands its first ancient home base here, taught by the restoration Amun high priest, who teaches the triple-layer reading; the Trade 2 Mining seed from Wadi Allaqi carries on toward its Ch 19 home [SRC: T0_Trade_Registry @ TRADE_09].
Gathering — desert mineral and granite quarry stock carrying the Thread-22 sacred-stone weight, Nile-corridor and Delta foraging, and the embalming-craft material set feed the gathering loop [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 15].
Side quests — SQ3 Archaeology, Inscription, and Occult leads through the hieroglyph full-mastery and the Hermetica, SQ12 Secret Societies advances the mystery-school and Hermetic initiation, and SQ5 Astrology and Psychology opens on the Book of Thoth and the oracle of Amun [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0032].
Engineering — the Serapeum granite precision, the Giza construction, the Karnak Hypostyle, and the obelisk-quarrying-and-raising are the chapter's engineering set-pieces, set against the erasure crews' destructive counter-craft of prying names off walls [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 15].
Folklore — the gathering of Osiris, the sistrum of Hathor, and the crocodile-god Sobek of the Faiyum are the chapter's living folklore, depicted per the primary-source record, and the nightly battle of Ra and Apophis is carried into play as a real fought Duat-gate encounter — the chaos-serpent driven back and unmade the tradition's own way, the recurring dragon-lineage's first met shape [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 15] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0002].
Superstition — the erasure-priest's conviction that a world is improved by being reduced to one name is the chapter's superstition substrate, set against the weighing-of-the-heart's insistence that a life is measured, not decreed [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 15].

Inter-chapter travel — arrival down the Nile out of Kush (the Ch 14 committed end state); departure eastward toward the great brick cities of the Indus opening Ch 16 [SRC: T1_World_Geography_Master # Ch 15].
Boss structure (§9 thin join index — phases are beats; the narrative lives in the beat graph)
Pillar-8 doctrine binds every fight: blended mode, a primary and a secondary verb, a three-axis Patterns-Puzzles-Preparation split that is never 100-0-0, phase escalation that evolves the moveset rather than swapping it, at least two counters per signature attack, and a reward on win and on death [SRC: CHAPTER_BUILD_TARGET]. Key ally NPCs
The dense attested-name and deity-name sweep is applied here (see the Decisions block). Because Egypt's onomasticon is thick with attested royalty, priests, and deities, every real-individual name carried on an invented persona is reframed to a screened constructed personal name that carries no attested identity, finalized through the NAMING_METHOD pass under the standing no-royal-and-no-deity-collision instruction and checked against the pharaoh, queen, priest, and deity rosters; the real figures are honored as documented history in the civilizational-marks layer. No sacred or deity proper name stands alone as a mortal's whole name (the Kxao rule), and no revered figure or real historical person is cast as a villain (the Liqä rule / Ch 9 Abuna precedent).
Wabenhotep, the High Priest of the Erasure (CHAR_0109 / NW_0013, reframed off the rowed Meryre) — the Aten high priest and main boss; Meryre is the attested name of Akhenaten's actual High Priest of the Aten, the strongest form of the Liqä concern, so the character carries the constructed non-theophoric name Wabenhotep (wbn "rise/shine" + htp "at peace", parsing as "dawn-serenity") and keeps the player-facing epithet the High Priest of the Erasure, and the real Meryre is honored as documented Amarna history per Aldred in the civilizational-marks layer [SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0109] [SRC: NAMING_METHOD].
Menkhamun, the restoration High Priest of Amun (CHAR_0111, reframed off the rowed Hapuseneb) — the ally and teacher who gives the Trade 9 Inscription first ancient home and teaches the triple-layer reading, and who stands as the erasure-priest's staged debate-counterpart; the real Hapuseneb is a Hatshepsut-era High Priest of Amun who predates Akhenaten, so the row's post-Akhenaten tag is a chronological mismatch corrected to a post-Amarna restoration priest, and the NPC carries the Amun devotional compound Menkhamun ("Amun is beneficent") — an authentic mortal name, not a bare deity name — the real Hapuseneb honored as documented history; a teaching NPC, inviolate and never a target [SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0111] [SRC: NAMING_METHOD].
Petethoth, the Hermetic scribe-teacher (CHAR_0112, reframed off the rowed Petosiris) — the Greco-Egyptian Hermeticist who makes the Thread-8 mystery-school tradition explicit; Petosiris is a real priest of Thoth and a legendary astrologer, so the NPC carries the constructed demotic theophoric-type name Petethoth ("given by Thoth", a standard mortal name-pattern that faithfully swaps Osiris to Thoth) and the real Petosiris is honored as documented history; a teaching NPC and never a target [SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0112] [SRC: NAMING_METHOD].
Merytmaat, the Per-Nefer embalming priestess (CHAR_0113, reframed off the rowed Hetepheres) — the mummification specialist who teaches the forty-two Negative Confessions, the exact words the protagonist will speak at Ch 69; Hetepheres is an attested royal name (Khufu's mother), so the NPC carries the Maat devotional compound Merytmaat ("beloved of Maat") — an authentic mortal name apt for the priestess who teaches Maat's 42 Confessions, not a bare deity name — the real Hetepheres honored as documented history; a teaching NPC and never a target [SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0113] [SRC: NAMING_METHOD].
Rudjmose, the Valley tomb-architect (CHAR_0114, reframed off the rowed Amenemhat) — the tomb-artifact custodian who leads the protagonist to the Orb-Tomb-Wand selection; Amenemhat is an attested pharaoh name and the row carries the Ineni-architect archetype, so the NPC carries the constructed name Rudjmose ("the enduring-born", rwd + ms, carrying the Thread-5 endurance note and reading via the familiar -mose ending) and the real Amenemhat pharaohs and the real architect Ineni are honored as documented history; a teaching NPC and never a target [SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0114] [SRC: NAMING_METHOD].
Tasheret, the Sobek priestess of Kom Ombo (CHAR_0115, reframed off the rowed Nehemet-Awai) — the crocodile-cult priestess of the Faiyum who gates the Nile-crocodile familiar bond; Nehemet-Awai is a goddess name (the consort of Thoth) placed on a mortal, a direct Kxao-rule violation, so the NPC carries the deity-free name Tasheret ("the younger/little one"), the goddess element stripped per the Kxao rule; a teaching NPC and never a target [SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0115] [SRC: NAMING_METHOD].
Tanefret, the Isis mystery-cult priestess (CHAR_0116, reframed off the rowed Khenemet) — the Hellenistic priestess who opens Isis at first full depth and the cross-Mediterranean mystery-cult; Khenemet is an attested royal name element, so the NPC carries the non-theophoric name Tanefret ("the beautiful/good one"), deliberately not Isis-theophoric per the screen on her revered goddess, and the real figure is honored as documented history; a teaching NPC and never a target [SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0116] [SRC: NAMING_METHOD].
Avvaiyar (carried; CHAR_0051) — the recurring Tamil Sangam-period poet, present at Ch 15 as a cross-Mediterranean trade-web reach per the documented multi-century recurring-tradition framing established at Ch 7 and carried consistently, an archetype-framed recurring figure and never a target [SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0051].

Protected-chapter combat framing (§17.1 Care Doctrine; standard care, major depiction)
Egypt is a standard-care chapter by the registry tier, but as one of the arc's major depictions the §17.1 Care Doctrine binds at full strength. The Egyptian priesthood, the embalmers and scribes and temple musicians, the worshippers, and the wider community are inviolate community representatives and never combat targets; every tradition — the Osiris and Isis theology, the Amduat and the Duat, the funerary corpus, the weighing-of-the-heart, the Hermetic tradition, and the temple music — is depicted per the primary-source record of Faulkner, Allen, Hornung, Assmann, Aldred, David, and Copenhaver, never exoticized, never with a stereotyped descriptor, and each self-named [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0002] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0006]. The gods are real and portrayable in the game world and are honored as the tradition understands them: Osiris, Isis, Ra, Horus, Set, Anubis, Thoth, Ammit, Hathor, Sobek, and the forty-two Judges appear in Layer-3 and lore, never as enemies and never as trap-monsters, and the temple is never a trap-framing [SRC: T1_CVD_Creative_Vision_Document # 17.1] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0005]. The Duat threshold-guardian is the manifested test the tradition itself describes — an environmental judgment of the scale and the confession — and never Anubis or Ammit fought as an enemy; combat routes entirely through the erasure apparatus — the family-aligned erasure-priest, the Aten-iconoclast enforcer and his crews, and the Meroitic emissary's social tier — a legitimate antagonist whose sincerity is the danger, never the Egyptian faithful he would overwrite [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0003] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0004]. The sacred animals — the Nile crocodile of Sobek, the sacred scarab, the Egyptian cat, the ibis and baboon of Thoth, the falcon of Horus, the jackal of Anubis, the hippopotamus, and the White Apis bull — are deity-associated and handled with care, not casual combat targets, and no bare deity proper name stands alone as a mortal NPC's whole name (the Kxao rule; the CHAR_0115 Sobek-priestess row, formerly Nehemet-Awai, is renamed Tasheret for exactly this) [SRC: T1_CVD_Creative_Vision_Document # 17.1] [SRC: NAMING_METHOD].
Anti-fringe / Frame-A flags (standing block)
The Giza and Serapeum Component-11 anomalies — at-risk claim: that the precision granite, the pyramid geometry, or the pi-adjacent proportion required ancient aliens, a lost race, or an external superior source. Canonical framing: documented Egyptian engineering capability, the Serapeum granite cut with copper saws and quartz-sand abrasive as demonstrated in Stocks's peer-reviewed replication and the Giza geometry within Egyptian surveying method per Lehner, credited to its makers and never a lost-civilization or extraterrestrial framing [SRC: SCIENCE_GROUNDING] [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 15].
Egypt as the single source that taught the world — at-risk claim: hyperdiffusion, that Egypt is the origin of all later civilization and geometry. Canonical framing: Egypt and Kush are peers, the 51-degree and 65-to-70-degree slopes each a geometric-identity statement rather than a source-and-copy; the Ch 14-to-Ch 15 architecture surfaces this as peer-not-source, and the outward transmissions are specific documented receptions, not a civilizing flood [SRC: SCIENCE_GROUNDING] [SRC: CROSS_CULTURAL_WEAVE].
The Hermetica, the Emerald Tablet, and the Ka-Ba-Akh soul — at-risk claim: reading these as settled occult history or literal lost-technology proof. Canonical framing: the Hermetic Corpus is a real Alexandrian-Hermopolitan compilation of 100-300 CE per Copenhaver, and the game's Emerald-Tablet and tripartite-soul vril-parallel are Layer-3 artistic interpretation of attested tradition, traced to the peer-reviewed Western-esotericism scholarship of Faivre and Hanegraaff and never asserted as settled occult history [SRC: ESOTERIC_GROUNDING] [SRC: T1_Threads_22_Master_References # Thread 8].
Three-layer surfacing (CVD §18.2)
L1 surface, self-contained: a temple battle at Karnak that descends into the Duat and out to the erasure confrontation at Amarna, with the tomb-artifact choice, the Sorcery off-hand debut, the sub-boss tier, and the Serapeum and pyramid geometry as standalone spatial puzzles — complete with zero metaphysics required [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0047].
L2 investigatable substrate: the Osiris and Isis theology, the Amduat and the Duat, the Hermetic Corpus, the Amarna theology, the funerary corpus, and the Ka-Ba-Akh soul are readable documented lore via the healer's-child journal and the triple-layer inscription, with the forty-two Confessions recorded exactly as the Ch 69 recitation will need them [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 15].
L3 metaphysical-as-real, never declared: vril is the Ka-Ba-Akh tripartite soul and the harnessing sites at Giza, the Serapeum, and Karnak, and the substrate-perception onset is the tier-6 threshold the arc has withheld until now, surfaced through Vril Sight and the vril register of the triple-layer reading rather than declared; the antagonist's Amarna erasure is the Thread-3 design-layer peak, stated in design and never to the player. The threads are Thread 1 with Thread 16's astral register and Thread 19's Amduat cosmology; the esoteric grounding is the peer-reviewed Western-esotericism and comparative-religion scholarship of Faivre and Hanegraaff and the Copenhaver Hermetica, the physical substrate the science grounding, never fringe; and the rabbit-hole is the die-to-preview-the-confessions loop, understanding earned through defeat and quietly seeding the end of the world, no reveal-figure named [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0015] [SRC: ESOTERIC_GROUNDING] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0043].

creatures_and_fauna — the deity-associated sacred animals are care-tagged and not casual combat targets: the Nile crocodile (CR_0060, Thread 2, Sobek), the sacred scarab (CR_0072), the Egyptian cobra (CR_0098, Thread 2, uraeus), the Egyptian cat (CR_0105), the sacred ibis (CR_0106, Thoth), the peregrine and lanner falcons (CR_0107, CR_0108, Horus), the Egyptian jackal (CR_0109, Anubis), the hamadryas baboon (CR_0110, Thoth), the hippopotamus (CR_0111), and the White Apis bull (CR_0113); combat-permitted ambient fauna are the fennec fox (CR_0100), the Egyptian mongoose (CR_0102), and the Nile Delta waterfowl cohort (CR_0112); all rendered realistic-ethnographic, the deity-associated animals also mythologically-stylized where their associations surface [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 15] [POPULATE→T0_Creature_Roster].

companions_present: the healer's child (CHAR_0002) travels as the active primary human companion and journal-keeper, now recording the triple-layer readings and the exact forty-two Negative Confessions; the Egyptian teachers are rooted to their region, not traveling companions.
familiars_present: Shell (W1) the sustained-bond Water familiar always present, plus the accumulating bonded rotational roster — Kira (F1), Khan (G1), Muthu (G2), Kasa (W5), Msafiri (F3), and Desta (G3) — with the Nile Crocodile (W2) bonding here at Ch 15 and Paravani the peacock (F2) reappearing, and the deferred Sanur Octopus (W4) carried forward open but geographically dormant (its gated Bali-encounterable bond still to come); per-slot mechanics deferred to the T0_Familiar_Registry; the Child Familiar remains lost and believed dead.
homes_established: the Trade 9 Inscription first ancient home base is established here in Egypt (the triple-layer reading), joining the carried Trade 1 (Ouidah), Trade 3 and Trade 4 (South India), and Trade 10 (Swahili Coast) homes; the Trade 2 Mining substrate seed from Wadi Allaqi carries on toward its Ch 19 home.

identity_hiding_status: CONCEALMENT_WITH_HOSTILE_RECOGNITION — the arc-state persists and Ch 15 returned a sharp aware recognizer in the erasure-priest, FAMILY_BRIEFED, without the family behind him surfacing to the player; pressure LOW at the arc level, the recognition localized to the boss.
path_states: direction set at FORK_CH15_A (out-argue and disrupt generative, blade neutral, erasure-method-as-tool corrosive), integrity_level near the L3 Neutral band with path_bucket UNLOCKED (bands derived, never option labels); the egypt tradition-survival mark carried forward to the Ch 69 Maat-and-Hermetic synthesis, the Crown device now force-bound, the journal carrying the forty-two Confessions toward Ch 69, and the proof restated that a people is killed by being made to forget it was ever more than one thing — while the player still does not see the antagonist pattern.

Decisions surfaced (standard-care, major depiction; resolved within vision unless flagged; Josh rules at RR-22)
Ch 15 surfaced these decisions; all are resolved below within the ratified elevated-autonomy contract, with reasoning shown and Josh's override retained at the RR-22 sign-off. The attested-name reframes follow the ruled Ch 9 Abuna, Ch 12, Ch 13 ǂNabe, and Ch 14 precedents and are Josh-confirm items rather than story forks; two observations touched cardinal canon and were flagged to Josh, and both are now RESOLVED by his 2026-07-08 rulings — the age-vs-mastery step (decision D-06, the "Reclaiming the Birthright" model) and the Component-11 attribution (decision D-07, the nine-site catalog).
The §17.1 attested-name and deity-name sweep — RESOLVED (screened constructed-name reframes, finalized names below, per the Ch 9 Abuna / Ch 13 ǂNabe / Ch 14 collision-lesson precedents): Egypt's onomasticon is dense, so every real-individual name carried on an invented persona is reframed to a screened constructed personal name that carries no attested identity, now finalized through the NAMING_METHOD pass and checked against the attested royal, priest, and deity rosters so none lands back on a real bearer (the exact Ch 14 trap avoided). The boss CHAR_0109 / NW_0013 Meryre (the attested Aten High Priest — the strongest Liqä-rule concern, cast as the family-aligned antagonist though the pack renders him sympathetically) is named Wabenhotep (non-theophoric, wbn "rise/shine" + htp "at peace"), keeping the epithet the High Priest of the Erasure; CHAR_0111 Hapuseneb (a real Hatshepsut-era High Priest of Amun, and mis-tagged post-Akhenaten in the pack) is named Menkhamun ("Amun is beneficent"), the restoration High Priest of Amun, with the chronology corrected to a post-Amarna figure who rebuilds what the erasure tried to delete; CHAR_0112 Petosiris (a real priest of Thoth and legendary astrologer) is named Petethoth ("given by Thoth"), the Hermetic scribe-teacher; CHAR_0113 Hetepheres (Khufu's attested mother) is named Merytmaat ("beloved of Maat"), the Per-Nefer embalming priestess; CHAR_0114 Amenemhat (an attested pharaoh name, Ineni-architect archetype) is named Rudjmose ("the enduring-born"), the Valley tomb-architect; CHAR_0116 Khenemet (an attested royal name element) is named Tanefret ("the beautiful one", deliberately non-Isis-theophoric), the Isis mystery-cult priestess; CHAR_0110 Khabash (echoing the rebel-pharaoh Khababash, carried from Ch 14 as the Meroitic emissary sub-boss) is named Sabrakoye (on the attested Meroitic "-oye" official ending), the Napatan-Meroitic emissary; and CHAR_0115 Nehemet-Awai — a goddess name (the consort of Thoth) placed on a mortal Sobek-priestess, a direct Kxao-rule violation — is named Tasheret ("the younger/little one"), the Sobek priestess of Kom Ombo, with the deity element stripped. The real Meryre, Hapuseneb, Petosiris, Hetepheres, the Amenemhat pharaohs, Ineni, and Khababash are honored as documented history in the civilizational-marks layer [SRC: T0_Character_Index @ CHAR_0109] [SRC: NAMING_METHOD].
STANDING no-royal-and-no-deity-collision instruction for the NAMING_METHOD pass — RESOLVED (carried, per the Ch 14 lesson): every constructed Egyptian name must be checked against the attested Egyptian onomasticon — the pharaoh and queen king-lists, the attested priesthood, and the deity roster — before it is finalized, and no constructed name may resolve onto an attested pharaoh, queen, priest, or deity. The eight Ch 15 names (Wabenhotep, Menkhamun, Petethoth, Merytmaat, Rudjmose, Tanefret, Tasheret, and Sabrakoye) were finalized through exactly this check. This is the durable instruction the Ch 14 trap (reframed names landing on real Kushite kings) established, extended to Egypt [SRC: NAMING_METHOD].
The Component-11 attribution — RESOLVED (Josh-confirmed 2026-07-08, decision D-07): CVD §3 Component 11 is a printed nine-site megalithic-precision catalog, and the Serapeum (site #1) and the Great Pyramid of Giza (site #4) are already-listed members alongside Baalbek (Ch 18) and Puma Punku (Ch 52); the earlier "dual anchor" framing undercounted the nine-site catalog and is refined here to "catalog site." CLAUDE.md known-issue 1 ("do NOT touch Component 11") is scoped to the Component-10 Ch 52/53 repair, not a single-site bar. No CVD edit; every catalog site keeps its §19.7 Frame-A "documented capability, peer-not-source" treatment [SRC: T1_CVD_Creative_Vision_Document # Component 11] [SRC: T1_Research_Corpus_Master # Ch 15].
The gods-are-real-and-honored treatment — RESOLVED (deities-real doctrine, never trap-monsters): Osiris, Isis, Ra, Horus, Set, Anubis, Thoth, Ammit, Hathor, Sobek, and the forty-two Judges are depicted as the tradition understands them, honored and real in the game world and never enemies or trap-monsters; the Duat threshold-guardian is the manifested weighing-of-the-heart test (Weaving 15 Guardian-at-the-Gate), an environmental judgment, not Anubis or Ammit fought as an enemy; combat routes only through the erasure apparatus [SRC: T1_CVD_Creative_Vision_Document # 17.1] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0003].
The Adeptus-Minor onset and the HL_0028 threshold — RESOLVED (frame as the earned capability threshold): Ch 15 is the canonical Adeptus-Minor onset where substrate-perception begins, and the HL_0028 restriction that held every earlier chapter to inscription-and-reverence perception opens here precisely because the protagonist reaches tier 6; Vril Sight's substrate-reading dimension and the vril register of the triple-layer hieroglyphic reading become canonically available, framed as the earned payoff of the long restriction rather than a new grant [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0028] [SRC: T0_Ability_Tree_Registry @ A_E3_002].
The age-vs-mastery tension — RESOLVED (Josh-ruled 2026-07-08, decision D-06, the "Reclaiming the Birthright" model): the earlier "child of ten" framing is retired. Two interlocking resolutions, neither touching a hard line: (1) the protagonist ages up across the ancient arc via the already-canonical time-fluctuation — internal age is designer-only and never surfaced, and age_stage crosses Childhood→Adolescence at the Ch 13/14 boundary — so the tier-6 onset lands on an adolescent (internal ~14), matching T3 §85 "Adolescence = the ancient-world journey"; (2) mastery is per-capability (HL_0026 — the twelve-tier framework is universal across every capability, so each climbs independently), so "tier 6 at Ch 15" is her INSCRIPTION capability reaching Adeptus Minor, the capability HL_0017/HL_0028 bind to Vril Sight, with combat, trades, weapons, and familiar-bond still on their own lagging ladders — and the whole climb is the reclamation of a dormant innate birthright (T3 §59 "the journey is a return"; §61/§565 the fairy-realm mastery stripped at the Ch 2 rift-fall, rebuilt toward the Ch 70 ceiling), not a mortal learning from zero, which is why an elf reaches the inner order here where a mortal never could — gated by quest-unlock and proficiency per HL_0027 and by depleted atmospheric vril (perception returns before full power, capped until Ch 70). The Ch 13 Practicus and Ch 14 Philosophus/Portal-Grade seatings make the graded ladder to this crossing explicit. Every internal number remains adjustable (designer-only) [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0026] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0017] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0028] [SRC: T0_Hard_Lines @ HL_0027].
The three-resolution-path boss and the non-gating invariant — RESOLVED (all three play through): the combat, theological-debate, and disruption routes are authored as the three-layer thesis made playable, and the debate route's integrity-plus-mastery gate opens an opportunity for the prepared player without ever walling the unprepared player — the blade and disruption reach the same end, so no route gates progression, per the non-gating multi-path invariant [SRC: ENTITY_PERSONA_SYSTEM # 3.4] [SRC: T1_Integrity_Paths_Worldstates_Master # 5.1].
The v3 conversion — RESOLVED-APPLIED (v3.1 beat→fork→state typing, 2026-07-14; Josh-override-able at any RR): the v2.5 twenty-block entry was re-shaped in place into the ratified SPINE_SCHEMA_v3.md event graph — 14 typed beats, one fork (FORK_CH15_A, the sovereign blade-versus-debate-versus-disruption choice, kind combat_resolution, magnitude Substantial), the §9 boss thin index, typed §3b site rows and §11 SQ rows and §13 scene rows, the §18 derived-state axes, and both seam state-diffs — join-and-type only, no new canon. Two placement calls carry the record: (a) the irrevocable tomb-artifact device (KM-02) and the force-bound Crown (KM-08) have no dedicated worldstate variable among the 39, so both are typed onto ws.worn_rune_loadout as the equipped vril-device loadout — the closest machine-valid home for the sorcery off-hand and the Crown vril-seat — carried in the end-state and the CH_15→CH_16 seam and read at the Thread-20 resonance-chain stations; (b) the egypt tradition-survival mark (the §5.5 which-traditions-survive write) is given forward_track [CH_69], grounded in LINK_0070 (the Maat-and-Hermetic substrate read at the Ch 69 Duat synthesis) and KM-01 (the forty-two Confessions read at Ch 69) as the authored downstream reader; if a nearer reader is authored the forward_track narrows to it [SRC: T1_Integrity_Paths_Worldstates_Master # 5.5] [SRC: T0_Cross_Cultural_Link_Graph @ LINK_0070].
The BE_0015_S2 boss-registry re-ground — RESOLVED-APPLIED (grounded error-correction at the v3 conversion): the FK join surfaced a drifted T0_Boss_Encounter cell — the Duat threshold-guardian's primary and secondary verbs were rowed as contest and perceive where the spine boss-structure text and the row's own phase-and-counter cells (reading the judgment pattern; passing by the honest-declaration verb; the perceive-read and declaration-mini-verb counters) describe a perceive-then-declare test — so the two cells were corrected to primary perceive and secondary declare (the 25/50/25 puzzle-forward split unchanged), the value the spine and the BE_0015 persona's manifested-judgment framing agree on, baseline-declared in the same commit [SRC: BOSS_PERSONAS # BE_0015] [SRC: T0_Boss_Encounter_Registry @ BE_0015_S2].
